Oh! First time I see this is a thing but I’m hopping on board!

Sooo my Crow Rook is my main and she’s a city elf who found herself orphaned when her parents got killed as collaterals when the noble family they worked for got massacred Cousland style by another noble house. She got adopted into the de Riva because her dad had a bit of a shady past (just a bit of a thief, poor elf in a big city has to eat) and had connections within the crows and a family friend found her and took her in.

Her full name is Ashara and it’s in honor of queen Asha of Antiva. Her mom, who’s part Dalish and didn’t have the easiest time fitting in when growing up because of it, wanted to make sure her child didn’t have the same problems as her so she picked a mostly human name for her. She likes her name enough but mostly goes by Ash though and it’s quite fitting because of her ashen blond hair. Her best friend, Aurora is the daughter of the noble family her parents worked for and the only other survivor of the main family, she also joined the crows with her when they escaped and she is the only one that calls her Asha. It’s like a inner joke between them, the noble lady calling the maid’s daughter by the name of possibly the most famous queen Antiva ever had.

I know that technically Varric is the one that give Rook their nickname but I headcanon that she actually got it on a job where a mark mocked her calling her a rook instead of a crow to taunt her and she decided to take it as a mantle because she’s a little menace like that. Viago would never admit it but he was actually amused by her new nickname.

She generally prefers Ash to Rook because it feels more personal and it’s what Lucanis calls her when they are alone. Occasionally the rest of the party uses her full name, more rarely Ash.

So basically: Rook is for general use, Ashara for friends, Ash for close friends or family and Lucanis (yes he has special privileges lol) and Asha only by her bff and she hates it tbh lol.

Viago and Teia who sometimes affectionately call her Little Rook/Little Ash between themselves are outliers and should not be counted.

I feel like something that should have been explored more in Arcane is that despite the dangers and pretty much horrific conditions, Zaun children seemingly grow up a lot more caring and have a larger understanding of family in comparison to Piltover children. And if such a reflection of the real world in a sense.

The kids of Zaun seemingly grow up with a lot more adult support. Ekko is easily welcomed under Benzo’s wings. Vander adopts 4 kids (two of which we learn he knew of before their parents death, two of which we can’t be sure of). Silco, despite all what happened, and his ulterior motives, shows no problem adopting Powder/Jinx. In the alternate universe it seems as though he’s still played a part in the kids lives. Jinx adopts Isha easily and Sevika cares for her as well. Hell, even Mr. War Crimes Against Humanity does well with little Viktor (until ya know, the animal abuse).

Hell, up until Vander dies (the first time) there seems to be a large understanding of if there’s an orphan or a kid in need of guidance, take them in! (And certainly don’t inform them of your plans to turn a giant pink salamander into drugs and be confused when a nine year old doesn’t understand). If a kid wants to be your apprentice, let them! For the most part, until things all went wrong in the end of act 1 of season 1, the worst parts of Zaun seem pretty typical for any city in poverty.

Match that with what we see with how Caitlyn and Jayce grow up. Caitlyn is given adult support, yes, and it’s clearly a good adult mentor, but it’s not entirely by her choice. It’s been chosen for her. She’s safe, but there’s a lack of freedom of choice. Meanwhile, when Jayce gets older, and that same accident in Act 1 happens, the family that supported him and his mom turns their backs. His own mom doesn’t support him either, because she’s afraid of what he’s talking about, but also because he’s damming them to being outcasts.

Conversely, Vander is more than willing to take the fall for what Claggor, Milo, Vi and Powder did. He’s willing to go to prison for a long time, in order for them to have a better future. Despite Vi’s best efforts, he’s not going to listen to her (she is just a kid) and he’s not letting his family go down and get hurt.

Meanwhile, a man who grew up in this mentality, where there’s a wide sense of family support from people who aren’t your biological family, is the one to go to Jayce, a stranger, and tells him he believes in him. It’s why it’s such a shock to Jayce; his own family and family friends denied him. They didn’t support him.

I think that’s what makes all the difference. Piltover and Zaun have wildly different understandings of family and forgiveness. For Piltover, it shuns and damns the lives of those who upset the balance. For Zaun, it provides safety and never ending understanding.

Just. I’m thinking.

Ohhh, I'm rereading Mystra's entry in the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide... and this detail:

This means Gale was punished for trying to restore and preserve what he thought was a lost piece of Mystra's magic. Gale being Mystra's ex-lover put aside. He as her follower, she his goddess, was punished for attempting to do the one foundational rule of her faith.

I'm seething and so sad at the same time.

Edit: I used the word punish loosely, as in, toxic/abusive people will take any small mistake or action and twist it into something they can take advantage of. This post was also largely from the stand point of a toxic deity rather than a toxic partner, but both takes are valid here. Especially with the, “you didn’t stay compliant so now I’m giving you the silent treatment” part of it—from a god and a partner perspective.

This has been an absolutely horrible couple weeks for the Jewish and Israeli community, so I want to throw in at least a tiny bit of hope in here. Amina Hassouna, the Bedouin girl who was severely hurt in Iran’s missile attacks, has been recovering well and seems to be in good condition! She is described as being ‘fully conscious’ and ‘communicating and smiling’. Two bomb shelters have been placed in Al-Fura, the town that she and her family are from, as well.

I always wondered why Katniss factored marriage and children into the equation when it came to reciprocating Peeta’s feelings for her. It’s a rather large leap, especially when Peeta himself never expresses wanting children at any point in the story. He uses children as a tool to persuade Katniss and the Capital to save her life, but the only time we see him express any desire/feelings of having one of his own is when he’s crying after the baby bomb. But we never hear his real thoughts.

But you wanna know who does express wanting children? Gale.

It’s one of the first thing he mentions in chapter one. And it pisses her off so much.

(I also want to add that Gale reframes/establishes the dynamic of Katniss and him caring for their siblings from something that is sibling-sibling to parent-sibling. And he is not wrong. Katniss doesn’t refute him. Both Katniss and Gale are surrogate parents to their siblings. Which is also why Katniss love and affection of Prim, is not just sisterly. I’ve seen people say Katniss is only sisterly to Prim- but she’s not. She’s parentified their relationship to the point she subconsciously see Prim as her child, which makes this a tragedy because she’ll loose her first child no matter what she does by the end of the story.)

But Gale’s phrasing here elevates himself as a potential suitor to Katniss by placing them both as the parental roles to these children. (Which irritates her a lot ). Which is why she brings the topic up with her relationship with Peeta. Because she’s subconsciously aware of Gale’s efforts and knows it will be a point of contention between them. It hangs over her head in a way.

With Gale, children are extra mouths to feed. (But Gale will do fine. He can work. He can hunt.) It’s all framed with calculated survival in mind. But it’s also not something she had planned in the future at any point.

But Peeta’s children? Oh they deserve to be born because Peeta deserves to be a father. He would be such a good father. They deserve to exist in a world where they can be safe and happy. (Even if it’s not with her.)

This is also why I think she subconsciously sees Peeta’s baby as her own. And I don’t think of it as a cruel/heartless thing, it’s just you’d be more protective of your own child compared to someone else’s. Katniss sees Gale as a reliable person who’s equipped to look after a kid. She doesn’t express the same kind of maternal instinct/yearning for the Baby Hawthrone’s safety as she does with the idea of Baby Mellark, because she doesn’t think of Gale’s child as her own. She never hopes for a better future for them, but she does with Peeta because he and that baby gives her hope. And she loves him that much.

I keep seeing different people (several of them my mutuals hey gang) say there’s folks going about treating Fictional Character Neve Gallus like the girl in high school they secretly had/have a crush on but were/are too afraid to admit it themselves so were/are mean to at every possible moment instead???

Neve Gallus?? Detective Neve Gallus??? The one people would be down bad for openly if she was shaped like Colombo (meaning attractive white guy) ((yes Colombo is attractive but that’s not what we’re talking about here focus))?? My Wife Detective Neve Colombo Gallus???? Queen of my mind and Lucanis’ and what’s his nuts of the fried fish shop???? (This is very mean to what’s his nuts I think his name is Hallos) Queen Detective Neve Colombo Gallus who once bought an oil lamp for a girl she said she - and I quote ‘was sweet on’ on and lamented on how beautiful the light was when it was still lit??? That Neve Gallus??? My Neve Gallus? Whose coat is so fancy because it was a gift from someone she helped out and she wears it so often she themed an entire outfit around it???? We’re down at the docs squeezing otters against our chest like they’re stress balls thinking about how cool and awesome and strong and beautiful and kinda and smart and afraid of genuine love our wife is!!!

And who is saying her voice acting’s not good??? Hohoho Santa??? I haven’t seen a single person say that! If you’re out there shoo! Shoo!! If she were some boring ass white guy you would be all over her!!!! Where are you people, come here and tell me exactly why you don’t like this queer woman of color with a beautifully strong nose (which is every strong nose mind you) and eyes more elegant than any that could be carved upon a statue of Aphrodite?
