Dimension 20 got it so fucking right when it came to what one can do in an urban fantasy setting. Will never get over fantasy high making the ice cream parlor the bad kids meetup place, especially that 3 am dennys vibe it was screaming at the start of junior year. There are battles and events that happen on livestream for the world to see. The vice principal of the high school is a dragon. There's a cafeteria battle against the lunch lady on episode fucking 2. There's a family of halflings who believe wholeheartedly, "fuck the police." One of the main characters uses a gun!!

As for unsleeping city? Immaculate, 100/10. Brennan being a new yorker who knows every nook and cranny of his city made it so much better, god damn. There are tiny clock gnomes that live in the clockwork of grand central terminal. The occult society lives in an upside down library located at the new york public library. There's a giant rat that helps the homeless. So many little bits of worldbuilding that creates a believable, batshit magical new york and it's awesome.

big fan of urban fantasy and similar genres because theres nothing funnier to me than a setting where youve got people fighting with enchanted blades and bows and hopping around doing magic tricks but you can also just hit a demon with your car if you feel like it

no one plays weird little guys with the same commitment and verve as Brian Kevin Murphy. kugrash doesn't just go to the park to find some pigeons, he raises his 'little rat arms' and summons them en masse to kingston's gorgeous, pristine apartment. riz doesn't just hide behind a car, he rolls into a ball, hides in fabian's backpack, promptly throws up out of excitement, gets lobbed across the parking lot, and then bites gorgug's shirt in half to make himself a toga, because gorgug's big and he's so small, and so covered in his own vomit. murph just gets it. shoutout krudbert. shoutout gerard prince of greenleigh.
