#4x02 missing scene

I do love the first "shop-talk" scene in 4x02:

and not just because it effortlessly, primally occurs in THE KITCHEN MY SPECIAL INTEREST (and it's a late-night kitchen-talk at that... how intimate!) There's just... so much more to this scene that I want to ramble about!

First, there's something so adorably "big brother" about Dean taking the floor while Sam gets the couch:

But in terms of symbols...

In this dreamscape, the living room represents a known place. It’s a familiar territory, a space shaped by childhood and the daily rhythms of a little brother Dean knows like his own heartbeat.

In this shot with Sam, we see "an open window" and the clearly lit figure of the kid Dean grew up with—(well raised, really).

Here, Dean knows the rules. He knows how to move, how to deflect, how to care. He knows his mission. His role. His scripted lines.

BUT

Here, the kitchen is different. Murkier. It’s not representing the known rhythms of childhood. It's an emerging, liminal, domestic space.

The windows are flanked by shutters, filtering the light. There’s no clear view to be had... only silhouettes and suggestion. (This is the space of adulthood. Of individuation. Rawness, fear, and confusion abound!)

Unlike their first meeting, Cas doesn’t burst in with wings and thunder. He stands still. Quiet. Mysterious. Secretive? A stranger, yes—but one who already sees Dean in ways that unsettle him.

And ofc, this isn’t just a conversation. It’s a visitation—a mythic moment that happens while Dean is vulnerably caught between states: sleep and waking, safety and fear, childhood and transformation.

Cas is imposing, a low-level threat presence, but he waits for Dean to approach.

Aaaaaaaaaand

CAS: Excellent job with the witnesses.

Cas opens with shop talk. It’s clinical. Detached. The tone is 10000% at odds with the intimate motif of the dark kitchen. We've somehow launched straight into the "We raised you out of Hell for work," vibes, like Dean is a mission parameter, not a person.

But it’s not cruelty—it’s just his angelic default. It’s how Cas knows how to speak. Orders. Objectives.

War room briefings.

And Dean seems… strangely betrayed by this.

Not because Cas has done something obviously cruel, but because of what’s missing—human warmth, care, acknowledgment. (You were hip to all this? You did nothing? You?)

Dean is offended, even affronted—but beneath that, he’s clearly craving some kind of warmth.

Who knows why he expects it?

And then—Cas fidgets. Just barely. A shift. A pause.

There's this little "uh" that slips out in his answer. It's such a small thing, but in context, it's HUGE. Dean asked something direct—accusatory, maybe even vulnerable—and Cas can't seem to give a clean answer:

CAS: I was, uh, made aware.

Dean reacts bigly.

What’s endlessly fascinating about this moment to me is that his sense of betrayal seems soooo genuinely emotional. His pivot to sarcasm—"Well, thanks a lot for the angelic assistance"—quickly escalates into something almost childlike: "I almost got my heart ripped out of my chest!"

First, the line reads like an appeal: "Don’t you care that I was in danger? *I* was in danger!" It reads like he's low-key fishing for a reaction, testing whether Cas felt any way about that fact.

Second, his body language zeroes in on his own chest—his heart. He gestures forcefully, repeatedly. It’s not just verbal—it’s visceral, almost like his body is trying to say what his words can’t: Don't you care? Don’t you feel? I'm hurt. Worry about me!!!!

And Cas?

Cas answers with a flat, "But you didn't."

It’s even. Unbothered. It lands like a brush-off, like he’s reducing Dean’s very real, very human fear to a statistical non-event.

You’re overreacting. That’s the subtext Dean picks up here.

Which of course causes Dean to get even more huffy:

DEAN: "I thought angels were supposed to be guardians—fluffy wings, halos—you know, Michael Landon. Not dicks."

And well. It's another appeal, really. Dean's saying, "I thought you were supposed to protect us. Protect me."

But also it's so funny because Dean is low-key insulting him. He's of course testing Cas—feeling him out, trying to see if Cas even CARES, but it's so hilarious, too. They're already sniping!

Cas remains stubbornly even. Stoic. Hard.

CAS: "Read the bible. I'm a soldier."

(It reads like: "So what if I AM a dick, Dean? What then? Beware. I'm cruel. I'm warning you. THIS is what I am.")

But I love how Dean remains obstinate nevertheless. ("Yeah? A soldier, huh? Why didn’t you fight?") And Cas doesn't give. ("I’m not here to perch on your shoulder.")

Their attitudes clash, beat for fucking beat!!!! Cas sways forward aggressively, squaring up like he's starting to get a bit ruffled by Dean’s testing: "We had larger concerns."

Excuses, excuses.

It spirals further as Dean starts mining for more—emotional—information. "Concerns? There were people getting torn to shreds down here!”

Again, he's in a coded way feeling out if Cas cares about PEOPLE: "Don't you care?"

(Don't you care don't you care don't you CARE?)

Because here's the kicker: There’s something about Cas that makes Dean suspect he does.

Maybe it’s the way Cas holds himself. Or when he chooses to look away—shame, maybe?—or maybe just how Cas settles his breathing when challenged. (Cas stiffens and digests things in ways that read like guilt.)

Whatever it is, Dean picks up on those small signs and it TOTALLY emboldens him to keep hurling his emotions at him!

The conversation goes even deeper after that, lurching into dangerous territory for both, territory about values and Faith.

DEAN: “And by the way, while all this is going on, where the hell is your boss, huh? If there is a God? ... I’m not convinced. Because if there is a God, what the hell is he waiting for, huh?”

And throughout this entire exchange, Cas’s doubts are visible in his body language.

Frankly, I think that’s what gives Dean the courage to push so hard. It’s like he sees through the armor, maybe thinking to himself: "Jeez, maybe this angel doubts all this bullshit, too."

Unfortunately for Dean, when Dean breaks, he breaks wide open.

DEAN: "What the hell is he waiting for, huh? Genocide? Monsters roaming the earth?" This is very raw. "The freaking apocalypse? At what point does he lift a damn finger? And help the poor bastards that are stuck down here?"

For some reason—some maddening, magnetic reason, whether it’s the nonverbal cues or recently dying and going to Hell or whatever—it just cracks Dean apart. Even as he’s trying to get Cas to break, to flinch, to feel, it’s Dean who’s unraveling.

Of course it’s also: At what point do YOU lift a finger? Why didn’t you help ME? I almost died. Other people DID. That’s the real question pulsing underneath Dean’s rant. He’s not just condemning Heaven. He’s confronting Cas the individual as much as his own crisis of faith and disappointment.

And Cas... Cas breaks eye contact. He has to.

Not arguing. Just… withdrawing. Retreating into formality. He defaults to a scripted line... doctrine:

At that—Dean explodes.

Why won’t Cas meet him halfway? They’re not on the same emotional wavelength at all. Dean is so frustrated!

And yet, with Dean's "So help me, I will kick your ass!" comes a turning point. Cas literally throws up his hands, and it’s beautiful because it also shows a yielding.

It's a small, rare sign that Cas is finally letting Dean’s truth reach him.

An "Okay, fine."

Dean breathes a beautiful little sigh of relief at that yielding. His shoulders relax. It felt good to get all that out.

Like maybe he feels like—oh my God, hey—maybe they actually got somewhere. Maybe now they can finally really talk.

But then!

Then, adorably, Dean’s eyes dart around in a panic.

Because Dean’s brave to a fault—but even he’s thinking, WHAT THE FUUUUUCK AM I DOING? WHAT THE FUCK DID I JUST SAY????

When Dean peeks at Cas again, it’s different.

The air between them has cleared a little bit. There’s a new kind of honesty between them now: raw, foundational, and open.

Dean feels it, and he tentatively broaches that new space. (Because Cas yields, softening just a bit nonverbally, Dean feels comfortable enough to try.)

So he moves a little closer to Cas, mirrors his body language, and speaks to him like a fellow soldier...

This shoptalk too is yet another coded appeal. It's a: "Please talk to me. Tell me something."

Cas shifts uneasily, throwing out another clipped company line: "big things afoot."

But then!!!!

Then Cas decides to tell him... what he can.

"But you need to know," is code for, "I'll tell you what I can." It functions as a bit of rationalized logic. You NEED to know, so it's okay if I tell you.

And so, they fall easily into what will become their infamous rhythm. As Dean moves forward to tentatively join Cas by the sink, Cas can’t help but lean in just a little—another subtle fidget.

They're swaying into each other's space.

As they inch closer, testing one another, the light from the blinds slices across their faces, casting all these sharp lines and shadows.

And as they test each other and throw their frustrations and emotions at one another, they see each other a little more clearly.

Happy Wednesday amazing readers and wonderful fandom :) Writers put themselves right back on course with this one. Returning to a balanced and all around amazing episode. End to End. It's been their thing this season and I'm happy to return to form with this one. The giving season continues to give with this episode.

I'm truly so satisfied with this season it's unreal. Once again can see why Eric said it's his favorite. Why they had the cast in such a social media lockdown about it. It's been worth every bit of waiting and hold out from the cast. We've been # 1 on Hulu every week it seems too. So I hope that trend continues this week with this ep. Makes me giddy to see us on top. Love to get some S8 news next month, but until then let us break down this gem of an ep shall we?

7x11 Speed

We start out with Lucy missing that sweet T.O. money already. Awww. I'll be honest I didn’t think about her losing her pay cause of stupid Seth. But it makes sense since she is now Rookie-less lol Heh I love her spending that extra money on self care. That’s the best. Also very Lucy to do so. It's fantastic. Proud of her for doing that. It's not an easy thing to do tbh.

I love her face as he hands her the file at the beginning of the scene btw LMAO Always say it's the little things I love between these two. *happy sigh* So much said in such a little glance between them. If you don't catch it you'll completely miss this cute exchange. Also it frees his hand up to look sexy af just hanging out on his duty belt. So thank you for your service Lucy ha

I will say her comment about her budget reminds me when she tried to get Aaron on one back in 5x14 LOL Tim telling her to just go to T.O. permanently then. I mean logically that makes sense. She would crush that test and then some. Tim knows it too. So that'll restore that extra money she is currently missing.

I knew she would be hesitant to do this because of losing focus on the Sergeant exam. Honestly I don't blame her. She was derailed a bit by T.O. in the first place. Although it did lead her to this Sergeant decision. Also training another rookie would take a lot of her time. Like to note even though Tim is giving her sass about training a new rookie, his body language shows that he is intently listening to her and I love it.

They're in their usual lock step as they make their way to roll call. Always floors me how they do that. Tim trying to find the words to describe Ridley and Lucy beats him to the punch. I mean he was that and more for her oh my lord. Was a hell of a first rookie for her. So can't say I fault her for being hesitant to dip her toe back in.

Hahahaha 'That is a horrifyingly high ratio.' LMAO It kinda is tbh. Not doing her any favors here love. Or convincing her to go back to being a T.O.... Lucy is firm in her decision to focus on Sergeant instead. That it'll just give her peace of mind instead of doing something else to detract.

Tim has to give her one last sassy comment before they part. 'Guess that means bye bye cleaning lady.' I love these two idiots so much I cannot stand it. Their banter is unrivaled. Ain't no one got what our ship does in just banter alone. Damnit I love these fools.

Look at Tim giving the same Sergeant speech Grey gave him so many moons ago in 4x02. to Lucy. Saying how she needs to learn to supervise from the sidelines. To delegate if she's wanting to be one. Look how far you’ve come my love. It's the little steps of growth that make my heart happy. Also loving the amount of scenes they’re having this early on in the ep. I knew was gonna be a good one.

Like a gift after last week's low amount and unbalanced ep. I LOVE him letting her practice being a Sergeant. To call the shots today. Like an advanced version of PCD for her. Lucy getting excited and pushing her luck like only she can do with him. Asking if that means she gets to drive? Tim sensing this and shutting it down. Naturally he wouldn’t let her drive haha Her face. So rare when he allows it. hehe These two dopes just low key flirting most of this episode.

Angela calling Tim 'Timothy' on the radio LOL Telling him not to be such an ass. I love this episode. Only two women he would allow to be that forward with him are in this convo. Lucy being wifey af rips the radio from his hands and he allows it. Cause well it's Lucy.

Of course she has a good idea. I mean selling stuff suckkkksss. Especially when it has value, but if it saves a job you love it’s worth it. Also loving all the hand touching with the back and forth of the radio. Don’t think I didn’t notice that you two...Bickering like an old married couple as they advise poor Miles.

Hahahaha look at the growth in our boy. Calling himself an ass when Lucy calls him out for his comment. Fantastic. Although I always enjoy his pot shots at Nolan LOL (Sorry John you have been much better this season) This new Tim delights me to no end every week in so many ways I cannot even tell you.

I'm a happy girl. As is Lucy. She has a smile for days for Tim this entire episode. Look at her when he says his line. Couldn't love that man more if you tried my friend. Seeing that change in him and loving it.

Oh my, Tim calling her Sergeant Chen. *fans self* That did things to me holy cow. Loved hearing him call her that. Also the confidence she is exuding when he does. Letting her lead this entire operation. Not questioning a single thing she does either. How far we have come fandom. How far we have come. Always love watching her be a friggin kick ass leader when given the chance.

Oh Lucy you are so much more of a BAMF than you ever give yourself credit for. I love how Tim doesn’t allow the pot shots at herself. Refuses to let her sit in that for even a moment. Reminds her of how she saved him back in 6x10. That SHE IS a bad ass. Making her smile with his sass. 'You're right....Totally lame.' God I love s7 Tim fandom. I can totally cross off 'Seeing a new side of Tim Bradford.' off my bingo card confidently.

Look at her smile. He did that. By building her up. Not letting a single second go by without him reminding her how amazing she is. Also Lucy you would've jumped even if there had been ten bombs. Why? Because it was Tim you were jumping to my girl. Just adore her smile after he makes his playful joke. She is melting everyone. Slowly but surely. Especially with moments like this. Keeping showing up for her babe. She is noticing and liking what she sees.

One of the best parts of the episode right here. Let us begin to dissect this glorious shop scene. Let me start with the 5x08 vibes I was getting from this scene. Some of their best moments are in a shop together. Most truthful and honest moments. Love when they have pod car eps. We always get such good scenes from it. Iconic ones.

Their body language alone is enough to make my shipper heart happy. The way they check in on each other when the other isn't looking. Gah I love these idiots in love. The heart eyes are plentiful in this scene. First off let me say I'm so glad she crushed being a Sergeant. Not at all like her detective run. No complaints from Tim. Came naturally to her. 'Ordering around people is one of your gifts.' The man isn't wrong....

'I've never heard you complain.' LOL Lucy Friggin Chen. Oh my lord The subtext in that line had my head spinning. ZERO doubt in my mind Tim ever had issues with her bossing him around. At work, In their relationship, In the bedroom... Where I am sure this flirty line stemmed from. That's just my opinion though....The flirtatious nature of that line and his devilishly happy smile right afterwards proving that IMO. ‘I don’t mind.’ Heh he sure doesn’t….This man is all giddy smiles most of this scene. Making me lightheaded with shippy joy. He is glowing in this first portion. The man couldn't be more in love with her if he tried. Or be happier to be in this light flirty place with her.

Lucy is getting flustered af with Tim's forward flirting. His smiles and not holding back at all. Letting her know he is A-OK with her flirting with him. Transparent Tim is sending her into a tailspin in the best way. It's making me insanely happy. He is just being candid with her and she is feeling it. Has no where to go but face the music in this moment. This woman just navigated a potential bus bombing as a Sergeant no sweat and it's the man to her left that is her undoing.

Once again, he is all smiles as she tries to steer her way out of this flirty situation she's put them in. His cute 'No idea.' I cannot. Also ‘Just co-workers’ my ass Lucy Chen. You will never ever be just that. Tim is enjoying this ramble so very much as she stumbles her way to her point. I think it is HUGE she is letting Tim know she’s not looking to date or has any interest in doing so. And of course he has zero himself. Man is a walking 'I love Lucy Chen' Billboard.

Has been all season and will continue to be as such. Now we all knew this. (If you didn't then this scene will help resolve that pretty quickly) Knew there was no way these two would go looking for anyone else. They are each other's endgame. But just like Tim going to therapy and working on himself. Getting the actual proof of hearing it makes it so satisfying. Just like it was in 7x07. Physically hearing them say it is literal ship crack right now. Hearing the confirmation from the both of them is EVERYTHING. We are headed in the right direction people.

Lucy continues on with her 'boundaries.' They need to have. Which they do need to have until this is truly sorted. Till they have that talk. Tim letting her know he respects them and will continue to meet her where she is at. Which he has done a masterful job of throughout the season. Never pushing her or trying to get her to talk more than she is ready to. Respecting what she wants to give him and thriving off of that. Continually showing up for her. Which has led up to this wonderful moment. Lucy reminding Tim that she still hasn’t fully forgiven him yet. As she should honestly.

That’s a deep wound he needs to remember he caused, and it remains ever-present. One he still needs to fix. That they're getting there but it's not quite healed yet. His soulful ‘I know.’ Is everything. Eric getting me right in the damn feels with it. It's very loaded with emotion and heavy. He is extremely aware he still has ground to make up with her. Penance still to be had. I love that he knows it and is telling her as such. They're being so open and vulnerable I wanna cry with this progress. Lucy’s reply is wonderful. Saying When not IF but WHEN she does. This is massive. We all knew she would get there. Because it's who she is to forgive of course.

But also she is seeing the change in Tim. How consistent it is. That it's not going away. There hasn't been an episode this season he hasn't shown that change to her. She still loves this man so much and he is slowly making his way back in. So much so that she is saying 'When' instead of If. The shift here is monumental. Her following it up with 'Maybe you can come help me study.' The subtext is unreal. It’s quite the olive branch. His smile is so cute and he is delirious with joy. He couldn't be happier with this reply. Keep putting in the work babe. This is the result. Heart eyes abound at the end oh my lord. Look at these two. Eric and Melissa convey SO much with just their heart eyes. I'm flying high.

If that final scene wasn't enough. That PROMO. OH. MY. LORD. Just coming by with flimsy excuses, just to have her way with him whenever she damn well pleases? Ok! Sign me up haha. He sure as hell is not gonna say no. Clearly. They messy and I don't hate it. Especially after that final scene. Also Lucy showing up looking like a bombshell. Holy hell. How could he say no? I mean she could show up wearing a paper bag and he would be panting after her. Let's be honest.

But legit her goal from that 5 seconds we got was to come and seduce him. I don't know what's going on or what is prompting this scene but I'm excited. Feral Caitlin is going to make an appearance if we're getting Half naked Tim in sweatpants at home. and he looks GOOOOD. Phew lord. I love this season everyone. Every week is a friggin joy. My happy place truly delivering in so many ways.

Am I crazy to think both Nat and Carmy self-sabotage in similar ways? We have talked about Carmy going to apologize to Claire after things in the restaurant start to grow (and after dreaming about Sydney making her dish). So, in 4x02, Nat is about to send a random "I miss you" to her ex-situationship? I remember seeing that scene and thinking, "Please be so for real..." She says she is so happy it's scary, she loves her husband, but she just had a baby, which is also something she is terrified about, so she gets allured into Francine again...yeah.

I'm glad she got closure, she seemed really hurt about the way things ended (probably just not being able to speak to each other and assume one hated the other).I was surprised she was thinking about it now, especially in the context of something she wants but is really scared of. Not that I think she could ever cheat on Pete (even though emotional cheating is..a thing). But I find it similar to Carmy running full speed into Claire when he also had to build a "home" and "family" with Syd.

Also, Francine gave me Donna's vibes; maybe that’s just me, she seems okay, she is definitely not manipulative as Claire is, but definitely fight-prone. In the original scripts, Claire was supposed to be blonde, and Francine is blonde, so...both Cramy and Nat are dating through their mommy issues?

i might be totally wrong but they said ben died to free big alice and they didn’t have any breach suits on board for the manual override, but… ben had to go on the other side, on snowpiercer, in order to free big alice, i think he even discussed the issue of crossing into enemy territory in the scene with till, and he is actually on the other side when she runs to him, and… they do have breach suits on snowpiercer? i guess they would, as was shown in 4x02 and also considering they’re still spending a month on the tracks between stops at the silo and could need them, especially if they’re retrofitting the train.

so what the fuck? was he just too lazy to bother looking for one or particularly eager to die?

please tell me i missed something and they didn’t sacrifice for shock value a good character, one half of the long-standing main most stable ship of the show and the possibility of a family dynamic with mel and alex that actually sees the three of them in the same environment and scene for more than 15 seconds (+ the ending of mel’s heartbreak and loss for just one second of her already very slim screentime)

i'm drunk enough to think about nick again (not that it like, hurts to think about him anymore i think that heartbreak is solved) and godDAMMN they really buried a man alive on network television and then went the extra mile to make him get EATEN ALIVE AND then almost k*ll himself and WHAT I WOULDN'T GIVE to watch this in an IMAX theater, being buried alive is the ultimate Horror Trope for me and it happened on the one character that takes the cake, that changed my life forever like there has been characters that have impacted my life that i think made me better as a person but nick stokes is on a whole nother fucking level and it all started with this episode where he gets kidnapped and buried and i distinctly remember what it was like watching it for the first time, knowing that he survives cause he obviously shows up in episodes after this one and i started watching csi with re-runs of season 4 on spike tv but also the live season 6 finale where nick was clearly okay and cracking jokes even at a scene about severed heads (god bless him) but one day spike tv showed this episode and i stomped into the living room after part 1 ended almost yelling at my dad like ARE YOU KIDDING ME HOW DOES HE SURVIVE THAT BUT HE'S NICK FUCKING STOKES SO OF COURSE HE DOES AND i've never been that close to the knife or bullet in my life but have had..............idealiziations myself and sometimes, just sometimes, i remember how he was at the end of his rope, he waited until the last fucking second like think of a fucking saw trap he would fucking dominate that because he's nick stokes and he doesn't give up, he doesn't believe in past lives cause he's just fucking trying to get through this one and he's been though so fucking much between the fucking babysitter and stalker and gunpoint and being buried alive? ok yeah just another day in the office for him, he fights like hell, he resists his own temptations, he has so much belief in his co-workers, his mentor aka former boss that they'll find him that he hangs on for almost 24 hours in this goddamn coffin designed to torture him, sure, he can stay alive with the provided fan (something that honestly this year, i've have instilled myself when i go to bed) but the fan's gonna die and can they find him before that fan runs out? not fucking likely but TV magic unbeknownst to him they DO cause otherwise lmao nick stokes woulda died in the season 5/15 finale and i probably would have stopped right there even though grissom was my fav at first NICK STOKES STOLE MY HEART and even in my darkest hours i'll think of him, as if a ghostly image of him shows up in the mirror, "i survived why can't you?" motherfucker this is mY BOY stronger than any character i've ever related to--obviously nick and i have had different lives and he's so much stronger and better than me in so many ways but i guess he's what i aspire to be (albeit with a bit less...ignorance but nick is def the type who like. learns his lesson, he matures out of old prejudices which i admire SO MUCH of him) and i don't think i could have had such a strong role model in my formative years cause i started watching csi in 7th grade cause a real forensic scientist came to our school and of course, mentioned how CSI was not real but it piqued my curiosity and it possibly sparked my interest in horror to a degree cause my first episode was a horrifically bloated body (4x02 to be exact, assume nothing nick) and as a 7th grader up until that point even though 9/11 had passed (i was in like. 4th/5th grade that point) i guess i didn't know how cruel people could be but nick showed and continues to show me that people have the capactity of enduring the worst horrors this world can inflict on a person and they can still come out on top, they can still be the hero, they can still save themselves as well as others and FUCK man i miss nick stokes

4x02 – My Oldest Daughter thoughts

Um OK… Frank has another daughter. One who he knew about but has never had any contact with. I’m not shocked he has another kid and and if she’s older than Fiona then she probably pre-dates his Monica relationship. What a secret to keep! I wonder what she’s like?!

Lip really isn’t taking advantage of the college life. I get he has to work through college, lots of kids do. But not interacting with the other students and only studying for 15 minutes before the exam? Lip, my sweet ignorant Southside brat. Learn some time management!

He’s surrounded by people who want to make something of themselves. They have ambition and the smarts. Lip’s not really appreciating that yet. I like his fish out of water plot but I’m wondering how much steam it has under it.

I think Lip might be missing Ian a bit too. They’re not just brothers, they’ve been best friends.

Kev gets the Alibi! OMG that’s awesome! And probably going to come with some set backs. Bring it on!

Three babies? Kev and V are gonna have three babies? That’s a damn litter!

I’m not really sure what’s going on with Debbie but she’s certainly in a rush to grow up.

Fiona seems to be thriving in this job so I’m fully expecting something to blow up at some point.

Mike is odd in that he’s just so damn normal… I feel like the gender stereotypes have been flipped a little with Fiona and Mike. He’s needy about her calling/not calling, she’s quite blasé about the whole thing.

Every scene with Frank presents a new symptom of liver failure. Bless Carl for trying to help but I don’t think this is gonna get better without medical intervention which would probably be a transplant, right?

Summary: Peter drags Neal down to the beach for a heart to heart.

Notes: This fulfills two squares on my White Collar bingo card: missing scene and on the run. I wrote this in about a half hour, it's not poetry but it was a lot of dialogue stuck in my head and I needed it in the wild. (You can also read on AO3 here!)

“Give it to me straight suit – is he gonna be okay in New York?”

“Neal? Yeah.” Peter paused, watching Neal dozing in a lounge chair with a bag of ice draped over his leg. “Yeah. He’ll...I’ll make sure he’s okay.”

“Because you told him to run,” Mozzie continued as if Peter hadn’t spoken a word. “You told him to go.”

“Yeah, I did...and you, Mozzie, you stole the treasure. Don’t forget your hand in all of this.”

Mozzie huffed out something under his breath about pointing fingers while he poured the remainder of a bottle of wine into his not quite empty glass. They’d already been through this once or twice, it was just that time was ticking and Mozzie was getting nervous. He couldn’t let Neal go if he wasn’t absolutely sure that Peter was going to take care of him. If anything happened to Neal, he would never forgive himself and he had to believe without a doubt that Peter felt the same. He’d already been shot on their watch, and he really wanted it to end there.

“You promise you’ll keep him safe?”

“I promise I’ll do everything I can.”

Peter sighed and began cleaning up the mess of bottles still sitting out on top of their makeshift bar. He wasn’t feeling overly confident in this plan, in any part of it, and he couldn’t figure out how to change that. He’d spent the day mixing and pouring drinks until he knew everything by heart and yet still something eluded him – perhaps it was the same thing that was eating at Mozzie.

Neal.

Their plan was going to be a success, they were going to get on that plane and they were going to head back to New York and then what? How did he keep Neal in New York? How did he keep Kramer from turning him into the FBI’s pet for life? The idea of it made him sick to his stomach. He stood on those steps and he made damn sure Neal ran, and then he searched for him like a fool and led them right here. He wasn’t doing a very good job of keeping Neal safe so far and had some doubts as to whether he could at all.

Mozzie settled in with a book and his wine, planning on ignoring Peter probably for the better part of the night by the looks of it. They’d had their fill of one another, Mozzie was a solitary creature and needed time to be alone with his thoughts. He was, after all, about to be alone in the wind. Neal was returning but he was not.

“Neal,” Peter said, approaching the half-asleep man. “Walk with me.”

Without opening his eyes, Neal groaned. “In case you forgot, walking isn’t really my thing at the moment…”

“Come on. I’ll carry you, princess. Let’s go down to the beach.”

“You can’t carry me, you would throw your back out.”

“Then walk. Come on Neal, I want to talk.”

Neal sat himself up and slid his legs carefully off of the lounge chair, reaching for Peter’s outstretched hand when it came time to get upright. His knee was stiff, his entire leg swollen and painful, but Peter ducked under his arm and supported the majority of his weight while they made their way down to the beach with little trouble. Neal couldn’t talk, his concentration so intensely focused on keeping himself moving forward that a sheen of sweat broke out on his brow. It was worse at night, he would argue, but maybe that was just in his head.

“Stupid suit,” Mozzie muttered under his breath as he watched Peter drag Neal down to the beach.

The sand was so bright that Peter couldn’t help feeling like he was walking on the surface of the moon with every hard fought step. He wanted to get closer to the water. It called him as it crashed against the shore and lapped at the sand like it was thirsty. “We can stop here,” Peter said finally, panting and tired from the short trek. Neal wasn’t able to bear much weight on his leg, perhaps the trip down to the beach wasn’t his brightest decision but it was so serene down here he thought it might be worth it in the end.

Slowly he helped Neal ease himself down into the soft sand and took a seat beside him.

“It’s been years since I’ve been on vacation,” he started, staring out at the horizon painted in inky black and stardust.

“This is a vacation?”

Peter laughed. “No. Vacations don’t usually involve my friends getting shot. I’m really sorry about that, by the way.”

“Why? You didn’t shoot me.”

A seagull landed in front of them, stark white and glowing in the moonlight, hunting through the sand for something to eat. They watched the bird for a moment as if in a trance, neither wanting to speak, to disturb it in its hunt, but the conversation picked up where it left off as soon as the bird flew away satisfied with its coverage of their small plot of land. As if they too were birds huddled around some treasure instead of two men trying to mend something that was broken. Peter spoke as if there had been no interruption.

“No, I didn’t shoot you, but we spent the night waiting for you, and there you were...we should have known something was wrong.”

Neal shrugged and rubbed mindlessly at his stiff knee joint. The pain from the wound itself was minimal, it was the angry swelling that radiated out from the wound that was causing the most trouble. An irritation, more or less. He couldn’t walk but he wasn’t going to die...unless Dobbs caught on to him and he couldn’t get away. As it stood, he was going to have to find a way to climb a tree which, at the moment, seemed about as impossible as sprouting wings and flying.

“Is that why you brought me down here? Because you wanted to tell me you felt guilty? You could have done that up there.”

“No. No, I just...wanted a few minutes alone. To talk to you. I’m the reason you’re in this mess, I never should have told you to run. It was a mistake.”

“So you think the right thing was for me to have my commutation denied so I could be Kramer’s pet criminal for the rest of my life? Because that’s where he wanted me, Peter.”

“No, of course I don’t...Neal I don’t know what the right answers are anymore. The lines are so blurry. Everything used to be so easy, so black and white, and then you came and you splashed gray on everything.”

“The world is gray, Peter. Nothing is black and white. Your rules aren’t always right, they’re just a way for people to try to control the chaos of life. Kramer thinks he’s righteous, he thinks he’s right because he’s upholding the law but he wants to keep me on a leash for life to make him look good. How can that be right?”

“That’s a little dramatic…”

“Is it?”

“He thinks he can have what we have, but he can’t Peter. He can’t because he’s not you. I do what I do for you because I…” Neal stopped, sucking in a quick breath. His chest had grown tight. “I do it because I love you Peter. You’re family. I don’t do it because I believe in the FBI, I do it because I believe in you.”

“You could believe in Kramer too.”

“No, I couldn’t, because he doesn’t treat me like I’m a person. You’re the only one at the FBI who doesn’t treat me like I’m a commodity or a criminal. You’re the only one who believes I can change.”

“And look where that got me.”

“Peter, I didn’t take the treasure. I had no intention of taking it. Sure, when I saw it I was tempted but wouldn’t you be? Just a little? Don’t tell me I’m the only one who sees beautiful things of high value and thinks...why them and not me?”

“Alright, you’re not wrong...there have been times. But I’ve never acted on it and you have.”

“So I’m always going to be defined by my past? Is there no hope for me?”

“I’m not saying that.”

“What are you saying?”

“I’m just saying that once you cross that line, it’s harder to come back. Not impossible, I believe you are coming back, but I also believe that the temptation is always going to be there. It’s going to be a battle until the end of your days.”

Neal nodded and turned away before Peter could see the tears in his eyes, even in the dark he knew they would be pretty damn obvious.

“Neal,” Peter said, scooting closer and putting his arm around the man. “I know you’re trying, and this setback is my fault. I’m going to fix it.”

“Best case scenario, I get my anklet back.”

“No, Neal, best case scenario I get my partner back. Best case scenario my friend comes home. ”

The Righteous Gemstone, Ep. 4x02 – You Hurled Me Into the Depth, Into the Very Heart of the Seas (Spoilers)

Like what happened with season 2 and 3, we’re having a catch-up episode; finding out what’s going on since we last saw the family.  I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t a fan of this episode.

Probably had something to do with Baby Billy swinging his dick around in full view of his niece and nephews.  In the first five minutes of the episode.  Also, I think it’s just the joke of the three spoiled kids is just running too thin at this point.

Anyway, it’s getting to be that time of year where they have the annual telethon in honor of Amiee-Leigh’s birthday.  This year, the grand finale involves the three siblings flying in jet packs.  But Jesse isn’t too good with his. 

Jesse has become some sort of an inventor in the family, creating Prayer Pods that he hopes to place in places like malls and airports.  Literally places where you pay to pray.  Also, it seems like the middle son Pontius has gotten worse.  Also, Jesse is jealous that Gideon is being mentored by Eli.

Judy is upset with the fact that BJ has taken up Pole Dancing as exercise, as he’s around a lot of fit women.  Other then that, and Eli’s story, she really isn’t involved much here.

Kelvin and Keefe are running a more…inclusive part of the church.  It’s called Prism and, uh, he may have rewritten The Bible?  Yet, while Kelvin feels great that he’s found something successful for the church (in that it makes money), he doesn’t completely practice what he preaches.  He’s in a relationship with Keefe, but that relationship is not public.  They literally reference Siegfried and Roy here. 

Eli is retired and living on a boat and trying to figure out where to go next in life.  He’s even thinking about skipping the annual telethon they have during Amiee-Leigh’s birthday.  They kids…convince him to come.  And I am not going further into that scene.

But, as they are practicing for the telethon, Eli finds out that there will be a special guest at this event.  It’s Amiee-Leigh’s best friend, who totally always been there though we’ve never heard of her, Miss Lori.  And Eli and Lori start hanging out and bonding.

And, let’s just skip to the end of the episode, Eli starts to realize that he has feelings for Lori; but isn’t sure he’s ready to act on them.  But, as she about to leave, he chases after her and kisses her.  At the same time, Jesse (who, again, has been having trouble controlling his jet pack throughout the episode) suddenly can control it and is able to fly higher than his brother and sister.  Does this mean it’s time for Jesse to take control of the Church?  For really, reals this time.  Or will this be the beginning of the downfall Jesse really needs to learn some fucking humility, just like his ancestor in the first episode.  Well, the show is about to end; so maybe?

Yesss, like he stops painting himself as villainous or having this stubborn pirate's pride like this by 3b after what happened with Ariel in the missing year.

Another thing that bothers me is how they kind of have David constantly question and challenge whether he believes Killian is a changed man, a good man, or a man of honor, I think for the sake of having conflict between characters most of the time.

Like I think 4x02(?) where he asks about Killian's intentions with his daughter like a protective dad but I think it's written and framed to be like David still disapproves after everything, after Hook saved his life, helped save Henry, agreed that Zelena had backed Hook into a corner and he did the best he could and trusted him enough to go with Emma (to maybe be cannon fodder but still), and then met "Prince Charles" in the time travel s3 finale who declared his commitment to "Princess Leia" that David admonished. By early s4 I think that line should be portrayed a little more jokingly or playfully than it was, but they make it more stern in order to have an arc within the episode of Killian's worries about Emma act as proof of his love for her to David.

This happens a number of times where David is harsher on Hook for what seems like an excuse to have some more conflict between characters. And I think it only works at the level it is portrayed in the "Murder Most Foul" episode where David is clearly spiraling and in his own head about things and needs help that isn't exactly fully honest or honorable.

The most glaring instance is literally in the s6 finale where Killian and David are paired up on their little adventure in the enchanted forest trying to get back to Storybrooke and Emma. Killian has literally just married Emma, David and he are close friends. David is stressed, for sure, but when they show up at the bean stalk and calls out Killian for trying to kill Emma and Snow around the last time he was there, it's not like David doesn't know that and accepted that by now, you know? It sets up Killian for his little speech about how he and Emma's love wasn't destined and they fought for it, which is some lovely dialogue, but the set-up from David just feels kinda off at this point in the show and in their relationship. Like Killian and David literally like an episode or two ago just had that scene with Killian being unsure of the all white suit for the wedding and David asking what was wrong and if he wanted something a little more leather, like they're friends. And if every inconvenience and stressor makes David doubt and lash out at Hook, it just feels manufactured at a certain point.

David has literally gone to hell to help Emma save Killian. There's even a parallel moment between them where David says he "did it for Emma" and then admits "I guess you've grown on me a bit" like they're friiiiiiiends. David is stubborn to admit it but they're literally friends, he genuinely likes and cares about Killian. He gave Killian his blessing to ask Emma to marry him, with a giant fucking smile on his face, firmly believing that Killian has truly changed and is worthy of Emma's love. That's the highest honor this protective father can give like.

I genuinely love their friendship and the way they're kinda filling the role of each other's lost brothers, it's great. I just wish that the show didn't feel the need to force a little conflict between them when they've grown past that.

Once Upon A Time 3x05 "Good Form" my beloved, I know the text and shots and scene transitions directly parallel Hook saving David's life to Killian's loss of his brother, and Killian's pained expressions of seeing David succumb more and more to the same poison Liam did. Killian's insistence David tell his family, give them the chance to say goodbye that Killian didnt have with his brother. Of Killian himself sayinf David reminded him of Liam, his canonical hero. I know the ep's dialogue speaks of Killian's want to be seen as a man of honor, to be that man of honor.

And I know Killian would absolutely have been a deflective ass with the "I didn't do it for you" to David about saving his life, bantering teasingly that he did it for Emma like David has accused all of his actions to get to and be at Neverland as - just a selfish attempt to have Emma.

And I know Killian's half-joking flirtation with Emma later with "Is that all your father's life is worth to you?" is in character bc for his entire presence on the show previously he has used compliments of himself and flirtatious remarks as deflection, jokes, and to be actively antagonistic/inflammatory/annoying/playful.

I know all of this. I know this is all perfectly in character and the nonspoken motives informed by the flashbacks to his past and his performance are deeply in character. But christ alive I wish that a tiny little line would've been added in somewhere that made it clear that his motivations in this ep and the Neverland arc as a whole weren't just about Emma bc it feels like the writers partially forgot this in 3a, despite the strength of this episode and all its parallels. They say characters' feelings out loud or allude to them more directly in dialogue all the time like pleeeeeeease, you could've made it a lil more obvious it's not solely bc of Emma like. i just wish it wasn't easily misread if u didn't read into it deeper with Killian's characterization, beyond his contradicting words

Nicole can't believe her own eyes, wondering if this is just another dream. It's hard to say these days what is real and what is just a figment of her imagination.

But in the next second, she can feel Waverly 's body against her own. They are hugging. It feels real. It IS real.

"Are you real?"

"Are you?"

"Come here and check."

And then she kisses her slowly, with caution, still not believing her own senses. But kiss feels like home, like a reality. Like a reality they started to build together before Waverly’s ascendance to The Garden.

Nicole is overwhelmed again so she just holds her in tight hug, not planning to let her go anytime soon.

Until she feels Waverly trembling in her arms. 

“She is cold. Of course she is.”

"Let's get you inside, okay?"

Waverly just nods quietly.

They walk through the back door, hand in hand, finally feeling the warmth inside the house. They are staring at each other wordlessly and neither one of them knows what to say. They should probably talk about all of this but both of them seem to have lost an ability to speak. The air around them thickens.

Nicole feels uneasiness creeping up to her so she does the next best thing. She kisses Waverly. Hard. Deepening the kiss immediately, Nicole moves her hands to Waverly's waist pulling her closer. Waverly eagerly accepts, running her hands through Nicole’s hair and settling on the base of her nape.  Nicole starts moving them backwards until she has Waverly pressed against the wall, devouring every inch of her skin.

She stops for a second, makes an eye contact with a love of her life and finally words come out of her mouth.

"Hey, are you...?"

Waverly groans breathlessly against her lips.

"Don't stop."

He looked over to the couch, watched Carlos leaf through a magazine from the coffee table. Studied the relaxed pose, the soft smile at whatever he was reading, and wondered how the control freak in him was so calm. Absolutely nothing inside TK was calm right now. If he stood in this room much longer, he might scream. He might scream anyway.

He walked over to the back of the couch, leaning over to drop a kiss on Carlos’ head. “I am going to take a shower then go to bed.” before moving quickly to the bathroom.

He shut the door, turned on the water, removed his clothes. As he stepped into the shower, he tried to let the water wash away his trepidations, wanted to watch them go down the drain. He tried to remind himself to have faith, not to take things personally. Even if they felt incredibly personal.
