Adding on “with negotiation for the return of the hostages” for international audiences because a good portion of people don’t know about them. 🎗️
Almost a million protestors in Israel against the war today
A minimum of 300 thousand in Tel Aviv alone, probably closer to 500 thousand
300 thousand Israelis is a little over 3 percent of the Israeli population; if there was an American protest of that magnitude today that would be almost 11 million protestors
Almost a million protestors is 10% of the population, which would be 34.2 million Americans protestors
This is unprecedented
If y'all would just listen to what the actual Israelis want, you'd understand that WE WANT THIS WAR TO END

Other talks include the Holocaust talk, which in my experience is less of one thing and more of an age appropriate understanding that evolves over time. This may or may not overlap with the family history talk (aka why do we live where we live aka the story of the most recent major traumatic events to happen to your family).
And then, at least if you’re going to public school, there’s the “burning in hell” talk for what to expect from other children who’ve been taught that Jews are going to burn in hell forever and will tell you that because children have no filter. (Hint: you’re not allowed to tell them that Hell is fake because sometimes they get upset and cry, and then you become the bad guy). Depending on where you live, you might need to let Jewish kids know that other kids might want to feel their heads for horns, and that they don’t have to let them.
On a more lighthearted note, there’s also the “how not to ruin Santa Clause for Christian children” talk, which is more complicated than you would think because some kids can be reallllly insistent that Santa Clause brings everyone presents, and they will ask you lots of questions if you say he doesn’t bring you presents.
Your post about Jewish child actors makes me wonder, do Jewish parents have an equivalent of "the conversation" with their children? You know the one, where you have to explain that some people hate you just for being Jewish, and many of them have access to deadly force. I ask because I grew up only two counties away from a neo-Nazi compound.
oh yeah we do.
I mean I'd say roughly there are... maybe 3? "the conversation" for Jews
first is, why is there are security guard, metal detector, crash barrier, big red panic button, etc at the synagogue/Jewish community center/Hebrew school. Pretty much every Jewish space in America is hardened against a terrorist attack at this point. We're spending a huge amount of money and energy on security. The Jewish community is really reliant on community safety grants from the federal government to pay for, bulletproof doors, anti-ramming barriers, metal detectors, and to pay for security guards and stuff.
So yeah Jewish parents have to explain that to their kids and also what they should do if a mad man with a gun comes into the synagogue. So thats the first conversation
the second is, when and where to not tell people you're Jewish, when to hide stars of David, and yarmulkes, and just not say, give a fake not Jewish sounding name. I mean some of us just look Jewish so there's no hope, but maybe you can pass yourself off as Italian or Lebanese. I know a lot of parents with teens who are having this talk with their kids around school trips over seas, but even parents of small kids are coaching them to maybe not let classmates and new friends know they're Jewish right away.
the 3rd is the oldest and the deepest. The when to leave conversation. literally every Jewish family has some elderly relative who tells you not to have any money you can't carry with you. Lots and lots of elderly and these days not even elderly Jews have shoe boxes with cash, gold, and their documents. These days jokes about "go bags" are less jokey than ever in my life. I know lots of Jews in their 20s and 30s who in fact have actual go bags. Our history is littered with dead Jews who misjudged the right time to leave a spiraling antisemitic situation and got stuck and died. And our history is littered with times when we've been expelled or faced "leave or die" offers where we're allowed to take almost nothing. It's a big part of why Jews so often stress education, they can take your bank account, your house, your car, your business, but they can't take whats inside your head. No one wants to be the Jew who judges when to leave wrongly or the Jew who doesn't have any easily movable wealth because they trusted the gentile's word that a bank account was safe. It's a conversation all Jews have among their family with differing levels of seriousness though again more serious now than any time in my life, whats the point, the sign the moment when its too much and we leave, and if we leave where do we go?
#antisemitism#jumblr#did I get all the talks#probably not#good news is lots of Jewish holidays come with easy ways of explaining antisemitism for children#that involve tasty food#and Jewish heroes#so

Not to derail the post, but this isn’t even new-

^ there was literally a pro-Nazi organization that splintered from the Democratic Party called “National Union for Social Justice.”
The thing that I’ve noticed about leftist antisemites is that they will spout the same ridiculous bullshit conspiracy theories that right wing antisemites do, like ZOG, but wrap it up in thinly veiled woke language. And when an actual Jewish person (or anyone who’s educated on antisemitism) comes along and calls them out on it, they will get so furious, like a sense of entitlement. It’s almost like “how DARE you call ME, a leftist, an antisemite?! Don’t you know that leftists by definition are righteous saviors of the oppressed?!” It’s especially insidious because they will be repackaging the Protocols and insist that they aren’t antisemitic, just “criticizing Israel.” At least right wing antisemites will tell us up front that they want us all dead. Leftists spout the same exact shit but disguise it as social justice.
#jumblr#antisemitism#leftist antisemitism#right wing antisemitism#they’re actually basically just indistinguishable

Are you really a Palestinian Jew? Both sides say differently about the existence of such a person. Do you live in Palestine or Israel? Are you okay?
You have it right.
I live in the United States, my mom’s family is Ashkenazi Jewish, and my dad’s family is Assyrian and immigrated to the U.S. from Mandatory Palestine (which they called Southern Syria). UNWRA traces their official Palestinian designation patrilineally, so 🤷♀️
I got sick of people making up weird shit about mythical Palestinian Jews, so I figured I’d just give the people what they so clearly wanted and become the official authority on the subject.
(No but for real, people (mostly those who claim to be pro-Palestine) spread so much misinformation on British and Ottoman Palestine that it’s not even funny. I can definitively tell you that people did not identify as Palestinian (as any sort of collective nationality) at any point under the Ottomans or the British.)

So basically I indentify as a Palestinian Jews solely for the purposes of being able to tell jewitches-
That she’s super wrong and very stupid on behalf of probably 100% of Palestinian Jews because as far as I know it’s me and my dad and no one else.

I could go on forever but my point is that a lot of leftists hold this cognitively dissonant belief system that requires them to believe that no one would ever act selfishly or out of irrational hatred for others if only all their needs were met, while simultaneously blaming all the world's problems on a class of people who have all their needs met and yet continue to perpetuate harm. And in order to make these two discordant sets of beliefs work together, it requires believing that "The Rich" are fundamentally, genetically different than Normal Working People, and behave differently and more selfishly than Normal Working People do or would when given that same power. And when one starts believing that The Elites are fundamentally, secretly inhuman and different than Normal Working People, it always, always circles around to blaming The Jews.

This is because they voted for the Green Party, which openly opposed and continues to oppose US aid to Ukraine (or any of our allies).
They couch their unwillingness to support Ukraine in any meaningful way in condescending pro-peace-for-Ukraine nonsense speak.
The plan for peace in Ukraine is, of course, to let Russia do whatever they want to Ukraine.

From 2023 ^
That clicking sound you hear is Jill Stein voters furiously typing "Kalama Harris would've rolled out the red carpet and gotten into the same limo as Putin, too."

What is it with people pulling out “by any means necessary” to justify atrocities that are by no means necessary… or even remotely productive.
#jumblr#I don’t even agree with by any means necessary#like no matter how righteous the cause#but uhhh

I see the "protests are supposed to be disruptive" dragged out a lot for protests that are just disruptive. Protests certainly can be disruptive, but they're also supposed to do something.
#not quite the same#but reminds me of#by any means necessary#(which I don’t even agree with)#being used to justify things that are not necessary#and are probably counterproductive to the stated goal#us politics

why do people seem to forget the existence of dogwhistles the moment the conversation is about Jews or Zionism?
Yall will see someone say “The Zionists secretly control the media and the banks.” And when someone points out the obvious antisemitism in that you throw a shitfit because they said ZIONIST, not JEW, and therefore it cant possibly have anything to do with the common trope that jews control the media and banks, and YOU’RE actually antisemitic for conflating them.
like at this point MTG could’ve just said it eas a Zionist space laser and yall would’ve believed her

Just found this again and I had a commenter mention (rightly) that I probably should have said that while North Korea has no freedom of speech and you probably would get killed for saying Zionist things, the Instagram post has no attached source for this being a new update, and I couldn’t find one by googling it.
Was anyone going to tell me that the Palestinian Youth Movement has been like... openly in support of the regime in North Korea this whole time??
Like I'm grabbing screenshots of their instagram story like they didn't publically sign on to Nodutdol's unhinged People's Summit for Korea.

The one take on the Hunger Games that irks me the most is claiming its about capitalism. Because Panem is explicitly, textually NOT capitalist.
I'm not even talking about in the 'oh thats not REAL capitalism' kind of way. I mean I dont recall any indication of private enterprise. The district workers labor for the government in the capital. Resources and rations are centralized and dolled out by the government. Wealth and privileged come not from business, but from ones proximity(literal or metaphorical) to the capital.
Like, Panem more closely resembles Soviet style communism than anything that could reasonably be called capitalism.
#like the people that grow the food are punished if they eat more than what is rationed#hello Soviet Union
