#Hiccup and stoick cough cough

We've all heard of parent taking care of injured child, but what about child taking care of injured parent

so i've always wondered how hiccup's tiny little cut stayed as a scar for over 20 years

and while scarring is common when a baby is cut, that was a very very small cut

it looks like a papercut

and while this could just be a plot tool.

I think it's something better.

I think at some point, they mentioned he was a pretty sickly kid right? I wouldn't doubt it. He was a pretty tiny kid, too, which probably meant he got sick easier.

And who knows what exactly was on Cloudjumper's claw?

It probably got infected, considering Stoick was grieving, rebuilding his house, chiefing, and all sorts of other stuff, so it is likely that he didn't think about it.

Until Hiccup gets sick.

He probably worried so much that he was going to lose Hiccup too, just after Valka. Which is really sad.

But I look for angst in everything, so who am I to say anything?

I've spent almost two months trying to get the first chapter of this HTTYD fic written. Some of these characters and scenes just do not want to cooperate. In the meantime, here's a scene that did come pretty easily.

"Are you sure about this, Gobber?" Stoick asked, for what had to be at least the fifteenth time.

"Yes, Stoick," said the blacksmith, a hint of annoyance creeping into his voice. "They'll all be fine."

"But did it have to be him? Is he really prepared to handle this? Does he have any idea what he's doing?" Stoick waved his hands, clearly agitated. "No offense, but has he ever even killed a dragon before?"

Gobber considered this, and realized he didn't actually know. Best not to mention that part.

"Of course he has!" Gobber replied. "But that's not important. The important thing is to make sure that the kids learn how to survive, and to do that, they need to know their enemy. And no one knows more about the beasts than he does-- he's practically a modern-day Bork!"

Even Stoick couldn't deny that.

"And why can't you do it? You know, the way you have for years and years." He didn't appear willing to give up on this point, so Gobber just sighed and admitted the truth.

"I'm not getting any younger, Stoick," he explained. "And between my regular duties and training the new apprentice, I just don't have the time or energy to also handle dragon training. I'd think if anyone would understand that, it would be you."

"Aye," said Stoick. "I do understand. I suppose I'm just worried about... you know."

Gobber did know. That was the problem. 

"Mhm," he grumbled noncommittally.

"Speaking of your new apprentice, how is he doing?" Stoick seemed to have decided changing the subject was the best course of action here, and Gobber would not complain.

"Oh, a right terror he is," said Gobber, sighing. "Always touching everything and knocking things over and getting into trouble. Not so different from the last one."

"The last one, eh?" Stoick smiled.

"And just as clever, too," laughed the blacksmith. "I have high hopes for the boy. I have a feeling that when I finally do get around to retiring, the forge will be in good hands."

Snotlout was always mean to him. Not that the twins were any better, he just stood out like a sore thumb.

Hiccup was sick. Again. And like always, he rubbed his face in it.

“You’re so weak!” He shouts at him, the 8 year old standing a short distance away from him as he stands on the porch of his house.

He has a blanket wrapped around his shoulders, his eyes are bloodshot, his hair a mess and he can’t stop coughing.

“You’re so weak and small! No wonder nobody likes you!”

“I’m not weak!” Hiccup shouts back at him, a coughing fit breaks through him.

There’s a stabbing pain.

No, a burning pain.

He coughs and coughs, he can’t breathe.

“I’m not… I’m not weak!” Hiccup shouts at him again, feeling embarrassed as his coughing just proved the opposite.

“Yes, you are!”

“Hiccup, I never said you were.”

“You’re just a weak little girl. And my dad says that one of these days, you’ll be dead and Chief Stoick will get a real heir!” Snotlout continues to shout at him.

Tears spring to Hiccup’s eyes. He can’t tell if it’s because of how awful he feels, the frustration or his hurtful words. He's not a weak little girl.

“I’m not weak,” He sobs. “And I won’t die.”

“No, you won’t. Don’t worry about anything, not even about what those stupid dreams are telling you. You’re not weak.”

“I’m not weak.”

“You’re not weak.”

Reasons why Jim Lake jr is Hiccup's descendant (and not tom he can go eat shit)

The httyd world and TOA world might be in the same universe.

Astrid once mentioned trolls and used them as an insult "son of a half-troll rock eating!—" and Gobber also said "Trolls exist! They steal and eat your socks, but only the left ones"

Familiar right? Trolls in the TOA world are attached to socks and those are their meals and snacks.

Gnomes and trolls also exist when hiccup stated "that it'll scare gnomes and trolls"

In the Trollhunters museum we can see that Stoick's helmet along with the Viking ship placed in the museum, while his sword was in the hero's Forge. The yaknog jug Astrid carried also appeared in Trollhunters. (The episode where blinky and the others went into Gato's mouth)

Jim's Armor also shares much similarities to Httyd's armors.

Charlemagne isn't much old to exist in the Viking years. He and other dragons could've probably evolved through the years as he looks more of a troll-dragon mix.

Sentinels are also stone creatures (dragons) made out of LIVING stone (much like Trolls), this could be the ancestors of The troll dragons from ROTT movie and also evolved through the years that they could adapt not just rocks and stones but also gems and crystals for skin. The only problem is Sentinel's can survive in the sun while trolls can't, which leads to my other theory.

(sentinel and troll dragon theory) Troll dragons might be the offspring of a sentinel and Troll forming a hybrid that's called The troll dragons. And throughout the years these troll dragons have adapted other environments which made them only not have rock/stone for skin but also gems and crystals.

Now moving on to Jim and Hiccup.

But how is Jim Hiccup's descendant?

— Jim and Hiccup share similarities. (A lot) Jim and Hiccup are both goofy but have a brave heart, they both would sacrifice themselves for their loved ones. They will do everything just to accomplish what they desire. (They're also very embarrassing to be around their crush *cough* Astrid and Claire)

Both grew up being good at weaponry. They were both struck at lightning. Not to mention they kinda look alike and Young hiccup used to Hunt trolls, and Jim in the books was in a blood line of Troll hunters

Barbara's side of family is probably Hiccup's blood continuing, Barbara (somehow) lowkey has potential being a relative to hiccup (both are brunette's too, and her blue eyes match Astrid's) Barbara also looks (not a lot, but it works) like Valka. (Zephyr also had brown hair and blue eyes.)

The troll-market looks identical to the hidden world as it has many glowing/magic crystals/gems and other stones. (The heart stone looks like the giant crystal that the light furry and toothless made their roars as the queen and king of dragons in the hidden world)

And in the first episode of the Trollhunters Toothless made a cameo as an easter egg and wallpaper for jim's laptop.

The book of dragons would be a historical artifact that's probably laying on Charlemagne's Cave (i forgot what it's called lol)

Maces and Talons also made an appearance with Blinky and Draal.

Arcane Order

—This could also mean that the bird-dragon like mask that Bellroc wore was from a dragon they probably slayed.

The bewilder beast might have been created by Skrael's magic (these demi gods have long life and magic and they would create anything they wanted) Skrael probably thought of creating a creature that would inherit his Ice based magic.

Gobber is the janitor.

Hiccup is the geek.

Astrid is the gym girl.

Fishlegs is the nerd.

Snotlout as the Jock. (and/or theatre kid. Cough cough, Sir Ulgerthorp.)

Tuffnut is the prankster.

Ruffnut is the cheer captain. (who is also a prankster.)

Dagur is band kid. (I can see it.)

Heather is the goth.

Eret as the athletic kid/transfer kid. (He’s one of them idk.)

Krogan is the metalhead.

Viggo is the quiet kid. (Idk.)

Ryker is the loud one.

ALL CHARACTERS WILL BE THE SAME AGE OF 16-19 TO MAKE MORE SENSE.

The girl tries to take deep breaths, her coughing calming down a bit.

She leans against him for a moment as she collects herself. “Yeah… yeah I-I’m okay.”

Melodía nods in agreement, already shivering a little. Geez, humans REALLY weren’t built for the cold, were they? At the mention of hot chocolate, she perks up.

“Hot… what?” 

Hiccup turned to Toothless, gesturing to Melodía. "Hey, bud, think you could help her stay warm until we get to shore?"

The dragon leapt to the back of the boat, positioning himself behind the former mermaid. He wrapped his wings around her, and opened his mouth, doing a low plasma burn. It put out a good amount of heat.

"Thanks, bud!"

He started rowing them back to the docks.

Grinned, he repeated, "Hot chocolate. It's...we'll, you'll see. But it's something to drink, it'll help us both warm up a bit."

Seeing the soaked bandage on her hand, he added, "I'll tend to that burn of yours again when we get back, too."

They were both still drenched when they got back inside the hut, though the water no longer dropped off of them.

"We should both change into dry clothes--" Wait. She didn't have a spare set of clothes, did she?

That's when his eyes fell on a satchel that hadn't been there before, a note attached to it.

Getting closer, he could see it was from Stoick.

'Found some more clothes for the shipwrecked lass.'

Hiccup picked up the satchel, bringing it back to Melodía.

"Here, try these, and we'll put our wet clothes by the fire to dry. I'll start the hot chocolate, if you want to get changed upstairs first?"

Stoick coughed again. "You can talk to me," said Stoick. "I've un-banished you." "So the exile is off, then, is it, Father?" asked Hiccup. "If I go and kill myself talking to this Beast from Hell, I will be considered Heroic enough to join the Tribe of Hooligans?"

I have a love/hate relationship with the third HTTYD movie. Like, there are some things I like about it, but the movie itself kinda sucked.

Criticisms listed because I don't feel like writing paragraphs:

Unnecessary romance

Unnecessary romance being put above friendship or anything else in general. Real original. Totally not amatonormative. /sarcasm

What the actual fuck was the Light Fury's design?! They didn't even give her a name! Furthermore, she would've been so much cooler as her own character and not a 2D love interest.

Little to no info about the Night Furies, other than yet another big bad villain attempted to wipe them out. Real surprise.

Snotlout crushing on Valka?? Where the fuck did that come from?! It'd be cute if it was just admiration, but an outright crush?

Speaking of which, why the fuck did they cut out the scene of Valka saving Snotlout?! At least that would've explained it! Like, the crush would've made a little more sense if they had kept that in there.

We learned little to nothing about the Hidden World. A major theme of the first two HTTYD movies was the pursuit of knowledge. WTF happened to that?! *cough*unnecessaryromance*coughcough*

The dragons did not have to leave in the end. Like, I can imagine of them would've had to because of overpopulation, but why don't the Berkians just spread out on their island? Did they magically forget there's a whole ass forest they could inhabit? Like I get that there were more bad guys out there like Drago and Grimmel, but what the fuck happened to advocating for dragons everywhere? Team up with other islands to take on those motherfuckers! Make some allies! Like they really suddenly portrayed not wanting your dragon to leave as "selfish." Really?

Furthermore, don't different dragons have different climates? Certainly, one cave is not going to be home for ALL of them. No matter how big a cave is. And wouldn't all dragons located in one area just leave them more vulnerable to attack? It'd be pretty difficult to find, but humans have found difficult places before and they'll do it again. Grimmel could've easily used his flying machine to go into that cave. Just saying.

I know a lot of people say that at least Valka, Astrid, and Ruffnut weren't done by Disney, but that really depends on many factors, such as who's fighting for diversity and how willing the executives are to listen. I don't know what the deal was with the diversity rep with the HTTYD franchise, so no comment here. (Although, to be fair, at least Dreamworks aren't purchasing every goddamn studio out there and claiming copyright of the names of literal gods from a culture sacred to many)

Also didn't like the only interaction between Valka and Astrid was talking about Hiccup in that deleted scenes. Come on, they can get deeper than that. (there's also that scene in that one comic where she talks about her memories with Stoick, which is better and Stoick's death would have impacted her greatly when he literally died in front of her so that at least made sense, but still. We're not shown them talking about anything other than that.)

this makes so much sense! and also oh dear, this means that both Stoick and Hiccup the Elder get to spend the night thinking Younger is well and truly dead. I'm sure something this terrible will never happen again and will definitely not go on for three months (*cough*book 7*cough*).

I wonder if Astrid got one of the black stars that were awarded after the battle? I think that would make sense. Poor Fishlegs indeed. Although maybe he's lucky in this case, it probably would've just gotten in the way of his poetry.

First of all, I love your art and the half-brothers AU is Absolutely Phenomenal

Second of all, I understand if you're still kind of on break from it so take this question at your own pace. Or don't answer it at all. You don't owe me anything.

And thirdly, I'm curious how book 2 might play out in the half-brothers au. Book Alvin is pretty fixated on Grimbeard the Ghastly's heir ("an heir for a hand", and all that). Would he be able to identify Younger Hiccup as Grimbeard's heir, or would he just kind of figure since there are two Hiccups who are both descendants of Grimbeard (and who both have a dragon named "Toothless") he should kill them both just to be safe? (and in that case, how would he end up with a vendetta against Younger Hiccup specifically?)

Stoick being the connecting figure between Elder and Younger, that does indeed make them both candidates to be Grimbeard's heir! (Same goes for Snotlout and Adelaide, who are also part Chucklehead's line through Baggybum the Beerbelly!)

As Stoick's firstborn and the official heir to Berk, Alvin has his eyes set on Elder in the beginning as The Guy he needs to Eliminate, and since Snotlout is the one who will become heir to Berk if Elder dies, Minicup is barely even on the table. The idea that it's actually Minicup who is his proper rival isn't even considered until they end up in the underwater cavern together and Baby Tooth is the one who sniffs out Grimbeard's real treasure.

The events of How to be a Pirate carry out as usual, with Snotlout finding the chest, though neither brother gets the chance to declare themselves heir when Alvin asks. Minicup and Little Fish end up in Grimbeard's cavern with Alvin, where Alvin comes to the conclusion that this Hiccup is the one who's going to prove a problem to him.

In the stories that come after, Elder is more of an afterthought, and Alvin will only think to get rid of him if he starts asserting his place in the Arm's Race for the Crown. (Same goes for the Jorgensens!)

Elder doesn't even want to be heir of Berk, let alone Grimbeard! Younger doesn't exactly have a choice in the matter since Fate Itself is the one dumping Lost Things into his hands 😔 As long as Elder doesn't start gunning to be king, Alvin will leave him alone.

imagining stoick staying up all night long after the dire straights episode and listening to hiccup breathe as he sleeps because hiccup keeps throwing up water and coughing until he turns blue and stoick is convinced he’s going to die in his sleep. vikings probably dry drowned a lot and stoick remembers staying up all night watching hiccup breathe when he’d been born premature and then again after the fight with the red death when he’d lost his leg and then AGAIN when he’d been hit by lightning. legendary  was  no  over exaggeration,  even  eric's  kingdom  had  heard  the  stories  of  stoick  the  vast.  those  stories  had  always  fascinated  eric.  when  word  of  his  death  had  reached  eric's  land,  he  had  been  devastated.  not  only  for  berk  and  its  people  but  he'd  always  dreamed  of  the  chance  to  meet  such  a  legend. 

his  eyes  fall  to  hiccup's  prosthetic  leg  and  an  inadvertent  chuckle  slips  from  his  lips.  embarrassed  he  quickly  lifts  a  hand  to  his  mouth  and  lets  out  a cough  to  cover  his  gaffe.  it  does  help  hearing  hiccup  chuckle  himself.  ❛ that  kind  of  dedication  is  very  admirable  though. ❜  eric  knew  his  mother  would  lock  him  in  the  castle  for  the  remainder  of  his  life  if  ever  came  home  with  an  injury  like  that.  even  a  simple  scratch  on  his  head  sent  her  spiraling.  trying  to  ban  him  from  sailing  or  adventuring  all  because  of  a  simple  surface  injury.  it  seemed  a  little  ridiculous  to  him.

A deep sigh escaped the young chief as Eric mentioned his parents. Or well one in particular. Eric's mother. He wasn't the expert on mothers. He hardly even knew his own. But his dad. Sounds like the two would have gotten along more than just fine. Sadly he was no longer around. "I get it... my dad was the hardest person to convince too. The great Stoick the Vast. A legendary dragon slayer and master of the war effort in strategy." So many stories remained of his father since his untimely passing. It was hard to live up to a father like that. Because he in turn was so vastly different than him.

"But... he was the first adult I convinced. That peace was possible with the dragons. I don't recommend losing a limb trying to get your point across trust me it's not fun." He tries to chuckle a bit lightheartedly about the situation and he did some other choice things he didn't need to mention but in the end the war ended and peace was finally able to be achieved. But even now as the chief he was still meeting resistance.

"You have to be persistent. Soothe the worries of even the most severe of doubters , but it is not guaranteed. Making allies with similar view and goals might help sway others , but not always." There was always going to be those select few you could not just please ever. And they were the ones who made everything you were trying to accomplish a living nightmare.

random thought, but sometimes I'm baffled at people's blindness to Vigcup being deliberately, ehem, CODED the way that they are. Like, Throk literally refers to Ruffnut as "dear Ruff" and in httyd2 Stoick calls Valka "my dear" like four times. Come on guys XD

Like, I'm not saying people have to ship it. I just want people to acknowledge that Viggo's feelings for Hiccup were there. He's a heavily queer coded character!

Also, I've noticed that Alfred Molina doesn't use a lot of pet names in movies unless there is some sort of special connection with the character in question. For instance, "sweetheart", in The Sorcerer's Apprentice, (another instance in which the two were enemies). The only other time I've really heard him use pet names other than The Sorcerer's Apprentice and Race to the Edge was Species (1995) during a sex scene. And, "my dear" was improvised by Alfred! He put the work into the subtext, and people are just straight up denying it. In my opinion, his last words to Hiccup couldn't have made his romantic feelings any clearer.

Speaking of "dear", for the wip word game:
