On September 24th, 1964, a decade after Brown v. Board of Education ruled that schools must be racially integrated, a crowd of at least 7,500 demonstrators, almost all of whom were white, marched outside New York City Hall to protest a policy aimed at increasing racial integration in the city’s public school system. The protest was organized by two groups formed by white parents: the Parents and Taxpayers Coordinating Council and the Joint Council for Better Education.
The protestors arrived at City Hall with placards to picket against the Board of Education’s decision to institute a compulsory busing program, transferring students to and from only eight elementary schools in the New York City area; four of these schools had mostly white students and four were predominantly Black.
The week prior, the same two groups of white parents sponsored a two-day school boycott at the start of the school year to protest the busing policy. During the boycott, pupil absences were more than double the usual number. The boycott resulted in the loss of $1.6 million in school aid to the New York City public school system because the aid, “intended to compensate communities with rising school populations,” was calculated on the basis of the number of students in attendance at the start of September.
Outside City Hall on September 24, the crowd carried signs that read “we’d rather fight than bus.” The executive secretary of the Parents and Taxpayers Coordinating Council, a white woman named Rosemary Gunning, argued that they were “asking only that the [City] Council take a position in favor of the traditional neighborhood school concept.” Protestors attempted to storm the City Hall after the council members inside voted to uphold the busing initiative, but they were stopped by the police.
To learn more about white Americans’ massive resistance to racial integration and civil rights, read EJI’s report Segregation in America.

On this day sixty years ago (24 September 1964) beloved ultra-kitsch TV series The Munsters premiered - a high point in Western civilization! Never make me pick between The Munsters and The Addams Family – that would be an even more agonizingly difficult decision than Sophie’s Choice! Further thoughts: The Munsters’ twangy surf instrumental theme tune is surely one of the best in television history. I have zero interest in procreating, but if I did produce offspring, the adorable werewolf son Eddie Munster (Butch Patrick) represents the ideal. And full credit to vampire matriarch Lily (Yvonne De Carlo) for rocking jet-black nail polish long before punks, goths and psychobillies adopted it years later.

Today marks the day a legend was born. Freddie Mercury, the late singer of the rock band group Queen.
Had he survived, he would have been 78 years old today.
Born September 5th, 1946, Farrokh Bulsara (also known as Freddie Mercury) in Zanzibar to Parsi parents from India. When the Zanzibar Revolution happened in 1964, he and his family fled to England. Having studied and written music for years, he formed Queen in 1970 with guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor.
His legendary performance at Wembley Stadium for Live Aid in 1985 remains one of the most enduring images of Mercury as a 72,000 strong audience sang and clapped in unison, and has been hailed as one of the greatest moments in rock history.
Freddie could sing at a range of five octaves, and boasted a powerful voice to match.
He constantly pushed the boundaries of music and perception, becoming an idol to many.
He died November 24, 1991, at the age of 45, from complications of AIDS, literally 24 hours after he finally announced he had it.
He will never be forgotten.

My theory/head-canon on how old Abed is
(Wasnt sure whether to label as head-canon or theory due to how this is mostly just a bunch of coincidences, in this essay i will-)
I believe his birthday is March 24th 1987, making him 22 years old at the beginning of season one.
Facts-
1. His birthday is March 24
2. Season one takes place in the fall of 2009
3. He had to help his dad in their falafel restaurant because post 9/11 racial-profiling was destroying the business
4. He grew up watching the 1964 Rankin Bass movie Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer every Christmas
5. Abed is older than Troy
6. Abed is younger than Britta
7. Dan Harmon, in the behind the scenes for the episode G.I. Jeff, cited Abed as being “too young” for the G.I. Joe episode to be centered around him
Why these matter-
1. See #4
2. See #5
3. Abed would’ve been 14 at the time, making him the youngest possible age he could legally work in a restaurant
4. Rankin Bass Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’s first, and earliest, home media release was on VHS in 1989. This would’ve made him two years old, closer to three years old by Christmas of ‘89, a very formative age and good time to start a tradition. One could argue that he and his mom watched it when it aired on tv but we see at the end of Abed’s Uncontrollable Christmas that they are watching it on a VCR. It doesn’t seem like too much of a stretch as we see multiple times in the series that Abed has an extensive dvd/vhs collection
5. In Mixology Certification, Abed’s ID and being legally able to drink are not considered an issue, unlike Annie. He is seen legally drinking (presumably) in Communication Studies, making him at least 21. In the same episode, Jeff references the fact that Abed apparently doesn’t drink. This makes it sound that he can, but just choses not to.
6. Amongst other instances, in Investigative Journalism, Britta says “Vacations are wasted on the young” while referring to Troy and Abed.
7. In this Interview/Behind the scenes, Dan Harmon talks about how the plot came to be, “‘This must have something to do with Abed’s psychosis, why is Abed seeing things as 80’s G.I. Joe? Why would he do that? He’s a young fella.’ And that conversation led to ‘Why are we asking about Abed?’.” G.I Joe ran from September 12, 1983 –November 20, 1986. I personally don’t believe this rules out that he wasn’t born yet or that he never watched it, it’s more so Dan Harmon and the other writers being so adamant that this was before Abed’s time, to the point where they opted for Jeff instead, that makes it seem worth noting.
Anyway. That’s it. Just thought it was neat. But hey, that’s just a theory, a fILM THEO- *gunned down by firing squad*

RIP STEVE LAWRENCE
1935-2024
Steve Lawrence was born Sidney Leibowitz in New York City. Between 1958 and 1960 he served in the US Army and was a vocalist with the US Army Band and Orchestra. After he was discharged, he started his singing career on television, night clubs, and recordings, often with his wife Eydie Gormé, who he married in 1957. He appeared in the 1964 Broadway musical What Makes Sammy Run? (Tony nomination) and returned to Broadway in 1968 for The Golden Rainbow. His screen acting career began in 1963.
Almost exactly two years later, Lucille Ball was a guest star on the very first “The Steve Lawrence Show” (1965) a variety hour on CBS. They made their first entrance on the back of an elephant outside the theatre in New York City.
The show takes a suggestive turn when Lucy says “Stevie boy, I came all the way from California. What do you wanna do?” The audience laughs. Lucy says “Oh, that's the kind of audience you have!”
“The Steve Lawrence Show” was one of the last television programs on CBS to be aired in black and white. The show was done in New York City. It lasted just seven episodes, with the last broadcast on December 13, 1965.
On September 16, 1973, Lucille Ball appeared on “Steve and Eydie on Stage” from Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. It was aired on NBC.
On September 24, 1973, just eight days later, he appeared with Eydie on “Here's Lucy” in an episode titled "Lucy, the Peacemaker." In it, Lucy moonlights as personal assistant to Lawrence while he is having a spat with Gormé. Instead, Lucy sets her sights on getting the two back together again.
On July 23, 1976, Steve and Eydie were the musical guests when Dinah Shore interviewed Lucy on her talk show "Dinah!"
In 1982, Lawrence and Ball joined many others in an "All-Star Party for Carol Burnett". He had appeared on "The Carol Burnett Show" and "The Garry Moore Show" alongside Burnett. Four years later, Ball and Lawrence were back for an "All-Star Party for Clint Eastwood."

On September 4th 1964 the Forth Road bridge was officially opened to the public.
Soldiers of Lowland regiments from the south linked up symbolically with a Highland brigade from the north to mark the opening of the new crossing, which cuts more than an hour off the journey-time by road.
The Forth Road Bridge at the time the fourth longest in the world. The opening of the Forth Road Bridge marked end of the Ferries across the Forth an 800-year-old service.
At its peak, the service was running 40,000 trips a year, carrying 1.5m people. The four ferryboats have been run by 70 men only 30 of whom were be re-employed on the new bridge collecting tolls. Up to 400 men have worked on the bridge sometimes in very dangerous conditions with winds up to 100mph. Seven men lost their lives - others were saved by the terylene safety nets suspended beneath them. It took 39,000 tons of steel, 30,800 miles of wire in the suspension cables, and is 163ft above the river at its highest point. Tragically 7 workers died during the construction, although another source says only 3 died.
53 years later, to the day the official opening of The new Queensferry Crossing takes place today. The structure spans 1.7 miles (2.7km) making it the longest three-tower, cable-stayed bridge in the world. Another record was set when in 2013 they had the largest continuous underwater concrete pour over 14 days the 24-hour non-stop operation successfully poured 16,869 cubic metres of concrete into the water-filled south tower caisson. The building work was also hit by tragedy with the death of one worker..
While we remember the building of these bridges we also remember those who died on three structures that cross the Firth of Forth.

Ahmed Baba:
We’re only a few days into President Trump’s second term, and so far, he has behaved exactly as many of us warned. Trump has taken multiple executive actions straight out of the Project 2025 playbook, as predicted. From Trump’s immigration orders, his reinstatement of Schedule F to make firing civil servants easier, his executive order targeting trans rights, and his environmental regulation rollbacks, Trump is proving that those who were deemed “alarmists” for calling out the fact Trump’s Agenda 47 aligns directly with Project 2025 are actually realists. There’s one policy area in particular where President Trump’s executive orders echo Project 2025 almost verbatim, and that’s Trump’s targeting of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. But, as we’ve seen, Trump isn’t simply targeting DEI. He’s targeting civil rights. Just as anti-Critical Race Theory (CRT) efforts became a catch-all method to target the teaching of civil rights education more broadly, anti-DEI efforts have become a smokescreen to target fundamental civil rights era anti-discrimination policies. DEI is mentioned at least 39 times in the 920-page Project 2025 policy playbook. Project 2025 explicitly calls for the elimination of all federal DEI programs and calls for the prosecution of “local governments, institutions of higher education, corporations, and any other private employers” who implement DEI policies. It mentions this all under the guise of targeting discrimination, which they falsely equate with DEI.
This week, President Trump signed executive orders that seek to accomplish much of what Project 2025 laid out, and he uses the same anti-discrimination pretenses. After ending all federal DEI initiatives on Monday, in a Tuesday executive order, President Trump revoked a foundational anti-discrimination executive order from the civil rights era. Trump’s order, titled “Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity,” doesn’t end illegal discrimination or promote merit-based opportunity. It permits it. Trump’s executive order terminates all DEI practices in the federal government and revokes decades of executive orders from the Clinton and Obama administrations. It goes even further. Trump rolled back the “Equal Employment Opportunity Executive Order 11246” of September 24, 1965, signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ).
This LBJ executive order enforced the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and prohibited federal contractors from discriminating “against any employee or applicant for employment because of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin.” It also called for contractors to “take affirmative action to ensure that applicants are employed, and that employees are treated during employment, without regard to their race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin.” That concept of “affirmative action” became a focal point of decades of right-wing opposition. LBJ’s executive order has been the government’s key anti-discrimination enforcement mechanism for federal contractors for 60 years, opening up opportunities for people of color and women who were eager to work for these companies. But this change didn’t come without pushback. The Heritage Foundation, which now leads Project 2025, published a 1985 report entitled “Revising Executive Order 11246: Fulfilling the Promise of Affirmative Action.” President Ronald Reagan wanted to fulfill the Heritage Foundation’s wishes to roll back this executive order but faced pushback. Now, Trump has finally done it.
Donald Trump’s push to end DEI and affirmative action is part of the satanic Project 2025/Agenda 47 agenda.
