🍲 I wish I could geotag this place properly because the food here is really good. The pork was well seasoned and paired well with pretty much everything, not too fatty but still had a good texture.

🥚 The egg was cooked to perfection, holding its shape until burst, letting the runny yolk out. The only issue I had was that the salad wasn't as cold as expected, but that might have been because I waited until after I finished the other food to eat it. If you are around Wudaokou, try this place out!

Headcanon Update - Kakashi and Tonton

Crack piece written with the wayward thought of "If Kakashi likes to dress up the pack, then surely he would not be opposed to dressing his friends' familiars as well."

What first comes to mind when hearing 'oink' was Tokachi Butadon or Pork Shogayaki, rare dishes in Konohagakure; but a staple in the Fire Country Capital. Other than that, Kakashi has never paid pigs much attention…his heart and soul already captured in full by Pakkun's soft footpads. It was hard not to pay attention to Lady Tsunade however (her annoyed footsteps shook the sandy trenches of Sunagakure on a good day) so naturally one took notice of the tiny shadow that pattered at her heel. Tonton was plump and pink, the pearl collar not something you would expect a shinobi familiar to wear. In contrast to her appearance, she was surprisingly hardy and strong and her sense of smell (Kakashi was loathe to admit) on par with that of his ninken. Her devotion to her Master was admirable, and Kakashi would readily divulge to anyone who asked that he very much enjoyed watching the little pig nip at the heels of young Genin who dared to darken the Godaime's doorway with their complaints over yet /another/ babysitting mission. He….respected (?) the pig as an adept chakra user…he supposed, valued the many additional characteristics that she shared with the adorable, Inuzuka puppies he liked to pet whenever he took Pakkun and the boys to get looked over by Hana-chan. Perhaps respect was too strong a word for a pet, even for that of a Hokage's pet; but Kakashi has almost always given due regard for animals more naturally than his cohorts. Whatever the 'not-respect' was, it was enough of a compulsion for him to remember to purchase an extra, Tonton-sized vest when next he found himself in the shōtengai district, arm already laden with new vests and bandanas for the pack (their last sets well-worn and tattered as a result of one too many a tracking fang technique). Imagine the Godaime's surprise when her next Jōnin induced rant was interrupted mid-way by Kakashi plopping a tiny vest on her desk, shoulders already rising into a half shrug.

"Hai, hai…I get it. No more referring to my aggrieved colleagues by immature code names in official mission debriefs. The season's about to take a turn… maybe Pig-chan could use it?"

The manga is written by Hiromu Arakawa, mangaka of one of the highest rated anime out there, Fullmetal Alchemist ( which I only watched 16 episodes of ). Imagine writing one of the best shonen manga to exist in the past few decades, adapted into the top rated anime on MAL, success showering you over and then you decide- my next manga is about to be about farming. Yeah, you heard her. WE GONNA WATCH THE MCS RAISE SOME PIGS AND STEP ON MANURE. HECK YEA. Jokes aside, the anime is very home-like, comforting the viewers as our main character finds comfort in his new life far away from the city life of Sapporo to the mountains of Hokkaido.

Hachiken, our traumatised main character, has grown up in a competitive environment. He loved studying when he was young but not being able to cope with his parents', especially his father's expectations (daddy issues), he loses his love for studying. A hopeless Hachiken just wants to leave the city, run far away and live alone where he wouldn't have to suffer from excessive competition and his father's mountain-like expectations. Even his brother is someone who resembles Hachiken in many ways. His brother was so good at studying, he got into Tokyo University ( one of the hardest unis to crack in Japan ), and then freaking dropped out to rebel against their father. Take fucking that, uncle. But anyways, his father is a serious man and is humanized a lot over the manga and you could see why a salaryman like him would want the best for his sons. Even if it meant villainizing himself. Basically, I loved the anime so much that I just had to go and read the manga. The anime only has 2 seasons, with a total of 22 episodes. And the last seasons was released in 2014, so you don't have to tell me twice about not waiting for another season.

Hachiken enrolls into an agricultural high school, and while being a misfit at first, he soon finds his love for the place. His own upbringing has made him into a person who can't say no when it comes to helping others. He himself lived in a state of not being able to ask for help. So when he saw others in the same situation, he just can't help but be helpful. Whether it be tutoring his fellow classmates, helping with their errands, taking on irrational jobs like making pizza for everyone etc etc. He finds himself caring for the pigs in the pig shed. He even names one Pork Bowl (Butadon). He grows attached to these animals that have the slaughterhouse in their faith. His morals, his worldviews are put to question. And through all this questioning himself does he finally find himself growing into a person he can admire. He can look his father in the eye soon enough, and you find yourself anticipating for his best.

I've learned some things about agriculture, I suppose. There was this student with Hachiken whose name was Komaba. An outstanding baseball player looking to go pro, soon finds his farm in bankruptcy. To care for his mother and two sisters, he drops out and the show portrays it in such a well thought out way. Hachiken feels conflicted not being able to do anything and you as a viewer wish that their was some easy way out of this. And in the end, there was no easy way. Komaba drops out. And there's this whole arc for Komaba finding his dream and not doing what reality forces him to do. He is a responsible human being, strong enough to bear the burden of part time jobs and paying off their family debt after dropping out. It's all just really interesting. You can tell it's a story about hope. After all, this woman wrote one of the best shounen anime to exist. Even FMAB was praised for it's hopefulness and refusing to succumb to despair. A character named Mikage who is passionate about horse-riding finds herself unable to call for help when her family expects her to take over their family ranch. Hachiken and Mikage go through this test together, and although appearing as a despairing moment, soon enough, hope takes over.

Silver Spoon is an anime that appeals to a niche audience. So it's not wrong when it doesn't get a third season. Animators have to eat and it's a good introduction to the manga. I'm pretty sure anybody who picks up the anime will find himself going to the manga. Simply because you want these characters to win in life. Surely enough, I'm also reading the manga and I'm just 38 chapters short of the ending. I'm anticipating a beautiful ending, because Hiromu Arakawa is a genius at ending shows. I've heard her praise and hope for the best,

8.5/10. A great anime to watch with your family. Wholesome, funny, enjoyable and always something to root for. Pizza, for example.
