Ok what’s with some writers forgetting about Marinette’s Asian heritage in some DC Xover fics?? Y’all are really trying too hard to create bio!dad Bruce AUs! We already have his canon wards, at least those other fan writers are more respectful of the canon sources! Heck, the bio fam batfamily from only their universe/source material is infinitely better than the Xover ones any day!

The DC fans be like, “Huh? What’s up with the Damian tags rising? *looks at social media feed but frowns* Wait why is a soft ass show crossing over with DC? WTF is going on?! They don’t even make sense at all!”

Hope you don’t mind me sharing a few opinions from other similar things:

Danny Phantom x other shows fanfics are probably just diet versions of Miraculous crossovers. But the bashing is quite toned down on his parents and canon girlfriend Sam that a portion of the fandom detests. I don’t mind crossover ships since the DP phandom is chill about it but it’s always the miracubitches ruining crossover fics. Funny thing is that Danny’s fans also do the “Protagonist Morality Centric” and coddle him more/treat him better than the Miraculous protagonists’ fans. Strangely he isn’t an abuse victim yet some fans write him as such. I don’t even follow the tags anymore since late 2023 but I’d occasionally share my opinions/criticism when I feel like it, and nobody dogpiled me on AO3! Pointing out various fandom parallels, they aren’t so different in their stans and hatedoms after all. It’s just certain sections of a community being way louder than others. I’m kinda uninterested in it now because DP’s canon is more bearable compared to Miraculous. At least I’d admit that it’s not the best show in history because of said canon and some fans making Danny immune from criticism, treating him like an innocent angel even though he’s got flaws like everyone. Though their canonically released graphic novel really fixed things.

Turning off the mature button on any art site without tag filtering is a regretful decision… even worse on D/A when there’s clearly sus art that deserves to have the mature filter. I feel bad for innocent and good users who are too used to using the site to upload their content… but they really should move somewhere more manageable like tumblr, AO3 or whatever else isn’t uber cultish or volatile.

I mean, I have nothing against that kind of art but those people should’ve just done that on the more mature sites instead of the mainstream sites… I’m guessing they’re too damn lazy to do it… the staff are either too busy with other matters, complacent with it or just don’t care whilst punishing those who did nothing wrong.

Strange thing is, when other people give out similar toned reviews on other series, they didn’t get deleted by TVTropes staff or mass flagged by the stans. Probably because they are secretly biased when it comes to how opinions are said and done. Or maybe my deleted review was a little too “harsh and mean” for their standards. That site has potential for introducing canon content and fanfics for curious internet users, not just people using creative funny terms. But they’re overshadowed by biased staff who’s more worried about silencing harmless opinions rather than making sure people are behaving. The review section should have the 5 star system like other sites so people can sort them out, hence reducing the likelihood of being silenced.

In mid 2022, I tried to create a page for a popular canon divergent fanfic from One Punch Man but that got deleted for “lack of updates/maintenance”. Yet someone else did the same thing and didn’t get whacked in early 2023. Probably because that current version is better written than the old version. Even so, there should’ve been sections for the old and new versions because some readers were ok with the old deleted one. Even if there were Karens fussing a lot with guest reviews (no login needed so that’s bad for inactive fics unlike AO3 ones where guest emails are required not just regular users) about the old version on Fanfiction.Net/FFN. No good deed goes unpunished huh?

Indeed. It doesn’t take much for these maggots to discard everything they know goes on in Adrien’s life. They gotta find or make a way to blame him or fault him and put him on equal scale of all else. Gabriel Nathalie and Tomoe can hold hands destroying him and everyone but somehow people will erupt against Adrien over some minor inconvenience to them. Then they want to find way to auto drag him into a situation to be at fault cause well idk. People are weird.

Oh gawd. That Marinette going to DC thing or that strange Damianette thing. EEK. That thing seems like a some methfic people wanna taken seriously to save Marinette or her to live a better life somehow. Huh herritage of Marinette erasure. These people find new ways to even crap on the girl they want to move to Gotham for some reason. I remember scrolling and few of these crossover methfics were for Lila Saltery. Honestly, what are these peeps doing?

People do love choosing when to purge one while turning blind eyes on another or others doing similar to beyond. Seems these people targeting you view you as their real struggle in life. They want to be pissy and triggered and unfortunately higher-ups are lames. The I’m cool with them doing to it but you somehow cause them to commit...

Sucks how some sections/fandoms are rather chill whereas other sections/fandoms of are off the deep end (especially when the deep end ones seem or are the more prominent)

love danny phantom, mlb, and dc, but somehow not the crossovers? idk why. you would think id find it the best of both/all worlds but i just cant get behind the oversaturation of the crossovers in fanfic, probably because so much of what makes the originals so interesting gets lost in translation. this holds true for so many elements in these three seperate things, but mostly its the fanonization of the batfam and particularly tim drake that turns me off. the way fanon sees tim has truly turned me off the character

The funny thing about Maribat (and the general reality that DC fandom peeps are largely ignorant of DC canon) is that, ignoring all of the ML salt origins of the crossover, there are actually multiple DC heroes based out of Paris. And they never show up in ML/DC crossovers.

There’s Nightrunner, the parkour-performing member of the Batman of All Nations.

There’s Crimson Fox, the pair of perfume-heiress sisters sharing a costumed identity.

There’s Mademoiselle Marie, a secret agent/freedom fighter who‘s the tenth woman to bear the name in a legacy stretching back hundreds of years.

And the best one, given all of the “The Justice League stays out of Paris” tropes in ML/DC crossovers? The League was headquartered there for a time.

They had an embassy.

Now that’s a crossover I would like to see.

You know what bugs me? The maribat fandom gets a lot of hate for salt (yeah there are heavy ones out there, but people are actually getting better about it). But mlb fandom is just as guilty?? I have seen fics without any dc character even mentioned that are just salty as all hell. I have seen it with every ship involved. You see it with Adrinette, Lukanette, Kagaminette, and so on and so forth. (Hello? HBIC au?) Nobody is innocent in this, and it's time for people to stop acting like they are.

The maribat fandom worked their ass off for their placement. Maribat is not some punching bag to get frustrations over placement out on. That's not right. You don't need to send hate, or leave hate. That makes you just as bad as the fics you are complaining about, maybe you should think about that.

Let's all remember that these are real people. They have feelings. Knocking them down for writing fanfiction is so ridiculous. Fandom crossovers have been around for the longest time. Get over yourselves, block the tag, and move on with your life. This is the real world, you're not going to get what you want no matter the amount of hate you send.

Now, this is not me sending hate to the authors who write it. This is me proving a point. I'm tired of seeing the unneccessary hate, so I'm saying something. Everyone keep writing what you are, I hope you have good writing and no hate! That goes for every fandom and every ship! ❤

I've got only one question for you and that is:

If you don't like it, then why do you even complain about it?

I understand that you may not like it, but it doesn't mean those who do, have to stop.

We know there's no possibility it would happen, we do, but it doesn't mean we can't dream, write, be passionate about it, enjoy it.

If you don't like maribat, then just don't read it. It's simple as that. You can exclude it in the tags so it doesn't show up and when you see one, simply move on. You don't have to immediately hate it or write a post where you complain about it. There's no obligation you even have to acknowledge it.

I myself don't like many things and ships, but you don't see me saying they shouldn't exist or are wrong.

Please, keep in mind that there are people who like it and you may hurt someone by insulting things they enjoy. There are real people behind these screens and it hurts when you say things they like shouldn't exist. You might insult someone who put their time and heart into creating work for the fandom and make them feel insecure about something they like and enjoy.

Yes, you have your opinion and I respect it, we all do, but when you share it, please, don't make it hateful.

You don't have to like maribat, you can just ignore it, you can just leave it.

The Most Vibriant Color In the Rainbow (Jasonette)

Red. It was in your veins, it’s the color of fire and the setting sun. Red was the color of France’s superhero. A heroine that was wilting like a rose. She was hanging on by a thread and the Fates seemed so very tempted to snip it. There, in the shadow of the heroine’s mantel, lies a girl who is just fighting to not have her voice stolen from her again.

Marinette Dupain-Cheng was that same hero, but she was so much more than that. She was an artist, a daughter, a designer, a partner, and a friend. Marinette knew exactly how to fix any problem that came her way no matter how bad of odds there were. She came, she saw, and she conquered every challenge that dared come between her and her goals. All Marinette wanted to do was love. So the question is, what happened to the Marinette everyone knew?

Away with the firecracker that was Marinette, anew with a pale imitation of the beautiful girl. She moves mechanically, every step she takes she’s made a thousand times over. All of this because of the Antichrist herself, Lila Rossi, made good on her promise to herd the sheep into her flock. The sound of crocodile tears could be heard ringing through the classroom, “W-why are you s-so mean? I-I just w-wanted a dress f-for the dance!”

Marinette stared at the Italian woman with a glare that could kill, “And I told you, I cant. I have my responsibilities and you have your ‘responsibilities’ we’re both busy people. Your universe may revolve around Lila, but mine revolves around me. It’s sad that you think you can guilt trip me into doing something I don’t want to do when you and I aren’t friends. Call me mean all you want, but I won’t care. You and everyone else in this class mean absolutely nothing to me. I do what I have to do to survive and you are a shepherd to week sheep. It’s unfortunate for you that you would ever think I would fall in line for you.”

A hush fell over the room. No one expected Marinette to clap-back against Lila, but more so that she would speak with no emotion backing her. Lila, stunned silent, forgot to keep crying. Ladybug doesn’t let anyone treat her like a stepping stone, so why should Marinette? Marinette is Ladybug inside and outside of the mask. She just puts the mask’s responsibilities more important than Marinette’s happiness. An obnoxious girl with glasses broke the silence, “W-What d-did you say?”

“You heard me, Alya, we are not friends. You chose the shiny new toy over truth. I want nothing to do with unreliable sources,” The tone she used was deadly, “something you do a lot. It’s no wonder why Ladybug stopped endorsing your blog. It’s such a shame that you chose someone who Ladybug has publicly claimed has no connection to her over the one who got you your interviews. Or did you forget, that I’m the one who actually knows Ladybug and is friends with?”

Everything stopped. No one breathed, blinked, or moved. You don’t know fear until the wrath of the Cheng family befalls you. Though they might not have the resources, or so you think, (A/N: I headcannon that the Dupain Chengs are rich bc they are the best bakers in Paris, plus why would Gabriel or Aubrey let their children go into public school.) The Cheng family held themselves with a an air of respect without even trying. Marinette maybe wilting due to the weight of the world, but she would not crumble to the will of uneducated teenagers.

Red. That is the color of vengeance, anger, and blood. Red is the color of Gotham’s vigilante. A zombie of a man trying to rebuild what was once his life. Across an ocean there is a boy that just had his world turn upside down. He died an incredibly gruesome death and had he thought no one mourned his loss.

Jason Todd was Red Hood, the loose cannon of Gotham. Everyone thought the pit had taken him to the place of no return. That his mind was the problem. Yes, the pit madness made his angry, but it didn’t make him lose his mind entirely. Behind his anger, Jason was just a boy taken too soon and then mutilated for other people’s benefit. He craved physical affection. He pleaded for trust. He needs his father to tell him he loves him.

Red Hood stayed out during patrol to clear his head. He looked down on the city while perched on a high rise. It usually calmed the voices in his head, tonight they seemed restless. Jason wished for silence, he felt oppressed by the dreariness of the city. Something in his heart told him that this isn’t where he was meant to be. The voices told him to jump off the high rise and to the voices Jason responded with a kind, “Thanks Karen, but fuck right off.”

No stars could be seen due to the pollution of Gotham, but the moonlight shone on Red Hood. He stared at the moon, deep in thought, “Where would I even go?” He asked himself, “Who would want me?”

Not even the voices wanted to hear him talk about him, “Paris,” they whispered.

“Why Paris?” Paris? What’s so specials about Paris?

“Trust us,” the voices responded, “there’s something you won’t want to miss.”

Jason filed that under the folder titled ‘Another question for the therapist that I don’t have.’ He couldn’t deny the pull he felt towards Paris no matter how hard he tried. There was no reason to go though, but there was no reason to stay either. They were all fine without him before why would this time be different?

It was then Jason was reminded the coms were still on and that Tim was an insomniac, “Paris? What are you talking about?”

“Don’t worry about it Timmy. I’m just thinking about taking a vacation. Don’t tell B yet, I’m not sure I should even go,” He knew it wasn’t Tim’s fault, but he couldn’t help but feel that familiar tingle of resentment towards his brother. He shook the feeling away, “I just need a breath, Gotham seems to have me dying all over again.”

Tim reassured Jason that his secret was to be kept between the two of them. The feeling was still gnawing at his being on the way back to his apartment. Red Hood, the light hearted jokester, the one who needed to be restrained, a smiling pillar to the magnifying glass that was Bruce and Dick, was lonely. The question was: is he lonely enough to leave? The answer is yes. Jason is tried of being the second thought, he’s tired of having to report in, and he’s tired of the way the voices take up space in his mind when there’s no company to talk to.

Paris, be prepared. Red is coming to your city and it’s going to become a color of change. Red will paint the streets. Red is going to cause Hawkmoth to rethink if his antics are really worth the price tag that follows.

the do's and don'ts of tagging maribat content

if any of you follow me, you've probably seen that I just had a back-and-forth argument with a maribat anti whose primary reasons for attacking our fandom was that we weren't tagging properly.

blocking the maribat tag is useless if people tag their maribat works with tags used for solely dc or mlb works, because they'll show up anyway when people browse those other tags.

because of this, I've decided to write up the do's and don'ts of tagging maribat content on tumblr.

do:

- tag the crossover. maribat, mlb x dc, or any variation thereof, is perfectly okay, and it'll help more maribat readers find your fic!

Why I Ship MariBat & Why I Don’t Think It Makes Me A Bad Person (An Almost  Essay)

I want to start this post with a disclaimer: I do not speak on behalf of all MariBat fans and am in no way trying to. I just feel like as someone who is a part of the Miraculous fandom as a whole, I sometimes feel like I have to justify why I like MariBat. All I’m trying to do here to explain my personal reasons for liking it and not in any way hate on anyone who doesn’t.

1. How I Got Into The Fandom & Why I Stayed

I can’t really tell you the exact place it started. I think I was just looking through MLB fanfiction on AO3 and Tumblr and slowly started noticing Damian Wayne popping up more and more. I actually had to Google who he was and that’s when I found out that apparently there were a lot more Robins than Dick Grayson. MariBat fanfiction actually made me fall in love with Batman and maybe the DCU as a whole. I recently binged the entire New-52 animated movies to learn about Damian Wayne and trust me as soon as comic books stores reopen, I’ll be there. I just found I was really fascinated by the BatFam and really liked the possibilities that stemmed from having them interact with Marinette. From a Miraculous standpoint, the scope of MLB’s story is still pretty small and at this point still pretty much limited to just the city of Paris even if season three expanded it a bit. So having DC x MLB crossovers adds in this really cool aspect of other superheroes and widens the possibilities. 

2. Why Salt Doesn’t Bother Me 

Oh, boy am I hesitant to go there but I can’t ignore the biggest complaint I see against MariBat shippers. So again, not here to speak on behalf of all salt-lovers, but here’s why I like to read salt or why I don’t get personally offended by people who write salt. As someone who deals with anxiety, I find myself using salt as an outlet sometimes. I see salt kind of like an exaggerated portrayal of things that people like me find to be frustrating. So let me give a specific example. When Alya doesn’t believe Marinette’s claims about Lila lying, as someone who struggled with similar situations between friends, I found reading stories where Lila’s bullying of Marinette was blatantly obvious and seeing how her classmates react to it to be a form of relief since the show has yet to resolve the tension in the class and have Marinette be believed. Do I actually think her classmates are as bad as some stories portray them? No! However, the differences are so apparent that I have no trouble setting apart canon-behavior and how the author writes the character. FanFiction is FanFiction. Any character can be turned into a monster and any monster can be written in a better light in FanFiction. People do it all the time. My love for the source material doesn’t change because I read salt, okay? It’s just a matter of knowing what’s canon and what’s fanfiction;.

3. Adrien In The MariBat Fandom

If there’s one argument I can’t really fault the anti-MariBat people for having, it’s this one. Sexual assault and harassment are serious topics and I can in no way fault people for being upset when they feel it’s being portrayed in the wrong manner. I guess I just want to reiterate my previous points that just because a character is portrayed a certain way in a fanfic doesn’t mean that character is also like that in canon and salt often deals with exaggerated (I don’t know if that’s the right word for it) or amplified behavior. I don’t think Cat Noir’s flirting in canon is actually harrassment and any stories I’ve read that portray him in that light have all illustrated the problem being more serious that, such as him not stopping when Ladybug says no (which she doesn’t in canon) or him pushing for dates after being repeatedly refused. Just because that’s a version of Adrien in a fanfic doesn’t mean the readers see canon Adrien to be like that. Personally, I love Adrien. I ship Adrienette as well. I can just separate the different ways he’s portrayed in stories. [Gotham City is a dark place and the BatFam, especially Damian has a dark backstory so there has to be some OOC writing to meld that with the bright, happy place of MLB’s Paris. For example, some stories do this by describing the mental strain the people of Paris might have to deal with in order to avoid being akumatized which I also find to be an interesting concept in MLB fanfiction.] Lastly, I would just like to point out that not every MariBat fanfic makes him out to be evil. There are just as many that show Adrien being a supportive friend. Again, it comes down to how the writer portrays him and whether you read that story is up to you. 

~ My Point Or The Bottom Line ~

What you ship or don’t ship is your choice and doesn’t have any bearing on if you’re a “true fan”. Again, if you don’t like MariBat, that’s okay! I just hope you can say the same to the people who do! MariBat has made my life a lot bearable these last few months and I love interacting with the other people with me in this fandom. I also love Adrienette (actually Lukanette too and MariGami and a lot more) and the Miraculous fandom as a whole and I really don’t want my love of MariBat to isolate me. I see myself becoming more and more invested in the Batman fandom too so I don’t want to have to always defend my personal ships when everybody has the right to like what they like. Okay? I’m all for friendly discussions but I don’t want to be shamed for what I like. No matter what you ship (As long as it’s legal), you are welcome on my blog and to be my friend! Thank you to anyone who read any of this essay! Man, this is long!

I usually do, though I feel I never have anything interesting to say. However, I’ve gotten into some great conversations with readers <3

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Probably Before I Go and Ad Perpetuam Memoriam as both strongly imply MCD in their endings. I prefer ambiguous/open-ended endings that strongly lean into angst. Not sure why.  

What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

Crushing My Pride is a mostly fun, sexy romp about two stubborn women who finally acknowledge their mutual attraction to one another. It does have its angsty moments but I feel the stakes are a lot lower compared to my other fics. 

Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve written?

Technically, Detroit Become Cyberpunk is a crossover as a few Cyberpunk 2077 characters make an appearance in the fic. I think all of my FF dot Net fics are also crossovers between Disney and Dreamworks. Perhaps the craziest is The Adventures of Marvelous Honeybee and Loup Gris because this is a Disney/Dreamworks crossover set in the Miraculous Ladybug universe in Paris. A crossover in an AU. Fun times. 

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I think I have more than a few hate comments on FF dot net and it’s from people who actively seek out ships they don’t like and leave hateful comments. I don’t get notifications for FF dot Net so I haven’t kept up with my works on there. 

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes. I’ve written het, w|w, and m|m smut. Mostly consensual. Some one-shots, others plot-relevant. I’m not really sure what exactly I should be answering for ‘what kind’ XD

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I’m aware of.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! Check out Sir Pawcelot for some of my Bad Decisions fics translated into Russian!

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

In high school, I did. I haven’t ever since. 

What’s your all-time favorite ship?

Difficult to say. I think I’d surprise everyone by listing Remy/Rogue (X-Men) as my all-time favorite but it’s a pairing I’ve loved since I was a kid and my love for Rogue is what got me into comic books when I was a child. Harley/Ivy also hold a very special place in my heart. 

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I have a DC comics inspired Tina-centric fic. Tina quits the DPD to become a full-time vigilante and is recruited by the Birds of Prey (led by Chloe) to stop a cat burglar (North) whose been stealing from Detroit’s wealthiest. I think I wrote about 23k before giving up on it. It had Gavin as a major side character, an anti-vigilante detective hellbent on capturing and unmasking Batman (RK900) and some fun moments with playboy billionaire Dick Stern. The ideas are there but the motivation isn’t, especially when I have other writing projects I’ve been working on.

What are your writing strengths?

Narrative, I suppose. Characterization? Not sure. 

What are your writing weaknesses?

Action sequences, dialogue. 

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I prefer it. If a character is speaking a foreign language, include the line. The reader isn’t supposed to understand it because the character whose perspective you’re writing from doesn’t understand it. I think it adds more to the scene to allow the readers and the characters to be confronted by the same barriers in dialogue. But I’m also someone who’s spent most of my adult life living in countries where English isn’t the main language so coming across foreign languages in fics has never bothered me.

Backstory: Her parents are highly known bakers in the Orlais. The bakery is known to be the Divine Justinia’s favorite bakery, even dropping by for a random visit here and there. This came into play when everyone planned on having the family come to the conclave to cater the event.

Backstory: The son of a nobleman who wanted to keep him away from the outside world. Despite this, Adrien had managed to run away to join the Templars at a young age. He got into some… trouble when his best friend helped his friend got messed up with the Hero of Ferelden. Then once again when he got transferred to a new place… and dealt with the Hero of Kirkwall.

He doesn’t have the best of luck. However, throughout this, he managed to rise through the ranks and was asked by none other than the right hand of Divine to join the Inquisition.

Instead of fretting over designs, business deals or becoming the man as we know him as, gave everything up. Giving up the limelight to be there for his wife and their unborn son. 

For Gabriel, nothing is more important than family... 

Emilie Agreste remained hospitalized after giving birth to Adrien Agreste and shortly fell into a coma. Gabriel had to take on several odd jobs to pay off the hospital and to provide for his son. One of those jobs ended up being a delivery man for the Dupain-Cheng bakery.

Summary: Ms Bustier assigns each of the students to do a report on someone they know, with a presentation at the end. They need to pick someone to report on, learn about their daily life, interview at least three people close to them, and then do a presentation on that person when the project is due in two weeks (arbitrary time limit is arbitrary). When Alya comments that it’s too bad that the restrictions mean a report on Ladybug is probably out of the question, Marinette suggests Ladybug’s best friend as a substitute. Alya can interview Lila’s parents as one source, Rose can probably connect her for a short Q&A with Prince Ali about someone who’s done so much for his charities, and Alya can even justify asking Ladybug some questions for the project this way!
