The United Nations long ago lost credibility as a moral arbiter, but its assault on Israel is hitting a new low. On Wednesday the U.N. will refuse to renew the contract of Alice Wairimu Nderitu, the Kenyan who is the Special Advisor on the Prevention of Genocide.
Ms. Nderitu is an accomplished mediator, whose U.N. bio describes her as a “recognized voice in the field of peacebuilding and violence prevention.” She has served in that role since 2020 and her tenure has been marked by careful study of humanity’s worst crime. She is being dismissed because she has stood firm in her belief that Israel’s war with Hamas isn’t genocide.
In 2022 her office issued a guidance paper on “when to refer to a situation as ‘genocide.’” The paper noted U.N. officials should “adhere to the correct usage” of the term because of the political and legal sensitivities that surround it and “its frequent misuse in referring to large scale, grave crimes committed against particular populations.”

"In approaching six months of genocidal horror in Gaza, the Israeli army has slaughtered more than 32,000 Palestinians, with thousands more bodies decomposing under the Gaza rubble. More than 70,000 are wounded, many maimed for life. Among the dead are at least 90 Palestinian journalists and media workers, and nearly 200 aid workers. Some 13,000 children and 9,000 women have been killed by Israel. The same attrition rate in the UK would have seen at least one million Britons dead, including approximately 400,000 children. Until yesterday, politicians of the two main British political parties, Conservative and Labour, along with the mainstream media, have been relaxed about all this. They supported the slaughter and protected the killers. The British media have demonised or dehumanised Palestinians, while throwing their weight behind Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Too often the media have believed lies and fabrications told to them by the Israeli army, while suppressing or ignoring mounting evidence of Israeli atrocities. Overnight, this appears to have changed."

By SHLOMO COHEN and YAACOV SAMET
Notice also that since the 1:1.1 ratio is inordinately low compared to the norm in urban warfare, then even if, hypothetically, the final true numbers turn out to be doubly worse, they would still be low in historical comparison and therefore incompatible even with a prima facie suspicion of genocide.
Since nobody attributes to the IDF extreme ineptitude in killing, the 1:1.1 ratio of combatant-to-civilian casualties achieved in Gaza should be recognized as a historical achievement of protecting civilian lives. Thus the numbers also testify to a lack of genocidal intent.
War is invariably replete with human tragedies. Nothing written here overlooks this. Our point is only that a historically low overall ratio of combatant-to-civilian casualties refutes the possibility of genocide. Stories of specific tragedies are surely an important aspect of the coverage of war; but focusing exclusively on those at the expense of the overall statistics amounts to informational manipulation.
The conclusions presented here are based on simple reasoning and information available to all. That the ICJ judges in The Hague, who proceed with the genocide trial, cannot produce simple reasoning is deeply disturbing. If they can, yet proceed, this is alarmingly worse. The Jewish people and the Jewish State have been repeatedly victims of blood libels. This looks like yet another one – if you just do the math.

Basically, the numbers only work if it’s a perfect world for Hamas. And nothing is ever perfect in real. The numbers are wrong.

Israel kills dozens in attack on Rafah refugee camp | Al Jazeera Newsfeed
Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vn3jrvf9fsk&rco=1
Israeli forces killed more than 40 Palestinians when they bombed a camp for displaced people in southern Gaza. Fire tore through tents, burning people alive, in a designated ‘safe zone’ in Rafah, just days after the ICJ ordered Israel to stop its assault.

That @whenmagicfilledtheair blogs blatant antisemitism while simultaneously denying it scares the shit out of me.
Yeah, they are by far the worst I've seen.
The thing that I find the most frustrating about people like them, and why I even bothered to comment on their pinned post is that they demand answers to questions, but do so already knowing nothing anyone says will appease them. They are not looking for a debate or even open to changing their mind in anyway. You can see that if you look through their blog and see how they respond to anyone trying to provide them with evidence of their antisemitism.
That's why I didn't try to answer their pinned post, because I'm not going to spend hours going through their their blog taking screenshots and then compiling my own sources for why what they said is wrong or antisemitic when they will just deny anything they don't agree with as wrong or Israeli propaganda.
The thing is, it's easy to criticize Israel without being antisemitic--just look at how other Israelis have been doing it for years. But that's not what this person wants--they want to paint Israel as the most evil country on Earth, with the most evil people, who do uniquely evil things that no other country has ever done before.
I'm not Israeli, I'm not even Jewish, so for the most part I haven't said anything about this war. I come to Tumblr for memes, art and fandom shit. Yet, the rise of Antisemitism is really worrying me, especially when it's so easily brushed off with the excuse that it's just Israeli propaganda.
Like, I just don't understand why it's so hard to admit that, yeah, given how old antisemitism and how it's shaped a lot of cultures worldwide that it's possible some of it has slipped into the 'free Palestine' movement. This doesn't mean it's an inherently bad movement or that Palestinians deserve to die or lose their homes. It just means that maybe sometimes people should take a step back and see if some of their inherent biases have effected how they talk about this war as opposed to others that do not involve the Jewish State of Israel.
#antisemitism#bad blog is really fucking bad#like i'm sorry but when did we start not believing rape victims?#or just excusing mass slaughter of civilians as fine if they were the 'wrong' side?#I mean the fact they even have to ask 'what should have Hamas done instead of killing babies and small children?' is ridiculous#idk maybe blow up the wall around Gaza or attack military targets or soldiers?#in the very least don't go door to door killing children#and like if Hamas is allowed to kill children to save it's citizens why is Israel not allowed to do the same?#Also I do take issue with people calling it a genocide simply because i think it obscures a much bigger and tougher subject#which is that modern warfare has become extremely okay with mass civilian casualties#and even old wars did at times purposefully target civilians in order to win (take Sherman's march during the American Civil War)#civilian casualties have become acceptable collateral damage and their numbers have risen as populations go up#and weapons become more deadly#mass civilian deaths are not unique to Israeli warfare#carpet bombing is just how modern wars are fought#and it's not as if Hamas does not want to do this--they fire hundreds of rockets at Israeli civilian centers as well#they just have cheaper artillery and Israel has the Iron Dome which destroy most before they land#I'm positive that if Hamas had assess to better bombs and airplanes they would do the same shit Israel is#because that's just how wars are fought now#which i think should bother people#but fixing this issue isn't as easy as stopping Israel's 'genocide' because the solution there is just stop bombing#and ignores that civilians everywhere else in the world who are living through wars#are still getting bombed to pieces by the thousands

Hamas released 3 female Israeli hostages
Hamas released 3 female Israeli hostages, 90 Hamas prisoners freed.
Hamas has released three Israeli female hostages as part of the ongoing ceasefire agreement with Israel.
The freed hostages include Romi Gonen, Emily Damari, and Doron Steinbrecher.
In exchange, Israel has released 90 Palestinian prisoners.
This marks the first phase of the prisoner exchange deal, which follows intense negotiations mediated internationally.
The ceasefire, which came into effect at 9:15 AM GMT on Sunday, is aimed at halting the devastating conflict in Gaza that has resulted in thousands of casualties

It's very frustrating that the world gives Israel a license to commit the utmost violence onto Palestinians and then expect Palestinians to be diplomatic in response. Then when Palestinians do try diplomacy, and Israel only barely upholds the charade in order to hold onto control as long as it can, Palestinians are still blamed for the violence Israel places upon them.
Even in the context of the current genocide in Gaza, so many Zionists said that the only acceptable response was Hamas surrendering and returning the hostages... but then what? Does Gaza still remain under siege? Or instead Palestinians get left with the corrupt PA rule that's only there to serve Israel's interests? If you return the hostages, then what? Are Palestinians prisoners freed or will they still languish in Israeli jails subject to inhumane conditions without a fair trial?
If you bring up the Nakba, they'll respond with "but the Arabs rejected partition!" When you bring up the occupation, they'll say "But Palestinians rejected [x] peace plans!" When Palestinians decide to bring justice to themselves by responding to Israel's violence with violence, people argue that Palestinians had it coming for whatever reason. If, in the words of Zionists, the current war is "justified" because of what happened on Oct 7 + the hostages, then in that case, Israel deserves to be sanctioned the world over for the casualty rate it is responsible for in Gaza.
Israel is the one with power here. It could've left the West Bank and ended the siege on Gaza like yesterday if it wanted to, but clearly it wants to maintain control from the river to the sea and then Palestinians get accused of wanting the entirety of the land from the river to the sea even though we have a rightful claim to it? Even though, Palestinians are literally criminalised for existing in their own land?
It's utter bullshit.
