This is my homecity, Kyiv, on the 2nd of January after russia attacked Ukraine with Shahed drones, 16 Tu-95MC bombers, "Kinzhal" and "Kaliber" missiles during the night.
(Overall russia launched 99 missiles of various types and 35 attack drones over Ukraine during the night and morning).
As for now, 49 people are injured, 43 out of them were hospitalized. 2 people died.
I cannot express the pain I feel seeing the beautiful and strong city where I was raised being so viciously destroyed in the front of the whole world. And I certainly cannot imagine the pain of those, who suffered during the attack today and who lost their loved ones, one of them being Lyudmyla Shevtsova, doctor of biological sciences, professor, teacher of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
DON'T LOOK AWAY.
DON'T FORGET THE FACE OF THE TERROR.
SUPPORT ARMING UKRAINE SO WE CAN DEFEND OURSELVES, OUR LIVES, OUR CULTURE FROM BEING DESTROYED.

Decolonisation is beautiful.
Here’s just one example from one small corner of one small Estonian town, Viljandi.
Tumblr media
Picture 1: An ugly communist party building and car park, built by the soviet occupiers on top of a memorial they demolished for local people who died fighting for independence.
Tumblr media
Pictures 2 & 3: The memorial, lovingly recreated down to every last detail, is back at the heart of a public square.
Tumblr media
There are some commentators abroad who like to lecture russia’s neighbours not to “erase history” by removing the scars of occupation.
Tumblr media
It’s weird because this kind of thing is normal everywhere else in the world. In fact, the very same people who get particularly upset about occupation monuments being removed here also tend to be very articulate about the importance of removing statues to ousted oppressors elsewhere. They just think russian imperialism gets a free pass.
Newsflash: It doesn’t.
Rather than erase history, plenty of occupation junk across the Baltic countries has been transferred to museums so that future generations can learn about it in its proper context. But it doesn’t belong in our public spaces. Local people here hated that brutal communist party building, which desecrated the memorial in a way so symbolic of the wider ugliness of russian imperialism.
Public spaces belong to the people who actually live here and should reflect the kind of free, modern, open, independent countries that we are - and which remember those who made it possible.
The other bad take on this issue is to constantly frame this kind of thing as a ‘reaction/response/message to russia’. That, again, is imperialist thinking. We make decisions for our countries based on what we want our countries to be. We’d want to remove this kind of junk even if russia had ceased to exist in 1991 or if it had flourished into a friendly democracy.
In fact, here in Viljandi, it took three decades of planning and sculpting to recreate the monument based off grainy photos of the original. The building was finally knocked down a couple of years ago and the memorial unveiled this midsummer.
In the interim, the building was expanded after the occupation to serve as Tourist Information, which was pretty ironic considering the communist aim was to keep us closed to the world. But that has a new home and the time has come to return the space.
There was quite a debate locally about whether to recreate it exactly or update it with some kind of modern reinterpretation. Both are legitimate, interesting ideas.
In the end, the only difference is that the materials are now of a much higher quality. I think they made the right decision.
And the fact that it was recreated in perfect detail by people who never saw the original but emerged from occupation with the same determination to live free does send its own new message from our time too. We will continue to exist.
Decolonisation can suffer setbacks, horrendously painful as we see in Ukraine, but the long term trend is unstoppable. The special protection that russian imperialism still enjoys in the minds of many around the world is starting to shatter.

I stopped by to take a photo of it for you all and a rainbow appeared. 🙂

🇵🇱 Hi, a Pole here - few things
Stop fucking spreading panic
No, WW3 is NOT starting right now
2 people, farmers, civilians, NOT SOLDIERS, with families are dead, be respectfull dammit
Poland is not "impatiently waiting to use article 5 and attack Russia"
we ARE however all waiting for Vladimir Putin's painfull death
there are decades worth of history of bloody wars, genosides, oppressions, assasinations, kidnappings, corruption and so SO much more
because of this there is a long history of hate and longing for justice
also millions of poles have families or relatives from Ukraine
Putin WON'T announce capitulation because he KNOWS that would mean his death at the hands of his own people who would kill him in matter of hours
UPDATE (17th Nov. 2022):
Poland is NOT going to force neither article 4 or 5
Polish experts say the missiles used were ukrainian not russian and were probably launched to shoot down rockets fired by Russia but missed and hit the polish border
Thanks. Smacznej kawusi, niech się Putin chujem dusi. Chwała Ukrainie. 🇵🇱🇺🇦

Boycott!
Tumblr media
After what Harris did, if I hear again that she's "The Best Option" I'll take a demon to haunt you! Because she has views like many right-wingers in my fucking country! She proved it by using Putin and Poland as an argument (Fuck Ukraine and the war, right, bitch?)
Now that I have your attention:
-----------------------------------------------
Yes, I'm still annoyed that he uses Putin and Trump as a boogymen…

‼️ AWARENESS POST‼️
There are GENOCIDES happening in multiple parts of the world.
Not wars, or fights between countries but bombings and genocide.
Hundreds and thousands are being killed everyday, and this world is more like a dystopia every single day.
I am a child (15) and I cannot even begin to imagine what other children in Palestine, Congo, and Ukraine are going through.
Their tents and shelter are being blown up and their family is being bombed.
this is no war, this is a genocide.
since just sunday Israel has attacked twice.
And its not just Palestine either.
there are multiple genocides happening as we speak.
And many of us are not able to donate or help but we can bring awareness to those who can.
Ukraine might be closer to a genocide than war currently.
and Congo is facing so many issues and no one is talking about it.
So talk, Bring awareness.
For Palestine:
You don't have to donate if you can't but you can spread the word.
This is for Ukraine:
And wars and genocides still happen when little people talk about it.
For uyghurs:
https://campaignforuyghurs.org/donation/
Spread the word.

On December 30, russia launched at least 6 strikes on Kharkiv. Buildings in the central part of the city are seriously damaged, a fire broke out on the spot.
Currently, at least 16 people are reported injured. This is happening the next day after a massive russian missile barrage in Ukraine.
This is a daily reminder that russia continues to target peaceful Ukrainian cities, trying to destroy them day by day. From the very start of the full-scale invasion Kharkiv continues to suffer from russian strikes, which are directed at residential buildings or historically important places.
UPD: Kharkiv Regional Military Administration reports about 21 injured due to the russian strikes.

Exactly one year ago, on the night of June 6, the Russians committed another terrorist act, this time blowing up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, having previously mined it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I will never forgive Russians.
So many people and animals died, and it's scary to think how many were injured.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My mom was in small village called Dnipryany (it's on a left bank of Dnipro, now it's temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine) at the time, and I was in Kyiv. Imagine my personal horror when you see on the news that the hydroelectric power plant has been blown up, and you have no way to contact your mother because there is no connection on her side.
You can't do anything.
You have only the news feed and the unknown.
She got in touch a couple of hours later and convinced me that the water would not reach her, but it was still incredibly stressful.
There are no words, only hatred.

This is my hometown of Nova Kakhovka right after the flooding.
