'These sounds are very rare in languages'
'These sounds are common in disordered speech'
I wonder if these 2 facts have anything to do with each other.
#Anyone who has a lisp or other 'speech disorder'#i am so fucking sorry for your natural variations in speaking being pathologised as something to be corrected#i literally just wondered 'whats the IPA for pronouncing p or m with your tongue instead of your lower lip'#and guess fucking what its not even on the standard IPA chart#i am literally making a sound with my mouth i cannot find in the INTERNATIONAL PHONTETIC ALPHABET#wikipedia at least has it#wtf#this is like the 3rd time ive looked up a sound example and the comments are full of#'oh this is a real sound? this is what my lisp sounds like i had speech therapy to stop making that sound!'#and similar sentiments#*screaming*#obligatory 'not every speech therapy is unnecessary or entirely due to pathologisation'#have a lisp and dont want to and go to a speech therapist to try and stop having one? awesome valid i love you#viewing a lisp as an inherent problem or illness that your or your child must have 'fixed'? *screaming again*#ableism#i forgot to put real tags sorry lol#cw ableism#jus in case

Somehow that ongoing 1,500,000+ word The Beatles Paul McCartney x John Lennon fanfiction I read includes like the most absolute minuscule details of the Beatles lore, like tiny little things where I was like "that can't be real" but I looked it up and it was (IE a guy claiming to be Jesus Christ barging in on one of their recording sessions). But it does NOT include the apparently real group masturbation sessions
#Straight up learned so much abouyt The Beatles because like maybe 40% of that million plus word count was just like#a chronological recounting of Paul McCartneys actual life and like 30% of it is text from straight up actual real life interviews#placed into the fanfiction (except edited to confirm to the fanfic's Lore of Paul McCartney and John Lennon being life partners and#Lennon surviving his assassination and all of their love songs being about each other and Linda McCartney being Paul's#platonic bestfriend and surrogate Womb for their yaoi children)#Like I would 'fact check' out of curiosity and now I know way more about tge beatles than I ever wanted to#While the remaining 30% is the beautiful love story between Lennon and McCartney where they break up 30000 times and#also this fixation on Paul McCartney being repeatedly sexually assaulted throughout life including like a 12 chapter kidnapping arc#At one point they go to a museum and the fanfiction text has the first several sections of the wikipedia article for 'The Adoration of#the Mythic Lamb' pasted into it word for word.#The title is 'we can find our way somehow' and the author works that exact phrase into the text at least 30 times. I kept count#John and Paul would liek almost breakup and then when reuniting they'll be like 'but I know we can ALWAYS find our way somehow together'#also used 'kaleidoscope eyes' as a descriptor even more (think that counter got into the 40s) and constantly refers to erections as like#'it made his groin stir' 'his groin stirred' 'he felt a stirring in his groin'#You don't even understand. You don't understand. THe experience of reading all that. You don'tget it

this author has implanted so many north american exclusive species onto her fictional remote swedish island that i'm 60 pages from the end of the book being like well there's not like a Zero percent chance that there's a last minute reveal that this island is actually off the coast of canada and this is some kind of the village situation
#i have not seen the village#coyotes. raccoons. wild orange poppies. chokecherry. rose pogonia.#i don't trust her about anything now i wouldn't be species checking everything if she hadn't put in COYOTES and RACCOONS#babbles#they have visited the mainland a few times so probably not a the village situation but oh my god#she has to have looked at wikipedia at least ONCE in order to justify the mention of a lute in the 1830s#but not any flora or fauna.

New OCs
(briefly, humans and supernatural beings have to team up for building better relations with each other and all the supernaturals can shapeshift and take on human appearances but also have their 'original form'.)
OK so I was GOING to draw fanart today - I had a fun idea and everything! But health anxiety (and anti-anxiety meds) wore me out so I kinda .... slogged through OCs as a treat to me. I am going to go to the doctor tomorrow so HOPEFULLY it's all okay.
#my characters#also kite is the worst socially and says things he thinks are surely fitting for a human conversation#but ends up insulting grady with 99% of the comments and that makes grady not fond of him#but then grady is like super pleasant to others and doesnt know how to act around kite and flubs a lot too#its a disaster and the twins are like oh no this is painful#mr tengu that was so tacky you cant say that to a human#mr tengu you cant DO that to a human STOP BEING LIKE THIS#while callum is just like wow this is hilarious thanks for bothering my younger brother its adding character to his life#and kite is stressed because thats the least encouraging thing to hear ever thank you v much hes TRYING to adapt#but also kite isnt his real name and he doesnt know squat about humans BUT he knows they have the internet#and so hes like well the problem is i dont want to actually say my name to you all because what if i am Online (TM)#and so he asks for a new name and then is like he should name me - the tiny one who wants to kick my ass should name me#so grady is like ....... nooooo...... dont............ and then suggests kite bc he's done google research#and kite is a type of bird and according to wikipedia has some familiarity to tengu so therefore yeah#and kite is like !!!!!! DOES HE ! KNOW THINGS ! and happily accepts the slightly researched name while the other humans#are like grady stop that is bullying the poor guy leave him alone pick a normal name!#anyway not drawn yet but there is a human guy partner for the twins and he immediately is like perfect#i know which is which lets go out and explore the human world for your research#and they dont understand how he knows them apart so fast and none of the other humans seem to tell em apart#but then none of the humans are shocked at the guy who knows so the girls are like sir howst do you know#and hes just v casual oh right yeah younger identical twin sisters - i have Practice ! and they are endeared to him haha#anyway if you read all those tags ty#and yes in his tengu form he does actually have the long nose please do not be mad#i just dont draw noses normally and im too tired to practice rn so#i only drew the second one today anyway - the first pic was done a couple days ago but i didnt wanna post on main#but then here i am posting on main#im sorry

sebastian has so much affinity with the asian races: his first win with redbull was in china (2009), first win with ferrari was in malaysia (2015), he’s won the most times in singapore (2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2019), his favourite track is suzuka + he’s the only driver to have recorded a grand slam there (2012) + he won a championship there (2011) + it’s the track he has the most poles on (5), & he holds the track record for sepang (2017, 1:34.080)
#something that has been on my mind because im looking at this and the only career record that wasn’t done in asia at least once is like#first career win (monza 2008!)#ah he also got 5 poles in canada so its tied w suzuka#if i got anyth wrong lmk i was just referencing wikipedia to make sure i have the dates right#sv5#sebastian vettel

here are some shows that have 10 to 13-episode seasons: the wire, breaking bad, the sopranos, mad men, better call saul
and here are some shows that have 22-episode seasons: supernatural, glee
now i’m not saying anything. i’m just saying
#ok i will say something actually…i saw a rolling stone article yesterday arguing in favor of the 22-episode season#and they did namedrop the sopranos. and they were like ‘it wouldn’t have been as good if each season was only 8 episodes’#and all i could think was ‘yeah but it wouldn’t be as good if each season was 22 episodes either!!!’#i think a 22-episode season of tv is fine IF you’re a sitcom#but they are barely even making sitcoms anymore. i know there’s abbott elementary but that’s like the only one i can think of#most ‘comedies’ on tv these days are not sitcoms and are also not that funny#and if you go on the wikipedia category page for ‘2020s american single-camera sitcoms’#most of them are holdovers from the 2010s and/or already ended#like who give a shit about the 22-episode tv season…the sitcom has DIED BADLY and you don’t even care!!!#ok but back on topic…i would prefer that tv seasons have at least 10 episodes but you’re wrong if you think under 10 can’t be done well#the righteous gemstones for example…funniest thing on tv right now. 9 episodes per season#and yes…they feel like ‘complete’ tv seasons!#like. it can be done. the problem is most of these shows just aren’t doing it

Just thinking about Clint defending himself "no I am not a mutant or inhuman or anything else I am simply just a human" & some people probably still thinking he is lying because "just a human can't have a perfect aim & being able to do all of this"
#People are always underestimate him so of course he can't be just a human...#At least on person has a twitter/tiktok/Youtube account just to prove that he his in fact not just a human...#Clint follows that person in every social media account & doesn't know if he should be amused or if he should cry...#But mostly he is annoyed by some people... Especially journalists & reporters because they always asks the same question & won't believe him#“if I would be a mutant why should I hide it. I would write it down on my Wikipedia site by myself”#Clint is just a human & this is sometimes the hardest part of being an Avenger...#Also several shield doctors are having doubts.#They thing coulson manipulated the documents...#It also makes Clint maybe a bit insecure (don't know what for - sry a bit of 1D here)#Because people be like “why is dude part of a superhero team? He is just a dude”#clint barton#616 hawkeye#hawkeye#marvel

Let F be a Floer homology theory. For the purposes of this talk, you can assume it's any Floer homology theory you like, and if you don't like any Floer homology theory, then pretend you do like one and assume it's that one
-- a conference speaker
#floer homology#math#maths#mathblr#you really should have at least one Floer homology theory you like!!#i have for a while wanted to do a longpost about floer homology#a very cool concept that shouldn't yield anything but miraculously does#and also about the guy who came up with it (andreas floer)#who was a very interesting guy#he died in 1991 at age 34 which is usually when an academic is only starting to build their influence#and thus didn't have any phd students#and most people in the math community don't seem to have known him personally#(his wikipedia page has a section of quotes about him but they're all about his math#which is pretty much universally agreed to be one of the most striking developments of modern mathematics)#but one time they did a memorial conference a couple years ago in his honour at (uc) berkeley#where they talked about the extremely fruitful field of research he pioneered#they put up posters around campus advertising the conference that happened to have a picture of him#and apparently a bunch of old guys showed up who knew nothing about math#it turned out they were his housemates in the gay commune he used to live in#who were going for a walk around campus and saw a poster with his photo and were like#'wait isn't that our buddy who died twenty-some years ago??'#apparently they knew nothing about math so it was totally incomprehensible to them but they attended the whole conference anyway

The Wikipedia entry for the ACGAS 1978 special about the end of the war is so hilarious to me. It manages to imply that James has been in the RAF for the entire war and never come home at all, yet Helen has had kids.
Obviously that's not what it means but the thought is so funny. Who am I supposed to think fathered these children? Tristan?
#All Creatures Great and Small#ACGAS 1978#Not exactly the clearest description I've ever seen but definitely hilarious.#Tristan that's not how you're supposed to comfort Helen while James is away...#I think actually only Jimmy has been born by that point. But Wikipedia's entry (at least when I queued this) sounds like there's two kids.

digging through the archives again & i've found another little press interview with robert shaw that i quite like. sticking it here for ease of access in the future :> from an article published in the los angeles times in february 1971, as transcribed below:
Most public people get terribly lofty about seeing their names in print (“Of course it used to matter . . .”). Robert Shaw, the English actor-author, is, bless his heart, honest enough to say it matters terribly. “My hand shakes when I pick up the Daily Express. And I will be comforted by reading someone else’s bad notices, I admit it. It gets worse all the time. Old Harold Pinter says my great vice is other people’s opinions.” Robert Shaw is subject to more reviews than most since he is both a writer (novels, plays, screenplays) and an actor English enough to play Henry VIII (in the film “A Man for All Seasons”), international enough to play Gen. Custer (in a movie) and Elmer Gantry (in a Broadway musical that lasted one night), and intelligent enough to play Pinter (“The Caretaker,” “The Birthday Party”). “I’ve been asked so often which I prefer, writing or acting, that I’ve started to answer seriously. I obviously prefer acting because the rewards are much more immediate. Writing is so lonely, such an agony. I’m an extroverted, confident person and I’m thrown into this pain . . .” Then why write? “I do wish for immortality—I don’t know why—but I do wish to be remembered.” Robert Shaw studied acting at RADA, a bleak and hateful experience, during which he was advised to give up. He spent his first eight years as a professional playing Shakespeare and had a rough time. “As a young man I had no charm, I was all agression [sic]. Richard Burton had enormous charm, he could get on with people. What an extraordinary life! When he went off to Hollywood, we all said, there goes the golden boy.” The turning point came with his first novel, “The Hiding Place” (1960). “From having been treated as a stupid actor—‘I find it hard to believe you wrote that,’ they’d say—I began to be treated as intelligent. Directors wanted me for television. And that’s where I became a working class actor. I’m not, I’m English middle class really, but I got into all these new plays. It was marvelous.” At present, Shaw has two plays coming up, neither of which will earn him a penny, he cheerfully notes: One is set in an American prison. The other, to be performed in London by the National Theater Company this spring, is called “Cato Street.” Shaw has based it on an actual attempt in the early 19th century to murder the entire British government. The plotters are betrayed and executed. “I hang them all on stage,” Shaw said with relish. “All eight or nine of them.” He hopes “Cato Street” will feature Laurence Olivier who, he feels, droops under some of his duties as head of the National Theater. “He asked me how many acts my play had. ‘Three,’ I said. “‘Couldn’t you make it two?’ he asked me. I said why? “‘Because,’ he said; ‘then I’d only have to have one drink with the governors.’”
#the gantry play was literally just called gantry - and it did only go for one night. it was a musical! charming to imagine him singing!#i wish i knew what american prison play was being referenced though :/ it's not included in his written works on wikipedia#i have the good sense that there are at least a handful of his works that have since been lost to the depths of the archives#if not vanished entirely#he wrote poetry when he was younger (as per the little author bio in my copy of the hiding place)#which i would LOVE to read. but it was published under pseudonyms#and i. don't know what those pseudonyms were. much less if any of that poetry has survived til now ://#robert shaw#long post

Me removing a Graves reference and then realising the entire page is just shit.
#at least I am just resignedly adding them to my account’s Wikipedia page’s to-do list rather than just leaving the tab open#14 down btw#yesterday I got to write this whilst removing something:#There are several things wrong with Graves' interpretation#but the most damning is probably that no evidence of this ancient cannibalism has ever been found#and thus it cannot be an explanation for the myth.#It is unsuitable for an encyclopaedia to have an entire section be nothing more than a lengthy quote of dubious scholarship.#felt good ngl

i do think, aside from mercury bias, if bg had been in all season she would have been all wnba, first or at least second. i think people undervalue her because of the rebounding but she is 1000% the worst officiated player in the league, on both sides of the court. so the fact that she's been able to have the performance that she had is incredible, and that she didn't get the acknowledgment really just underscores how much people take what she does for granted.
#i saw something interesting that kim milky basically has her players specialize and so they come out of college less well rounded#exhibit a angel's shooting vs rebounding#and i didn't watch bg in college so maybe i'm totally wrong on this but maybe rebounding just wasn't he job#and then i saw on reddit or something that maybe because she is so poorly officiated she'd get called for too many fouls on rebounding#for it to be worth it#and while i understand the value of rebounding really i do the mercy's problem wasn't that they weren't trying#well sometimes it was but it was that their whole system wasn't designed for it#if you have 4 players on the perimeter to space and shoot 3#you're going to hope they go in and run the floor instead#teams that rebound well dedicate bodies and time to rebounding#and i believe that it was a conscious choice the merc made to not do that#and if you look at old merc games they struggled with rebounding then too#i actually will have more to say about this in the future but the mercury's style of play has lived and died with dt's style for 20 years#the mercury have the most 100 point games of any franchise#and they are responsible for most of the 200 point total scores across the league#ie their fast break and bad defense lol#and while it's not entirely true - she is not responsible for every result they've ever had - i don't think you get westhead's style of pla#to work without her talent and the penny cappie dt trio in 2006#or at least it isn't successful and maybe doesn't change the pace of play in the league the way it did#it's also interesting that if the lottery draw goes differently in 2006 and merc have the first pick do they get seimone or do they stick#cappie? i think they stick with cappie bc they needed a true pg and from what i've seen seimone is a 2/3#and i don't think dt becomes the player the league knows without having a true pg [vs her playing point]#the thing is dt can play point better than most people but i think she plays better when she has someone else there to help#and her talking about oh i should've won mvp in 2006 [when i dropped 40] [lisa leslie won that year]#and in 2014 [best team ever] [maya moore won that year]#you look at the stats and there is for sure an argument to be made there#but it all comes back to post players#and i know wikipedia says maya is a power forward but she seems like more of a 3 sometimes? i haven't watched her enough#but i don't think dt can win mvp in 2009 without that team specifically#which means [and this is my theory of life] that everything happens the way it has to happen for you to end up where you are today
