at first, he smiles. it could be friendly, were he not so furious. truthfully, he was hardly able to hold himself together. this landsmeet would be everything. it would dictate the future they were fighting for… but it felt like the options were limited. rage burns in his chest standing this close to her & there is no keeping it from his eyes. bitter laughter bursts its' way from his lungs & he revels in it for perhaps too long. it felt like some sort of joke. lying, cheating, stealing, they were all skills ellis had picked up at her father's mercy. they were now second nature to him.

his features fall into a serious expression, his lips pressing into a thin line. it mirrored the new scars that littered his features, proof of every one of his reinventions. he lets out a deep breath, trying to relieve some of the tension in his body.

me when people mischaracterize the love of my life

wei wuxian is not a self-sacrificial or suicidal person. sacrificing himself is very much a last resort when his ability to fight back has been severely limited and he has no other choice!

wei wuxian is also not evil; he never once fell to evil or darkness or resentment, people just labeled him as evil thanks to the political chicanery of deciding he's dangerous and inconvenient when he starts doing other things post-war instead of continuing to use his newfangled ghost ("demonic") cultivation techniques for the interests of the wealthy upper class clans that won the war.

he's smart ok he's legitimately smart not only with cultivation but socially and it makes A LOT of sense in context that he didn't realize lan wangji was always in love with him!!

he doesn't really doubt himself either, whether about his personality, likeability, or worth! his prime insecurity across both lives that he stains all he touches doesn't actually restrain or tank his confidence in himself, his intelligence, or his capabilities, it just makes him hesitate on whether to let himself admit that he is in love with and wants to be with lan wangji.

furthermore he does not resent anyone for anything bad they've done to him even when others are resentful on his behalf; he lets bygones be bygones and is a genuinely good, righteous person!

Shapeshifter nie huaisang AU:

His mother was qinhe nie's spymaster, hired specifically for her unique cultivation ability to change into various shapes. She was a wanderer prior to settling down with her lovers, an experience that allowed her to throughly observe many different animals up close. So while she could become an array of animals (though mostly smaller, quiet ones), nie huaisang seemed to only ever be able to do birds. Or rather, he only seemed interested in doing birds and all his parental figures passed before they could enforce upon him the importance of branching out. As a result of his single-mindedness and artistic eye however, he can basically do any bird he sets his eyes on and replicates it better than even his mother could. He's even started to be able to converse with a few of the species he favors.

It doesn't really amount to much more than a cool party trick... until the wens start to up the ante. At first, it's just a handy way to get away. It isn't until the attack on the unclean realms that nie huaisang first takes advantage of his skill in the form of a giant vulture snagging the side of wen zhuiliu's face during the fight. It almost gives nie mingjue a heart attack but luckily the wens don't seem to realize that it's huaisang. The nie's don't exactly go around broadcasting their cultivation styles after all.

They do burn down his aviary in retaliation though. Which is... extremely upsetting actually. His mother had built that for him.

Then the indoctrination period comes around. Nie huaisang suddenly finds himself in a unique position of being the only one who can escape rather easily. When he fake faints, he fully intends to do so. But. But...

Wei wuxian who checked on him, jiang cheng who came to yell at him about staying hydrated, jin zixuan who awkwardly peaked into the sickroom, lan wangji who was injured and grieving and sadder than huaisang ever remembers seeing him. Even if he could leave them behind, there was still the small retinue of nies that came with him. For the first time in his life, he feels the weight of responsibility that comes with being someone with the ability to actually do something—to gather information, to search for escape routes, to snag some medical supplies. In this situation, he can actually help.

It sucks.

Grey Warden Scarf

(ID in alt text) Phew! I made it before the end of the year. This scarf was inspired by the Grey Warden armor in Dragon Age 2. It is made of acrylic yarn and measures about 7.5 inches (~19 cm) wide and roughly 8 ft (~2.7 m) long.

This one took the longest of all the Dragon Age scarves I've made so far, since the diamond stitch is worked over the previous row of stitches (and thus adds very little to the overall width). These photos also feature Lawrence, the helmet my husband made, who usually dwells in our living room but deigned to guest star for this happy occasion. I plan to finish my Leliana scarf next, since I finally got the right purple for it, and then Josephine c:
