Today, the first thing I noticed stepping off the tramway in my childhood city were the policemen. I didn't think anything of it because they're often around. It was pouring and I was focused on staying dry under the tram stop.

Then I saw the small crowd of maybe 50, 100 people in mostly black, with a few yellow umbrellas here and there, standing in the open with their backs to the square. I quickly googled if it was what I thought it was, and I walked over there in the torrential rain.

Story after story of horror, of trauma, of sexual assault, of dead loved ones were being told on a small microphone, just loud enough to rise above the rain - a young woman's husband who jumped on a grenade for her; the 81 year old Holocaust survivor who only now remembers what she went through as a baby, because she went through it again. There were only a few signs - just pictures with a big KIDNAPPED above it. Most people there were older, but I saw kids too, a little boy my brother's age with a black kippa with Hebrew all around it.

We did a minute of silence at the end. The whole thing was quiet, solemn and unobtrusive. Most people passing by the square probably didn't notice.

Only after I stepped out did I see the policemen again, and understand why they were there. Because even this, the smallest possible acknowledgement of Jewish and Israeli suffering in a big French city carried enough risk to warrant their presence.

But all along I knew why it was pouring when I arrived, and why it slowed just as the gathering ended: the heavens were crying with them.

waiting for my fellow gay and trans goyim to actually acknowledge that our people were also victims in the holocaust just as Jewish people were, and that Hamas are trying to do holocaust two electric boogaloo, and so we as queer people aren't fucking safe either and should stand up for Jewish people in the way that many Jewish people have stood up for us as they are the main target here and need support. in the Jewish texts there are multiple genders aswell so they of all people will be more likely to stand for you than... well Islamist Terrorists who hate us. like... if you keep spreading Nazi rhetoric like this and are queer you are calling for your own murder and the murder of all the rest of us aswell. there are many reasons that I could be targeted by Nazis, I'm gay and trans, I'm brown and disabled... so to see so many of my own community hating Jews and spreading antisemitism scares me a lot, you don't seem to get the damage you're doing not only to Jews and their mental wellbeing, but the damage you're doing to your own community. you are giving the far right a valid reason to think the majority of queer people are insane... because y'all are insane! and you don't seem to get how greatly this could impact our already fragile rights in so many places... please just... fucking think? for five damn seconds about what you're doing I am so tired of it all. you say it's not about antisemitism... but if it's not then why are your speaking points all so... Why I have supported Israel in this conflict

Because as a woman i know I'm a second class citizen in Gaza. Because as a bisexual I know I would be thrown off a roof top in the name of Allah in Gaza. Because i know Hamas hides military bases under hospital. Because I know Hamas hides weapons in schools. Because I know Hamas fighters put on street clothes and hide in crowded areas just to cry foul when civilians needlessly die. Because Hamas raped and killed 1,400 civilians on October 7th! I do not personally hate the civilians of Gaza even though I do not agree with Islam in any way shape or form and I think that it is the worst thing to ever happen to planet earth but to those who want a free Palestine we cannot possibly see that until Hamas is dead! A free Palestine is a Palestine without Hamas!

there is a world of difference between "this person was fired for supporting palestine" and "this person was fired for being a raging antisemite" and you do in fact need to actually look at what that person said to determine which it is. it sets a dangerous precedent to consider any support of palestine inherently antisemitic but it is just as dangerous to excuse antisemitism under the guise of supporting palestine.
