The problem with a lot of traffic life interpretations in my opinion is they don't understand character foils or don't employ them in their writing. Grian-Martyn and Scar-Ren are genuinely pretty good character foils for a series that is not really scripted or planned out like a book is. I could go on and on about how they parallel each other and the similarities between them. Even the smaller details between the four usually match up

that makes so much sense actually. i also am making some aus (unrelated) and am wanting to seperate them into little ficlets/art pieces/comics of the pieces that motivate me before even touching on an overarching story but also god is it difficult for me. if thats what works for you as well id definitely say treat it like that (also i would LOVE to see any animatics you do for this)

i personally am mostly watching the hermits doing their hermit crafting (currently watching 18 hermits simultaneously the hyperfixation is b a d) and a couple SOS members, though i plan to watch more of the creators. I've really only seen up to double life (all through grians pov), and i havent even finished that. in my defence, the "its for your secret soulmate" line utterly and completely destroyed me and i have NOT recovered since (i stopped watching his hermitcraft videos after that too until the start of s10).

i have made the resolution to go watch other povs but i need to finish his first rip.

ANYWAY BACK TO THE AU

How often do you think the vflarp games effect their out of game relationships? like obviously it led to them becoming friends and desert duo becoming "moirails" but like. Did double life cause a rift between grian and scar? has rendog being absent from the games had any significance on anything? (i havent watched further so i cant really give too many other examples). Do the winners get anything other than the satisfaction that they alone won?

Yeah! There’s just something so appealing about being able to just jump around & do mini projects that go together rather than one huge one. I’m hoping it’ll hold off the burn out I inevitably get for my AUs. **stares off into the distance thinking about all my mega fics that only ever got three chapters** I get it being hard to break it down though! I hope you’re able to land at a place where you can create as easily & painlessly as possible. ^^

I feel you on the hyperfixation lol. I was doing that hermitblr survey that’s going around & realized that I watch every episode of a third of the server, & some to most episodes of another third. & there’s a handful in the final third that I’ve been meaning to watch, but haven’t gotten to because I’m so busy watching everyone else & thinking about fanworks. This season is just slamming all the good brain chemical buttons!

Tbf, “it’s for your secret soulmate” hit so fucking hard, I do not blame you an ounce for wanting to take a break after that! When you’re ready, I highly recommend Martyn’s 3rd life, it’s so good! I never quite got the Renchanting/Treebark hubbub as someone who’d only seen Grian’s perspective of that season, but after watching Martyn’s… The drama is just. So. Good. Martyn + Ren is just a combo of theatre kid lore nerds & it honestly slaps. Gem’s Secret Life is damn good as well, just ‘cause she got to be a chaos gremlin & we love to see it.

Oh yes, their VLARPing affects IRL relationships all the time! A lot of early relationships developed due to playing 3rd Life & those relationships continued on to influence who went on which ship once they reached adulthood! Obviously, we’ve got Scar & Griann, but also there’s Scohtt & Jimmie who became auspitices, & Wrehnn & Martyn who stick together & eventually become matesprits. Jimmie & Tangoh hit it off after playing Double Life as soulmates & eventually enter a [matespritship? Moiraillegance? Haven’t decided] as well. & of course, my beloved Boat Boys developed their weird whatevership around the same time. (Joel swears they’re pitch. Eethos never comments on it. The truth is somewhere around them being hate friends who are flushed for each other??? But fuck if you’ll ever get either of them to admit it.)

Things were pretty rocky for Scar & Griann after DL; the whole secret soulmate thing was a case of Griann being mildly annoyed with Scar & thinking he could get back at Scar/make Scar jealous. This blew up in his face ~*~spectacularly~*~ & it took quite a bit for things to heal between them. (Mummbo spent a lot of that time being very confused why the vibes on Scar’s ship were so fucking rancid until he managed to get Griann to fess up.)

There definitely is a plot related reason Wrehnn hasn’t been playing, but I’m holding back on finalizing anything until I get more of the out of game plot mapped out. But yes, that definitely affects/is an effect of things in game!

I think, much like in real life, winning is just for the prestige of it. Like, in this AU, the Life series is just a bunch of games they’re playing for the heck of it. Though this does make me think that I need to decide where these games come from, whether it’s a mass market thing or something Griann threw together or if maybe it came from some other outside influence. Hm…

Saw that post about Legacy and my brain just pingponged to "yeah I wish I could watch Zloy bc he's a dork but unfortunately Character Zloy is a huge swinging dick" so basically you have any recommendations for Legacy members who are like. Rendog or Stressmonster vibes? Like somewhere in the ballpark of sweetheart dork and also potentially theater kid?

Legacy is difficult at the moment honestly. Your options kinda come down to:

Poppy (PoptartKatze), Pearl (PearlescentMoon) are streamers. They weren't as involved in the first plot point, but they have had more involvement in the current one.

Logic (Logicalgeekboy) and Lime (slicedlime) are your two options for YT videos, and much more story involved.

I'd say personality wise, none of them are really like Stress or Ren. They're all a bit more subdued.

Lime is quite similar to Xisuma or Hypno I'd say. Pretty calm, a very nice accented voice, knowledgeable about the game. And his videos are very cinematic. He always uses shaders & a lot of really nice replay sequences. He often does his timelapses in time to music and it's Amazing. I watch those a lot.

Logic is very much a redstoner. It's what he excels and it's obvious in his videos! I think he looks up to the hermits a lot (esp Imp and Skizz!) and he kind of has Impulse's calmness. An accented voice but in an opposite direction to Lime's (it can take a bit to get used to.)

Poppy is most similar to Stress I'd say! She's very dedicated, streams Legacy most days. Bouncy personality, I don't watch her too much but she's always a lot of fun!

Pearl is another pretty calm one. She doesn't stream Legacy as often but her builds are... Gorgeous. She did a few videos early in the season, but stopped.

There's a few others that are like... Half-active? Skizz, Nikolian, Chimneyswift come to mind. I don't know too much of their vibe, and they haven't really covered the plotlines.

Also, some plot notes under the cut!

Firstly: They are not the best actors. They are trying their best, but be patient with them. You will cringe a little, but the amount of work and effort they've put into their lore is more than worth it.

If you want to jump straight into the plot, I recommend watching their first episodes, then you can jump straight into Lime's 'It Is Time' episode or Logic's 'Nether Star Farm and Time Runs Out' episode! Generally all the lore you need to know is covered in the first episode. But, I'm more than willing to discuss anything you need to know! From those episodes, you can continue through to the current plotline. There's not much downtime in-between them.

I do think another early episode that's a lot of fun to watch is the dragon fight episode. Pretty much everyone on the server goes to fight the enderdragon together, and it's predictably chaos. Just a very fun episode.

The current plotline though... Oh my gosh. It is incredible. It has required planning from the start of the season, and even before. It's pretty much a mini-ARG. I don't want to spoil it, but it's so good.

Anyway that is my less than brief reintroduction into Legacy. It's such a good series. Please watch it and send love to the creators, because they are putting so so much work into it (one of the latest plot events was recorded live on stream and Logic tweeted later about being nervous about it,,,)

YHS is Yandere High School! A Minecraft roleplay by Samgladiator. we hate him both his character and as a creator. there’s.. plenty about that on my blog. Grian was the third main character, and he was a very interesting one!! one of the best characters, v interesting. that’s where a lot of lore came from for him, you’ll see in a lot of most. mostly mine tbh

This blog is mostly about Hermitcraft, it’s individual members, and Dream SMP! YHS still makes good amount of appearances, as does other Minecraft YouTubers from around 2015. YourPalRoss, SkyDoesMinecraft, etc I write fanfics, produce a LOT of AUs, give explanations for some old series, and hoard asks. i am at 254. i am so sorry.

Hermitcraft is super easy to get into! Watching previous seasons is unnecessary. Honestly, even watching previous episodes in a Hermit’s season isn’t required. There’s an entire channel dedicated to giving weekly recaps of every. single. thing related to Hermitcraft, from each perspective.

That really depends on the type of content and personality you’re into! For a lot of the storylines, games, and general perspective of everything on the server, Grian’s a great start. as is Iskall85, and GoodTimesWithScar!  Tango Tek, Rendog, Docm77 and Joe Hills are other good ones! Involved in a lot, very positive, etc. Tango and Ren are just some of the Hermits that either you can’t sit through their videos because they’re just SUCH BIG PERSONALITIES that it’s hard to focus. Doc took a few month-long break, and missed a BIG portion of the season, so you couldn’t solely watch him, but he’s GREAT. the man is amazing. amazing content. he plays a fantastic character. he is just.. a fantastic person. Joe is. Joe. You don’t watch him because he’s good at the game, or involved in everything. you watch him because he’s Joe Hills and he’s a cynical poet with unhinged cryptid vibes. He is here to be your father.

It is NOT important to watch a Hermit from their first season to the latest! MOST seasons do not intertwine, they are independent of each other for the most part. Some things carry over or get referenced, but it’s nothing drastic. And also! Hermitrecap is your friend. use it. they’re a GREAT resource. 

I joined the fandom in April, and I had an AMAZING experience so far. I’d recommend a few things. Tag appropriately. Decide your stance on shipping. Apparently, it use to be a REALLY BIG DIVIDE between shippers and non-shippers, but it’s mostly alright now. Most people are alright about it, but if you have something that’s strictly meant to be platonic, say “don’t tag as ship”. if you post something that’s is ship, it’s common for you to tag it as “hermitship” and NOT any of the main tags. “hermitship” “hermitship (character)” “hermitship (shipname) but NOT Hermitcraft, individual hermits, etc. It’s not the end of the world if you do it, but would recommend it.

I hope this helps! I would recommend Hermitcraft more than anything. I’m watching Grian, Iskall85, Docm77, Rendog, GoodTimesWithScar, Tangotek, Ethoslab, Joe Hill, Zedaph, and i’m planning on watching more. I’m watching/watched Doc, Ren, Scar, and Bdubs for season 5-6 (the current season is 7) and i am LOSING MY MIND but this is fine.
