just started watching an episode of the english teacher and. like. i watched the entirety of person of interest before returning to this and NOW all i can see that man as is elias.

carl elias high school principle. carl elias wondering if he's homophobic if he split up the two gay guys into different projects. carl elias being disappointed 'cause all the kids drew penises for the school logo project.

now if anyone remembers, carl elias actually posed as a teacher in person of interest for the first episode. which makes this funnier, buuuut

#as said in a previous post I've cooled on this kind of actor interest #although there certainly have been a few that I've been like 'wow that is so much charisma'

Talder is, of course, what happens when you have two actors of this caliber interacting with one another frequently enough in a show.

This nails much more eloquently how I feel for my actor biases. I felt the same way for Anna Torv’s Olivia Dunham. I felt the same way for Bridget Regan’s Rebecca on White Collar, and her Kahlan Amnell on Legend of the Seeker. I stared at Quinn Fabray, Callisto and Xena, Matsunaga Yuki and Hayakawa Kairi, Jo Hayden, and Linda Seton whenever they appeared on my screen, hanging onto their every word and facial expression, especially if they were in the background.

Whenever these actresses appear on another show, even in one-off guest stars, I have to laugh at how they’re so meant to be leads, and when they’re playing recurring characters, you can see the creators very carefully doling out their appearances, smiles, or other strong emotions, or we’d be spoiled for the rest of the show entirely. The writers of Fringe blatantly sent Peter away for the big emotional showdowns of early seasons, because John and Anna were leagues ahead of Joshua’s acting presence and weight. Regan’s Rebecca had to be killed off in order to prevent her from taking over the show.

And Root! Gorram, what a character. Olivia was annoyingly sidelined for manpain several times during Fringe, but Root has only become ever more legendary over time. Every new facet that is shown has made her greater as a character, and it’s clear how much the writers fell in love with her, without losing sight of how she should be best used within the show’s overall structure.

I am helpless before my actor-biases playing self-confident competence porn characters. I have doubts I would have been so inspired by Winifred Burkle, though I will be watching Angel for Amy in the future, and highly anticipate her Illyria transformation. I now relish the thought of rewatching Dollhouse, luxuriating in the Whiskey scenes. And I’ve already gone back over her JLU episodes with glee, for her vocal acting alone. Gifsets of her shittier movies make them look like actually interesting things. But Root! The difference in presence between Root and the standard-guest-star Caroline Turing only further speaks to Amy’s skill, though it does make me pause to hunt down some of her other one-offs, like on Human Target and Supernatural, as after Root, it might feel unsatisfying to see her going back to Caroline-level weight. (Oh man, now I get to rewatch her as cray-cray whammied!evil sister on WH13? It’s like my fucking birthday.)

Still not over the fact that Iris is basically Caroline Turing redux. Root should be mercilessly mocking John over this.
