The paint may have been drying this afternoon, but I managed to finish it. The shamirakiah version 2 is lit.

as of today (dec. 3):
Israel's military ordered Gaza's second-largest city of Khan Yunis to evacuate--then proceeded to heavily bomb it right after.
Palestinians literally have nowhere to go. the Gaza Strip, which is the border between Israel and Egypt, is closed off.
“we will continue the war until we achieve all its goals, and it’s impossible to achieve those goals without the ground operation,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Saturday evening. translation--he will continue killing innocent civilians in the name of "wiping out Hamas from Gaza."
Al-Ahli Baptist hospital said more than 15 children were killed. but to be clear--most sources say it's yet to be determined how many people were killed since the ceasefire overall. translation: it's probably much higher than 15.
“they strike everywhere,” said Amal Radwan, a woman sheltering in Jabaliya. “there is the nonstop sound of explosions around us.”
reports say the death toll in the strip since Oct. 7 had surpassed 15,500. 70% of the dead were women and children. more than 40,000 people had been wounded.
fears of a wider conflict continued. Lebanon's militant Hezbollah group said it struck Israeli positions near the tense Lebanon-Israel border as clashes between the Iran-backed group and Israeli military resumed. Eleven people--eight soldiers and three civilians--were injured from Hezbollah fire in the area of Beit Hillel, army radio reported.
this is what's happening while the world is watching.

The return of the hostages from Hamas captivity is of the utmost importance to Israel.
I thought it might be helpful for some of you to hear just a bit more about certain individuals that Israel is releasing in order for that to happen. The sacrifice being made.
A thread:
1) Mohammad Abu Warda, responsible for 2 bus bombings in the 90s which murdered 46 people.
He made it clear at his trial that he would never stop murdering until Israel was destroyed. He was given multiple life sentences.
Now he'll be freed.
2) Arafat Irfaiya. In 2019 he raped Ori Ansbacher, a 19-year old, and stabbed her to death. He was sentenced to life in prison, plus 20 years.
Now he'll be freed, and no doubt treated as a hero.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/50368d56f47ddcc42bb475b89189e9bb/7af2006167e71b92-35/s540x810/32ce83164288ad13caf177833a8e4ec142c353b5.jpg)
3) Zakaria Zubeidi, former Jenin commander of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade. Responsible for the 2002 terror attack in Beit Shean in which 6 were murdered. In 2019 he was charged with shooting attacks on civilian buses.
There will be widespread rejoincing in Jenin when he returns.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/2555f3c94caeaf28d2b5d737387f22a7/7af2006167e71b92-db/s540x810/f3873b65b13015e473b1a134dc3d487e285ed9de.jpg)
4) Bilal Abu Ghanem. In 2015 he and a fellow terrorist boarded a bus and began shooting and stabbing passengers. Three died, and dozens were wounded.
He received 3 consecutive life sentences.
Now he'll be freed. Here are two of the people in their 70s who he murdered.
5) Wael Qassem and Wissam Abbasi, leaders of the Hamas-affiliated Silwan cell. Responsible for the carrying out of multiple bombings in the Second Intifada, which killed dozens (one of these bombings, at the Cafeteria at Hebrew University in 2002, pictured).
Now to be set free.
6) Ahmed Barghouti, relative & close associate of Marwan Barghouti.
Ahmed is responsible for a number of terror attacks, including a notorious mass-shooting in 2002 at a reception hall in Hadera (pictured) where people were celebrating a Bat Mitzvah.
Now to be freed.
7) Mahmoud Atallah. Given a life sentence for murdering a Palestinian woman who was accused of collaborating with Israel. More recently, manage to sexually assault and rape female prison guards.
Now to be freed.
8) Ashraf Zughayer. Hamas leader accused of involvement in the 2002 bus bombing on Allenby Street in Tel Aviv, which killed 6 and injured dozens.
Now he'll go free.
9) Tabet Mardawi of Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Responsible for multiple terror attacks, including suicide bombings at stations in Binyamina (pictured) & Afula, a bombing at a bombing at a restaurant in Kiryat Motzkin (pictured).
Now he'll go free.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/fe15e81f70263a505206bf80b3f312c4/7af2006167e71b92-21/s540x810/83f4ecce7e5ee8da2da8c9912ca3ab5fdd1aecfb.jpg)
10) Nassim Zaatari. Received multiple life terms for his role in a 2003 terror attack when a suicide bomber detonated a five-kilogram device packed with ball bearings on a crowded bus in Jerusalem. 23 murdered, including 7 children.
Now he'll be free.
11) Ahmad Obeid, was sentenced to seven life terms for his role in sending out the suicide bomber responsible for the 2004 Café Hillel terror attack in Jerusalem.
Now he'll be free.
12) Leili Abu Ragila. Was serving life imprisonment for his role in the 2006 kidnap and murder of a high school student, Eliyahu Asheri (pictured).
Now he'll go free.
13) There are many more. Murderers. Terrorists. They will go free. They will be greeted as heroes when they do.
Israel is in an impossible situation. The hostages taken by Hamas *must* be freed. But a terrible price is being exacted for that to happen.
14) Jews around the world rejoice with the families of those who have been reunited with loved ones released by Hamas yesterday.
We also grieve with the families who are seeing those terrorists responsible for their loved ones' deaths walk free.
15) One more thought, if I may. You will see media outlets, certain commentators, even some politicians, trying to equate the hostages being released by Hamas with prisoners being released by Israel.
As the above thread shows, such a comparison is grotesque. Show them the truth.
16) I know this thread will not have been pleasant to read or see. I hope, however, that if you have read this far, you found it informative. Please do share it if you found it helpful.
*Thread ends*

Asher Goodwin: "We were a group of about 7 people on our way to Friday dinner. Me and my friend were wearing yarmulkes, because that's what we normally do... then suddenly a man came running from behind and hit us. First he hit Ilan and then me, with a 1 liter glass bottle... he broke the bottle on my neck/throat."
Moav Vardi [news anchor/journalist]: "It happened two months ago in the heart of America. Asher Goodwin and Ilan Gordon, two Jewish students of the university of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, were wearing yarmulkes because they were on their way to the local Beit Hillel"
Ilan Gordon: "I got the full impact, so I had a concussion and my teeth got a little messed up"
Vardi: "Beyond the concussion, Ilan also needed to undergo surgery following injury to the gums. It is a miracle that Asher, whose throat was cut, came out of this incident the way he did (alive and without severe injuries)
[...] Unfortunately, the attack against Asher and Ilan hasn't been a rare occasion in the past year. Soon after October 7th, after Israel started the war against Hamas in Gaza, antisemetic incidents on American college campuses, and in general throughout the United States, have become a real epidemic"

A Columbia University organization which calls itself the “Palestine Working Group” (PWG) is waging an aggressive campaign to gut Jewish life, calling for the abolishment of the campus’ Hillel chapter in a recent statement.
“Hillel is complicit in manufacturing propaganda and consent for the Zionist entity’s imperialist and colonial projects,” PWG said on Monday, issuing its invective on the Instagram social media platform. “The program works directly with Israeli universities and provides Columbia and Barnard students with funding to vacation to ‘Israel’ — an ethnostate responsible for the murder of over 180,000 Palestinians in the last year alone. Sever all ties with Hillel. Academic boycott now.”
Reputed to be the largest Jewish collegiate organization in the world, Hillel International is a “home away from home” for the 180,000 students at over 850 colleges who avail themselves of its religious services, relationship building opportunities, and recreational activities. PWG’s assault on it appears to have been prompted by an upcoming event at Columbia, in which Israeli journalist Barak Ravid will speak as a guest of the Kraft Center for Jewish Student Life — where the Hillel chapter serving both Columbia and Barnard College students is located — and the Institute of Global Politics (IGP).
“The Institute of Global Politics and the Kraft Center will be hosting Barak Ravid, a Zionist, pro-Trump journalist to discuss the ‘Israel-Hamas War,’ PWG said in its statement. “Evidently, Columbia doesn’t believe the Zionist entity’s demolition of Beit Lahia and the blockage of Khan Younis, in just this past week alone, justifies the use of the word genocide.”
PWG has since deleted the statement from its Instagram page, but not before it was widely shared on social media, where it has been lambasted.
“Hundreds of thousands of Jewish students visit Hillel to celebrate Jewish holidays, connect with their Jewish identities, and safely gather in community,” Jewish on Campus, a nonprofit organization, said about the outrage. “When students single out Hillel and attempt to exclude one of the lone Jewish organizations from their campus, their Jewish classmates are denied their right to live as Jews. A call to push Hillel off campus is antisemitism, plain and simple. We won’t be silent.”

Notes on the midterm class (technically, we're 56% through with exactly 105 days left):
We played Jeopardy
My sponsoring rabbi is proud of me?!*
I have realized that etrog (the citron for sukkot) and eruv (the physical boundary to permit carrying items on shabbos) are way too similar for my brain
My team got second place
The guest rabbi was caught off-guard by one of my tangential questions**
We're over halfway through
*These classes are over zoom, and the leader of this class is married to my rabbi. He was listening to me steal anothed team's question about Beit Shammai and Hillel, and apparently was impressed with what I was saying 😭
**I asked what the etymology of ashkenazi is because I have never seen anyone explain why jews from eastern europe are called ashke (ashkenazi comes from ashkenaz, one of the sons of noah)
#jumblr#jew by choice#jewish conversion#personal thoughts tag#once again. i love my rabbi. he's a cool guy#i have legit been pondering the word ashkenazi for years before this. i can now die satisfied (lighthearted)#i didn't call the eruv the etrog thank g-d but i invented a New word to call it: the erot (i cant even remember what i said LOL)

[ 📹 Scenes from the mujahideen of the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon, also known as Hezbollah, targeting the headquarters for the 91st Division of the Israeli occupation army inside the Beranit Barracks, using a missile fired from the southern Lebanese border. ]

HEZBOLLAH STEPS UP ATTACKS ON THE ISRAELI OCCUPATION ARMY ALONG OCCUPIED PALESTINE NORTHERN BORDER
The Islamic Resistance in Lebanon, formally known as Hezbollah, has drastically stepped up its attacks against the Israeli occupation forces (IOF), along the southern Lebanese border in recent days, as the Zionist entity continues its genocide of the Palestinian population of the Gaza Strip.
According to reporting in the occupation media, the Islamic resistance launched several drones on Sunday evening targeting the facilities and infrastructure belonging the occupation army in the northern occupied territories.
One of those drone strikes hit a location in the colonial settlement of Merom Golan, along the northern occupation border, wounding at least 18 Zionist soldiers, while air raid sirens were heard in the Galilee panhandle and the northern Golan Heights.
In another strike, a rocket was fired from the south of Lebanon, striking a target in the Beit Hillel area, striking an open area without resulting in casualties.
In return, the Zionist entity bombed several sites in southeast Lebanon, including the areas of the town of Houla, as well as in Kafr Kila, killing at least one Hezbollah fighter.
Following that, the occupation army bombed the town of Markaba, in the Nabatieh Governate of southeast Lebanon, and also a site in nearby Ayta ash-Shab, Taybeh, and Rab al-Thalathine.

I'm a conservative conversion student with a mikveh date of 08/07 and I wish I was excited but it just feels hollow. I've been at this for 7 years on my own, and 1 year with a rabbi. He had me take a class (that was far to beginner for me, which I mentioned to him and he said “I don’t want you wasting your time on this class if you’re not getting anything from it… well see you in class”) and we've only met individually like 4 times - we've literally talked for less than an hour total. Our last meeting was 5 minutes and consisted of “so do you want go to the mikveh soon?”. It’s been my call this whole way, he hasn’t expressed any opinion or really guided me anywhere. He hasn’t really gauged where I’m at at all, no “how many times a day are you praying?” or “how did you celebrate shavuos?” etc. It just feels so frustrating. I would convert modox if I could but my fiance is not jewish and I'm not asking him to convert. I just feel like I haven't learned anything and I haven’t been challenged at all through this process. It just rubs me the wrong way because this should be hard, some people should get a no, and we should be pushed. Sorry for venting, I’m just feeling really down about this whole thing.
I know how frustrating this must be for you, and I agree that it should be hard and some people should be told no. At my university's Hillel, the rabbi there has an "introduction to judaism" class that meets for one hour a week for eighteen weeks and at the end of it if you get a good grade they just ask if you want to convert and if you do, you get a mikveh date (This class had no testing, and was based entirely on if you just showed up). I was talking about this with the rabbi and asked if they'd ever turned someone away, or if they had ever had someone go to the beit din and determine the person was not yet ready, and they said no, not in all twenty years they had done this class. I knew someone in this class so I asked for the syllabus and reading list, and it was incredibly lack-luster and didn't explain a lot of core concepts of Jewish observance or history (Obviously, how can you learn 4,000 years of history in 18 hours?), did not require you to read the Torah, or to learn any Hebrew at all. The class didn't teach prayers for different occasions, nor did it touch on bible stories and characters. These were supposedly conservative conversions.
I'm not saying "Oh reform and conservative conversions are always bad because theyre not observant etc etc" because I don't believe that, and if an orthodox rabbi did the same thing I would also think it wasn't good enough. What I AM saying is, regardless of whatever movement the person is converting to, they deserve to have a good and thorough education, enough to be able to determine it fits with their wants, needs, and lifestyle. They deserve to know what they're getting into, and are really (in my opinion) owed time, attention, dedication, and care by their sponsoring rabbi. You deserve to have a rabbi who cares enough to make the course more challenging or complex for your needs, and who is willing to make time to meet with you outside of class. You deserve to know about the mitzvot you're going to be saddled with after you convert, because it's not like you can just de-convert, and you should be educated on the various halachic interpretations to decide which one fits for you. You should be thoroughly educated on Jewish history so you understand the people and culture you are joining, and the burden (and blessing) you are putting on your own shoulders by being a part of the Jewish people. To do any less is a disservice to you.
You have two options, the way I see it. You can either complete this conversion, which will be relatively simple from how it sounds, and you will officially be recognized as a Jew by both conservative and reform movements. This will allow you to go on Birthright and other similar programs (internships, educational trips, job offers to Israel, etc) and opens the door for you to go to a seminary or yeshiva that accepts conservative conversions. If you aren't satisfied still, you can try to do another conversion through modox. Or, you can forego the conservative conversion and seek out a modox rabbi instead.
#im not arguing w people who want to misinterpret my post as 'boo reform/conservative jews bad :(' bc im literally not saying that#and if you think im saying that read it again or something idc move on#and if you respond to this with some braindead nonsense im not going to engage#im not saying 'converts bad! :(' either#convos about movements are askinormative and i dont want to contribute to that#anyway my POINT is that converts deserve to be educated about what theyre getting into#which i think is fair#anyway.#jumblr#judaism#frumblr

it’s the last night of chanukah! did you know that when deciding how to light the chanukah candles (increasing or decreasing), beit shammai and beit hillel had opposing views?
beit shammai and beit hillel were two main schools of thought within the ancient jewish legal tradition, who were tasked with interpreting jewish law and scriptures.
beit shammai focused on the days remaining of chanukah (starting at 8 and decreasing) while beit hillel views the increasing light as the growing holiness + celebration of the miracle of the oil. of course, beit hillel is more widely accepted today, however this doesn’t make beit shammai’s interpretation incorrect and both have valid reasons (see link below to read more about it). have a happy chanukah and happy holidays 🩵
