Listen y’all, I understand that assisted living facilities and group homes are notorious for being bad and sometimes even abusive, however when I reach out to the community and ask for advice relating to me possibly going into assisted living or a group home, your automatic response shouldn’t be to attack me.
To automatically assume that it’s my parents who are pressuring me into it. To assume that I don’t need it. To say that I’m a horrible person for even suggesting it. Some of us can’t live on our own and don’t have the best home life. I HAVE to look at other options and I honestly don’t think having support care come to a house or apartment I own is for me. (Not to mention I probably will never be able to work enough or at all to be able to afford my own place)
It’s very…demeaning. I understand completely why some people are on the fence about it and have had bad experiences because I know there’s more bad then good experiences, but please don’t assume. Please don’t attack me for just asking questions.
It’s really annoying and I will start blocking people who do it.

Disabled friends,
A friend in looking to go to an assisted living facility because at home care isn't meeting her medical needs and she has a limited support network. (Her choice, no one's pushing her.)
But,
I want to make sure she goes somewhere that will actually take care of her. Especially since she's had bad experiences with institutions and some medical trauma. I don't want her to end up in an even worse situation, especially since she's moving far away.
I know the midnight burrito test for institutions. Are there any questions I should make sure to ask to probe for safety and comfort?
(I'm also researching this online but search results are filled with junk and few disabled perspectives.)

Back in the 80s my friend Tamara was a cool, funny, and sweet rock 'n' roll chick at my high school in Las Vegas. Now she's a disabled caregiver facing homelessness for herself and her elderly mom, who has dementia. If you can donate or share the link, anything helps.

Goes what?
The home might work out for me!
I'd prefer a slightly more involved one. (No own apartments, just rooms, more staff) But this might be enough support!
And I'm only moving across the street. Literally.
And now that I officially have bpd (even though I dont) I'm gonna go to dbt. So hopefully that'll be good for me.
It won't magically fix me or my life. But it's gonna fkin help for sure.
Might get to move in as soon as 1st of Feb.
I really hope it's enough there and i dont have to move across the country to live in an even more involved space.
It's nice to have something good come my way for once. ^-^
Stay safe as Always.

Supporting Our Elders: Charities Easing Financial Burdens for Seniors
Introduction
Life can be tough, especially for our seniors who are like the seasoned threads holding our society together. With healthcare costs going up and pensions not always cutting, a lot of them are struggling to make ends meet. Luckily, there are these awesome charities for seniors that have stepped up to help. They're like a friendly hand reaching out to make things a bit easier for our elders. So, let's check out some of these charities that are all about giving financial support to seniors, and helping them get through life with dignity and grace.
The Rising Financial Challenges for Seniors
Before delving into the charities making a difference, it's crucial to understand the landscape of financial challenges faced by seniors today. As medical expenses soar and the cost of living continues to rise, a significant number of older adults find themselves struggling to make ends meet. Fixed incomes, often derived from pensions or Social Security, may not be sufficient to cover the burgeoning expenses of healthcare, housing, and daily living.
Meals on Wheels: Nourishing the Body and Soul
Meals on Wheels is a renowned charity that operates across the United States, dedicated to addressing the nutritional needs of seniors who face financial difficulties. The organization delivers nutritious meals to the doorsteps of older adults, ensuring they receive the sustenance necessary for a healthy life. This not only addresses the physical well-being of seniors but also provides them with a sense of connection and community.
The National Council on Aging: Empowering Seniors Financially
The National Council on Aging (NCOA) is committed to empowering seniors through a variety of financial assistance programs. From benefits enrollment assistance to initiatives aimed at reducing healthcare costs, NCOA works tirelessly to improve the economic well-being of older adults. By connecting seniors with available resources and advocating for policies that support their financial security, NCOA plays a crucial role in ensuring seniors can enjoy their later years with peace of mind.
AARP Foundation: Creating Opportunities for Seniors
The AARP Foundation, an arm of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), focuses on creating opportunities and solving the challenges faced by seniors in various aspects of their lives. Through initiatives like the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), the foundation helps older adults find employment opportunities that align with their skills and interests. By fostering financial independence through employment, AARP Foundation contributes significantly to enhancing the quality of life for seniors.
Benevolent Societies and Local Community Charities
In addition to nationally recognized organizations, local benevolent societies and community charities often play a vital role in supporting seniors facing financial difficulties. These organizations may provide direct financial assistance, cover essential expenses, or organize community events to foster a sense of belonging. Their localized approach allows them to tailor their assistance to the specific needs of seniors in their communities, ensuring a more personal and impactful connection.
Senior Affordable Housing Programs
Housing is a significant concern for many seniors, especially those on fixed incomes. Charities that focus on affordable housing for seniors contribute immensely to addressing this critical need. By partnering with developers, community organizations, and government agencies, these charities work towards creating affordable housing options that allow seniors to maintain their independence and live in safe, comfortable environments.
Financial Education Initiatives for Seniors
Charities dedicated to providing financial education to seniors are instrumental in equipping older adults with the knowledge and skills needed to manage their finances effectively. Workshops, seminars, and one-on-one counseling sessions offered by these organizations empower seniors to make informed decisions about budgeting, investments, and retirement planning. By enhancing financial literacy, these charities contribute to the long-term financial well-being of seniors.
Connecting Through Technology: Cyber-Seniors Programs
As technology becomes increasingly integral to daily life, charities that focus on connecting seniors with the digital world play a crucial role. Cyber-Seniors programs teach older adults how to use smartphones, computers, and the internet, opening new avenues for communication, entertainment, and even employment. By bridging the digital divide, these charities empower seniors to access online resources that can alleviate financial burdens and improve their overall quality of life.
The Importance of Volunteering: RSVP and Senior Corps
Charities like the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and the Senior Corps recognize the wealth of experience and knowledge that seniors bring to their communities. These organizations facilitate volunteer opportunities for older adults, allowing them to give back to society while staying active and engaged. Through volunteer work, seniors not only contribute to the well-being of others but also find a renewed sense of purpose, which can positively impact their mental and emotional health.
Navigating the Application Process: Benefits Outreach Programs
Many seniors are eligible for various government assistance programs and benefits, but navigating the application process can be daunting. Charities specializing in benefits outreach help seniors understand their entitlements and assist them in completing the necessary paperwork. By simplifying complex processes and ensuring that seniors receive the financial support they are entitled to, these charities make a significant difference in the lives of older adults.
Conclusion
There are these cool charities that are all about helping older folks dealing with money problems, and they add some crucial elements to this whole song we're jamming to, making our society more caring and in sync.
We should take a moment to give a shoutout to our older peeps for all the cool stuff they've done and been through. It's on us to make sure they get the backup they need to deal with all the money stuff that comes with getting older. Supporting these charities and what they're about isn't just good for our seniors; it's like adding some extra strength to the whole human connection thing we've got going on.

Embracing the Golden Years: A Comprehensive Guide to Senior Living
People look for comfort, companionship, and a satisfying life during their golden years. The idea of senior living has changed a lot over the years. Now there are a lot of different choices available to meet the needs and preferences of our growing older population. In this in-depth look, we explore the complex world of senior living, revealing the many levels of care, society, and way of life that make up this important stage of life.
I. Getting to Know the Senior Living Scene:
1.1 The Change in the Population:
The baby boomer group has caused the population to age, which has created a huge need for senior living options. As the number of older people grows, so does the need for a wide range of personalized living situations.
1.2 What Does Senior Living Mean?
There are many types of housing and care choices for seniors, from independent living communities to assisted living facilities and memory care units. It's important for people and families going through this journey to understand the differences between these choices.
II. The Different Parts of Living as a Senior:
2.1 Living on Your Own:
Seniors can live a busy and independent life in an independent living community. There are often common areas, exercise centers, and planned activities in these places, which help people feel like they are part of a community and get involved.
2.2 Helped Living:
Assisted living centers offer personalized care plans for people who need a little more help with daily tasks. Residents are encouraged to be independent and get help with things like personal care and managing their medications while also having the chance to socialize.
2.3 Care for People with Memory:
Memory care centers give people with Alzheimer's or dementia specialized help and a safe place to live in order to meet their specific needs. These places put safety first and plan activities that will improve the quality of life for the people who live there.
III. The Part of Community in Living Later in Life:
3.1 Making Friends and Social Connections:
Seniors can have a hard time when they feel lonely and alone. To fight this, senior living communities try to make social places that are lively and plan events that help people make friends and connections.
3.2 Living with Generations:
Bringing people of different ages together in a neighborhood is becoming more popular among seniors. This method helps both older and younger people help each other and makes everyone's life better.
IV. Important Things to Think About When Choosing Senior Living:
4.1 Affordability and Planning Your Money:
When looking into senior living choices, the cost is an important thing to think about. Families can make better choices if they know how much different types of facilities cost and look into financial planning tools.
4.2 Access to and Services for Health Care:
It is very important to be close to healthcare services. A key part of a well-rounded senior living community is easy access to medical centers, rehabilitation services, and ongoing healthcare support.
V. How technology has changed senior living:
5.1 Solutions for Smart Homes:
Smart home solutions have been made possible by advances in technology that make homes safer and more convenient for seniors. Technology is changing the way seniors live, from voice-activated assistants to remote health tracking.
5.2 Doing social things online:
Virtual tools have become an important way for seniors to stay in touch with each other, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Virtual events, video calls, and other online activities have been shown to help people who feel alone.
VI. Dealing with Problems in Senior Living:
6.1 Staffing and the Quality of Care:
When senior living facilities don't have enough staff, it can affect the level of care they give. To solve this problem, we need to push for better training, competitive wages, and putting the health and safety of the caregiving workers first.
6.2 Following the rules:
It is very important for the safety and health of residents to follow the rules and laws. In order to provide the best care, facilities must stay up to date on new rules and follow them.
VII. Trends for the future in senior living:
7.1 Green and sustainable projects:
As people become more aware of the environment, senior living communities are starting to use more eco-friendly methods. Green projects, like neighborhood gardens and buildings that use less energy, help people live healthier and more active lives.
7.2 Customized health and wellness plans:
Individualized wellness programs that meet the specific health needs and preferences of each resident are likely to be a big part of the future of senior life. More and more people are turning to holistic methods that look at your physical, mental, and emotional health.
Conclusion:
Senior living is a big field that is always changing. This shows that we want our older people to have full and honorable lives. To enjoy the golden years with grace, you need to know about all of your choices, accept your community's role, and keep up with technological advances. As we look to the future, new ideas and a focus on overall health and happiness mean that seniors will have a happy and successful journey in their later years.

Home Care: Making a Difference in your Elder's Aging Life
Matters involving parents’ aging condition are major concerns among siblings specifically when their elders live on their own away from them and visits become a struggle because of distance. If during a visit, a parent or both of them exhibit signs of difficulties attending to their daily needs or managing even simple household routines, it is probably the right time to think of their living situation. It should also trigger you to gather the whole family and plan for the appropriate care for your elders.
Because the aging population is growing at a fast rate, elder care services are also sprouting in every corner, making it easier for you to find one just perfect for your parents’ needs. Sending them away from home to senior facilities would somehow be a viable choice especially if it would be impractical and out of the question for you and your siblings to accommodate your parents in your own home. But the thing is, most old people disapprove of living outside the comfort and familiarity of their own homes, and as much as possible, they want to preserve their independence and dignity as they age.
If this kind of situation arises, you and the rest of your family can make your parents’ aging life an uncomplicated one by discussing with them the changes that would inevitably take place. You can always opt for home care, a senior care service that provides the necessary assistance for your loved ones within the convenience of their own home.
Providing loved ones with home care
Even if you commit yourself to taking care of your elders, you’ll find it really taxing and the need for assistance is welcome especially when you must run your own errand or you need to attend to important matters. Home care provided by professional caregivers could alleviate some of your burdens, particularly with daily living tasks of bathing, grooming, eating, toileting, and even shopping. If you live far from your parents, home care gives you peace of mind that your parents have a companion and that somebody is taking care of them and attending to their needs. For as long as your parents do not experience serious health problems that require nursing homes, home care is the best option for their living accommodation.
Providing a safe and elder-friendly home
Once, the family has decided to give the elder a home care, the next thing you should consider is making the house more livable and less prone to accidents if not totally free from them. This means redesigning your parent’s house to create a living space perfect for their aging at home. Floors should be maintained with skid-free wax and if you must have rugs, make sure that they are secured with tacks. Their bathroom and toilet must have enough space to move about taking into consideration that they might need a wheelchair in the future. Mount grab bars in their bathroom, kitchen or in any place you deem necessary. Remove clutters especially in hallways that would possibly make your elders stumble. Install security and communication gadgets so your loved ones can easily get help when needed.
Aging of elders at home need not be complicated and worrisome as long as you give it a great deal of thoughts and serious planning. A home care with a professional caregiver and a living space designed to fit their needs are just about the essentials for your parents to endure and enjoy their twilight years.
