Do the Ninken actually stay with you?
Hmm...no.
Although they are very cute and sometimes stay for treats and well-deserved belly rubs, the ninken are not pets. They are skilled comrades that live in their own realm and only enter ours when summoned. Keeping them here for long periods at a time costs chakra.

That's not to say that they aren't around during down time, though. ♡

Mission - Vengeance Outfit Upgrade
Note: @konohagakurekakashi - cuz....ya know! uwu
Tsunade stormed toward yet another shop, marching through the streets like a general preparing for battle, fully expecting Kakashi to follow—or face her wrath if he didn’t. The Jōnin trailed behind her like a prisoner being marched to the gallows, his usual slouch more pronounced, and that infuriating little orange book tucked under his free arm.
How he managed to make a day of torment look like an inconvenience was beyond her.
“Pick up the pace, you lazy brat," Tsunade was on a relentless hunt for an outfit suitable for some ridiculous event the Daimyo had invited the Hokage to attend—an event she wouldn’t have bothered with if not for Kakashi’s insufferable meddling. That cunning brat had somehow managed to rope her into accompanying him, no doubt expecting a shared sense of misery. Well, if he wanted a partner in suffering, she was making sure this partnership got a spectacularly annoying head start.
The market district was alive with the buzz of commerce: merchants shouting over one another to hawk their wares, the metallic clink of coins exchanging hands, and the tantalizing scent of freshly grilled dango. Normally, Tsunade avoided this circus like the plague. Crowds and noise? Pass. But today, this chaos was her playground, and Kakashi was her toy.
“Ah, Hokage-sama! Rukodaime-sama!” A vendor called, “Please, come in and—”
“Not interested,” Tsunade said, waving him off without slowing her stride. Her sandals clacked purposefully against the cobblestones as she dragged Kakashi into the next boutique.
This particular shop was an explosion of silk and satin. Colors too loud to exist in nature assaulted her eyes, racks of kimonos stood like soldiers in a riot of gaudy patterns, and the cloying scent of lavender incense clung to the air. Tsunade wrinkled her nose. She snapped her fingers at a hapless salesgirl who had been hovering nervously nearby. “You. Bring me your best kimonos." Turning to look at Kakashi…well, his visible eye betrayed nothing. But Tsunade could feel the judgment rolling off him in waves.
Good. Let him stew. This was only the beginning. A manic glint in her eyes promised as much
The girl had quickly scurried away, returning moments later with an armful of options. Tsunade’s expression twisted into something between horror and disdain as the first kimono was unveiled—a monstrosity in orange, emblazoned with swirls of bright yellow and, oh sweet heavens, fish cakes.
"Are you daft?" the godaime snapped, radiating disdain.
“Do I look like Uzumaki Naruto to you? Or did the fish cake pattern scream future Hokage fashion trend?”

When Kakashi wakes up he walks around the village and is greeted by the sight of green jumpsuits. Ninja, merchants, grandparents and babies all wearing green jumpsuits. Cries of the power of youth fill the air. If he listened carefully he could even hear infants babbling the word yout. Sunsets popup all around the village. What does Kakashi do?
Maa........

He stabs himself...obviously.
Right in the thigh with a kunai.
Flooding the 'pain' receptors in his peripheral tissue with outside stimuli must be the only way to break out of such a ridiculously, powerful Genjutsu.

|| We all know that Tsunade was completely left to her lonesome once her brother, grandmother and Dan passed. Unable to count on the support of her friends and teammates, she was forced to leave the village with Shizune in tow. Writing prompt on Tsuna-chan's support system when she returned to the village and how she deals with the difficulties of being the Godaime and reworking the leaf's flimsy medical structure. ^^
Note: You and CI just love giving me the hard tasks, don't you? This will make my arms hurt AGAIN! Be glad I adore you both as much as I do - on days you don't deserve it. u-u'' I'll incorporate a bunch of my headcanons we discussed in this too. I will do this in two parts though. I will work on the second part - reworking the medical structure as a separate post.
Godaime's Support System Head Canons
Returning to Konoha, Tsunade felt a profound sense of displacement. The village she had once known, the streets she had walked, were now a blend of familiarity and alienation. The buildings had changed, the faces were different, and the few that she did recognize were either children she had once known, now adults, or people who had aged so much they were barely recognizable. Twenty-five years away from Konoha had left a significant gap, one that was starkly apparent as she took on the mantle of Hokage.
Being the Godaime Hokage was a struggle. She is suddenly in the role of Hokage in a village where generations are used to seeing Sarutobi Hiruzen as the Hokage - apart from the short sparkly Namikaze interlude (then stupid flake went and died and probably cursed Tsunade with his dying breath to become the godaime). She was an enigma to the villagers—a line in the history books, known but not known. They had no choice but to accept her leadership, but trust was a different matter. The first few months were challenging. She felt unfit, an impostor in the role she had chosen. She had chosen to stop running, even though it is in her very nature to do so. But that was where her loyalty to Konoha really shone - though her instinct screamed at her to leave and never look back, she stays. All her loss and pain still has done little to stifle the love for her home.
Support comes to her in the form of Shizune - ever loyal and the caretaker. Their relationship, though, was fraught with underlying tension. Shizune had always been the responsible one, the caretaker, despite being younger. She had seen Tsunade's brokenness, even when Tsunade tried to hide it. This created a deep sense of guilt in Tsunade. Though their love for each other was deep, their relationship never became one of true confidants. Tsunade, lost in her own head, believed she was protecting Shizune from her darkness, not realizing she was doing more harm than good. Shizune wanted to help Tsunade get back on her feet, but Tsunade, due to her pain and guilt remained blind to Shizune's strength, and kept her at a distance, unconsciously denying Shizune the chance to get closer. This strained their relationship, creating a painful distance despite their closeness. It was Tsunade's biggest failure. Despite all these underlaying issues between their relationship, on their return to Konoha, Shizune became a constant source of support and helped streamline Tsuande's administration in a manner that had the system up and running smoothly in a matter of days.
Jiraiya, the fool, could read Tsunade like an open book. He saw her struggles and stayed in the village during those first few weeks, lending his silent strength. She would never admit it—her ego wouldn't allow it—but she deeply appreciated his presence. The Sannin had always been a team, against the world, and having one of her teammates by her side was a comfort as she navigated this new chapter of her life.
Next to join the circle was Kakashi. Seeing Kakashi was jarring for Tsunade. Adult Kakashi looked so much like Sakumo that it was almost painful, yet hard to connect with the sullen, glaring toddler she remembered. The toddler she had spent a number of afternoons with after Sakumo's passing and the one whose memory had haunted her many a time over the years once she left Konoha - his being the last face she saw before she left (how many loved ones had she disappointed by now?). Over time, they struck the oddest friendship (*), loss and bitter experiences acting as the bridge between the two separate generations; kindred spirits who came to rely on each other. Kakashi started filling in the gaps the absence of Jiraiya and Orochimaru had left. This friendship was an integral part of Konoha starting to feel like home again. Kakashi quickly became her right-hand man, his reputation in ANBU and among the jonin turning the tide in her favor. His loyalty was unfaltering, making him a central figure in her support circle.
Inoichi Yamanaka(**) was another key figure in her support network. As her third-cousin(**), their relationship had roots in their shared past and their mutual connection to Minato(**). When she returned, they picked up their relationship easily. Inoichi, along with Shikaku and Choza, formed a bond with Tsunade during a mission when their sensei was injured(***). Shikaku, with his respect for Tsunade's skills and beliefs, was the natural choice for Jonin Commander, a position he held with distinction.
With Kakashi as her right hand, Shikaku as her left, and Shizune managing both administration and the hospital, Tsunade's inner circle was complete. Kakashi and Shikaku's advice equipped her to handle the village's disastrous state, while Shizune's unwavering support helped her stay grounded.
An unexpected addition to this dynamic was Shikamaru. From their first meeting, there was a sense of understanding between them. Shikamaru's brilliance and strategic mind made him a valuable consultant. His involvement allowed Tsunade to influence the younger generation, reinforcing her belief in the Will of Fire.
Note: This is her inner most circle. In time she develops strong relationships with other jonin and chunin, like Anko (who she had known before leaving Koniha so it was was another shock - which became a migraine once she learned exactly how unhinged and at times annoyingly clingy the kunoichi is), Izumo, Kotetsu, Genma, Iruka, and Asuma.
____________________________________________
* Headcanon shared with @konohagakurekakashi.
** Headcanon: Tsunade is cousins with Inoichi and Minato, with Tsunade having a Yamanaka mother and Minato having a Yamanaka grandmother. Due to their age and similar ideas, Minato and Inoichi are rather close growing up. The two genin often end up bugging Tsunade because Minato has developed a fascination with fuinjutsu. This is a headcanon I share with @minaa-munch.
*** Headcanon: During a mission, the Ino-Shika-Cho trio's sensei was injured and needed a few months to recover. During those months, the trio was placed under Tsunade's temporary supervision. Her devil-may-care attitude and wit (the looks certainly helped—as obvious by his words when he declares her the world's most beautiful woman on her return to Konoha) led to Shikaku developing a crush on her, much to Inoichi and Minato's horror ("She's our cousin!!!").

Head Canons - Tsunade and Kakashi
Penned with @konohagakurekakashi and so they are our exclusive property. Narnian craziness ahoy.
❃ A lot of her soldiers are scared of  her brute strength and her altering emotions (as they should be), yet this has the effect of people rarely being honest with her or providing her with their honest opinions, choosing instead to give her the answers they think she wants to hear. This has never been a problem with Kakashi. He always manages to provide her with the hard truth even at the expense of a pen to the forehead. ❃ With that said Kakashi rarely bothers to move out of the way of her flying projectiles...even though they both know that he could avoid the collision without hassle--resulting in many an ink stain on his flak jacket and a broken nose due to an eraser made bullet. He only draws the line when stationary morphs into tables and (formerly built-in) bookcases as he still has a few things to mark off of his bucket list. ❃ He makes a show of sassing her pertaining his workload and nitpicks about unnecessary details... But really... She is probably the Kunōichi he has the utmost respect for and would probably down a vat of vinegar if she deemed it necessary for his health. [which, let's be honest, probably happened at some point - but with soy sauce instead of vinegar] ❃ Kakashi once had to borrow one of Tsunade's tops...as he was half-way in the shower when the village alarms blared a state of emergency. He remembered his mask and weapon's pouch... Yet his standard blue shirt lay forgotten in a pile on his bathroom floor-along with his dignity. When Tenzo (the treacherous Kohai) refused to be the better man and provide him with his own... Kakashi had no choice but to turn his imploring gaze on his Hokage and really she was the one who insisted he cover his chest in the first place. ❃ Kakashi always ends up as Tsunade's test dummy for new medicines. He honestly doesn't know what he did in his past life, but somehow he manages to make due. Luckily the woman is a true master in her field and he's only ever gotten a rash in the shape of bananas, passed out for four days straight and once went for a month where everything tasted like salt, including sugar, as an outcome- Really it could have been worse.
❃ Tsunade is one of the few (still living) that has seen Kakashi without his mask. Mainly due to the fact that she is the only one able to successfully stampede over his terrible, bedside manner to do some actual healing. He only ever attended his annual physicals when Tsunade was in the village.
❃ Kakashi knows how Tsunade takes her tea and what flavour dumplings she likes and had to use said knowledge on numerous occasions to avoid rewriting a mission report or two.
❃ Kakashi is Tsunade’s preferred sparring partner when she eventually wants to spar [all the documents can result in stiff joints ne] - any other Jonin is welcome to join. If they win against her, they get a day off but if she wins, they get to foot her bar bill for the day.
❃❃❃
❃ After her return to the village, she pauses at the doorway of his hospital room. She knows who he is, of course. Jiraiya had often spoken of Kakashi, in recent years, and she knew he was team seven's sensei.  Yet seeing him now, a man where a boy once stood, is a jarring reminder of the years she lost. She remembers the sullen child who shadowed Minato, the silent figure trailing behind Sakumo. To see that boy now, grown but still carrying the weight of his past, is bittersweet.
❃ When she first summons Kakashi to her office, Shizune warns her he’ll be at least three hours late. It’s a rumor confirmed by Izumo and Kotetsu’s sheepish glances. Kakashi never makes it to meetings on time. Yet here he is, slumped against her office wall at the exact appointed hour. Present shinobi  gawk, amazement evident in their eyes. How had she managed this? She hasn’t a clue. Months later, Kakashi lets slip that he wasn’t about to disrespect her on their first meeting.
❃ If someone asked how their camaraderie began, Tsunade couldn’t pinpoint a specific moment. Was it their shared insomnia, their late-night encounters at the memorial stone, or Kakashi’s unwavering loyalty since the first order she gave him? Since her return, she’s found an unexpected confidant in him.
❃ If he’s in the village, Kakashi has an uncanny ability to appear in her office with a bag of snacks whenever she’s on edge after dispatching a team against the Akatsuki. Initially, it annoyed her. Eventually, it became something she relied on.
❃ Despite bearing the title, Tsunade never truly feels worthy of being Hokage. Her inner turmoil, concealed from all, is perceptible only to Kakashi. He confronts her in his usual terse and straightforward manner, asserting that she is the village’s best hope. After enduring his lecture, she snaps that his voice is giving her a migraine. Yet, the silent gratitude in her eyes is the most her pride permits her to reveal in such a vulnerable moment.
❃ Staying true to her sadistic nature, and because she’d rather have an accomplice if she loses patience and snaps at the old prunes, she starts dragging Kakashi to council meetings. After one particularly frustrating session, she storms out, only to return seconds later to drag him with her to a bar. There, she proceeds to get wasted while Kakashi ends up footing the bill. Ironic, considering he’s notorious for making others pay his tabs. Now he’s met his match. They have their own little corner in the izakaya by now, especially with how many times the elders like to question Tsunade on her decisions. Even on simple things like the guard rotation. It would be private enough that Kakashi wouldn't have to sip the sake through the fabric of his mask and Tsunade's loud thumps against the table every time she wants to emphasize a point, would not scare off the other patrons.
❃ Gai came across them in their corner and thought it a good idea to challenge the Godaime and Kakashi to a drink off. Kakashi had the state of mind to slip the poor, potted furn in his corner the majority of his drinks as someone needed to keep a clear-ish head amongst them. Tables were splintered and Kakashi  and no less than two Anbu, dislocated a shoulder trying to keep them from furthering their competition to an arm wrestle. Surprisingly it generated quite the crowd, so the owners weren't too disgruntled. Kakashi did have to give them a shoot of Mr Ukki to make up for killing their furn however.
❃ For some reason, Kakashi and Shizune can not seem to get along at all. Which is a huge source of amusement for Tsunade. She has an ever ongoing bet with Izomo and Kotetsu on which one of the two would snap first, each time they are in her office together. Much to her amusement (and to the terror of her accounts) it is Tsunade's usually very reserved apprentice who keeps losing.
❃ Every time Tsunade gets a letter from Jiraiya about Naruto and his progress, she 'forgets' to put it away and just leaves it laying on her desk. She never questions the letter's disappearance following meetings with Kakashi.
❃ The whole situation with Hiruko shakes Tsunade up and makes her realize exactly how much she has come to depend on Kakashi. As a Hokage she sees him as her right hand. Personally, she considers him to be someone who has managed to fill in the gap her teammates left her with. And so she is hurt. She understands why he made her put the seal on him. It is logical. As Hokage it is indeed the right thing to do - which is why she goes through with it. Doesn't mean she forgives him for putting her into that situation. She feels betrayed and cuts him off for the next few months. It takes a while before she manages to get over it.

"There's your birthday gift!" points at the 4 feet tall pile of reports awaiting his attention. "I'd recommend starting on them as soon as you can if you plan to leave this office before tomorrow."
Tumblr media
He blinked at the stack she pointed out, the urge to see what would happen if he just kicked the heap of reports (all most likely newly-minted, Genin, D-ranks if the saccharine smirk coiling at the Kage's mouth was anything to go by) growing by the minute. He shifted on his feet, the fantasy of a paper drizzle, only reeled in by the equally vivid vision of a downpour of miss-matched office furniture following in its wake. He was getting old now, he didn't heal as quickly as he used to, best to avoid that one.
"Maa....just what I always wanted."
His tone couldn't get any more blasé if he tried, dull gaze shifting from the stack of ink and dead trees, to the Godaime.

I'm interested in the Hatake Clan. Can u share more about them, did they have special rituals or deities like the Uchiha clan?
I’m sorry to disappoint, but the Hatake was already a 'defunct' clan by the time that I was born. My father was never in the village long enough to impart any clan sacraments, and when he was, I was not all that eager to listen. Then he died. I was still pretty young at the time, so I’m not overly familiar with the clan customs or practices. I do know that the Hatake always had an affinity for the earth and for the spirits of the land they minded. The clan crest is literally a paddy of wild rice, to honour the affiliation. I also remember that my father used to bury a handful of Buckwheat underneath the engawa once a month, then joked that it was for Keubiko kami. But, as a child I didn’t think much of the act...finding the idea of a Keubiko kami with no legs a bit....scary.
Tumblr media
As a general rule clan ceremonials are usually kept hush-hush. So maybe it’s not a good idea to go around questioning any of the other clans about their secrets, Hm?

|| If Tsunade was Hokage at the time of Team 7's academy graduation, instead of Sarutobi. Who would she have made their Jōnin-sensei and why?
This is a trick question, isn't it?
Let's be honest, for all its glory, Konoha is a flawed system that boasts traditions as if they are what keep things running. Too often we have seen the idea of Team 7 being linked to the idea of legends, and yet always ending in tragedy.
The exception was Sarutobi's generation, but that one produced the 'undying wrinkles'™, so I am certain there is some freaky zombie voodoo happening there, courtesy of one mad scientist Nidaime.
Tsunade: I'm onto you, Tobirama-oji!!
The Sannin met the 'legend' status and then fell into shambles. As much as I blame plot holes and the like, that was their end, and I am bitter about it still. Kakashi's generation saw the true horror of the Team 7 'curse'.
So of course, being the flawed character that Tsunade is, she would find irony in choosing Kakashi as the mentor too - since he is part of the circle, already. She had a shitty sensei, okay? And Kakashi, being who he is, was likely getting on her nerves. So she would give him a taste of what he does to her—three brats for the overgrown brat.
