Also recently I've gotten into a debate with a friend that doesn't agree with my approach for deciphering Soulsborne lore (in which I include all pieces on models you can't see in the game and should rip the model, face data, internal filenames, lyrics translations in BB, cut content that isn't actually cut....). Like, his point was that we only should consider what can be observed in the games with 'naked eye' to say so, and everything developers hid and did not intend for players to see by normal means is just a 'fun fact' that might or might not be used, whereas my point is that everything that developers PUT in the game counts and in 95% of the times there is not only thought put into it, but a legit answer to some lore questions! Zullie (the dataminer/youtuber) put it better in a Tweet I can't find right now, that since everything developers put in the game is made with conscious effort, of course there is implication almost always- heck, if you watch her channel and analyzed her datamines, you can see what it all means!

But also, we came to an agreement that he is... kind of right, actually? That videogames should be first interpreted from what experiences developers intended for the players, because it is very unlikely that they created a story with dataminers that will unveil it in mind. Miyazaki himself admitted that as a kid, he enjoyed reading novels written in English but didn't understand some bits because of the language barrier and had to fill the gaps with his imagination 🤔 So even if he himself knows the 'real' story of his games, he wanted to emulate that feeling, so the players would feel the same fun of having to fill the gaps they can't understand. Basically, I am not engaging with the story in the way he intended for the fans. What I am doing using books analogy is dig into dictionary or ask people around when there are words I don't know, so I can decipher everything. This is just how my brain works (no autist is the same blablabla) and I am not having fun using my own imagination...? I am not playing the game by rules, but rather I have fun learning bits developers chose to hide because I want to get as close to the "real" story rather than make my own. So, legit answers on some lore questions hidden deep in game files are same as English words you are supposed to not understand. And yet I intend to (fucking Caryll moment, lol)

In general, I can't really change how my mind works- and, again, by this logic what Zullie or Lance or others are doing is """wrong""" and it isn't, my friend is just right that this is not intended experience. I also found an interesting irony in how for someone THIS passionate about Soulsborne games (mostly Bloodborne), I do not really respect the creator's plan for me as a fan 🤔 Something to think about.. Does that make Lore Council and other particularly hardcore lorediggers type of mad scholars that fall for their hubris? ...or this is just me? xD

So i remember an ask mentioning your mortal enemy, Felis Atra and their cats, and i thought it'd be fun to draw what Felis Atra's version of your italian dogs would be.

I think they would be called Butter Knife and Flamengo! Butter Knife is not his real name, it's an nickname given by his peers because of how harmless he is. I choose Flamengo because that's the name of Vasco's rival football team here in Brazil, so i thought that was the perfect name :)

Cat Machete was slightly inspired by the Oriental Shorthair cat because of their long noses and thin head shape.

Cat Vasco was inspired by the Scottish Fold cat, because FLOPPY EARS. I gave Flamengo longer ears and orange fur to make him more like his look-alike.

The last doodle is a reference to this ask (https://canisalbus.tumblr.com/post/728923918314946560/me-i-am-machete-ear-fan-number-1-those-ears) and contains the tumblr ask stand-in dog, whose cat version was inspired by the American Curl cat! They have round ears that are slightly floppy outwards.

Final notes: I know cardinal clothes don't come in vibrant blue, but i was ADAMANT on switching Machete's and Vasco's clothing color patterns. I would draw the rest of Butter Knife's and Flamengo's clothes, but i suck at designing cool outfits.

Speaking of outfits, for Machete's iconic void outfit, i figured it would be fun to make it more baggy for Butter Knife, in contrast to Machete's, that looks very tight-fitted. I think it's cute, it kinda looks like a sweater. Also i can't imagine a Machete doppelganger without high heels boots, so those HAD to stay.

Oh, and just to be clear, i'm not like, claiming ownership of these guys or anything. I just thought it would be a fun exercise. Hope you like them!! I love your art and your characters.

#'ox-eyed' is a term I stole from Homer (along with 'dog faced')#In this cultural context the term is used to compliment brown eyes. Not just applied to brown eyes in general but to describe #someone's as uniquely pretty (usually with the implication of a soft or calm gaze). Applied more frequently to women than men.#I've gone over Ganmachen before but that one refers to the ox birth sign and is a mostly complimentary epithet for people who #have the associated traits. It literally means 'ox faced' but the mache/machen word for face doesn't refer to the anatomical face #rather some perceived essential/fundamental aspect of one's nature being their 'face'#There's a ton of other '-faced' epithets both in regards to birth signs and not #and adding the -machen suffix to a description of a person emphasizes the quality being described #Like calling someone 'brave-faced' would be a bigger compliment than just 'brave'- describes this bravery as fundamental to their being #(I don't write this kind out in-text though because the concept of 'faced as descriptive emphasis' doesn't work in english)#(I'd just say like 'very brave' or etc)#'braileig' is the term for a horse foal in the western Highlands dialect. This started as Brakul insulting Janeys with the descriptor #'little lost foal in a blizzard' (which more biting than it sounds- describes someone as pitifully helpless). Janeys was paying #more attention than he thought and had picked up enough to recognize that he was being called a horse baby. Brakul eventually #started using just 'braileig' as a nickname

The problem with a lot of traffic life interpretations in my opinion is they don't understand character foils or don't employ them in their writing. Grian-Martyn and Scar-Ren are genuinely pretty good character foils for a series that is not really scripted or planned out like a book is. I could go on and on about how they parallel each other and the similarities between them. Even the smaller details between the four usually match up

But apparently not #I guess she only matters when it comes to marrying Edward and Promoting Her Family and scheming against Richard #There is very lacking interest in her beyond those things even in her traditionally negative depictions #And most of her “reassessments” tend to do diminish her so badly she's rendered utterly irrelevant and almost pathetic by the end of it #Even when some of these things *are* mentioned they're never truly emphasized as they should be.#See: her formal appointment in royal councils. Ianthe neglected to mention it when she was regaling the dinner party with the story of Corona's umbilical cord almost strangling her in the womb, but that doesn't mean it's not possible! I haven't heard this theory before, that's fun. Do you mean it as physical symbolism of their codependency, to go with having the same arithmonym?

I think if I were going to assign the Tridentarii another twin-related fetal health complication to make symbolism from, I'd give them TTTS. Twin-Twin Transfusion Syndrome. It's when twins sharing a placenta have an imbalance in the blood exchanged; one twin sends more blood than it receives, and the other receives more blood than it sends. It's like that "one of them received more nutrients in the womb" meme, only with a net effect that's negative for everyone involved. Sooooo Third House chique.
