JK Rowling’s books are a building. And she stopped after creating shitty, waterlogged, deeply structurally unsound blueprints and half the scaffolding. Then left it to the elements (aka her Twitter), damaging it nearly beyond repair.

And the fandom looked at this, and put on hard hats. And they tore down that scaffolding, and took those blueprints and changed it into something that would work, and they built the most beautiful building you’ve ever seen.

The building JK Rowling designed was deeply flawed, it would never pass inspection, it would collapse under its own weight and lack of structural integrity within seconds of being built. The aesthetic design was tragic and hideous and offensive. But the fans looked at all of that, and said to themselves, “this building is fucked up, it will never be good if left like this, and everything about it is terrible and makes zero sense. But goddamnit, I have trauma and I can fix it because it must be done and no one else will.”

JK Rowling may have designed that original building. She may have had the initial idea. She may have built that unfinished scaffolding. She may have drawn those blueprints.

But this building is no longer JK Rowling’s.

People lie all the time. Especially on the internet. Just because they have an attractive "all my fandoms and identities" bio does not mean it's true and does not mean it's safe.

Especially for the younger generation, maintain skepticism. We have seen over and over that lies and manipulation are easiest online, where bad people can use things like "I am not giving you my photo for MY safety, but I need you to give me yours for my safety" as a way to manipulate vulnerable populations. Sometimes people with the most up to date pop culture bios are lying to pull people who like those things in with goals that could masquerade as friendship but be something far worse.

Just because someone has a DNI or bio that matches yours does not mean they are safe. It doesn't even mean they're telling the truth.

ben solo definitely had something that resembled the padawan braid , albeit much shorter . . . not that he , nor anyone else at the academy necessarily knew its significance. one of his fellow padawans braided it for him, and it just felt right . so he wore it all the way until the day he destroyed the jedi temple. for DRAMATIC FLAIR , one of the last things he did before he whisked off to find the knights of ren was use his lightsaber to cut the braid out of his hair and left it in the fiery ruins.

So my brother was telling me earlier about how his teacher, who owns a few fast food places besides teaching, was giving his students “useless financial advice, for people who don’t own a business.” According to my brother.

There advice was roughly: “register your car as a business car than use it for personal purposes so the cost of fuel you use is tax deductible”

My response to my brother telling me this was: “I’m pretty sure you’re teacher is committing tax fraud.”

My brother agrees with me.

man I just read about the Helen Keller Plagiarism Incident

(long story short, 11 year old Helen wrote a short story as a birthday gift to a beloved mentor at Perkins School for the Blind, he published it, turns out it was very similar to a previously published story, they put poor Helen on blast for it and she lost her mentor's friendship and had to leave Perkins)

and I cannot believe the nerve. A little eleven year old girl writes a story to a trusted adult, HE makes the decision to publish it, and the child and Annie Sullivan are questioned and punished??? Disgraceful.

It's apparently also the reason Helen Keller never tried writing fiction again which is a damn shame. Not only is it bad to crush any child's fledgling creativity, but she also had such a unique perspective on the world. I think her contributions would have been very valuable and engrossing.
