Chasing Butterflies 🦋

The sun was shining brightly over the paddock as the sounds of whirring engines and bustling teams filled the air. It was a lively scene, filled with energy, but there was one tiny figure who brought her own special kind of joy to the paddock. Yn, Fernando’s four-year-old daughter, was skipping through the area, clutching a small stuffed bear in one hand while chasing butterflies with the other.

“Careful there, Yn!” Lando called out, grinning as he watched her toddle around near the garages. “Don’t run too far!”

Yn giggled, not really paying attention to his warning. “Butterflies don’t wait!” she chirped back, her voice full of determination.

“Looks like she’s got the Alonso focus already,” George joked, leaning against the Mercedes garage as he watched her.

Charles was nearby, sipping a water bottle and laughing softly. “She might be more competitive than we are. Look at her go!”

Max, leaning against the Red Bull garage, gave a small chuckle. “At least she’s not trying to race us yet. Give her ten years.”

As Yn ran past, Lewis crouched down, holding out his hand for a high-five. She stopped briefly, giving him a big slap on the hand before darting off again. “That’s my girl!” he called after her.

Oscar was sitting on a small folding chair, fiddling with his race gloves. “Should someone… keep a closer eye on her? I mean, I know she’s having fun, but—”

“She’s fine,” Pierre cut in, smiling. “She’s tough. Like her dad.”

But just as Pierre said that, Yn, in her enthusiastic chasing of the butterfly, tripped over a loose cable on the ground. There was a collective gasp as she fell forward, landing hard on her arm with a sharp cry of pain.

“Yn!” Carlos was the first to shout, sprinting over to her. He was quickly followed by Charles and Lewis, while the rest of the drivers abandoned whatever they were doing and ran toward her.

Yn was sitting on the ground, clutching her arm tightly, tears streaming down her face. Her cries were heart-wrenching, and the drivers instantly surrounded her in concern.

“It’s okay, Yn, we’re here,” Lewis said gently, kneeling beside her. “Shh, shh, don’t cry.”

“I—it hurts!” Yn sobbed, her little face scrunched up in pain.

“Her arm doesn’t look right,” Oscar pointed out, his face pale as he noticed the awkward angle of her tiny forearm.

“Alright, we need to get her to the medical center. Now,” Max said, his voice unusually firm.

“On it,” George said, carefully picking Yn up in his arms. “It’s okay, Yn. We’ll fix you up in no time.”

She buried her face in George’s shoulder, still crying, and he began walking briskly toward the medical center, the other drivers close behind.

Inside the medical center, Fernando was already waiting. He had heard the commotion over the radio and had rushed there immediately. When he saw George carrying Yn inside, her tear-streaked face red with pain, his heart sank.

“Mi pequeña,” Fernando said softly, his voice breaking slightly as he reached out to take her from George. Yn immediately wrapped her good arm around her father’s neck, crying into his shoulder.

“Papá! It hurts so much!” she wailed.

“I know, I know, cariño,” Fernando whispered, sitting down in one of the chairs and holding her on his lap. He stroked her hair gently, speaking to her in rapid Spanish. “Tranquila, mi amor. Papá está aquí. Todo estará bien. Te prometo.”

The doctor approached, carefully examining Yn’s arm. “It looks like a clean break,” he said. “We’ll need to put it in a cast.”

Yn whimpered at the mention of a cast, clinging even tighter to Fernando. “No! I don’t want it!”

Fernando kissed her temple, continuing to soothe her. “Shh, mi amor. Es solo un yeso. Será rosa, como a ti te gusta. Y papá estará contigo todo el tiempo.”

The doctor smiled gently. “We can definitely make it pink. Let’s get started.”

Fernando kept Yn on his lap the entire time, holding her close as the doctor worked. He murmured soft words in Spanish the entire time, telling her stories about brave princesses and how proud he was of her for being so strong. Yn eventually stopped crying as the pain dulled and the cast was carefully secured around her arm.

“See, mi amor? All done. Eres mi campeona,” Fernando said, smiling as he wiped her tears away.

Yn sniffled, looking at her bright pink cast. “It’s pretty…”

“Of course it is. Just like you,” Fernando said, pressing a kiss to her forehead.

When they returned to the paddock, the drivers were waiting anxiously. As soon as they saw Yn, they rushed over.

“Hey, champ,” Lando said softly, crouching down to her level. “That’s a cool cast you’ve got there.”

Yn nodded shyly, still holding onto Fernando’s hand.

“Really,” Oscar said with a smile, handing her the stickers. “I’ll help.”

Soon, all the drivers were gathered around Yn, helping her stick tiny jewels, flowers, and even a little race car sticker onto her cast.

“There,” Charles said proudly. “That’s a cast fit for a champion.”

Yn giggled, looking at her now-sparkly pink cast. “Thank you!”

“You’re welcome,” Max said, ruffling her hair. “But no more running around, okay? We don’t want you getting hurt again.”

“I won’t,” Yn promised, clutching her father’s hand.

Fernando looked around at the group of drivers, a small smile on his face. “Thank you, all of you, for taking care of her.”

“Of course, Fernando,” Lewis said. “She’s part of the family.”

Yn looked up at her dad, smiling brightly despite the cast on her arm. “Can I still chase butterflies?”

Fernando laughed softly, scooping her up in his arms. “Maybe… after the race. But next time, I’ll chase them with you.”

Meeting him at the airport in Atlanta seemed like an accident. That time you only smiled at each other, casually chatting over the traffic at the check in.

Next time it was weird. Busy airport in London, you tired as hell, sitting in the lounge after your flight was delayed for about three hours already.

"Mind if I sit?" the deep voice interrupted your annoyed thougts, ready to snarl something harsh at whoever wanted to disrupt your peace. Only to see him.

Immediately you sit up, brush your messy hair from your face a little, smiling softly. "Oh, of course, just sit."

He sat beside you, sipping his coffee from a Starbucks cup.

"Starbucks, really?"

Looking at the cup, where the name "George" was written, he just smiled softly. "At this early hour, there wasn’t any better coffee shop opened, so this must be enough."

You chuckled at his words, your gaze lingering over the cup. "So... George?"

He looked up to meet your eyes. "What? Yeah, sorry, I'm George."

Offering his hand to you in a handshake, you also said him your name.

"Well, how long are you waiting?" he asked while taking a sip of his coffee.

"An hour already, and another three are just before me. Today is a lucky day."

"Maybe it is and you don't know it yet." his smile was mysterious, like if he was implying something.

You just shook your head with soft smile. "It’s really weird to meet you for the second time in a month."

"I'm just at more places than you can think. I travel a lot, so the possibilities of meeting me are high."

"Mhm.. and where are you heading to?"

"Originally, I was about to catch a flight to Monaco, but my plans changed, so I'm off to Spain."

"Oh, Monaco? So you’re some kind of millionaire?"

"No, I.. I just sort of live there." He chuckled, not really into conversation about his reasons he lived there.

You looked at him suspiciously, but your tired brain brushed it off.

Third time was a charm. As you got through the gates at the aiport in Singapore, the humid weather hitting you like a train, when you step outisde to catch a cab. While you were looking through your phone to find a location of your hotel, you bumped into someone. Trying to apologize, you looked up to see, who you bumped into. George.

Your brows shot up in surprise and he seemed surprised too. "Well, hello."

He put his hands over your shoulders, looking a little concerned. "Are you okay? I wasn’t looking and the bump was rather hard."

His worry flattered you, especially when he was soooo good looking as always. But now he had his hair more grown out, styling them in the soft curls.

"No, I'm okay, that's alright."

"Do you want a ride? My driver is here, so I can get you to your hotel if you want. You look a little lost, if I'm being honest."

"That would be nice. It's my first time here, so I'm not used to the weather, which is exhausting and I feel drained already."

"Oh, tell me about it." his smile was smug, as if he was hiding something, but you haven’t noticed.

The ride to the hotel was quiet as you took in the interior of the car. It was black sleek Mercedes, god knows which series or year, you weren’t exactly into cars or that stuff.

Last time in London you chatted through that hours you were waiting for your flight. But you never exchanged numbers. Strange, wasn’t it? However your connection seemed to be genuine and you kind of loved the thing how it was mysterious.

“Miss, we’re here.” The driver interrupted your reel of thoughts as you looked outside of the car, to see your hotel. Turning your gaze at George, for the first time you felt strange for leaving him. What if this is the last time you see him?

“Will I ever see you again?”

George took in her frowning expression, his smile warm. “You never know.”

In the different language it was saying I’m not giving you my number.

You just nod. “Thanks. For a ride. It was nice to see you, again.”

After that, you got off the car along with your suitcase, disappearing into the hotel without ever looking back, because then George would see your sad face. It was stupid. This man, who you met for a three times and you think that you have some claim on him? No. He was just a stranger, who happened to coincidentally meet you.

Right after New Years you flew back to London, getting on with your tight schedule of your work. Looking through your iPad, you sat at the small coffee shop, sipping your coffee, not giving attention to your surroundings.

“I guess this coffee is definitely better than that damn Starbucks.” Deep voice speaking at your table got you looking up from your work, only to catch his beautiful smile.

“I might start to think that you stalk me.” Your amused smile making him laugh.

“I’m sorry, it just happens that I’m meant to cross the path with you from time to time. Nothing personal. But I noticed you sitting here, so I thought that saying hi would be nice.”

“Yeah, thanks. Good to see you.”

The awkward silence felt so loud between you two.

“Well, good luck with anything you’re working on now.” His smile was soft, making your stomach feel the butterflies, his lips over the lid of the coffee cup, sipping the coffee.

You gave him a kind smile, your eyes trying not to reflect the disappointment in your heart. “Thank you. You too, mysterious stranger.”

George just chuckled and walked out of the coffee shop.

Sitting there, looking to the void, you thought for a moment to run after him, to jump into his embrace and just like in any cheesy romcom you would kiss like a fated soulmates. But quickly you fell back to the ground, your life far from perfect and this was just another of coincidences.

While you were getting to your hotel by the tube at the evening hours, curiosity got the best of you and you tried your best with your stalking skills. Writing into google something like George and 63, because that was a number you saw on his phone case, so it definitely meant something important, you nearly passed out on the floor, your mouth went wide open.

George Russell was a formula one driver. Mercedes. Mesmerising blue eyes and tall toned figure. God’s finest work.

And that was a moment you took your chance to twist those coincidences into your favour. Getting out of the tube at the nearest station, you practically ran through the escalator and now you were standing outside somewhere in London. Looking through some tabloids, you found the location of his hotel he was staying in. It was bold to go there, but it was always him, who happened to meet you and now it was for you to meet him.

He was staying in one of those fancy and expensive hotels he had a sponsorship with. Trying to compose yourself, you managed to get to the reception, getting attention from a guy at the desk.

“Hello, I’m here to meet with Mr. Russell, he told me to come here to his hotel, I’m his personal photographer.” You were pretty confident and impressive, even handing over your photograph licence, which was very good luck you had it on yourself along with your expensive camera.

The guy looked at you with measured gaze, suspicious for a moment, but then he clicked something in the computer and gave you a keycard to the elevator which led to the secluded entrance for the special guests.

“Here it is, Mr. Russell expressed himself that he’s awaiting his photographer, so you’re clear to go.”

The guy smiled politely, you thanked him, while your mind was buzzing with how LUCKY you were. Or was is just another coincidence?

No, it was fate.

Elevator dinged at the level of the special area, you got out of it, walking to the door with, hold on for a moment, a number 63 on it. Shaking your head in amusement taking in a sharp breath, you knocked at the door. What was you even doing? This was crazy. Nonsense. You should go back to your hotel and never come back. You’re embarrassing yourself.

The door opened, revealing George in the comfortable slacks and hoodie. His eyes went wide, when he saw you.

Your breath caught in your chest, your eyes wide the same as his. “Hey.”

“Hey. What are you doing here?” He wasn’t upset, he looked much more… happy?

“Long story short, I found out you’re the formula one driver, then a location of your hotel and I managed to convince the receptionist, that I’m your personal photographer. Crazy, right?”

Talking fast because of your nerves, you chuckled, a little unsure about what you just did. Was it too much?

His hand reached to your cheek, gently tracing his fingers across it. “I guess that fate is trying to set us together. This isn’t a coincidence anymore…”

“Well, it’s funny, but I think so too. You’re constantly on my mind even though I don’t want to admit it. I long for your presence since that chat at the London airport. I wished, that we had more time in Singapore. Can I at least stay a bit longer, right here right now?”

His smile made your heart flutter in your chest, his hands cupping your cheeks now, his tall figure towering over you.

“Stay forever.”

And with that he pulled you into his room, closing the door, not letting you go for another lifetime.

the day had been long. far too long. you trudged home, shoulders slumped, and heart heavy from yet another exhausting day at work. the office had been suffocating, a blur of too many meetings, missed deadlines, and long hours of staring at a computer screen. your feet dragged against the floor as you entered your apartment, the familiar hum of the space doing little to soothe the storm raging in your mind.

you weren’t expecting george to be home yet. he’d been away, off to one of those races that seemed to take him all over the globe, leaving you in the quiet space you’d carved out together. the apartment wasn’t much, just a cozy one-bedroom with too many plants and an assortment of mismatched furniture, but it felt like home. your home.

you had pushed the door open when you spotted a familiar note on the table.

"I'm not far – don't worry. I'll be back soon. Xoxo, George"

the scribbled words brought a small smile to your face, but it was brief. you sighed deeply, feeling the weight of the day still hanging on your shoulders.

"hey," a voice suddenly broke through your thoughts, and you turned to see george standing in the doorway, a playful grin on his face.

he was home early.

"bad day?" he asked, his eyes soft with concern.

you nodded, a lump formed in your throat as you didn't know how to explain the frustration that had developed inside you. george took a few steps closer to you and pulled you close into his warm embrace. you melted into his arms, resting your head on his chest.

"want to forget it all for a bit?" he asked, pulling back slightly to give you a look of genuine kindness. before you could answer, he was already pulling you toward the living room.

"i've got a surprise for you."

george had a knack for making even your worst days a little brighter. it was one of the things you loved most about him. he never let you dwell too long on the bad, always knowing how to distract you, how to make you laugh, how to make you feel loved. today, that meant a blanket fort.

the living room soon became overrun, pillows strewn all over the place, blankets piled high in a great, messy jumble. george had clearly been tinkering with it for some time, a small smile creeping up onto his face as he turned to look at you for approval.

"your turn," he said, handing you a few more cushions, and a blanket to add to the fortress he'd created.

you couldn't help but laugh at the weight of the day being lifted with every step. you assisted him in completing the fort, draping the soft fabric over the furniture to create a small cave-like sanctuary. finished, you both crawled inside, curling up together under the blankets, surrounded by an army of pillows.

george had hooked up the television; soon you were sitting together in your favorite movie. that's always what you watched together, despite your mutual knowledge of each word of dialogue. the hours slid by as you became both more relaxed and snuggled deeper into the warmth of the blankets, and the soft luminescence of the tv.

"see? much better, right?" george whispered, his arm draped over your shoulders.

you nodded, resting your head on his chest, grateful for the comfort of his presence. you could feel the steady beat of his heart beneath your ear, the rhythm like a lullaby. this, you thought, was exactly what you needed: his warmth, his attention, his love.

later that night, after the movie had ended and the fort had collapsed around you both, you stood up to stretch, trying to ignore the tiredness in your body. you moved past the mirror in the corner of the room, and your eyes landed on something you hadn't expected.

behind the glass of the mirror, placed so delicately, was an old polaroid. you froze for a second, and the view made a tug on your heartstrings. it was a shot of you and george in each other's arms with a wide smile for the camera in a quiet park. the photo was old with slight wear, edges curled, but the joy on the faces of both of you was still visible.

you hadn’t noticed it before. in fact, you hadn’t even realized that george had put it there.

curious, you stepped closer, running your fingers along the edges of the polaroid. you felt a surge of emotion rise in your chest, and for the first time that day, your eyes threatened to fill with tears, but this time, they were good tears.

when you turned around, george was there, watching you with a knowing smile.

"you found it, huh?" he said softly.

you nodded, your voice a little shakier than you'd like. "i didn't even know it was here."

"it's for you," george said, his eyes warm as he crossed the room toward you. "i put it there a while ago, just in case you ever needed a reminder." he paused, his gaze never leaving yours. "of how much you mean to me."

the words hit you harder than expected, and before you could stop yourself, you pulled him into a hug, burying your face in his chest. "i love you," you whispered, feeling the full weight of those words. "so much."

george smiled, his arms wrapping around you tightly. "i love you too."

as you stood there, all wrapped up in his arms, you realized just how much you were really grateful for him. how lucky you were to have found that person who made even the hardest days feel manageable. someone who cared so much about you, whose love was as constant and reliable as the warmth of the blanket fort you'd built together.

you couldn't wait to spend forever with him.

Everyone kind of boos him for it but then half way through the month he gets to be smug while they’re all miserable and complaining, because he can fuck his girlfriend whenever he wants.

He’s uninterested in the things most of the grid do in their spare time, and he knows they’re uninterested in him too. They don't need to know about his sex life, but what people can guess is that it is very much alive. 

I mean… you two had a baby literally 8 months after your wedding, to the day. 

The other 3 kids don't exactly help his case… 

He’d say yes, just so he could be added to the group chat and he would tell you who is winning and losing.

He’d lose on the first day with no shame. Everyone knows he's just here for the public shaming of others.

George Russell: would win

Not saying he’s not a freak in the sheets, but he would set up the entire thing (group chat, the money pool, etc.) and he cannot be seen lacking.

You do make the entire month absolute torture though. 

Matching sets, showing as much skin as possible, everything. 

Even walking around the apartment naked. 

But somehow, he doesn’t budge. 

At the end of the month he does fuck you for ages, and you literally cant get out of bed, let alone follow him to a race. He tells the media you’re sick and all of the drivers have the dirtiest laughs as he explains. Despite every question, they keep their mouths shut. 

George did announce that he won at the end, much to your chagrin.

Alex Albon: he’d last a while

 He would honestly be pretty good. 

He kind of breaks the rules, he constantly gives you oral and jerking himself off, but it wasn’t specifically stated in the rules (apart from the name… but whatever)

He makes it like halfway through the month until a particularly bad race result. 

He fucks you all night. 

When you both get to the paddock in the morning, George pays him a visit to collect the money like the smug bastard he is. 

He heard you two last night. 

He was 4 doors down.

We all know Franco is awful at keeping his mouth shut, and in an interview he somehow lets it slip that he needed to find George to give him money.

He says ‘the bet’ and explains that they’re doing NNN this year and that he lost. 

It was worth it though, you two hadn’t seen each other in months (you were busy in uni, he was busy at races) and he just had to have you. 

He made it like a quarter of the way into the month. 

He didn't really care. 

The drivers honestly just found it funny that he told the media.
