i can see steve starting off with fancy gifts (ones he probably can’t afford with his new wage lmao) but that’s what he knows— his dad probably just got his mom a fancy necklace and called it a day and hey, that worked when he did it for nancy, right? she smiled, wore it for a bit, and then it disappeared, just like how his mother did it. and he might do that on your first year together & it’s not a bad gift!! truly u will adore anything he gets you, it’s a sweet necklace

but he’s grown a bit since nancy, and eventually comes to hate the idea of anyone thinking he’s trying to buy their affection as robin informed him it might come off as when he was discussing it with her (not that robin thinks he would do that but steve was trying to one-up his expensive fancy necklace he got u last year)— so instead he delves into trying to go for the most thoughtful gift he can manage :’)

it’ll be some mixture of things you want and need— a sweater that he thinks you’ll look adorable in, a framed photo of the both of u with the sappiest love note in existence on the back (that was drafted 100 times before he wrote on it) and something to do w your specific interests !! if ur a writer, he gets you lovely lined paper or a cute notebook - film buff? he gets u early unreleased posters thru his job. love cooking? he’s gone and found the fanciest rolling pin he can find. when u open it all he’s just sitting there, hands twitching all nervous like :) do u like it? is it too much? or…or not enough? because he has several backup gifts in the car bcos he wants to get it RIGHT

u make sure to give him a dozen kisses til he’s pink in the face and beaming so he knows he’s done a great job

If somebody in your life offers to knit or crochet or, really, create anything for you, please be an active participant in the creation of the piece they are making. I adore making and gifting things, but nothing bums me out quicker than a person who passively just goes "okay," to my ideas about what I'm making them - it can send the message that they won't like it, or that they don't care, even if they're happy about my offering. The back-and-forth feedback is a great way to make sure that you are being gifted something that was truly worth the time, effort, expertise, and money that will inevitably go into the gift!

I know it's really hard to be an active participant, believe me, I'm an anxious ball of horror, but it will only do good for both parties to interact in this situation. It is a big deal to be offered a hand-crafted gift, but it's also something we want you to love and use, and that can only happen if you tell us what would make you fall in love with what we create.

Nah, he and are are super good friends--we were before we dated, and remained so after, because the breakup was extremely amicable, and he's one of those people who's a terribly good gift-giver. Most years we still exchange gifts sometime between our respective birthdays and christmas, and he sent me that hand (it's a replica) as a gift one year. I made him the archaeopteryx fossil bowl this year.

Just because this is the OG bone-stealing witch website, I will clearly state that the only real human bones I possess are my own. My animal bones are all either scavenged myself or gifted to me by the people that scavenged them. (I have a sort of energy that consistently makes people go "I saw this dead thing and thought of you!")

I don't have a problem with owning human remains that are ethically sourced, but the reality is that unless you can very precisely trace the origin of human remains to the specific person who clearly and unequivocally stated in life that they're cool with someone keeping and displaying their now-unused crunchy bits, it's...probably not ethical. So if someone has some of their own bones that they're done using that they want to send my way: cool, let's talk, ideally before it's necessary to have the conversation by seance. Otherwise, I will continue to be perfectly happy with my replica remains.

I'd like to will my crunchy bits to someone who will make dramatic monologues to my noggin, but hopefully that's not an issue I'll need to deal with for a while yet.

Ruby anon again! I hope you’re doing well, Sophie! I don’t have any notes, but I do want to share some fun facts:

• Ruby bounced around so many other Pokémon species before I settled on Zorua. The list includes: pichu, Espurr, Gligar, torchic, Teddiursa, Piplup, shinx, budew, Bounsweet, Gible, Deino, Fennekin, Flabébé, Rockruff, Hatenna, and Sprigatito.

• Originally, her abusers were her parents and Ruby was the one survivor of the siblings that were abandoned in the dungeon by the time Twig got there. Then I looked at the idea and said “. . . That seems like a little bit too much”. Afterwards, there were other iterations with the abusers being an aunt and uncle, cousins, or some strangers that took her from her family. There’s more but I forgot the others. Eventually I settled on the abusers being older siblings.

• There was another idea that the siblings actually cornered Opal to force her to tell them where Ruby was and trying to attack her when she refused. I didn’t like the idea and also I feel like if this happened Twig (and maybe Ark) would have committed murder on sight.

• For a brief period of time, the siblings had “names” — but they were really just silly, uncreative names to refer to them by because I had no respect for them. I called the brother “Yeet” and the sister “Delete” (I will use these names to reference them, but please do not keep these as their official names I beg of you-)

• There was an idea that Ruby usually hid around Twig’s house because Yeet and Delete were afraid of Twig. I scratched this because I felt it was better that the two didn’t know exactly who Twig was. Additionally, they also had a strong hatred for Ark. I don’t remember the reason for this.

• Before I came up with the name Ruby, I called her “Dove” — like the peace bird.

Oh my word... All of this is amazing but Dove... Precious little baby Dove... Oauouaogh...

I've been thinking a lot about how Rook's reunion with his former mentor, Zara, is going to go, and since I can't predict what the DM is going to have her do or say, I can only dwell on what I know is going to happen. Which happens to include taking off the illusion ring that's been hiding his injuries from her. So have a snippet of the description I have planned for that moment:

He hesitates, twisting a ring on his finger. Looking at it more closely, she can tell it’s very finely crafted, and must have been very expensive. A large emerald is set into the band. Rook sighs, and pulls the ring off his finger in one quick motion.  Immediately she’s struck by the difference in his appearance as the illusion melts away. He looks awful. His warm, healthy skin fades to a dull and sickly grey. There’s huge bags under his deeply sunken eyes, and his cheeks are hollowed, as though they have been carved out by an overeager sculptor. He looks like he’s recently risen from the grave.  While he was thin before, now she can see his ribs under the skin, and his collarbones are exaggeratedly pronounce. Thin white lines left by dozens upon dozens of recently healed cuts are scattered across his body. On top of that, faded bruises cover most of his visible skin, a mottled mosaic of purple and yellow. They’re clearly days, maybe weeks old, and she can only begin to imagine what they must have looked like when fresh. Bandages are barely visible under his shirt, wrapping around his back, hinting at even more injuries.
