If you're a USA citizen and you're upset and ashamed of your current government – take part in protests, educate those around you when you can, and donate to help Ukraine persevere. If you know at least a little about history, and you see that the current processes in the world lead to WW3 – donate to help Ukraine persevere, save democracy, and show dictators around the world that they can't take everything they want by power.

Write to your representatives, engage in protests, share whatever you can, or encourage others to do so. This war is so much more than you can imagine. It's the start of something that has the potential to affect everyone, no matter where you are or what you believe in. The world is a dangerous place, and it needs every one of us to do what we can to make it safer. Don't just think good - do good, in whichever small way you can.

Also friendly reminder that there's no such thing as peace negotiation with russia. It doesn't exist and we learned it by experiencing it via bombs and missiles. Signing peace deal with russia right now means giving them time to build and buy more weapons, and draft bigger army for them to attack again in the future. It's not a peace deal, it's a break for russia to do even more damage. You're literally giving terrorists time off for them to gather more resources.

sometimes i think about how i’ve effectively dug myself a grave with this blog. half my internet presence is about being queer and ukrainian, famously two things russia hates the most.

if trump proceeds with the “peaceful negotiations” that happen without ukraine even present, if he pushes to implement another leader in ukraine (meaning, of course, a pro-russian puppet) and makes my country a quote unquote neutral territory, it obviously means occupation. when there are bombs over my head, i’m at least an abstract target, i can rely on luck not to get hit. if russians come to power tho? i’m toast.

i wish i was exaggerating, but this is already happening to people in occupied parts of the country. those who had social media posts in ukrainian, about queer rights, etc. are being seeked out and threatened. my acquaintance was once on call with her friend on crimea, who had weird noises in the background. when questioned, she casually said that they were coming from russian police beating her neighbour for listening to ukrainian music.

i constantly hear from people who miraculously left the occupied territories how they had to delete everything from their phones, because russian soldiers would do random phone searches — both just on the street or when a person tries to leave the occupied city. it’s not uncommon that people get shot over it.

everything about “peaceful negotiations” and “compromises”, trading “land for a peace agreement” promises me a death sentence

A reminder: do not ask Ukrainians for forgiveness, or grace, or any other kind of emotional work for you right now.

Ukrainians are being bombed, facing genocide, and actively betrayed after over a decade of disappointing alliances with the west. Even the safest Ukrainians must worry about their loved ones, their homes, and the future of their country. The last thing they need is to coddle others who treat voting every four years as the only political tool they have (with some of you not even being able to do that much)

Donate to Ukraine, call your representatives, ask local Ukrainian orgs what you can do, show up to rallies and protests. Those are actual meaningful and realistic actions you can take. Going onto social media and pleading for forgiveness like the “good” russians did three years ago doesn’t do anything for a nation who has been so grossly betrayed

Today marks 11 years since russia started war in Ukraine. 11 years ago russian troops without identifiable insignia invaded the Crimea peninsula.

Went to check some stuff, and yep, this is also the place where some lions, which where stolen from newly occupied Ukrainian territories (Mariupol specifically) and brought to russian-occupied Crimea, mauled a worker in 2024! karma in action, so to say.

But yeah, Zubkov is a huge fucking cunt, very actively supporting russian invasion and occupation of Ukraine. Went to the newly occupied areas on multiple occasions, stole animals from there, including rare species. Did it in a classic russian style: shitilly, which led to some animals dying while being illegally transported.

There is some stuff written about it in English, this article in particular being about him stealing animals from the zoo in Kherson, before it was deoccupied by the Ukrainian army:
