I'm starting to think that half the reason A Crown of Candy is so intense is not because of it's Game of Thrones-esque enemies at every turn politicking combined with a deliberately biased campaign but because all of the PCs are just absolutely terrible at talking to people.

logically I know that liam, jet, and ruby nonchalantly using magic and saying all the wrong things is both in character and that they are making brennan able to move the plot forward in a very natural way. emotionally, I am screaming like theo and lapin every time they do it and praying it turns out different this time

ao3 is up again so i finally get to read about theopin and the au of them, and i love the secret relationship trope but there is just something so much more meaningful if they're truly never meant to be if they have never considered each other more than annoying half-acquaintances
there's something more profoundly hurt when you longing for something you never even care for when it was still available to be care, and is no longer available to be care for when you want to care for it, like starting to like a musician knowing they're no longer active.
