the only thing funnier to me than the potential gwaine/lancelot argument when gwaine finds out lancelot knew about merlin’s magic and he didn’t is arthur trying to butt into that conversation.

lancelot is like of course I knew. and gwaine is like?? the fuck is that supposed to mean? and then arthur says he also feels betrayed and gwaine and lancelot turn to him like

Merlin: Obviously. That’s why I brought two.

Gwaine: And he didn’t drag anyone anywhere.

Lancelot: That’s true, we came willingly.

I'm convinced Lancelot was in love with Merlin. If not romantically than a brotherly love that rivals and even surpasses Merlin and Arthur. Even if not reciprocated, it is whole and absolute. Lancelot loved Merlin exactly the way he was never expected more or less of him.

But the most painful part is the darkest hour part two dialogue.

Lancelot: I look at you and I wonder about myself. Would I knowingly give up my life for something?

Merlin: You have to have a reason. Something you care about. Something that's more important than anything.

And Lancelot does. It isn't a vow to Gwen why would he offer to bring Merlin back to Camelot and abandon Arthur if that was it? Hell, it isn't even that protecting Merlin protects Arthur because why would he try to bring a healthy Merlin home. So it's not even for the good of Camelot either.

But you can argue all the points so my strongest point is simply where lance turns away from the veil. He nods and smiles as if to say "oh, that's who is more important than anything"

He turns and reminds himself before walking into death with open arms and a smile on his face.

There is not a thing that Lancelot put above Merlin. Not his dreams of being a knight, Gwen, Arthur, or even Camelot itself and especially not himself.

Can you guys believe that some of the most influential early screenwriters and directors had to sneak queer subtext into popular media for so long that it seeped into straight screenwriters’ subconscious baseline for writing compelling characters and plot, thus, accidentally creating the the gayest non-gay television show to ever exist and that show is called BBC Merlin

Imagine being Lancelot, like-

You come to Camelot, trying to become a knight, only to meet a giant ass hypogriff on your way. You save this scrawny servant's life, and not only does the boy know the prince, he immediately commits identity fraud for you, then reveals himself a sorcerer, and everytime you see him again after you were banished, his poweres grow increasingly unhinged.

That one time he suddenly has a sword that can kill the immortals that just attacked, another time he has a dragon pet. Sometimes he talks to lake spirits or is treated by druids like a mix of a god and an eldritch horror.

It only gets worse. He's amazing, he's terrifying, you're compelled to protect him. You have no choice but to die for him.

Idk how anyone can watch Bbc Merlin and not notice the intense heart eyes everyone has for Merlin..but especially his two main bfs Arthur and Lancelot.

arthur notices merlin and lancelot’s chemistry in s1 and then merlin and gwaine’s chemistry in s3 and comes to the conclusion that merlin likes men with long hair. in completely unrelated news, arthur thinks he might look good with long hair and decides to grow it out

men in Camelot will see Merlin and be like “is anyone else gonna lay down their life for this guy in the sluttiest way possible?” and not wait for an answer

Merthur is an otp for real, but I have such tremendous respect for Merwaine and Mercelot shippers because they really went 'Merlin deserves better' and STUCK TO IT unlike an unfortunately large amount of the merthur fandom that just decided merlin should be ok with being abused as long as he has the occasional sassy oneliner.

And this is not me dragging on merthur as a ship, its my favourite too, especially when written well. Its just me remarking on the fact that love is just not enough for a healthy relationship, and too many merthur fanfics ignore that.

Arthur HAS to change.
