“But maybe, just maybe, I am, and I’m gonna like, do some evil crap, and, and make you even more scrawny!” That got her to burst out laughing, before she eventually calmed herself down and shook her head, placing a hand on his shoulder. “Sorry, sorry, I’m really being an a**— actually, I’m all over the place right now, aren’t I? Look, that? That’s my bad, but, y’know, I kinda just appeared on some ‘random’ island, so… cut me some slack, ‘Kay? Okay.”
Her eyes showed an amount of shock and surprise, because she did not know that this Hiccup had it in him. Raising her hands in mock defense, she took a small step backwards. “Woah there, tough guy! Let’s not get all angsty now! I was just tryna have some fun.”
———
“Not- not like I’m one of them—“ She quickly defended. “Trust me, I do not associate myself with them. I uh… I came from hunters, yeah, but I have a different family now…” Oh, Gods, she was probably confusing him to no end right now. “Look, I uh, I’m just saying that you don’t have to worry about me trying to hurt your dragon, okay?”
That got her to pause, and she looked up at him, eyes curious. Drawing was one of her few things, and it was familiar. So right now, when she was here, in a situation she was not familiar with at all? She was glad to talk about her art. “Y-yeah, I got a bunch of crap in here; people, dragons, islands, even some weapon and armor designs— my uh, my brother helped me with the armor, he… he’s pretty cool, I look up to him like, a lot.”
She was calmer now, and she just nodded at Hiccup and followed him to the village.
———
Danny’s hands were in the pockets of her pants; with it being mid summer, and there was not a worry in her mind about any potential attacks [at least on her Berk], she was dressed casually, mainly for field and forge work.
“Thanks, Hiccup, pretty uh, pretty cool island—“ She immediately knew who each and every one of these people were, and they weren’t teasing, they were being downright rude, especially Snotlout, and she wasn’t tolerating that.
“No, no, gimme a sec…” Right now, she was not seeing them as higher than her, because while she was here, they were equals, and right now, with how they were acting? They were way below her.
Striding up to them, she placed both her hands on either of Snotlouts shoulder, roughing shoving him to the ground, and placing one of her feet atop his wrist— not hard, but enough so he wouldn’t be able to move it. “Well excuse you, little man, but who the hell do you think you are?! Who do any of you think you are?! You two—“ She shoved a finger at the twins. “You snicker about this and that, but you can’t do half the s*** that he can! All you guys do is bicker and fight like children! You—“ She pointed to Fishlegs, but found that there wasn’t much to insult. “You’re practically as pathetic as Hiccup, hanging around these a**holes.” She just decided to ignore Astrid for now, as she wasn’t the problem. And… she was Hiccups future wife.
(Danny with adults vs Danny with other teens is honestly just— 🤣)
Arms out, he replied, "So go ahead! I doubt it'll make a difference."
She was bluffing, she had to be. There's no way she was a witch.
Her laughter made Hiccup a bit wary, and he flinched as she placed a hand on his shoulder.
"What's so funny?"
------------
A new family now? What happened?
He could at the very least tell but she didn't really want to talk about it, so he didn't push for an answer.
His stance relaxed a bit, and he gave a nod. "That, that's good to know. Thanks. Because, if anyone else here caught wind of this...he'd be dead, and...I'd be even more of an outcast than I already am."
As she approached the other teens, Hiccup's eyes widened. "Uh, wait, what are you doing?!"
His jaw dropped as she pushed Snotlout to the ground. Hiccup's cousin made a noise as he fell, and stared up at Danielle angrily. "I don't have to defend myself to you, outsider!" Snotlout spat out. "I'm going to be chief someday, because I'm way better than Hiccup the Useless!"
The twins didn't seem bothered by her accusations. "Why are you defending Hiccup?" Tuffnut asked.
"Yeah, who even are you?" Tuffnut questioned.
Fishlegs actually let out a little whimper, scurrying away, while Astrid's arms were crossed, glaring at Danielle.
Astrid hadn't taken part in the group's teasing, but she was frustrated with Hiccup for slowing her down in dragon training.
Hiccup rushed between them, pulling Danielle off of Snotlout. Or, at least attempting to. "Whoa! Let's, let's just take a step back, here. It's her first day on Berk, she's, she's a little disoriented from washing up on our shores. So, we should really be going now..."

(poor hiccup doesn't know what's about to happen to him 💀🤣)
Freya could hear the slight...hesitation in his voice as he gave his response. It made her curious as to what was really on his mind - he did say that's not entirely what he meant after all. Not wanting to push for answers, mostly because she was trying to recover from her embarrassment, she merely nodded in agreement, fidgeting with her hands.
She really needed to learn how to keep her emotions in check, that's for sure.Hiccup's words stunned her for a moment, blinking in slight surprise at the rather bold statement. She did not want to appear even more flustered, though, having enough of that for one day. So, lifting her chin, she lightly poked at his chest, scooting herself back in the process, "Well, too bad. You can't stare at my eyes forever."
Shaking her head, Freya continued to wave her hands while she spoke: "I-I'm still happy, but we can't just...put this to the side now, Hiccup! I mean, this is your dad, here! Y'know, the Chief?" She sighed once she stopped pacing, looking at the ground in worry - all until he placed his hands on her arms.
...
Zap.
She slowly lifted her gaze, allowing it to rest on him as he consoled her, although it nearly went completely in one ear and out of the other, almost not paying attention. Despite how..delicate it was, the touch sent an immense surge of the weird, fluttery, feeling as though it were a strong wind passing by her - ruffling her from the inside. Slightly in a daze, she weakly nodded, mumbling out her response: "Yeah...yeah, okay.." Once he removed his gentle hold, the fluttering didn't stop.. and neither did the small entrancement.
Freya hadn't realized it, but her back was straightened up more, and her eyes were just as wide as his. Blinking away her shock, she couldn't push away the sudden longing for..that to happen again, but she sure could ignore it - try to, at least.
Fiddling some more with her hair, a frown formed on her lips as she muttered: "Yeah...will he see how 'wrong he is' if I'm over there not knowing how to say something..?" Faintly snorting, she finished in a sarcastic manner, "I just hope it won't be as bad as you, though." She glanced up at the trees that surrounded them, hearing a few birds chirping in the midst of the covering of the branches and leaves. Once Hiccup mentioned the possibility of Gobber coming, she immediately looked at him once more with a confounded expression.
"You're kidding me...Gobber might be coming too?" Freya, despite the nerves that tried to remain, lightly chuckled at the thought of having him over as well. "If he's there, we'll never hear the end of it from him.." She figured he would support the 'relationship', but he also would probably make it a point to tease them in some way.
Keeping her gaze settled on Hiccup, she took in his words. 'How..we make it out to be..' Striving to enlighten the mood, she dimly smiled, tapping her leg, "It shouldn't be too hard, then.."
Suppressing another chuckle, Freya watched him deftly mount Toothless, folding her arms with an amused tilt of her head. "There's those unintentional puns of yours again." She thought it over, concluding that she had the time available to join him. Whistling for Blaze, who nudged the tree branch into some bushes for the next opportunity when they might come over there, she beckoned him forward, "I got some time to spare, so why not?"
Nimbly mounting Blaze, she mischievously grinned, "Let's hope Gobber won't be upset. Who knows how that'll end for you." Tapping Blaze on his neck, he flew up, gliding all the way to their destination.
-------------------------
As soon as they landed, she quickly heard her little sister's voice, endlessly talking Gobber's ears off with...whatever she was rambling about. Briefly rolling her eyes, she rubbed Blaze's head, quietly telling him to stay out of the forge before she strode inside of it herself, crossing her arms at the sight of the younger girl talking animatedly. "Care to tell me why you're here?" Freya said, slowly tapping her arm as Ayla turned around with a newfound grumpy expression.
"Yeah! You guys totally left me behind! I thought you'd be here but nooo! You guys ran off somewhere, probably smooching and all that, while I was trying to--" Her words were, thankfully, cut short as her older sister hastily grabbed a piece of nearby parchment paper, holding it up in front of her.
"Wanna draw your future saddle?"
Ayla immediately perked up, a beaming smile on her features, "Oh, yeah, sure!" She wasted no time in grabbing the paper from her hands, happily skipping towards the same table where they had sketched out her helmet. "C'mon, come see what you think of this, Fey!" Her grin didn't waver, even at Freya's small annoyed groan, knowing that she was already embarrassed.
Reluctantly agreeing, Freya stood by her side and watched her try to draw what she visualized in her head, having to wait to give any form of help to Hiccup and Gobber while she did so.
What if I could, though? He thought to himself. Because he honestly felt like he could, and never grow tired of looking at her, or looking into her eyes.
They stared at each other, wide-eyed for a few moments, and Hiccup felt it again, that feeling... He couldn't stop it, even if he tried.
She looked a little stunned...he knew he did, too.
Clearing his throat, he ran a hand through his hair, trying to fight the urge to get closer to her, to put his arms around her---
No, he couldn't. So instead, he started pacing, hoping it would subside.
Shaking his head, he said to her, "No, I don't think anyone could be as bad as me at that. Even if that did happen, they'd probably just...chalk it up to young love, or something..."
Love?
Now on Toothless, he smiled widely at her. "Unintentional? That, Freya, was entirely intentional!"
------------
Toothless stayed outside with Blaze, while Hiccup rushed inside, putting his leather apron on and gathering some of his tools.
As soon as Gobber was able to get away from Ayla, he said, "Ah! There ya are. I thought you wouldn't show today!"
"Sorry, Gobber. I uh, I helped with a training session this morning."
Gobber waved a hand casually. "Eh, it's alright. I know ya always get yer work done. There's some swords and axes that need sharpenin, why don't ya get started with that?"
Hiccup nodded, getting straight to work.
There were only four or five, so it shouldn't take too long.
---
As he sharpened the third sword, his mind wandered, back to what happened earlier.
The kiss on his cheek.
The jolt of lightning he felt.
Freya's eyes.
Sneaking a glimpse at her across the forge, a grin pulled at the corner of his mouth.
Our relationship may be fake, he thought, but I know what I feel for her is real...
Unfortunately, he did one of the worst things he could do while working in the forge, a mistake he only made once before.
He wasn't watching what he was doing.
Missing the sharpening stone, his hands slipped, and the sword flipped, slicing into his hand.
"Agh!"
Dropping the sword, it clattered to the ground, and he inhaled sharply through his teeth and let out a hiss, his features scrunched up as pain radiated through his palm.
Holding the wrist of his injured hand, he closed his eyes, trying to take a deep breath, and opened them back up to see that it was bleeding.
It wasn't the worst injury he'd ever had, but it sure hurt.
He just hoped it wasn't so deep that it would need to be sewn up...

“Huh, well, your dad sure does have a knack for… naming… things. ‘Dragons Nest,’ how original,” she said sarcastically, doing brief jazz hands as she spoke the words ‘Dragons Nest.
Oh. Oh no. Yeah, she was really going to have to watch what she said here, because this Hiccup was kind of dumb, and wasn’t big ol’ ‘Dragon Master’ yet.
Deciding to play it off lightly, she just shrugged, looking down at him smugly— Ha! She got to look down on him, this was amazing. “I dunno, man, maybe I’m a witch, a witch who knows everything about dragons. Don’t burn me at the stake, ‘Kay? Okay.”
Gods, of course she knew about that d*** stream, she’d lived here for years technically! But she had to keep her cool, because this Hiccup didn’t know that. “Okay, that works, but, I’m gonna need a wineskin, or a canteen, or something to fill up.” She rolled her eyes, because she also knew about the Great Hall. “Uh, thanks, I’ll just like, break in after hours, steal some crap, no biggie, right? If I get caught I’ll just blame it on you, sound good?”
Danny just grinned, already getting more than a little kick out of this. “You are so, very welcome, good sir. Y’know, using my witchy powers, I can tell you have a crush on someone, and if you want to go get said crush? You’re gonna have to look a lot different.” Okay, yeah, she needed to stop. Teasing him was one thing, but bullying him was what this was going to turn into if she didn’t cut it out. She was also lying, knowing looks were probably the last thing that Astrid thought about when choosing him.
———
“I… guess? Not really sailors, but… traveling dragon hunters…” she admitted begrudgingly.
She scoffed again. “Yeah, because you look like a cold hearted Barbarian alright. Look, I was just checking, okay? No need to be all ‘whatever’ about it.”
She once again shook her head. “Nope. Not a clue…” she said, not lying whatsoever.
“Oh, uh…” Not wasting any time, she dumped out the satchel and began rummaging through the items; her sketchbook and charcoals, a couple viles filled with more of the cure, because she wasn’t completely done with that yet, a water jug of her own, and… huh? What was that paper?
Picking it up, she read it over quickly, eyes widening as she took it in.
Oh. My. Gods. She’d lost it! She had officially lost it! What the heck was this?!
Looking at Hiccup, she took him in one more time… His leg. It was there. Like, there there. Flesh and bone leg. He was going to lose that in two weeks. His entire life was going to change in two weeks. And she was going to be there to witness it.
Ripping that in half and throwing it in to small lake, Danny clapped her hands together and stood up. “Welp! I’ve lost my mind! You, you know what? I’ve had a change in heart, let’s go to that village of yours huh? Give me a tour?”
"Yeah, can't argue with you there." After all, his name was Hiccup. He genuinely didn't know how much say his mother had in that choice, but his dad didn't disagree with it.
He gave her a cautious, skeptical look. "You're no witch..."
As she spoke of him having a crush on someone, his eyes widened, then narrowed. "Oh, wow, so...so you can make some random guess that I like someone, and then you use it as a new way to insult me?" His gestures were wide, as if to make up for the lack of size in his stature, his voice growing louder, his expression reflecting years of anger and frustration with himself. "I know I'm not what I should be, I don't need it to be pointed out to my face, least of all by you."
-------------
Hiccup lived in a whole village of dragon killers, so he wasn't too fazed by where she was from. With a shrug, he said, "Oh. Okay." He had learned a lot about dragons with Toothless, but in reality, how could Hiccup stop any number of people from hunting or killing dragons? He couldn't even stop them from looking down on him.
Seeing the sketchbook and pencils falling out of her bag, he quietly asked, "You...you like to draw?"
But she seemed distracted, reading some paper that was in her bag.
He didn't pry, he just looked over at Toothless, waiting for her to finish, but if he had, the page would have been completely blank in his eyes.
The clap made him jump, and he looked over at Danielle, shocked in her change of countenance. "Uh...o-okay. Yeah, I guess we can go." Standing up, he said a quick goodbye to Toothless, leading her back to Berk.
--------------
"...Well, I uh, I think that's just about everything."
They were in the center of the village, not far from the forge.
A group walked past them, snickering at Hiccup.
The biggest offender was Snotlout, leering at the chiefs son. The twins were there, the main source of the snickering. Fishlegs was silent, fiddling with his hands, and Astrid rolled her eyes, her axe slung across her back.
Hiccup recoiled at their looks, their words, though his brows lowered, clearly attempting to hold back the anger he felt.
The group was so focused on Hiccup, they didn't pay any mind to Danny.
"Just... Let's go, Danielle." He said quietly to her, his fists clenched at his sides. "We should get something to eat, before they get there."
And with that, he led her towards the Great Hall.

The jellyfish does a happy little wiggle, swimming around the two of them before making itself comfortable in Hiccup’s lap. Melodía giggles.
“I swear, I think the twins might be right about you being magical. Dragons, jellyfish, mermaids, we all are just drawn to you.” She puts her head on his shoulder, holding his hand.
“I still can’t believe we’re gonna get married. It’s amazing.” The girl rubs the back of his hand with her thumb. “It’s so nice to have you. Someone I can talk with, and be myself. And we can go everywhere together, tell each other everything. I wasn’t sure if I’d ever find someone like that.”
She smiles to herself, a fond look in her eyes as she looks up at the jellyfish. “I remember when I first saw you, in the cove. I was scared at first. Honestly, I was more scared of you than I was of Toothless. But… I saw the way you were with him. You gave him your complete and total trust. And the way you did things… like drawing in the sand with a stick. Or taking a bite of that fish Toothless shared with you.” She giggles. “You were different from any human I’d ever seen. You were gentle, and kind. And I loved that. Not to mention you were adorable.” The princess nuzzles him. “You fascinated me, really. The way you walked, the way you talked, that cute little thing you do with your hands.” The mermaid demonstrates, gesturing dramatically like he does when he speaks. “And your smile… gods, that smile…” She caresses his face. “I loved it all. I still do.”
“And now, knowing what I know… yknow, about how you used to be just as lonely as I was, before you met Toothless… I really wish I had gotten your attention sooner. But… the whole thing with my parents had only just happened, so… I just couldn’t bring myself to. I wanted to, but…I was terrified. I’m sorry I didn’t.”
Hiccup chuckled at the jellyfish, thinking it wasn't too different from the Night Terrors back on the Edge.
"What? Me, magical?" Shaking his head, he concluded, "Mm, no, that can't be right." Wagging a finger at her, he teasingly said, "You really shouldn't take much of what the twins say seriously."
Looking down at their intertwined hands, he nodded. "Me neither. But, I had been planning to ask for some time, so, I really shouldn't be in disbelief."
"I felt the same way. Turns out I was just... looking in the wrong place."
She was scared of him back then? He was essentially a walking splinter...
His cheeks reddened as she described what she'd seen back then, and he shuddered at the mention of the fish. "Eugh, don't remind me! I know Toothless meant well that day, but...it was awful."
At the mention of his hands, he laughed lightly. "What, what do you mean, the thing I do with my hands? I--I don't do anything differently than others...do I?" By the end of his sentence, he was seriously questioning how well he actually knew himself.
Hearing her explain, his eyes softened, and he pulled her closer. "The important thing, is that we did get to meet, and we're here now, together. Actually, I was...I was actually quite taken with you, when I first saw you, too."
Thinking back to that day, he began to explain further. "You were so shy, yet so brave, too. I had grown up, being told the usual things, to basically steer far away from merfolk, but you...your eyes were kind, and your smile was genuine. Even though we couldn't speak, we still found a way. And that...was one of my favorite conversations to date."
"I went back to the cove more than a few times after that, hoping to find you again...and when I did..." He grinned at her. "Well, you know the rest."

She raised an eyebrow, stifling back a laugh. “‘Consider myself out of it?’ Come on, dude, I was ‘out of it’ anyways, not like you were gonna do anything.”
There were also certain scars the she’d grown to like, but those were few and far between. Basically, the tiny pale scars that dotted across her entire face, taking the appearance of freckles, which she received from the Bewilderbeast’s ice blasts, the small shards having gotten stuck in her skin.
“Dragon raids?” Oh, right, if her suspicions were correct, then this was old Berk, before they’d befriended the dragons. “‘The Nest?’” Hiccup had told her about it before, but he said that they needed Toothless to find it. “Yeah, they ain’t gonna find the nest, you need a dragon to find a dragons nest. I thought that was obvious.” Nodding slowly, she continued, “Well, staying completely hidden would be great n’ all, but… I’m going to need food, and water that’s like, drinkable, not this crap.”
Coming down from that shock, joking about this seemed to be the best way to go about this. And, this Hiccup wasn’t the Chief yet, he also… wasn’t an adult in his mid twenties, so she technically didn’t have to have to respect him, at all.
“No, I believe it! I mean look at ya! You’re… you! Gangly, scrawny, pathetic, disgusting hair by the way. And for Thors sake, I thought you were a walking fishbone before I got closer!”
———
Her expression contorted into one of sheer disgust, clearly not amused by the regurgitated fish that was now at her side.
Plugging her nose, she cautiously kicked the fish into the water, watching it eventually float back up to the surface. “No,” she stated, staring flatly at Toothless.
She shrugged, shifting on the ground so that her back was leaning against a rock. “A boat, I was born in like, the middle of the ocean, not on an island.”
Gods, this was so weird, but… she could still trust this Hiccup, right? He really posed no threat to her, literally at all.
“So… on the off chance that I uh, went into the village—“ Because nights on Berk were cold. “—I wouldn’t be like, beheaded or anything, right? And um, I could like sleep somewhere?”
Sighing, she shook her head. “Look, I have no clue what’s going on or, or how I got here, but, maybe we could lie and say I just washed up or something?”
Hiccup's brows lowered, his mouth set in a slight frown.
This Danielle was going to be loads of fun to be around, he could already tell.
"Yeah. That's what my dad calls it, anyway."
He slowly turned to face her, brows now furrowed together. "No, that's, that's not obvious. How do you know that?"
Exhaling through his nose, he gestured west. "There's a freshwater stream down that way. It's got some fish, too, but if you are willing to go to the village, you can find what you need in what we call the Great Hall. It's the... behemoth building at the top of a stone staircase. You can't miss it."
"Oh, wow," he spoke sarcastically, "thanks for...all of that." Rolling his eyes, he turned away.
It's not like he was looking for a compliment, but he already knew his appearance was...lacking. He didn't need it pointed out to him, to his face.
---------------
Toothless narrowed his eyes, eating the fish she refused back up.
Making his way to a tree, he wrapped his tail around a limb, wrapping himself up in his wings as he hung from it upside down.
Hiccup raised a brow. A boat?
"So... you're from seafarers, then?"
He stared at her as if she had two heads. "This may be the Barbaric Archipelago, but you do realize we are vikings, not barbarians, right?"
Shaking his head, he continued. "No, you won't be beheaded. You'll have a better chance at lying low if you keep your distance from me in the village."
Okay. First, she's prickly, then not awful? Then she insults him, and now she's...this? Hiccup didn't know what to make of this stranger.
"Wait, you really don't know how you got here?"
Eyeing her satchel, he nodded towards it. "Looks like you came prepared, sort of."
If Danny were to open the satchel, she'd find a letter inside, among a few other things.
The letter read:
Danielle Haddock,
Now that you are part of Hiccup's family, I thought you should get a chance to see a different side of him than you know.
I afforded the Hiccup you know the same opportunity.
You will be here for one month, during which is the biggest turning point in Hiccup's life. In two weeks, he will face the Red Death.
You will see how the people of Berk treated him before, and after this event. You will also get a good glimpse of how he and Stoick got along.
You may choose to return to your time at any point, at which point you will find a small sailboat waiting for you at the docks. Once you enter it, you will wake back up where you had fallen asleep.
Once you leave, there is no returning. This opportunity will never be offered again.
Choose wisely.

Hiccup nodded. "Astrid did really well with your disguise."
"We could. I figured we'd bring a water bucket, and pour it over your hair until it all comes out. Shouldn't take more than three rinses, I think..."
"So," Hiccup set his fork down. "Is Altair still happy to no longer be red?"
Living on Berk was a dream. Lyra was learning fast from Gothi to be a healer and Altair was finally warming up to being around other dragons again! The two often flying in the evenings together. And Lyra exploring the forests for plants and herbs. She felt alive. Free.
It was only three months later when the dream would shatter. Lyra was working on a garden she’d placed by her hut. Her home! She smiled bright. Altair resting near by when she suddenly raised her head. Scenting the air before hissing. Her eyes sharp and teeth bared. The dragon all but pushing Lyra into the hut.
“Altair? What’s gotten into you? Wh-“ she covered her mouth to stop the panic that bubbled up. Thanking the stars the hut was big enough for both her and Altair to hide inside before they were seen.
Two large men, though smaller than most of those on Berk, approached the village. Dragon hide armor with metal spikes adorned them. One with a sword on his hip and the other with an axe. And hanging from both, iron shackles.
“We request a meeting with the chief of this place.” One of them called out.

Now moving up to tap on her arm, she fumbled over her words for a moment, staring at the ground before she managed to mutter out a response: "Yeah, uh, that...that was not what I anticipated for either, it just sort of...happened..." Her gaze flickered over to Hiccup before she continued, "At least our 'relationship' can be more.. believable for my dad..I guess.." She forced herself not to think of the kiss, earnestly wanting the heat on her face to disappear.
She can't believe she did that.
As though being held captive by the vivid emerald hues that were his irises, Freya ever so slightly tilted her head, allowing the sunlight to illuminate the color even more. She almost didn't hear what he had to say about her eyes, becoming engrossed with his. Once she did, however, she felt the corner of her lips tug upward, ignoring the warmth that tugged at her ears, "Looks like we're going to have to find a way to solve that problem, aren't we?"
Recovering from the sudden fall and struggle to breath properly, Freya lightly shook her head to gather herself together. She didn't want to make Hiccup think he was the one complicating things, she just didn't know how else to describe the fluttering in her chest and the flustered attitude he was starting to give her more often. She called it complicated because that's what it seemed like; something she wasn't familiar with.
She was about to voice out her apology for what she had said, but he spoke first, causing her to glance over at him while he stood. Her smile began to diminish at the mention of being invited to dinner...at Stoick's home. Springing up from her spot on the ground, she started to frantically wave her hands while she talked: "H-he does!? I..I, uh, okay...yeah, I-I'll make sure to..be there...on time, I just need to know when...and..and, everything will be fine--" She began to pace, talking to herself at that point, "It's just a dinner with the Chief of Berk...nothing to be nervous about.."
Groaning out in frustration at her anxiousness for the whole matter, Freya halted right in her steps, kicking a nearby stick in the process. "What if I say something stupid? What if I accidentally say our secret that the relationship isn't even real!?" She briefly brushed a hand through her hair, realizing that she hadn't yet fixed it.
Dragging her feet back to where she originally fell, she picked up the tie Ayla had made for her, quickly combing through her black tresses as worrisome thoughts continued to invade her mind. "Y'know, I'm pretty sure he has some knowledge of how I was...before. Some people think that's how I normally behave too, so what if he's the same way? Oh, geez.." She heaved a sigh, busying herself with interweaving some of her hair into a braid once more, "I feel just like I did when we told my dad about this whole thing.."
Pausing in the middle of her rambling, Freya carefully reached out one of her hands, giving the tie to Hiccup, "Can you hold that for one second?" Once it was free from her grasp, she went to tighten the plait that was now formed, keeping it in place as she extended out her hand for the tie again, "Thanks.." Securely entwining it around the braid, she resumed her endless jabbering: "I mean, what am I even supposed to say when I'm there? 'Yeah, I used to totally and utterly disrespect the your son, but surprise! We're now a couple!' How crazy does that sound!?"
Attempting to breath out all of her frustration, she remembered her previous intentions of apologizing to Hiccup for what she'd said earlier. Gathering up what courage she had left, her gaze landed on him while she spoke: "Anyways...off topic, but... just so you know, Hiccup, you're not complicating anything... That, uh, came out a little wrong..." She lightly tapped her arm, now avoiding eye contact as she watched Blaze tug on his newly found tree branch, the grin on his face still being evident.
Hesitantly glimpsing back at Hiccup, Freya noticed the sunlight hitting his auburn hair in a way that made the color more distinct, more vibrant. It was enthralling, to say the least. Shaking herself out of the short daze she was put in, she tapped her arm, nearly mumbling, "Shouldn't you be going to the Forge soon..? I'm sure Gobber is gonna need your help eventually.."
"That's...that's actually not quite what I meant...I mean, yes, that...kiss... really did surprise me, but... there's---" There's so much more... "Uhhh, right, yes, it uh, it just helped to... erase any suspicion, I guess..."
Hiccup inwardly chastised himself. If he kept on like this, he was going to give himself away, and then...and then she'd know. She'd know all about how he developed feelings for her... And he didn't know what the outcome would be.
Now she was looking into his eyes so intently...and he was staring into hers...they were stuck now, and while Hiccup knew why he was so captivated by her, he wasn't sure why she was staring back...giving him that look...
"Yeah," he agreed, "but how?" He grinned. "The crazy thing is...I don't know if I want to."
Back on his feet as well, he followed her. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, hey! There really is nothing to be nervous about! You were just so, so happy from winning--and you were laughing, let's, why don't we go back to that?" Feeling guilty, he tried not to think that he just ruined her happy moment.
When she stopped, he did, too, standing right in front of her, placing his hands on her upper arms. His eyes were soft, concerned, but his voice was reassuring. "You won't. I'll be there too, remember? You and I, surely the two of us can keep the other from saying anything... off-putting."
Noticing then that they were touching, his eyes widened slightly, letting go and crossing his arms awkwardly, before placing them on his hips.
Hiccup opened his mouth to answer, only to snap it shut again.
Taking the hair tie, he fidgeted with it for a few moments. "People can change. My dad knows that. So...even if he does think that, he'll learn very quickly how wrong he is. He...he did seem fairly joyful when I told him..."
Shrugged slightly, his expression softened. "Crazier things have happened, Freya. I don't think we have to worry about making conversation...my dad will probably invite Gobber too, and...well, you know he's a talker."
Tilting his head, he squinted his eyes slightly at her apology. "I...I'm not? Oh, that's good, then. But, if I'm not, then..." Are you? What makes it complicated? "Uh, I think it's only as complicated as we make it out to be."
Running a hand through his hair, he let out a sigh, looking over at Toothless.
The dragon was on all fours, excitedly playing tug of war, and his tail wiggled to and fro.
"The forge!" Gasping, he hurried towards Toothless. "Oh, I am so late! Toothless! We gotta go!"
The dragon became sad, dropping the log.
As Hiccup mounted the Night Fury, he called out to Freya. "Why don't you come along? It's a good way to hammer out any lagging frustration you may have!" He gave a lopsided grin, chuckling at his little 'joke'.

“No! Why the heck would I, a random person—“ Because that’s what it seemed like she was right now. “—Run into your village and, and snitch on you?! That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard! I don’t care what you do, just leave me out of it!”
She looked down at him, expression deadpanning. “Um, hello? I look like I’ve been through an entire freaking war? I also just, y’know, the obvious,” she stated, pointing between the two of them. “Point is, if anyone sees me, they’re gonna be suspicious.”
She crossed her arms over his chest. This little runt didn’t have a right to call her Danny.
At his name though, her eyes shot wide, and her mouth hung slightly agape. “You’re… Hiccup?! Hiccup Haddock, son of Stoick the Vast?!” Oh, she was dead, she was dead dead if she stepped foot in that village. If this was Hiccup— the Hiccup, and he was younger, that meant his dad was still alive, and if he found out who she was? Dead.
And even worse— this was Hiccup? Her brother Hiccup?! What was going on? Where was she? What on Earth was going on?!
She scoffed. “Yeah, whatever, be quick about it, ‘Kay?” she stated firmly, rubbing the back of her neck.
——
When Hiccup returned, Danny was trying to occupy herself by using her dagger and attempting to stab some fish that were in the small pond-lake thingy. She got one, but… she just gave it to Toothless.
Quickly standing up and sheathing her dagger, she jogged over to Hiccup, taking the hood from his hands and immediately securing it around her neck. “Thanks…” she muttered, going to sit back down.
Hiccup blinked, a little taken back by her words. She didn't care that he'd befriended a dragon?
"Oh. Well...thanks, yeah, yeah, consider yourself out of it, then."
As she gestured to herself, Hiccup only then noticed her various scars, some looking like burns, others were more like...dents. Arrow wounds, maybe?
Looking back up at her, he shrugged slightly. "I doubt anyone would really notice that. We're Vikings, after all. More than half my village has scars like yours, from the dragon raids." Pausing, he said, "Not necessarily...but hey, if you don't want to be seen, that's fine. Most of the adults are off on some quest to find the dragons nest, so I wouldn't be too concerned about them.
He winced, seeing her reaction to his name.
So she had heard of him...the village disappointment.
"Y-yeah, that's, that's me... just, just don't believe everything you've heard about me, alright?"
------------
Toothless happily gobbled up the fish.
Looking at Danny, he saw that she was empty handed.
Well, that was no good.
The dragon regurgitated half the fish she'd given him, spitting it out by her side.
He nodded towards her, gesturing for her to eat it.
Hiccup stayed few feet away from Danielle, still finding her to be intimidating.
"So...Uh...where...where are you from?"
He was just trying to make conversation, though he was curious as to how she showed up here, seemingly out of the blue.

Melodía perks up a bit. “You would?” She beams, gently caressing his face. “Thank you. That… would definitely mean a lot to me.”
Annie nods, a warm smile on her face. “I definitely will.” The mer then swims off, waving to them before disappearing into the reef.
****
The princess takes the oyster gratefully, eating the contents of it hungrily.
“Yeah?” She chuckles. “I think it’s one of my favorites too. It’s just… peaceful. Helps me slow down a bit. And uh- sorry for dragging you all over the place. I just… get really excited. I may have gone a bit overboard…” the mermaid says sheepishly, running a hand through her hair.
Just then, one of the jellyfish from above swims down to them. It lands on Hiccup’s head, ruffling his hair before going to Melodía and doing the same. “Fredrick!” The girl exclaims, taking the jellyfish in her hands and giving it a little kiss.
Shaking his head with a grin, he responded, "Hey, don't apologize. I was more than happy to go with you, to see everything you wanted to show me. The world down here...it's amazing. I never knew it could be so colorful, vibrant, even!"
He opened up another oyster, discreetly spitting out a pearl, when a jellyfish was suddenly in his hair.
"Huh? Oh! Frederick, it's you! Hey there, little guy!"
Grinning at the jellyfish, he moved closer to Melodía. "See? We told you we'd come back!"

Hiccup and Astrid exchanged an amused look before looking at Lyra.
Hiccup was trying to suppress a grin, Astrid was full on chuckling.
"It's alright," the Chief reassured her. "Just means you feel at ease here. It's a good thing."
At her question, they both nodded.
"I probably slept longer than Hiccup," Astrid stated, because he likes to be up with the sun."
"I don't plan for it, it just happens, Astrid."
The couple laughed, and Astrid turned back to Lyra. "After breakfast, we'll get your hair back to normal. It might take a few rinses, but you'll be back to red in no time."

She ran. Ran as fast as she could and as far as she could, trying to get away, because this Toothless didn’t seem to be trained yet, and so all the talk about Night Fury’s being ‘the offspring of lightening and death itself’ could be true right now.
‘Stop?’ Why… Oh Gods, nonono, he was chasing her down. She was dead, her face was going to get literally blown off by a plasma blast.
She turned her head around to try and see how far away the dragon was, but he apparently wasn’t far at all, and the moment she locked eyes with him, he had her pinned down.
Danny hit her head on the dirt roughly, causing her to wince in pain. She tried to reach for her dagger, but it was gone, having slipped out once she fell.
Her eyes were wide with fear, and they were watering over as well. She couldn’t breathe. She was being pinned down by a dragon a hundred times her size, and she couldn’t fight back.
“Get off me!” the teen yelled, digging her nails into Toothless’ paws, which didn’t do much at all.
At Hiccups words, her eyes darted to his, expression becoming one of disbelief. “Are, are you crazy?! I wasn’t even going to go near the village! And this?!” she continued yelling, gesturing to Toothless on top of her. “This is not making me like you! Now— get this thing off me!” Because this wasn’t the Toothless she knew. Right now, this was an untamed dragon that was hurting her— Gods, her shoulders really hurt right now.
Once the dragon was off of her, Danny sat up, rubbing her shoulders, which were obviously sore, along with her head.
She grabbed her dagger as well, sheathing it back up with confidence as she glared at the dragon. “I keep this, because you, came after me, first. I have no reason to trust you, got it?”
“Oh hell no,” she stated, slapping his hand away and getting herself up to her feet. “Do not touch me. And I have every reason to tell about this.” Tell who, exactly? She didn’t know, she didn’t even one hundred percent know what was going on right now.
Hastily wiping her eyes, she glared at the boy, who was a lot shorter than her. Was she skinny? Yes, because of everything that happened to her with Grimmel, she was still gaining that weight back. But was she short? Not anymore. Perks of having a 6’10 war mongering father she guessed.
Still breathing heavily, she shook her head, looking at her scraped up hands and wincing. Whatever. “No crap, do I look like I’m from around here? No, I don’t.” She was currently this biggest oddball here, including— oh no, nonono, her scar, ‘branding’ or whatever they called it. Grimmel had chopped her hair, that stupid mark would be visible the second she turned around. “I’m Danielle Ha—“ Not here she wasn’t. “Just Danielle, got it? Now, who are you?”
She bit her lip in thought, almost like she was going to regret this. “I need a favor.” She finally said, her voice leaving no room for argument. “Get me a hood— and don’t say no. After all, Toothless over here just knocked me to the ground, so you want forgiveness or whatever? Do this for me.”
(AHHH I KNOW I’M SO EXCITED)
Toothless's eyes widened, tilting his head at the way she spoke to him. She seemed... different than the other vikings he'd come across, and different from Hiccup as well.
"Wait, you...you weren't?" Vikings befriending dragons was unheard of. Why wouldn't she have told?
Sniffing at her, he realized she had a faint scent that matched Hiccup's...as if they spent a lot of time together.
Backing off, Toothless was now acting much more tame.
"Uh, well, to be fair, even I don't look like I'm from around here..."
She was... intimidating. Even more so than Astrid. Hiccup took a small step back as she looked over him, his green eyes wide as he looked up at her.
"O-okay, Danielle." Her not knowing who he was was actually a great thing. Forgoing his last name as well, he answered, "I'm Hiccup. Just Hiccup. And this," he gestured to the dragon. "this is Toothless."
Giving a small nod, he said, "A hood. Okay, I can, I can do that. Just uh, just--- stay here, I'll get you one, and be back as soon as I can."
Turning away, he let out a shaky breath.
Who was this girl? Would she end up being an ally, a friend, even? Or... would she end up being like all the others?
------------
An hour later, he returned, a hooded cloak in hand.
"Hey, I uh, I got the hood you wanted..."

Valka held the girl as she wept, stroking her hair attempting to soothe her.
"It seems she was a small child when these dragons took her in..." Valka mused.
Toothless tilted his head, watching as the dragons tried to cheer their sister up. He had encountered a similar issue with Hiccup a few years ago, but Hiccup had other humans around to help, so Toothless just had to be there for him.
Leaving Hiccup's side, the dragon approached Seabreak, warbling reassuringly. You tried your best, sometimes there's nothing we can do when it comes to humans, he told him.
Hiccup stayed in place, feeling a little lost as to what to do.
Dragons, he knew well, he knew how to comfort them. People? Not quite so much. It depends on who needs it.
A woman, who was raised by dragons? That was completely out of his area of expertise.
The Light Furies seemed to be distressed that they couldn't help... maybe he could help them?
But first, he needed to establish trust, that he wasn't going to harm them.
Hiccup slowly approached Streak, his hand extended out, pausing just close enough that Streak could reach.
Turning his face away, he kept his hand outstretched, waiting to see if the dragon would reciprocate.
Toothless tilted his head, and Hiccup chuckled lightly as the dragons ran to the water.
"Looks like they like it here, don't you think?"
Cloudjumper regarded them with a low rumble, tilting his head curiously.
He remembered what it was like when he met Toothless, the energetic Night Fury popping to and fro. These dragons were quite similar, it seemed.
Hiccup's eyes widened as the Light Furies seemed drawn to his mom, the five of them communicating fairly well, from what he gathered.
The most intriguing part, though, was the way the woman's eyes followed Valka, and there was a longing in them that Hiccup recognized.
Valka was glad that she was able to get through and understand them mostly. She translated to Hiccup what she'd learned before edging closer.
Seeing the girls eyes well up, Valka paused, unsure of what she did wrong, what changed.
But then, the girl cried out, and Valka placed a hand over her heart, her eyes full of sorrow.
Hiccup and Toothless exchanged a look, though they were concerned as well...
Valka moved forward, asking in the way of dragon if the furies would allow her to embrace the girl, to see if that would soothe her.

Danny was so, so confused, but she nodded slowly and let herself be guided to the couch, sitting down and looking at Hiccup expectantly.
What. The. Heck.
“W-what?!” Oh crap, if this was true— which it probably was, Hiccup was the furthest thing from a liar… she winced at the thought.
Taking a deep breath, because freaking out did not seem like the best thing to do right now, she decided to just… make a joke of it. After all, what else could she do?
Chuckling dryly, she said, “Well, s***… Nope, do not remember an ounce of that, but uh, you must’ve had quite the month; I know for a fact I was probably being a difficult little brat, so, sorry about that.” Pausing for a moment, she continued, “Did I like… say anything? I dunno, anything that you would find like, concerning?” She never really told Hiccup anything specific that happened to her on that boat, and she didn’t think she wanted him to know. She knew he’d still see her as his sister, that was never going to change, but, he could still see her differently. And if her seven year old self actually truly trusted Hiccup? Gods, she just hoped that little nuisance didn’t say too much.
Stretching her arms up above her head, she let out a yawn. “I’m still tired like you wouldn’t believe, so I’m just gonna go crash back in that room, ‘Kay? I can uh, I’ll move the bed back too, don’t worry.”
———
After a few hours, the teen stirred away, shifting around the— hold up, this was not the bed.
She mumbled in her sleep, tossing and turning some more.
…Ugh, was something poking at her?
Deciding to let herself wake up, she slowly opened her eyes, immediately being blinded by a sudden streak of sunlight hitting her right in the eyes.
Well, this definitely wasn’t Hiccup’s hut, that’s for sure. Gods, she could go for a few more hours of sleep…
…
This wasn’t Hiccup’s hut.
Immediately springing up, her eyes shot wide, her breaths instantly becoming heavy and labored.
The forest? On Berk? What on Earth was she doing here?
Without a second thought, she pat herself down, scanning for any new injuries, of which there were none. She also… had her satchel with her? That was not there when she went to sleep.
Danny did what her brother would tell her to do whenever she started freaking out; she just needed to breathe.
In, out… In, out…
For some reason she had this ghost feeling of a hand running up and down her back, and it helped. Match ‘up, down’ with ‘in, out,’ and she was good to go in only a few minutes.
She was fine, because she was on Berk.
Looking around for something, or someone to give her answers as to what was going on, her eyes landed to a small opening that led to the cove, and she let her legs carry herself towards it, making sure to be as stealthy as possible, just in case something was wrong.
Squeezing her way through said opening, an immediate feeling of relief washed over her as her eyes landed on Toothless.
Whew.
So that meant Hiccup had to be nearby, because Luna didn’t stray too far away from the nest with the hatchlings, not yet at least.
Eyeing the situation closely, Danny realized that Toothless’ tail looked… different. The red prosthetic with Berks symbol painted on it was completely missing…
She let out a small gasp of surprise and awe. Another Night Fury?!
But then, her eyes immediately caught onto some scraggily looking toothpick, that was… moving? And had really ugly hair, jeez louise.
Wait. Waitwaitwaitwaitwait— something was coming up from the back of her mind. She’d seen this little dude before, but where?
‘C’mon Danny, think…’
Oh! In the Great Hall! There was a painting on a shield! It was the former Chief of Berk; Stoick the Vast with his son; Hiccup! Wait- Hiccup?!
The shock of the realization totally made her miss the walking fishbone pressing his palm into the Night Fury’s snout, and she ended up losing her footing and sliding down the stone cliff, into the cove…
She cursed under her breath, wiping her hands— which now had a few bloody scrapes on them— onto her tunic before looking up and meeting the other teen’s eyes.
“Heh… hi? Wow, this is uh, this whole… thing,” she said, gesturing to the dragon and [not really] Viking, “Is beautiful, absolutely heartwarming, but I, I should get going. Keep on doing what you’re doing! I’ll just…” Her nearest exit was on the other side of the cove, where some sort of pathway opened up.
“…Go— okay, bye!”
‘What the hell was going on?!’
The girl immediately made a break for it, sprinting as fast as she could for the exit. Because right now, if what she thought was happening actually was happening? She was an outsider who’d randomly showed up on Berk, and she needed to get away from any and all people and figure out what was going on.
Hiccup stared in amazement at the dragon before him.
This...this was the unholy offspring of lightning and death, and yet...
They had just trusted each other, not to hurt the other, completely, for the first time.
A sudden sound spooked the both of them, pulling them out of... whatever had just happened.
There was a girl, probably around his age, that he didn't recognize staring back at him and Toothless.
He was in shock, stunned still as she stammered and excused herself.
Once her back was turned, it hit him: she was going to tell the others, wasn't she?
"Oh...oh no, oh no..." His life was over. "Word, word will get out, and we--" he turned to Toothless, but the dragon was already in pursuit.
"Oh, Thor! Wait! Toothless, stop!"
The dragon caught up to the girl, pinning her down, his eyes narrowed as he determined if she was a threat or not.
"Toothless!! No!" Tripping on a tree root, he hurried back to his feet, breathing heavy.
Arms outstretched, he pleaded with the dragon. "No, we need her to like us. If the others, if my father found out---we'd have to run, and you can't fly, bud..." Not yet, at least.
The dragon tilted his head, but backed off, snorting in the girl's face. Now sitting on his hind legs, he kept an eye on her.
Hiccup fiddled with his fingers before offering her a hand up. "I--Sorry, about that, he's just, wary of people...please, don't tell anyone about this?"
"Wait, who are you, anyways? You're...you're not from here...I'd recognize you if you were, I think..."
