Fire Inside (Mario Brothers)

Warning: this contains somewhat graphic violence and temporary death. Be warned.

Bowser let out an animalistic roar, filled with rage at Mario's attack. He breaths out scorching blue flames in a violent gust. He does this repeatedly, Mario dodging each time. Until he doesn't.

It's a direct hit. Mario let out a gutteral scream as his flesh burned from the ferocious heat. His conscientious fades fast.

It is silent. Luigi hesitantly walked towards his brother's corpse within this horrific quiet, breaking the ever fragile silence. "Mario... Mario... Oh, God." A sob rips its way from Luigi's mouth and he drops on his knees.

Bowser had stopped fighting, his anger quelled by a deep regret. His eyes were wide and he stepped closer.

"Go away. Look at what you did, Bowser. This is unforgivable. You killed him..." Luigi sobbed.

"I'm... I'm sorry," Bowser replied, eyes telling his regret.

"Apologies don't undo what you did. Nothing will. My brothers life was ended by your selfishness. It's all your fault," Luigi said, a harsh glare on his face.

Kamek flies into the room. "Your ugline--"

"Not now, Kamek!"

Kamek took a look at what was happening, and his eyes widen. "Your viciousness... You killed him..." Kamek took a deep breath. "Alright, we can fix this."

"How?! You can't bring back the dead!" Luigi yelled, cradling his brothers ever quiet corpse. "N...Nothing will ever bring him back... He's gone... Not even a one up could bring him back. Not from this."

"Bowser, I'm releasing Peach. She knows what to do," Kamek limply stated, then doing so without hesitation. Bowser lifelessly nodded in response.

Peach daintily walked over to Mario's corpse and sat beside him. She brings out a One-Up and holds his hand while placing it on his chest. She hums a rejuvenating tune, pink magic flowing in her hands from the One-Up. The One-Up shrivels up, and Mario's chest began to rise and fall.

"He's breathing. He's going to have to fight if he wants to make it," Peach murmurs. "But I know he will. He always does. And he always will until he cannot."

Meanwhile, Mario felt himself jolt within his consciousness. He looked around the lifeless area, pain within his soul. He was alive, he knew that, but how long could it last. It hurt. It hurt so bad. Did he even want to continue.

"Maaaaaario!"

Mario looked around, having heard his brothers voice. "Luigi... Luigi, I'm here. I promise."

"Maaaaaaaaaario!"

Mario wanders towards the light in his soul, but something stops him. He looked and Eldstar was floating in front of him. "Eldstar?"

"Do you wish to continue, or do you wish to extinguish your flame?" Eldstar asks, "Or do you wish to fight?"

"I... I want to fight. I need too," Mario answers.

"There's a flame inside of you. Embrace it with love," Eldstar murmurs and Mario felt a warm sensation.

Mario opens his eyes. He was now in his house, Luigi awake by his bed. "Lui...gi?"

Luigi hugged Mario gently. "You... You made it. You're alive."

"I'm... I'm alive." Mario nodded. "And I'm so so glad."

"I'm glad too, Mar... I'm glad." Luigi smiled, tears falling from the relief. "Now rest some more."

Mario was about to object but curled. "M'kay... Goodnight, fratellino."

"Goodnight, fratellone," Luigi smiled and watched as his brother falls asleep in his embrace.

Eldstar watched, smiling as he faded back to Star Haven. "Embrace your fire young one. It will keep you warm, even when you become a Star."

To anyone complaining about how quickly Vi forgave Caitlyn:

Cait's story in season 2 is one Vi's seen before.

Cait's lost a parent. She feels responsible for it, and in her lowest moment, someone much more powerful comes along with all their ill intentions to take her under their wing and prey on her vulnerability. They use her as a weapon by feeding into her fears and her desire for affection, for comfort.

"You're the one acting like her" isn't a jab, it's the truth. And if there's one thing Vi will always do, it's see the good left in her sister.

So when the same thing happens to Cait, why shouldn't she see the good in her too?

Y'know, I get there's all this discourse about "Ouagh if a female character did this she would NEVER BE FORGIVEN but the dudes do it all the time and it's FINE," and then people get mad if you say, "Actually the GIRLS get away with everything and the GUYS are unfairly persecuted," but I do legitimately believe that Once Upon a Time is an unbelievable example of the latter. Like. Hwoaw.

Look me in the eyes and tell me that if Robin and Zelena's roles were reversed, Robin wouldn't have been written off or killed, and any attempt to redeem him would have been met with disgust.

Even more so, look me in the eyes and tell me if Rumplestiltskin had done to any female character even a shadow of what Regina did to Graham, the whole cast AND audience wouldn't have been howling for his blood.

Like. The show really glosses over those, man. Like a lot.

ARCANE SEASON TWO I LOVE ME A GOOD CORRUPTION ARC LET'S GOOOOO

Ok gang I’m gonna talk my shit abt Brian bc it’s eating me alive

So timeline wise a lot of this is built of assumptions, so traditionally in medieval Europe knights begin training at as young as 7 so assumedly that’s when Brian was sent to guarding academy in O’Khasis and going off the age given to him in rebirth we’ll say he’s 16, so he spent roughly 8-9 years in O’Khasis for training (this is just speculation based on traditional medieval knight training but part of it is basically tending to nobility and basically what I’m saying is Brian may have been assign to tend to Zane) and bc he was the traitor in the end it’s assumed he had a close relationship to Zane (whether they were “friends”, he had to protect Zane, or he was scared of Zane, or some combination) so long story short all his formative years were spent training to lay down his life for whoever he’s protecting and probably being manipulated by Zane and likely the knowledge his father sent him here as soon as he could (not with malicious intent but still that’ll fuck up a kid)

And then he comes home and his father has fallen apart after the lords death, he’s drinking more and just generally being a fucking idiot and this is the man he likely idolized growing up (while he was home) bc he was a guard he was everything he was told he should want to be and now to see him like that…. Not great

Additionally it’s also implied that Dale was not as present as he could’ve been for the time Brian still lived with them growing up as Dale expresses this regret after the Alexis stuff

Now Alexis and Brian open up a whole new thing bc one: Brian sees that Dale is not exactly being a role model even now that they have a new daughter two: Alexis gets fucking turned into a shadow knight and then falls into a coma so everyone (rightfully so) is most concerned abt her three: Zane was once again in proximity to Brian so whatever that would make Brian the traitor was likely reminded to him and four: as this happens Dale reflects on how he parents and decides to become a better parent and he does once Alexis wakes up but as far as we’re aware never communicates this regret to Brian

So that likely breeds some resentment in Brian, now Dale is this attentive father to Alexis and completely resigned from being guard something that Brian would likely look down upon bc of his training and his father is now the opposite of what he knew him as, making is training feel worthless from the perspective of doing what his father wanted bc now his father isn’t even that

Those emotions and anger and isolation is a perfect environment for Zane to swoop in and continue to turn Brian against his family and phoenix drop as a whole and he does bc brian betrays everyone

What really gets me is that the series doesn’t treat any of this like this there is not even a conversation abt how Dale or Molly feel abt this bc they’re not even there and then it 15 years later and Brian is never seen again and sure I know why, it was to cause distrust in aphmau’s close friends both in character and for the audience and Brian was a red herring for garroth’s betrayal as well so the audience would let their guard down it’s just… it completely disregards Brian as a character bc at the end of the day for this he wasn’t he was a plot device used for a traitor, he doesn’t get any clear motives, he doesn’t get more attention beforehand, there’s no build up, it’s not even explored what happened at the guarding academy that made him turn against the VILLAGE HE WAS BORN AND partly RAISED IN AND SWORN TO PROTECT AS A GUARD like that doesn’t take nothing and we’ll never truly know it bc he never appears again

TLDR: Brian was a 16 year old kid who was manipulated for 9 years and had a rough relationship with his father and Zane being there for the manipulation turned Brian against phoenix drop and Aphmau severely underutilized his tragedy and it was in the long run pretty inconsequential

I really didn't care that much about taryn after finishing the books—like she was interesting, and I thought holly had done something clever with her and jude's relationship, and the thought of the ghost/taryn dynamic gave me something to chew on in my free time, but that was it.

but then I came on tumblr and saw that people like. really see this 17 yr old traumatized girl as an irredeemable monster? and the more I thought about it, the more ridiculous that seemed to me?? like yes she genuinely makes bad, harmful decisions; I don't deny that. but damn, I'm glad my family & friends allowed me the chance to grow past the person I was at 17. we already see her growing in tqon, and it's clear from the new oak books that she and jude have made their peace (to the point that her disastrous marriage to locke is the butt of a joke!)

I'm also aware that for some people, taryn-hate is just a meme. that's fine, I get it, I've been in fandom spaces for most of my life at this point. but I truly believe you have more fun with the books when you read her as a whole person, and I'm also sad that we hold girl characters to much higher standards than their male counterparts—to the extent that we're so comfortable treating this teenage girl like the scum of the earth. and that's not even really to speak to the media analysis aspect of conversations surrounding taryn

//SO! Was thinking a little bit about my muse portrayal. I think I've grown too comfortable playing Lawrence... Submissively. I think I write him far too soft. He doesn't bare his teeth enough, and while I like playing him gentle, I have to admit I have been slacking quite a bit in giving him that sharp edge he has. I've never been very good at balancing soft but cynical, but this is something I will be trying to correct from this point onward.

after making that post about redemption arcs i read another really good post about the difference between unforgivable characters and irredeemable characters and uh oh post cancelled I'm thinking about daisy tonner again

Something I really especially love about btas is that every character is just… a human. Batman doesn't just show up and incapacitate 30 people no issue, he has to fight and brawl with just 1 or 2 henchmen. He can be taken out by hits and poisons and such. The rogues have to surrender when the cops get guns to their faces, and can be overpowered even by normal people. Joker isn't some pure evil incarnation of the Devil or whatever, he's just… a really bad man. Same for every other villain and character. And Bruce actually gets to show personality and emotion beyond Brooking and Grunting. He makes jokes and laughs and gets sad.

I'm really getting to understand why people call this the best Batman adaptation.
