If you feel like it, will you expand on how you think they are still involved romantically in the end of onyx storm? Like I get that they are married but that seems to more to secure Violet’s future without him. It doesn’t seem to be because he has any hopes of any kind of future for the two of them together. Romantically or otherwise. He doesn’t want her to look for him. Aren’t they as broken up as they can be at this point? I’d love to hear your thoughts (and love another/different perspective because these thoughts I’m currently having are honestly making me feel ill).

Also thank you for your contributions to the fandom!! Honestly I think fanfic is the only thing that’s gonna get me through this. Hope we get an upsurge of riorgail fluff from everyone 🙏🏼

I have never felt like doing anything more, anon!!! I get what you're saying, and I think that's the way Rebecca/Red Tower WANT us to see it, because they want us to be anxious about where it's going so that we buy the next book. However, I refuse to subscribe to that! Here's why:

(I wrote an actual essay, so it's below the cut:)

"Together romantically" My answer to the other ask was me visiting the Xaden Liarson school of verbal gymnastics so that I didn't spoil the ending for that anon. However, judging by Xaden's behavior throughout ALL of Onyx Storm (and frankly, books 1 and 2 as well) he wouldn't marry her just to dip overall. Like, even not being meta here, he wouldn't do that. He's selfish when it comes to her, for one thing, and he says this repeatedly. For another, he CLEARLY wants to marry her just to marry her. I don't want to get sucked in to another re-read (and someone else asked for my thoughts on the ending in general, so I'll reply to that ask once I'm done with my second re-read in the next few days with more page numbers and quotes and things) but in the scene with his mother, Xaden's reaction seems to illustrate that marriage is NOT a tool for him like it was for his father. He wants to marry Violet because he loves her. Now, obviously the shotgun (crossbow?) wedding was ALSO a move to protect her and solidify her place without him as you said, but with how he talked about marriage throughout the book, and how he talked about HER, he's not marrying her just to dip. He's just not! It means something to him, as she does, and he's not going to forsake that.

Violet Violet isn't letting him marry her just to dip either. Her thoughts throughout the entire book are that she isn't scared of him and she isn't running, and she isn't letting him run from her, either. The way the scene is set up with Sgaeyl, we see:

(Sgaeyl) glances over her shoulder. "And you think she'll help?" "She loves me." "Tairn does not, and you haven't looked in the mirror yet. The red veins branching from your eyes look like her lightning." "She'll help." It comes out with a hell of a lot more certainty than I feel. "She promised."

I am slightly worried about pronoun fuckery in this bit, but we know Violet loves him more than anything, and this portion of Xaden's chapter makes it clear Violet has to agree to whatever the plan is (murdering dragons, stealing eggs, etc) and that Tairn does as well. I think Tairn would actually support them breaking up, to a certain degree, and whatever the plan is, Sgaeyl does NOT think Tairn will be down.

And then, for more confirmation:

"We will ask," Sgaeyl finally says, flexing her claws in the rocky soil "And her decision will determine our fate."

They need Violet on board for whatever they're doing. Violet isn't going to be on board with him dumping her post wedding. I know some of these lines can point in other directions, but I don't think they do, for the reasons I'll go on to spell out below!

3. Memories I know some people were confused about what, precisely, Imogen made Violet forget, and it seems like she's missing 12 hours (which, insane signet growth, Im). I could not get over Violet forgetting her wedding. Hours after I finished the book, I was like, oh my God. She can't remember her wedding, and I burst into tears. Repeatedly. At length. Which is insane, because these books NEVER make me cry. All this to say, (again, given Xaden's tone specifically surrounding marriage) they aren't going to take having her forget their wedding lightly. They just aren't. She has to forget everything in those twelve hours, because she helps Xaden concoct/finalize whatever the hell he's planning on doing (I'll probably share what I think he's planning on doing in my response to the ask I mentioned above, but the gist of it for now is that mans is going on a quest of his own), but Violet ASKS Imogen to make her forget. In the marriage aspect, Xaden's protecting Violet, but in forgetting, Violet's protecting Xaden. This is why I say romantically together as well. I think the love is more important than anything else. I think the point of this book was to make it clear they'd both do absolutely anything for the other, and the ending is a culmination of that. I know some people suggested that they have her forget so that she can't be interrogated and used against him, and I think that's definitely true (although I think making her duchess also protects her from this, but Violet has always doubted her own ability to lie). Personally, my gut instinct interpretation was that deal she made with Ridoc that she'd let Ridoc kill him if Xaden took being venin too far (which, side note, do we all just forget about them being interconnected when it suits us??? He can't die because then Violet will die. We've been over this. I digress). Clearly everyone seems to think his little "display" at the end of the book is "too far." I don't know if he killed anyone important in that scene (again, I actually thought Bodhi dies? At first? And THAT was why she had to marry Xaden to secure the duchy while he was gone? but Red Tower seems to be very in tune to fandom priorities, and with how many people love Bodhi, killing him off page would certainly be a choice) but he's still at least an Asim, if not a Sage (given the veins, I'm 99% sure he's a Sage, but again, we don't get anything concrete in that ending. side eye, Red Tower. side eye.) and therefore everyone thinks he betrayed them, and he needs to get out of there before everyone else kills him! By forgetting, Violet is saving his life. That's romantically together to me.

4. Quest! Xaden doesn't leave Violet to pull an Edward and frolic around Europe for a few months or whatever it is. He has a plan. This what he shows Sgaeyl, I believe, and what Vi and Tairn have to agree on. It involves stealing the dragon eggs, killing the elders and/or the other dragons (save me third re-read of this damn scene, save me) and getting the hell out. @maethologies told me privately that the very act of going on the Quest means Xaden has hope for a "cure", just like Violet said he still had hope if he was trying to get Brennan to mend him. I think this is the Second Krovlan Uprising tie in: trade the dragon eggs (side note: why are there 7? did Andarna steal an egg and bring it back ????) and get allies against the venin (and eventually Navarre) (and perhaps do other cure-related tasks, idk). I also personally think Xaden's going to find more answers for Violet about her connection with Dunne. A huge theme of this book was that (explicitly) Xaden and Andarna don't know who they are, but Violet doesn't really know either. She spends book 3 helping them, and in book 4, I think they help her. Basically, he returns to the isles for quest part 2! Also, I think bringing 3 riders with him is a clear sign he's not just dipping. I'm hoping my second re-read helps me finalize who the hell he brought with him besides Garrick, but if they go to the isles like I'm thinking, my moneys on Dain or Aaric for the language translation (both of whom love Violet). I have a variety of other quest nonsense to share in the other ask, but the gist of it is that he is moving with a purpose! And his purpose is Violet! Because he's in love with her!

5. Meta This is where I get a LITTLE messy. I don't know if everyone reading this saw my 2024 reading wrap up, but I have read the vast majority of RY's catalog, and I consider myself to be very familiar with the themes she likes to write, and the situations she likes to return to, over and over again. A HUGE focus for her is the war in Afghanistan. She's been obsessed with that for ten years, which makes complete sense given who she is and her lived experiences. If you happen to not be super familiar with Rebecca as a person, her husband was in the military for a very long time, and her primary sub-genre is military romance. I don't know if this carries over internationally, but in the United States, marrying your partner early on in your military career is incredibly common, because it protects them in the event of your death and while you're deployed. I was really upset about him marrying her and then immediately leaving at first, but when I thought about it, it makes complete sense for who Rebecca is and what she's gone through. I'm not trying to accuse her of self inserting or anything like that, but she clearly likes to write situations that are important to her (as do I! As do we all!) and so it makes sense to me that she'd call upon something like this for X and V. It does NOT make sense to me that she'd call upon something she went through with her husband she's still married to and then make it a break up. Will it cause tension? Obviously! But to quote Mr. Riorson himself, they're past the break up stage. (Rebecca does some silly things with foreshadowing in her books, and sometimes she says things like this to prove them wrong, and other times, she says things like this prove them right. I really think this is a "prove them right" scenario, but I'm basing that off vibes, frankly, and my knowledge of her body of work. My Rebeccca-dar, if you will.)

6. Xaden Liarson I see your point about the note, and maybe I'm deranged, but I do actually just think he's lying. I don't think he's stupid enough to think she won't come looking for him at this point. He knows her too well for that. I think the "don't come looking for me" or whatever it is is a cover up for everyone else who thinks he betrayed Tyrrendor. Also, it slows her down! I am certain she'll look for him eventually (peep her broken compass from the god of luck, anyone?), but the note + the memory wiping make it so she can't immediately go looking for him. I think that's the point of it, not that she never looks for him again.

To conclude this literal essay, I think they're still together romantically because of Riorgail's most up-to-date characterization on their own and dynamic together, as well as who Rebecca is as a writer. I actually could probably write another essay on this, and I probably will in the other ask, but if there's anything else, let me know!! I need to bleed this book out of me so I can be normal again. But even if they are "broken up", it doesn't matter long term. The five book series WILL end with them together. That's how romantasy works. Xaden isn't dying. Violet isn't dying. Everyone else is fair game, but those two are fine, LOL.

Also, you are SO welcome for fic, always. I am not a fluff girly, unfortunately. I don't really write it in general, but we'll see if I get possessed. I do have a girl dad Xaden fic in the works (in which I have to re-work their wedding....) and I have some new smut ideas I want to write sometime soon! I think that will scratch the itch for me, anyway! As I've mentioned throughout this post, my hangover cure of choice has been to dive right back into Onyx Storm again, and I honestly think that was the best idea for me. I didn't do that after Iron Flame because I thought it was somehow "bad" to do so, and then I just longed for these characters for months. But, you do you! Just as Jade knew that having you around was like having Grim around, you knew that dating Jade meant constantly living with Floyd.

So it was obvious that when you went to Devilton to meet your family, you would be taking both of them. Jade was against taking your brother at first, but gave in (You know he only said Floyd wouldn't go because he wanted to tease him a little).

When you arrived in Devilton, you told them to be careful when touching or/and eating anything, since poisons and curses are extremely common.

Which only made Floyd more out of control, you were happy that Jade managed to hold him back (it would be bad to start a fight here, especially since you didn't know how merfolk would fare in a fight with demons).

You decided to stop at a grocery store in Devilton to buy some Cursed Candy Apples to take to your brothers and some Apples of Truth for Jade to use when her One Magic had already been used on someone and no longer worked.

But when you noticed, the trio of two mers and a monster cat had disappeared and done one of the few things you didn't want them to do: eat something and get into a fight!!

Apparently Floyd and Grim found the names of some of the food at the stalls next door amusing and forgot to pay, when Jade tried to pay for them, the owner refused the Taumarks and didn't hesitate to get into the middle of the fight.

The fight:

Salesman, Jade, Floy and Grim: *Fighting with punches, kicks and magic*

Yuu: STOP IT!!

Jade, Floy and Grim: *Look at an angry Yuu*

Salesman and the other demons who joined the fight for fun: *recognizing MC*

When I thought about what Cater's proposal would be like, I initially thought he would do something as magically loving as possible.

But if you've gotten to the point where Cater proposes, I'm guessing you've been through a lot of ups and downs in your relationship and it must have been hard to break through the barriers he's built to protect himself from the world.

I think for Cater, it would be perfect if you proposed to him, in a quiet place with little to no movement.

Now, I'm sure he'd try to tell you that he's looking forward to meeting your family, but along the way make sure to calm his nerves (he's nervous to meeting your family).

Tell Cater that your family is a busy one and if your brother Asmo says something about Cater not being as beautiful as him, it's because Asmo believes he's the most beautiful person in the world, so there will never be anyone more beautiful than him.

I also think I made Cater more shy, I think that even though he's always smiling and taking pictures, he's still a very different person.

I thought that as the years went by, he would start to act more like himself, although I'm not sure.

And about Jade, I have no idea what came out in the end and if he's similar to Jade.

After Hours Head Canon: Christmas Edition

In response to my friend, @an-eclectic-of-mass-destruction, who sent me an ask on the topic, here’s a glimpse of Robert and Y/N’s first Christmas together as a couple…

🌟 Since his mother’s passing, Robert hasn’t really celebrated Christmas, except in the very surface-level way of office Christmas parties and generic Christmas cards to and from colleagues. He’s not too into Christmas, and it’s somewhat sad for him, due to the connection of the loss of his mother.

🎅🏼 Despite her own jovial attitude towards Christmas, Y/N knows that celebrating isn’t what Robert’s used to and that it’s a sensitive thing for him due to his mother’s death. So she is very respectful of that and tries not to overstep too much.

🎄 She gently probes Robert for stories of his childhood Christmases, and when he reveals that his mother always used to take him ice skating and then they’d decorate the tree together, Y/N tries to re-create that for him.

❄️ However, when she learns that Robert doesn’t even own an artificial Christmas tree or any ornaments, she encourages him to get them. At first, Robert brushes off the idea, saying that he’s survived this long without one and it isn’t necessary. However, as soon as Y/N asks him once more to go shopping for a tree and decorations, he’s quickly changing his mind, even though he’s still a bit reluctant.

🌟 “Please, Robbie?” Y/N begs him in a soft voice, giving him that little pout he can never say no to as she wraps her arms around his waist and presses against him. “I really want you to have a tree. It’s not Christmas without a tree!”

🎅🏼 Caving almost instantly, despite his better judgment, Robert agrees and lets Y/N drag him to the store for some holiday shopping. And she’s also insisting on getting a real tree rather than an artificial one.

🎄 Robert soon finds himself standing in the middle of a Christmas tree lot and being pulled around by the hand by Y/N as she makes him help choose a tree. And then he’s doing something he never thought he’d be doing, which is tying a live Christmas tree to the roof of his Bentley.

❄️ One of the rare occasions where Y/N uses Robert’s money to her advantage (she only ever does when she knows it’s something that will benefit Robert), she then walks around the store with no holding back as she grabs every single decoration and box of ornaments she wants to get, regardless of cost.

🌟 She also proceeds to buy them matching Christmas pajamas, and when Robert protests, Y/N just sweetly tells him to shush and puts them in the cart. After a kiss and another pout from Y/N, Robert’s no longer arguing.

🎅🏼 They then head to the ice rink, where they rent horribly crummy skates, and neither of them can stop laughing as they proceed to fall all over each other as they wobble their way around the ice.

🎄 Once they’re back at Robert’s, they put up and decorate the tree together, and as they do, Robert can’t help but smile as Y/N get so excited about it and he sees how much she just wants him to enjoy himself.

❄️ After they decorate the tree, Y/N asks Robert if there are any Christmas movies he likes, and when he reveals that he’s never seen White Christmas, Y/N proceeds to make them popcorn and bake some chocolate chip cookies (Robert’s favorite) before bringing it all into the living room with some apple cider and pulling up the movie on the TV.

🌟 Pajamas donned and snacks at the ready, they proceed to snuggle under a blanket on the couch and watch the movie, Y/N constantly side-eyeing Robert to see if he seems to be enjoying it.

🎅🏼 Towards the end of the movie, Y/N falls asleep against Robert, snuggled into his chest with his arms around her, and it’s the happiest Robert has ever felt, aside of course, from when he and Y/N finally got together.

🎄 When the movie ends, Robert tries not to wake Y/N up, but she surprises him by sleepily asking him, “Did you like it?” with her eyes still closed, and he smiles and gives her a kiss on the head. “I loved it,” Robert replies as he hugs her closer.

❄️ Opening her eyes and turning in his arms, Y/N tells Robert there’s still one thing they need to do. She then proceeds to pull a small bunch of mistletoe out that she had hiding behind the couch cushion.

🌟 Holding the mistletoe above their heads, Y/N leans forward and gives Robert a sweet kiss, but she’s soon dropping it when Robert pulls her into his lap. After a mini make-out session, Y/N pulls back from Robert slightly to look at him.

🎅🏼 “Thank you for letting me force all this on you,” Y/N says to him softly, stroking the nape of his neck as they look at each other with so much love.

🎄 “No,” Robert replies, shaking his head as he gives her an adoring smile. “Thank you for making this the best Christmas I’ve ever had.”

AITA for wanting a dog even though my sister/housemate does not?

To start, nobody is allergic to dogs or has a fear of them, she just doesn’t want it.

(if ages and gender are important, we’re both f in our early 20s)

I grew up on a farm with lots of animals. There were always cows, I had goats, there were chickens, ducks, barn cats and of course, 1-3 livestock guard dogs at a time.

When I was 16, I had a senior spaniel who had to be put down due to heart problems. Ever since I have been asking if I can have another dog but my parents have said no.

Around a year ago now I sold my goats and moved out of my parents house into an apartment. The apartment didn’t allow any pet bigger than my little gecko.

Then, about January, my older sister started messaging me with images of houses on a realtor site. So we looked at houses. I agreed to buy a house with her 1) so she could move out of our parents house and 2) because being by myself in the apartment with no real friends wasn’t really that good for my mental health.

To her credit, she did get a kitten from our farm and let me keep it, although I didn’t really want a house cat. The main reason I wanted a dog was for the amount of exercise it would need, and I would have to take it for long walks. Not to mention litter boxes aren’t my favourite thing to deal with. Still, I am glad I have a little animal to cuddle.

Additionally, most of the times when I bring up wanting a dog or getting a dog, it’s either in a jokey matter or it’ll be in contrast to something (for example there was a shady guy hanging around our street the other night and we don’t have an actual alarm for our house, so I went “yknow if we had a yappy little chihuahua it would be an alarm enough” or something like that) to which she will reply something short and growly along the lines of “you’re never getting a dog in my house”

Her reasons she gives for not wanting a dog? Number one, it’s “her” house. (It’s in both of our names, I paid half the down deposit and I pay half the mortgage and bills, and I pay for the Wifi. I’m not paying her rent, we both own it) Number 2, her friend is allergic to horses. (A friend that never comes over to our house anyway, and I understand fur allergies are complicated but it’s a dog. We aren’t anywhere NEAR horses! We live in town!) (this one is also BS because sister wants to buy a farm and have Clydesdale horses) Number 3, it sheds. We have a cat. The cat sheds more than the breeds of dogs that I really like or want. One of my favourites are the Xolo dog. Which has no hair. At all. Number 4, the cat is scared of dogs. (She isn’t. She’s never seen one in her life. I can get her used to having a dog around easily, even if she starts afraid. I’ve done it before when our parents have gotten new dogs around new cats.)

I’m not going to go behind her back and bring home a dog (even though there have been opportunities to get a free puppy multiple time) but I’m not going to stop wanting to have a dog or wanting to get one or talking about what dogs I like.

Our grandparents are moving to town and selling their farm next year, which sister wants to buy with me. I told her I’d like to move out of town into a farm, but only if she let me get either a dog or a donkey to protect our property against coyotes. (Especially considering we both want chickens if we get a farm)

She got really pissy at me about that, and stormed off. AITA here? I think she’s being a little unreasonable. I’m not a bad pet owner at all, I work with my animals as much as possible. I had my billy goat following me around the farm without a lead before I sold the goats, for pineapple’s sakes!

Seven: means a lot of mushiness. Seven is very free with their love. They will stare at you a lot and when you confront them they’ll just shrug and say “sorry you’re just so [insert compliment here].” Seven likes to take a lot of photos and expect songs written about you and many mixtapes. That’s how they communicate everything they feel: through mixtapes and songs. As I mentioned before, seven is also touchy, though it depends on MC’s comfort level, but their default is touching all the time. Always connected, as if permanently linked. Seven will always have at least one finger on you at all times 😭 they’re a clinger, like I said, they sort of act like a needy puppy who wants attention all the time. Pouty. Whining, but in an endearing way.

Orion: means romance in private. Orion is good with all the normal relationship stuff he just tends to cringe more over it LMSJSJS but in private, he is surprisingly romantic and sheepish? He’ll set up a whole five-course date and then play it off like “it was nothing” Orion is also someone who does a lot of things without thinking about it. He’ll buy something for MC and very casually say “this made me think of you so here” and while it may seem like it’s a big deal, it just comes naturally to him. He’s a bit possessive, but not an unhealthy amount? More in a protective way. What you saw in the demo during the interview is what Orion is like with a partner. In public he is a bit less affectionate, but in private there will be a lot of lingering touches, a lot more affection. Orion wouldn’t want to leave MC’s side, even if he doesn’t always vocalize it. He also gets a bit more reckless and loses that sort of “workaholic” habit of his (aka willing to ditch work to stay with MC.)

Victoria: mush, mush, mush. She’s super affectionate and loves PDA and everything that comes with romance. Victoria will shower her partner with constant love and support. She isn’t shy to express how much she misses someone, and will write long letters about how she feels. She wants to shout her love on the rooftops and is a bit clingy like Seven. She wants to be smothered and smothers in return. Hugging constantly; always has herself wrapped around her partner. Random kisses, random gifts. She will take her partner to every event. She does get a bit jealous but nothing too bad, especially considering her experience. She’s a very sweet lover who is proud of her partner.

Seb: Seb can be quite shy. His affection comes with a lot of hesitance and is not as loud, but sweet all the same. He likes to ask permission a lot (‘can I kiss you?’ ‘can I hold your hand?’) and is the type to pick out a flower from the grass and gift it to MC lol I can’t say much about Seb aside from the fact that he does sort of act like a young kid who is in his first stages of love. He questions himself often but there are moments of confidence that are surprising. He’s also protective like Orion, and likes to be entangled all the time (see: hugging from behind.) he’s more of a go-with-whatever-MC-is-doing type. If MC wants to get wild, he’ll get wild. If not, he’s okay with that too.

G: a lot of touching, a lot of kissing. G won’t care about anyone else in the room if you’re around. They won’t even pay any mind to anyone else. G’s love can be sort of intense in the sense that they aren’t shy about sharing how they don’t gaf about anyone else but you. They want to be on top of their partner all the time. Hip to hip, shoulder to shoulder. They want to spend all their time together. All their free time goes to them. G will include them in every convo. They won’t want to do anything fun or new without their partner. They’ll talk about them all the time. Ask where they are, look for them constantly. Moan about how they just want to talk to them or see them. G will become insufferable once they are apart. Like some bratty child. G turns into a completely different person when they’re in love.

August: means August is always thinking of their partner’s well-being. Always by their side. August will send them links to songs and videos that remind them of them and casually boast their partner’s accomplishments to anyone who will listen. They kind of lose a bit of their coolness and get a bit dorky around people they like; fumbling over their words, turning clumsy, getting shy. One day she goes to the store and tries to buy something to eat, she doesn't quite have enough and that's when a man with long ebony hair in his twenties intervenes. He offers to cover the rest.

"Thank you sir" she thanks him.

"I can't let a child go hungry" he tells her before inspecting her. Telling that she's not eating healthy (due to them not having access to fresh meals) and gives her some cash and tells to use it to get a proper meal before leaving.

After numerous bump ins with the man darling grows friendly with him. Due to her parents working late he offers to occasionally get her dinner. He asks her about her life. How's school? What subjects does she like? What does she like to do in her spare time. For darling it's great to have someone who cares about her and listens to her.

Then one day darling is confronted at school by a bully and it turns violent and darling is covered in bruises and split skin from the fight. Darlings parents don't even answer the schools calls and is forced to stay behind for detention.

She's surprised to see Bruno waiting at the school for her but she bursts into tears and embraces him.

"Who did thus too you" he asks and she points to the bully who also just left. So he walks up to them and their mother with darling in tow.

"Excuse me ma'am but what your child has done is inexcusable" he tells the woman who scoffs.

"My child wouldn't do such a thing without a reason to, she started it" she tells him.

"Well I find that hard to believe, I want you to make them apologize and correct your child's behavior... otherwise there will be consequences" he hisses.

"Who do you think you are?" She asks with shock.

Despite his warning she doesn't and leaves. After he gets some supplies and tends to darlings injuries.

As much as it hurts she has to clarify to them that man wasn't her actually father, she tells him what she knows which isn't a lot and she's given a talk by the police about trusting strangers and how people do what he does to draw in girls like her to take advantage of. She's adamant he'd never do such a thing but it does make her question her relationship with Bruno, he's never mentioned anything about himself she was so caught up in feeling seen that she didn't one consider the situation as a whole. What if had made sure of the consequences he warned of.

A few days later there's a knock at the door and darling opens it. It's Bruno.

"Bruno, the police want to see you" you told him.

"I've already talked with them" he lies.

Some new g3 MH dolls dropping this year, so I (someone that does not collect dolls) am once again giving my ratings/opinions of them that nobody asked for:

I'm gonna just say it, I enjoy Frankie significantly more when they take the neon yellow out of their outfit lmfao. Don't get me wrong, the neon pink/blue/yellow look works for them, I just prefer it w/o.

so suffice to say, color palette wise, I like this Frankie.

now, their actual fit itself... I like some aspects of it more than others. Things I like: The dress (I think the one poofy sleeve works for them), and the hair piece and earrings.

I also really like their face on this doll, it's very pretty! I don't remember what color Frankie's eyebrows usually are, but this dark blue shade looks nice, and I like their lipstick.

Things I don't hate in themselves but would change in some way: I think the blue strappy bits of their shoes would have looked better either as the same silver color as the rest of the shoe or black. The necklace I also think should have been silver, to match the rest of their accessories.

Also, I'm on the fence about the pink, I wonder if it might have just looked more cohesive overall to have just left it out? I almost feel like their isn't enough pink in the rest of the outfit to make the accent bits of pink work with it? Maybe a pink hairclip in their bangs would have helped?? Idk.

As per usual, I love Cleo's look. Her balloon is a scarab that is kinda heart shaped...that's cute. I do wish they'd given her some stockings or tights or something?? maybe some stockings with li'l black bows to match her arms, and to carry the black down to her legs, but also it looks fine without.

Cleo's always just so pretty...

I DO wish they'd be more experimental in her hairstyles, tho, I feel like it's almost always a High-Pony for her, which, she rocks it, but it'd be nice to see them do summin else !!

CUPID!!! I'm excited to see her be brought over into g3 style. :)

I love that they gave her big poofy curls, very cute. Also I'm glad that they kept her heart lipstick!!

I like her upper eyelashes being white, so they stand out against her make-up.

I like the little heart marks under her eyes, but I don't like the three on top lid—maybe if they were different sized hearts, instead of all being the same size??

I also like that they carried over the black of her legs, but I wish they'd kept it on her arms, too.

Glad to see they kept her bone-wings, though.

Her outfit... I like the red and gold, and I expect there to be pink but I feel like there were better ways it could've been incorporated; I think the pink lace would have looked better black. Instead, the XOXO of her headband could have been painted pink, so it'd be more easily visible (also the arrow thru the heart should have been black), and one of the hearts on each of her shoes could've been pink instead of both hearts being red. Also the blue hearts of her headband is SO random, I think THOSE should have been pink, literally nowhere else on her outfit is blue...

Draculaura, as always, is my fave.

This hairstyle for her is very cute (and also a first? I know g3 drac has been given pigtails before, but not yet with bangs?? It's cute).

Once again I think some stockings or tights or something would've been a cute addition, but the doll certainly isn't ruined by not having them.

I DO wish the pink of her shoes was a lighter pink, so it would match everything else she's wearing, instead of being a darker pink, but the darker pink at least matches her present and balloon.

speaking of her shoes, I DO wish they'd put in the effort of painting the obvious strings of pearls to be white, so they'd match w/ the other pearls of her accessories.

Also I like that they gave her gloves (I feel like Cupid ALSO could've benefited from gloves if they didn't want to carry over the black on her arms from g1, it would've been a nice nod, at least. I can see lots of doll customizers buying up extras of this drac to swap her hands w/ Cupids, for that purpose actually).

i have to talk about the kellys from scarlet hollow. i HAVE to. or more specifically i have to talk about dr. joan kelly and her relationship with reese. SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 4 OF THE GAME!! (also this is gonna get super long)

the "supernatural child held hostage by their caretaker/parental figure out of fear" trope is nothing new, and i've seen it done well. while it can serve as an allegory for lots of things, it hits VERY hard with me as someone who's been institutionalized for most of their childhood due to mental illness and disability. that kinda isolation can lead to severe self-doubt, trust issues and pent up anger.

scarlet hollow is my new favorite example of this trope, because it does something i don't often see: it humanizes the abuser and paints a realistic, tragic picture of it all from the perspectives of both parties, while giving the audience full control over their own perspective. and it becomes all the more scary and relatable to me for it.

let me start out by being very clear - dr. kelly is an abuser. i'm using that word in the most literal sense: abuse is about control. abuse is about consciously taking away someone's authority over their own life and denying them basic needs/rights. that DOESN'T mean it has to come from a place of malice or hatred!! joan explicitly states that she loves her son, and that she hates doing what she does, but she's also explicitly aware of what it means for them both. she knows what she's doing, she knows it'd be unacceptable if it wasn't necessary - and she's an abuser for it.

but the thing that really gets me about her? it's the fact that this is ALL ON HER. it's LITERALLY a self-fulfilling prophecy.

according to her, reese first showed symptoms of not being totally human as a preteen, which worried her but wasn't enough to warrant any action. it was only after a violent outburst that she started seeing him as a threat to be dealt with. what's interesting and REALLY IMPORTANT to note here is that despite this, despite genuinely fearing what was now a monster in her eyes... she still saw reese as her son. or more accurately; she also saw that monster as her son. her desire to keep him alive is almost entirely driven by not wanting to kill what used to be just her son. she mourned him too much. she still does.

what dr. kelly's internal conflict comes down to is less about ethics and more about responsibility. if you condemn her at any point for the torture she's inflicting on reese, she'll make it very clear that this is "the lesser evil" to her. it's not something she enjoys, but she does not want to feel guilty for it, because it's not guilt that's trapping her; it's fear. fear and stubbornness. an inability to see or work past the grave she dug for herself years ago out of fear. she was acting desperately when she decided to poison and isolate him to keep him docile, and reese was just a kid back then. but now he's an adult, and in all that time, joan has come to terms with her choice, and that desperation has turned into stoic complacency. she's fully internalized this as a permanent solution. and also, in all that time, she has NEVER once considered an alternative.

and that's the kicker. ask yourself; what would have happened if she tried anything else? what would have happened if these security measures were always meant to be temporary, so that she could buy time for both of them to calm down and talk about it together? what would have happened if she did nothing at all, and just put her trust in reese himself? would it have been more or less risky to take a different route while he was still a kid?

the answer is that we'll never know any of these things because joan never tried. as soon as she saw her child as A Problem, her first instinct was to subdue him and lock him away from the world, without directly harming him. and she spent the next several years never regretting that decision, even as she watched reese grow chronically ill and more depressed by the second, even as they stopped treating each other like family, even as she could feel herself becoming afraid of him again with how much more unpredictable he is as self-aware adult.

everything about this is just..... so so SO familiar to me that it makes me wanna scream. there's no recipe for hopelessness quite like a parent taking away your chance at a normal childhood for reasons you couldn't understand, and only really seeing it for what it was years later when you're old enough to make your own judgements, all because they were scared to admit that they might've been wrong.

if i had a maw like that i would've been on the news.

Definitely Uraraka! she always kisses toga's forehead and nose to show that she loves and cares for her. She does this every day before going to work.

2- Gets jealous the most

Okay, it would definitely be Toga. Himiko's jealousy is not exactly possessive, but rather insecure jealousy. She's afraid that Ochako will find someone better and "less weird" and end up leaving her. Even when Uraraka's assurances that this won't happen, she still has insecurities about it which ends up resulting in jealousy of anyone she doesn't know and talks to Uraraka.

3- Picks the other up from the bar when they're too drunk to drive

I thought a lot and came to the conclusion that Himiko doesn't like alcohol. She seems to be someone who likes sweet drinks, and despite having sweet alcoholic drinks she avoids them because she believes she doesn't need alcohol to have fun. But there are exceptions, and in these exceptions Ochako always goes to look for her little girlfriend in the bar. Himiko does the same for her, but she doesn't know how to drive 😭😭 so she gets a ride from one of her friends to drop her off at Uraraka's apartment

4- takes care of on sick days

I can perfectly imagine Ochako taking care of a sick and spoiled Himiko and I can also imagine Himiko taking care of a very stubborn Ochako.

Uraraka HATES hospitals so she does everything to avoid them, so she's always ends up accepting Toga to take care of her despite being extremely stubborn and swearing that "I can take care of myself"

5- Drags the other person out into the water on beach day

Himiko! She doesn't see the point of a beach day without going into the water, so she drags Ochako with her and always ends up forgetting to put on sunscreen. One time she ended up all burned and was mumbling for hours because her skin hurt 💔😞 Uraraka never let her forget again

THIS IS SO HIMIKO CODED

She likes to text her girlfriend about ANYTHING even though she knows Ochako won't respond right away. She uses kamojis (mainly the ":333") and sends Uraraka a lot of pictures of herself or little things about her day and Uraraka LOVES IT. If Toga ever stopped texting about everything, she would definitely find it weird

7- Drives/rides shotgun

As I said before: I'm pretty sure Himiko doesn't know how to drive, at least not yet. So she always gets rides from her girlfriend to go places. After all, Ochako knows how to drive (in my head...) And if Himiko were to ever drive, it would be a motorcycle!!!

BOTH!!! but one detail: toga doesn't know how to cook very well, so it's always a surprise if the food is going to be half-burnt or raw. Her specialty is making sweets, but she doesn't only live on sweets, so she trains a lot to cook something delicious and healthy for ochako. She always stares at Uraraka while they're eat together just to make sure that it's really tasty...

And when the food isn't good, ochako goes out to buy them something to eat. Money has always been something that Uraraka lacks in her life, so when she spends it on food for herself and her girlfriend, she just feels so happy and fulfilled. It's something important to her. Is a way of saying that she cares about Himiko and that she's happy that she can buy something for both of them.

Honestly, I don't think Himiko would do that. She's certainly not innocent, but she's a little too shy and ashamed to try something. Especially something like RPG. I believe that in the beginning she would be very embarrassed and insecure, she wouldn't know what to do and would be more lost than ochako (who is also embarrassed and insecure).

And after talking and spending a lot of time together, they would stop being so embarrassed and insecure and could try new things. I don't think RPG would be one of them, because in RPG you need to make a character and Himiko wants Ochako and only her. Just like Ochako wants Toga and only that.

Himiko would buy him clothes and Ochako would very reluctantly let him sleep in them despite the fact that they shed a lot of hair...
