Cutting ties with Hillel so Jewish students can’t have Shabbos dinner or holiday services?
Don’t tell me it’s about protesting civilian casualties in Gaza.

The campus group National Students for Justice in Palestine (NSJP) is waging a campaign to gut Jewish life in academia, calling for the abolition of Hillel International campus chapters, the largest collegiate organization for Jewish students in the world.
“Over the past several decades, Hillel has monopolized for Jewish campus life into a pipeline for pro-Israel indoctrination, genocide-apologia, and material support to the Zionist project and its crimes,” a social media account operating the campaign, titled #DropHillel, said in a manifesto published last week. “Across the country, Hillel chapters have invited Israeli soldiers to their campuses; promoted propaganda trips such as birthright; and organized charity drives for the Israeli military.”
It continued, “Such actions reveal Hillel’s ideological and material investment in Zionism, despite the organization’s facade as being simply a ‘Jewish cultural space.'”
DropHillel claims to be “Jewish-led,” although only a small minority of Jews oppose Zionism, and the group has been linked to and promoted by Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapters.
Hillel International has provided Jewish students a home away from home during the academic year. However, NSJP says it wants to “weaken” it and “dismantle oppression.”
The idea has already been picked up by pro-Hamas student groups at one college, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, according to The Daily Tar Heel, the school’s official student newspaper. On Oct. 9, it reported, a member of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) unveiled the idea for “no more Hillel” during a rally which, among other things, demanded removing Israel from UNC’s study abroad program and adopting the boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement. Addressing the comments to the paper days later, SJP, which has been linked to Islamist terrorist organizations, proclaimed that shuttering Hillel is a coveted goal of the anti-Zionist movement.
“Zionism is a racist supremacist ideology advocating for the creation and sustenance of an ethnostate through the expulsion and annihilation of native people,” the group told the paper. “Therefore, any group that advocates for a supremacist ideology — be it the KKK, the Proud Boys, Hillel, or Heels for Israel — should not be welcome on campus.”
The #DropHillel campaign came amid an unprecedented surge in anti-Israel incidents on college campuses, which, according to a report published last month by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), have reached crisis levels.
Revealing a “staggering” 477 percent increase in anti-Zionist activity involving assault, vandalism, and other phenomena, the report — titled “Anti-Israel Activism on US Campuses, 2023-2024” — painted a bleak picture of America’s higher education system poisoned by political extremism and hate.
“As the year progressed, Jewish students and Jewish groups on campus came under unrelenting scrutiny for any association, actual or perceived, with Israel or Zionism,” the report said. “This often led to the harassment of Jewish members of campus communities and vandalism of Jewish institutions. In some cases, it led to assault. These developments were underpinned by a steady stream of rhetoric from anti-Israel activists expressing explicit support for US-designated terrorists organizations, such as Hamas, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and others.”
The report added that 10 campuses accounted for 16 percent of all incidents tracked by ADL researchers, with Columbia University and the University of Michigan combining for 90 anti-Israel incidents — 52 and 38, respectively. Harvard University, the University of California – Los Angeles, Rutgers University New Brunswick, Stanford University, Cornell University, and others filled out the rest of the top 10. Violence, it continued, was most common at universities in the state of California, where anti-Zionist activists punched a Jewish student for filming him at a protest.

NEW DESIGN: Continuing the tradition of important rabbis (or figures) in contemporary garb, I present to you: Hillel the Elder in a flower crown! Why did I draw Hillel in a flower crown? Maybe it is because of his known kindness and openness…or maybe it’s just because I was feeling a little silly. Either way, now it’s an image that exists.
The text says “if not now, when?” from his famous teaching in Pirkei Avot: “If I am not for myself, who is for me? But if I am for my own self [only], what am I? And if not now, when?”
For me, it’s a movement. It means grounding, balance, and action. It’s a way to address both the joys and pitfalls that come into your life. It’s a way to expect them and move through them.
It’s more than a saying, it’s a way to live.
Available in many colors and styles! (Scroll down from the image to see all the products in the “similar products” field)

A coalition of anti-Zionist groups at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) has issued an open threat to Jews who support Israel and Jewish organizations, promising to treat them as “extremist criminals.”
“We will no longer normalize genocidal extremists walking on our campus,” the group, which calls itself UWM Popular University for Palestine, posted on Instagram last week. “Any organization or entity that supports Israel is not welcome at UWM. This includes the local extremist groups such as Hillel, Jewish Federation, etc.”
Reiterating its first point, the group continued, “We refuse to normalize extremists and extremist groups walking around our campus. We are watching Israel’s legitimacy and international recognition fall to pieces on the world stage. Any organization that has not separated themselves from Israel will be treated accordingly as extremist criminals. Stay tuned.”

The statement has since been deleted, but it alarmed the local Jewish community, which interpreted the post as a declaration of violence to come.
“While we deeply believe in and support freedom of speech and freedom of expression, we believe this post could encourage harassment and violence towards Jewish students on campus as well as towards the staff of Hillel and the Jewish Federation,” the Milwaukee Jewish Federation said in an email to the local community.
The federation said it alerted UWM police, Hillel leadership, and the FBI of the apparent threat.
The local district attorney, however, argued that UWM Popular University for Palestine’s comments are protected by the First Amendment, according to the federation.

I’m sure I’m not the first to point this out but it’s so fuckin weird that “If Not Now” calls themselves that because the full Hillel quote is “If I am not for me, who will be for me? And when I am for myself alone, what am I? And if not now, then when?” and I know they know this because they literally have the full quote on their website, but wow is “campaigning to resume funding to known Hamas collaborator UNWRA ” & “promoting events with blood-libelists & terror apologists (JVP, PYM, AMP)” a weird ass way to interpret that quote.
Self-preservation is supposed to be part of that; it’s literally the first thing that’s mentioned. Not only self-preservation, of course, but also Ahavat Yisrael (love for fellow Jews). And not only Ahavat Yisrael, but also care for the rest of the world, such as Tikkun Olam. But how can you claim to be showing love for your fellow Jews, much less be working towards repairing the world, when you’re promoting & linking arms with people who invite convicted terrorists & Jew-killers to speak at their events?

There's something heinously ironic that so many SJP types attack Hillel chapters on campuses and slander them as breeding grounds of Zionist indoctrination and racism. The conspiracy that Hillel chapters must be secret Hasbara Fascist propaganda centers.
To see the great Sage's name besmirched when he is the reason Jews are so tolerant, compassionate, empathetic, open to debate and new ideas... I mean how many of my fellow goyim even knew who Hillel was before we started to convert? So I don't expect them to get it. But now that I do know, the irony is not lost on me.
Imagine Shammai had bested Hillel in their epic rivalry, how dogmatic and rigid Judaism might be today, and all of world history would probably be different. Like honestly, none of us would be here if you think about it. But what people accuse Jewish college students of secretly believing and plotting and planning... that would fit more into Shammai's worldview than Hillel's, and even then I feel that's a big disservice to Shammai.
Anyway, attacking Hillel chapters, as I see it, is more of this "Lol attention everyone here be ~liberal Zionists~ who pretend to care about human rights while secretly cheering at every dead Palestinian!" nonsense, and it plays into the "Jews were supposed to be the Leftist Religion," narrative as well.
They hate that there are active proud visibly Jewish groups on campuses who are committed to learning and liberal arts and all that jazz. They hate to see Jews inhabit the same spaces they do, dare to identify with their politics and academic values, but still stubbornly cling to a unique Jewish identity. What frauds. They must be fundraising for the IDF! They must be manufacturing Skunk for secret Mossad plants to throw at JVP demonstrators!
Holocaust victims were creating minyanim with trees and you think having your little die-ins at the entrances of Hillel meetings will deter Jews from meeting and celebrate being Jewish? You poor fools.
