PALESTINIAN FAMILY FORCED TO RESTART FUNDRAISING - PLEASE DONATE!
PROGRESS: £520 / £35,000
a little while ago, I was contacted by Amal Abushaban, a Palestinian mother of 5, for help regarding her Gofundme campaign.
In summary, after spending months raising over $13,000 for her family, she attempted to withdraw the money. She did everything right, she answered Gofundme's questions, she provided the details of her beneficiary and she contacted their support team - only to be left in the dark until an email came one day, notifying her that her campaign had been closed and all donations were now in the process of being refunded.
Tumblr media
I tried kicking up a major fuss about it online, as well as trying to pester Gofundme Support on my own account, but all it did was send me in circles as I desperately pleaded for the Gofundme Support person I was assigned to at least re-instate the damn fund. Even worse, Amal got her first email today about refunds going through.
Regrettably, Amal is being forced to start over completely in her fundraising efforts. Her beneficiary has started this Paypal fund for her. Please donate and share!

I've almost reached my breaking point with this genocide in Ukraine. I'm older than most Tumblr users, so I was being yelled at in university tutorials in the early 00s for talking about the Holodomor, and being told that "If it happened, Ukrainians deserved it for being Nazis".
I was out there in 2007 when we had the worldwide march for the Holodomor to be recognised as a genocide, only for so many countries (the USA being one of them) to tell us that they won't do it because it might upset russia.
I remember when russia invaded in 2014 and Obama said it wasn't his business, and that russia can decide what happens in Ukraine. And then he sent Ukraine fucking helmets and "hygiene kits" instead of the military aid he was supposed to.
My family in Donetsk walked out of their homes with their lives packed in plastic shopping bags nearly eleven years ago. But people prefer to believe the russian lies that Donbas wants to be part of russia.
I remember sitting at home on the 17th of July 2014, hearing about russia shooting down MH17, and feeling my blood run cold because the initial reports said the aeroplane was full of Americans. Being so sure that the USA might finally live up to the Budapest Memorandum and get involved in the war.
Of course they didn't.
And then the Malaysians went and protested at the Ukrainian embassy, as if they were to blame for being invaded by their genocidal neighbour.
I remember being at a protest at the russian embassy in Canberra just after Crimea was annexed, and the only people who turned up for us were other Ukrainians. Soon after there were massive protests for Palestine and BLM from Melbourne to Dublin and beyond. Ukrainians are too white for leftists and too foreign for right-wingers to care about.
More people dumped buckets of ice on their heads than supported us.
I spent Easter 2016 in a hotel in Ukraine. 8.5 years ago I was the only guest who wasn't a soldier on leave from the war.
Now I go on reddit and see that Americans are discussing how Ukraine "has a neo-fascist problem". Um, you guys just voted for Donald fucking Trump?
Then I see an Australian journalist say that the US election result means that America is "becoming like Eastern Europe". No. Eastern Europeans aren't Nazis. They suffered more under the Nazis than anyone.
We're always on our own. Millions upon millions of Ukrainians have been killed in the last ninety years, millions more sold into slavery in Germany (including my grandparents), hundreds of thousands sent to gulags (including the entire population of my grandmother's village), and hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of thousands dead or missing now, but we're still not seen as worthy of caring about.
I have family members whose dead bodies have been lying on battlefields for over a year. One killed in Bakhmut, a city that no longer exists. Another taken hostage from Mariupol, a city russia bombed to the ground. The mass graves there can be seen from space.
We can't get the bodies back because russia has colonised the area. I have a relative who was moved on from fighting in Vovchansk because there was no point fighting for another city that no longer exists. My relative who was taken hostage in Mariupol was starved and tortured for 2.5 years.
And then last week our city's magazine had a three-page interview with the russian ambassador, explaining why his country "has" to commit genocide in Ukraine. The editor laughed at my aunt when she phoned to register a complaint.
But teenaged tankies on sites like this will mock Ukrainians' deaths, stick a fucking hammer and sickle in their profile, and lecture people like me about things they know nothing about.
The world needs to end its ridiculous love affair with the russian federation.

it blows my mind that some bitch, sitting in her safe and warm apartment in a country protected by NATO's nuclear arsenal, sees a post about how Russia hit several hospitals in Ukraine with cruise missiles (one of which is a children's hospital for children with cancer) killing dozens of civilians and her first reaction was to write crap about a Ukrainian tennis pro, again writing "fuck Ukrainians who talk about their genocide" and not "fuck hypocrites who don't allow talking about other genocides in sports" and 40k fucking people agreed with it

Very normal day on the internet
Both Ukrainians and Palestinians deserve safety. People from peaceful countries, who put victims against each other and belittle their struggles, deserve to go through the same thing we do

Russia blew up a ship carrying humanitarian for Palestine.
"The strike, which killed eight people and injured another 11, hit a Panama-flagged civilian vessel and damaged its cargo of aid. It was the third Russian attack against a civilian vessel in four days.
The U.N. had delivered an order for the aid to be sent to Palestine.
"Ukraine, despite the war, supplies products for 400 million people around the world," said Agriculture Minister Vitalii Koval."'
Russia's attacks on civilian shipping from Ukraine aren't just attacks on Ukraine- they're an attack on the entire world, in particular poorer nations who often rely on Ukrainian grain.
But hey, I'm sure the "pro-Palestinian" Tankies who also love Putin and its Iranian allies because they're against "the West" will not be silent about this. Right?
Any time now, guys.

Imagine this is you:
Tumblr media
And this is the body of your 10 year old daughter being carried out of your house, completely destroyed by a missile, all because a dictator in a neighboring country decided that he absolutely needs your country subservient to him, and because all your country's allies refuse to let your country strike the aggressor's military airfields

Just watched a documentary mini-series on how Ukraine was regaining its independence in 1991.
The way the US tried so hard to preserve the USSR. That goddamned "Chicken Kiev" speech from George Bush.
And then that ultimatum that the US would only recognise Ukraine's independence if Ukraine gave up its nukes and a significant portion of other weapons, because for some reason they thought only russia had the right to have them.
Ukraine did agree to this ultimatum. It signed that goddamned Budapest memorandum. The US and UK said they, along with russia, would guarantee Ukraine's safety. And then in 2014 Ukraine, having gotten rid of most of its military potential, got invaded by russia. And the UK and US did NOTHING. Then in 2022 russia escalated its war to all out genocide. Entire cities are completely razed to the ground, tens of thousands of people are killed, millions lost their homes, thousands are subject to torture and forced deportations. Only then the US reluctantly started providing help, which is MUCH appreciated, I must stress on that, but Ukraine still has to keep begging. For its very existence. That was "guaranteed".
And in the midst of this, a lot of USAmericans are like, "why would we care about these millions of people (that we gave security guarantees to) that are being subject to genocide when the roads in my town are bad and the streets are filled with garbage? They must all die because there is garbage on my street!"

I know russia is panicking at the moment and pumping out more anti-Ukrainian propaganda than they have since February 2022, but WHY are people still falling for it?
They've revived some of their propaganda stories from back in 2014, they're that desperate. All the lies about Ukrainians burning russians alive and bombing themselves.
I know the pro-Palestinian community tends to live in an echo chamber infested with Kremlin propaganda, but I didn't expect to wake up this morning, check Twitter, and see my feed full of people with Palestinian flags in their bios sharing the most heinous, genocidal lies about Ukraine.
People who live down the road from me even sharing it! Well-known journalists. People from as far away from Ukraine as Tasmania!
Everyone in this world needs to take an internet literacy class, and learn to check their sources. Because if there's one thing in the world russia is good at, it's finding useful idiots in the West.
If you're "anti-genocide", then you shouldn't be vocally supporting russia's genocide in Ukraine. If you're cheering for russia, I'm sorry to tell you, but that makes you PRO-genocide.
I will again share this story, and suggest that every Westerner reads it:

russians: *come to my homeland in tanks and with guns, murder, torture and rape my people, rob them of everything, wipe whole cities off the face of the earth, shoot missiles and drones whenever and wherever they want, cause unimaginable ecological damage, all while their countrymen back in russia are watching and cheering*
Me: I hate those despicable creatures and want them to die horrible deaths.
Some people thousands of kilometres away: YOU'RE DISGUSTING, UTTERLY EVIL, HOW DARE YOU! UKRAINIAN NAZI! By the way, russians are sweet innocent babies who are against the war, they're just so scared uwu, we love them.

You may ask what this person did to get these kind of messages. Well, they asked Japanese mascot account to not use russian social media that is controlled by russian government. I repeat, people tell them to kill themselves because they asked to not use and promote website that is supported by russian ruling government.
