the first of my hazbin and helluva redesigns starting with my favorite character, NIFFTY!!!

pre-death story and inspirations below the cut!

before she died, niffty was a housewife, residing in the fukuoka prefecture in japan. she was married to a man for a little over 4 years. their lives were quiet, yet happy. almost. niffty had her fair share of misfortunes; she was diagnosed with OCD and had constant instrusive thoughts of aggression/violence, either towards herself or others. though her and her husband had a stable enough income, she refused treatment, afraid of the cost and it interfering with her fixed schedule. on top of her diagnosis, she also was infertile and could not have children. this saddened her, though she convinced herself it was for the best due to the fact she thought her condition would be detrimental to any kid she might have. her husband didn't like this however. he desired kids, and niffty's infertility became a source of growing resentment. her husband started to cheat on her with another woman. what began as a secret affair eventually turned into a second life- one niffty was never meant to discover. but she did. and when she did, her intrusive thoughts became far more than fleeting visions. they became consuming, vivid fantasies she could no longer suppress. the images of inflicting pain- the ones she had spent YEARS trying to silence- now felt like a promise of justice. one evening, she made their usual tea, just like she had countless times before. but this time, she stirred drain cleaner into both cups. the stench was foul. she sat across from him at the table, her hands trembling slightly as she lifted the cup to her lips. he drank without suspicion, despite the disgusting, rotten odor coming from his cup. for a brief moment, they sat in silence, just like they always did. then, the coughing started. the retching. his throat burned, his voice strained with confusion and pain. niffty watched him struggle, her eyes dull and distant. she didn’t move to help. she only stared, feeling the same searing pain clawing at her own throat. by the time anyone found them, they were lying cold on the kitchen floor. their tea cups were shattered nearby, the sharp scent of chemicals still lingering in the air. to everyone else, it seemed like a tragic accident or a suicide pact. but only niffty, now down in hell's depths, knew the truth. she made sure they left this world together, bound by the same pain that had quietly torn them apart.

niffty's design has bothered me for many reasons, the main being that: 1. she looks like a child 2. she barely looks like a bug, what her motifs are supposed to be. 3. her hair is not 50's at ALL, which is when she supposedly died (which seems to be a major problem with vivzie's designs, the sinners do not match the era they died in.)

to combat these problems, i have her a more mature and period accurate hairstyle, as well as some lipstick! her pilot design had colored lips so i always thought of it as red lips. her original hairstyle looked more like some sort of shaggy bob, while female style's in the 50's were much more curly/wavy and well-kempt. i'm going with a 7 deadly sins motif for each of the main characters. of the sins, niffty represents ENVY.

she is now based off an asian lady beetle, which are commonly mistaken for ladybugs. lady beetles have a foul smelling odor, which i'm giving niffty as a nod/punishment to the smell of the drain cleaner that killed her and her husband. they're also known to bite as a defense mechanism. along with her buglike limbs and her spotted dress, her headband is supposed to mimic bug antenna.

as nods to her heritage, her teeth are similar to an oni (a japanese demon), and the top of her dress is crossed over like a kimono. instead of the normal correct way to wear a kimono where it is folded left over right, it is right over left, which is for dressing the dead.

So i see this tweet

And it dawned on me, this made sense, this is the answer why character design inside The Hellaverse feels weirdly not fitting, out of place if you will.

OC stands for Original characters its a character you made yourself.

Every character is an oc but not all oc meant to be a character, at least narratively.

Viv wants to tell a story about hell, so naturally she will make characters that befit this title and their lore.

But she didn't.

A character design has to tell a story, especially since there is a narrative that shaped them.

I didn't say that she can't make a good character design, i actually loved a few consistent design details such as the imps horn, the motif of envy residents being underwater creatures and many more.

But a lot of other characters especially the main characters have this problem

Take Beelzebub as an example, you will never guess shes the sin of gluttony because her character design didn't fit that at all.

Or Lucifer's design didn't scream "king of hell" for me.

Naturally with a premise as interesting and ambiguous as the concept of hell itself there are many rooms for unique character design that tell their respective story.

So, Heres a few tips to make your ocs feel like characters

Establish design details that will be consistent with each character. maybe even their faction, their ring, their backstory. But do not overdesign them to the point of clutter.

Make combination colours! Think about complementary colors that will look good on a character.

Create details that every character has uniquely on themselves!

And make sure the character stands out from the background! make a contrast between scenes, maybe even wrap the background according to the characters emotions

And most importantly, create backstory, motivations, and flaws for your character to make them compelling, create relationship charts to keep track of how they interact!

Remember to have fun when creating a character, ocs whatever, this is just my thoughts

Pretty sure, that, even with what Blitz(o) has said and all, he'd NEVER be like that, and would be creeped out - like, I know Blitz(o) made an inappropriate comment once, but I just thought that he thought Octavia wasn't a minor (and also, he hadn't met her at that point and all) -

That being said, dude needs to stop self-projecting onto the character he's voice-acting, and using his role as an excuse to say stuff, that wouldn't even be okay for Blitz(o) to say, if he'd even say it at all - he acts all high and mighty, but Blitz(o) actually respects his daughter, so he'd probably respect Octavia too, especially since he's so attached to Stolass - Brandon is just acting inappropriate, and using a character who probably wouldn't even do that exact same thing, as an excuse, and also acting all high and mighty about it.

Viv seems to want to be both edgy and progressive, but it doesn't work that way. Like, ya gotta commit to one or the other.

You can't just make SA jokes then turn around and have episodes about how wrong SA is.

Like if you're so afraid of the backlash, then either get a sensitivity reader or stop being pretentious acting like you're this beacon of lgbt rep when your writing and how you talk about trans men in private shows the exact opposite.

There's no such thing as a "progressive edgelord". Stop acting like there is, Vivienne.

Blitz(o) is also treated like shit for not just shitty things he's done and bad communication, but for not knowing when someone loves him back who hasn't outright explicitly communicated it, AND for not fecking reciprocating, even when he "should" - and Stolass is like "I did SO much for you! I showed this and that sign! I gave you all of this! I took you out for dinner for a change!" Or whatever, but fun fact, some people prefer clear communication, and NO people owe anyone ANY form of attraction - I'm not treating my own Hellaverse critic squish like garbage, just because they don't think I have a squish on them, and ALSO don't reciprocate, and probably don't care anymore, so why should OTHERS?! Like, yeah, extreme pain, but you can't FORCE feelings or destiny, except if you did, it would be fake (and FEEL forced, like the Stolitz stuff)! Blitz(o) is shitty and all, hold him accountable, but besides that, let him work through his own stuff, communicate with him clearly, and STOP ACTING LIKE HE OWES YOU DICK AND ATTRACTION, STOLASS AND EVERYONE ELSE WHOM IT MAY CONCERN!

Oh, and same goes for me. I don't owe anything sexual, nor attraction. My Hellaverse squish owes nothing either, no one owes that kind of shit to anyone.

It's funny how Stolas is so petty about Blitz not wanting a relationship with him(which is completly understandable with all the hell that Stolas put him trough), but i can't shake the feeling that a massive part of the fandom just cant fantom the idea that Blitz just don't want a Relationship of any sort.

Blitz has showed again and again and AGAIN that he's INCAPABLE of being in a Romantic relationship (THE WHOLE PARTY WERE HIS EXES), so, You would think that with all that experiences, Blitz would know he just dosen't want a Relationship like that. AND HE DOES, rejecting Stolas(His ABUSER) out of FREE WILL and still people want him to be in one??? Knowing the damage this would make to Blitz AND potential Partner?(No, no Stolas, he is not a partner, he's Just a jerk).

Blitz has EVERY RIGHT to NOT want to be in a Romantic relationship just bc it makes HIM happy, he dosen't OWE ANYONE(MUCH LESS STOLAS) A RELATIONSHIP.

It's just...it's hard to have ONE SINGLE CHARACTER THAT IS SINGLE FOR FREE WILL AND IS HAPPY ABOUT IT WITHOUT FORCE A RELATIONSHIP?

Hazbin Hotel & Helluva Boss Rewrite Ideas #01

I truly believe that both shows have a lot of untapped potential that we'll unfortunately never get to see thanks to Viv refusing to take criticism and the fact that her writers are all yes men. However, that doesn't mean I can't give out rewrite ideas like they're candy to those who wish to tap into either show's said potential. With that being said, here are some rewrite ideas that you could use for Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss! ______ #01.) Have Mrs. Mayberry become one of the residents of the Hazbin Hotel. I promise you, this one writes itself. #02.) Have Glitz & Glam be Fizz's rival co-workers to parallel his time in the circus when he worked with the Buckzo twins who acted more like a family to him. #03.) Write some new workers for the Hazbin Hotel since they're still severely understaffed. You could make these new employees a Hellborn, a Sinner, an Overlord, or Goetia royalty if you wanted too. The possibilities for this one are endless! #04.) Let Heaven contrast with Hell based on how they operate. For example, in my rewrite for the Hellaverse, Heaven doesn't use currency at all. It quite literally doesn't exist up there. Instead, they use the Bartering System as they view it to be the most fair exchange of goods and services. #05.) Have there be a character who doesn't belong in Hell but got sent there anyway for whatever reason. I'd recommend using Valoris (my take on renaming Vaggie) if you don't mind keeping her as a fallen angel or using her original Sinner backstory however I feel like Amélie (I renamed Emily solely because her name is so common. It's not bad but you can tell that there was barely any thought put into it either.) could work just as well since she'd be a fallen Seraph. #06.) Make Lucifer and Stolas evil as they were originally intended to be before Viv scrapped the idea in favor of something worse. Stolitz is a toxic ship no matter how much damage control and retconning Helluva Boss tries to do and when initially asked about how Lucifer would act later in the series on an old livestream, Viv originally wanted to have his character be on par with that of Willy Wonka so do with that information what you will. #07.) Allow for Charlie's, "Anyone can be redeemed," mentality to constantly be challenged by those around her. Don't be afraid to have her be in the wrong because we all know that not everyone can be redeemed. Some people (Valentino) truly aren't deserving of it and others won't be accepting to change. You can lead a horse to water all you want but the horse has to decide to drink it. #08.) Create a proper foil ship for Fallen Star (I hate using the ship name Chaggie) cause if even Stolitz can have one in the form of Fizzmodeus then Fallen Star should have one too. Most people opt to use Emilute but I'm a damn GuitarSpear shipper so I opted for a crossover ship that has Emily and another character from Helluva Boss instead. Listen, if a rare pair and joke ship like CherriSnake can become canon over a ship like Sir Pentious x Rosie that actually makes sense when you consider they're from similar time periods, then a crossover ship being in my AU rewrite is the least of my problems.

I’m gonna say it, Stolas doesn’t love Blitzø, he’s obsessed with him. He enjoys the fantasy of a royal having a secret affair with a commoner, and he feels entitled to engage in this fantasy as and when he pleases without consequences. He knows that he makes Blitzø uncomfortable, and that he doesn’t really want to sleep with him, but he feels entitled to his body and his company anyway. And when he does the bare minimum and gives Blitzø a way out of their fucked up deal, he immediately feels entitled to Blitzø’s love. When his fantasy of being swept away by his ‘true commoner love’ is shattered by the reality that Blitzø doesn’t love him, he has the nerve to cry and play the victim, and act like Blitzø is a bad person for not loving him when all he has ever done is fetishise him for his race and sexually abuse him. Stolas thinks that he deserves Blitzø when he has done nothing to deserve him.

Giving her a friendly colour palette that's very spring like to represent her approachableness. Purple accents to represent her pride. Red hair like the "biblical" Lucifer. Pale skin, orangish pink cheeks to branch the pink and orange colours.

Goat features, coz "sacrificial lamb", she's the anti-christ, so it would make sense for her to have similarities to Jesus ig.... Added back her spiked hair ties that resemble a thorned crown, as well as adding tiny spikes to look like a crown. Rounded her shapes, a lot of heart shapes to show she has a big heart. Got rid of her undershirt sticking out, that sometimes is confused for a skirt in the animation. Cute lil nose! Moved the buttons down to her suit coat.

This clip was eye-opening to me because it proved that Viv and Adam absolutely can write a scene in an adult cartoon (Viv did Zoophobia so I know she can do family-friendly stuff though Zoophobia wasn't that funny) with good jokes (not great but I can at least understand why some would laugh) without relying on swearing or sex jokes as punchlines, setups or even undertones. It just makes the first season's lazy humor look even worse cause apparently they do know how to do it right.

Like, this isn't amazing comedy or anything, but hell, at least I can see they're actually trying here. Decent comedy is all I'm asking from this universe.
