Faeries and Corgi
Stories of corgis and faeries intricately weave together in Welsh mythology, creating a tapestry of wonder and enchantment. The Tylwyth Teg, or "fair folk," have long been a part of Wales' rich cultural legacy, inhabiting the lush landscapes and historic burial mounds, lending the untamed area a magical quality. The myths about faeries and their connection to the beloved Welsh corgi breed are among the most endearing. Reports suggest that the faerie folk chose these robust, low-to-the-ground herding dogs as their mounts, endowing them with steadfast loyalty and intelligence as they traversed the undulating hills and valleys. It was thought that the corgis' elongated bodies and small stature were the result of faerie interference, intended to keep them from being carried away by the strong slipstream generated by their charmed riders' quick movement. Welsh folklore tells us that the faeries meticulously fashioned the corgis' distinctive appearance, giving them the ideal form to embark on imaginative adventures. The dogd's sleek bodies and short legs allowed them to move quickly through the tough terrain, keeping up with the faeries as they darted through the old woodlands and hazy glens.
The faerie folk regarded the Corgis as invaluable companions due to their bravery and undying love. They were more than just reliable horses; they were also sentries, keeping an eye out for any dangers or intruders and guarding the hidden routes that led to the magical land. The faerie queen herself trusted them for protection during her joyful processions due to their exceptional dedication. There are many stories of farmers and shepherds seeing these faerie processions and feeling both fear and wonder at the sight. Few humans had the good fortune to see the magnificent fairy queen riding her corgi, flanked by a procession of elegantly attired fairy courtiers and their own small canine friends.
These accidental meetings were considered auspicious signs of prosperity as long as the mortal witnesses behaved with appropriate deference and did not disrupt the faerie merriment. It was thought that upsetting or offending the faerie folk would bring disaster and undesirable luck because they were infamous for being erratic and cunning, capable of both kindness and cunning. It was thought that people who faced the wrath of the faeries would see their households beset by inexplicable misfortunes, their livestock roaming, and their harvests failing. In their collective imagination, the Welsh people still associate corgis with faeries. The continuing charm of faerie folklore and the breed's continued appeal blend together to remind us of the magic that permeates the misty hills and valleys of this ancient nation. The faint outline of a faerie rider is nearly visible when a corgi leaps through the Welsh countryside, serving as a momentary reminder of the enchantment that endures among people who uphold the rich customs of their ancestors.

managed to accidentally combine welsh, te reo, english, and german in a sentence with only seven words in it while typing something out in my notes before rereading and saying "wait what the fuck am i even talking about" so that's how my day is going
#i do not even speak welsh to be clear. i'm very slowly learning but my focus is almost entirely on te reo right now#it was something to do with similarities between y tylwyth teg + ngā patupaiarehe and typing it out made me codeswitch to a stupid extent#i'm not good at sticking to one language at the best of times so using two diff languages briefly made my brain shut down#this is not the first time in the past few days this has happened also LOL

Mitologia - Criaturas

Faebruary Day 13~Tylwyth Teg
Tylwyth Teg are faeries found in Wales. It is said that they have fair skin and white blonde hair. The type of Tylwyth Teg I was inspired for this piece was the Ellyllon, or elves.
~
Today marks the last day of @brettmanningart ‘s Faebruary Art Challenge. I had so much fun drawing and learning about each theme. It also really inspired me out of my art block, so I’ll be working more on some new art. Thank you for sharing this art challenge, Brett.

Fairies have been victims of forced displacement for years, due to the advancements of technology and invasion of human. Curses and magic protection spells haven’t been enough to prevent the destruction of fairy homes.
The tiniest, usually tree protectors, have found themselves in the care of bigger fairies in order to be able to travel. Pixies, Devas and Will O’ Wisps have travelled along Tylwyth Tegs, Mouras and Gianes.
Salamanders have found themselves divided between enjoying the care of human animal lovers and breaking havoc setting fires. The biggest fires have not been their fault though, because humans have destroyed the ozone layer enough to cause their own. This has also caused debates within the salamander community.

Quote
The prevalent belief in Wales may be said to rest with the ignorant, to be strongest in rural and mining districts, to be childlike and poetic, and to relate to anywhere except the spot where the speaker dwells - as to the next parish, to the next county, to the distant mountains, or to the shadow-land of Gwerddonau Llion, the green meadows of the sea.
Wirt Sikes in ‘British Goblins’
#in 1828 Crofton Croker said people believed manufacturing had scared the tylwyth teg away#by 1880 it was dissenting ministers!
