can we talk about how the weirdest part of staticmoth isn't even the fact that they're toxic to each other?

it's how they both react to each other's toxicity with nonchalance.

like. first, during val's tantrum, val throws a glass at vox, or well, in his vicinity.

then vox just... steps away like it's nobody's business, barely bothered by it.

and later, when it's vox's turn to be angry, he roughly pulls val down, shakes him, and shouts at his face.

then val just... shrugs it off.

usually when you think of a toxic relationship, you'd probably think of person A being toxic to person B then person B biting back just as toxic until it's a back and forth of toxicity, a full-blown fight.

but that. that's not staticmoth. staticmoth is fucking weird in that when one is acting toxic towards the other, the other acts nonchalant and doesn't retaliate. then they switch roles on who the toxic one is and who the nonchalant one is.

I am not at all denying the toxicity in their relationship, but they certainly are a really fucking weird brand of toxic that is just. so hard to describe.

Regulus woke up to an empty bed and instantly pouted. He pulled himself out of bed and slipped one of James’ jumpers on before wandering down the hall to find James.

He rounds the corner into the kitchen just in time to see James toss a handful of blueberries into a large bowl. He pads into the kitchen and presses himself against James’ back as he wraps his arms around his waist.

“What are you doing?” Regulus mumbles into James’ shoulder.

“Why are you awake?” James turns and kisses the top of Regulus’ head.

“You left me alone.” Regulus pouts.

“I wanted to bring you breakfast in bed.” James tells him.

Regulus lifts his head to look over James’ shoulder.

“Blueberry pancakes?” Regulus asks with a smile.  

“Mm-hmm.” James hums.

“You really do love me.” Regulus turns and kisses James’ cheek then James turns so he can give Regulus a soft kiss on the lips.

“So very much.” James smiles against Regulus’ lips.  

James goes back to stirring the batter, and Regulus rests his cheek on James’ shoulder and lets himself melt against his back.

“Do you want to stay out here, or should I bring it to you in bed?” James asks.  

“Both.” Regulus mumbles.

James chuckles. “Both?”

“Yes, both. I want to stay here,” Regulus squeezes his arms around James’ waist. “Then I want to have breakfast in bed.”

“I think we can make that happen.” James tells him and turns to kiss his hair again.

James continues to make the pancakes and Regulus never lets go of his waist, creating somewhat of a challenge for him, but James makes it work. When the pancakes are ready, Regulus finally lets go so James can carry a tray with their breakfast back to the bedroom.

Regulus snuggles up to James as they enjoy breakfast in bed and they end up spending the rest of the morning in bed, long after the blueberry pancakes are gone.

the concept of mac and dennis in every universe... i guess in theory it sounds awful, because they're what's keeping each other suffocating, tied down to an apartment that's too big and too small for them at the same time. and maybe in the next universe, and the next, and the next, it's all the same. maybe some things change, or shift, maybe they live in a different apartment, maybe it survives in a fire, or maybe it doesn't and they stay in the suburbs but they also stay at each other's throats. maybe it's as small as where they place the coffee mugs or what music they listen to on their way to work. but it's still them. and maybe they're destined to keep each other miserable no matter what.

or maybe, in a universe, dennis doesn't stop smiling and mac still softens his edges instead of sharpening them after 20 years of living together. maybe they have that house in the suburbs with a dog and a working pool filter. maybe dennis never steps foot in north dakota. maybe mac comes out a little sooner. maybe dennis still leaves philadelphia but he calls, at least. maybe they find their footing, in that brief moment before everything turns to rubble, and maybe in all the other universes but this one they're able to know each other better than anyone else without resenting it.

i hope when tommy was at the 118 or maybe early on in his days at harbor the other firefighters submitted his photo for the hot firefighter calendar as a joke but they actually picked him and someday in the future buck finds an old copy and flips through it and gets a little shock seeing his hot older boyfriend as such a pretty boy with flirty lashes and he keeps it pinned up in his locker and maybe sometimes he gives it a little smooch for good luck on crazy days
