I wonder when the Noldor looked around at their dwindling numbers and realized that they were dying faster than they could ever keep up with.
#tolkien#silmarillion#I actually have a lot of feelings about this#because the noldor that come over from Valinor are pretty much all you get for the first age’s long war#birth rates are also in the basement if they exist at all#elves don’t have children during war#even if the siege of Angband is peaceful enough to relax that custom#I still don’t think you would have many children#elves have known war before - we know they did before the great journey#but it’s also got to be sobering to realize that your casualty rates are literally unsustainable#(like so#the house of finwë probably isn’t a representative sample of casualty rates#but damn the big picture still can’t be good#we have one grandchild of finwë who survives to the second age out of fifteen and that’s a very very bad rate)#what does that DO to a people group#to go from immortal and undying#to accepting that your whole clan is getting whittled down chunk by chunk#when did they start realizing that even if they beat Morgoth#they wouldn’t recognize the survivors

Trigun Manga Reaction
Here we go! Chapter 8 Volume... Huh?
Voulme 2? I thought this is still Volume 1. Am I tripping?
Anyway! Just a moment of appreciation for this parody page of he cover.
This while thing is so "busy" yet it still make sense. There's so many elements layering on top of each other. It should be a confusing mess. However, I can still easily pick out the four components that tells a story.
Component 1: Vash as a happy salary man being served a drink by a geisha (judging from the hairstyle and accessory) with shadowed eyes on the opposite end of the page.
Component 2: BDN at the dead center. The text makes it a bit difficult to confirm if he has a top knot, but he definitely is rocking a traditional Japanese look. He looks menacingly at Vash as he drinks.
Component 3: Meryl and Milly running in a hurry but for two clearly different purposes. Meryl looks like a traditional restaurant staff frantically trying to serve a lot of guests. Meanwhile, Milly doesn't look she's working anywhere near the food service industry with her get up and the tool that she has on hand.
Component 4: The Bad Lads drinking in celebration while an ambulance seems to be sounding its sirens as it parked near them.
Look. I may seem to be too obsessed with this gag page but it's crazy how its a fucking busy mess that still works at telling a cohesive story!
With just this two page drawing, I can infer easily that someone is in danger and may need to be hospitalized - so the ambulance was called and asked to stand by. Milly is probably the heroine about to save the day with the overworked yet eager to help Meryl. The party the Bad Lads are having is a big distraction at a possible murder attempt starring Vash as the victim, the geisha as the accomplice, and BDN as the mastermind.
I'M SORRY BUT HOW THE FUCK?!!!
And don't get me started on the scaling of each figure and the silhouettes. Just... I'll just repeat, Nightow is amazing for how pretty AND technical his drawing is. It's so clean. Wow...
Sorry for getting derailed. So, back to the chapter.
Ok. I lied. Let me just appreciate Winter Mery and Milly here. I love them so much and they so fucking cute here with their dynamic pose... solid silhouette... Clean fucking lines... Sorry... Give me a minute!!!
Sigh~
Interesting. So, '98 rearranged the sequence of events here. This happened a bit later... which I think is better. It adds more impact on Vash's duel against BDN.
These guys are no stormtrooper shooters. They having really good aim!
They didn't hit Vash. Okay. Maybe the tails of his coat now have fresh bullet holes, but aside from that, Vash is fairly intact. The Bad Lads have great accuracy.
This is an intriguing way of drawing a spinning gun. It's simple but effective in visually communicating that that is what BDN is doing. A good choice. Thinking about it... If three twirling guns in a blur of circles were drawn, it would be too distracting and BDN will be overwhelmed in the panel.
Cool foreshortening. Incredible detail on the filigree. And a bonus Goofy Face Vash!
So so fucking glad '98 was faithful to the manga with these scenes. Meryl and Milly were such badasses here.
Huh... Well that's a huge difference. There's not much:
GASP! It'S VaSH tHe STampeDE!
vASh ThE StAMpEdE?!
VASH THE STAMPEDE!!!
It can get a bit much... sometimes in '98. So, this is refreshing.
WHAT...
WHAT THE FLYING FUCK?!!!
So, those lines by Miss Purple Avenger from the filler episode were originally from BRILLIANT DYNAMITES NEON?!
I-
Oooohhh.... Pretty art... Wait no... I can't distracted. I'm mad!
I'M VERY VERY MAD!!!
OML! This is much more intense! IT ADDS SO MUCH WEIGHT TO THE DUEL!
Oh my goodness... This nuance... WHY WAS THIS CHANGED?!
Not to say that Miss Purple Avenger and the episode featuring her was bad. It was actually great! Her version of July was nightmare inducing... and her confrontation with Vash was truly tragic too but.... Uhm...uh... AAHHHH!!!! I CAN'T CHOOSE! THEY'RE BOTH GOOD!
Oh... break my heart into fucking pieces will you huh?!
LOOK AT THESE! Manga Vash getting cheered on by the people! People were supporting him! He is being treated nicely as he deserved.
Even in '98! It was not as overt at this page. However, that scene of the captain from the beginning of this chapter replaced these panels instead and is just as effective. '98 Vash has people believing the good in him.
TRISTAMP VASH WAS ROBBED!!! HE NEVER HAD THESE!!! That poor precious boy! The few precious people who supports him only showed up near the end... and... and...
Now getting even more upset again with the Jeonora Episodes in Tristamp!
It's so not fair!
Oooh. A cinematic page!
HOLY SHIT!!! THESE PAGES ARE AMAZING!
I can't believe this. This fight is better in the manga!
I am not dissing Studio Madhouse for what they've done tho. The '98 Duel was epic too! They did great! But all these crazy angles and perspectives in the manga just elevate the overall awesomeness of the gunfight. It's just more immersive.
Tbf to the '98 anime, this is a nightmare to animate faithfully. With the technology and techniques at the time, this would be so difficult to pull off beautifully - going topsy turvy in one smooth motion for two characters at the same time in a fight scene with a complicated moving background? Yeah... The animation staff would go insane. It's totally understandable that they simplified this duel into extreme close ups and strong facial + gun drawings instead.
I hope Studio Orange re-hashes this fight in some way tho... or does the Episode 1 duel count?
Sigh... With the my discovery that Miss Purple Avenger's lines were actually BDN's, and that the outrage towards Vash for not remembering anything about July belongs to the Bad Lads', these words have become so much more meaningful.
It's also now more effective at convincing me that Brilliant Dynamites Neon have hidden depths.
Oh... Ow... The detailing here is just ow for the hands of an artist. Perhaps I overreacting, but those fine lines in the crooks and crannies make me wince.
Once again tag responses:
@revenantghost
Yeah. The more I see his work, the more I'm awed by his skills. That's a cool detail that his design incorporate realism. I thought the glasses are for the light tho? But maybe it's like those the Olympian gunners wore during the competition?
The dead REALLY haunting the narrative? Looking forward to it!
@takeshidude
Ok. Monthly publication are still grueling but at least its not as nightmarish with weekly mangakas. No wonder the quality is consistent with the art. Nightow was allowed to breathe.
You make a good point. '98 did have a bit of a mystery woven into it. We know Vash the Stampede - we follow his misadventures and people kept saying who he is ad nauseam in every episode. However, we don't really know know him for quite a long time. It's a different, but no less interesting, spin to the story.
Which kinda explains I'm misremembering some scenes and characterizations? The last third of '98 made a long lasting impression that I kinda forgot about Vash's horn dogginess.
#trigunbookclub#trimax journey#there is no escape#i'm due for a re-watch of '98#but i am a bit upset at the change of who mentioned july#yeah some may say it's a tiny thing but those questions about july COMING FROM bdn before the duel is just much more impactful!#especially when contrasted with the previous chapter where vash tells kaite about his pacifistic ideals#it's a metaphorical slap to the face like...#PREVIOUSLY - vash: kaite i don't want to kill because i promised someone i never would#CURRENTLY - bnd: oi vash! why fuck did you kill everyone in july?#just the absolute whiplash minfuck of it all! tho '98 did it too because Miss Avenger episode was AFTER the Love & Peace one#the events just kinda flows so much better here in the manga than '98...#ALSO! bnd mentioning july makes it more convincing that he's not a 100% asshole thirsting for nothing but mayhem and blood#'98 keeping his 'life shines brighest' line is a bit lackluster when he didn't show any redeeming qualities whatsoever#here in the manga there is an implication that while he is a ruthless criminal - he has a line that he thinks vash had crossed#hence his seemingly more 'personal' stake on the duel#idk aughhh#sorry for rambling here for too long in the tags#i'm going back and forth at this#because '98 isn't bad AND they did stick to the core idea regarding the july question to vash#plus people losing their humanity to fight for survival is plain terrifying#sigh... this manga is going to keep me at my toes even if i watched the two animes already

feeling Normal about hermitcraft season 8 again (lying)
#hermitcraft 8 asks the question “does any of this matter” from two different directions#both from the direction of “does anything matter if everything we know is going to be wiped out and theres nothing we can do to prevent it”#and “does anything matter if its not real? if theres a reality beyond this one that is More Real?”#and the answer both times is of course it does#it always mattered#even if it couldnt change anything#nothing that happened inside of the Hermatrix affected the Hermitheus's journey. but that doesnt mean the hermits were wasting their time#nothing that the hermits built could survive the moon. but that doesnt mean they shouldnt have built it#hermitcraft 8#hermitcraft#hermitblr

In line with the post I made of all the funny stuff to look forward to in the story, here’s some of the…less funny stuff that will happen over the course of the story. Because I love angst, and I didn’t hold back on trying to think of how some things might go realistically
- The riders dealing with all their enemies with no Berk to fall back to, Berk itself sometimes being one of those enemies
- The guilt, pain and trauma for all the riders that comes with Ant losing his leg
- Dragon training sessions on Berk going horribly wrong
- Kaiko and Will watching their thought-to-be-dead son go through everything he does, unable to change any of it (as this story is written in a ‘the characters watch their own show’ style)
- Ant having episodes where he can’t talk due to being selectively mute, because of his treatment of Berk, and the other riders and even Toothless having to learn how to help him through it
- The riders being captured and interrogated/tortured by Dragon Trappers
- The Dragon Fighting ring in RTTE being a more widespread operation
- Diving further into how the Red Death affected the dragons in her nest, and making the scene where Hiccup and Astrid (Ant and Kari here) find the nest worse
- Dragons and humans having panic/anxiety attacks
- The riders having to learn how to fight enemies outside of the ring on the fly (sometimes literally, because dragons) and not being the best at it in the beginning
- Ant being the village scapegoat due to not being white, and having no blood family on Berk to back him up, and all the internal issues that come to be because of that
- Gobber and Gothi, while being the primary caretakers of Ant who cared for him, not being perfect anyways, and still messing up in some ways
- Situations, characters, and character dynamics being complicated and messy
- No one region or faction of the world being ‘perfect’ or ‘good’ or even ‘bad’. Everyone has problems, and everyone handles them differently
- Snotlout, the twins, and Fishlegs trying to be ‘adults’ for Kari and Ant, because there’s no one else to help them in the beginning, but still struggling in some ways because they themselves are still kids who want an adult to help
- Characters having complicated family dynamics, with some parents not being perfect, and with some of the riders still missing their own parents and families, while also knowing that those very people are part of what drove them away to begin with
- Some characters, while coming to an understanding and acknowledging that the other has changed, not reconciling and becoming best friends, or even friends by the end of the story
- Not every enemy is redeemed. At least one character that isn’t an enemy in the films is, and they are not redeemed at the end
#i really play into people and situations not being what they initially appear on the surface#for better of for worse#I’ve put a whole legend and a half into explaining how things got the way they did in the Archipelago#like. as far back as explaining how the Red Death even got there in the first place#astrid and heather who are both antagonists in the beginning are just kids who are learning and growing#even some adults like Stoick go on a journey of relearning everything they know#and the riders are KIDS. trying to survive on their own#they’re exiled RIGHT BEFORE winter starts. a winter named ‘Devastating Winter’#they’re learning as they go it’s not going to be pretty#there’s some room for imagination#it’s a story with dragons in it#but I still load on the angst#the deep 2015#the deep cartoon#httyd#HTTYD/The Deep crossover

My digimon :]
#some of these are alot older than others. for example i made pekomon in middleschool. meanwhile i made kweemon and the unamed stress ball#like 2 years ago.#my art#artists on tumblr#digimon#aloemon and tikemon are my digimon partners but the others (apart from stress ball) just hang out.#i have alot of notes and ideas for a series around my digimon sona...#I also like the idea of putting me/my sona into the story of a soul journey.#they were sucked into the digiworld alone in a time of non termoil and now they have to survive and make friends along the way!#has all of the charm of the original digimon anime where its all alice in wonderland/ random stuff from our world out of context in the#digital world. and the only real conflict is man vs environment. they dont start with their digital partners and actsholly meet pekomon#first. pekomon just sort of follows dare around and shows up randomly. theres plenty of time for digital dare to travel with the bois so i#didnt want them to be handed to them right off the bat. humans have been to the digital world before and some of the digimon digital dare#mets remeber seeing humans.#story of learning that growing up dosent necessarily have to involve growing up. you can keep injoying the things you injoy as an adult tha#you did as a kid. its also mainly about found family and recovering from the shity times that came before.#in the end digital dare whoudlent want to leave the digital world but need to anyways... in the end credits it whould show digital dare#getting a messege on their computer from their digimon friends.#its implyed they get to keep in touch even when they are oh so far apart.#99% of digital dare's messeges to pekomon are just them sending pekomon cool pictures that they took.

reflecting on how all of my other DMs have gone above and beyond to lovingly weave my and my friends' backstory elements into the larger worldbuilding of the campaign by contrast to all of the ways Elyss' DM has gone out of his way to suppress or excise any influences her family may have ever had on anything and I'm genuinely near tears over it
#'I'm so surprised that Elyss wasn't more interested in going to her mom's hometown now that you're in her homelands!'#YOU! CHANGED Nami's backstory so that she never traveled anywhere before having Elyss#and YOU decided that she never tells Elyss literally anything even when directly asked#because you're so desperate to make sure your players never know literally anything about whatever might happen to them ever#YOU made it feel not only unrewarding but as if it was actively unwelcome for you if I even talked to my mother!!#'we're making this very dangerous journey (that you've been retconned not to have made yourself so you can't spoil it)--#--assuming we survive can you please tell us anything at all about what to expect the other country to be like?'#'well. it is different than here. it may not be what you expect.'#'oooh why didn't you go to hometown' SUCK MY DICK I ASSUMED YOU'D BE ANNOYED IF I WENT THERE HOPING TO FIND ANYTHING#of course ELYSS wants to try to touch any part of her own heritage she can!!#do you think she doesn't wonder whether she has family there? do you think maybe it's weird that she doesn't already know??#when *I* built Elyss' mother I made her a traveler from a far-off land so neither of us had to worry about it#YOU decided to send us to THAT far-off land specifically and then REFUSE to let Nami actually TELL me anything about it!!#feels very much like you don't want me to engage with that! feels very much like you ACTIVELY don't want me to explore that connection!#and if it felt like *Nami* was being secretive about it then Elyss would be even more keen to investigate herself--#but it's just part of a well-established pattern of NPCs going 'it's a secret teehee' for very obviously no other reason than that--#the DM just doesn't ever want us to have information even if NPCs have that information and have no reason not to share it#anyway. tl;dr grief over elyss yearning her whole life for somewhere to belong#but not going to her mother's birthplace because she has no reason to believe there's anything there for her.#for purely stupid empty meta reasons.#'I'm surprised you didn't go there 👀' so maybe he had something!#but my mother-- through you-- was so cagey about whether her parents even exist that I kind of just figured you didn't! so!!#about me#my OCs#elyss
