The Hashira at the Gym
I just started going to the gym with a friend and now I have a brainworm about the Hashira and what they'd be like at the gym.
Tengen:
Tengen is a gym influencer. He's also the kind of guy who wears the tightest shirt possible every time he goes, and he spends just as much time working out as he does flexing in the mirror and taking selfies with other people. People don't mind though, because the amount of weight he can bench press is impressive. He's almost constantly on the ab machines and doing weights. This man lives off pre-workout and spends all his extra time at the gym. His girlfriends also workout, but mainly are into Pilates.
Rengoku:
This man wears muscle shirts but not because he wants to show off, just because they were on sale when he was getting gym clothes. He never skips leg day. Never. This man's thighs are sturdier than tree trunks. He could crush a watermelon between them without a second thought. Everyone loves him, even if he's a little loud. He drinks protein shakes every day, and will bring Senjuro to the gym sometimes.
Giyu:
He pretty much exclusively does treadmills and stair-steppers, but he also will use dumbbells. He only wears hoodies and basketball shorts. Headphones are in 100% of the time. Will stare at people until they are off the machine he's waiting for. Doesn't drink protein shakes, but will drink preworkout. The caffeine does not seem to affect him in the slightest.
Gyoumei:
He likes the treadmills for walking. They're meditative for him. He teaches yoga, but also does weightlifting. He can both bench-press and squat more than anyone in the gym. He has several of the same exact tracksuit for working out. Has never tried pre-workout and says he never will. He's a vegetarian and only drinks vegan protein shakes if he does drink them at all.
Shinobu:
She's into calisthenics and pilates, but mainly does a lot of running, especially on inclines. She can do the least amount of weights out of all the Hashira, but she makes up for it with endurance and speed. If she sees Giyu at the gym, she'll get on a machine next to him and make sure that she's on it longer than he is, on a harder setting. Giyu doesn't notice most of the time because he's wearing headphones, but occasionally he will and thinks that Shinobu is just being friendly and that she's trying to be his gym buddy. She is not. She's being passive aggressive.
Mitsuri:
Not an influencer, but she always wears cute matching sets in pink, green, black, or white and people assume she is. Everyone at the gym loves her. Mitsuri has a pink water bottle decorated with sakura stickers. She always has snacks on her; protein bars, protein mixes, fruit, and other goodies. She does pilates, yoga, and weightlifting (and gymnastics and ballet). Misturi surprises a lot of the new gym goers with her strength. She is regularly asked to crush watermelons between her thighs, and she loves doing it.
Obanai:
He goes to the gym only because his crush goes. He'll pick up dumbbells here and there, but mainly works out on the stair-steppers and bikes. His clothing of choice is a hoodie and joggers. Always wears a mask no matter the season or if he's sick. This man wipes down every machine and weight before and after he touches it. He has seen Misturi break open watermelons with her thighs no less than six times. He is smitten.
Sanemi:
This man works out at their weirdest hours and is never consistent with when he shows up but does appear almost every day. He does weights and calisthenics, and despite never touching pre-workout, he has incredible stamina. Sanemi wears tank tops to workout in, and half the time they're cut into v-necks because he "can't stand feeling like he's being suffocated". He's brought his brother a few times, but mostly works out alone. He has gotten in trouble for fighting a dude who was recording a girl doing squats without her knowledge.
Muichiro:
This boy does yoga and ellipticals, and not much else. He'll bike occasionally, but he only comes to the gym because his family has a gym pass and he likes to watch shows with his headphones in while he's walking or biking. Wears a t-shirt and basketball shorts, and sneakers with mismatched ankle socks. Doesn't take anything seriously, but enjoys how protein shakes taste.

If I didn't have good parents for the holidays, I would absolutely participate in the Rent-A-Queer market.
Options include:
Manic Pixie Dream Elf: I will arrive in a galaxy-printed cloak with elf ears and a sword. I know entirely too much about Lord of the Rings and can entertain your cousins with the ley of Beren and Luthien from memory. Egregious glittery eyeshadow is $10.
Dirtbag: I'll cuss my ex all night until it's painfully clear that I'm obsessed with them. I'll whisper obscenities to you and slap your butt when you get up from the table. Hitting on other relatives is $20 per relative.
Punk: Will wear all black with lots of chains and enormous headphones. Will tell your little cousin what ACAB stands for. Will sulk menacingly in a corner so you can sit on your phone next to me. Fake piercings $10, temporary tattoos $20, hair dye $40.
Punk Poser: Do you share blood with a pretentious gatekeep-y punk? I'll wear safety-pinned jeans and a Fall Out Boy shirt. I will corner them and ramble about how I only like MCR's new stuff and TX2. Clip-on furry tail is $15.
Religious Leftist: Want someone who knows their Bible cover to cover? Who offers to say grace? Who prays openly for the racists, sexists, homophobes, transphobes, Republicans, and capitalists to find the light of Jesus' love? Who has a prepackaged rant on the Image of God to explain why they don't shave? I'll do this job for free.
Dom: This requires extensive pre-negotiation. However, whether you want to scandalize your family with lesbian affection, T4T affection, femboy x Butch affection, or simply being "straight" in an "incorrect" way, I will take any action agreed upon to make it clear that I own you. And you like it.
Social Justice Warrior: Is your family racist? Are you the only vegan in the room? Do you want another trans person? Is your aunt weird about unions or minimum wage? I am 240 lbs of white nonbinary weightlifter who is passionate about a cause of your choice. Prices vary based on whether your relatives fight with passive-aggression, actual arguments, or punches.
Build-a-Butch: This is my most flexible package. Tailor to annoy your family! Options include Trucker Butch (has opinions about every company and dock layout in the area), Sports Butch (roots for the opposite football team), Hunter Butch (will lie through my teeth about my rifle jamming when I had a 12-point buck in my sight), Business Butch (uses degree to dunk on crypto and Elon Musk), and Redneck Butch (tells your uncle directly that his moonshine tastes like crap).
Normal Partner: Have you been single just a little too long, and Nana is just a little too invested? I'll be so sweet and considerate that everyone will approve. There will be a bonus fee if you actually fall in love with me. I will refund it in cash and cry happy tears during our wedding vows.

Roughly a year later from ED recovery
Trigger warning ED
I had this idea of what I needed to be to please other people
And that’s been my life since I was 12.
I would eat normal portion sizes, not binge, but then still purge. And I felt morbidly proud of myself for it. Figuring out how to stick a toothbrush down my throat to vomit.
Honestly that might contribute to my anxiety around throwing up.
I mean I feel nauseous and start having a panic attack which inevitably makes me throw up anyway.
Eating an egg white and a couple berries for breakfast isn’t healthy.
Drinking protein shakes and sparkling water to hide hunger ques isn’t healthy.
Working out multiple times a day and doing so much cardio I was crying isn’t healthy.
Getting weird alternatives when you want food because it’s ’healthier’. The food is healthier than the 50 cent pasta. Edamame pasta is healthier. Zucchini noodles are healthier. Banza chickpea pasta is healthier (I actually like Banza but it falls apart if it gets put in the fridge)
Halo top ice cream is kind of jsut gross. It was really powedery when k got it last.
I seen some people not know how to eat normal amount of ice cream after eating pint fulls of halo top.
I couldn’t stomach more than a couple bites of halo top though.
And hated ice cream because kf it.
I don’t like bread, and I’m allergic to gluten anyway, but lite bread literally made me hate bread.
If all you’re eating is unseasoned Brussel sprouts and tofu, you’re gonna get bored.
I couldn’t bring myself to make actual meals because going over 700 calories made me sick.
So I jsut stopped eating instead.
Because it food had to be gross I jsut didn’t want it.
I’m not sure when it fully changed, and my mindset was finally recovered. But sometime in the last year I went from 100% to 25% terrified of food.
I was weighing myself every single morning. And cuz I was drinking water, working out, and yk. Not eating because it was gross. Lost roughly 7 pounds the first week, 10 pounds the next.
I did gain some of the weight I lost back after eating normal amounts and getting back to weight lifting.
Last June I cried and gagged my birthday cake back up because someone said something.
“That cake is 16 servings, so make sure you only eat a sliver” one of those carrot cake bar-cakes from whole foods. Cuz I’m one person, and nobody I know likes carrot cake.
Two bites of a carrot cake and feeling absolutely disguising that I got vegan takeout because it was my BIRTHDAY
I cried in the days leading up to my birthday becuwse I had people that wanted to celebrate and I just felt disgusting.
I felt like an ugly fat pig, I felt old. Once you’re an adult every year is a ticking time bomb is what I was taught.
I got grey hairs along my hairline and pimples on my chin. Best of both worlds.
I was overworking out. I couldn’t weight lift. I had no strength and lost a lot of muscle. I hated cardio when I once lover running and hiking. Because I thought I had to do it with an extra 45-60 pounds on my chest
I stopped doing the weighted vest when working out and doing cardio because it was cutting my neck and shoulders.
At that time I was basing self love off what the scale said in the morning. Down one pound? You can be happy today
Up .5 ounces on your period?! You have to hate yourself. How dare you gain weight? Up the cardio. Try weights.
I was sitting in the gym weightlifting one day and just started crying. Like uncontrollably. I mean tears were pouring down my face and I didn’t know why. I was tired that’s why.
I spent so much time hating myself and obsessing over food and working out and what the scale said that I was miserable.
Not being enough for people I wanted the validation from.
It fucked my brain up
I was on a lot of meds too at that time
I was dealing with insomnia, in an abusive relationship, and out of my mind between sleep deprivation, malnourishment and overworking out I almost killed my self and barely remember it. Like just wasn’t there.
I was so tired. I don’t deal with insomnia and I only get nightmares on my period now.
Also learned it’s okay to not workout some days. It’s okay to eat a comfort meal. It’s okay if your caloric intake is over 1,200
I have chronic pain from a back injury
Sometimes my workout is a long walk and physical therapy because physically I’d harm myself doing anything more.
And all this to say, recovery doesn’t happen overnight. Especially if you’ve been struggling for years. Nobody is expecting you to be perfect.
If you slip up, and fall into old ED hah it’s it’s okay, you can fix it. You know what works when you’ve been in recovery. Baby steps.
Cuz allll of that. Happened for years. And over the last year, slowly happened less and less. And just minimised itself more and more.
Anyway.

hey sal i'm thinking of starting gymming next monday but i was wondering what kind of supplements would be good to buy
I can recommend you three dietary supplements:
Whey Protein, pretty much an essential for muscle growth and recovery. Always take it within 30 mins after a weightlifting session.
Pre-Workout/Creatine: They are often mixed together, but can be bought separately. Pre-workout is a dietary supplement containing ingredients (such as caffeine) and is designed to help enhance athletic performance. Creatine is a compund that exists in your muscles and helps produce energy, allowing your muscles to perform better in weightlifting.
Casein Protein, as opposed to Whey, is a slow-digestive protein that exists in most dairy products: They're especially good to take before bed or as a meal, keeping your body with sufficient proteins to absorb during the night or in-between larger meals.
There are ofcourse alternatives for vegans, lactose intolerant and vegetarians.
