Would they love you as a worm?
And how would they react?
(Platonic!)
Gn!reader
Some of these are short and I’m sorry for that, wrote this at 1:am and I didn’t rlly feel like adding or fixing anything ☹️
Warnings: Slight atsv spoilers!!!, really bad British slang(someone please help), idk if the terms I used for hobie are actual British slang or not….nor do I know how to spell them if they are☹️
Tumblr media
Earth-1610!Miles Morales- Definitely(but he Misses human you)
🕷️miles would ABSOLUTELY love you as a worm.
🕷️somehow someway you turn into a worm and miles is so protective.
🕷️I’m talkin’ like dude would keep you so safe, with a little terrarium filled with fresh soil and plants.
🕷️feel like he would also spend nights talkin’ to you and just spilling his problems out.
🕷️one time he got scared that his mom threw you out but she had just moved you…yea he almost had a heart attack
——
“Mom, where’s my little jar I had on my window?”
“Oh uhm….I honestly don’t remember where I put it..”
“…”
“Miles?”
And he’s already gone to look for you around the house.
It took him a hour but he finally found you…in a cabinet.
That night he spent singing sunflower to you
——
Tumblr media
Earth-42!Miles Morales- Kinda(he had to think about it)
⛓️ miles would have to warm up to you.
⛓️like 1610 miles, you somehow turn into a worm.
⛓️at first he thinks it’s a joke…but as time moves on he realizes you’re a worm.
⛓️he definitely would keep you safe though.
⛓️like he would keep you fed and made sure you didn’t dry out.
⛓️but like he doesn’t do the whole talk thing.
⛓️the only time he talks to you is when he’s checking on you(like twice a day)
⛓️he definitely hides you from his uncle.
⛓️he’s not ashamed he just doesn’t want to explain how you became a worm because even he doesn’t know.
⛓️though if Aaron ever found out I think he would just stare at miles and walk away.
——
“Yo miles, cmon man we gotta do a ru-”
“…” “…”
“Miles why is there a worm on your desk?…”
“I know it looks weird!!, but somehow [___] got turned into a worm..”
“…”
“Yea… we not doin’ no run today…you can just stay here with uhm…yo worm”
“Yo! Unc, it ain’t Like that!!”
But Aaron’s already out the door
And miles is left as heat flushes his now embarrassing face
——
Tumblr media
Hobie Brown- Doesn’t care(but yes)
🎸hobie doesnt care, Like literally it’s your life.
🎸but, he is one of them that would carry you in his pocket.
🎸like dude has a full on pocket full of damp soil just for you.(that’s how he keeps you safe)
🎸he doesn’t know how you got turned into a worm, but like I said earlier he honestly doesn’t care.
🎸if you wanna be a worm…he ain’t gonna stop you.
🎸like 1610!miles, he definitely would talk to you.
🎸like full on conversations though.
🎸like he’s asking you questions and everyone’s just staring thinking he’s finally lost his marbles.
——
“So I was tellin’ bloke-”
“Ay hobie, who’re you talking to?”
“Bruva, you’re tellin’ me you don’t see [___] right er’???”
“…no?”
“That’s botched huh luv?!”
Yea they never came back…
——
Tumblr media
Gwen Stacy- Not at first(but she does)
🎵she actually thinks you look stupid at first.
🎵she blames however you got like this on you or miles.
🎵she definitely thought you were ugly.
🎵but then she gets to care for you and ends up loving you.
🎵not the best at protecting you but please don’t be hard on her.
🎵she gets mad when someone tries to mess with you.
🎵like it’s kinda scary.
🎵I’m talkin’ bout full on glare, eyebrows furrowed, right nostril flared and lip curved up slightly.
🎵one day she caught a spider person tapping your glass and she got pissed.
——
“Ay!, why’re tapping the glass?”
“Oh, uhm.!”
“Move. This isn’t a zoo”
“Right! S-sorry!”
“…”
“You ok [___]?”
All in all everyone knew not to mess with Gwen and her worm friend.
——
Tumblr media
Jessica Drew- Yes(shes basically your mom now)
🤰🏾she absolutely loves you.
🤰🏾plus she thought it’d be easy practice for when she pops her baby.
🤰🏾is the type to tell someone she has a kid and then show them you
🤰🏾she’s definitely always checking on you.
🤰🏾protects you like a mom should.(kinda)
🤰🏾she cried when she lost you.
🤰🏾one day she set you down to grab a drink and when she came back you were gone.
——
“I’ll be right back [___], don’t move!”
5 minutes later…
“[___]?….[___]!??”
“E-excuse me, but has anyone seen [___]??”
“Uh, who?”
“Their a worm, and they were right here!”
She ended up finding you with Peter B and mayday
She realized this was harder than she originally thought…
——
Tumblr media
Miguel- No(He Acts Like he hates you, but secretly would do anything for you)
🕸️dude definitely almost stepped on you once or twice.
🕸️Bros the Type of Person to yell at you After he almost stepped on you.
🕸️but like once he warms up to you he’s definitely carrying you everywhere.
🕸️Like Bro wouldn’t trust you😭.
🕸️or for that matter anyone.
🕸️Like one time, he let Peter B watch You And when he came back mayday was about to eat you.
——
“I got it dude”
“Are You sure You can Watch [___]?”
“Yes now go..literally you’re ruining the mood right now”
10 Minutes later…
“I’m back-”
“PETER!?”
“What!, What!?”
“Your child almost ate [___]…”
“…”
“I’m sorry?”
“…Hijo de puta…”
“Yea i deserve that…”
——
Tumblr media
Pav- Yes(He wants to keep you forever..)
🪀Bro thinks you’re the cutest thing hes ever Seen
🪀he definitely calls you his little wormy
🪀he would keep you safe in a while mini House
🪀Like Bro made it And Everything
🪀he doesn’t want you to Turm Back Human
🪀Like…Ever 💀

Hiii i had a request maybe you go with gavi to sevilla to spend time with his family and like go swimming in his pool 🫶🏼
Thanks to me going to the pool yesterday (Even tho I didn't went inside the water😭), here's a small blurb (This was supposed to come out earlier since I spent my whole night awake because I couldn't sleep, but boo, miss @gavisuntiedboot published a chapter of her majestic Just Pretend series so I kinda left everything I was doing at the moment and have been re-reading the chapter over and over again because it's a masterpiece, add into the mix Uni homework and finally catching up on the sleeping hours😭)
Pool Day with the Fam -P.G
Summary: A pool day is always welcomed
°°° °°° °°° °°°
"Y/N, hija, don't you worry please. Go and enjoy" Belén had said once more but you shook your head
"I will do, Belén. In a few, just let me help you dry these dishes, you already cooked and on top, washed them" You smiled "It won't kill me helping you helping you around a bit"
"You're the best, cariño. Even my own kids forgot I'm stuck here" She pulled a face as you laughed together.
Talking about the Rey of Roma and he's here
"¿Preciosa?" You heard Pablo's voice getting close as you and Belén stood there not doing nothing "¿Bonita, estás aquí?" He came on your view as Belén was waiting for him to smack him with the drying towel for leaving her to do everything "¡Auch, mamá!"
"Aurora will get one too, eventually. How is it possible my baby Y/N, is doing everything you are supposed to?"
"You told us to enjoy today!"
"After helping me clean up!"
"Sorry, mom" He hugged her "Is there anything I can help you with?"
"Y/N already did it" You giggled seeing your boyfriend look at you narrowing his eyes
"Pero, ¿Y tú de que te ríes?" He asked getting closer to you as you were going backwards "Wanna have a real good laugh?"
"No" You shook your head already knowing his intentions
"Too bad, I do want to" He said before launching himself at you as you tried and ran away from him, Belén's laughter echoing the house.
As much as you tried it, he was a goddamn football player and he ran for a living meanwhile you... You studied to get your degree.
"Don't you dare do anything bad to my baby, Pablo Martín!" She had yelled when you yelled as he grabbed you in his arms and carried you towards the pool
"Nonono!" You yelled "No, amorcito! Please, don't throw me just now into the water, I swear I won't get mad at you anymore for you to leave the toothpaste open and squish it in the middle instead of doing it from below!"
"Too late, princesa"
"No! No! NO!" You grabbed onto him but it was failure.
The splashing sound was heard all over the Páez Gavira's backyard. Pablo, Aurora, Javi and Gavi were laughing. Until you didn't went up to scream at him.
"Amor, come on now" He said but several seconds passed and nothing "¿Amor?"
"Why isn't she coming up?" Aurora asked starting to worry
"Get her out, now" Pablo, Gavi's dad, said trying to remain calm as Gavi got closer to the pool when you jumped out of it, scaring him.
Now, you were the one laughing. Aurora, Javi and Pablo were also relieved and with light smiles on
"Puta madre, Y/N" Gavi said deeply breathing "I got so scared" You shook your head
"That's karma" You said "And this" You got closer to him grabbing his face to kiss his plump lips for a few seconds, your hands going down to his hands intertwining them "is revenge" You pulled him by his hands making him get head into the pool
You all were laughing by the time he came out to grab some air, Belén had come out with some drinks for all of you and was looking at the scene surprised and confused.
"Señorita" He said smiling
"Lo que es igual no es trampa" You said softly as he threw some water at you
"Chica, you scared us!" Aurora said sitting on the pool edge
"Your brother is mean to me, I had to do the same and get back" You smiled feeling Gavi lift your legs up and make them go around his waist, he tickled you as you squealed a little "Stop!"
"You stop saying that, everyone will believe it and it isn't true" You roll your eyes, wrapping your arms around his shoulders, pushing yourself against him and kissing his neck.
"No, hermanito. Everyone can see how whipped you are for-AH!!" She yelled also being thrown at the pool by her boyfriend, Javi. We all laughed as she discretly showed her middle finger to her boyfriend
"¿Qué son esas cosas, nena? Those gestures aren't nice at a-AH!" Now, it was Belén who had pushed Javi as you all laughed histerically
"Don't mess up with my daughters, kid" She said smiling as Aurora and you cheered as she defended you both
"Go, ma!" You yell making everyone laugh.
Pablo was sneekily getting behind Belén but it seemed as if she noticed it because she turned around and the poor man quickly made it seem as if nothing
"Don't you even dare" Belén said as Pablo kissed her lovingly and threw himself into the water
You laughed as Belén smiled proudly "At least, we know who has the power in the relationship" Aurora said
"You always gotta have it" Belén
"And you always gotta let her win" Pablo said to the two youngmen with that life lesson tone, you laughed looking over to your Pablito who was laughing so carefree
"I already do that" He whispered against your lips, smiling
You started chatting and fooling around for the evening and eventually when the night hit got out of the cold water, all of you, now, in your pijamas, on the couch having a good time together.
"We should come to Sevilla more often, Pabs" You whispered distancing yourselves for a bit from the conversation his parents, Aurora and her boyfriend had going on
"You like it here?"
"I love it here" Pablo smiled widely kissing you once more
"Anytime you want us to, amor"

june 20th.
&&. on june 20th, the world ended. the sky turned orange and the ground beneath your feet cracked.
Tumblr media
pairing: lee donghyuck x m!reader
genre: fluff?? angst??
warnings: mentions of death
word count: 1k
notes: this is one of the strangest things i think ive written in a long time 😭 i have no idea how this idea came to be in the first place i kinda just wrote out what came to my mind?? i also spent so long trying to figure out which nct member to write this for and i literally just picked hc because he's my sisters favorite member (#THANKSTI) so yeah idk why this exists but it does 🤷‍♂️
Tumblr media
on june 20th, your alarm rang two minutes early.
on june 20th, you gave your mother a kiss on the cheek before leaving for school.
on june 20th, you missed the bus and were forced to walk the whole way to school.
on june 20th, you had walked into class late for the first time since september.
on june 20th, the sky was full of dark clouds, you assumed it was going to rain later that day.
on june 20th, you skipped one of your classes for the first time ever, biology, one you always hated.
on june 20th, you noticed seven different cracks in the sidewalk.
on june 20th, the air seemed different..
on june 20th, all that you could think about was your upcoming birthday, excitement surging through your veins.
you did what you always did. kicked small rocks, hopped over fences, hummed the lyrics to your favorite song, danced to the lyrics of your favorite song in public with no shame, skipped over the cracks on the sidewalk, did cartwheels, you were having fun.
for some reason, the day of june 20th made you feel free.
nobody could stop you, not your friends, not asshole teachers, not screaming neighbors, nobody could stop you.
well, maybe the world ending could stop you.
with a smile on your face and an energetic pep in your step, you make your way through the now noisy neighborhood.
people are screaming, the sky is an unnatural color, the air feels as if it's slowly poisoning your lungs, the cracks beneath your feet have now doubled in number.
but for some reason, you feel easy?
the prospect of the world ending is a funny one, one you never thought you'd be living ever. in movies, it's branded as such a horrible thing, but you don't think you've ever felt happier.
the music blaring through your headphones distracts you, the people panicking around you seem more like blurs then actual people. they all have lives, some of them have children, some of them have grandchildren, some of them have family out of the country, some of them are going to be celebrating their last birthdays today, who knows what was going on in their lives earlier today that will now mean nothing in a good two hours.
your complex emotions surprise you, but the smile on your face doesn't falter, and you like that it doesn't.
because if you could spend the last moments of your life being happy, why would you be mad about that?
"everything alright? your not hurt are you?" you wrap your arms around your mother, resting your head on hers.
"i'm alright" you whisper, arms clinging around her.
your hair is disheveled, probably due to the absolute maddening things you'd been doing on the sidewalk.
"oh honey! donghyuck called, he was asking for you".
the name gets an eyebrow raise out of you.
donghyuck?
donghyuck as in lee donghyuck? he called? why would he call? why would he be asking for you? why would he—
oh, oh my goodness.
"what did he ask for?" you immediately separate from the hug, and your mother gives you a puzzled look. "did he ask for something from me specifically?"
"he just asked for you because he said he wanted to tell you something but you weren't here—"
holy shit.
"oh i have to go.."
your mother blinks once again, but then she realizes what your talking about, and she sighs. "honey, you still haven't told him?"
you don't even try to battle the allegations, just press a kiss to her cheek and make your way towards the door. "today's the day mom! the world is ending!"
your optimism shocks you, and you race out of the door, nothing else on your mind but him.
on june 20th, your life seemed to take a strange turn.
on june 20th, your mundane routine suddenly became extraordinary.
on june 20th, you realized it was your last chance to tell donghyuck how you feel.
the world is ending, the sky has turned orange, the sidewalk has began cracking beneath your feet, people are screaming, crying, clutching onto their family members, it's your last day, it's everyones last day, tomorrow, you'll all be nothing but empty corpses.
all of you have dreams, all of you had desires, things you'll never be able to pursue now because your demise is coming much sooner than you expected.
there's only one thing at your mind at the moment, and that's the most annoying person ever.
today is a day like no other, a day which will all be in memory by the time the week passes, your feet push you through the pain you feel, because you've never been able to get such words out.
where is he.. where is he.. where is he..
when you spot lee donghyuck, you shout, and he doesn't even have to look at you to know what it is.
you tackle him to ground, his back colliding with the soft grass in his front yard as you fall right on top of him. a smile comes to your face as you look down at him, with his pretty eyes and pretty smile.
"you're so stupid!" you yell, he just chuckles, letting you remain on top of him, because the world is ending, and this is it. "you called!?"
"you're literally stupider!" he rebuts. "you came!"
you scoff, oh this could've all been yours before if you weren't such a coward, but there is always a time for everything, even if this is the last time.
"i am so in love with you" you whisper, leaning down to press a kiss onto his lips. "you're such an idiot, a pretty idiot".
donghyuck just smiles, wrapping his arms around your neck. "you love me".
"of course i do".
"the world is ending, baby".
but for some reason you aren't crying.
you aren't sad, you aren't crying or anything, you're just living in the moment.
"i know, but i love you".
on june 20th, the world ended.
on june 20th, the sky turned orange and the ground beneath your feet cracked.
on june 20th, you told lee donghyuck you loved him.
on june 20th, you spent your final moments with the boy you loved the most.

well, what a week this has been !!
our downstairs ac unit and our water heater decided to tear up at the exact same time !!
so, i spent a good chunk of yesterday just cleaning out the space to get the water heater so my mom wouldn't have to do any of it later
that was one good thing about it being 59 degrees down there! the upstairs one still works just fine but like....hot air rises so i even double checked, but yeah, 70 degrees with the fan on and it didn't do a damn thing for the downstairs so
anyway
i got it all cleared out and a plumber is supposed to be on his way now. he had some emergency cases come up but said he still wanted to come check it out.
my dad had told my mom that the water heater was going to go soon, so we kinda figured. i have taken two...very cold showers this week but it's all good. made the pink stay in my hair longer so there's that
had therapy after that but it was a good session so that was nice. she said i was doing better than i was a year ago and i guess i can see that. even a little bit of progress is still progress and even if i'm the only one that sees it
mostly what i've been dealing with is just...exhaustion. with all this wacky thermostat shit there have been so many nights the aux heat has kicked on downstairs and made it insufferable upstairs so i wake up at like 4 am and just can't get back to sleep
i've been working 50 hour weeks pretty much nonstop for months now but i'm trying to at least not get so stressed during the work day, especially when doing chores eats up all my time like it did yesterday
i ended up having to do all the work i was supposed to do yesterday today which ended up taking all day but i just took my time for the most part and tried not to get too overwhelmed for no good reason
good news, though!! i got it all done. i've been trying to help out my mom more since this whole neck/arm situation started a few weeks ago. i hate that she's been in pain for so long and we still don't really have any concrete answers.
her pcp just wanted to talk about other shit besides this injury but she did at least order an mri which i'm going with her to get done tomorrow so hopefully that'll give us some answers or at least figure out what to do next.
she's been able to get some relief but not entirely and it's also been causing her to lose sleep so we're a pretty sad bunch by the end of every week the pair of us but we're pulling through !!
in the mean time, someone did come out earlier about the ac and i think it ended up being something about the compressor? they'll have to order a part so it'll be sometime next week but i think the weather is supposed to get warmer then so if it takes a minute i think we'll be okay because i can then at least run the cool air upstairs and it should be fine downstairs
mom's keeping warm by the fireplace and has a heated blanket as well and she said at night she can run a little heater in her room and it works just fine so we'll be okay with that and i can take more cold showers if need be especially if it does heat up that's no problem
wild how the other day it started out 70 damn degrees and humid as shit and then it rained and dropped down to 40 degrees immediately
can't wait to see what kinda interesting spring weather we're about to have. also can't believe it's already march holy shit
the way i'm perceiving time these days is just completely and utterly fucked so that seems especially unreal to me
alright, i think i've rambled enough for now and i've typed a lot today so i'm going to give my fingers a rest (lol) and just scroll for a while, turn this old brain off as best as i can even though it never goes off completely
hope it's a good weekend for you if you're reading this, even if you have to work or have some other bullshit you don't want to do. try to get some rest somewhere in there and so will i <3
ps: plumber just got here !!

SERIES MASTERPOST masterlist
Tumblr media
You wake up feeling like you’ve been hit by a truck or at least consumed a whole bottle of tequila. Your head is pounding and it’s probably with all the crying and stress, so you are quick to take some pills to ease the pain. Sitting on the edge of your bed you stare ahead of you blankly, trying to gain power to start the day.
Though today is Sunday, so you are not working, you’re still worried to face Harry after whatever it was that happened last night. What were you thinking, kissing your boss out of the blue? And what was he thinking kissing you for the second time? It kind of feels like a dream, but you know it really did happen.
You try to stay in your room as long as possible, avoiding to face Harry, but soon enough you can’t postpone it any longer, because you are starving. Peeking out of your room you hear voices coming from downstairs and as you reach the stairs you recognize not just Harry’s and Izzy’s voice, but Niall’s as well.
Arriving downstairs you see Niall and Izzy sitting on the stools at the kitchen island while Harry is cleaning the dishes after their breakfast probably. He is wearing a pair of light-washed jeans and a black hoodie, the sleeves bunched around his elbows. He looks so casual and yet just looking at him makes your heart skip a beat. You are in some big trouble.
Niall spots you first and he perks up waving in your way happily.
“Good morning, Y/N!” he beams, his accent sounds so comforting in such a stressful moment, for some reason.
“Hi, good morning,” you breathe out. Harry turns around, his eyes fall on you and a shiver runs down your spine. He just looked at you and you already want to run away and hide in your room a little longer.
“Morning,” he greets you with a nod before turning back to the sink to finish the dishes.
“Daddy and Uncle Niall are taking me to the park! We are picking Yara up too!” Izzy shares the news with you excitedly.
“Oh, that sounds great!” you smile at her, giving her cheek a gentle pinch before moving to the fridge.
“Do you want to come?” she invites you and your eyes immediately flicker over to Harry who looks at you the exact same time, making your stomach drop right away.
“Um, I have some work to do, maybe some other time,” you smile at Izzy, grabbing yourself a yoghurt and a banana before shutting the fridge closed.
“So how was yesterday?” Niall asks and you freeze. Does he know what happened? Did Harry tell him about last night?
Niall sees your frightened look to which he shoots you a confused one.
“The wedding, Harry told me earlier you had a wedding yesterday.”
“Oh, it went… fine,” you nod shortly, peeking at Harry who is now staring down at his feet awkwardly. This was starting to get painfully ridiculous, the two of you dancing around each other, pretending like you weren’t down each other’s throats just a few hours prior.
“Alright, let’s leave, we need to pick Yara up in twenty,” Harry claps his hands. Izzy jumps off the stool and takes Niall’s hand as they all head out of the house. “We’ll probably have lunch somewhere and then go grocery shopping, so we’ll be away for a while,” he informs you without looking your way before leaving without even waiting for any reaction from you.
Yeah, this was straight up the most awkward conversation you’ve had in a long time.
Tumblr media
“Here, Izzy. Play some games on my phone!” Niall passes his phone to her with a sweet smile, but Harry smacks his bicep.
“What are you doing? She has enough screen time already!”
“Yeah, but I needed her to be busy so I can ask you what the fuck was that in the house.”
Harry curls his lips into his mouth, his eyes glued to the road ahead of him as he tries to come up with a good answer, but he knows he could never fool his best friend.
“Don’t stop, even if she is busy with the phone,” Harry scolds him, glancing at Izzy through the mirror, but she doesn’t seem to be listening to them. Niall rolls his eyes, but lets his words uncommented. “Besides, I don’t know what you’re talking about.” “Oh, you exactly know it. You and Y/N were like scared little bunnies around each other. She looked like she was about to faint any moment when you looked at her.”
“Maybe she was just tired,” he shrugs, but Niall laughs at his weak attempt to fool him.
“Now tell me the real reason, I know something happened.”
Harry chews on his bottom lip, debating whether he should come clean or not, but he knows Niall won’t leave him until he finally tells him so he is not left with many choices.
“We kissed.”
“What?!” Niall snaps, a little louder than Harry expected, his voice makes him flinch. “Sorry, that was a little too dramatic, but what the fuck? Why were you keeping this from me?!”
“Because I knew this is how you’d react,” Harry mumbles under his breath. “And… I don’t think it will ever happen again.”
“What do you mean?”
“The whole thing was a mess,” Harry sighs. “She came home late, pretty upset because she met with her ex at the wedding.”
“The one that cheated on her?”
“Mhm. The dude was an asshole and… she was crying in the kitchen when I came down. We sat on the couch, talked, I tried to calm her down and all that and then… she kissed me.”
“Wait, she kissed you? Wow, she’s got balls!” Niall laughs.
“Yeah, but it was, like, really short and she pulled back, shocked at herself for doing it. I think it was just all the emotions that got her a little confused. But then she tried to apologize and… and I kissed her.”
“What?! Oh my God!” Niall’s mind is blown and he doesn’t even tries to hide his excitement hearing the news about last night. “Was there tongue?”
“Jesus, Niall!” Harry scowls. “I’m not sharing the details with you.”
“Okay, but was it like a solid, short kiss or you guys went right at it?”
Harry doesn’t answer, but it tells enough about the situation and Niall can’t help but whistle as he claps his hands.
“Stop acting like a horny teenager, Niall,” Harry growls rolling his eyes at his friend.
“So you guys snogged, what’s the matter with that?”
“It got awkward. We just pulled back and I think we both were pretty shocked about it and… she just stood up and said that she is going to bed. End of story. And then you were there in the morning, so… yeah.”
“Tell me why the hell we are heading to a playdate then when you should be talking to her?” Niall asks, arching an eyebrow at Harry.
“There’s not much to talk about. It just happened in the heat of the moment, that’s all,” Harry shrugs, but deep down he knows it’s a blatant lie. At least on his side.
Unlike you, who fell asleep right away, Harry spent about an hour lying in his bed wide awake, not able to think about anything else but your lips on his. He replayed the whole thing in his head about a million times, he was starting to feel ashamed of it, but he just couldn’t stop.
Your abrupt leaving left him puzzled and he thought long and hard about why you felt the need to run away. The only thing that made sense to him is that you regretted it the moment it happened, that it really did just happen in the heat of the moment so Harry thought it’s best to act like it didn’t even happen.
“Please don’t be an ass and just… talk to her. We both know we can never know for sure what a woman thinks about. You can’t just assume and think that your assumption is one hundred percent right.”
“I find it funny that you’re such an expert in this stuff, but you haven’t had a stable relationship since like, we finished college,” Harry scoffs as he takes the corner and starts driving down the street to Yara’s moms’ house.
“Me not having a relationship doesn’t mean that I’m not good at them. It’s a choice,” Niall smirks.
“Yeah, whatever.”
“But back to the topic, you wanted to kiss her, right?”
“I mean, yeah? It kinda threw me off as well, but it was… nice.”
“Please don’t refer to a kiss as nice again,” Niall gags, but Harry just chuckles at him. “A kiss is hot, passionate, pant tighteni—“
“Okay, that’s enough!” Harry cuts him, earning a cackle from him.
“Just talk to her, don’t be a pussy.”
“I really do need better friends,” Harry mumbles under his breath as he pulls up to the driveway.

You really didn’t feel like staying home alone in that big ass house so you invited yourself over for an early dinner to your mom’s. You haven’t been over since the little fiasco with Trevor so you thought it might be a good idea to spend some time with them. Trevor said they’ve been trying to keep the fighting down to the minimum and not let it turn into a screaming match, so your speech worked after all.
It’s past three o’clock when you leave, no sign of Harry or Izzy and you feel like they won’t be back for a while either, so you lock everything up and head out.
You have a genuinely good time. It’s obvious that your mom feels guilty about her past behavior and is trying to lure you into forgiving her, though you already did that. But you’re happy your little speech worked. At least Trevor can have his peace now.
After dinner your mom disappears in her room and then returns with a nicely wrapped box and you sigh, rolling your eyes.
“Mom, I told you I don’t need gifts.” You give her a look. Your birthday is coming up next week, but you were never the kind to celebrate. You never felt comfortable with all the attention and fuss birthdays come with, so you’ve always liked to keep it down. These past years you didn’t even ask for anything, though your parents never listened and this year doesn’t seem like an exception either.
“Oh hush. You can’t expect me not to celebrate my baby!” she shakes her head, sitting back to the dining table. “And besides, I didn’t pay a dollar for it,” she then adds and now you’re curious what she got you.
Removing the lid of the box you peek inside and your lips immediately part as you see the stack of polaroids inside.
“I know how much you like old photos and when we sold Grandma’s house back in August, I found these in my old room. I got a polaroid camera for graduation, just in time to take tons of pictures of you,” she explains with a soft chuckle as you start going through the pictures from when you were born and the next few years. Whenever you are done looking at a photo you hand it to Trevor so he can take a look at them too.
“Are you sure you don’t want to keep these, mom?” you ask glancing up at her over the stack.
“I took out a few for myself,” she admits with a sneaky smile. “You can have the rest, I know how much you love these stuff.”
“Thank you, mom,” you smile at her, hugging her from the side, feeling touched by this gift.
It’s nearing eight when you arrive back home, the lights are still up and if you had to guess you’d say that Harry is trying to tire Izzy out enough to put to bed, as usual. Walking in, your guess is proven right, the TV is on in the living room while Harry is sitting on the couch, Izzy all over him in her pink pajamas, playing around with his hair like she always does.
“Hi Y/N!” she calls out happily when she spots you.
“Hi Sunshine, did you have a good time today?” you ask with a soft smile.
“I did! And guess what!”
“What?”
“Yara invited me over for a sleepover!” she beams, clearly ecstatic about the invitation.
“That’s amazing!”
“What’s that?” she curiously asks pointing at the gift box in your hands. Harry turns to see you, his eyes falling on the box as well.
“Oh, it’s a gift I got from my mom,” you explain, stepping closer.
“Is it your birthday?” she questions, knitting her eyebrows together.
“No, not yet. But it will be next week,” you admit with a soft chuckle.
“Really? Are you having a birthday party?” she gasps, getting way too excited already. Harry eyes you without a word, holding Izzy by her hips so she is not losing her balance standing on the cushion of the couch.
“I’m not, sorry. I don’t like having birthday parties,” you pout at her apologetically.
“Oh, okay. Can I see what you got from your mom?”
“Izzy, don’t be nosy,” Harry warns her, but you just smile at the curious girl.
“Sure,” you nod, joining them on the couch. You sit on the opposite end than where Harry is, Izzy in the middle as she watches the box in awe. You set it down to the cushion and take the lid off, revealing the stack of photos.
“What are these?”
“They are called polaroids. They are old pictures, taken with a special camera that kind of prints the picture out right away,” you explain to her as she takes the first photo from the top, a picture of your mom holding you as a newborn. She was so young, practically a child herself, yet her pride was undeniable, it shone all over her face.  You spot Harry looking at the picture as well over Izzy’s shoulder, still keeping his silence.
“Who are these people?”
“That’s my mom and that’s me as a baby. And… this is my dad,” you hold up another photo that features your dad.
“They really were young when they had you,” Harry speaks up for the first time, surprised by the photos.
“Yeah, they were.”
“What are you going to do with them?” Izzy questions, dropping the photo back into the box as she leans back to lie on Harry’s chest.
“Not sure yet. I might make an album from them,” you shrug. “I really like polaroids, I love that they are one of a kind.”
Izzy nods, though you’re not sure she understood what you meant by that. Fidgeting with her fingers she pushes down a yawn and Harry takes that as a good sign.
“Alright, time for bed, Love. Say good night to Y/N.” He picks her up as he stands from the couch. Izzy waves at you smiling with tired eyes.
“Night-night, Y/N,” she singsongs as Harry carries her towards the stairs.
Putting the pictures back into the box you head into your bedroom too, feeling like the time when you and Harry talk about what happened yesterday will never come. It’s pretty clear that he doesn’t want to acknowledge it, so you’ll just let it slip. It happened just in the heat of the moment, didn’t mean a thing, you better forget about it.
After a speedy shower you are getting ready to just go to bed, read some and have a relaxing evening, something you didn’t have the luck to have the day before. But right as you’re about to make yourself comfortable in bed, there’s a knock on your door.
“Hey,” you breathe out as you open it and find Harry standing in the hallway.
“I hope you weren’t sleeping already.”
“No. Come on in,” you invite him inside and he walks in. As he awkwardly stops in the middle of the room you realize he hasn’t even been in here since you’ve moved in. He takes a look around, examining what you’ve done with the room and you feel thankful you decided to put your laundry away just yesterday, so no dirty underwear is littering the floor anywhere.
“How can I help you?” you ask with a soft smile.
“I, erm… I just wanted to clear some things,” he starts, clearly feeling nervous about the conversation and that makes the two of you for sure. Nodding you let him know that you’re waiting for him to carry on. “What happened yesterday…” he starts and your breath gets caught in your throat. “You were very emotional, a lot happened and it was a very confusing moment probably for the both of us. I really like working with you, I’m very happy with the way you’ve been taking care of Izzy and I would hate to ruin it with anything.”
You can feel your stomach dropping even though you were bracing yourself for this version of the situation. It was very likely that Harry would want to keep things professional, like before, but it still makes you feel like shit.
“I’m sorry for stepping over some boundaries, but I really hope that… we can put it behind us and that we can move on.”
He is using his business tone. It’s the same tone he used with Sarah and his assistants and now he is using it to talk about the kiss that happened between the two of you.
“Sure,” you answer quietly nodding. “Moving on sounds… great,” you nod, forcing a smile to your face, but it couldn’t be more fake.
Harry nods as he runs his tongue over his lips, looking around a little awkwardly now that it’s been discussed.
“Alright, then… good night, Y/N,” he nods in your way before heading towards the door.
“Good night, Harry,” you mumble after him as he walks out and closes the door behind him.
As soon as you are on your own, you let out a shaky breath, falling to your bed, lips trembling as you try to even make out what you’re feeling. Because part of you is glad he didn’t make a fuss about it and you didn’t lose your job, that’s great news. But another part, which is vehemently bigger than the first one is upset and sad and… disappointed?
You were hoping it meant something for him, you wanted him to want it, to feel the same craving for you as you feel towards him, because you haven’t really stopped thinking about what his lips felt like against yours, what it was like when his fingers dug into your thigh, how it sent a shiver down your spine when his tongue met yours.
But this conversation just made it awfully clear that he wants nothing to do with you. And it hurts probably more than it should.
 Harry doesn’t get too far from your door when he feels the all too familiar pain in his chest he has been forced to live with these past over three years. It’s like something is gripping his heart and lungs in his chest so tight, even breathing is a hard task.
Rushing into his bedroom he closes the door behind him and slides down to the floor as the tears flood from his eyes. The past twenty-four hours have been rough on him, the guilt has been growing immensely since he let himself slip and give in for his desires and eventually kiss you.
It’s not that he didn’t want it. Because he’d be lying if he said it meant nothing to him and that he hasn’t been craving it these past weeks.
But his guilt, this evil little voice in the back of his head wouldn’t let him enjoy it even the slightest.
How dare you kiss another woman after your wife? Are you insane? You don’t deserve to feel this way with anyone else. Not when you were the reason your wife ended up dead!
Heartbreaking sobs escape from his chest as he pushes himself up from the floor and heads into the bathroom. He strips out of his clothes leaving them all in a pile on the marble tiled floor before he steps into the shower and lets the hot water pour down on him, almost burning his skin, but he doesn’t change the temperature, as if he was trying to punish himself. His salty tears mix with the water as he stands still, chest heaving as his vivid memories from that night come crashing down on him all at once.

“Are you giving me the silent treatment now? Really?” Harry sighed at his wife when she failed to answer his question about the whereabouts of his sweatpants. Maggie sat on the bed with the recent maternity book she’d been reading these past days, not even paying her husband a look at his question.
“Mags, for fuck’s sake, I’m not in the mood to play this game right now,” Harry sighed in defeat. Maggie looked up at him, closed the book slowly and put it aside to the bedside table.
“So the question of expanding our family is just a game to you?” she asked calmly, but her anger and disappointment in her husband was soaking through her tone.
“You know that’s not what I’m talking about.”
“No, you are not talking about anything, because you refuse to have a fucking conversation with me!” she retorted, letting all her bottled up anger out that’d been boiling inside her.
“I already told you that I can’t think about having another baby right now. Izzy is only six, I’m in the middle of a huge project, I don’t have the capacity to think about having another baby, Maggie. I thought I made it clear, why are you still onto me then?”
“Because it’s not something we can put aside for too long! I don’t want to have another baby when I’m in my mid-thirties, but if we go with your plan, we won’t even have another one!” Maggie jumped to her feet, pacing the floor back and forth next to their bed as Harry stood with his hands on his hips, getting irritated that they were fighting over the same thing again.
“I never said we can’t have another baby, but why can’t we wait a little? When Izzy is older and more independent? Do you have any idea how hard it is to take care of a baby and a toddler? It’s a fucking nightmare!” Harry growled rolling his eyes.
“So our family is just a pain in the ass for you?” Maggie questioned, folding her arms on her chest and she was really getting on Harry’s nerves, twisting his words completely.
“That’s not what I said!” he snapped. “All I’m asking for is you to be a little patient and give me some time!”
“I don’t have time, Harry! I want it as soon as possible!”
“Why are you so fucking difficult?” Harry groaned, running his hands through his hair. “Why can’t you wait just… one year at least? Is that too much to ask?”
“And is it too much to ask to focus on your family? We are supposed to come first!” she turned it back around and Harry was not having the dirty games she was playing, putting all the blame on him when she could have been a little more understanding as well. He was feeling like his opinion was put aside and didn’t matter at all.
“You do come first, you don’t have the right to question that.” Harry pointed at Maggie, his blood practically boiling at this point.
“Then why do I feel like work is always more important to you?”
“What are you talking about? You know I’m home as much as I can, but we still need the fucking money, Maggie! Or how do you plan on paying the bills of this fucking mansion?!”
“I don’t need a mansion! I just need my family and that’s all!” she argued, but Harry rolled his eyes at her.
“Well you seem to enjoy this mansion a lot when you sit by the pool and watch movies in the fucking movie theater in your own home!” he snapped back feistily. “Stop acting like I don’t do shit for our family when I work my ass off to provide the best possible life. And all I’m asking for in return is some fucking time before we bring another baby into the picture!”
“You are so fucking unbelievable,” Maggie shook her head as she marched past him, walking away from the fight that just grinded his gears even more.
Just as Harry was about to go after her, he heard the faint crying through the baby monitor. Groaning he headed into Izzy’s room and as he took her out of her crib, he heard the front door open and shut.
“Aw, baby, I’m sorry, did we wake you up?” he cooed, hugging the crying little girl to his chest who clung onto him immediately. Even at such a young age, Izzy was already a daddy’s little girl.
Soon her cries died down to just little hiccups as Harry soothed her, patting her bum and back gently as he moved around the room. Holding Izzy in one arm he grabbed his phone with his free hand and typed a message to his wife.
Harry: Where did you go?!
Maggie: I’m going over to my sister’s. Don’t wait up, might get home late.
Harry couldn’t help but roll his eyes. She called him out for running away from the conversation, but when they were finally talking about it she just decided to disappear when it didn’t head in the direction she wanted, seeking comfort at her sister, as always.
He managed to lull Izzy back to sleep, putting her back to her crib before going back to the bedroom. As time passed by and he calmed down more and more he wished Maggie was home so they could talk about it without jumping at each other’s throat. There had to be a compromising way to solve the situation that would be fine for the both of them.
Harry: Please come home and let’s talk about it.
Maggie: So you can bite my head off again?!
Harry: Mags, please. You have to understand my point of view too!
Maggie: I understand it, but I don’t agree with it. And you don’t seem to understand mine…
Harry: I do, but there are more things to consider. Please come home, I don’t want to have this conversation over the phone!
Maggie: Okay, I’m heading home now.
Harry put his phone down to the nightstand with a long sigh, already tired from everything that happened that day and he knew this conversation would be a hard one too, but they needed to be on the same page when it came to their family.
It was late getting late and Harry grew a little more restless with each passing moment. Paisley, Maggie’s sister lived about thirty minutes away from them and it’d been forty minutes since she sent her last text. At first he figured she maybe stayed and talked for a little longer with Paisley, or stopped for some fast food which he knew she liked so much whenever she was upset, but when an entire hour passed by he was getting worried.
He kept sending her texts that didn’t even get delivered and when he tried to call it went straight to her voicemail. Harry was losing his shit so he decided to call Paisley to see if she knew anything about her.
“She hasn’t arrived home yet?” she asked, clearly surprised.
“No, and she is not answering my calls and texts. When did she leave from yours?”
“A long time ago. Almost right away when you texted her to go home.”
“Fuck,” Harry breathed out, anxiously pacing the floor as he held the phone to his ear. “Okay, can you please call your parents in case she went there for whatever reason? I’ll try her friends.”
“Yeah, sure. Let me know if you got a hold of her,” Paisley told him before they ended the call.
Harry was scrolling through his contacts, trying to decide who Maggie would go to first in this situation and just as he was about to call the first person, his phone started ringing with an unknown number.
“Hello?” he answered the call unsurely, his heart beating fast in his chest as he stood in the middle of the room.
“Mr. Harry Styles?” a male voice asked on the other end.
“Yes, it’s me. Who am I speaking to?”
“I’m Officer Field speaking. You were listed as the emergency contact for your wife, Margaret Linn Styles.”
Blood rushed out of Harry’s face faster than he could even process what was happening. He stood completely frozen, his hands were getting clammy as he started sweating as if he just ran the marathon.
“What happened?” he asked weakly, barely even finding his own voice.
“Mr. Styles, I have bad news…”

Harry makes his way down to the entertainment room, walking like a zombie, only thinking about the bottle of vodka that sits in the minibar down there. Following his skin burning shower he tried to go to bed, but his head was starting to spin from everything that’s been swirling in his mind and he knew he wouldn’t be able to stop it if he didn’t numb himself somehow. Unfortunately, his only way of doing it has been drinking, nothing seemed to help him the way alcohol did and though he knew he should never solve any of his problems with drinking, he still couldn’t help himself sometimes. When the pain was growing immensely, taking over his whole body, he chose the easiest way to get rid of the guilt or at least stop himself from… feeling.
Grabbing the bottle from the mini fridge he snatches himself a glass as well, not drinking straight from the bottle at least, and plopping himself down to the couch he pours a generous glass, drinking it without any chaser.
He winces as the alcohol burns down his throat, but at least it’s a different kind of pain, that takes the focus away from the one he is feeling in his chest.
One glass chases the other and since he is not particularly used to the heavy drinking, he is more like the ‘let’s nurse this pint for an hour’ type of guy, the raw vodka kicks in pretty quickly.
 But he is not the only one who can’t fall asleep tonight.
You tried everything in your power to end your misery and finally fall asleep, but your mind and body was plotting against you and made you toss and turn until you couldn’t take it any longer. Making a good cup of tea seemed like a good idea, so you headed down the kitchen.
As you round the corner after the stairs and you’re about to walk into the kitchen, you notice how the lights are on down in the entertainment room. You stop in your tracks and try to think back if anyone was there before you went upstairs, but you don’t think it was the case.
You figure since there are only two adults living in the house, it must be Harry down there and right now, facing him doesn’t sound like a good idea, so you decide to leave him be, but that’s when you hear the voice of some kind of glass breaking, followed by a heavy accented cursing and it changes your mind right away.
“Harry?” you softly call out as you walk down the stairs, not sure what to expect down there. He is crouching down, his back in your direction as he is trying to get the pieces of the broken glass up from the floor, but he is too disoriented to succeed in the task and it’s obvious that an injury is deemed to happen sooner or later.
“Harry, you’re gonna cut yourself!” you warn him, and walking over to him you pull him up from his squatting position and when he looks at you is when you realize that he is drunk out of his mind.
“Y/N, oh shit, did I—Did I wake you up?” he slurs, knitting his eyebrows together as he tries to focus his vision on you.
“You didn’t, but let me just—Why don’t you sit down for a moment while I clean this up, huh?” you suggest, pulling him towards the couch, making him sit. He falls to the cushion like dead weight, letting out a tired sigh while you rush to get a broom and a dustpan to get rid of the broken glass on the floor as fast as possible before someone cuts themselves.
“I’m so sorry, Y/N,” he breathes out closing his eyes.
“It’s okay. I’ll just clean it up quickly,” you assure him, getting down to business.
“Not about the g-glass. Well, about that as well…”
“Then why are you sorry?” you ask, as you sweep the shards onto the dustpan and throw them into the closest trashcan.
“About being… a pain in the ass,” he hiccups.
“You are not a pain in the ass,” you chuckle softly as you sit beside him.
“I am. I fucked things up,” he nods with a painful expression all over his handsome face.
“What do you mean?” You know you shouldn’t make him talk in this state, but you can’t help your curiosity. It seems like drunkenness makes his tongue run wild and you are desperate for the tiniest crumble of information about what’s going on in his head.
“I just… I kissed you,” he breathes out, his eyes popping open, but he is staring at the ceiling, not you.
“And?” you ask, trying to act cool, though your pulse is rapidly increasing.
“And I shouldn’t have done that.”
“Oh.” You lick your lips and try not to show how much that hurt. But even drunk, Harry notices the disappointment in your tone. His glassy eyes snap over to you and his face falls right away.
“That’s not how I mean it!” he gasps, reaching for your hand and you’re surprised by the sudden physical touch, but it feels kind of nice, so you let him hold your hand between his arm palms. “It’s not like I didn’t enjoy it, because fucking hell, it was amazing!” he bluntly tells you and you can already feel the heat crawling up your neck.
“Really?”
“Yes!”
“Then why did you tell me all of that in my room just earlier now?”
Harry pulls his hands back and moves his arms across his face, covering his eyes as he slides down the couch, his legs spreading out in front of him. He lets out a shaky whimper and seeing him like this worries you a lot. Harry is always in control, he has never let him fall apart like this before.
“Because… I don’t deserve to feel this way,” he confesses, confusing you even more. What is he talking about?
“Why wouldn’t you?”
He shakes his head under his arms, biting into his bottom lip as he inhales deeply, like he is trying to keep something inside, something you shouldn’t know about, but now you are desperate to find it out.
“I’m a fucking mess,” he breathes out, letting his arms fall to his sides, but he keeps his eyes closed, shutting you out in a way. “I don’t deserve to have these feelings,” he repeats again and it appears he is more likely talking to himself, rather than to you.
“Harry, what are you talking about?”
“I can’t tell you. I can’t tell you, because if I did, you’d never be able to look at me again.”
Now he is crying. Tears are rolling down his cheeks and his lips are trembling and you’ve never seen him in such a vulnerable state and quite frankly, it scares you. You knew him to be a strong and stable man, but now he resembles a frightened little boy, so lost in this big world.
“I’m pretty sure it’s not that bad, Harry.”
“It is,” he winces, as if it’s causing him physical pain to even talk about it.
“Harry…” You breathe out and moving closer you place a hand on his knee, giving it a gentle, reassuring squeeze. He turns to face you, his eyes all watered and glistening, he looks so heartbroken, it almost pains you as well.
“Promise me you won’t see me as a monster,” he whispers.
“I-I promise,” you nod, already bearing yourself for the worst, judging from the look on his face.
Taking a deep breath he looks around, as if he is making sure no one else is listening. Then his eyes fall down to his hands in his lap, he fidgets with his fingers, his tongue running along his pink lips before he takes a deep breath and speaks up again.
“Maggie’s death… It was all my fault. I fucking… killed my own wife.”
His voice dies down at the end of the sentence, staring into the void, completely zoned out as you sit beside him, shocked at his words. This was not exactly what you were expecting him to say. Harry starts sobbing again, the hot tears running down his cheeks as he starts crying and panic sets in you. He is so out of his own world, you have no idea what’s happening to him. Rushing over to the mini fridge, you grab a water for him, thinking it might help him at least after all the alcohol he has consumed.
“Here, drink some water,” you softly tell him, taking the cap off as you hand him the bottle. He takes it with a shaky hand and raising it to his trembling lips he takes a few small sips. “Harry, what do you mean it was your fault?” you ask, knowing well you probably shouldn’t push it, but you can’t just ignore what he said.
“Exactly what I said,” he sobs shaking his head vigorously. “It was all my fault, I was a fucking coward and that’s why she died! I could have stopped her! I should have gone after her!”
He is not answering you, not entirely. He is speaking thoughts that have been planted in his head a long time ago and they seem to be on repeat whenever he is feeling down. As much as you want to get more details out of him, he needs to rest, especially because he is working in the morning.
“Come on, let’s get you to bed, H,” you tell him as you stand up and reach out for him to help him to his unsteady feet. It turns out to be a little harder than you expected, but you manage to get him up from his sitting position, and throwing one of his arms over your shoulders you start to walk him up towards his bedroom.
“You fucking hate me now, don’t you?” he slurs, his other hand reaching out towards the wall to steady himself a little more.
“I don’t hate you, Harry.”
“But you think I’m a monster, right?”
“I’m not sure I know enough to think anything about you. This is a conversation we should have when you’re sober,” you suggest and he huffs.
“M’sorry for getting drunk in the middle of the night.”
“It’s alright. But I think you’ll have a mean headache in the morning,” you tease him as you finally reach the upstairs and head down the hallway towards his room.
“You’re a fucking angel, Y/N. You know that?” He just keeps talking and talking and you find it funny how different he is from his reserved and quiet self in this state.
“Am I?”
“Yeah. You are. You are so good to my daughter and to me as well… I really don’t get why your fucker ex cheated on you,” he huffs and you can’t help the smile that tugs on your lips. “What was his name? Kyle?”
“Keith,” you correct him.
“That fucker, Keith!” he spats making you laugh as you push his bedroom’s door open and walk him inside finally. “I bet he had a small dick.”
“Why does that matter,” you chuckle, making him sit on the edge of the bed.
“Because guys with small dicks are always out of touch with themselves. They think they are just better than everyone for some reason.”
“Do you have any scientific research to prove that?” you tease him as you push him down, tugging him under the covers, like a little kid.
“No, I just… know shit,” he sighs, his eyes falling closed the moment his head rests on the pillow.
“Alright. You can tell me more about what else you know when you’re sober. Now get some sleep, because you have work in the morning.”
You make sure he lies on his side as he hums his response. Reaching down you brush his messy curls out of his forehead as he breathes out harshly through his nose, probably about to fall asleep any moment.
Tapping on the screen of his phone on the nightstand you make sure that he has set up his alarm and you see the little alarm clock icon at the top bar so you are just about to walk out when you turn back around.
Seeing how he pushed so many things down inside of him, you’re not convinced he’ll be willing to give you the answers you are looking for. You’re afraid he might talk himself out and give you some kind of bullshit answer, so reaching for his phone you sneakily take his thumb and open the device, all whilst he doesn’t even move an inch.
Scrolling through his contacts you find Niall’s number and send it over to yourself before deleting the message so you leave no trail behind. You set the phone back to his nightstand and head out finally, going to bed as well, right after sending Niall a quick message.
Y/N: Hi! It’s Y/N, I got your number from Harry’s phone. Can you come by sometime tomorrow? I need to talk to you about something.
Tumblr media
When you come down in the morning it’s pretty obvious that even though Harry had his alarm on, he snoozed one too many times and now he is in a rush, trying to get everything done and leave on time.
“Good morning,” you greet him and Izzy upon walking into the kitchen. Harry’s head snaps up from the half-made breakfast in front of him and judging by his expression, he more or less remembers what happened last night. “Rough morning?” you ask teasing him to ease the tension.
“Uh, yeah. Woke up a little late,” he nods, finishing up Izzy’s sandwich just the way she likes, without the crust on before handing it over to her. Izzy grabs the plate and marches over to the dining table, quietly munching on her food while Harry quickly tries to make himself a coffee, but he is a hot mess, still in his night clothes when he is supposed to leave in about ten minutes.
“I’ll make you the coffee, go and get changed,” you offer, taking over the machine.
“Oh, thank you,” he nods and for a change, he doesn’t try to argue with you, he just disappears upstairs.
You make his coffee just as he likes and leave it on the counter for him before joining Izzy at the table with your own breakfast. She is babbling about how excited she is for her piano lesson today, because she’s been practicing a lot lately. When Harry appears again he is dressed for work, but still looks a little disoriented.
“Hey,” you softly say as you join him in the kitchen.
“Hey, thank you for the coffee,” he nods, moving around the kitchen.
“No problem. How are you feeling?” you ask, hoping you’re not crossing any boundaries. Harry opens his mouth to answer, but then closes, probably not sure how much he should share, though he didn’t have too much problem with that last night.
“I’m… A little hangover, but I’m… fine,” he nods shortly. “Y/N, about last night, I—“
“We can talk about it later, okay? Don’t stress about it.” You give him a reassuring smile and you can tell he is sort of relieved he doesn’t have to have this conversation right in this moment.
“Thank you.”
“No worries. And I’ll clean up in the kitchen, don’t be late,” you smile at him warmly. You can tell he wants to protest, but he also knows he is running late so he doesn’t have much choice.
“Thank you, I’ll… see you later.”
Storming over to Izzy he presses a kiss to her forehead before grabbing all his stuff and leaving.
Niall texts you back not long after breakfast that he is free to drop by when Izzy is having her piano lesson. You carry on with the morning as usual, trying your best not to dwell on everything that happened last night.
Just as Rosaline and Izzy get settled for the lesson you hear a car pulling up outside and a few moments later the doorbell rings through the house.
“Let’s get one thing straight, is it a booty call?” Niall questions right away as you let him inside.
“It’s good to see you again,” you chuckle, shaking your head at him.
“So no sex is gonna be involved?” he smirks and you know he is just teasing you.
“No, sorry to disappoint.”
“Oh, you can never disappoint me, darling,” he winks at you before walking into the kitchen to serve himself a drink. “So why did you need to see me so desperately?”
“Well, I know I shouldn’t be discussing this with you first, but I feel like I need to know some basic information that Harry might not give me so I thought you could help me out.” Niall nods as he pours himself some soda and joins you at the kitchen island, sitting on the stool next to you. “I uhh—I need to ask how much Harry shared with you about… about me—and, um what—“
“Save the stuttering, I know you two kissed,” Niall cuts you off and you breathe out in relief that you don’t have to be the one breaking him the news.
“Oh, okay,” you nod with an awkward smile. “Yeah, so that happened. And last night he and I had this conversation how we should just keep our relationship professional and all that. We both went our own way but then later I found Harry down in the entertainment room, drunk and basically having a meltdown of some sort.”
“How drunk was he?” Niall asks, knitting his eyebrows together.
“Pretty drunk. He broke a glass and he was… crying and talking about a lot of stuff.” Niall takes your words in as he inhales deeply, just nodding for you to continue. “He started telling me how sorry he was for fucking things up and he was a mess, like a huge fucking mess. Then he told me about how he shouldn’t be feeling the way he does, because he doesn’t deserve it…”
“Jesus…” Niall shakes his head, probably already knowing where this is heading.
“And then he told me that his wife’s death was his fault. That was… pretty intense.”
“I can imagine.”
“I know I have to talk to him about it, but I’m really afraid he might shake it off, but it seems like he is having some serious issues and I wouldn’t want things to get out of hands. That’s why I thought I would talk to you, maybe you know what to do or how to approach him with such a sensitive subject.”
“Yeah, I get it. It’s nice of you for being so considerate,” Niall nods, scratching his chin. “Alright, I’ll tell you what I know, but please also let him tell you if he decides to share it with you.” You nod and turn all your attention to him. “I didn’t find this out until about two months after Maggie’s death, but apparently, the night she died they had a fight. Maggie had been nagging Harry to have another baby, but he wanted to wait a little longer, until Izzy is older so they don’t have two babies at the same time. Harry said they had another big fight about it, said some pretty nasty things to each other before Maggie just stormed out to go over to her sister’s. She made it there, but… never made it back home.”
A shiver runs down your spine at the thought of how devastating it must have been, losing your partner after an intense fight without ever making up.
“Understandably, Harry completely lost his shit. For weeks he was barely functioning and we all knew he was grieving, but we didn’t know that he was blaming himself for what happened. When he wasn’t getting any better we somehow convinced him to go to therapy which luckily helped him immensely, but he stopped going a while ago. I thought he got things straight in his head about this whole Maggie situation, but I guess he is still hung up on that.”
“What about the drinking, did that happen a lot?”
“Not that I know of. I mean, yeah, he got wasted quite a few times, but only at the beginning. I don’t think you should be afraid that he might turn into an alcoholic. I think he is just really struggling right now because of the conflict he is having because of you.”
“Because of me?”
“Yeah, he is clearly very confused about his feelings for you and he has convinced himself he shouldn’t feel this way towards anyone ever, but then you came,” he chuckles softly giving you a knowing look.
“Niall, I don’t know what I’m supposed to do,” you breathe out, worry and fear slowly taking over your judgment.
“First and foremost just… be patient with him, okay? This is genuinely the first time he has taken an interest in anyone since Maggie and I think he has already taken some big steps, which is a good sign. Try to talk to him and be open, but don’t push him. I know it can be really annoying when he keeps things, but let him tell you everything at his own pace.”
You nod, understanding the importance of not rushing Harry into anything. Just because you want to get over the awkwardness of the current situation, you can’t push him over his own boundaries.
“Okay, I’ll try to do that,” you nod taking a deep breath. “Thank you, Niall.”
“Oh, and don’t let him give you the ‘you work for me, we shouldn’t be doing this’ bullshit alright? He’ll try to make it out to be some kind of business, but it’s not. He needs to get himself out there and I genuinely think you’re the right person to help him with that.”
His words touch you and you’re not even sure how to react. Niall is clearly someone who stands close to Harry and if he thinks that you and him should give it a try, that must mean something. You can only hope that Harry will come around and think the same at one point.

Izzy gets a little fussy by the end of the day and it takes a lot of persuading to get her to bed in the evening. Harry arrived back home on his usual time and because it’s been such a hot day outside, he took her out to the pool. The problem with that is that Izzy never wants to get out of the water, so when Harry said it’s time for dinner she threw a bit of a tantrum as Harry brought her inside and her mood didn’t get any better later either.
You spent most of your night in the living room just watching TV and working on your laptop, updating your schedule for the upcoming weeks and doing some editing. Harry stays upstairs with Izzy for a long time when her bedtime comes and you figure she is still a little moody, but then you eventually hear his footsteps approaching. Harry pads his way into the living room and joins you on the couch. When you glance over at him you know he is trying to find a way to start the conversation you both know you need to have, so you put your laptop aside and turn your attention towards him.
“Y/N, I’m really sorry about last night. I’m honestly so terribly ashamed you had to… see me like that,” he starts, clearly nervous to bring it all up.
“It’s fine, happens to everyone,” you assure him and it’s the genuine truth.
“It’s not a regular occurrence, really. I usually know my limits and try to stay within them. I’m really sorry for making you uncomfortable.”
“Harry, don’t worry about it,” you tell him again with a warm smile. “We can get past it. I think what we really should talk about is… what you said. Do you remember what we talked about?” you carefully ask.
“I do…” he nods, awkward diverting his eyes away from you. “I’m sorry I told you all that in that state, I didn’t… I didn’t mean to just pour it all on you so suddenly.”
“It’s alright.” “No, it’s not,” he protests shaking his head. “I dropped a bomb on you because I couldn’t deal with my own problems the right way, and it’s not okay. So please, just… accept my apology.”
“Okay, I accept it,” you nod.
“And about the whole thing with… What I told you about Maggie…”
“Just know that you don’t have to talk about it now if you don’t want to. I’m happy to listen whenever you are ready to, but I’m not trying to push you.”
“I know and thank you for that, but I feel like… I owe you an explanation,” he admits and you nod, happy that he is willing to talk instead of closing himself off entirely. “The day Maggie died, we got into this huge fight and she ran off to her sister. It was… a whole mess, we both said things we clearly didn’t mean and I texted her, tried to get her to come home so we could talk things out. That’s when… she was on her way home when it happened and… I still feel like it was my fault.” His voice dies down at the end, just like it did last night when he was talking about her. It clearly left a deep scar on him that’s still not entirely healed and you can’t blame him.
“Everyone keeps telling me that it wasn’t, that it was just all one big coincidence, but all I can think about is that she would still be here if we didn’t get into the fight and I didn’t piss her off so much she felt the need to leave.”
“There was no way for you to see what would happen, Harry. It’s not like you did it on purpose, you had no power over the drunk driver or where Maggie chose to drive home. It really was a coincidence.”
“I know, I mean… I understand, but somehow, my mind keeps telling me that it was my fault.”
“Have you thought about… getting professional help?” you ask, trying to be polite and cautious on the topic.
“Actually, I just called my therapist today to see if… she can fit me in for some sessions,” he admits and you’re surprised at how great he is dealing with the matter. “I feel like I might need some guidance again, before things get out of my hands.”
“That’s great! It really is good to go a bit ahead of problems.”
“Yeah. About us…” he exhales nervously, his eyes meeting yours and you can tell this is the part that’s got him the most anxious. You take this as your queue to take over the conversation.
“Harry, I’m going to be honest with you,” you start and he nods, chewing on his bottom lip. “I… I have feelings for you. You haven’t been the only one making realizations,” you add with a soft chuckle, that brings a smile to his lips as well. “I know that the situation is not quite ideal, but it’s not impossible. But I just want you to be honest with me, do you have feelings for me?”
The conflict is clearer than daylight in his eyes as he is trying to figure out what to say and you really hope he isn’t gonna try to mask his feelings.
“I do,” he then admits and it’s like a giant rock has been lifted off your chest and shoulders. “It’s just… I’m not sure how to deal with it.”
“That’s alright,” you tell him. “Let’s just… take it slow. We’re not in a rush, we obviously have a lot to figure out and that’s completely fine. The pace is completely up to you, I know that you need to get a lot of things straight in your head and I can wait, okay? I’m not going anywhere, I really like where we are now and… I just hope that we can move this forward whenever you feel comfortable with it.”
Harry stares back at you for a moment like you’re some alien creature. Like what you just said wasn’t normal or even human and that’s quite heartbreaking, because somewhere along the way he managed to convince himself that he is not worthy of the most basic decency.
“I-I can’t ask you to wait around while I figure my shit out, that’s not—“
“You’re not asking me, Harry,” you smile at him softly. “This is my decision.”
His eyes are shifting between yours and he is most likely looking for any sign of doubt or qualm, but there’s none, you genuinely meant everything you said.
“So, where does this leave us?” he then asks and you shrug your shoulders.
“Everything goes on like it used to and… whenever you are ready to take a step, just… let me know.”
You can tell he is filled with questions, but he just nods with a weak smile and leaves it at that. This will be a bumpy ride, but at least you are more or less on the same page now.
Tumblr media
You haven’t been a big fan of birthday celebrations. You just never understood the big fuss about it, throwing a party for surviving another year? Seems a little weird. This is why you never treated this day any different.
The morning starts off as usual, only that you wake up to a few texts from friends and family, wishing you a happy birthday. Your mom has sent you a whole damn paragraph about how you made her life complete and it wouldn’t be the same without you in it. She does that every time, gets a little too sentimental about it, but you guess it’s because it reminds her of getting old herself as well, which is a sensitive topic in her book these days.
It’s a Sunday, so a day off for you. Coming downstairs you find Izzy and Harry sitting at the dining table, already having their breakfast as usual, but when she sees you, she jumps in her seat in excitement.
“Good morning, Y/N!” she beams with a wide smile, buzzing more than she usually does.
“Morning, Sunshine. Slept well?” you ask as you pour yourself some cereal and join them at the table. Izzy nods and then peeks at her father as if she is trying to hide something with him from you.
“Daddy, can we do it now?” she asks in a whisper, but it’s not quiet enough for you to not hear it.
Your eyes lock with Harry’s over the table and the butterflies in your stomach start dancing around right away when you see the tiny smirk tugging on his lips.
It’s been almost an entire week since your conversation with him and things finally seem to get in place for now. Harry had his first session with his therapist on Wednesday and though you can tell he is still trying to find his own boundaries, he doesn’t worry as much about the situation as he probably did before. He isn’t walking on eggshells around you, unsure how to act. More or less it’s the same as it was before the kiss, but there are tiny little things that still make it different. Stolen glances, lingering touches and sweet smiles are making your days more colorful now and it’s gotten you all giddy and… happy.
“What are you two plotting, huh?” you ask, pointing at them with your spoon before digging into the cereal. Izzy glances at Harry one last time and when he nods shortly, she turns to you and throws her arms in the air.
“Happy birthday, Y/N!” she cheers as Harry reaches over to the chair next to him and pulls up a box from under the table, handing it over to Izzy so she could give it to you. “This is for you!”
“You shouldn’t have gotten me anything!” you gasp, truly surprised by the gift. You were not expecting it at all.
“It’s not a birthday without gifts!” she giggles excitedly as she hands the box over. You push your cereal bowl to the side and set the gift to the table in front of you. “Open it!” she urges you, her little hands curled into fists as she watches your every move, as if it was her who just got a present.
Your eyes meet Harry’s green ones over the table once more and he is watching you with a small smile, probably enjoying that he could surprise you.
You pull on the bow on the top and then carefully take the wrapping paper off until the box is revealed underneath and you gas as soon as you realize what this is.
“Oh my God!” you breathe out in disbelief as you take a better look at the gift. Harry didn’t just get you something, he actually listened to what you were saying and remembered that you’re a big fan of oldschool cameras and you have a special love for polaroids. And now, in front of you in the box is your very own polaroid camera, something you’ve been really wanting to buy for yourself for a long time, but you just never got around to actually do it.
“Do you like it? Daddy said you’d really like it!” Izzy asks with big eyes, watching your reaction.
“Oh, I love it!” you breathe out, feeling all mushy and melted from the gesture. Izzy climbs over to your lap, hugging your neck. You wrap your arms around her in a bone crushing hug and you’re so thankful for having them both in your life.
Izzy sits on your lap as you get the camera out of the box and figure out how to work it. She then hops off your lap and poses for the first ever picture taken with your new favorite camera.
“But it’s blank!” she furrows her eyebrows when the photo comes out.
“Because you have to wait for it to develop. It’ll show up in a few minutes,” you smile, setting the photo down on the table.
Izzy sits in her seat, excitedly waiting for the photo to develop and in the meanwhile you join Harry in the kitchen where he is washing the dishes. He spots you and turns the tap off, turning to face you as he dries his hands off.
“You shouldn’t have gotten me anything,” you tell him softly, but really feel touched by the gesture.
“No, but I wanted to. Do you really like it?”
“I love it!” you chuckle in disbelief. How could he think you wouldn’t like it?!
You move forward, aiming for a hug out of instinct but then stop yourself, not wanting to cross any boundaries, but Harry notices the motion and for your surprise, he wraps you in a warm hug on his own. You melt against his hard chest, your nose buried into his shoulder as your arms circle around his waist.
When you lean back, you both keep your arms around each other, eyes meeting and you realize just how close you are to each other. Without even knowing, your gaze flickers down to his lips and you’re dying to kiss him, to feel them again, but you don’t move, wanting to keep your word about letting him set the pace.
But what you didn’t expect is Harry leaning down and capturing your lips in a sweet, innocent kiss. It’s so different from the last time, that was a hot mess, but this one… this is light as a feather but still makes your stomach somersault as you taste his lips, cupping his face in your hands.
“Daddy! I’m thirsty!” Izzy calls out from outside and it kind of ends the moment. Harry pulls back and when you look at him you see that his eyes are still closed. They flutter open a moment later, finding your gaze and you look for any kind of regret or fear in them, but they are nothing but shiny.
“Just a moment, baby!” he answers her, a small smile tugging on his lips as he leans down and pecks the corner of your mouth again before his hands fall from your waist. “Happy birthday, Y/N,” he breathes out before grabbing a bottled water and heading back to Izzy.
You bring your fingertips to your tingling lips as you take a moment to really process what just happened and you can’t push down the smile that spreads across your face. Harry finally took the first step and now you can’t wait to see what’s coming next.

As a new worker in a big restaurant, there are a few words one could dread to hear. For example, 'You're fired' sounds horrifying, gut wrenching, all your student loans flash before your eyes. It's scary, yes, but it's not as dreadful as the infamous —
"Can I see your manager?"
"Ma'am I already told you the restaurant opens at 11:30 am, and none of the staff arrives before 11, but I'd be happy to serve you at 11:30" you assured.
BANG!
One of the three ladies with a blonde bob cut hit at the door again.
"We don't talk to low class workers, call your manager!" Called out another from the group while the bangs continued. It was so loud you were almost afraid that they will tear this place down.
"Because of the unavailability of the manager, a low class worker is all you'll have to speak to for now," you spat, "but I'd be happiest if you don't speak to me at all"
Numerous loud gasps were heard. If the head chef heard you talking like this, you'll be out of the restaurant sooner than these karens can call your manager.
"HOW DARE YOU TALK LIKE THAT TO A CUSTOMER???"
"Ma'am since you have not walked into the restaurant yet, you are not our customer." you tried to explain, "The restaurant opens at 11:30 ma'am which is just in an hour and a half, I suggest you wait outside on one of the tables."
Even though it was kinda against the rules to sit on the tables unless you eat at the restaurant, but you desperately needed to get rid of the situation. The restaurant didn't even open yet, so what could be the big deal about them sitting on the benches outside. You were just hoping your manager would be understanding.
Anticipating another harsh string of words from them, the total silence that hit you surprised you. You pulled the blinds lower and peeked through them. The ladies were seated on the chairs outside, looking through their phones. Even though a bit shocked that they decided to do what you asked so easily, you didn't wanna jinx it. You thanked your lucky stars and moved on to getting the coffee machine started.
The day hasn't even started yet and the karens are here to disrupt the place already. Being the newbie, you have to come early to get this place started and on top of that, people like them are making it even harder. You clearly don't get paid enough for this.
Moving on to wiping all the tables, you were wishing that when your manger arrives, he'll understand the situation. To come to think of it, he's actually a good man and been nothing but nice to you since you joined here a month ago. He even covered up for you when you broke a plate. Another time he took the blame upon himself when you put a bit too much salt in of the dishes and a few people left unsatisfied. He's been sheltering you ever since you joined here and you've been enjoying this more than you should. Yet you still can't help but hope he handles it this time too and saves you from these heinous Karens.
brrring brrring brrring!!
The sounds catches you off guard not because of it's sudden penetration into the too good to be true silence, but because it shouldn't be ringing when it's the restaurant's hours closed. Nevertheless against your better judgement you pick it up and place the receiver between your ear and shoulder.
"Thanks for calling the Nile's! My name is y/n, how can I help you today?"
"We have a coupon for a free meal at your restaurant and we demand you open it right now!!"
this bitch—
"Ma'am as I explained already, the restaurant opens at 11:30 and if you walk in by then, I'll be happy to serve you and make use of your coupons too." Is it too early to quit?
"Am I talking to the manager?" she asked penetratingly.
"The manager is not here yet, but as soon as he arrives, I'll make sure you're the first person he talks to." you tried calmly hoping it would help.
The woman on the line took a deep breath but nothing could prepare you for the coming onslaught of distress.
"Missy you've been saying this to us since the morning and yet your manager isn't here. You should not open a restaurant when you do not know how to run it.”
She was so loud you couldn't even hear yourself losing the will to live.
"You do not know my husband. If he gets to know about the way you've treated me today, your restaurant will be closed forever." She threatened and you could hear her talking from the outside. Did she know that you did not own the restaurant?? "You should be grateful to me for not telling. Now open this damn door RIGHT NOW!!”
Another round of bangs started ringing and it echoed through the walls. They seemed louder than you know they should've been. And it was the trigger. The helplessness of the situation created panic. Your eyes unfocused, your stomach churned and your heartbeat escalated. You felt trapped.
Her shrill sound coming from the phone felt like it was piercing your ear drums and you could no longer understand what she was saying. So you slammed the receiver back into place, not knowing what to do anymore.
The grip on the cloth between your fingers seemed weak. You have always been a strong woman, dealing with irrational people all your life since you spent most of it around such people. But the karens have been tormenting you since the past 30 minutes and it was bound to get to you, sooner or later. Though you'd hoped for later rather than sooner. They way they started banging on the door while demanding something from you seemed so familiar to the way your parents banged on your bedroom door when you locked yourself in to save yourself from them.
Anywho, the situation is delayed for now and you have to calm down and start working again or you won't be done till the rest of the staff comes around. You don't know till when you'll be living under Yoongi's shadows and he'll be protecting you.
You put your hands on your face and let out a deep breath. Back to work bitches.
You started wiping the tables again, trying to think about something else. That 'something else' had a lot of options for you like, how are you going to repay your student loan that you took to go to college and didn't even help you land a decent job, or how your mom has been pestering you since months to get married and you haven't the found the best way to tell her yet that you wanna focus on your career for now and become a chef, or... well let's just say you had better things to worry about. But your train off thoughts was cut short when the phone rang again.
You already knew who was calling, so you decided against picking up. The ear splitting sound of the phone again echoed through the walls and it made you want to throw the phone against a wall. You know the restaurant phones should be loud enough to be heard by the staff even when the place is busy, but it did not help with the way it was making you feel.
After what seemed like forever, it stopped ringing and you went on to work again. The phone rang several times after that and with each ring, you felt your patience slipping farther away from you. You had half the mind to pick up the phone and tell them off, but you knew it would only anger them further. Yet you couldn't let this go on so after at least a dozen calls, you decided to pick it up.
"Thanks for calling at the Nile's! My name is y/n how can I help you today?" you spoke through a sigh.
"I'VE BEEN CALLING AT THIS DAMN RESTAURANT SINCE THE PAST 2 HOURS AND NOBODY HAS PICKED IT UP." she bellowed. If you thought she was loud and shrill earlier, you would change your mind now. Also, 2 hours????? you weren’t even here 2 hours ago!
"I HAVE GOT ALL THAT YOU HAVE DONE ON MY PHONE AND I WILL POST THIS ALL ON FACEBOOK THE WAY YOU HAVE TREATED ME IS NOT AT ALL A WAY TO TREAT A CUSTOMER." she didn't even pause for a breath "WAIT TILL MY HUSBAND HEARS ABOUT THIS."
You didn't dare say anything for the fear that anything that may come out of your mouth right now, may anger her further, considering, you were not the manager she hoped to talk to.
There was small hustle on the other end. You could hear the ladies outside arguing a little. After a short pause, someone spoke again.
"Am I talking to manager?" this was not the woman who yelled at you earlier but someone else.
"Yes you are, ma'am"
You let out a small shriek. Surprised to see the receiver that was in your hands a moment ago, placed against Yoongi's ear. When the hell did he get here and how did you not even realize?? Even so, a strange feeling of safety filled up your chest at the sight of him and you felt like you could breath again.
"No ma'am, we cannot do that for you. As y/n here explained to you, the restaurant opens at 11:30 and no exceptions will be made for anyone." he explained calmly and it had you hoping that they'd listen to him if not you.
"I'm sorry for the inconvenience caused to you ma'am."
You just stood being a witness to one side of the conversation. You could hear someone talking outside the restaurant as well, but couldn't make out their exact words.
You admired his calm even in such a patronizing situation. At least to you, it was that way. In your eyes, he seemed so serene, his lips moved to utter the most calming sounds and you felt like you'd hand over your life to him if he asked you for it.
You really needed to practice professional work ethics when it came to him.
"Yes we will take care of this in the future, thank you for your suggestion."
"Ma'am we do not accept any kind of coupons for any of the meals provided here. Are you sure it is the same restaurant?"
Wait. But we do accept coupons here at the Nile's...
"No ma'am we cannot do that for you. There is no such policy, and we do not accept coupons."
"You can totally go ahead and call the police for yourself and we'll be sure to tell them how have harassed one of our workers over here." He said in an unbothered tone, gaze floating to you and you strangely found yourself looking away.
"Sure thing. Thank you for calling!"
And he placed the receiver back, as if job accomplished.
"Are you okay y/n?" He questioned. In his deep eyes, you saw genuine concern for yourself and you wanted to stay there for some while more. His voice was music to your ears and you did not want your own voice to taint the air around.
But he asked you something.
"Yeah." you said breathlessly and cleared your throat. "Yes, I'm fine, thanks for the help Yoongi"
It was something he insisted you call him even though the rules say he is your senior and should be addressed as so.
"Such people are so irritating and do not deserve to be let out of their homes. What kind of a husband would it be, huh!" he wondered, "though I question if there is any husband at all or she was just bluffing."
"Yeah I know right?" you didn't know what to say. "Though it was really impressive the way you handled them, I could never!"
He laughed at that. Sounded so heavenly, your knees kind of gave out.
And it was another day when he saved you. Why does he do that for you? Why was he here here so early? Why does he even try to get to close to you?
These are questions you do not have the answers to yet. You hope to get them someday. But you are happy they you are right now. Or maybe you are too afraid that the answers to these questions wouldn't be what you'd like to hear. Maybe he was just being nice and you being a horndog took the hint wrong way.
But for now, you have all the time (45 mins max before some other employee comes) to enjoy this moment with him alone in the closed restaurant, surrounded by the smell of food and his cologne and you have no idea which you like better. You wouldn't have it any other way.

The Family We Make
Companion piece to Leaving the Nest (can be read in any order)
Ao3
After Bradford is defeated, it takes hours for the adrenaline of the day to wear off.
Fenton calls his mother, who brings half of Duckburg’s police force over much sooner than should be humanly possible. Any questioning stares are met with amused shrugs and Gyro’s passionate declaration to never get between Officer M.A.M.A. Cabrera and her son. Spoken from experience, of course. Officer Cabrera’s officers and the superheroes present arrest FOWL’s goons. (Pepper gives May and June goodbye hugs.)
The villains are gone, of course, having split with the help of Magica’s sorcery and a harmless raven on her shoulder. They’d left with winks and playful smiles tossed over their shoulders. Almost friendly, but not quite. Familiar. The promises of future tussles and battles left unsaid in the desert air. No one says anything outright, but the villains’ smooth departure puts a smile on everyone’s faces. It’s the promise of a next time. Of countless adventures to come. Bradford, for all his meticulous and careful planning, lost.
Goldie steals Manny away to ride into the nearest town and comes back with a cooler of snacks. Uncle Scrooge - Dad (Dad!) - and Granny level their fiercest glares at her and pointedly ask if she paid for them. Goldie giggles behind her hand and avoids the question, dropping a packaged ice cream cone in Dewey’s hands. He lights up, and Dad melts just like the ice cream under the hot desert sun.
Webby, sitting blissfully between Dad and Granny, has a perfect view of their conversation with Goldie. She keeps shooting Webby weird looks, like she isn’t quite sure what to make of her. Honestly, Webby doesn’t really blame her. Webby has always been Granny’s granddaughter through and through, and she inherited Granny’s disdain for Goldie and protectiveness of Dad.
Webby leans against Dad, and he puts an arm around her. Steady and protective, although she can feel his heart fluttering in his chest. He’s exhausted too - he went through perhaps the most today, at least physically. They’re both too tired to speak, at least right now, but they’re content enough to be in each others’ presence.
Dewey leads the other kids to the ice cream, and they wave her over. Gosalyn passes a cone to her, and Huey hands her a napkin. She sits sandwiched between Boyd and June, eating ice cream on the ramp of the plane. Violet is holding Lena’s cone because Lena is busy weaving friendship bracelets for May and June.
Webby glances back to where Dad and Granny have set up camp. Members of their family are filtering through, offering assistance and comfort. Donald’s leading a team to fix the plane, and Ludwig is bringing a group through FOWL’s headquarters like a tour guide, to pick up any evidence and missing mysteries. Gyro is off to the side, painstakingly fixing Boyd’s body and the Gizmosuit, with Della hovering over his shoulder and making snarky remarks he pretends to be bothered by.
Soon they’ll be in the air, and she still hasn’t talked to Dad. Really talked to him.
Fear starts to pool in Webby’s gut. He seemed to take it well enough, but that was in the middle of the fight. What if he doesn’t want to be her father? What if this changes her relationship with her other family members?
Webby squeezes her cone so hard it cracks and melted ice cream spills onto her hand.
Why should a piece of parchment, magic or not, decide her family, when she’s spent years cultivating and choosing the perfect family of her own? For better or for worse?
A familiar hand waves in front of her face, green sleeves flapping in the slight breeze, and Webby jumps, startled. Her family, no longer contentedly eating their ice cream, are all staring at her with varying degrees of worry.
“Hey, Webs?” Louie blinks at her and shoves his hands back in the pocket. “You were kinda spacing out there.”
Webby shakes herself back into the present and grins sheepishly at him. “Sorry. What’s up?”
Louie jerks a thumb inside the plane. “Mom just came by. We’re about ready to start heading back. Reinforcements just got here, and they’re going to take everyone else home.”
Webby blinks and casts a quick glance around the desert, cultivated by years of spy training and adventuring. Della is indeed a few paces away, talking to Launchpad, next to the broken plane wing looking as good as new. On the other side of the plane, Amunet and D’jinn are talking to Goldie and Storkules as they enter Gladstone’s blimp. The desert is clearing out, and those who haven’t already left are busy packing up any supplies.
Dad and Granny amble over with the rest of the adults into the plane. Dad stops in front of them, placing his cane on the ground with a clink and folding his hands over it. He’s smiling, tired but fond. His eyes rest on Webby for a moment longer than everyone else before moving on.
“All ready, kids?” Dad asks, his beak quirking up in a familiar cocky smirk, and something fond settles in Webby’s gut.
“Ready,” she replies firmly with the rest of them, smiling, and enters the plane, ignoring her growing nervousness. She’s with her family now. She’s safe.
--
When they’re all safe and settled in the belly of the Sunchaser once again,  after Launchpad’s little snafu with the emergency hatch release, Webby seeks Dad out.
He’s sitting in the seat closest to the cockpit, talking with Aunt Daisy. Webby’s full to bursting with nervous energy, but, as she knows, it’s all for naught. His face lights up when he sees Webby coming. Aunt Daisy, as savvy and clever as she is, gives Webby a fond, knowing smile and slips away with a pat on Dad’s knee and a ruffle of Webby’s hair.
Hesitantly, Webby jumps into Aunt Daisy’s chair and maneuvers herself to face Dad. She busies herself for a few moments by fidgeting with her friendship bracelet.
Dad rearranges himself to face Webby, too. “What can I do for you, lass?” he asks, but she can tell from his tone he already knows where this conversation is going.
“So. Um.” Webby tugs at the hem of her skirt, bunching it up in her fists and hurriedly smoothing it out again. “Dad.”
“Dad,” he repeats, his voice full of wonder and amazement. A small smile tugs at his grin, threatening to burst and split his face.
“Can we talk?” Webby asks nervously. Her voice breaks a little on the word talk, and Dad noticeably winces.
“Of course,” he replies, awkward and stilted. “Go ahead.”
“Well…” Webby stares down at her skirt, then back up at Dad with glassy eyes. “Do you love me?”
Dad jerks, shocked. It’s clear that of all her questions, he certainly wasn’t expecting that one.
“Like a daughter,” Webby clarifies. “Do you love me like a daughter?”
Dad’s face changes, softens. It’s unreadable, but not unkind.
“Of course,” he replies softly.
Webby flinches and glances to the side, at the wall of the plane. Anywhere but Dad’s face. She tries to hide her discomfort, but it’s clear he notices.
“Do you… not want me to?” he tries.
Webby shakes her head. “Of course I do,” she replies softly.
“Then why…” he trails off. He has a million clauses he could finish the sentence with, but they all hang heavy in the air between them, unsaid.
Webby can’t look at him. “I… I don’t want you to only love me because I’m your daughter,” she replies. Her voice breaks on the word daughter. “I want you to love me because I’m me.”
“Webbigail Vanderquack.” Dad stares at her incredulously. “I paid full price for your birthday party. And it was only a front! How can you think I don’t love you?!”
A shocked giggle bursts out of Webby. After a moment, Dad joins her in his own giggling fit.
“I know you love me,” Webby replies quietly after their giggles have died down. Dad’s smile sags, and his expression turns serious and forlorn. “But it’s not the same. I- I know I’ve always been Granny’s granddaughter. It’s a little different. I love you, but I hate that we’re family because a missing mystery said so, and not because we love each other.”
Dad’s expression softens. “Oh, lassie.” He opens his arms, and Webby crawls into his embrace without a second thought.
Dad smooths her hair and tucks his chin onto her head. “Did you know,” he says, his voice muffled by the embrace, “that technically, May and June are my daughters too?”
Webby’s eyes burn. “Hmm?”
“Aye,” Dad continues. “If you were made from my DNA, and May and June were made from yours, then they’re a part of me too. Maybe they’re more like my granddaughters, but the point stands.”
Webby buries her face further into Dad’s coat and doesn’t respond. She’s not sure how too.
“Point being, May and June are my family, and I will treat them as such. I’m sure they’re marvelous young girls, and lovely sisters for you, my dear.”
Dad shifts his embrace so he can see her face. He holds her gaze with a steady and serious look.
“But they’re not my daughters. You, Webby darlin’, are. Do you know why?”
Webby shakes her head.
Dad hugs her tighter. “Because you always have been,” he replies, his voice thick, and oh. “Maybe not with that exact label, but, as Lena would say, labels are weird. You’re my family. You’re one of my kids. I know you, and I love you, Webby darlin’.”
“I… I know I didn’t make the effort to get to know you when you were young,” Dad continues. “I will be the first to admit I regret that. I’ve made a lot of mistakes when it comes to family. But I’ve had the honor of watching you grow these past years, and of being your family. And I wouldn’t trade that for the world.”
Webby nods. She knows they’re both thinking of earlier that day, when Scrooge’s declaration was put to the test, and won, but only narrowly. He doesn’t make that statement lightly.
Dad shifts, and his embrace loosens. His expression turns troubled and almost… nervous? It scares Webby by osmosis, but a part of her that she hasn’t processed yet thinks it’s comforting that he’s just as scared as she is. It’s new territory for both of them, but they’ll conquer it together.
“Webby, lass,” Dad begins, hesitantly. “Do you… not want me to be your father?”
Webby hums thoughtfully. Out of all the questions that had arisen in the wake of the Papyrus’ reveal, she hadn’t directly considered this one. It had been at the back of her mind, waiting, lingering.
Despite the lack of deliberation time, Webby knows the answer. She’s always known it, from the moment Bradford had confirmed her ancestry.
“Yes,” she says confidently, so firmly that it startles Dad. “It’s like you said. You’re my family, and that didn’t change.”
Dad’s face softens, and his shoulders slump with relief, and his grin threatens to split his face. Webby grins back, a mirror of his own.
“But,” she continues. “I… I like calling you Uncle Scrooge, too. It feels right to call myself your daughter, but it also feels right to call myself your niece. Does… is that okay? Does that make sense?”
“Of course,” Dad replies, shifting his arms. “I think I know how you feel. You are my daughter, and my niece. You’re one of my kids, and that will never change.”
He smiles wryly. “I do like having this special connection to you, though, lass. I have many heirs, but you’re the heir of Clan McDuck. That’s not something to take lightly. I’m proud of you.”
“I’ve never had a father,” she says after a minute. “Granny told me about a father, and a mother, too, but I never really knew them. But I’ve always had you.”
“Aye, Blaise,” Dad replies. “Your so-called ‘mother’ was your grandmother’s niece, if I remember correctly. Arianna. She and Blaise were sweet, if a bit airheaded, from what your grandmother’s told me. They were in a car crash shortly before you were bo- before your grandmother brought you home.”
Webby hums. “I didn’t know they were real.”
“Aye, they were very real,” Dad confirms. “As I’m sure Louie or Goldie will tell you, the best lies are closest to the truth. I’m sure they would love you, dear.”
“I don’t know them,” Webby counters softly. She tilts her head back to look Dad in the eyes. “I never will. But I know you.”
He beams at her. “Exactly, lassie.”
Webby shifts back into his embrace, and they sit together for a minute, the plane’s rumblings shaking them both slightly.
“Does this mean Goldie is my mom now?” Webby asks suddenly, her beak quirking into a grin.
Dad startles and squawks. “Ack, no! I know Louie calls her Aunt Goldie, for all the blasted- but now. Er, I suppose, that’s up to you, lassie,” he finishes somewhat awkwardly.
Webby smiles contentedly and leans her cheek against the fabric of his coat. “That’s okay,” she replies. “It’s my family and I get to choose the members.”
Dad grins proudly, and they lapse back into silence for another few minutes. The adrenaline, both from the harrowing events of the day and the nerve-wracking yet highly anticipated conversation with dad, slips out of her veins, and the heaviness of sleep tugs at Webby’s eyes.
Dad eventually breaks the drowsy, comfortable silence. “I’m proud to call you my daughter.” he murmurs into her hair, and Webby beams. “I’m proud you’re my family, not because that blasted Papyrus says so, but because you chose me. That means more to me than all the money in my Money Bin.”
Webby snuggles deeper into his embrace, her eyelids drifting closed. “Likewise, Dad. I love you.”
He smooths her hair down. The last thing she hears before she falls asleep, blissful and safe, is: “I love you too, Webby darlin’.”

god i. finale came out today and anyone who’s talked to me can verify that i’ve been in constant Duck Mode all day. head full only ducks. i’ve been struggling with motivation lately (as always lmao) but it struck today in the form of my absolute favorite dynamic in the entire show.
if you were in my circles back in 2018, around when confidential casefiles aired, you might remember that i talked a lot about webby and scrooge. i remember requesting them in almost every writing prompt request i was offered. i don’t talk about them much nowaways, and i’m not sure why, because i still love them. regardless of how you feel about the twist in the finale, the pure, unconditional love that webby and scrooge show each other makes me so, so happy. I almost added a section with beakley, because she's an important part of webby's family as well and they need to have a conversation, but webby and scrooge needed their moment. i'll write it later.
this is a bit of trying to make sense of how the theme of found and chosen family fits in with webby’s new biological relation to scrooge and a bit closure. scrooge isn’t the best at having these important conversations, but webby’s pretty good at sticking up for herself when need be.
arianna and blaise are actually based on my OC versions of webby’s parents i made a long, long time ago! arianna was a shush-turned-fowl agent, and blaise was a fowl technician. my plan for them was that they were working for fowl (which was, at the time, based on darkwing duck’s fowl) and eventually, they both cut ties and became freelance villains in st. canard and duckburg. the duck family would fight them, they’d recognize webby and beakley, and the truth would come out. the arianna and blaise mentioned here aren’t my old versions of them, but i wanted to pay tribute to that little picture webby had on her board of her parents. i figured they had to be someone, especially since the woman looked a lot like beakley. my headcanon is that they really were a librarian and an artist, and that beakley raised webby in their images as a tribute to the family she’d lost. also, it didn’t come up in the fic, but blaise is nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns!
when watching and rewatching the finale and watching gifs of it, something that struck me was how awestruck and euphoric scrooge acted when he found out. i think most of us focused on webby’s reaction, and beakley’s, but man, scrooge gets so quietly emotional and it means everything to me. this is basically a love letter to that quiet joy, scrooge and webby’s relationship, webby’s beautiful relationship with family, the finale, and ducktales as a whole. i love this goddamn show, and i’m going to miss it so much. see you, space cowboy.

What are we, then? - JJ Imagine
A/N: I fell hard into a new obsession: JJ Maybanks yes it is. So, I badly wanted to write something but had literally no ideas so I took this prompt list and made a friend choose 2 random numbers. They picked: 9. “we’re not just friends and you know it”
27. “what do you mean maybe? that was a yes or no question”
So yeah. Enjoy some angst.
Words: 2.249
Pairing: JJ x female!reader
Tumblr media
—Don’t you fucking dare walk away from me! —JJ shouted after her.
—Watch me, asshole. —she stopped her steps and half turned her body just to give him the middle finger. Her facial expression showed the rage she felt.
Angry outbursts were pretty common between them. They’d known each other since kindergarten, a couple of years before John B came to the picture. So, their relationship was stronger, deeper. They knew each other to the bones. The gang was used to their loud yet harmless fights. JJ was short-tempered, and so was she. At the end, the fact that they shouted their opinions at each other at the moment they felt it was healthier considering they always reconciled half an hour later.
But this time something was different. An event that had happened between them a few days earlier had changed it everything, and nothing would ever be the same. Such event was unknown by the others, and maybe that’s why they were all so confused.
The thing is, for the first time, neither of them were spitting their feelings out. And oh boy it did cause a lot of misunderstandings.
She and JJ decided to shelter from Agatha at John B’s place. It was no news JJ tried to avoid his house as much as possible. She always convinced her parents of letting her go with them as JJ was considered another son and spent a lot of time at hers, and they also wanted their daughter to be a good friend to John B after his dad went missing. Once her throat burned due to her shouting at John B to get his ass out of the ocean in the middle of a hurricane she gave up and waited for them to come back. Luckily JJ found a little sense within his logic and convinced John B of getting out of the water as the storm was way too heavy.
At the Chateau, they cooked some noodles and ate between anecdotes and candles due to the lack of power. Around 3 in the morning Agatha was still blowing, a few cans of beer empty were around the coffee table, she and JJ were sprawled on the sofa bed and John B asleep in his bedroom. The pair was listening to I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing from her phone as they heard the wind and thunder outside. They’d smoked a blunt and were then absorbed in the flame of the candle in front of them.
Her pupils were dilated and she couldn’t feel his eyes on her. Or at least that’s what he thought.
—Staring is rude dude… —She voiced out loud, but softly, in a sleepy state.
He let out a short laugh and then directed his sight to the candle. —You’re so mean to me.
Now it was her turn to laugh. —Yeah, so?
He gently pushed her arm and then let his head fall on her shoulder, his blonde locks tickling her skin. She rested her head on his and closed her eyes but a moment later he looked up and set his eyes on her face, more serious this time. Her eyes locked with his.
—What? —she said in a whisper.
But he was at a loss of words, which didn’t happen often. They just got in a trance where a lot of emotions were in each pair of eyes with a classic love song in the back. At a certain moment his gaze moved down to her lips and his breath stuck in his throat. JJ was never a shy one when it came to girls. His ego, not confidence, always led situations smoothly. But for the first time in his life, he had no clue what he was doing. It’s not like they hadn’t shared alone moments like this before, they always had. The amount of trust between them had no comparison. They were totally sincere with each other, since they’d met there was not a thing they didn’t know about each other.
JJ leaned in and stopped closing the distance just when there were 2 millimeters left to create contact. His blue orbits checked for permission with hers first. She didn’t move at all. He took that as a green light and collided his mouth with hers.
The kiss was soft, and meaningful. Yes, they had a couple of beers running through their veins, and yes also a little of weed into their systems yet they felt like time stopped. It was like the Universe was created for this and only this moment. They felt everything around them vanished. It felt right, just like when you fit the last piece of the puzzle.
The sound of a lightning striking near their location pulled them apart. They shared one more look though this one was loaded with a bit of embarrassment. The moment got kinda awkward and they dealt with it by pretending what happened did not actually happen. She turned around and he cuddled her like they always did.
The next morning John B woke up first, walking from his bedroom to the porch, catching the pair of friends peacefully sleeping in each other’s arms. He ruffled JJ’s hair asking him if he’d been outside yet only earning a groan as a response. Hours later she woke up and went home without talking to her best friend about the intimate moment they’d shared.
A few days later they threw the kegger, there happened strike one. JJ eventually disappeared with a smokin’ hot tourist, which did not go unnoticed by her. She’d seen JJ go from a clumsy kiddo to the sex symbol boy, she’d been there through the beginning to the end of his puberty, she knew better than even bother by his multiple random hookups. Still, after the intense look he had given her before kissing her had left her somewhat overwhelmed. And the fact that they had shared such a passionate moment together days ago made her actually uncomfortable at witnessing JJ get it with some other girl. This was brand new for her, literally she had never been jealous of the blonde. Oh and, one more time, feelings were bottled up.
Strike two took place at The Wreck when the group was in for a fast food meal. They’d gone inside towards their usual table while Kie went to the kitchen. The boys were just sitting when she was approached by Tom, a pogue, with a “Hey, how have you been?” to which she replied with a genuine smile. The boy had had a crush on her since middle school. He was kinda cute, light brown hair, green eyes, a couple of freckles under his eyes and on his nose. And he was nice, a good guy really. Her mom always wanted them to date but she didn’t find the chemistry reciprocated. And JJ had secretly been relieved by that. Not because he wanted her romantically or anything like that but because he dreaded the time she’d got a boyfriend and stopped hanging out with him. Tom asked her to go surfing with him the next day and she agreed, partly because she hadn’t surfed in weeks, and partly because she had bottled her jealousy at the kegger and kind of wanted to hit it back to JJ, as she was completely aware of how JJ felt towards Tom. Through the corner of her eye she caught JJ’s irritable gesture when she accepted the invitation.
A week after the secret kiss, the gang was at John B’s hanging out. By now, the tension between the two was clear to everyone, and their friends knew an explosion was coming soon. They weren’t teasing the hell out of each other as they usually did. They weren’t sitting next to each other in the boat as they usually did. And they also were hitting each other every chance they got, like when she had smacked his head from behind in the afternoon that same day when they were at the beach and the blonde was flirting with a girl, ruining their moment. Or when she was going to the fridge to seek for a beer can and he was coming out of it and shove his elbow into her arm, earning a gasp and a scowl.
—Yo! What is your problem dude? —her voice denoted she was at the edge which only pleased the blonde even more making him smile.
Kie and John B shared a look as Pope sighed resignedly foreseeing what was coming.
—Maybe the fact that you ruined my moment today.
She scoffed and walked past him rolling her eyes. —Yeah, sure. Cause you have so much trouble slutting around with everything that walks.
—Uhhh, excuse me. Do you have a problem with it?
Their friends sighed and walked out to the porch in order to give them space and to be honest, they were not in the mood to witness another of their fights so they rather stargaze outside while the two sorted it out.
—Oh no, be my guest bro. I’m just sayin’ why do you call me out on “ruining your moment” when you can have “your moments” whenever you want.
He smiled sarcastically and looked down at the floor before lifting up his gaze to her. —You’ve been a pain in the ass the whole week, you are the one with a problem obviously.
—I am not. I’ve been the pain in the ass? Are you sure? Cause someone else comes to my mind. —she rolled her eyes and exhaled loudly as she let herself fall on the couch and took a sip of her drink.
—You’re unbelievable.—Did you mean it?
He looked at her in confusion. —What?
—You know what. Did you mean it?
He shrugged his shoulders and looked down to hide the light blush of his cheeks. —Maybe.
Strike three, you’re out.
—Maybe? What do you mean maybe? That was a yes or no question.
—I-I don’t know —his hand went to grab his hair. —Maybe.
—Forget it. —she stood up and he freaked out.
—What? Are you in your period or something?
That’s when she stormed off the Chateau fuming.
The sound of the slammed door got the other three’s attention, turning their heads to look at the person walking away.
—Don’t you fucking dare walk away from me! —JJ shouted after her.
—Watch me, asshole. —she stopped her steps and half turned her body just to give him the middle finger. Her facial expression showed the rage she felt.
After a few minutes John B, Pope and Kiara all got up and went inside to find JJ standing in the middle of the room with a hand grabbing his hair and with the other holding a beer, looking down at an invisible point on the floor.
—What did you do? —Kie asked him with furrowed eyebrows.
JJ grimaced and sighed. —I might have said the period line… —Kie let her head fall backwards and took a deep breath. —Of course you did…
—That’s just a dick move. Anyway, what is going on between you two? You’ve been annoying all week. —John B voiced.
But he only closed his eyes and breathed out heavily.
Hours later the surfer skated all the way to her house. He threw some rocks at her window to wake her but after a few minutes nothing happened, then he noticed a shadow on the roof, next to one of the windows of the big house. He climbed up and jumped from the tree to the roof, a few feet away from her. She was hugging her knees and staring right ahead with her chin resting on her arms. There were no signs of remaining anger, just plain tiredness, and a touch of sadness. He caught that in her eyes, he knew her so well, and it made his heart sunk to know he had caused it. He cleared his throat and dried his palms on his shorts. He felt nervous and it caused his hands to sweat.
—I’m sorry.
She blinked slowly but kept her gaze set ahead. He felt ashamed by his behaviour.
—We’re not just friends and you know it. —now he did get her attention.
She just smiled and rolled her eyes changing her pose, resting her palms on the roof and leaning her core weight on them.
—What are we exactly, then..? —she was teasing him and he smiled sweetly. He nudged her and they both laughed. A second later he looked down and bit his lip deep in thought. She turned her head to look at him.
—You’re everything to me. —he said quietly, still not daring to lift his sight. —I never want to lose you. —he said with an expression of pain on his beautiful face. She furrowed her brows and hugged him. —You never will, idiot. Have I ever given up on you? —she whispered near his cheek due to the hug. His eyes filled with forbidden tears. He nodded no with his head as he didn't trust his voice. Her smile grew wider and she kissed his cheek softly. —See? I’m always there with you. Every day, every week, every year. You’re not getting rid of me that easily. —he half laughed half sobbed and immediately cleaned the tears forcefully with the back of his hand. She held him tighter and he put his head on her.
—So, I guess the answer is yes, I meant it.

I'd LOVE to read 14. and 25. with Leo being stressed because the family is coming and he really wants to have a dessert or something. And Logan, being dramatic as he is, the next morning he kinda wants to shock Leo, or sth like that. I'm sure you'd come up with something amazing!
Prompt 14: “Darling, I love you and all, but please step out of the kitchen”
Prompt 25: “We need to talk about what happened last night”
The first official O’Knutzy fic! God I love Leo Knut so much. Credit for these characters goes to the one and only @lumosinlove!
“Ow, fuck!” Leo dropped his knife and immediately stuck his thumb in his mouth.
The vacuum shut off in their bedroom. “Peanut, you okay?”
“I’m fine, Fish, just a little cut!” Despite his reassurance, Finn poked his head around the corner a moment later and frowned.
“You’re still in here?”
“Yeah, we’ve only got—” Leo glanced up at the clock and felt his stomach plummet. “Shit, three hours? We’ve got three hours until your parents get here and I don’t even have dessert done.”
“Babe, you’ve been in the kitchen all day,” Finn said as he propped his chin on Leo’s shoulder and kissed behind his ear.
“That’s not true, I went to Target with Logan earlier.” Leo leaned back into his chest and exhaled slowly through his nose. “That isn’t helping my case at all, is it?”
“Not really. Lo! Emergency meeting in the kitchen!”
There was a rustle and a muffled curse from the living room before Logan appeared, hopping on one foot. “Desolé, I stubbed my toe. Emergency meeting?”
“It’s not an emergency,” Leo protested. “I have to get this done.”
“We have to get this done,” Logan corrected, sliding across the tile into Leo’s arms. “This is a team effort.”
“Communicate to score!” Finn laughed as both of them smacked him on the bicep in unison.
“Neither of you can cook,” Leo said. “If you want to help, you can get me a bandaid and finish cleaning.”
“Nope, we’re helping.” Logan stood on his toes to press a loud kiss to Leo’s forehead and grinned. “Then we’ll finish even faster and have time for a nap.”
They spent the next hour bumping elbows in the kitchen while Logan and Finn mixed cookie dough and Leo finished slicing tomatoes for the soup. He sported a brand-new Spiderman bandaid—sealed with two kisses, of course—and did his best to avoid the massive amounts of flour that puffed up from the bowl.
“Did you add both the eggs?” he asked. There was a moment of quiet, then a light cracking noise.
“…yes.”
“Good, they’d be puddles without it.” Leo added the tomatoes and tried to hide his smile. “Burned puddles of charcoal. I’m so glad you two know how to bake and don’t need any reminders at all.”
The first batch of cookies went into the oven with an hour and a half to spare and Leo’s stress drained away. He pressed his forehead into Finn’s collarbones with a happy sigh; his eyelids were growing heavier by the second. “Alright, naptime,” Finn said, patting the back of his head. “C’mon, Knutty.”
“I have to make sure the cookies don’t burn.” Leo stifled a yawn and snuggled closer.
“You’ve done so much today,” Logan said as he hugged him from behind and tugged him toward the door. “Darling, I love you and all, but please step out of the kitchen.”
Using ‘darling’ was a cheater’s move, but it did the trick. Leo stretched out on the couch, tangling his legs with Finn’s as Logan set three different timers for the food. The smell of warm vanilla was the last thing he registered before falling asleep.
-----------------------------
Leo woke up the next morning to the scent of sugar and an empty bed. He frowned into his pillow; he was the early riser of the three, and he knew for a fact Finn had stayed up late reading after their parents went home. Is that…pancakes? Leo sniffed the air and sat up, scrunching his nose against the daylight from the window. “Fish? Lo?”
“In here!” Two voices called.
Leo padded out of the bedroom and stretched his arms over his head. “Where did you go?”
“The kitchen,” Finn said over a loud sizzling noise.
“No, I mean for breakfast. Something smells really good…wait, what?” Finn and Logan stood at the counter in their pajamas with a mess of bowls around them and no less than three pans on the stove. “You’re cooking.”
“Yeah!” Finn pecked him lightly on the lips and turned back to the pancakes.
“You’re cooking breakfast.”
“Mmhmm.” Logan prodded the bacon and squinted at it. “I think these are done.”
“Smells done.” Leo peered over their shoulders. “Why are you cooking breakfast?”
Finn tapped his hand with his pancake spatula and spun around with a serious expression. “We need to talk about what happened last night.”
Leo raised his eyebrows. “We do? I thought it went well.”
“You were stressed and we didn’t really notice until, like, three hours before a bunch of people came over.” Finn wrapped one arm around Leo’s waist and kissed his cheek. “My mom sent me a ton of texts this morning about how good dinner was, by the way.”
“We wanted to do something special for you as a thank-you,” Logan said as he curled into Leo’s other side, flipping the bacon onto a plate. “Also, we’re very, very sorry for leaving you alone in the kitchen instead of helping.”
“I love you both so much, but it’s really not a problem,” Leo said, soaking in their warmth. “I was only stressed because of the parents.”
“Still.” Finn knocked their hips together, and Logan made a low ‘oof’ noise on his other side. “Next time, family dinner is going to be a threesome thing.” Leo cocked an eyebrow at him and his face reddened. “Not like—fuck, I meant like an all-three-of-us-are-involved event, not a threesome threesome.”
“No, by all means, keep talking,” Leo laughed. “This is getting better and better.”
“Shut up and eat your pancakes, Nutter Butter.”

[First Chapter] [Previous Chapter] [Next Chapter]
Jonas cried over Martha’s body promising that he would set everything right. He looked up hearing the explosion and then ran down into the basement to stay safe.
The older Jonas shot up in bed breathing hard from his nightmare. He must have fallen asleep in his clothes. He turned to look at the letter labeled Jonas on it. He opened it to read,
‘Dear Jonas, you promised to make everything right again. I want you to know that you will do that. You must never lose hope that there is a way out of this maze. A way to save me and you...But we will have to make sacrifices… do unimaginable things...to untie the knot at the end. Each fate in this knot is linked to the next. A thread, blood red, that connects all our actions. In light and in shadow. But the apocalypse must take place. You must let her die, so I can live. We have to let some things go before they find their way back to us. We are perfect for eachother. Never believe anything else.’
Martha cried over Jonas’ dead body clutching Annalise’s necklace in her bloodied hands. She stood and walked away from him still shaking from the shock she just received. Annalise walked out from the door and ran to Martha. She held the girl close in her arms and started to cry for her. Her fingers intertwined within Martha’s hair. Yet, Martha felt close to nothing. This is what she had always wanted, so why does it still feel wrong.
The short haired Martha looked up at the swirling God Particle in their world knowing what must be done now. Her two older selves watched it twist and turn just like their hearts. Their eyes crying from the knowledge each of them had. Mary smiled proudly at her work. She had spent years getting back to this point. Yet, her eyes still cried knowing just as soon as she was going to experience the greatest ecstasy, she was going to experience the pits of despair. Unknowing of her own fate that was just close to happening.
Silija took her rifle and shoved Martha into a cage. She locked the girl in, ignoring her cries of confusion. Adam watched on with a sigh.
The older Jonas took the letter and burned it after reading. He felt disgusted at what she was trying to imply, let Annalise die so that Martha could live as if he could possibly do that. As if he could let that happen.
Annalise and Martha walked back to Martha’s home. It was the day of the apocalypse. As they got inside, Martha started to panic about how dirty and covered with his blood she was.
Annalise took hold of her and said, “Hey, hey… shhhh… It’s okay.” She carefully walked the girl to the sink and washed her up. Her hands were gentle, yet dexterous at getting off the blood. After cleaning her hands and face, Annalise heard someone stirring upstairs so she quickly helped Martha undress and shoved the blooded clothes in the trash.
Magnus hurried downstairs after hearing the door open and close. “Martha,” he breathed relieved at his sister being back home safe. He looked between Annalise and Martha asking, “Where were you? Mom cried all night long.” Noticing that Martha wasn’t her normal self, he turned to Annalise and asked, “Is she okay?”
Annalise shook her head as Martha tried to wipe her tears away. She turned to look at her brother.
“Hey,” He spoke softly. He opened his arms to her which were gladly taken by Martha. He held his sister and asked, “What happened?”
Martha sobbed into Magnus for a second. She held him tighter than she had ever held her brother before. “Bartosz was right,” she whispered. She shook her head and said, “What he said in the woods… about the end of the world.” She started to panic. “The nuclear power plant… Today. Bartosz’s father is trying to cover up an accident. The containers… The world is going to end today.”
Magnus looked at her then to Annalise, who just shrugged and shook her head acting as if she didn’t know anything…
While in truth, she did. Annalise knew exactly what Martha was talking about and it was her job to also get to Bartosz so that way they could all go fix this mess. At least, that’s what Eve told her and her older self told her. There was no reason not to trust them.
Meanwhile in 1986, a younger Mary smiled with a young Noah. She turned to him and said, “We did it! We found the way back! We can get Bartosz and go back home.”
Magnus shook her head at her, “Have you gone crazy? When did you last sleep?” When she tried to yell at him, he shook his head and said, “I haven’t got time for your psycho crap. You can handle this, right Anna?”
Annalise nodded. She shook her head at Martha, “I’m sorry.”
Short haired Martha looked down at Annalise’s necklace and started to cry. She trembled as her fingers traced the tree of life pattern.
“They had to die,” The older Martha explained, “It’s all wrong.” They stood in the old Eris Lux meeting area. “I know what you’re feeling. But you’ll learn to let the feeling go. Everything will run its course. Just as fate determined our world and his.”
In the other world, Martha tried to escape her cage. When Adam appeared to her, she screamed, “why did you lock me up? You promised me there would be a way to change everything.” She started to cry, “So the apocalypse won’t happen. You lied to me, just like my older self lied to me!”
Adam looked down at the sphere in his hands. He spoke, “Sic Mundus. Old Tannhaus. He firmly believed he was creating a paradise where we’d all be free of destiny, and free of our pain. A world outside your world and my world. But I have finally realized what this paradise really is. Unending darkness, in which nothing exists. But for that...the apocalypse must happen. In my world...and in yours.” He turned and walked away from her.
“Jonas,” she roared, “Jonas! Let me out!”
There was only six hours before the apocalypse left and Aleksander was speaking to Obendorf about the containers. He had seen Annalise leave earlier that morning so he knew it would be safe to speak about it.
“Dad,” Bartosz said, walking into the room and surprising Aleksander, “Is everything okay?”
Aleksander nodded, but sadly said, “I know I said I’d stay home today...But something important came up. I’m sorry.”
Bartosz shrugged and grumbled to his dad, “It’s alright”
His father turned and said, “I have to tell you something. Someone is blackmailing me.”
Bartosz’s face turned into confusion, “What?”
Aleksander turned and showed his son, “With this. Something that happened a long time ago. Sometimes we make decisions in our lives that we can never undo.” He sighed and continued, “My name is not Aleksander. It is Boris. Boris Niewald. But it was an accident… You must believe me. I’m not a murderer.”
Bartosz shook his head and asked, “What about Mom? Did Mom know about this?”
“Your mother is the best thing that ever happened in my life,” said the man, “she saved me from all that and I never told her the truth.” He looked at his son, “Bartosz, I’m sorry.”
Bartosz threw the newspaper down and walked away from his father.
Across town, Charlotte walked to Ulrich’s house with the file to let him know what they found on the investigation for Mads resulting in Ulrich leaving quickly and Hannah realizing it was her the entire time.
Annalise sat with Matha. She tried to convince the girl to take a nap, but Martha felt too wired for that.
The girl walked over to her mirror to look at herself. “I hate this,” she sneered at herself. She grabbed the scissors from her things and started to cut.
“Hey,” Annalise said. She walked over to the girl and stopped her, “Let me do that for you. You are going to mess it up.”
“I don’t care,” Martha mumbled, but conceded giving the scissors to Annalise anyway.
Annalise smiled and giggled, “Come on. Let’s cut off all the things weighing you down.”
Martha watched as everything happened through the mirror. She just wanted everything fixed and over with.
Katharina slept on Mikkel’s bed calmly. She awoke to Martha standing over her, “You scared me. Where were you? Did you cut your hair? What happened?” She looked over towards Annalise who stood awkwardly behind her daughter. She looked back to see Martha nearly in tears.
Martha spoke, “Do you believe in fate?”
“I don’t know,” Katharina admitted watching Annalise walk out to give them some space. She spoke again, “No. I believe that we take our lives into our own hands. That we decide which road we take.”
Eve stared at the older Bartosz with a sigh. She spoke to him motioning towards the hideout and to his child Jonah. Her heart sunk, but she knew this was what was needing to happen. Everything was so so close. She needed everything to continue just as it had before. She knew what this would cause though. She knew what this part would lead. She needed it to happen. This was one of the finally domino effects needed for her plan to see him again.
Katharina shook her head and said, “I’m sure I’m the last person you want to talk to, but...If you do...I’m here.” She took her daughter's hand and held it. The woman spoke again, “Your dad and I… A lot of things maybe different now, but that’s not necessarily bad.”
Martha started to cry. She shook her head and said, “No, I’m sure it’s not.” She held her mother closely. She let go after a moment and explained, “I promised I was going to do something.” Then she walked out.
In the other world, Claudia stared at a picture of the blond boy who had started this all. Her breathing was all that could be heard in the small bunker. She sighed and looked down to open one of the journals letting her know what she was supposed to do as well. It spelled out where the God Particle was and to follow the signals to it. She found herself going to the area in her yellow radiation suit. Inside, she saw only a bright white light. Her heart pounded as she reached out to it.
“Stop,” A man called to her. Claudia turned to see Jonas.
She sighed in relief and said, “Jonas…” She looked surprised. Her voice shook as she spoke again, “You’re alive.”
Back in Eve’s world, the short haired, scarred Martha wrote Jonas a letter. She knew all of it to be absolutely true. She hated to admit it to herself, but she was doing all of this for her own Annalise as well. Something for them to be together just as Mary and Eve were. To raise this child together. She sighed and spoke, “I murdered him. Why is he still alive?”
Mary drew a diagram for the young Martha, “There is a switch point in the loop of time. The moment that causes things to run in one direction or the other. You bring him into your world, or you don’t. A line that starts at one point, then loops onto itself once more. Two possible ways on the outer edge of the line or on the inner edge of the line… yet it is the same line. Two overlapping realities happen in a single moment.” She spoke quieter, more in reflection, “In one, she goes with you… in another she’s kidnapped and trapped until she figures out the puzzle of this.” She shook her head and spoke louder again, “One, he dies...on the other road, he doesn’t.” She pointed and said, “Both realities continue from the point of the sphere’s activation, then collide on itself if it’s in the same reality. Both of your worlds continue from that point and repeat in an endless loop. One triggers the other one to happen. You two are locked in Quantum entanglement.”
Eve interrupted and spoke, “Adam has tried to sever it for 33 years. So that the thing growing inside of you will never be born.”
Mary spoke up again, “But it is impossible now. Your worlds… they can never be disconnected.”
The older Martha took the letter and folded it up to be put into the envelope as Ever spoke, “Every step Jonas takes is guided by us. He cannot escape his fate.”
In Jonas’ world, Claudia stared at the blond and asked, “What is this?”
Jonas spoke while looking at the glowing white orb flowing suspended in the air, “That is what was left over after the catastrophe.”
Claudia breathed heavily and asked, “The God Particle… and this here? What is this?” She pointed to the equipment not too far from them.
Jonas looked at her confused and explained, “I’ve seen where all this goes.” He pointed towards the equipment, “in the future. There is no way back now. The cave was destroyed. There’s nothing there anymore. The passage is completely gone. But this here… If I find out how it works, I’ll be able to go back. Then I can save them. Martha, Mikkel, and Annalise. I can save all of them.” He stared at her. She seemed off. She didn’t seem to support any of this. He spoke to her and asked, “How is it that you found me?” He waited for a moment then asked in a slightly different way, “How did you know I would be here?”
“The apparatus,” Claudia explained, “The matter it needs.”
“The apparatus,” Jonas yelled, “You still have it?! Where is it?”
Claudia reluctantly showed him to where she was keeping the machine. She knew if she didn’t he would only become more aggressive. She watched as he rushed towards it. As he toggled with some of the switches, she spoke, “It doesn’t work. Maybe this is how it had to happen first. For all the things to change for next time.” As he slowly turned towards her, she explained, “The substance in the device. You and I brought it into the passage again. The variables in the equation were changed. There’s a chance it might work next try.”
Jonas yelled, “I can’t wait 33 years to try!” He growled as he walked towards her, “I’m supposed to just hope this won’t happen again? Maybe next time I’m on the other side of the bunker door?!” He sneered, “She didn’t say anything… Your older self. She knew Annalise was going to die. That Martha was also going to die. How they would die.” Tears dripped down his dirty sweaty face, “Why should I trust you now?”
Claudia felt a pain in her chest hearing about Annalise. Yet she pressed on, “The material in the plant. I know what it is. I can assist you. I can help you save them. To save all of them.”
In Eve’s world, there was only three hours left before the apocalypse. Martha stormed to Bartosz’s house with Annalise behind her. She screamed, “BARTOSZ!”
He very quickly went to the glass door as if by instinct. He opened it for her and asked, “Martha?” He looked at her then saw Annalise not far behind her. He bit his lip hoping this wasn’t going to affect them then turned back towards Martha to listen to what she had to say.
“Can we come in,” the short haired girl asked him. She stared up at him pleadingly. It was the least he could do now right? After stealing the girl she loved, the least he could do was let her inside.
“Eh,” Bartosz shifted uneasily. He swallowed and nodded, “Yeah. Come on in.” He moved out of the way for the two girls to rush in.
Martha shakingly explained, “33 years ago there was an accident at the plant. Somehow the accident caused some strange matter to form… and your father helped cover everything up.” She started to breathe heavily. Her eyes flickered between Annalise and him, “And everything we heard in the caves. It’s all the same… The substance… It starts the end. Today. We have to talk to him.”
“Starts what end,” Bartosz spoke calmly.
Martha’s voice shook as she said, “The apocalypse.”
Ulrich stared at Mads body in disbelief. There was no way any of this was happening. He’s heart raced as he realized it had to be. He unlocked the jail cell and stared at Helge. He lifted him up and asked, “The Kid in the bunker. You said it was you who killed him. But you didn’t mean him. You meant Mads. The boy in the bunker looks just like Mads. How did you do it?”
Helge shook and said, “They...They both said that I must do it.”
Ulrich growled, “Who? Do what?”
Helge swallowed and explained, “To help send him to the future. To fill the gaps.”
Ulrich let go of him and took a step back in disbelief. He took the pennies out of his pocket and showed it to the man, “The pennies… What does this mean?”
Helge looked up and said, “I must stop him.”
“Stop who? Who will you stop?”
Helge swallowed and spoke softly, “You.”
Ulrich pulled back and looked down before looking out the door. He said, “You can go now.”
Helge hurried out to go on his own mission to stop the man.
“And this Jonas guy,” Bartosz asked, “He’s dead now? And you killed him there. Well it’s not you… It’s...another you?” He looked at her completely confused. This sounded a lot like how Annalise was trying to describe being in two places at once just the other night. He ran his fingers through his long hair thinking about everything.
Martha nodded and explained, “I was there. In the future. There’s nothing left.” She shook her head. “Nothing.” She sighed and stated, “It all has to do with your father. He can’t be allowed to open those containers.” Watching his thumbs rub together and him look down then back at Annalise, Martha knew he was deep in thought. “Bartosz,” she tried to reach out to his mind to pull him back to her. She pleaded with him, “Please.”
Bartosz reached for his phone and called his father. He didn’t get an answer due to his father looking at all of the sins of his past and what they lead to. Aleksander called Charlotte now knowing what he must do to make amends.
The Unknown looked up at the sphere. He turned it on and watched it descend. The youngest walked in first, then the oldest. The middle one took out the ball and held it in his hand.
In Adam’s world, Silja let Martha out of her cage and at gunpoint led her to where Adam wanted her to go. She explained that all she was here to do was to help fill the gaps for everyone so that everyone could reach salvation.
Adam stared at the swirling mass. He spoke to himself mostly but turned to see the ghost of Annalise standing there with him, “We have waited a long time for this moment.” He turned towards Magnus and Franziska and told them, “you know what to do.” He nodded to them to leave him alone with the ghost of the girl he loved.
Magnus and Franziska swallowed. They shifted and took hold of each other’s hands not sure if they were really ready for the other world yet and to see their long dead best friends.
In Eve’s world, Magnus and Franziska sat at the edge of the pond unknowing of the apocalypse about to hit them in just one hour.
Franziska turned to him and signed, “What do you think it means? The birds? The light? The boy in the bunker?”
Magnus shrugged a bit then signed back while mouthing, “Martha has lost it. She thinks the apocalypse will happen today.”
Franziska shook her head at him. She could tell without words that he was nervous. She smiled a bit to comfort him and slid her hand into his. She signed to him and mouthed, “If we die today, then at least we are together.”
Magnus smiled and signed back, “Together.” He leaned close to her so that they could kiss all his troubles away.
Bartosz and Annalise rode their bikes down to the powerplant. Martha sat behind Bartosz looking up at the boy. They tried to ride as quickly as possible to stop the canisters from being opened by Charlotte and Aleksander.
Helge waddled through the woods muttering to himself the sounds of the clock in his mind. He walked toward the cave knowing exactly what he was going to try to do.
Ulrich called Charlotte trying to get a hold of her to let him know of what was going on as he tried to follow the man.
Adam’s world Magnus and Franziska stood in the road and stared at the group on the bikes. Bartosz and Martha stopped smoothly while Annalise crashed Martha’s bike trying to avoid them.
Martha stood up and walked towards them, “Who are you?”
Magnus chuckled, “You can’t take a few guesses?”
Annalise groaned on the ground causing Bartosz to run towards her side, “Anna!” He looked over her and caressed her face, “It’s okay. You’re okay. Where does it hurt?”
Annalise reached her hand down towards her side. She groaned as he touched it, “Ow...Ow. Ow.” Tears welled up in her eyes.
Mary screamed as she walked into her family’s part of the hideout. There her older Bartosz, her husband, held their dead baby in his arms crying. He looked at her pleadingly, “Please, Annalise. Forgive me.”
Mary screamed at him, “What did you do?!”
“I had no other choice, Annalise please.”
Martha stared at the man and whispered, “Magnus?” She gasped as he stared at him, “You’re from the future.”
Magnus nodded, “But not from yours. They lied to you. Your older selves. They want the apocalypse to happen. They’re the ones responsible for it happening in the first place. But there is a way to change everything.”
Annalise struggled out, “Liar! You’re just working for Adam.”
Bartosz cooed at her, “Shhhhh. Anna… Please. You’re hurt. You are only going to keep hurting yourself. Shhhh.”
The older Bartosz looked sadly at his wife, “Please don’t look at me like that. She said I had to or else he’d die anyway.”
Mary rushed at him and started to hit him, “Liar! She would never do this to me.. MARTHA WOULD NEVER!” She stole her dead Jonah from him. She cried over his small body.
Franziska looked from the couple on the side of the road then looked at Martha and said, “But you have to choose our world and trust in him. Jonas.”
Bartosz started to question them as well. Annalise could see it on his face as Martha asked, “Jonas? He’s alive?”
“In our world,” Franziska nodded, “And he knows what the origin is.”
Mary trembled as she realized, no. Eve could, and Eve would. She started to realize everything was just Eve’s fault. She had been using her just as she used Jonas, but to what end. Mary sneered at him and said, “Of course in the end you would choose her. I hope you rot in the hell you both made.” She walked away from him to go to Eve’s office.
Franziska continued, “But before that, you must save Jonas from the apocalypse in his world and bring him into your world.”
Bartosz stood up and growled, “All of you are crazy, you know that?!”
Magnus stepped towards the girl and said, “You can’t stop what’s happening now, but...if you come with us, you can prevent it. Another time.” He took out the orb and held it towards Martha.
Bartosz helped Annalise up and asked, “What is that?”
Martha stared into her other worldly brother’s eyes. She panted as she tried to figure out what to do. What was the best step. Who should she trust? What should she do?
Bartosz’s voice cut through the noise in Martha’s head, “Martha what’s going on here?”
Martha walked towards them and turned towards her two closest friends, “you have to come with us.”
“Come with you where,” Bartosz asked.
Franziska spoke up as Magnus got the orb ready, “They aren’t one of us. They work for the others. She will save them.” Franziska nodded towards Annalise.
Martha looked between the two groups unsure of who to go with or who to trust. She looked at her friends and whispered, “I’m sorry.” She disappeared in a cloud of ashes and ember.
“It’s time,” Eve spoke to her group, “Adam has moved each of his tokens into position. It is time that we do the same.”
Mary burst into the room angry with her Bartosz trailing behind her, “You MONSTER! You LIED TO ME.” She growled and launched herself at Eve.
Eve laughed as everyone else left the room to leave them alone. She shook her head, “I did no such thing. This was all just a test for you, don’t you see that?”
Mary screamed, “You killed my son!? After everything I had done for you! I made your damn machine for you! I traumatised myself for you. I worked years and years for you. Blindly trusting you. You separated me from Bartosz for years to motivate me to make the machine work! I helped convince someone I was an angel with the son you had my husband have after me so that we could have your dad’s brother killed! Who even does that?! Why me?!”
Eve sighed, again, she chose Jonas in the end just like every cycle. Annalise chose Bartosz. As her heart slowly broke, she spoke, “I am so sorry you see it that way, but I want to hear it from you. Say what you are truly feeling deep inside your heart. Tell me.”
The younger Eve took over speaking to the rest of the group, “This knot has given us all life and we are its keepers. In both worlds. He’ll never be able to untie this knot. In all these years, he’s never understood how everything is connected. How it all ends and begins. Not only in our world, but in his as well. We are destiny. We raise the walls of this labyrinth. Each of us shapes the paths and extend their hand. Bartosz, you must help save yourself and Annalise to save our lives. Claudia, you must guide yourself to be our eyes in the other world. Egon, you must create your past to preserve the family tree. Noah, you must bring love and friendship... To start everything anew. Every darkness is followed by light. With every death comes life.” The younger Eve opened the portal for them.
In Adam’s world, Martha pleaded with the scarred man, “You brought me into your world. You promised me we could change this. Why are you doing this?” She struggled against her chains crying. She sobbed and asked him, “Where are the others? Where did you send them?”
Adam’s raspy voice grated in the air, “They are all fulfilling their destinies. Magnus and Franziska. Charlotte and Elisabeth. Silja and Agnes. They’re sustaining the cycle’s life. So that you and I exist here, now.”
“What are you saying,” She shook her head in confusion.
Adam looked at the ghost of Annalise dancing around them and looked back at her, “This is the end we’ve reached. What’s growing inside you, the origin, must die. But it can’t be killed by normal means. It’s born of both worlds and so the energy of both worlds is necessary to destory it. The apocalypse in my world...and the apocalypse in your world. This here is the end. A machine that crosses not only time, but space as well. Which then focuses the energy of both apocalypses on one concentrated point. This spot. Your son only exists because the matter exists. Now, through it, he will die, and all of us with him. None of this will exist anymore. Both worlds will erase one another. Absolute annihilation.”
Martha shook her head. She looked at him with sorrow for him, “You’ve gone insane.”
Adam slowly walked towards her, “There is no hope. No salvation. No paradise.” He took Annalise’s necklace from her, “We were wrong. You and I. In your world, and in mine.” He walked away from her.
“Jonas,” She called out to him, “JONAS! Jonas, please don’t do it. Jonas.”
Adam closed the door to prevent him from still hearing her call his old name. A name he had not associated with himself in a long time. A name when he was still Annalise’s. As she cried, he sighed knowing what he had to do. He turned it on and watched her struggle.
The beginning is the end and the end is the beginning. Every connection in one world must also be closed in the other world. Everything is interconnected. In the light and in shadow.
Slowly, all of Eve’s foot soldiers reached where they were to go. Older Noah to Sylvie and Elizabeth, Helge and Egon back to the past, Claudia to her other self, and Older Bartosz to Annalise and his younger self. Ulrich going into the past to stop Mads from dying.  Older Jonas creating the machine while young Eve went to place the note. The Unknown going to help create the end.
Mary screamed, “ADAM WAS RIGHT. There is no salvation! You are the monster and this should end. All of this should end. There is no paradise! There is only pain!”
Just as a gunshot rang out deep in the cavern walls, The Unknown all yelled out desperately, “MOM!”

All you wanted to do was change into comfy sweats, pour a heavy glass of wine, and forget about the awful week you had at work. But of course, there had to be something else to make this day even worse. When you were about 5 minutes away from your apartment it started down pouring. You cursed to yourself and picked up the pace.
Once you were in the comfort of your building, you let out a sigh of relief and made the trek up to your apartment. When you stepped out of the elevator you were met with a smiling face, one that normally would melt all of your worries away, but today, it only helped a little. You forced a smile back when his smile turned into a concerned frown.
"What happened to you?" He asked, stopping in front of you.
"I got caught in the rain on the way back from work."
He nodded and grabbed the bags out of your hands so you could unlock your door.
"Thanks, Tyson." You said with a small smile, hoping he would leave you be now. Normally you would welcome his company, but you really wanted that glass of wine and quiet night in by yourself. But it wasn't looking like that was the case when he strolled over to your fridge making himself at home. But that didn't stop you from wandering down the hall and taking a warm shower. Maybe then he would get the hint?
Nope. When you walked back out to the living room he was cozied up on the couch. A little bit of your annoyance dissipated when you saw the two wine glasses on the coffee table in front of him. So you grabbed one and plopped back into the couch.
"Rough week?" He asked, grabbing the other glass.
"You have no idea."
"I'm sorry, you wanna talk about it?"
"Not really.…" you sighed, "no game tonight?"
"Nah, we're leaving for a road trip tomorrow."
"Ohh nice, where to?"
"We're going to Florida."
"Ugh, I'm so jealous. I would love some nice weather right now."
Tyson chuckled, "yeah it might do you some good. You're looking a little pasty."
You rolled your eyes and pushed him playfully. "I meant mentally, but thank you for that."
"I know, I'm just messing…" he said patting your thigh "…are you sure you're okay?"
You sighed, "yeah, I just had an awful week at work, and my family has been harping on me a lot lately and I'm just over it all."
"I'm sorry, Y/n/N, what's going on at work?"
"My coworkers are just the worst. We had a huge project due this week and it seemed like I was the only one doing anything. And of course they got all of the credit. But it's fine, things should be better next week."
"What about your family?"
"Where do I even start…lately it's just been about me not having a boyfriend. I just don’t understand the fascination with my love life. My cousin is getting married soon and they really want me to bring someone…but like who cares? I'm 23, I don't see the urgency. But I also don't want to get shit for it the whole weekend. I don't know, whatever, it'll be fine, I'm just annoyed right now."
"When is the wedding?"
"A few weeks from now…why?"
"Is it the All Star break?"
"Ummmm…." you said while checking the dates "yes…why?!"
"I could be your date if you wanted…"
"No, Tyson, I can't ask you to do that."
"You're not asking, I'm offering."
"I don't know, Tys…"
"Come on, you'll have good company, you won't have to hear about how single you are…"
"Wait, you want to go as my boyfriend?"
"Well I don't think going as your friend would help…"
"You'd really do that?"
"Yes! I want to."
"Alright.…I don't know if it'll work, I'm not sure my family will even believe me."
"Oh, we can make it believable."
You eyed Tyson suspiciously but then gave in. "Okay…alright. I owe you big time."
"Let's just see how the weekend goes…" Tyson said with a smirk.
The rest of the night was spent watching New Girl. Tyson kept refilling your glass and you ended up pretty tipsy. Before Tyson left he helped you into bed and locked up your apartment on the way out.
~~~~~
The next morning, you woke up with a headache, cursing yourself for getting wine drunk. You loved being wine drunk in the moment but hated the hangover. You also cursed yourself at the thought of the little plan you and Tyson had come up with the night before. It's not that you weren't excited to spend an entire weekend with Tyson, it's just that you were pretty nervous about the whole thing. You had grown very close in your time as neighbors, but it was always just as friends. You'd be lying if you said you didn't have a crush on Tyson, but you always kept it to yourself because you didn't want to ruin their friendship, not to mention you didn't think you were his type. You were also nervous about your family buying their 'relationship'. Not only had you been telling your family that you were still single, but they would never believe that you were dating one of the Colorado Avalanche.
You tried to push it from your mind and focus on getting rid of the hangover. You made your way to the kitchen and guzzled down a glass of water accompanied by a few Tylenol and then rummaged through the fridge to make something to eat.
You posted up on the couch after you ate and watched movies all day. You were able to be a bit more productive on Sunday and cleaned your apartment and went grocery shopping for the week.
~~~~~
You didn't see Tyson until Wednesday night. He had texted you earlier in the day asking if you wanted to get take out. When you got home from work, Tyson was already in your apartment with the take out.
"I could kiss you right now, I'm starving." You said as you dropped your bags on the floor and sat down at the table."
Tyson smirked, "it might be good practice…"
"Oh my god, I actually kind of forgot about that…we should talk about our game plan."
"Yes, I like to excel so I need everything there is to know about your family so I'm fully prepared."
You rolled your eyes, "of course you do…well, I mean how long have we been dating for? I've been telling my family I'm single, but I'm sure I could come up with some excuse why I haven't told them."
"Yeah, it might be kind of weird to take your boyfriend of two weeks to a family wedding…"
"Okay, so how long do you think?"
"6 months?"
"Is that too long?"
Tyson shrugged, "I don't know, I think that's fine."
"Alright, and I think we should stick to saying we met through being neighbors."
"Good idea, less room for slip ups…what are you going to use as an excuse for not telling them?"
"I guess maybe that I wanted to feel things out and also because you're kinda famous?"
"Kinda?! I'm hurt."
You giggled at Tyson's dramatics. "Okay, sorry, you're famous. Fully famous."
"Much better…so let's start with the family lessons. I know you have 3 brothers, Charlie, Ben, and Jack. Your parents are Kate and Steve… but I think that's all I got."
"I'm impressed! Yes, Ben is the oldest, he's a lawyer, he's married to Hailey who is a nurse. Charlie is next, he's a teacher, he's engaged to Casey, who is also a teacher. Then there is Jack, he's in his second year of med school and his girlfriend is Carly, she's a physical therapist. Then my parents, Kate and Steve. My dad is a lawyer, Ben works at his firm. And my mom is a nurse. Do you want me to write this stuff down?"
"No way, I'll get it. Just keep going."
"Alright...the cousin that is getting married is on my dad's side. His name is Tom, his fiancé's name is Lauren. Tom does something with finance, I'm not exactly sure what, and Lauren is a social worker. Tom has one sister, Maddie, she's an aspiring actress…" Tyson stifled a laugh at your face when you said her occupation. "My grandparents are Dave and Shelly, they're both retired, but my grandfather was a lawyer, it’s his firm that my dad and Ben work for. And I think I can just introduce you to everyone else as we go…"
"Alright, got it."
"Do you?" You questioned, not believing him.
"Okay, fine, not yet. But I will."
~~~~~
The next few weeks went by faster than you had wanted. As the wedding grew nearer you became more and more nervous. You had let everyone know that you would be bringing your boyfriend, and of course, the questions rolled in. You told them what you had practiced with Tyson, you weren't sure where things were going to go and didn't want to get their hopes up, and because he's a professional athlete you wanted to make sure everything was sound in their relationship before you went public. Although your mom was upset that you didn’t confide in her earlier, they were happy that you had found a boyfriend. It definitely made you feel guilty for lying, but you were able to get over it.
A few days before you were leaving, you went to Tyson's game. You weren't able to go all of the time, but you had a blast when you did. You had become friends with a few of the WAGs and of course a bunch of the guys.
They were all going out after the game to celebrate the beginning of the All Star break and Tyson had invited you to go so you went down to the locker rooms after the game to wait for him.
"Y/N!" You turned at the familiar voice and smiled and gave Andre a hug.
"Hey, Burky, good game!"
"Thanks, are you coming out with us?"
"I am!!"
"Good, Tys is more fun when you're around." He said, winking. You laughed a bit before a few of the others guys joined and talked about the plans for this evening.
A few minutes later, Tyson came up behind you and wrapped his arm around you.
"Hey, Tys!" You greeted him happily.
"Hey, babe." You rolled your eyes at his choice of words. "What?! I'm just trying to get into character." He defended, which made the guys laugh. They all knew about the arrangement and most of them were hoping this weekend would be the push you needed to actually date.
"You ready?" Tyson asked. You nodded and bid farewells until later.
Tyson drove you back to you building and you split ways to get ready.
"How long do you need?" He asked.
"I'll be ready in like 20??"
"Alright, I'll come over in a half hour." He said chuckling at himself, which caused you to roll your eyes but nod your head and go inside.
An hour later you were making your way through the crowd at the club to find everyone else. Tyson had gone to get them drinks while you sat down next to EJ and Landy. Landy was grilling you about the weekend, him being the number one supporter of you guys actually dating. Luckily he let up a bit on  you when Tyson came back and started in on him.
You kept downing drinks as the night went on and ended up being very drunk. Tyson had to help you through the club and he pretty much carried you to your apartment. He was nervous to leave you alone, so he ran over to his apartment to change and came back to stay with you for the night.
~~~~~
The next morning, you groaned as you peeled your eyes open. You were slightly confused about the arm draped over you because you didn't remember talking to any guys at the club. You relaxed when you looked over and saw that it was Tyson.
"Good morning, sleeping beauty." He said with a smirk.
"Morning….what are you doing here?"
"You were pretty loaded…I was nervous you might throw up in your sleep so I stayed with you."
"Oh, I'm sorry, I really didn't mean to get so drunk…"
"I know, it's all good. You just will really be kicking yourself in the car today!"
"Ugh, don't remind me." You said and rolled back over.
"10 more minutes! Then you need to get up and get ready." Tyson reminded.
"Okay, mom." You muffled into the pillow as you fell back asleep.
An hour later you had the car packed up and were on the way. Thankfully, Tyson offered to drive, knowing your current state and just the fact you didn't love driving anyway. You played the music, luckily you had similar taste, so you jammed out for most of the 4 hour drive. You also quizzed him on your family, and just as he claimed, he remembered it all.
Tyson noticed that you had grown quiet in the last half hour. He reached over and grabbed your hand.
"Hey," he started softly, "it's going to be fine."
"I know, I'm just nervous. Even though they're happy I have a boyfriend, they can be so critical and rude. I'm going to apologize in advance for anything that they say."
"I think I can handle them…I'm used to criticism."
"I know…I just, even though we aren't actually dating, you are one of my best friends and I don't want them to scare you off."
"Don't worry about that…I'm not going anywhere." He said and gave your hand a gentle squeeze before pulling it away. You smiled at him and started to realize that this might not have been the best idea for your sake. You had been able to keep your feelings at bay, but this weekend might change that. You push those thoughts out of your mind as Tyson pulls the car into your driveway. You panicked a bit when you saw all of the cars in the driveway. It had been your understanding that Jack was going to be the only of your brothers home tonight and everyone else would be over tomorrow. Tyson noticed your panic and grabbed your hand again.
"What's wrong?"
"My mom told me Jack and Carly were going to be here tonight, not everyone else…"
"Well that's okay, we'll get it over with."
"I know, I just wasn't prepared for this. I'm sorry, I'll stop freaking out."
Tyson chuckled, "don't apologize. But don't worry either, okay? We got this." He reassured you and kissed your forehead. You blushed at the act, you guys had cuddled before and obviously shared the same bed, but this felt different, and it just made you even more nervous.
You both got out and grabbed your bags before approaching the door. You didn't even have time to put your bag down when it burst open.
"Y/N!!! I've missed you so much!" Your mom exclaimed while giving you a tight hug.
"Hi, mom, I missed you too." Once she let go, she turned to Tyson and you introduced the two. "Mom, this is Tyson, Tys, this is mom, Kate."
"Oh, it's so nice to meet you!!!" Your mom exclaimed again, pulling Tyson in for a hug.
"It's nice to meet you too, Mrs. Y/L/N. I've heard so much about you."
"Oh, please, call me Kate." She said as she let go. "Well, come in! Everyone's dying to meet you!"
You glanced at Tyson and he winked in return. You followed your mom inside and you put your bags down and went into the living room where everyone was sitting. Tyson put his arm on the small of your back and you leaned into him as you walked into the room.
Your brothers all shot up and surrounded you in a hug, separating you and Tyson. You rolled your eyes but laughed and welcomed their embrace. Once they finally let you go, your dad stepped up and gave you a hug and kissed your cheek. "Hey, baby girl. It's nice to see you."
"It's good to see you too, dad, I've missed you." He gave you one more quick squeeze and let you go so you could introduce Tyson to everyone.
"Well, everyone, this is Tyson…" At this point your brother's partners had joined them. "…Tyson, this is my dad, Steve, Ben and Hailey, Charlie and Casey, and Jack and Carly."
Tyson shook all of their hands as you went down the line.
"It's nice to meet you all." Tyson said with a smile.
"It's nice to meet you too, we're glad she's finally bringing someone home to us!" Your dad joked, causing you to roll your eyes.
"Okay, well, we're gonna bring our stuff upstairs. See you in a few." You said grabbing Tyson's hand and dragging him back into the hallway.
"No funny business!" Your brother Charlie called, laughing at himself. You heard Casey scold him and smiled to yourself.
You led Tyson to your old room, telling him you'll give him a tour once you put your bags down.
"That wasn't so bad…" He said as you plopped down on the bed.
"Yet…it's been 5 minutes."
Tyson chuckled and cupped your face with hands, "hey, what did I tell you? Stop worrying."
"I know, I know. I just can't help it."
"Come on, let's go. I'm ready for the grand tour." He said taking your hands and pulling you up. You sighed, but obliged and led him out of the room.
"….and this is the kitchen!" You said as you finished the tour. Your mom smiled at the two of you as you entered the room.
"Your home is very beautiful, Kate." Tyson said to your mom.
"Oh, you're too sweet…do you mind helping me finish up dinner, Y/n/N?"
"Sure. Tys do you want to help?" You asked, not really wanting to throw him to the wolves with your brothers in the next room.
"Yeah, I'll help. What do you need us to do?" He asked sweetly.
"Can you two finish putting the salad together? All of the stuff is on the counter over there."
You nodded and went to the sink to wash your hands and then you and Tyson started cutting up vegetables. You actually were having a lot of fun, Tyson was trying out some of his new jokes on your mom, which she loved. The whole scene felt very domestic, and of course you couldn't help but think about your feelings for him. You were brought back to reality when Tyson gave you a questioning look and mouthed "are you okay?" You forced a smile back and nodded and went back to cutting vegetables.
Once the three of you finished up, your mom called everyone into the dining room for dinner. Everyone took their seats and dug right in.
"This is delicious, mom." Jack complimented with his mouth full. Everyone chuckled and agreed, your mom blushing from the compliments.
"Well, I had good helpers." She said acknowledging you and Tyson. You both smiled and went back to eating.
You were starting to get nervous because your brothers hadn't really said much to Tyson. They had always been very overprotective and tried to scare off the guys you brought around and even though Tyson wasn't actually your boyfriend you were really nervous for what they might say. You knew better than to think that maybe they grew out of that stage, so it just made you more and more anxious for when it was going to come.
You caught Jack's gaze and he gave you a devilish grin. You gave him a warning look but he just shook his head. This was it. It was coming and there was nothing you could do to stop it. You looked at Tyson and he gave you a small smile and squeezed your thigh under the table.
"So, Tyson…" Charlie started "…hockey, huh?"
You shot a glare at your brother but he just smiled sweetly.
"Uh, yeah, I've played ever since I was young."
"How reliable is it to play professionally?" Ben asked this time.
"Ben…" Your mom scolded.
"It's okay, that's a fair question." Tyson defended. "I would say it's pretty secure, as long as I'm playing well and staying healthy."
"What happens if you get injured?" Jack asked.
"Well, if it's minor I'll get treatment until it's healed and then start playing again."
"And if it's not?"
"Well, I guess, I'd be done playing hockey."
"Okay, that's enough." You said glaring at all of your brothers.
"We just want to make sure you're in good hands, Y/n/N." Jack said sweetly.
"I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself with my own salary, so Tyson's job security shouldn't be of concern." That shut them up for a little, but you knew they weren't done. Not with this dinner and certainly not for the rest of the weekend. Tyson squeezed your thigh again, that definitely being his way of telling you not to get too worked up.
Thankfully, your mom changed the subject to talk about plans for the weekend, but that didn't hold for very long.
"So, Tyson…" Jack started this time "…it must be pretty demanding being a professional athlete, do you even see Y/N that much?" You shot him another glare but he just kept smiling.
"Yeah, it can be, we live across the hall from each other so I pretty much see her whenever I'm home."
"Why does it matter to you how often we see each other?" You asked.
"We're just looking out for you, Y/n/N." Charlie defended.
"Well stop, you're just being rude."
"Alright, let's not fight at the table…" Your mom stated, trying to keep the peace. "Hailey, how are things at the hospital?"
You were thankful she changed the subject again, but you still weren't convinced it would put a total end to the grilling.
And you were right, a few minutes later, Jack spoke up again.
"Tyson, you must have a lot of girls after you, being a professional athlete and all."
You didn't even give Tyson the chance to defend himself before you lost it.
"Are you kidding me right now, Jack?! I cannot believe you would even ask that! Can you not be a dick for like one fucking weekend?!" And you stormed off up the stairs.
Tyson excused himself and followed after you. You sat on the bed, too mad to even cry, which you were thankful for. It was embarrassing enough that Tyson just had to sit through and witness what just happened.
"I'm so sorry, Tys." You apologized as he sat down next to you.
"No need to apologize, Y/n/N. It's not your fault your brother is a dick." You cracked a smile at his comment.
"I just didn't think he'd be like that. They've always been super overprotective, but that was just too much."
"It's really okay. Honestly, I can't say that I wouldn't have asked something similar to my sister's boyfriend. I get it. You're their baby sister, they just want what's best for you. I can take their crap, alright?"
"You're too good." You said with a huff, which made Tyson chuckle.
"Only for you, babe." He said and kissed your forehead. You both settled back on the bed and he tucked you into his side.
A little while later there was a knock on your door. You sat up a little bit and told them to come in. It was your mom.
"Hi, sweetie. How are you doing?"
"I'm fine, I just wish Jack wasn't such an asshole."
"I know, I'm sorry, and I'm sorry Tyson that he was acting that way."
"It's okay, I understand, I have a younger sister."
"Well, I think he feels bad he upset you like that…"
"Good." You stated, causing your mom and Tyson to chuckle.
"Alright, well I just wanted to make sure you were okay. Goodnight, you two."
"Goodnight, mom."
"Goodnight, Kate."
"I, um, don't usually freak out like that so, I'm sure it really made them feel bad…" You stated.
"Yeah, now I know to never piss you off."
You laughed at Tyson and cuddled back into his side. "That kind of freak out is reserved for my brothers. You probably won't ever be on the receiving end."
"Good to know." He said chuckling back. "You wanna watch New Girl?"
"Sure, I'm gonna go get changed first."
The rest of the night was spent watching Netflix, cuddled up in your bed. No apology from Jack but you didn't really expect one. He'll probably half ass one in the morning, and you'll forgive him, you always do.
~~~~~~
You were right. When you went downstairs for breakfast, it was just Jack in the kitchen. He looked over at you and held his arms out, signifying a hug. You looked at him and raised your eyebrows, awaiting those magic words.
"Come on, are you really going to make me say it?"
"Yes! You were so awful last night. You really owe an apology to Tyson…"
"Fine, I'm sorry, Y/n/N. I took it too far."
"Yes, you did. But I forgive you…as long as you cool it for the rest of the weekend!"
"I will, I promise."
"Thank you." You beamed and gave him a hug.
"Aww, how sweet!" Charlie cooed as he interrupted you and Jack.
"Hey, I think you and Ben also owe her an apology."
"No way, we didn't take it as far as you did." Charlie defended just as Ben walked in.
"Yeah, I agree, we were pretty mild." Ben agreed.
"Would it really be that bad to apologize to me?" You asked, fully knowing the answer.
"Yes." Ben and Charlie answered at the same time.
You rolled your eyes but went about your business.
"Where is lover boy anyway?" Charlie asked.
You shrugged, "still sleeping."
"Not out for an early morning run?" Jack teased, you rolled your eyes again.
"Stop!! You said you'd cool it!"
"Relax, I'm just teasing."
You rolled your eyes as you sat down at the table and your brothers joined around you.
"But seriously, Y/n/N. Are you happy?"
"Yes, Ben, I'm very happy. He's really good to me."
"Okay good, then we're happy. But as soon as he does something to hurt you…he's done for."
"I know, I know. Although…he is a professional athlete, are you sure you could take him?" You teased.
"Please, it's no contest." Charlie defended which made you laugh.
Just as he was about to throw a grape at you, Tyson walked in the kitchen.
"Good morning, Tys!" You called from the table. He came over and sat next to you and greeted your brothers. "Are you hungry? I can make you some eggs, or we have cereal, I could make pancakes?"
"How come you didn't offer to make any of us that stuff??" Jack whined. You just rolled your eyes and looked back at Tyson.
"I'll have some eggs, but I can help you." He said and the two of you got up and started cooking.
Everyone else ended up joining you in the kitchen so you ended up making breakfast for everyone else too, but you didn't mind. It was fun to hang out with everybody and you were glad that your brothers were done with third degree.
After breakfast you and Tyson went back upstairs to showered for the day. You wanted to show him around your hometown and have a chill day because the next two days were going to be filled with wedding stuff.
When you walked back into your room after your shower, Tyson was lying on the bed looking at his phone. You were just in a towel and while you and Tyson were pretty comfortable with each other, you expected him to go take his shower so you could change. He looked up at you and smirked when he saw your attire.
"You gonna give me a show?"
"Tyson!" You cried. "We're at my parents…and it's 10 in the morning."
"So you're saying you would though?"
"Seriously, that's what you took from that?"
Tyson smirked at you and moved to get off the bed. You watched him as he rummaged through his things and then started to move past you to go to the bathroom. Just as you thought you were safe, he slapped your ass and hurried out of the room. You gasped, though it wasn't very hard, you were not expecting that. You wanted to mad but you couldn't help but smile. If he wanted to play it like that this weekend, you were gonna give it right back.
You decided to only get half-dressed to start…you put on a sexy bra and super cheeky underwear. Once satisfied with your look, you laid down on the bed and waited for Tyson to come back. You didn’t have to wait long, a few minutes later you heard him opening the door.
"Hey, do you know if there is anymore-- whoa." You smirked at the thought of Tyson's face, you couldn't see because you were lying on your stomach so your ass was showing. What you didn't bargain for was for him to be so composed and not let it get to him. So just as you were about to turn around to see what he was doing, you felt a much harder slap to your ass.
"Ow, Tyson! What the hell!"
"Hey, you put your ass out here like that…I can't help it." He smirked and plopped down next to you.
"You're the worst." You grinned as you got up to finish getting dressed.
"You ready?" You asked a little while later after both of you had gotten dressed.
"Yes ma'am, let's get to it. Lots of history to see."
"History? I would hardly call this town historical."
"Yeah, your history." He said with a sweet smile. Your heart melted and you were really starting to wonder if you would make it through this weekend.
You started off by showing him the spot where everyone went to party, you didn't stay long because it was pretty cold, but he thought it was funny that a random spot in the woods was where you used to get drunk. "Hey, you do what you gotta do in a small town." You defended before moving on. You then took him by the high school, you couldn't really spend much time there either because kids were in school. Next you brought him 'downtown'. You walked around going into different little shops and boutiques. Then you brought him to your favorite place to eat for lunch.
The two of you talked a lot about high school and how different it was for both of you. You had never really talked much about your past during your friendship so it was nice to get to know each other a little better.
"So, tell me all about high school Y/N." He said once the two of you had ordered your food.
You sighed, "what do you want to know?"
"I don't know…were you popular? A jock? A nerd?"
"I mean…I guess I was popular…I played sports, I wouldn't identify as a nerd but I did do well in school…"
"Wait you played sports?"
"Yeah, soccer, hockey, and lacrosse."
"I'm sorry, what? You played hockey?? How come you never told me?"
"I don't know…I guess it never came up."
"We talk about hockey all the time…"
"Yeah, you playing hockey…professional hockey…not high school girls hockey. Besides, I really wasn't very good soo..."
"So what?! I can't believe you didn't tell me…I'm taking you skating as soon as we get back to Denver so you can show me your moves."
You shook your head, "nope. No way."
"Why not?!"
"Because I'm really not very good, and that's why I've never mentioned it because I knew that you would make me go skating with you."
"Oh come on, I seriously doubt you're that bad."
"Compared to you, yeah, I am."
Tyson rolled his eyes. "You are so ridiculous…so what else did you do in high school?"
"Well, I was in chorus…and don't ask me to sing for you because I will not be doing that."
"Come on, you're no fun." Tyson whined.
You laughed at him and shook your head, "yeah I guess I left all of it here."
"Anything else that I don't know about you that you want to share with me?? Crazy ex boyfriends?? Girlfriends??"
"I guess I should probably tell you…I do have an ex who will be going to the wedding…we dated for a few years but he was kinda shitty.."
"Shitty?"
You sighed, not really wanting to get into it but you knew that you should give him an explanation because you really didn't know what would happen this weekend. "It was a pretty unhealthy relationship…of course I didn't really know that at the time. It wasn't until I went off to college that I started realizing that something was wrong. I tried to end things while I was away but he wouldn't really let it happen so I tried again when I went back home for break and he, like, freaked out…and um, hit me, so I called my friend to come get me… I was able to get out of the relationship with some help but nothing ever really happened to him because I guess he was having drinking issues…"
"Wait, he hit you…and your family is still bringing him around?"
"Yeah...my uncle is really good friends with his dad so…"
"I'm so sorry, Y/n/N…are you gonna be okay this weekend?"
"It's okay.…it's been a few years now. I haven't really seen him much, I usually avoid the gatherings he goes to. I'm not really sure what will happen this weekend…"
"Well I won't leave your side the whole time. I'll protect you."
"Thanks, Tys. I'm actually so thankful you came with me this weekend."
"Of course. You do so much for me all the time…it's the least I could do."
Even though he meant that in the best way possible, and despite all of the flirty comments and advances, it just reinforced that he really was just here as your friend.
You spent the rest of lunch talking about random stuff. Tyson took his phone out and started taking a picture of you.
"Stop! What are you doing?" You said covering your face.
"Put your hands down!! This is great lighting. Smile, look cute."
You relented and let him take your picture. "You better not put that anywhere."
Tyson smirked, "too late."
"Tyson! I’m gonna kill you." You checked your phone and sure enough he tagged you in his Instagram story.
"It's fine, you look really pretty!"
"Okay, but you have so many followers! They're going to think we're dating."
"We are...aren't we?"
You rolled your eyes and focused back on your food.
"I can take it down if you really want me to, but that might look extra sus."
"No, it's fine. I just will kill you if you do it again."
There wasn't really much else to show him so after you finished you headed back to your parent's house.
Your parents were the only ones home so you greeted them and headed up to your room. Tyson went to the bathroom so you took the opportunity to change into some comfy clothes and put on Netflix. You didn't acknowledge him when he walked back into your room but he had the same idea you did, he stripped down and put on some sweats before lying next to you in bed. Normally you would snuggle up next to him but you decided you needed to start distancing yourself a bit otherwise you were going to end up getting hurt.
You ended up falling asleep and woke up an hour later and woke up with your head on Tyson's shoulder. Figures, you knew that would happen. You turned your head and noticed that he was asleep too and he had wrapped his arm around your waist. You sighed as you grabbed your phone from your nightstand and settled back into bed, not wanting to wake him up.
You opened Instagram and were met with hundreds of notifications. Luckily, you were private, but you had a ton of follower requests. Thanks, Tyson. You scrolled through them, most of them being random girls, a few cute guys that you took the chance and let them follow you. There were a few people with the little blue check mark, mostly other guys in the NHL, but one in particular caught your eye. Mat Barzal. You knew that Tyson was friends with him, and you'd be lying if you denied thinking he was attractive. You had always had a little crush on him, so you accepted his request and kept scrolling through. A few minutes later, you received a DM from Mat. Your heart started racing as you went to open it.
Tyson didn't tell me his neighbor friend was so cute ;)
Okay, now you were freaking out, you did not expect that. Obviously Tyson had told him that he was going to a wedding with you. But it was also more proof that Tyson thought of you as just a friend. I mean, he would have told Mat that he liked you, right? You were interrupted from your thoughts by Tyson shifting next to you.
"Who's that?" He asked groggily.
"Um, no one." You said quickly exiting out of Instagram.
"Obviously not." He said grabbing your phone from your hand and getting out of bed.
"Tyson! Give me my phone back."
"I just want to see who's DMing you." You tried grabbing it from his hands but he held you back with one arm. "Mat?" He asked, growing serious.
"You're the one who posted the story…I'm getting lots of requests from guys in the NHL."
"But Mat?"
"You're acting as if I have any control over this."
"You know he's my friend right?"
"Tyson, he messaged me, I don't know what you want me to do."
"Are you gonna respond?"
"I don't know, I don't really know what to say back to that."
"Do you want to?"
"Well I don't want to be rude, but if it's going to bother you I guess I won't."
"No, I'm sorry, you can respond. I guess it just caught me off guard." He said giving you your phone and leaving the room.
You huffed and sat down on the bed. You were so confused. Why would Tyson react like that if he just liked you as a friend? This weekend was really messing with your head and you were kind of regretting bringing him with you. You had already accepted that you should get over your feelings for him, but now you were worried that it was going to mess with your friendship.
You contemplated what to say back to Mat. You didn't want to upset Tyson but you also didn't want to leave him on read, it might be kind of awkward if you guys ever met in person.
Tyson came back a few minutes later and seemed to be in a little bit of a better mood.
"Did you respond?" He asked, sitting down next to you.
"Not yet, I don't know what to say…any ideas?"
"You wanna mess with him a bit?" He asked with a smirk.
"I don't know, Tys, I don't know him."
"But I do…he'll think it's funny."
You sighed and handed him your phone, "fine."
Tyson took it happily and started typing away.
"What are you saying?" You asked, trying to look over his shoulder. He moved the phone so you could see it.
You know Tyson?
You looked at Tyson quizzically, "where are you going  with this?"
"I'm gonna make it seem like you don't know who he is."
"Tys, that's just mean."
"Relax, it'll be fine."
You only had to wait a few minutes before he replied again.
Wait, Tys hasn't mentioned me?
Tyson started laughing when he read it and you just rolled your eyes, wishing you had never agreed to this.
No…sorry :( Tyson cackled as he sent back,
"It’s not as funny as you think it is, you know."
"Oh, it's hilarious."
Damn, well then I guess I'm gonna have to get you to fall for me all by myself
You laughed as you watched Tyson react to the response.
"Guess that didn't work as well as you thought it would." You teased, grabbing your phone.
"Wait, let me say one more thing!!"
"No, you've done enough. I'm telling him it was a joke."
"You are absolutely no fun." Tyson whined.
You shrugged, "sorry!"
Hey, I’m so sorry, Tyson saw that you DM'd me and thought that it would be funny to mess with you…
I know who you are haha
Of course he did…what a relief though, you are very pretty I would love to meet you sometime :)
I'm sure we could make that happen…as long as Tyson doesn't get in the way.
"What are you saying?" Tyson asked when he saw you grinning at your phone like a teenager.
"Why must you know everything?"
"Because you're both my friends…"
"Fine." You said and showed him what you said. "Looks like you have to introduce us."
Tyson rolled his eyes, "we'll see."
You chose to just ignore him because you didn't want to argue anymore.
"We should probably go socialize…" You said sighing and getting up.
Tyson let out a sigh too and rummaged through his things to find a shirt to put on. Once he put one on the two of you headed downstairs.
Your mom, Casey, and Carly were in the kitchen getting started on dinner. You asked if they needed help but they said no so you went into the living room where your dad, Jack, and Charlie were all watching TV. You took the open loveseat and Tyson put his arm around you and you cuddled into his side. Although things were a little weird between the two of you, you had to keep appearances up. There wasn't much talking going on, although you were glad that your brothers were being pleasant with Tyson.
Tyson was focused on the TV while you were scrolling through Twitter. You hadn't even noticed that Tyson was now looking at your phone with you until he squeezed your shoulder and laughed at the tweet you just liked. You relaxed a little bit more in his arms, glad that things were becoming more comfortable again.
Dinner was much better than it was the night before. Everyone was laughing and making jokes, no one was grilling Tyson…
You helped your mom clean up while everyone else went into the living room to set up for a game of charades.
"So, how are you?" Your mom asked.
"Um, I'm good…why?"
"What? I can't ask how you are?"
"Well, you can, it just seemed a little out of the blue."
"I haven't really had any time alone with you…"
"I know, I'm sorry. I just worry about leaving Tyson alone with them…"
"How come you never told me about him?"
"I told you mom, I didn't know if things were serious or not, and we wanted to keep it kind of private, hockey fans can be crazy."
"I know, but I'm your mother. I want you to feel like you can tell me things like that."
"I do mom, I really do. I'm sorry, I should have told you earlier."
"Things are good with you two?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Things seemed a little tense tonight…"
"We just had a little disagreement earlier, but it's all good."
"Okay...he seems like a really great guy, Y/n/N, and the way he looks at you…it reminds me of how my father looked at my mother…he's really in love with you sweetie. I hope this works out for you two."
You smiled sweetly at your mom and gave her a hug, even though that was the last thing you wanted to hear right now. At this point, you had stopped getting your hopes at little signs because they never ended up meaning anything.
Once you were finished cleaning up, you and your mom joined everyone else in the living room. You sat down next to Tyson and he put his arm around and kissed the side of your head. You were not looking forward to this game, your family was very competitive, and although you knew Tyson was too, it could get out of hand pretty quickly.
You were split into two teams, thankfully you were with Tyson, Charlie, Casey, and your dad. Jack and Ben are the worst to have on your team because they are the most competitive and they get super pissed when you're not performing well. Your dad and Charlie were also really good at charades so you'd probably win.
It actually ended up being a lot of fun. Thankfully, Jack and Ben didn't get too worked up and of course everyone was drinking so everyone was laughing and having a good time. Your parents called it quits when Ben and Hailey left to go back to their house. The rest of you stayed up and talked for a while before everyone slowly tucked in for the night.
When you and Tyson finally laid down you were exhausted.
"Well tonight went much better than last…" Tyson said, pulling you closer to him.
"Yes...thankfully. I was a little nervous, Jack and Ben can be a little crazy when it comes to games."
Tyson chuckled, "you're one to talk…"
You scoffed, "hey! I am not that competitive."
"Um, I have a monopoly board that would say differently."
"Oh my god, okay, I was really drunk…I don't usually get like that."
"Whatever you say…"
You shook your head and reached over to turn the lamp off.
"Do we have to be up early tomorrow?" Tyson asked.
"No, I don't think so. I think we have to be at the church by 3."
"Perfect, I want to sleep in, I'm exhausted."
"I know, me too."
"Are you gonna sleep in?" He asked, wrapping his arm around your waist.
"I'm gonna try…why?"
"It was hard to keep sleeping once you got up…"
"You want me to stay in bed until you get up?"
"Pretty please?" He asked, sticking his lip out.
You shook your head and chuckled, "yes, I can do that, but not if it's super late!!"
"Okay, deal. Night, Y/n/N."
"Goodnight, Tys."
The next morning you were kicking yourself for the deal you made. You were so tangled up in Tyson it was going to be impossible to even move. You tried to carefully grab your phone so you could see what time it was. 9 am. You relaxed and began checking all of your social media. You were careful to avoid your DMs, you didn't want him to wake up and see anything that would upset him. Although you still wanted to know why he actually cared so much about Mat messaging you.
A little while the arm around your waist tightened and Tyson's head poked up.
"So much better when you're in bed with me." He said groggily. "…just wish we were naked."
"Tyson!" You said shooting up to a sitting position. You looked over at his smug little face. "You are such an asshole."
"You love me." He shrugged, putting an arm around you.
You rolled your eyes, "you disgust me."
You laid there quietly for a few minutes before Tyson spoke up again, "you ready for today?"
"Pretty sure that should be a question for the bride…"
“`Yes but the whole reason I’m here this weekend is to help you get through it.” “Okay, yeah...I’m sure it’ll be fine. Seeing you with me should shut everyone up.”
A smug grin appeared on Tyson’s face, “I can’t argue with you there…”
You shook your head and laughed before growing serious again. “I just am a little nervous about seeing Jake...I don’t know if he’s still drinking and I’m worried he’s going to cause a scene.”
“Well if he does than fuck that. It won’t be your fault either so don’t feel bad if he does.” “I know, it’s just, everyone has always pitied him and let things slide because he’s an alcoholic. I just don’t think my family will see it as his fault...they’ll blame it on me for bringing some new guy around even though that’s all they talk about. I just can’t win with them.”
“Okay, well let’s not get too ahead of ourselves here. Hopefully everything will be fine and we won’t have to worry about it. If it does, we’ll deal with it then, okay? Just try and relax and have fun. Weddings are supposed to be fun.”
“I know...thanks, Tys. I know I keep saying this but I really do appreciate you being here with me.”
“And I will keep telling you that it’s no big deal, sweets.” You smiled as he kissed your forehead. You were quiet for a few moments before he spoke up again. “So...have you heard from Mat at all?”
“Not since last night…” You said softly while Tyson just nodded. “Why?” Tyson shrugged, “just wondering.” You gave him a pointed look. “What? I am!”
“How come you seemed so upset about it last night?” “I didn’t mean to seem upset, I just, I don’t know, it caught me off guard. But I know you think he’s attractive so go for it I guess.” He said enthusiastically.
“Okay, well I don’t care what you say, it clearly bothers you in some way, so I’m not going to talk to him.”
Tyson rolled his eyes but didn’t argue so you figured that meant there was some truth in your statement.
You laid in bed for about another hour talking about random stuff before you got up to shower and start getting ready.
“Alright,” you started as you untangle yourself from Tyson, “I’m gonna get in the shower.” “Wanna save some water and shower together?” He asked with a cheeky grin, grabbing your wrist to keep you in place.
“Absolutely not.” You said as you shrugged his hand off of yours and walked out of the room.
Tyson looked up when you walked back into your room. He opened his mouth but you cut him off before he could even say anything.
“Whatever you’re about to say, the answer is no. Go get in the shower.”
Tyson pouted, but did as he was told, not before grabbing your ass on the way out with a little giggle. You rolled your eyes and went about getting ready.
You couldn’t help but glance over at Tyson as he strolled back through the door a few minutes later. The towel he had wrapped around his waist was starting to fall off of his hips and you had a clear picture of his V line. You hadn’t really noticed that you were staring until you heard Tyson start talking to you.
“Like what you see?”
You blushed and rolled your eyes turning back towards the mirror to finish your makeup.
Once you were finally done with your makeup, Tyson had stepped out of the room so you took the opportunity to put your dress on. You slipped it on and tried your best to zip it up but you couldn’t quite reach. When you heard the door open again you turned to ask Tyson for help.
“Hey Tys can you help me-” You stopped when you saw him staring at you. “Is everything okay? Is there something wrong with my dress?” You asked, starting to panic a bit.
“No, no, not at all. I, um, you just look really beautiful.”
You visibly relaxed and smiled at him. “Thanks, Tys. Could you help me zip up though?” He nodded and stepped towards you and turned back around so he could help you. You could feel Tyson’s breath on the back of your neck. Once he zipped you up you turned around slowly, Tyson not moving a muscle. You looked up at him, his face just inches from yours. He cupped your chin in his hand and he brought your face to his and kissed you softly. You closed your eyes and welcomed his lips on yours.
Tyson pulled away after a few moments and turned away. “Shit, I’m sorry, I…” He trailed off and sat on the bed.
You grew sad at his reaction. Although he initiated the kiss it seems like he also regrets it.
“It’s okay...I, um, I’m gonna go downstairs.” You said and quickly left the room. You ducked into the bathroom and leaned against the counter willing yourself not to cry so you wouldn’t ruin your makeup. You took a few deep breaths to compose yourself and you made your way to the door. Just as you were about to turn the knob there was a knock.
“Y/n/N? Can I come in?” It was Tyson. The tears that you just suppressed were quickly coming back. You opened the door and retreated back to the counter.
“Jesus, are you crying?” You covered your face with your hands because the tears were now rolling. “Please don’t cry Y/N. I didn’t mean to upset you, jesus…” he trailed off as he placed his hands on your shoulders. “Please stop crying...I don’t know why I did that…” “It’s fine, Tys, you got caught up in the moment, it’s fine.” “What? No, not the kiss...the kiss was amazing...I totally meant to do that. I don’t know why I pulled away like that. I guess I just thought maybe that’s not what you wanted and I thought I messed everything up. I guess I did that anyway…” You didn’t say anything and you didn’t move for a few moments. “Will you look at me please?” He asked, softly guiding your chin up to look at him. “I’m sorry, Y/n/N. Please don’t be upset.” “You’re wrong you know…” He gave you a puzzled look but you just kept going. “I’ve wanted you to kiss me so badly...for so long. I just thought maybe you regretted it and that’s why you pulled away…”
“Not at all, babe...not at all.” He said, moving in, grabbing the sides of your face and kissing you tenderly.
This time when he pulled away his hands stayed where they were and he wiped away the remaining tears with his thumbs. “God you are so gorgeous.”
You couldn’t help but laugh a little, “Tyson, I’m crying and my makeup is everywhere.”
“That’s what makes you so beautiful.”
You shook your head and smiled at him, taking his hands in yours and bringing them to your sides.
“Come on, let’s go get you fixed up.” He said, leading you back to your room.
It didn’t take you too long to fix your makeup, and before you knew it you heard your mom yell up the stairs telling you guys to hurry up. You grabbed your shoes and sat on the bed next to Tyson to put them on. You started to open the door to leave and Tyson took your hand to stop you.
“Tys, we need to go what ar-” He stopped you with another kiss that you melted into.
“I know, I’m sorry, I just can’t get enough of your lips right now…”
You chuckled and rolled your eyes, “if we go now you can explore all of my lips later…”
Tyson’s eyes widened and he hurried both of you downstairs where the rest of your family was waiting.
~~~~~~
It was a beautiful day, although still pretty cold, the sun was shining and the snow was shimmering. The church looked gorgeous, they had decorated it with tons and tons of flowers, it looked like a garden and it was beautiful.
You held onto Tyson's arm as you followed the rest of your family to sit down. You got there on the earlier side, so there weren't too many people there yet. You found yourself looking back at the doors quite often, waiting for Jake to arrive. Tyson noticed, because you really weren't being very discrete about it, so he took your hand in his and squeezed it gently. You looked at him and smiled. You were so happy and relieved that you two finally shared how you felt and that you could finally be together. You wanted to believe that nothing would ruin such a beautiful day, but if anyone could, it would be Jake.
You were successfully distracted from the door by your brother's ridiculous argument over which of your cousins was going to get the most shitfaced. By the end of it you had placed $20 on who you thought I'd be.
When the ceremony was about to start, you looked to your left and your breath hitched. You grabbed Tyson's hand and looked at you before following your gaze across the room to where Jake was. He looked back and gave you a reassuring smile and kissed the side of your head. Thankfully, the music started to play and your focus was on the wedding party walking in.
The ceremony was beautiful, their vows were adorable, and all of the speakers and passages were very fitting. It wasn't too long either, which was also nice, you couldn't sit still for very long so you liked when things were quick.
Because of all of the people leaving the church, you avoided an encounter with Jake which you were glad about but you knew it was going to happen so the dread just set in. You were able to keep pretty busy throughout the night. Introducing Tyson to everyone and catching up with family you hadn't seen in a while. Tyson stayed by your side pretty much the whole night which was super comforting. You were nervous for him to leave you because you had caught Jake staring at you a few times, and you knew as soon as you were alone he was going to come up to you.
It didn't happen for a little while longer, which you didn't know if it was better or worse because you now had multiple vodka sodas in you. You had been sitting at the table with Tyson, taking a break from the dance floor, when your dad and uncles had come up to you and asked to steal Tyson. You tried to object but your uncles were insistent on spending a little time with him. You rolled your eyes and sat back, trying to push the anxious thoughts away. But that wasn't happening when you saw him approaching you. You tried to stand up but he grabbed your arm before you could take a step.
"Y/N, please. Just let me talk to you."
You sighed and sat down, making a point to shrug your arm out of his grip.
"So, who's the guy?"
"Tyson, my boyfriend." He scoffed at your reply. "What?" You asked.
"Nothing, I'm just surprised is all."
"Why?"
"Word on the street is, he's a professional athlete."
"So?"
"So, it's probably not going to last long. I wouldn’t say that you’re really his type."
"You don't know anything about me, Jake. We haven't talked in years. And I would really like to keep it that way, so please, leave me alone."
"Oh, come on, Y/n/N. Don't be like that. I wasn't that bad, you blew things way out of proportion."
"Did I? Because I'm pretty sure if your dad wasn't as good of friends with my uncle that you would have been in jail, not rehab. You're lucky you got off as well as you did. Me? I didn't get off that easy. You really fucked me up. I couldn't get near a guy for a year because of you. You were abusive. You were an asshole. And I wish that I hadn't wasted so many years of my life with you." You weren't really sure where you got the nerve to say all that, because as soon as it came out of your mouth you were scared of how he was going to react. He opened his mouth, but before he could get a word out, you heard a voice behind you.
"I believe the lady has spoken, you can go now."
To your surprise, he walked right away. It was probably Tyson towering over him that scared him off.
"Well, I was feeling badly that I left you out in the open but it appears my girlfriend is a total badass and was fine on her own…" He commented, wrapping his arms around you and placing his chin on top of your head.
"Yeah, well I'm surprised too. I have no idea why I thought that would be a good idea. I'm not sure what would have happened if you hadn't come over."
"Well, hopefully we never have to find out…are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm good. It felt good to get that out."
"Good, fuck that guy."
"Yeah, fuck that guy." You said agreeing with him as you let go. "I need another drink…a stiff one."
"Anything for you, my love."
The rest of the night was pretty uneventful, however you downed a few more drinks and were very drunk. Tyson helped you to the car and then up to your room once you got home.
You stripped out of your dress and pounced on Tyson.
"Whoa, easy there killer." He said catching you and placing you gently on the bed.
You kissed for a few minutes before he climbed off of you. "Alright, bedtime."
"What?! Tyson…" you whined. "I've been waiting so long for this."
“Oh have you?!” He asked, quirking his eyebrows.
“Yes, now pleeeeeease.” She whined.
“You’re too drunk, and besides it’s a little weird with your parents down the hall.”
"Ugh, fiiiine." You pouted, taking your bra off and getting comfy in the bed.
"Can you put a shirt on?"
"Oh my god, Tyson, what is wrong with you?"
"I don't know if I can control myself laying with you naked all night. Just please." He said, throwing you one of his shirts.
You sighed and put his shirt over your head. He climbed into bed next to you and wrapped his arms around you.
"I'm so glad you came with me this weekend, Tys."
"Me too, I don't think I could have lasted much longer just as your neighbor."
"Yeah, it was starting to really get to me…"
"What do you mean?"
"I just was thinking that I was going to have to distance myself because I couldn't suppress my feelings anymore…"
"Well, then I'm definitely glad we had this weekend, I would have been really sad if you did that."
"I don't know if I could live with myself if I made you sad…not to mention I'd have Landy on my ass."
"He's been texting me all weekend."
"Really? Why?"
"Updates on if we're together or not."
"Did you tell him?"
"Nah, I want to mess with him a bit."
You chuckled and rolled your eyes, "what are you gonna do?"
"I'm just going to tell him that we had an awful weekend, we got into a huge fight and we're not even friends anymore."
"You're awful."
"But when I finally tell him that we are together now, he'll be so happy he won't even care."
"Okay, just leave me out of it!"
"Oh you're in it now. We're partners for life."
"For life?"
"I hope so."
"Me too." You said with a small smile. You turned so you were now facing him. "Goodnight, Tys." You said softly, giving him a kiss before snuggling into his chest.
"Goodnight, Y/n/N."
~~~~~~~
The next day you had a big brunch with your family before everyone went their separate ways again. Now that you and Tyson were actually together you were so much more relaxed. Despite the hangovers, everyone was laughing and joking around. You were actually a little sad that you were leaving. But, you were excited to get out of your parent's house and spend some alone time with Tyson.
After what seemed like a never ending goodbye, you and Tyson were finally on the road back to Denver. The car ride was much more pleasurable. Again, you were more relaxed, the weekend was behind you, and you frankly couldn't wait to get back.
When you pulled into the garage, you grabbed all of your bags and headed upstairs. You parted ways so you could put your bags down. A few minutes later, Tyson strolled through your front door. You were grabbing a glass of water in the kitchen, so you got one for him too and then you went back to your room so you could unpack and start some laundry.
"Do you want to bring your laundry over here?" You asked him as you gathered your dirty clothes.
"It's alright, I can do it later."
"I don't mind, Tys. I'm doing it anyway."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, go get it."
Tyson gave you a quick kiss on the cheek and walked off to go get his laundry.
Once you had a load going the two of you went and sat on the couch. You started off just talking but then ended up making out a bit. Tyson was now lying on top of you and things were starting to get heated when his phone rang. "Shit," he muttered as he rummaged around trying to find it on the couch. "It's Landy, I have to answer, I told him to call me."
You rolled your eyes but sat up next to him as he settled back.
"Hey, man." He greeted solemnly. You mouthed for him to put it on speaker.
"Hey, are you home? What happened?"
"Yeah, I'm home…um, things didn't go so well."
"Oh no...what happened?"
"Well, things with her family weren't good to start with. Then the first night we got into a fight about her brothers, and then we got into another argument the next day and I almost just left…I ended up staying but I don't think we're really even friends anymore…"
"WHAT?! Why wouldn't you be friends anymore? What did you do???"
You had to suppress your laughter at Tyson's face when Gabe insinuated it was something he did and not you.
"Why would you think it was something I did?!" Tyson asked, obviously very offended.
"It's Y/N…she just doesn't do anything wrong."
"Okay, well, I don't know. We need a break from each other."
"What the hell, Tyson? Did you even tell her how you feel?"
"I was going to, but I figured telling her after we just had a screaming match wouldn't be the best idea."
"You screamed at each other??? Jesus, what did you fight about?"
"Mat Barzal."
"What?!"
"Yeah he DM'd her on Instagram and it pissed me off."
"Seriously? You screamed at her?! That's not even her fault, man."
"I know, I shouldn't have gotten upset with her, but I did, and now we're just giving each other some space."
"That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Go over to her place right now and make things right."
"I can't, man."
"You can, and you will."
"No, I really can't."
"And why not?"
"Because I'm already over here."
"What?"
"I'm just messing with you, Landy. We're dating now."
"Are you kidding me?! Y/N are you there? Were you in on this??"
"I wanted no part in it!!!"
"Ugh, Tyson, I want to be so mad at you right now, but I'm too happy for you!! It's about time, though. We were going to give you guys like another week, tops, before we took matters into our own hands."
You and Tyson both laughed, "who is we?!" You asked.
"Me, Mel, basically the whole team…"
"Well I'm glad we have lots of supporters." You commented as Tyson pursed his lips.
"NO one will be butting into this relationship…I'm serious Landy."
"I'm sorry that's not the way it works, Josty." Tyson rolled his eyes but you just giggled. "Anyway, I'm glad you two love birds finally figured it out. Have a good rest of your day and use protection!!!"
Tyson rolled his eyes again and hung up on Landy. "We're turning our phones off and spending the rest of the day in the bedroom." He commanded as he put his phone down on the coffee table. He looked at you signifying for you to do the same and you obeyed then followed him into your bedroom.
baby ➵ k. bakugou
SUMMARY | baby fever at it’s prime time. in which you take care of bakugou, who got hit with a baby quirk and realizing maybe you are ready for a family of your own
GENRE | crack, fluff
A/N | i caved cs i miss bakugo lmfao + i keep seeing those baby edits on instagram so why not do it with bakugo cs jan the bakugo stan is suddenly awake p.s i had this in my drafts for the longest time and since i have writers block atm,,, why not post it hehAHDUHAFS im a bit rusty atm so <3 be easy on me fellas HAHAHHAHAHh
Tumblr media
it seems like even during quarantine season, bakugou couldn’t catch a break.
there was a villain on the loose with a quirk that transforms you back into your baby phase within an hour and apparently the effect lasts for 24 hours at best. when bakugou heard this on his way to the grocery store, all he could think of was why out of all times, a villain would miraculously escape.
“damn police men couldn’t even keep villains in check” bakugou tsked as he finds a good parking spot just right outside the entrance. “also damn that shitty woman for waiting til the last minute to get emergency groceries” he glares at the long list you gave him earlier today.
after filling up the whole cart and spending a shit ton of money, bakugo finally walks out of the store with several eco bags in his hands. “shit my keys” bakugo curses as he dropped them on the ground.
and right at the moment bakugou picks up his key, the said villain attacked out of no where.
screams of the innocent bystanders filled the area quickly as the villain used his quirk to anyone within 3 feet from him and to bakugo’s dismay, he was within the villain’s reach and thus, he got hit with the quirk.
“YOU WANT TO DIE?!” bakugo yells out as his explosions were going off. not wasting anymore time, bakugo sent the villain flying and knocked them out unconscious just in time as the authorities finally arrived.
“sir were you hit?” an officer interrogates him about the incident. “obviously. i already smell like baby powder!” bakugo grumbles, “now if you will excuse me, i have to get home within an hour since the effect will take place” he scurries past the officer and quickly got into his car and sped home
with the shitty traffic in his city, he barely got home in time. only managing to ring the doorbell as the quirk finally settled in, bakugo shrunk into a tiny body under his clothes.
“hello?” you greet as you opened the door to see no one. but a baby’s cry caught your attention. you looked down to see bakugo’s clothes scattered with a large eco bag beside it. “oh my god!” you exclaimed as you see baby bakugo climb its way out of bakugo’s clothes.
—
you didn’t know wether to laugh or to cry at the current situation as you stared at the angry looking, blonde baby in front of you. “katsuki... what happened?” you stiffled in your laughter. bakugou starts talking but since he was in baby form, you couldn’t understand a single thing that came out of his mouth.
“hmm.. i see” you nod in fake understandment, grabbing your phone and taking a bunch of pictures and sending it to his best buddy, kirishima in the process. suddenly, bakugou’s stomach started grumbling.
“boom boom baby hungry already?” you giggled, pinching his fat cheeks before rummaging through your cupboards looking for something that was actually baby friendly. luckily there was some porridge left from a day before.
you placed the porridge in front of him as you sat back at your seat earlier, observing him. bakugou stared at the plate in front of him before smacking the spoon that came along with it. “katsuki! where are your table manners!” you scold, picking up the spoon off the floor.
bakugou’s lips start trembling which only meant one thing, he was about to cry. and if there is one thing you couldn’t stand in the whole wide world, it was the sound of babies crying.
“okay okay okay shhhh i’ll feed you” you attempt to shush baby bakugou. bakugou looks up at you with his red, fiery eyes. ‘he’s lucky he’s cute’ you thought to yourself as you sat beside him and began to spoon feed him.
“here comes the airplane katsuki~” you cooed, swirling the spoon in the air. you placed the spoon inside his tiny mouth as he began to eat happily, much to your enjoyment.
+
you spent the entire day hanging out with baby bakugou. just playing with him and attempting to get a decent conversation out of the baby and it was finally night time.
you managed to get him changed into something comfortable and now you were laying on your big ass bed, playing around with your baby. it was only a matter of time til he changed back to normal.
“you know katsuki, i’m kinda glad you got hit with this baby quirk” you say, as you stared at him longingly. “it’s like i’m practicing how to be a mom” you snort. “maybe i actually do want to start a family with you”
“you’d be a great dad, i’m sure of it” you continued as the baby fever starts to hit. you noticed baby bakugou wasn’t that responsive nor energetic anymore. “let’s go to sleep” you smile drowsily as you gave baby bakugou a kiss on the cheek. “goodnight baby katsuki”
you woke up to strong arms around your waist, pulling you close to their chest. you turned around to see bakugou finally back to normal. yes, you were happy but quite frankly, you already miss having a baby around.
“hey you’re back to normal” you breathe as you wiggled around his arms. bakugou opens an eye and gives you a half assed smile. “that i am. so how was taking care of baby me?” he asked, voice still raspy.
“you were adorable, katsuki” you caress his cheeks. “i think i’m ready to start a family with you” you confess, blushing at the thought. bakugou was now more awake now. “really?” his hands slowly sliding down to your hips.
“really” you confirm, throwing your hands over his neck as you give him a long, loving kiss on the lips. bakugo pulls away first and rests his forehead against yours. “well, let’s start making one” he winks as he hovers above you.
blue | sunwoo
Tumblr media
genre: angst, fluff.
warnings: swearing, mentions of alcohol.
word count: 3.7k
n/a: i was inspired by some of jaden's songs to write this fic, this is the first time i post something so be kind hehe
i lost the count of how long i was standing in the middle of my living room, watching the rain fall down through the balcony door, holding onto my cup of chamomile tea with both hands. my mind had already given all the laps around the world as i just stood there. eyes locked to the world outside. empty head, no thoughts. nothing but kim sunwoo breaking into tears when i decided to end our relationship, three months ago. every day has been painful and sorrowful like this, since then. of course sometimes i can manage to just take a deep breath and try to live a day without thinking too much about it. today is the worst day until now because it's the day we would complete five years of dating, that is if we were together. to celebrate it, we had plans of traveling to norway to see the northern lights, a dream we dreamed together since we were kids.
i met kim sunwoo way before he became the boyz' main rapper sunwoo. i could never think that i would be this crazy in love with him when we met, but we don't know nothing about fate, i guess. and me and sunwoo, we were destined to be together, made for each other just like adam and eve. we have so much in common, we share the same dreams, we want to achieve the same things. our moms were university best friends, we didn't have much contact as kids, until the day our mothers decided to put us on the same school to study together... but why would they do that? nobody ever thought we were going to fall in love with each other, but when it happened, to our families it was just perfect. however, ten years after the first day in school together and here we are, here i am completely devastated and drowned in regret, chasing for sunwoo in every place. i thought i would be strong after all these years of relationship, after all the silly fights and misunderstandings i thought i would be able to ignore everything and stay by him, for him. and still i didn't.
his fans knew everything about us, since we started dating before he debuted. i was always there, at all concerts, fanmeetings, music shows. whenever i had the time, i was there in the backstage. deobis were mostly okay with us being together, some of them had social media accounts dedicated for us, i would see everything... and by everything, i mean literally. especially the fans who would hate me and send me messages saying that they wanted me dead, that sunwoo would be better off without me and so much more. that was when i became weak and started to believe in them. that was when my life became a mess in all areas, i was going through a major crisis in my job, my father was sick, some close friends stopped talking to me for no reason at all and sunwoo was on a one-month tour in japan. i was feeling lost, lonely, and i had to do something.
it was raining just like today on that night. i was preparing another cup of tea for me, my third round that day, when he got into the apartment. sunwoo was happy that he was finally home, he would tell stories about the tour and i would just pretend i was listening to them. he could notice something was off and asked me about it. in a whisper i replied him, "i wanna break up". it got silent for long and hard seconds, until i collected courage enough to look at him. the most painful thing i've ever seen, little did i know that scene would be tattoed in my mind for months. beautiful round eyes that i adore so much locking the tears so they wouldn't fall down, he nibbled at his bottom lip before asking "are you serious?" and i took a deep breath before nodding my head as a yes. sunwoo, then, began with the questions, demanding to know where all of that came from considering that we were so happy together. i was rude in my answers, saying that i was tired of the relationship and that i needed some time for myself. moments later and sunwoo went out, slamming the door behind him after i claimed that was the end.
i've been living under this nightmare ever since, hating myself more every second because i was the one who put myself under this situation, who put sunwoo under this situation. for the past six months i had to just watch sunwoo through his work and social media, and sometimes i would know two or three things about him through chanhee, his fellow groupmate and best friend. chanhee was the only one who knew the truth about the break up and i made him swear he wouldn't tell no one, especially sunwoo, and so he did. in exchange, three months after, chanhee let me know about a mixtape sunwoo would release, mixtape which came out earlier today at midnight. i was kinda excited about this, it is his first solo work and i know how much he wanted to create something with his own touch, his own feeling. the mixtape is called 'blue' and it has only four songs, each named with every letter of the word blue. the songs tell a story on their own, so they make better sense if listened in order and all at once. in the lyrics, he talks about everything he had won as an artist and all that he lost because of that, all in a confused mix of feelings, sometimes full of anger and other times he would sound calm, and it's pretty clear that he is talking about me when he mentions a girl. since his group is now one of the most popular boy groups in korea, it didn't take long for his so waited mixtape to reach #1 in all digital platforms. i was so happy for him and so proud of his work, i even typed a text to send him but i just couldn't press the send button. instead, i expressed my happiness to chanhee, who was extremely comprehensive like always.
as expected, i spent the entire day of today listening to this goddamn mixtape. every time i would hear his painful words it was like someone was putting a knife into my heart and, oh god, why did i brought so much suffering into this boy's life? this question kept on hammering my head the entire day until i decided i wouldn't listen to it anymore. i finished my shift at work without listening to any music, the background sound would be enough to make me company. i got into the subway with my coworkers just like any other day, they would say something about going out since it was friday and i would pretend i had some other important thing to do. and now, looking at all this rain that is falling outside, i think it was the best i could have done. i look at the clock ticking on the wall and although it's not even 10pm i decide to call it a day. i turn off the tv, let the empty mug by the kitchen sink and drag myself to the bedroom, laying down on my bed, getting comfortable around my pillows and under my fluffy blanket, letting the sleep take full control of my body.
it's still dark outside when i finally managed to free myself from the dream i was having. a dream where everything was fine and i could be found inside sunwoo's loving arms again, feeling his heart beat against mine, smelling his scent, hearing his sweet nothings being whispered at me. but then, so sudden, i looked deep into his eyes and recalled that it was only a dream. i would cry so hard while he would just look at me with a smile on his face. it's been a while since i had dreams like this one. i woke up with tears falling from my eyes, body shaking from head to toes. it took me a while to calm down, when i finally did i decide to have a glass of cold water. after going to the kitchen to drink it, i find my forgotten cellphone onto the dinner table. once i unlock it, i find some unread messages from chanhee.
[00:14] choi chanhee: y/n, i'm sorry but i think it's better for me to tell you
[00:14] choi chanhee: we were at a bar, sunwoo was drunk and started talking about you, saying he had to see you and he left
[00:15] choi chanhee: anyways he is going to your place, we couldn't stop him i'm sorry
[00:15] choi chanhee: call any of us if he acts weird okay? he seems to be out of himself this days...
i let out a heavy sigh after seeing the messages were sent forty minutes ago, he will be here any time soon. to see sunwoo right now is what i want the most, surely, without any doubts. i miss him with everything that i have. but at the same time i don't feel ready enough for this, i'm not in my best moment, i don't know how i will react when i look at him; once it will be our first encounter after everything that happened between us. without noticing, i start pacing back and forth in my living room, feeling confused and nervous, anxiety growing inside me one more time that night and i feel my legs losing their strength, i sit by the couch as i try to take deep breaths in order to calm myself down again. this can't be happening, this can't be happening, this-- my thoughts are interrupted by the doorbell, followed by knocks on the door. i don't know how but i manage to get up and walk to the door with my jelly-like legs. i don't need to check before opening it. just like i had dreamed moments ago, sunwoo is right in front of me. dark circles around his beautiful eyes, the tip of the nose a bit red and he smells like he has been drinking and smoking for the past few hours. he is wearing black hoodies, black pants and black converse. all black, just the way he likes. i'm still giving no reactions, blinking at the sight of him, hoping for this to be another dream.
"hi" it’s all i can say.
"c-chanhee told me, y/n" he hiccups, taking a deep breath after "he told me everything" i look at him, trying to come up with a sentence but i just can't talk "a-about the haters and how that made you break up with me"
"sunwoo, i--" i stop in the middle of the sentence, couldn't finish because he literally jumped into my arms. a couple minutes later, i close the door behind us before readjusting his arms around me. with the head against his chest i can feel his heart bumping fast and his chin hovering above my head, and somehow it is recomforting. we stay like this for a couple moments, i stop feeling nervous and anxious as i feel his arms around me, calming me down, until his sobbing come into my ears "are you okay?" he nods, kissing the top of my head.
"i just..." i lift my head to look at him, red teary eyes looking deep into my eyes "why didn't you tell me, y/n? huh?" he holds my face with both hands "you can't do this, my love. how can you believe in what other people say when you know i'll love you forever?" he puts his forehead against mine and mumbles "please come back to me, i miss you so much"
"sunwoo..." i take a deep breath and whisper "i don't know..."
"please, my love, please... i do anything!" his breath smells like alcohol "if you want me to leave the group, i'll do that right now!"
"stop saying nonsense, you know you can't do that!" i shake off his hands away slightly and he seems pretty offended, getting some steps away and looking back at me with angry but still sad eyes, tears now running down his cheeks without permission. a muscle in his jaw twitches making him look scary, yet i'm not afraid.
"it isn't nonsense! it's the truth!" he shouts "how could you believe those words when i am madly in love with you?--" sunwoo paces around the living room, hands messing his hair as if he was having an attack.
"sunwoo, you're screaming--"
"i can't eat, i can't sleep! all i can think about is you!" he takes a deep breath “i have my own pride! you can’t do this to me--”
"it's late, please lower your voice--"
“you can’t just leave me sick like this!” i scratch my forehead at his screamed words “you can’t throw away what we had, not this way!”
“sunwoo, please--”
"why did you have to do this?” he goes on “we've been together for so long, how could you let us just fall all apart?"
"sunwoo..."
"i can't breathe when you're not with me, y/n! fuck!" he slaps the flower pot that once was on top of the table, making it fall into the ground and break into pieces.
"oh my god, kim sunwoo! stop acting like crazy! look what you did!" he stares at me, gasping. i feel my cheeks getting red at the sudden wave of mixed feelings.
"i'm s-sorry" sunwoo looks to the ground and sighs before dropping on his knees, hysterically sobbing "it hurts so much, y/n. you're my everything! i can't stay away from you anymore" he lets out while crying "now why... why would you?" i don't know what to do, but i still keep watching him while holding back some tears.
it doesn't take too much until i can't take this agonizing scene anymore. i know he is tired and confused and i'm definitely not on the mood to fight, that's why i kneel down in front of him and let my hands cup his cheeks. i lift his head, taking a good look at his face as i start to wipe his teardrops away, still fighting back my tears, feeling my heart break into tiny little pieces "why don't you take a shower so you can calm down and then if you're not too tired we talk this through, huh? what do you say?" he opens a sad smile and nods, softly leaning his head against my hand as he searches for more of my touches.
with a certain difficulty, i manage to get him back on his feet but somehow he lost his balance, hardly being able to stand on his feet, so i help him walk to the bathroom while he keeps on muttering that he is sorry for everything and that he wants me back, making this even harder. once we are in the bathroom, i help him with his clothes before pushing him under the shower, i open the faucet, letting the water fall on his head.
"ah! it's cold!" he complains in a hiss, hugging his now naked body.
"i know, but you need it" i close the bathroom shower door, hearing as he mumbles something about not having extra clothes, making me sigh at the fact that he had forgotten that he owns at least three drawers in my dresser.
i walk back to the living room and clean up the mess sunwoo made. when finished, i decide to have a couple more glasses of water to calm down. i still can't believe this is happening. i draw in a long breath as i walk to the bedroom, i open one of sunwoo's drawers, which is exactly the same way it was the day he left. i pick up some clothes for him and soon when i stop hearing the sound of the water falling, i get back into the bathroom to hand sunwoo his clothes. he shyly thanks me before i walk out the room to give him some privacy. few minutes go by until sunwoo shows up in the room, wearing the navy blue pajamas i picked for him, dragging his body to the bed, where i am sitting on.
"i'm sorry, my love. sorry i'm a mess up" he mumbles, stopping in front of me, just by the look on his eyes i can feel that he is completely exhausted, like he would sleep for an entire day if he could. i don't say much, sighing only before getting up to take his hand and sit him down on the bed. i take the towel away from his hands and start to dry off his hair. i feel his hand touch my waist lightly, his thumbs caressing my skin over the material of my shirt, touches ever so soft just like his voice when he whispered "don't be mad at me"
"i'm not" i quickly answer back.
"yes, you are. you're not even looking at me, y/n" he puts his hands on my hands, making any movement of mine stop and then i finally look into his now swollen eyes, all i can see is sadness and sorrow.
"i'm not mad, sunwoo. i just don't like seeing you like that," i try not to cry but it's barely impossible "it makes me sad and it's even worse to know that you're suffering because of me" he wraps his arms around my waist when i drop the towel to the bed, covering my face as i sob uncontrollably.
i find shelter in sunwoo's arms moments later, when he makes me sit on his lap. i curl myself up inside his embrace, snuggling my nose on his neck and feeling his fingers going back and forth on my skin, sometimes he would kiss my temper and whisper some words, reminding me that he was there with me, calming me down.
"i'm so, so sorry for all of this" i hear myself saying after long minutes went by, he holds my  face on his hands, looking deep into my crying eyes "i was weak and made us suffer this badly" he nods at my words "i was in a bad place back then, i thought you wouldn't understand and got us all stuck in this even worse nightmare" he runs his thumb across my cheeks, wiping away some teardrops "i should've talked to you but i was afraid..."
"there was nothing for you to be afraid of, my love... we would have talked this through and find a solution together" i bob my head in comprehension as i feel his fingers put a lock of my hair behind my ear, tears falling silently this time "just like we will find one now, you are not alone. i’m with you, y/n"
"i'm so happy that you are here, sunwoo..." i let out in a whisper and i can watch his lips curve into a smile "i tried to text you before but i just couldn't" he nods.
"i understand, y/n. and it's totally fine" we grin at each other “and i’m sorry i didn’t call all this time and--” he is interrupted by a sudden yawn that makes us laugh, he apologizes right after "sorry, my love, i'm just feeling tired" he blinks lazily as i cross my hand through his hair.
"no, babe, i'm sorry for putting you up to this at this time, we should've talked in the morning" sunwoo shakes his head in denial, mumbling that it's okay "let's call it a day, shall we?" he nods once again that night.
"perfect idea, my love" i smile at him.
my hand fall from his hair to his chin as i put the other one on his shoulder. i lean myself and only closed my eyes after i saw sunwoo closing his, i get closer and closer until our lips locked. our kiss is small at first, slow and soft as if we were afraid of hurting each other but soon it grew bigger and full of desire. it was like my kiss had woken him up, his hands are now everywhere; first holding my cheeks then running down my arms until he got them on my waist, pulling me closer as if it is even possible. my own hands flew to the back of his head without me even notice and i feel his ones running up and down my spine, then holding me close.
"i love you, y/n" he mumbles in between our making out session, lowering his kisses down my neck and shoulder.
"i love you too, love you  so much" i let out in a whine, panting under his caresses and this makes him smile. sunwoo stops all the kissing and leans his body backwards for a moment, taking his time to look on my face. good thing is that i can take a good look at his as well. he is gasping through his big and swollen red lips, black hair still a bit humid because i didn't make a good job at drying them, beautiful and swollen eyes that had stopped crying now stare at me with passion, making me feel like i am the prettiest woman on the planet, shirt all messy on his body and i swear this is the most beautiful scene i have seen, the dim lights from the bedside lamp only helping him to look even better.
"please don't you ever leave me again, my love" sunwoo prays in a whisper, one hand going up my cheek and i put mine above it "i don't know what i'll do without you" i lean my head to give his caressing hand a kiss.
"i'm not going anywhere" a smile dances on his lips and then he pulls me closer, making us fall on the bed and laugh together at it, before sunwoo kisses me again.
three months ago when he left, i could feel an emptiness growing inside of me, as if sunwoo had taken a piece of me along with him. but now i can assure that the hollow space i was feeling before sunwoo entered my apartment earlier today, that feeling is gone. kim sunwoo had always been that one source of happiness in my life and i don't know how i had the courage to doubt that nor how i managed to live all this time without him. again, we are like adam and eve. we are not perfect, we make mistakes, we are simply soulmates, born to be together. and i know that from now on i'm going to be fine, we are going to be happy.
Where The Lines Overlap
Word Count: 4618
For: @lexiepiper
Summary: Maddie wants to know what her son has been keeping from her and today he finally decides to tell her.
This is a sequel to Parallels! But there's enough overlap that you don't have to read it first if you don't want to.
You can read it on AO3 or down below the cut!
Maddie sat on the bus seat gently stroking her son’s hair as he slept. He fell asleep on her shoulder about ten minutes ago and she finally let her thoughts wander back to what had happened earlier.
Their conversation in the stairwell had been the most honest and eye-opening one they’ve had in a long time. She couldn’t help but smile as he unconsciously hugged her arm. She had a feeling today didn’t go exactly as he had planned either.
She had been so happy when he had asked her to be a chaperon on this trip. Even if he had been hesitant. At first, she thought he was just mentioning it because his teacher told him to, but he was genuinely excited when she said yes.
They both were happy about the prospect of spending time together and it only made her happier.
And then the elevator incident happened.
Finding out that the activation of her life’s work was the source of all her problems was a double-edged sword of her own making.
When he had panicked on the elevator she knew she had to get to the bottom of it. She didn’t want her baby boy to look that scared again.
When she asked him what was wrong he was so evasive. He tried so hard not to answer her questions, to change the subject.
Then he described how stepping inside felt wrong, that it felt like something bad would happen. He had an unexplainable sense of foreboding and that’s when she realized he didn’t know what was going on either.
He wasn’t trying to lie to her, he was just as confused as she was. So she pushed forward. She knew he had an easier time working through his thoughts if he spoke out loud, so she made sure to keep him talking.
“All that metal and the buttons and I just-” he stopped mid-sentence and a slowly dawning look of revelation crossed his features.
Then he abruptly shifted gears and went straight to the stairs. “You know what, I figured it out and I was being dumb. Let’s go!”
She was glad he figured it out but was completely clueless to what his discovery actually meant.
The way he described the elevator. He must have been reminded of something. Something similar to an elevator scared him in the past. Something big enough for him to get inside. Something metal. Mechanical even, if it had buttons.
But what could it be?
Certainly, she would know of something in his life that was that important. That monumental.
Monumental?
Their work was metal. It had buttons.
The only thing big enough for him to fit inside was…
No.
It couldn't be.
Could it?
Her breath caught in her throat at the thought. She really hoped that wasn’t it. She followed after her son and caught him on the landing.
“Is this about your accident?” she asked and really hoped she was wrong.
He stopped dead. She wasn’t even sure he was breathing.
He just stood there, his foot suspended above the next step. One wrong move and he’d fall.
She couldn’t stand it. She had to speak again, “It is, isn’t it?”
After what felt like an eternity he finally placed his foot back onto the landing. His hand slid off the railing as he spoke, “It’s pretty dumb, isn’t it? They aren’t that similar but I guess it’s close enough.”
Her heart broke with the sound of his defeat and his admission. She had never wanted her work to hurt her son. She never wanted it to hurt anyone. She and Jack spent so long making sure their technology wouldn’t hurt humans. Spent so many hours on countless prototypes to make sure no one would be hurt.
Especially after they had hurt Vlad.
After a few moments Danny continued without being prompted, “They’re both big metal things you can stand inside. Both mechanical and,” he chuckled a little before continuing, “they both take you places.”
“And the button?”
“Yeah.” He turned to face her with an expression she couldn’t quite place. “Both have a button on the inside.”
Button? On the inside?
That couldn’t be right.
But he wasn’t lying.
She may not always know why he lies, or know what the full truth is when he does, but she always knows when he lies to her. He has a tell.
He’d be a terrible poker player.
“On the inside? You,” she hesitated as she tried to find the words, tried to find some other explanation. “You never said you went inside.”
“You never asked.”
She couldn’t hide the hurt at his accusation.
He noticed and immediately tried to fix it, “Not that you should have needed to! I should have told you sooner. I just,” he looked away, “I just didn’t know how to tell you. I tried, but things kept getting in the way. I kept getting interrupted. And then one day I just gave up. I thought it would be better if you didn’t know. And then I was worried that” he bit his lip, “I was worried you wouldn’t like me anymore if you knew.”
Why would he think that? “Why wouldn’t I like you?”
“Because I’m different.”
She walked over to him, closed the distance, and lifted his face to look at her. “I don’t know how you survived, but clearly you did.” she placed her other hand on his shoulder both for comfort and to regain his full attention, “I’m sorry for whatever I did that led to your distrust in me.”
“Mom,” he started but she shook her head.
“No, I can’t have you keep blaming yourself for this. This rift between us.” she pulled him into a hug and was so relieved when he relaxed into it.
With the way he was talking, she was afraid he would have stiffened or even straight-up rejected her.
She knew they had more to talk about but this wasn’t the place for such conversations, “Come on, let’s get back to the others before they send a search party.”
“More like before Lancer starts filling out my next detention slip,” he muttered to himself with a smirk.
She frowned but decided to let him think that she hadn’t heard him. Clearly, they had a lot to talk about.
==============================================
Once they had arrived home Maddie was determined to find out what really happened to Danny. To get to the bottom of what he meant by being different.
It turns out he had a similar plan, “Hey, I know we need to talk about what happened today,” he started as he fidgeted in place, “but could you do me a favor first?”
“Of course.”
“Could you put all the anti-ghost stuff in the basement?” his question was strained and desperate. Almost like asking was a bad thing.
Then she realized that maybe this was why he was so secretive and avoidant. It wasn’t like she didn’t know how their inventions tended to pick him up. How all the trackers refused to locate anything other than him.
She just didn’t think that the weapons worked on him too. It hadn’t even crossed her mind to worry about that.
How could she be so blind?
“Okay.”
She’d make sure to power down the security defense system too.
Danny gave her a nervous smile, “Cool. I’m gonna go get something from upstairs. Meet you in the living room?”
Once she agreed he took off up the stairs. She immediately did a very thorough sweep of the entire living room and collected any and all anti-ghost anything and took it downstairs.
“Hey-ya Madds! You two have fun on the field trip?” Jack asked as he looked up from his work, “Uh, what’s with all the-?” he stopped mid-sentence as something caught his eye. “Hey isn’t that the ecto-gun that I keep in the couch?”
“Yes,” she replied simply as she put everything onto the floor and started to take all her anti-ghost equipment from her person. It wasn’t much, but it was definitely more than nothing.
“Are you okay?” he asked sitting down his screwdriver as he watched her place the final piece onto the pile.
“Danny wants to tell us something. It involves his accident with the portal and he asked me to come unarmed.” she looked up from the equipment, “could you disable the security system?”
Jack was hesitant but complied all the same. They knew each other well enough that if she was asking him to do something like that it wasn’t without reason.
He paused for a second after he deactivated the system. “Should I just change? It’d be easier than taking everything out.”
“Yeah, there should be some clean clothes for you in the laundry room still if you haven’t taken them up yet.”
He chuckled nervously because that was something she had asked him to do while she was out today and of course he forgot all about it. That was probably why he was down here.
He must have come down to do the simple chore and had gotten distracted before he even made it to the laundry room.
She smiled, at least this was still the same.
==============================================
Maddie and Jack sat on the couch and waited. Danny stood in front of them looking very much like a kid who was nervous to give a class presentation.
Only they were his parents.
Jazz sat in the armchair nearest Danny and kept giving him encouraging looks.
Maddie wasn’t sure if that meant she knew what Danny was about to tell them or if that was just her being happy that Danny wasn’t going to be lying anymore. That he was opening up and trusting the people closest to him. Honestly, it could very well be both.
“So, um, I, uh,” Danny couldn’t keep eye contact with anyone in the room as he stammered his way through his unfinished sentence. He sighed with his eyes closed before turning to Jazz, “Why is this so hard?”
“Well you’ve been keeping this a secret for a while now,” Jazz started softly.
“Yeah, but I think she kinda knows?” he turned to Maddie, “Right?”
“I’m not sure I know everything dear.”
Danny sighed, “Well this is just great. Usually, I get caught and then they assume it was the portal, but now I’ve started backward.”
“What do you mean backward?” Jazz asked looking just as confused as Maddie felt.
“You saw me, and just knew what happened. Like you’ve never asked for the details, but you get it right?”
Jazz nodded hesitantly more likely to keep Danny on his train of thought than with any actual understanding as to what he was rambling about.
“Well, Mom knows about the accident but not what it did. You on the other hand are the opposite.”
“Why don’t you start at the beginning?” Jazz suggested.
Danny nodded and took a breath to compose himself, “Okay so when you guys first built the portal and it didn’t work, I felt bad. I didn’t think it was fair that something you’ve been working on since forever just didn’t work. And when you guys left it, I don’t know, it was so much worse.”
Jack’s hand slipped into Maddie’s as he gave a reassuring squeeze. It helped distract from the pull on her heartstrings.
“Well, one day I thought I’d take a look. You know, just take a peek to see what it was like. I put on the suit you made me. The black and white one. It fit like a glove.” he smiled fondly at the thought.
Maddie had noticed after his accident the suit disappeared. She didn’t think to connect the two until now.
“It was really dark in there.” he started and his gaze shifted to stare at the wall, or maybe it was an invisible point just in front of it. “I put my hand against the wall for support.” he held his left hand out to his side pantomiming the event and his gaze became more unfocused as he continued, “Felt every bolt and seam as I walked further in.” Danny’s breathing started to come in quicker shallow bursts, “It was so dark. So cold. My boot hit something. I stumbled. I leaned into the wall for support. Something clicked.”
“The button.” Maddie breathed the words out so softly she hardly heard them herself.
Danny just nodded and she realized that Danny’s eyes weren’t vacant and unfocused, they were misty.
“And then you ran out of there?” Jack added, “Just in time? Like an action hero?”
Danny’s lips trembled and he shook his head.
No?
He didn’t make it out? But how?
She had so many questions but she just wanted to hold him in her arms. She wanted to tell him he was safe now, that it was all over.
He squeezed his eyes shut as he shook his head, “I’m sorry. I can’t do this.” He backed away so smoothly it was like he was gliding on ice.
Jazz was instantly at Danny’s side and either she didn’t notice Danny’s odd movements or didn’t care.
“Danny it’s okay. You’re okay. Just breathe.” Jazz reached out to touch his shoulder but she missed?
“No!” he stumbled backward, tripped, and landed in a sitting position, “Not again. Not again.” He clutched his hair and started rocking back and forth.
Jack gasped, “Shell Shock.”
That was right, Jack’s grandfather was a WWI veteran. He’d seen it first hand as a boy.
Jack knelt down in front of Danny but kept his distance. “Danny? Hey buddy can you hear me? Just nod if you can.”
Danny nodded quickly, still hyperventilating and rocking on his heels.
“You’re having a flashback. It’s okay. You’re safe.”
Danny just whimpered and squeezed his eyes even tighter.
Maddie could see the shine of his tears from her spot on the couch. She hated being so far away but she didn’t want to crowd him either. She walked over to Jazz instead and took her to the other side of the chair her daughter had previously occupied to give Danny and Jack more space.
“I know it’s scary buddy. You think you can try and breathe with me?”
“Maybe?”
“Okay let’s give it a try,” Jack said patiently. “Just repeat after me okay? Take one big breath in,” he started before loudly taking in a breath.
Danny did his best to mimic it. It shuddered and wasn’t nearly enough, but he was obviously trying.
Jack let his breath out, “That’s it. Let’s try it again.”
And they did. Over and over until Danny stopped rocking. Until he could take deep full breaths again. Until he opened his eyes.
The green of his eyes reflected off his tearstained face.
Maddie couldn’t stop her gasp in surprise and it caught Danny’s attention.
Those bright green eyes. So full of light and so eerily familiar.
Those weren’t Danny’s eyes.
Maddie took a half step back, but Jazz put a hand on her shoulder and whispered in her ear, “This is what he meant by being different, mom. Please don’t be afraid of him. He really needs your support right now.”
Maddie couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Did this mean Jazz did know? Did she know and not tell them?
Why did both her children think this was something they should hide?
Danny blinked and his eyes went back to their normal blue. “Mom?”
Maybe he hadn’t noticed?
“Are you feeling better, Honey?” she asked trying to keep her voice steady.
He nodded and crossed his legs, “Sorry about that. I’ve never freaked out like that before.”
“You don’t have to apologize, bud.” Jack slid his hand across the carpet and hovered just above Danny’s knee, waiting for permission. When Danny didn’t jerk away Jack placed his hand down, “I’m just glad I knew how to help you.”
Danny thought for a moment before looking to Jack, “How did you know?”
“I’ve seen what Shell Shock does to folks. I learned how to help.”
“Dad, it’s not called Shell Shock anymore.” Jazz corrected immediately.
“Oh really? What’s it called now?” Jack asked always curious to learn new things. And always happy to indulge his daughter’s need to know everything.
“PTSD. It stands for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.” Jazz then toed the carpet self-consciously, “and if I’m remembering what I read correctly, you did everything right, Dad.”
“Well of course I did! This Fenton is a Jack of All Trades!”
Danny chuckled, “Jack of all trades? You really are living up to your name, huh?”
It took about a second for that to click but once it did Jack’s hearty laughter filled the room.
Maddie walked over and held her hand out for Danny, he took it graciously. She held his gaze for a moment. Searching those ocean blue depths for that toxic green.
She must have stared too long because Danny started making a face, “Mom? What are you looking for?”
She sighed and figured they may as well get this over with. “You said the portal did something to you. What did you mean by that?”
Danny looked away, his eyes darting back in forth as he thought before he finally closed his eyes with a sigh. “I got ghost powers.”
“Ghost powers?” That didn’t make any sense. What did that even mean? Ghosts didn’t have powers, they just interacted with the physical world differently than humans or any living thing could.
Which to a teenager, that could seem like superpowers.
“Do you remember when everybody at school got bitten by those ghost mosquitoes and had to be quarantined?”
“Ghost mosquitoes?”
“Did you not-?” Danny stopped midquestion and shook his head, “Doesn’t matter. Anyway, everybody got one ghost power. Sam could float, but she could only go up. Paulina had a ghost sense, which is odd because I’ve never seen anyone else do it…” he seemed to get lost in thought so Jazz pipped up.
“I was just a head in a jar. My whole body just lost its hold on being corporeal. It was super weird.”
“Yeah! Well now just imagine all of that being things I can do! Minus the no body thing. I don’t know that one.”
That was so much to unpack and she had a feeling this was just the tip of the iceberg.
“Ghost sense?” Jack asked first, taking his seat back on the couch.
“Yeah, whenever there’s a ghost nearby I get this cold chill, and my breath fogs up. Kind of like when it’s really cold outside, but the temperature doesn't matter.”
“Is that why you’re always running away suddenly?” she had noticed a correlation between his sudden alertness and occasional shivering to his abrupt exits.
He rubbed the back of his neck, his trademark nervous habit, “Yeah.”
“You’ve got a built-in ghost tracker? Why didn’t you tell us sooner? That would have made catching the spooks so much easier!” Jack’s grin grew with each sentence and normally Maddie would find it contagious.
This time she kept her eyes on her son.
She watched as his shoulders hunched as he curled in on himself. How he coward away from Jack’s words. How he had pulled away from her too.
“Jack honey, hold on a minute. Why don’t we listen to the rest of what Danny has to say before we talk business.”
Jack deflated a little, but when he saw Danny’s worried look he caught on, “Oh, right. Sorry, son. Didn’t mean to steamroll you there.”
“It’s okay. I know what it’s like to get excited about stuff.”
Maddie smiled and couldn’t believe how grown up he was. Empathizing with others? She was so proud of him.
Danny sighed, “Maybe this would just be easier if I showed you.”
“Showed us?” Maddie asked and looked to Jack to see if he had any idea what that could mean.
Her husband didn’t appear to have any theories.
“You might want to sit down for this, mom.”
She wasn’t sure why, but she did what he suggested. Was what he was about to show them going to be that alarming? She certainly hoped it didn’t hurt him to do this. She’d hate for this reveal to lead to another traumatic event for him.
The first was one too many.
He took a breath to center himself. He firmly placed each foot hip-width apart. His fist pulled up with his elbows at a rough 45-degree angle. He looked like he was ready to start a fight.
She had never seen him pose like this. It seemed so foreign. Just like when his eyes were green.
Just how much did she not know about her own son?
He took another big breath. Held it. Then immediately deflated, arms dropped to his sides as he turned to his sister. “I can’t do this. Why did I think this was a good idea?” he made an x with his arms and repeatedly tapped his wrists together, “Reveal party canceled!” He dropped his arms and started pacing, “I’d say let’s all just go home but we’re already here!”
“Danny, Danny, hold on.” Jazz tried to mirror his pacing but gave up and just grabbed his arm, “You can do this.”
He sighed again and stopped moving, “I’m not so sure.”
“Are you still worried about how they’ll react?”
He nodded but couldn’t meet her eyes.
“Well, I think it’s going to be okay. You want to know why?”
He just looked up at her and Maddie couldn’t help to be just as curious.
“Because you asked mom to put the weapons away and she did. The whole living room is clear too.”
He turned to look at her, “really?” he asked both out of curiosity and also a hint of doubt.
“Yes. I’d dismantle everything we’ve ever built if it made you safer.” Maddie confessed, trying to bleed every inch of honesty and her fierce need to protect him.
“You mean it?” his eyes searching hers for any hint of dishonesty any sign that this was just hyperbole.
“I promise.” and she meant it. Even if it meant changing careers after an over twenty-year investment, she’d do it.
“Okay,” he said with the softest smile.
He gave Jazz one final look, to which she gave an encouraging nod, before taking another steadying breath.
“Going ghost.”
Before Maddie could begin to decipher what that could mean a bright ball of light appeared in Danny’s abdomen.
She felt her jaw slowly drop as the light grew then turned into twin rings that travel across his body. Everywhere the light passed Danny changed.
His loose-fitting hoodie and jeans were replaced with a tight formfitting jumpsuit. A very familiar jumpsuit.
The color of his eyes changed from blue to green and his hair lost its pigment completely, leaving it stark white.
In the place where Danny had just been standing, now stood, or actually floated, the ghost boy she’d spent the better part of a year trying to catch.
“Ta-da, I’m Danny Phantom,” he said with a nervous chuckle.
She couldn’t find the words. Her son, her sweet little boy was the same as the overpowered creature that flew about the city fighting the other monsters for fun?
But then maybe it wasn’t for fun. He always said he was trying to help.
He was trying to help just like he was with the portal.
God, how did she miss the similarities? He looked the same. “How did I not see it before?” she asked herself not realizing she had spoken out loud.
Danny shrugged, “It’s not like being half-ghost is super common.” He added, “And I try not to get too close to people who shot at me if I can help it.”
Maddie gasped and covered her mouth. She had been hunting her own son. And he said that so nonchalantly, as if it was okay?
She got up from the couch and pulled him into a hug, “I’m so sorry.”
“Mom, it’s okay. You didn’t know.”
“No. It’s not okay. I should have known. You’re my son. I see you every day! How did I not see you?” it was so jarring to hold him and have him be at eye level with her. It was even weirder to see that he was still breathing, despite being a ghost that was currently defying gravity. He gently bopped like a buoy in calm waters, his hair fluttered slightly in an ethereal breeze she couldn’t feel.
She pushed back his hair, so much softer in this form, and placed a kiss on his forehead. He was so cold and it only made her want to hug him tighter.
Jack came up beside her, wrapping one arm around her and the other around Danny, “I think Danny’s on the right track. We should let bygones be bygones.”
“But Jack,” Maddie started as she turned to her husband. She didn’t think it was possible to just let this drop. There was so much they needed to discuss. So much to understand about just how things affected Danny and what exactly being half-ghost even meant.
“Now, now, Maddie, it’s been a long day. I’m tired. You’re tired. Danny’s probably very tired. Why don’t I order some pizzas, the kids can pick out a movie or two and we can just sit in the living room and enjoy each other’s company.”
“But?” She still had so many questions.
“Maddie, Sweetheart, Darling, Light of my life, I love you, but this can wait.” When she opened her mouth to counter he pushed on, “It can wait. We have the whole rest of our lives to find the answers. We don’t need to do it all tonight.”
After a moment of contemplation, she finally relented. He was right after all. There was no need to do everything now. They both had a habit of putting the cart before the horse and they always made sure to help each other from doing so. “Pizza sounds good.”
Jack pulled them into a quick squeeze before releasing them and making a beeline to the phone, “Alright Fenton’s what are we getting tonight?”
“Hawaiian but with mushrooms and extra olives!” Danny cheered as he shifted back into his human appearance and dropped to the floor with a soft thump.
“Ew, Danny that’s disgusting. Can you order my usual? The small spinach and garlic.”
“Alright one large Hawaiian with mushrooms and extra olives, did you want black or green olive?”
“Black. Can we get garlic bread too? I’m really hungry.”
Maddie sighed, of course, he was hungry. He barely ate his lunch because it was after the whole elevator situation. He must have been so anxious about keeping his secret for so long. She hoped that wasn’t the reason he was so skinny.
“Don’t just fill up on bread!” Jazz scolded.
“But it’s so good!” Danny protested playfully as he looked through the family movie collection.
“How about we get a salad to share,” Maddie suggested, finding it easier to just go with the flow and set all her worry and doubts aside as Jack had suggested.
“Great plan Mads,” Jack said as he dialed the pizza place’s phone number.
Maddie walked into the kitchen to fetch paper plates and cups. For as unbelievable as the day turned out to be, she couldn’t be happier.
She walked back into the kitchen and caught Danny silently consider something before shrugging and floating upward so he could see the topmost shelf better.
She was glad he was being honest with them now, but that casual display of power, while he looked so human, was certainly going to take some getting used to.
Song: Miss Benny - Rendezvous
Lucas sits alone at the table, an empty dinner plate in front of him, when he hears the door open and footsteps make their way down the hall. He stands up and is in the process of dumping his plate in the sink when his father comes into the kitchen. He smiles tiredly at Lucas as he deposits his keys on the counter, shrugging off his blazer and laying it over the back of a chair. “Hey, kiddo, sorry I’m late.”
Lucas bristles, but doesn’t pause in his process of turning the tap on and beginning to rinse off his dishes. He purses his lips and says, “I left your food in the oven to keep it warm but I don’t think that works for almost two hours, so you should probably reheat it.”
Lucas wouldn’t consider himself rude. He can maintain a quiet anger, hold onto a grudge, be relatively ruthless if the situation requires it, but he isn’t rude. For the majority of people he meets, he can portray a simple politeness, can keep himself in check. He considers himself relatively patient. He can bide his time and hold his tongue.
Except for when it comes to Hugo Van Der Heijden.
When it comes to his father, Lucas has very little patience, and is even worse at holding his tongue.
He rolls his eyes now as the man thanks him, grateful that he isn’t facing him, and scrubs harder at the plate in his hands. Hugo moves his dinner from the oven to the microwave as Lucas sets his plate aside and shakes out his hands, wiping them with a towel before heading for the door.
His dad calling his name stops him, and he sends a tired glance to the ceiling before turning around. Hugo has sat himself at the table. His expression is a complicated mix of exhaustion and apology as he gestures at the chair across from him. “Really, Lucas, I’m sorry I’m late. I know I promised we’d have dinner today. Can you just sit down with me for, five minutes? Tell me what school is like?”
Lucas considers him for a moment, then lets out a breath through his nose. He sits at the table and watches his dad smile.
“So, how have you been doing? Have you made any friends yet?”
Lucas swallows. He thinks of all the time he’s spent under that one oak tree in a quiet corner of the yard to eat his lunch, or the back table in the library, or the basement bathrooms. He’s spoken to a few people in his classes, to ask about the topics he’d missed and take a few photos of notes to copy. A few people have struck up conversations with him in the minutes before a class starts, or as they stand at their locker a few columns away from Lucas. Lucas has learnt a few faces and fewer names but he hasn’t really made any friends.
“I’m still getting to know people,” he says simply.
His dad nods, hopping up to collect his plate when the microwave beeps. Lucas passes him the knife and fork he’d left out earlier and is rewarded with another smile and thanks. “And, do you like any of these people? Any pretty girls in your classes?”
Lucas bristles again. He can’t help it. It doesn’t matter that it isn’t his dad’s fault, that he just doesn’t know. But it shouldn’t matter. He shouldn’t assume. Lucas is tired of everyone assuming. He’s tired of everything in his life being decided for him. He’s tired of his dad being at the center of it. “No, everyone’s hideous, I have no idea why you brought me here.”
Hugo huffs tiredly. “Okay, point taken, we don’t talk about crushes. What are your teachers like, then?”
“They’re fine. They teach.”
“And you’re finding your studies okay? You haven’t been left behind in anything?”
“They’re fine.”
Hugo sighs and sets his utensils down, rubbing a hand over his face. Lucas tenses his shoulders in preparation for the lecture he’s surely about to get. “I know it’s not ideal, Lucas. I understand that you’re probably upset with me. But eventually you’ll understand I’m only trying to do what’s best.”
Lucas can’t bite back his scoff. “So leaving Mom, dragging me away from all my friends, making me move school after I’ve just started my last year, that’s what’s best?”
“What else would you have wanted me to do, Lucas? You know your mother isn’t in a position to take care of you right now.”
“I can take care of myself.”
“Son, you’re seventeen.”
“So? You can be mature at seventeen. What do I have to do? Cook, clean up, do the washing. Everything that I do here anyway. I could’ve moved in with Liv and Jayden. One of their roommates moved out to go to college anyway.”
Hugo gives another tired huff, shaking his head. “You want to convince me you’re mature enough to take care of yourself by acting out and suggesting moving in with Jayden?”
“Acting out? How am I acting out?” Lucas bursts, sitting up in his seat. “I get up and I go to school and I come home and make your fucking dinner. How would you even know if I was acting out when you’re never even here? How is it any different to what it’d be like if you’d just let me stay with Mom?”
“If you were staying with your mother right now, you really would drive her crazy,” Hugo snaps back.
Lucas freezes.
They’ve had this argument so many times. They’ve never taken it there before.
Hugo seems to instantly regret his words, dropping his hand to reach across the table, towards Lucas. Lucas flinches away from him, pushing his chair back. “Luc,” his dad says gently, “I didn’t mean—“
“I know what you meant,” Lucas cuts him off. “And if I’m so much of a problem for you, I really don’t understand why you want me here.”
His father looks pained. “Lucas, stop. Let’s talk about this properly.”
“I think we’ve talked enough.” Lucas pushes himself to his feet and is surprised at how unsteady he feels. He hadn’t realised his hands were shaking. He curls them into fists in an attempt to stop their trembles and alleviate some of the pressure in his chest. Maybe if he applies pressure somewhere else, it won’t feel so overwhelming. It won’t make him feel like he’s drowning.
“Son, sit down. If you want to prove you’re mature then—“
“Fuck you,” Lucas spits. “Just—enough. I hate you for leaving her. I hate you for taking me with you. I hate you.”
Hugo slumps. “Lucas—“
Lucas doesn’t wait around to hear anymore. He rushes down the hallway to his room and slams and locks the door behind him. He leans against it, banging his head lightly back against the wood as he squeezes his eyes shut. He sucks in a breath and it comes out ragged, choked with emotion and wet with held-back tears. He digs the heels of his hands into his eyes and tries to bring his breathing under control, doing the exercises Liv had taught him long ago. In for four, hold for four, out for four. Your mind is a stream. Set your unwanted thoughts on the leaves drifting past. Let them go. Keep moving on.
It doesn’t do much, at least in regards to his thoughts. There are too many of them to sort through and watch pass, all unwanted, all overwhelming. His breathing is still uneven. He sits on the floor in front of his bed and drops his head between his knees, locking his hands behind it.
He focuses on the breathing part of his mantra until his lungs are cooperating again, then lifts his head enough to hide his face in his hands. He’s horrified to realise the tops of his cheeks are wet, where a few tears have slipped out unnoticed. He knows it’s just the anxiety, the lack of breath, that forced them out, but there’s nothing he hates more than crying.
He quickly wipes the dampness away as he tries to sort himself out. He wants to believe his father didn’t mean it like that, wasn’t placing Lucas as responsible for any of it, but it’s difficult. It’s always been a niggling thought in his mind, that automatic, self-centered response that let him believe in his childhood years that his mother’s illness was somehow his fault. It’s hard not to think of it as a possibility, when it only seemed to manifest a few years after he was born and escalated in his early teens.
Regardless of whether he should feel any guilt or not, he’s always done his best to make things easier, for her. He’s always tried to make sure she didn’t have to worry about him.
His dad had always been the one to tell him to give himself a break, to loosen up a bit and let himself go. Adamant that his mother wasn’t Lucas’s responsibility. That she was a fully grown adult, capable of taking care of herself, with a fully dedicated husband to be there when she couldn’t.
Only, Hugo turned out to be the one to not want the responsibility. To be overwhelmed. To abandon.
Even now, Lucas thinks he should have fought more. That if he’d just been more persistent, he wouldn’t have been forced to leave. He could have stayed and taken care of her. Or at least, he could be there to make sure she wasn’t alone.
Only, that wasn’t even his plan. He’d wanted to take it as the perfect excuse to move into the flatshare with his friends. His thoughts had been solely focused on himself, and what he would do if he was ripped away from his home and his school and his friends. What he would do if he had to stay and could barely buy himself food, and if he would be mocked now for being the kid with the crazy mother.
He’d hated himself for the thought then, and he’s constantly trying to make up for it now. It’s something Kes had always told him. That your first thought is only an automatic response—what you’ve been doctored to think. It’s the thought that comes after that matters—the realisation that the initial reaction was wrong, once you’ve had a chance to form your own opinion. Lucas had appreciated it the first time Kes told him that. He had, and still has, many of those ingrained thought processes. The idea that it’s simply an impulse reaction makes him feel like less of a bad person. He’s only bad initially because of society’s influence. It makes sense that he’d looked at his mother in the middle of her episode and thought ‘crazy’. It’s what he’d been programmed to think. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t love her. It doesn’t mean he’s a bad son. It doesn’t mean it was fair for him to be taken away.
It isn’t fair. He doesn’t deserve it. He doesn’t.
Does he?
He thinks about calling Kes, now. Now that his chest no longer feels trapped in a vice grip, now that his mind has mostly stopped racing, now that his stomach isn’t heaving. He thinks calling Kes might actually make him feel worse. Not only will it remind him of how much he misses him, it’ll drive him crazy with the support. Because Kes will always support him and comfort him and right now, Lucas wants it too much and isn’t deserving enough.
Besides, it’s a Friday evening. Night, really, by this stage. Kes is probably out having fun. With Jayden, maybe, or Isa, or a whole group. He isn’t going to want to babysit Lucas. Lucas doesn’t want to ruin his night.
It’s a Friday night. He should be out having fun. Partying. With friends he doesn’t have.
He slips his phone out of his pocket and opens Instagram, navigating to his messages. He taps on one of his older conversations, looking at the message he got on Wednesday afternoon.
_amberxje: Hey Lucas, it’s Amber! I was trying to find you at school but I left it too late before class and you must have went home straight away. But there’s a party on Friday night that I wanted to invite you to. It’s technically a college party, but we’re very close to those hosting it, and I think it’d be lovely if you come! It’s a great way to meet new people :)
It was more than probably necessary, but maybe less than Lucas had expected. Amber had seemed like a talkative girl. While Lucas doesn’t really do talkative, he was glad of it that first day and he’s glad of it now. Amber has already sent him the address.
He’ll wait until his dad disappears to his room, usually sometime after nine, and then he’ll quietly head out.
A party might just be the best way to take his mind off of things.
