It's extremely weird and interesting to consume fanworks for dimension 20 because it's both weekly limited series and an anthology show, so when you're watching week to week you have a lot of time to steep and stew in what you know so far, and lots of people write fanfic mid season and what you end up with is extremely popular fan works that create fanon style norms that are completely undermined by later episodes but because the community is small enough those things stick around and get repeated. Like the theo lapin are ex husbands thing simply doesn't and can't make sense when you hear theo say that he took an unforced vow of celibacy, but because mid season, pre-Gooey, someone wrote a ex husbands fic it's a trope that is repeatedly used with them. It barely makes sense after episode 2 when Theo learns that Lapin's magic is not bulbian for the first time and completely falls apart by the time the season ends. I think this also applies to things like Fabriz, it only makes sense if you're working off of like season 1 Riz and falls apart with sophomore year but because people got invested before Riz's more explicitly asexual story was told it lingers.

I think it's the worst for acoc specifically because it came out summer of 2020 when children especially had nothing to do but write fanfic and sit in discord together making headcanons because they weren't allowed outside for covid reasons. The limited number of episodes and no sequel season means that you don't have a volume of fan works later to drown out the outdated or incomplete characterizations. Utterly fascinating. I watched in late 2022 in one big marathon and as a result didn't have time to create headcanons that were formed on incomplete info, all my stuff came after the end of the season. I find these kinds of fanwork lore/fanon/trends deeply interesting in part because they stick in my craw. I get so interested in later dynamics but all of the energy and focus has been pointed at something else and I try and figure out how gooeybear, a canon ship can be a rare pair with 1/6th the number of fanfic as theopin.
