Tinnitus is a medical term that refers to a noise generated inside the head rather than in the environment. It is a common problem that affects millions of people around the world. Statistics say that 36 million people suffer from tinnitus in the United States, so it can be considered a fairly common condition. Other studies conducted in different countries also show that the prevalence of tinnitus ranges from 5% to 15% of the adult population.
Tinnitus can originate from various places in the body, including the ear or the brain itself, and along the path between the ear and the brain. The noise can be of different types, such as a whistle, a buzz, a hiss, or a roar. It can be constant or intermittent, and can vary in intensity and frequency.
There are two main types of tinnitus: non-pulsatile (subjective) and pulsatile (objective). Non-pulsatile tinnitus is caused by abnormal activity in the auditory cortex of the brain responsible for sound processing. It is often the result of hearing loss, exposure to loud noises, or ear related disorders. Pulsatile tinnitus is vascular in nature and involves noise from the blood vessels near the ear. It is often caused by abnormal blood vessels or abnormal vasculature problems, such as tumors.
For most people, tinnitus is temporary and goes away quickly. But for some people, tinnitus is chronic and can significantly affect quality of life. Tinnitus can affect people's lives in many ways, depending on the intensity, frequency and type of noise they hear. Some possible consequences of tinnitus in people's lives are: Physical and mental health problems, such as fatigue, stress, changes in sleep and concentration, memory problems, depression, anxiety, or irritability. Hearing problems, such as difficulty hearing real sounds, understanding speech, or locating the source of sounds. Communication problems, such as difficulty holding a conversation, participating in social or professional activities, or isolating yourself from others. Emotional well-being problems, such as low self-esteem, frustration, anger or hopelessness.
To prevent tinnitus, it is important to avoid or reduce the factors that can cause or aggravate the problem. Some prevention measures you can take are: Limit exposure to loud noises, which can damage the hearing cells in the inner ear. If you can't get away from loud sounds, use appropriate hearing protection, such as earplugs or earmuffs. Lower the volume of electronic devices such as television, radio, or headphones, and avoid prolonged use of these devices. Let your ear rest from time to time. Have your ears cleaned regularly by a professional to prevent the accumulation of substances that can clog the external auditory canal. Properly treat ear infections, which can cause inflammation and irritation in the auditory system. Avoid excessive intake of medications, alcohol, and caffeine, which can have ototoxic effects or alter blood circulation in the ear. Avoid smoking, which can impair vascular health and increase the risk of tinnitus. Controlling cardiovascular diseases, such as hypertension or atherosclerosis, which can affect blood flow in the ear and cause pulsatile tinnitus. Take care of mental health by avoiding stress and seeking psychological support if necessary. Stress can make tinnitus worse and cause anxiety, depression, or irritability.

Seeing a lot of hopeless and no actual coping mechanisms in the notes, have some semi-silly-but-actually-serious advice from a much younger me:
Tumblr media
More serious ramblings in the tags
Chronic suicidal ideation is your brain’s response to having no other coping skills. Your brain is trying to keep you safe with the comfort of knowing you can just opt out of [your problems] life at any point. Equipping yourself with better coping skills, better options, is the only way to combat this defense mechanism.

i feel like a lot of the 'i hate kids' crowd would be more tolerant if they understood that due to a kid's limited experience of the world that 4 hour flight might just be the longest they've ever had to sit still for or that trapped finger might literally be the most pain they've ever felt in their short life or they might not have ever seen a person with pink hair ever so of course they want to touch it or nobody's told them yet that they can't run around the museum and they only just learned cheetahs are the fastest animals so of course they want to put that to the test. how were they supposed to know etc etc.

Being a “Fun Fact !” kind of autistic is all fun and games until you get halfway through sharing an interesting tidbit and realize that it probably wasn’t appropriate to share in polite company and now you have to deal with the consequences :(

✮ content. pro-hero!bakugo x pro-hero fem!reader. late 20 somethings + married w/ a toddler. family fluff while he’s away on a mission. slightly suggestive (aka Katsuki’s down bad for his wife). ;)
Tumblr media
“Momma!” Your daughter shouts from the living room, the little pitter patters of her feet echoing down the hall as she sprints toward you with glee. “Phone’s ringing, pick it up, please!”
Her small hands shove the phone against your thigh, bouncing up and down in place with excitement. You tuck the folded towel in your arms into the closet and bend down to her level. When you take the phone from her, your husband’s name —💥Katsuki 👑💕— is displayed across the screen, accompanied by a photo of the three of you on your last beach trip. Clicking the “Accept” button, the visual of Katsuki in his hero costume appears, his attention focused on removing his gloves while waiting for you to answer.
“Hey handsome,” you greet, heart swelling when you catch him smirk at the compliment. “Someone’s been waiting for you to call.”
“An’ where’s my little girl at?”
Your daughter hops into view, jumping up and down with her hands waving frantically.
“Hi Daddy!” She giggles, dancing back and forth on her tip toes. “Did ya beat up the bad guys today?”
Katsuki laughs heartily, finally sitting on the bed in his hotel room. “Sure did. I’m keepin’ you and Momma safe. How’s school goin’?”
“S’good! I got a gold star today for my drawing.”
“Yeah? Proud of you, sweetheart. Can’t wait for ya to show me when I come home.”
The time on your phone reads 7:30PM, and like clockwork, your daughter begins to stretch, yawning the same way Katsuki does when he’s exhausted after a long shift.
“Why don’t you get ready for bed, sweetie?” You suggest while rubbing her back. “I know you’re tired.”
“Okaaay,” she pouts, trying to fight off her sudden sleepiness. “G’night Daddy. I miss you!”
“Only two more days. Love an’ miss you, Princess. Sweet dreams.”
With a wave and a smile, she trots off toward her bedroom to change into her PJs, leaving you with a few minutes to talk with Katsuki before tucking her into bed. You walk back into your joint bedroom, leaving the door cracked as you lay on the bed. Katsuki does the same, shifting the camera to follow his movements as he stretches out across the sheets.
“Goddamn, I miss you somethin’ fierce,” he admits, sighing into his forearm as it crosses his face to hide the soft dusting of pink on his cheeks. “You put a spell on me or some shit?”
“Not this time,” you chuckle, feet swaying in the air behind you like a giddy schoolgirl. “I miss you, too. How was your day?”
“S’alright, nothin’ crazy. Can’t wait’ta be back home, sleepin’ alone sucks.”
“Yeah, the bed is cold without you.”
There’s a short lull in the conversation before it shifts into something more sensually charged. Katsuki tends to get clingier the longer he’s stationed away from home — all the telltale signs of it are reflecting in his eyes through the camera, sparkling under the dim moonlight from his hotel room window.
“Good thing I know how to keep ya warm,” he purrs with a wink, the mischievous grin stretched over his lips telling you how he’s truly feeling. “S’how you got knocked up the first time.”
There it is, that familiar warmth flooding into your belly and heat spreading from your ears to your toes.
“Kaaats!” you whine, shyly tucking your head into your chest. Shut up.”
“Don’t get shy on me now, Peaches,” he teases, laughing quietly at your bashfulness. “S’cute how easy ya are to rile up.”
You wave him off and roll your eyes lovingly. “I should go put her to bed. Are you gonna be up in an hour?”
His brow furrows curiously. “Prob’ly. Why?”
“Gives me time to get her settled, put away the laundry and finish the dishes. Up for a little late night date?”
Oh, Katsuki knows exactly what that means. Why was the thought of watching you doing chores around the house and taking care of your daughter making him suddenly break out in a sweat?
“Earth to Katsuki?” You call again and recollect his attention. “If you’re too tired—”
“Never too tired for you, baby. Go do what ya gotta do, I’ll be waitin’.”
“Okay, I love you!” You sweetly sing as you roll off the bed. “Get comfy, bye babe.”
“Love you too, Peach. See ya.”
The “End Call” screen flashes briefly in front of Katsuki’s eyes, the darkness of the hotel room returning once the screen dims into nothingness. He mumbles a breathless ‘fuck’ into the air before jumping off the bed to stomp toward the bathroom.
Only you can leave him hanging by a thread on simple promises, even when he’s miles away. And damn, did he love it.

Basically, my philosophy around disability fakers is: I would rather a thousand people fake a disability than have one disabled person suffer without care, aids, compassion, or any help.

I am riddled with ailments, but I stay silly!
#ask#non mdzs#My health journey has been: Hernia -> acid reflux -> Vocal pain due to aforementioned reflux -> chest infection.#I'm terrified to know what's about to hit me next. Please let it be something kind. PLEASE.#The consequence of living with linguists is that you'll wake up with a wacked up voice -#suddenly you're sitting you down in front of a program called something like Praat having your shimmer and jitter levels calibrated.#They gave me a GRBAS of 33012. I have a fun thing called a pitch break where a whole octave just does not exist.#My vocal pain was bad enough I ended up seeing a speech pathologist and that whole experience was super neat!#I learnt a lot about voice - to be honest I might make a little comic on it after some more research. Fascinating stuff.#For example; your mental perception of our voice modulates the muscles of the vocal folds and larynx.#meaning that when you do have changes (inflammation = more mass = lower frequency)#your brain automatically attempts to correct it to what it 'should sound like'. Leading to a lot more vocal strain and damage!#And it gets really interesting for trans voice care as well - because the mental perception of one's voice isn't based on an existing sampl#So a good chunk of trans voice training is also done with the idea of finding one's voice and retraining the brain to accept it. Neat!#Parkinsonial Voice also has this perception to musculature link! The perception is that they are talking at a loud/normal volume#but the actual voice is quite breathy and weak. So vocal training works on practicing putting more effort into the voice#and retraining the brain to accept the 'loud' voice as 'normal'.#Isn't the human body fascinating?#Anyhow; Now I have vocal exercises and strategies to reduce strain and promote healing.#Which is a lot better than my previous strategy of yelling AAAH in my car until my 'voice smoothed out'.#You can imagine the horror on the speech path's face. I am an informed creature now.#I'm my own little lab rat now. I love learning and researching. Welcome to my tag lab. Class is dismissed.#I'll be back later with a few more answered asks </3 despite everything I'm still going to work and I need the extra sleep.#Thank you for the well wishes! And if you read all of that info dump; thank you for that as well!

Bouncing off all of the fanfics where the Dead Boys are brought back to life again for a period of time to suggest that their thoughts on it are the opposite of what you’d anticipate based on their perception of the living while they’re ghosts. Charles sorely misses living while a ghost, despite all the awful, awful things he was subjected to. Edwin, despite 70+ years in Hell, is perfectly content as a ghost and finds the living distasteful to a degree.
But, when they get hit by an “aliving” spell, that’s not how it goes down at all.
Edwin has not been in a human body for over a century- and even then only got sixteen years of it- so he forgets how much he was missing as a ghost. Actually being able to feel things- the warmth of human touch, the breeze through his hair, the texture of worn book pages. The smell of petrichor after rain, a warm cup of sweet tea. Even just sleeping and having the ability to give his overactive mind a break. He’s forgotten how many good things there were about being alive.
Charles, as expected, is thrilled to be alive again and his first few days on solid ground are a whirlwind, but his energy is short lived. He frequently sleeps over 12 hours a night, and can’t bring himself to get out from under the covers for another hour longer. His appetite fades quickly, and he finds that foods he’s been craving for 35 years just don’t taste the same. Initially he chalks it up to his mind and body readjusting to human life (despite Edwin having none of the same issues), and continues enjoying what he can. But eventually, it becomes clear that something is very very wrong. His right arm that he shattered at age 14 (and didn’t get properly treated for days) begins to ache again. Sudden touches are no longer a gentle spectral sensation, but an unexpected pressure that he shrinks away from. His body feels heavy, and his energy drains quickly if he has any to begin with.
It turns out that over three decades of repressed physical and emotional trauma took its toll on him, and he had naïvely forgotten-or perhaps willfully omitted- the struggle that was his life when he wasn’t out kissing girls and pretending like his father didn’t exist.
Edwin feels a sense of freedom in being human again, away from all the supernatural trauma he has endured, while for Charles it is more of a burden than he ever recalled it being.
