People are so desperate for LGBT representation, (specifically gay and lesbian couples), that they're willing to accept literally any homosexual ship regardless of the concerning elements.
Let's see, we have ass ships like
1)Stolitz - Stolas is an abuser, a r*pist, a racist man who has so many powers yet is emotionally fragile, passive and wimpy, a man who victimizes himself over and over, a man who emotionally neglects the child who desperately needs him for his sexual fantasies with his victim, a man who is the creator's pet, a man whose actions aren't wrong according to the writers, a man who can just blame everyone else around him but himself with no consequences
2) Catradora - Catra is an abuser too, but was treated like a cute kitty cat in s5 despite having done atrocious things, she was instantly forgiven with no consequences, and she ended up dating her sister and the biggest victim of her abuse
3) Huskerdust - I haven't talked about this one so far, but Angel sexually harassed Husk and never apologized, Husk himself sang "Loser, Baby" and as a SA survivor I felt like he was trying to say this to Angel: "Oh, you've hit rock bottom because of SA? It's your fault lol, accept that you're a whiny bitch and a loser even tho the problem is extremely serious and out of your control and just suck it up, I'm a loser too despite not going through the same thing you have, you're not alone in being a loser BUT YOU ARE STILL A LOSER BABYYY A LOOOSER" Like, ik the message was supposed to be how we're not alone in our struggles and how there's always someone who will understand and make us feel less alone, but the way this was handled rubbed me the wrong way. Also, I'm not sure whether or not to mention this as well (screw it, I will), but Husk is described as "the old bartender," his voice sounds like it belongs to an old dude too, and he apparently died when he was like, 70, while Angel died in his 30's. I'm not gonna calculate their ages based on how it works in Hell because personally I feel like it doesn't matter. What matters is how old they were when they were alive. But however you decide to look at their ages, it's not just the implied enormous age gap that bothers me, no... it's more so the difference in maturity between Husk and Angel. Husk is described as a dude who has seen and experienced a lot of stuff. On the other hand, Angel is clearly immature and there is this weird... emotional imbalance between them? It's like a mentor dating his apprentice, at least that's how I see it. I'm not saying dating someone who's 40 years older than you is morally wrong (if you're both adults) but IT IS WEIRD imo, especially since Angel & Husk are not on the same page when it comes to life experience and maturity. Oh yeah, I also don't think Angel should be in any kind of romantic relationship... for his own good

Idk if I've ranted about this yet but I wanna get it off my chest. TW mentions of homicidal thoughts/slight graphic description (not coming from me), mention of incest/abuse (including sexual)
Back when I was still in contact with my previous FP, I decided I would tell him he was my FP. This was a vulnerable moment for me considering I was extremely afraid I'd be ostracized and rejected for it. So you can imagine how terrible it was when his reaction was NOT to ostracize me, but to tell me he wanted me dead. Yep. He freaked out which caused me to block him. He responded to this by waiting like 10 minutes and then texting my friends to unblock him because he still wanted to be friends and he accused me of 'not understanding him'. I suppose I should grant a bit of context, to be entirely fair to him: He was abused, physically and sexually, by his sister. So when he said I wasn't understanding him, he meant that I shouldn't be upset because His Trauma means he got to threaten to kill me. And it wasn't a one off thing either- he got into detail, saying how he was fantasizing about tearing me apart. He even stated himself that it wasn't intrusive thoughts-- it was a genuine wish to. He never apologized. He felt totally justified. And I felt he was too. Of course, right after that, I completely dogged on myself for reacting that way, and we went back to normal right up until our falling out. (During this he, again, accused me of not understanding him and essentially called me ridiculous.) But I feel like a major part of my dignity was torn away at the fact I was apologizing to the man who couldn't even dare to respect me. I know he had trauma. But that hadn't been the first time he had compared me to his abuser to my face, or completely disregarded how I felt about something. Typing this out now, though, I wonder once again if I truly was in the wrong. Then again, it wasn't like he ever loved me. He even said so himself.

i love authors who think they're really good at writing just because their basic coming of age stories are diverse in terms of gender/sexual identity and race
then they say "huck finn has racism! english classes only taught me that incest was okay" and you realize that they spent all highschool english classes daydreaming about the Harry potter fanfic they were going to write when they got home and they never pursued any further education in writing because they don't fucking care and its just a fucking paycheck to them
some basic ass story that we've all read a million times that doesnt even DARE to swear because its divisive language
some overly long novel series where the fucking school or camp represents the hardships that these neurodiverse/poc/genderqueer characters would face in society in the real world
like okay??? what are you trying to say
just be the best in the world and people will treat you with respect? be a fucking chosen one?
do they even care about writing? do they see it as art when all they churn out is vomit that they got after consuming 3 best sellers that all have tbe same fucking story?
huckleberry finn IS racist, it does have racist language, that's because it's a novel from the 1880s saying that racism is FUCKING BAD
consuming media with rape, racism, murder, sexism, or anything along those lines that classic novels are condemned for containing does not mean you support it
writing about these subjects does not mean you support it
dont let jerkoffs who never took an english composition class kill nuance
you dont have to write "he was murder (THIS IS A BAD THING)" you dont have to write "she was abused (THIS IS BAD GUYS)"
you're supposed to think critically about media like this
dont let them take away nuance because when they do then your fucking ability to critically think goes with it

I'm sorry but I genuinely can't understand how people can look at Stolitz and Catradora and think these ships are healthy in any way, shape or form.
Stolas r*ped Blitzø. No, consent given in a life-or-death situation doesn't count
Stolas is racist towards imps, and this didn't change even when he "fell in love" with Blitzø
Stolas doesn't appreciate or respect Moxxie and Millie in the slightest (and was disappointed that his "Prince Charming" wasn't the one to rescue him)
He looks down on Blitzø and calls him things like "impish little plaything" and "his big dicked Blitzy" and doesn't stop treating him like shit even when Blitzø says loud and clear that he hates being talked down on like this (DUH)
The only thing Stolas knows about Blitzø is that he hates books and the only thing Blitzø knows about Stolas is that he's a boring bookworm. Keep in mind, the two figured this out about each other while they were kids, 25 YEARS AGO, after Blitzø was bought so that he could be Stolas' "friend" for ONE DAY
Stolas doesn't love Blitzø for Blitzø. Stolas loves the *idea* of Blitzø. The bird man wants to live a romance that is just like the romances in his cheesy novels. He wants to ride into the sunset with his one true love. He wants grand romantic gestures. He wants his "Prince Charming". Except, Blitzø isn't the type of guy for such sappy displays of affection, he never was. Especially combined with his trauma. And as soon as that other imp guy asked him to dance, Stolas not only accepted the offer, but Blitzø was no longer on his mind. And no, I don't think being drunk is proof that Stolas didn't mean what he had told Blitzø. Drunk people find it easier to say what's really on their mind after all
Blitzø fell in love with his abuser. This makes sense, actually. The guy always pushed everyone away and never got to experience true love, and now that he has the chance to be "wanted," even if the "relationship" is toxic, he finds it hard to let it go
As for Catradora, the things I wanna say about this ship have already been said throughout the years, but it all boils down to these things:
Catra mentally, emotionally and physically abused Adora
Catra had no problem ending the whole entire universe if it meant she'd finally be better than Adora
Catra was a war criminal and a fascist
Catra was responsible for what happened to Glimmer's mom and never apologized, let alone faced consequences
Their relationship was toxic even when they were kids
They were both raised by Shadow Weaver and were the only ones in the Horde who saw her as a mother figure, thus making the ship straight up incest, with even the official source material calling them sisters (adoptive siblings ARE REAL SIBLINGS!!!)
Catra got exactly what she wanted in the end (the girl she's always been obsessed with and dependent on) and, once again, faced 0 consequences for her actions
The show (and C//A stans) fetishizes abuse. As a SA survivor, I felt physically sick during the final episode, where the abuser ends up with her victim/sister and they kiss
In short, these ships are disgusting and the lgbt community deserves better representation

Oneshot | Friends Made In Strange Places | Aegon Targaryen II
A/N: Another Oneshot from my Ao3 and Wattpad accounts, the last three I have posted are my faves and probably the few I have that have been completed or exited the idea stage haha
SUMMARY: (Female) Reader is the maid/nanny for Aegon's children, and while you watch over the princes an unlikely friendship forms.
TW: Minor Character Death, Loss, (Class) Discrimination, Abuse of Power, Depictions of Alcoholism, Mentions of Incest, Mentions of SA (because no, I'm sorry, you can't like a character and just erase all the shitty things they did, it WILL be addressed in this oneshot)
★ MASTER LIST HERE ★
WORD COUNT: 4,999
The Red Keep was still, the night had cast a blanket of its mercy. It hid the guards in shadowed corners and allowed the court to sleep. They were tucked away in their beds, their dreams taking them to a peaceful realm. Only you, a single maid was not allowed such a night, made to watch over Maelor as the Queen slept. He was ceaseless. Nothing seemed to work, not the feeding, the burping, the changing, the small bounces or the soft songs. You feared he had colic. After all, he seemed to cry incessantly for no reason at all.
You continued to bounce the child, lifting him to your shoulder as you looked out over the King's Landing. At least not all were captured in dreams, many were awake but too far to see. You could glimpse at the small lights from houses but not a soul. In the darkness of the chamber, you felt the only being alive, trapped in torment as the baby refused to settle.
You hoped by laying Maelor down and rubbing his tummy that soon he'd find peace, feel the comfort of the cot to finally, sleep. Tears pricked your eyes.
"Please" you murmured, breaking the quiet of the chamber with your silent plea.
No wonder the Queen Mother made you, not Queen Heleana, comfort the child. He was not even yours yet the stress felt no different. He was forever restless, nothing could calm him. You considered feeding him again but that felt no use, he had eaten not long ago. Perhaps, you smirked, he was a true Targaryen, wilful and torturous when he wanted to be. But he was but a baby, it was funny musing to pass the time.
Once again a lullaby left your lips trying to soothe the child. Your mother had sung it to you in the Riverlands. You had not seen her for years, her health becoming poorly and you too busy to visit. Your sister said it was an affliction unlike any she saw.
Your singing grew louder at the memory- a whisper that carried across the chamber, your hand rubbing the child's tummy to the rhythm.
"Why is he not asleep?". You shot up, immediately, turning to the voice. The wails of Maelor did nothing to quench the fear filling your stomach, you hoped he could drown it so it wasn't clear on your face.
"Your Majesty" you bowed, being quick to pick up the child afterwards. It wasn't out of comfort, no, Maelor had now become your own meat shield. You had heard what he'd done to Dyana and that would never become you. Close you held him to your chest and bounced lightly.
"How long has he been crying?" His voice was unusually concerned. You didn't think the King cared much for anything unless it was his cups or whores.
"All night. Nothing seems to settle him, Your Majesty"
He nodded in contemplation and stepped closer. You were rooted to the ground. Soon he reached you in a few quick steps and plucked the child from your arms.
It was like magic, with a few simple bounces, pats on his back and soft soothing escaping his lips, the child's wails began to lessen. It was like the King was a baby whisperer. The child knew when fire and blood were near.
"How... how?" You could only say, your eyes wide with shock and a pained relief.
"He is my child, he knows it is me" he whispered.
"But I tried everything, I have always taken care of him... Your Majesty", you nearly forgot his title.
"Maelor is fussy, spoilt. He will cry until I am here. I was late"
You soon came to the realisation, after sifting through your memories, that this was the first night you were the last to hold Maelor. The King did indeed care for the children, coming every bedtime to settle the child into his cot. All the while, you would clear the room of toys and his old day clothes.
"I never noticed, Your Majesty. I apologise" you bowed.
"Do not worry, even as King many do not pay attention to me"
"I am sure many do, Your Majesty"
The King chuckled, shaking his head with an almost sad smile. Not only did you realise he was rocking the child in his arms, but his feet were pulling on and off the floor. Once again in his cups you assumed.
"You smallfolk, still know nothing of this Keep" he said aloud in the barest whisper. He refused to meet your eyes, they were fixed on the child.
You didn't understand what had caused this bout of honesty. Before you had pictured yourself becoming Dyana, you knew how to escape that. But handling the spoken sorrows of a king, was something you were unprepared for.
"Tis my duty to care for your children. Not think of court matters, that is not my place Your Majesty"
"Of course, all none the wiser while we burn" he smirked sardonically.
"Are we to burn, Your Majesty?", your lip trembled at the words. You were pushing too far, eventually, he would find disobedience among the questions. Perhaps cast you out the Keep for insolence.
The King shrugged, a small shift of his shoulders. Too much like a child. "Perhaps, perhaps not. None of us wants to but maybe it is inevitable"
"Do you fear it, Your Majesty?"
The enquiry hung in the air. This was the moment it would all come crashing down. Your bags would be packed by dawn and onto the streets you would be cast. You walked a path so unpredictable, so treacherous, but you couldn't help yourself. There was a vulnerability in the King that had to be addressed. You doubted with the Queen's sensitive mind and their Mother's lack of emotional comfort that the King had someone to talk to.
The King has no friends, only followers, you once heard. And the phrase couldn't be truer now.
"The stranger comes for us all" he quoted with a mocking tone. The Queen Mother's pious voice was not lost on you.
"Not always, sometimes he's merciful"
"You think death can be a mercy?"
You had to tread carefully, "I have had yet to suffer to truly feel so. But in other's suffering, my family's, the darkest parts of me fear it's the only way"
"Would you willingly go to the stranger, four your family?"
"I love my family, I do. But I hope to be honest with my King. I would never be without a fight. I have too much to live for Your Majesty"
The King nodded, seeming to contemplate the thought, surprisingly considering your words despite your station.
"You are dismissed" he finally spoke amongst the silence.
And you didn't think twice before quickly escaping from the child's chambers. Your heart was thrumming in relief while it momentarily throbbed with regret. Something about the king was almost- no, it was pitiful. You couldn't help but look back and capture those eyes. They spoke of a pain far greater than you had realised.
You hoped soon he would find solace somewhere. Not just in his cups, or in whores, but in genuine company.
-
The next night you had returned to the nursery after tucking Jaehaerys and Jaeheara into bed. They had separated the two from baby Maelor due to his wails, endlessly echoing throughout the keep until the King came.
This time his crying wasn't as loud but he was so restless you couldn't help but swaddle him. You didn't hear of the crown swaddling their children like this, so tightly bound in a scarf their limbs were trapped against their bodies. You only ever saw them in long baby clothes wrapped in delicate fabrics, their arms and legs still free to kick. You hoped it would settle him to sleep, cast the child back to a time it was safe in the Queen's womb.
"He looks like a loaf of bread" The King chuckled, his eyes crinkling and smile wide like a jokester. You had made way to rise but his hand gestured you to stay.
"He is swaddled Your Majesty, hopefully, he will sleep better this way," you remarked, looking back down at the child. His eyes were still teary and his mouth contorted to release a powerful wail that never came, silent amongst the night.
"It seems you have discovered his weakness, why does it work?"
A King who is impulsive, reckless, and sinful, you wondered what turned him to question. He did not seem a man for curiosity if it was not amongst the Street of Silk.
"If you wrap them tightly they feel like they're in their mother again, where they were once safe and sound", the back of your finger ran down the child's cheek. Another cry threatened to blast from his lips as you shushed Maelor.
"It's a shame we cannot remember it like them" he nodded, and slowly he stepped closer. Almost cautious, making your hair stand on end.
"Is that jealousy I hear Your Majesty?" you quipped, trying to dispel your nerves; forgetting who stood before you despite speaking the title.
"Are you not jealous?" He countered, his brow suddenly stern with venom. You knew to tread carefully, you did not know what he was thinking.
"How can I miss something I've never known, Your Majesty?"
"Many people do. Money, power, women. They'll never have it yet crave it"
"And because of that, you think they're lacking?", your eyebrow quirked.
"Do you not lack in life? A wet nurse with no child, no husband, no power" he smirked, his tone full of mocking.
Your heart stopped, or the pain in your chest felt it did. Your gut had been punched, a wave of anger sifted through you that was uncontrollable, and the only thing stopping you from boiling over was the child in your arms. He was still a King, no matter what you saw the night before, he would always look down on you. No conversation could remould the chain. Change the way of things.
"I have a family that loves me, food in my belly, a roof over my head and work to keep me busy. I am lacking in nothing Your Majesty, I have everything I need"
"Because you do not know more than a small, meagre life. Never getting what you want"
"It is better than watching you drown your sorrows despite everything you have" you suddenly snapped and aback the King was taken. His poison lost on the truth you had spoken.
"You know nothing about me," he growled, stepping closer, his hand on the back of your chair, lowering himself face to face. His stark white hair had cast a curtain around you; there was nowhere to look but him, and you could not tear yourself away.
"Neither do you. I bet this is the longest conversation you have had with a woman without spreading her legs" You stood firm, you wouldn't show him weakness. It could mean your head but a part of you pitied. There was still a boy clawing for power and adoration behind those eyes.
"You think you are funny"
"Oh the funniest Your Majesty"
Your eyes were locked, battling in a silent rage.
"Why do you not fear me?" He uttered from the tense silence, breaking the atmosphere.
The words were lost on you, still lost when he gradually pulled away with the child taken into his arms. While you gnashed your fangs at one another, Maelor had found sleep among the chaos.
"I will take my leave, Your Majesty"
And with that, once again you fled.
-
"You are a strange woman" he sounded from the doorway, leaning against the frame as you looked over Jaehaerys. The boy had come down with a slight fever, nothing the measters couldn't tend to but, they insisted someone sit tight.
"Strange in what way Your Majesty?" you sighed, preparing to tolerate his presence after last week.
You had not spoken since, only coming into his presence so he could settle Maelor into bed. He could not manage a word between you before you ran to your cot.
"You come back" The King shrugged, his arms still knotted at his chest. You felt something brewing.
"Where else could I go Your Majesty?"
"There are many duties you could take up"
"Like your cupbearer?" You bantered with an edge. The King stalked further into the chamber, coming behind your chair. He fixed his hands to the corners of it, leaning close to your back.
"That does not sound too bad my lady"
"I am no lady" you shook your head.
"Then what is your name?" you hesitated for a moment. To disobey would be a great offence and you already offended too much.
You told him in a quiet whisper, hoping it evaded his ears. But the smallfolk achieved little victories in King's Landing. It echoed from between his lips with a slight slur.
"You are drunk Your Majesty" you came to realise.
"Never more than usual" he huffed.
"Still, what if you fell?"
"Is that a threat?" He chuckled lowly, his mouth suddenly at your ear.
You refused to lean away, refused to show weakness, and said that he had a chance of winning.
"It is an educated guess from knowing men too fond of their cups"
"I am not most men"
"No, you are the King. Even more, reason to be wary"
His hand came to curl a lock of your hair around his finger, his pull was so delicate but too close. "You speak so well for a wet nurse"
"My father was an educator, he spoke well and in turn, so do I"
He tugged slightly on the lock, and your head came into contact with his temple. It was too close for comfort but you swallowed the unnerving twang in your stomach. You assumed it to be an element of disgust but were surprised to feel your heart pull. How long had it been since a man played with your hair? Spoke to you so softly? Bantered back and forth with you? How long had it been since you felt wanted?
"Such a strange woman..."
"Should I thank Your Majesty?"
"What for?" You could feel the quirk of his brow against your head.
"For not demanding my attention but earning it?"
You did not hear an answer, did not see his mouth slip open to respond. Only the small, meagre coughs from Jeahaerys called your ears and onto him you focused. Not the King standing perplexed behind you.
Yet still, it was on that night, one so quiet and strange. For the first time in a long while, you admitted in the deepest cracks of your heart, you wanted something.
-
When you opened the door to Maelor's nursery you were surprised to see King Aegon sitting with the child on his chest. For the first time in two weeks, he was settled before you acted.
"You have overtaken my duties Your Majesty" You smiled quietly, it barely ghosted over your expression.
But he remained still, his eyes cast down. Or so it seemed. As you crept further you came to realise the King's state. When asleep like this he simply appeared as Aegon Targaryen. There were no drunken words, unsteady feet, no emotional rampage.
Your feet were delicate across the stone floor until you crouched slightly to gaze at his face closer. His features were still boyish, no longer contorted with stress and sorrow. His hair was strewn across his brow, short threads of silver like cobwebs- soft and delicate.
Without thinking, your hand came forward and brushed them aside, barely skimming across his pale skin. You hoped to stay like this for a little while longer but the contact snapped his eyes open. It was instinct that his hand seemed to trap your wrist in his grasp.
"What are you doing?" He grumbled, his grip becoming tighter. Your expression winced in pain, rippling fear across your body.
"I-I apologise, Your Majesty, forgive me" you stuttered.
"Who gave you the right to touch me?" He grimaced.
"Nobody Your Majesty, there... there was a bug" The lie was terrible, absolutely unbelievable and with the quiet laughter that rang out, you knew he knew it too.
"You think I am stupid", he threw your wrist from his grasp.
"I think you are merciful"
"Another word for weak" he scoffed.
"Mercy is only available to those with power"
He contemplated the words for a moment before standing, in quick succession he placed Maelor down and turned quick on his heels.
"Follow me" Aegon commanded resolutely, your position offered no chance to refuse. You were trapped but a bigger part of you remained curious.
Was this how Dyana fell into his snare? Goading her with comforting words. Did he play with her hair too? You thought.
You traced your steps behind Aegon, small and unsure until you reached his chambers. It was coming, you were sure of it. The guards at his door looked upon you with pitying eyes as you could only cast yours down.
Inside it was just as you heard, barren of the late King's possessions, littered with cups half drunken and yet to be taken away. You could hear him refusing it. Wine stains yet to be scrubbed from the floor littered the stone. The guards pitied you, but your own was reserved for Aegon.
He poured himself another cup, you recognised it as Dornish. The previous Lord you had worked under had a fine taste for it.
"You can call me Aegon in this room" he announced, extending a cup toward you. You took it with trembling fingers and thanked him. Only accepting the drink to hide the shakes that fluttered your limbs.
"I could not Your Majesty" you fretted.
"It is an order, you would not disobey your King, would you?"
"No, your Ma-" you looked up to see his eyes bore into you as the title hung from the tip of your tongue, "No, Aegon" you corrected.
"Marvelous, now! Let's drink"
"Excuse me Your- Aegon, why am I here?", Aegon paused the cup's movement, the rim just licking his lip.
"I am in need of a drinking buddy and honest companion"
"I am sure you have many of those at your disposal"
"None as pretty as you. Now drink, I insist"
Your cheeks blared a deep pink, heating your face to a degree your previous lover couldn't muster.
Unlike in his children's chambers, Aegon appeared more free than ever. Only in the nights did you spy on the King or keep his company, in those moments, there was a sadness riddled within the man too deep to weed out.
Your lips pressed to the rim of the cup before finally taking one gulp. Aegon's eyes of disapproval encouraged another, then a third before finally, he was pleased.
It was strong but unlike anything you had tasted before. It was spiced, not too dry and had a sweetness to it that lightened the mood.
"It is good Aegon" you complimented and for once, a genuine smile stretched upon his face.
"I knew you would enjoy it! Now come, come see" he gestured to the balcony. You felt like you were being dragged around like a child so excited to show you his toys. He was not a child in any way, but the desire for approval was apparent as Aegon pulled back the curtain with a proud, twinkling eye. Over the balcony King's Landing was alive, from here, there was much more to observe than from the nurseries.
"It's-"
"Amazing right? It is the day of rest tomorrow, I used to sneak out on this night" Aegon confessed with a giddy smile.
"I remember celebrating such nights" you shared with a small smile, "my family and I would head to the nearest tavern, unlike most, it was more... family friendly"
"You can guess I never had that. My Mother is too pious, Aemond too serious and then Heleana... well you know Heleana" he chuckled.
"She is a wonderful mother" you complimented.
"If only a better Queen, a better wife, a different woman"
"Do you not love her?" The territory you tread in was dangerous but Aegon relaxed at the question. It was as if he had been waiting for this moment for lifetimes. For someone to ask how he felt.
"Who can love a sister like a wife? It's...", he didn't have to finish.
"How old were you?"
"Fifteen... it is not so bad though, she does not care if I run away to the Street of Silk"
"Would you want someone to care?", you feared there was no coming back from this. You had given the King someone to confide in, would he ever let that go?
"Who knows" he huffed. "What of you? Did he run? Get cold feet before the altar?"
"Something like that, he passed the night before. He had engaged in a scuffle on the road. One punch and his head landed on a rock... he never woke up" Your tone then filled with mourning, despite how you tried to dampen the embers of grief flickering. Every time his face came into your mind you couldn't help it.
"Nothing works out the way we want it to" he huffed, leaning across the balcony. You followed suit, hoping the wind would dry the tears brewing.
"Smallfolk and King's alike" you commented before you clinked your drinks together, never taking your eyes from the kingdom below. "Where would you be now if you could?"
"Essos" he responded in a beat.
"Why Essos?", Aegon didn't even need time to ponder it.
"It is the furthest I could be from this shithole"
You hadn't drunk in a while, the wine had made your lips loose and you couldn't help but giggle at the foul language.
"Why not ride away on your dragon, who could stop you?",
"Have you seen Vhagar? My brother- the cunt that he is- would have me back on that throne before I could step out the Keep"
"Sounds like they need you" I nudged. The contact was sudden and free of thought- impulsive. It was too comfortable but Aegon only shook his bowed head with a smile.
Was this the man who hurt Dyana? Was this lost man truly a King that had caused such suffering? When thinking about it, it was easy to see. So starved of affection, of guidance, master to his whims so easily achieved. None of it was surprising. It was not easily forgotten, not forgiven, but easily understood.
The air changed in moments. Contorted into a silent understanding. You had grasped Aegon's mind in the palm of her hand so easily. He was a man so easily brought to his knees.
"Do you need me?" His tone had shifted so easily, lilting and calm. He sensed the wave that had come upon you.
You shrugged and downed the rest of your wine in two gulps. "I don't need much Aegon"
"Then do you want me?"
You played with the cup in your hand. The dangers of involving yourself like this was insurmountable. Absolutely hysterical. But you allowed yourself to ponder the idea. If you allowed yourself, what would come of it all?
You had not known the touch of a man for years and alone in your cot you slept dreaming of wanting, having the chance to want instead of being chained down by need. And just like you, Aegon stood there needing something to ground him, to offer a chance at respite. He was a broken man and perhaps, you could pay your pain forward.
"As long as you need me, I will stay by your side", the grin that curled at his lips was remarkable, warming your heart too quick to recall how cold it once was.
"Well then!" He clapped as he rose, "You need a refill and cheers to your promotion as my new drinking buddy"
You didn't know what to say, it all happened so fast but the response was spoken before you could catch it, "I would be honoured Aegon"
He raised his cup and handed you another when he returned it to the balcony. No longer were his eyes pitiful but bright and somewhat hopeful. It was a jarring change but one you welcomed nonetheless. At this moment, it felt perhaps something good could come of this. Perhaps, something could be changed.
"To friends found in strange places," he grinned,
"Indeed my King-" you agreed as your cups cheersed, "as long as it is wanted"
Aegon's hand then, once again, found itself in your hair, closer now as his finger twiddled and curled a lock around it. "As long as we want it"
And with that quiet admittance, you raised your eyes to his. Knowing that somehow, two suffering souls had found each other across oceans and chains of being.

i’ve been following you for a little while because i’ve been considering getting back into TBHK. it was one of my strongest fixations but i was totally put off by the fandom’s reception of one part of the story until i dropped it entirely.
i thought i’d ask to see if the fandom has changed at all since i was last in it, and you seem really good at analyzing media: what’s your take on the amane/(possessed) tsukasa sa theory? i won’t argue regardless of what your opinion is! i’m just curious to see how the fandom is treating the story now. i miss the series alot ngl

Have I finally made it as a TBHK fan creator now that I’ve gotten an ask abt the SA theory?? Jk jk, that was a terrible joke I’m sorry guys
Before I get into this I wanna say thank you for being so respectful, people tend to have very strong feelings in this theory (for good reason, it’s a serious subject) and that can lead to pitchforks whenever it’s brought up. I’m going to try to discuss this as neutrally as possible but I will warn you that I’m very biased. I love Tsukasa as a character and the Yugi twins as a sibling duo so as much as I try to see both sides, I simply don’t want this theory to be true and that plays a large role in how I perceive it
TW: This is going to contain more mature themes than my usual posts. Talk of incest, abuse, sexual assault, sex, trauma, PTSD, and a very brief mention of lesbian fetishization
Starting off with how the fandom as a whole talks about it, people are very against it nowadays. When the anime first came out it was super popular, but now you can’t even mention it without someone telling you never to bring it up again. I have only posted about it once and it was a joke about Tsukasa and Teru both having allegations made against them (tho the Teru ones are way less common and only made by fans who want them to be true bcuz they hate him or ship him with his brother). So far I’ve strayed away from going in depth with my thoughts on it, writing this feels like I’m swinging a bat at a hornet’s nest. If your problem with the fandom was that they denied this theory, then I would continue to stay away from it. People on here are more open towards it than TikTok tho so if you still want to get back into the fandom, I would recommend staying on Tumblr. Someone made ONE post implying it on TikTok recently and the entire fandom was shitting on them for like a week. Those instances are rare, I like the fandom overall, but it has its toxic moments and areas just like every fandom
Okay now onto the theory itself. I’m not going to pretend I don’t see where it comes from, there are some scenes in the manga that are drawn and worded weirdly. Most notably the scene in the Picture Perfect Arc where Mei wrote “Brother Lover” on Amane’s face made me wonder if they were trying to imply something. I have since learned that other translations don’t have the incest implication, but it’s still odd to me that they allowed that in any version. Still, he just looked kind of annoyed as opposed to getting flustered like he would have if something was going on with him and Tsukasa (the way he gets flustered when his feelings for Nene are brought up). So I viewed that scene more as a dark humor joke from Mei, I don’t think it was meant to imply anything serious between the twins
There is another scene in that arc, however, when Nene sees Tsukasa clinging to Amane and Amane does get flustered. He starts blushing and says “um…we were just…” and doesn’t really finish his sentence. This made me raise an eyebrow, but I also wouldn’t take it as confirmation that there’s anything romantic or sexual between them. It could very much be viewed as Amane being embarrassed. I feel that the strongest evidence for the incest theory comes from this arc, but that’s only if you want to run with the scenes I mentioned. I also find it strange that people never use these scenes as evidence, only panels that are drawn kind of weird. Fans seem to be stuck on a lot of early scenes with this theory which weakens its substance
For the record, I will not be analyzing the scene from the anime intro. That has already been debunked, the shadowy figure wasn’t Tsukasa, it was a representation of Hanako’s guilt. Although I disagree with the theory, I’m trying to be fair to the campaigners by debunking the stronger pieces of evidence

The strongest evidence for this theory comes from the art, which is just as important to the story as the writing. With manga and graphic novels, the art tells half the story. It shouldn’t be overlooked, so I understand how some fans lean into it. Look back at the official art I put at the top of this post, it’s weird. Hanako is leaning over Tsukasa while Tsukasa holds his chin/lips and arm. They’re posed like a couple. We would never see the Minamoto brothers posed like that. In other scenes, we see Tsukasa touching Amane’s face or holding him from behind. They’re very touchy with each other, more-so than the other siblings in the series
I have two reasons for not taking these type of scenes/arts seriously in a romantic sense. One is that Tsukasa is simply an affectionate character, and Hanako is the same way. I think it’s more part of their behavior than being specific to each other. Secondly, if it’s intended to be taken in an incestuous way then I genuinely believe it’s fan service. That’s one part I don’t deny, AidaIro have certainly given us reason to believe the twins are like the Property Brothers. I just don’t believe it has any place in the actual story or their dynamic. Fan service is common in TBHK and sometimes it veers into problematic territory. Just look at the scene where Hanako possesses Nene to assault Aoi, and then Kou gets flustered by it and can’t help. A random lesbian fetish scene that is never brought up again and plays no role in the story other than moving us from A to B. I have also heard that there’s incest in some of the other works they’ve made, so it’s not a reach to assume they’d throw in a little fan service for the Yugi twins. How seriously you want to take those scenes is up to you, personally I will continue to deny it until we’re given undeniable confirmation

Back to the twins just being affectionate, we see them act that way with lots of characters. Tsukasa is clingy to Sakura and Mitsuba too, sometimes very suggestively. That doesn’t mean he’s into them. I will say that Hanako is most notably clingy to Nene, someone he’s in love with, but we see him get close and friendly with the other characters too (he sat on Kou’s side and booped his nose during their first meeting). And Tsukasa is the one who initiates their physical affection 99% of the time, Amane’s been receiving it since early childhood so him copying Tsukasa’s behavior makes sense. Romantic relationships in adulthood are determined by the way we interact with our families as children so him repeating these actions in a romantic context doesn’t indicate anything abnormal. In fact, it’s a very realistic portrayal of how our love languages and attachment styles evolve over time

And keep in mind, they’ve been that way since they were three years old, it’s just the way they interact with other people and each other. Tsukasa is a very childish character too, one who has very little concept of personal space and boundaries. So him being a little too clingy with his brother might not mean anything. Again, you could read into it if you really wanted to, but the way he interacts with Amane is nothing out of the ordinary. It aligns with his usual mannerisms, if it were specific to Amane then he wouldn’t act that way with the other characters (Amane was also clingy with Nene before he fell for her). Think of it this way, you don’t see Akane holding Teru’s hand or confessing his undying love to Nene. Characters are going to act differently in their platonic relationships vs. romantic/sexual, and we don’t see that difference with the Yugi twins

A difference we do see with them, however, is that Tsukasa isn’t physically aggressive with Hanako the way he is with everyone else. He never attacks him or tries to hurt him, in fact every time he sees him he gets overjoyed and tackles him in a hug. He has no problem hurting him emotionally and mentally, but we never see any physical aggression between the two. This leads me to believe that the SA theory is invalid, it doesn’t line up with how Tsukasa treats Hanako currently or in any of the flashbacks. If anything sexual took place between them, it would have had to be consensual, because the more solid evidence backing this theory focuses on Hanako’s side of things. He’s very possessive of Tsukasa, and he doesn’t experience a trauma response when they’re touching normally. If it’s an intense scene and Tsukasa is telling him horrible things while touching him, then he freezes in place and starts crying. But when Tsukasa is just hugging or clinging to him, he only gets embarrassed. Hanako does show some signs of PTSD, but that trauma is rooted in him killing Tsukasa. If the trauma were anything sexual, we would see him experience those same trauma responses he displays in violent scenes when Tsukasa touches him in any context. At the very least, we’d see him get way more uncomfortable than being mildly annoyed
(Note: I am aware that not everyone reacts to trauma and PTSD the same way. I do not have any trauma of my own so I am going off what I have heard throughout my life from others sharing their stories. I am in no way trying to invalidate anyone’s experiences, no matter how you react to your abuser your feelings are valid and I hope you get the help you need)

Another common piece of evidence used is that Hanako is hypersexual. I believe this is a serious misuse of the term, hypersexuality is so much more than being a pervert. People who are hypersexual usually think about sex all the time, they engage in excessive sexual behaviors and even think about it in completely normal contexts. This is a common response to many types of trauma, not just sexual. It’s a way for people to gain back control after they’ve been abused, or sometimes it’s a problem that arises from porn addictions or a weird relationship with sex. Even if Hanako were hypersexual, that wouldn’t necessarily indicate SA. He has canonical trauma aside from that, and it could also come from the pent-up frustration of being a middle schooler for 58 years
This is another situation where we have to account for the context. You can’t just take one element of a character’s canon personality and run with it, that’s the leading cause of mischaracterization. You have to consider how that behavior lines up with their other traits. Hanako is an allosexual boy who has been 13 for literal decades. Middle school boys are already one of the horniest species on our planet, it’s an awkward time when you’ve just learned those feelings exist and what they mean but you’re not emotionally mature enough to do anything about it. That usually goes away in the next few years when teens start getting into relationships. Now imagine that feeling staying with you for fifty-eight years. That’s over half a lifetime of being stuck in a transitional period. You have so many strong feelings, but you can’t do anything about them. Not just because of maturity, but because there’s no one to do them with. It makes sense that you wouldn’t know how to act when you get your first girlfriend (not excusing any of his weird behavior btw, frustration is not an excuse and it doesn’t make the way he treats Nene and Aoi okay. But it’s still important to understand his reasons, especially in this context)
I also want to note something I don’t see pointed out often, which is that most of the major scenes of Hanako’s pervertedness occur when he’s talking to Kou. TBHK has a very realistic portrayal of male friendship imo, and this is one of those examples. Having a girlfriend isn’t the only thing Hanako’s missed out on, he also hasn’t been able to make any friends his own age. He’s trying to get Kou to engage in “locker room talk” as a way to bond with him. Whether he’s trying to convince him to share his own preferences, or just wanting to mess with him, it brings them closer in a way. One of the main ways Hanako expresses affection is by annoying people, but I do think part of it is because he wants to be able to talk about hot girls with his only male friend. Sadly, he got stuck with the only middle school boy who respects women
We as a fandom tend to focus on these scenes as “omg Hanako’s a pervert,” or for people that ship him with Kou it’s “aww he’s teasing his boyfriend,” but I think the purpose is more-so to build a realistic friendship dynamic. I find it funny that the fandom as a whole leans more into the teasing explanation whether they ship Hanako and Kou or not, it’s funny to me that we all automatically go with the gay interpretation. But Hanako often uses jokes to cover up his deeper feelings, he acts like he doesn’t care when he actually cares very deeply. So him playing up his pervertedness in an attempt to make friends seems very on brand

My last piece of evidence against this theory is a bit silly and a lot of ya’ll aren’t going to want to hear this but Hanako is most likely straight
*the crowd boos me*
I know, I know, I love the bi headcanon too and I think it makes sense, but unlike with some of the other characters I don’t think it has a place in canon. He acts overly friendly with Kou sometimes but if you’re going to assume they’re queercoded, you have to assume the same about Aoi and Nene (both affectionate friendship that look a little queer sometimes). Shipping aside I read them as a purely platonic duo, if there are feelings on either side then it’s more likely Kou since he’s bisexual. Lots of people point out the scene where he flirts with Kou as a girl, and I agree that was gay af but I kinda think he was just trying to mess with him. And keep in mind that the first thing he wanted to do as a girl was look at girls changing in the locker room (yuri yuri lesbian yuri wlw gay gay lesbian yuri)
This isn’t to bash anyone’s headcanons btw, I headcanon Hanako as bisexual and I do ship him with Kou. I’m just saying that I wouldn’t bet my money on him being intended to be bi in canon. In my post about possibly bisexual TBHK characters I included him as an honorable mention, I just haven’t seen enough substantial evidence so far to believe he was intended to be interpreted that way
I’m aware that sexuality isn’t the biggest obstacle for Tsukasa and Amane, but it’s a relevant mention. If Hanako doesn’t like men, I doubt he’d want to be with his brother of all men. Even if he liked men that would be a terrible option. AidaIro have also confirmed in one of their official arts/doodle skits that Nene is Hanako’s first love, which further leads me to believe nothing happened between him and Tsukasa. You don’t get with your sibling if you’re not ride or die about it. And as I mentioned before, anything that happened between them would have had to be consensual in order to be in-character and line up with the evidence surrounding the incest theory

Lastly, I do believe the love between the brothers is somewhat genuine. It’s horribly toxic, Hanako left Tsukasa in some sort of void for decades and now he continues to keep him around as a yorishiro despite knowing it makes Tsukasa miserable. He loves him so much that he can’t let him go even when it would be good for Tsukasa. That’s selfish, it’s toxic, and on Tsukasa’s side things aren’t much better. He adores his brother but he also resents him for everything he’s done. He hurts him emotionally and attacks his friends. And, of course, Amane killed Tsukasa. Not exactly Brother of the Year
But through all of this, you can’t deny that the love is there. Fans who believe Amane hates Tsukasa kind of miss the point, Tsukasa wouldn’t be Amane’s yorishiro if he hated him. He loves him dearly but in a very complicated way. Adding romance or lust to that love frankly doesn’t make sense to me, it’s adds an unnecessary layer that doesn’t line up with the rest of their dynamic. It feels like a “yes and” to their story. I have read analyses that explain both sides, and ultimately I remain against this theory
I hope this helped you understand my perspective!! I tried to be fair to both sides but as I mentioned, I’m very biased. This is a very uncomfortable subject so it was difficult to write about, but I like tackling more complex topics. I don’t block people who believe this theory unless I dislike the way they talk about it, some people insist it’s canon to the point of hating Tsukasa for it or saying the series is bad. But for those that are more open-minded about this theory, I don’t mind interacting with them. In general though this is something I try not to think about lol

Update: Joshsbimbo situation. (now joshslolita)
tw: mentions of rape, SA, violence, abuse, incest, stepcest, substance abuse
I wasn’t gonna comment on this but someone asked me to. Please know that Joshsbimbo is back as Joshslolita (if the @ is not concerning you i don’t know what will)
To refresh your memory, she has written fanfics with triggering themes such as rape, SA, violence, abuse, incest, stepcest, substance abuse, and probably a lot more with a character played by Josh, Mike Schmidt.

And yes, is fanfiction, but these themes are not something to romanticize.
Joshbimbo has also reblogged ai images putting the image of Josh Hutcherson in clearly sexualized scenarios, and has called a minor a slur. (that apparently she can claim) either way, you shouldn’t call strangers slurs.
For more information click here
For everyone, be understanding, you don’t know what someone is going through. DO NOT send dead threats.
To joshsbimbo if you somehow manage to see this even if I blocked you. I’m sorry people sent dead threats, I am. I don’t know why you’re into the stuff you’re into or if there’s a reason behind them. However, this is concerning and honestly, so unhealthy. This is not us as a fandom kink shamming you. Is us being concerned for others that might stumble into your stuff that has not been tagged correctly, or impressionable people that will fall into the rabbit hole of sexualizing these real possible scenarios.
1 in 4 adult women had been victims of physical violence by a partner. Over 1 in 3 women in the US have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by a partner in their lifetime.
This is not fiction. For a lot of women, transgender people, and non-binary people this is our reality. And now more than ever, we need to stop romanticizing violence and abuse.

POSEIDON ACTUALLY WENT AND GOT HERA RUN
Fuck her. I’m not scared.
Ooc undercut for my own personal rule. Tw inc*st and SA mention
Ooc: just wanted to say this now.
I’m fine with the whole overthrowing Zeus. It’s cool. But I really don’t want to interact with any Hera blogs or anyone that he has been with.
As those are usually never good relationships and involve incest, abusive relationships, affairs, and SA. Which I do not feel comfortable with roleplaying or even discussing.

Problematic Relationships (Non-Platonic) Competition List — Canonical
TWs: The Holocaust, genocide, Nazis, pedophilia, incest, grooming, sexual assault, rape, child sexual assault, sexual slavery, confinement, torture, abuse, physical assault, pregnancy, gang rape mention, starvation, miscarriage, slavery, abusive marriage, stalking, suicide, date rape drug mention, trauma, human trafficking, cancer diagnosis mention, gaslighting, financial abuse, and much, much, more.
• I'm going to compare problematic relationships with one another and rate them from least to most problematic.
This list will focus on the ways that the couples have wronged each other — dysfunctionally or abuse-wise — whilst together (sexually or romantically) in an unequal, official/long-term or long-enough relationship; a week or two (minimum), several weeks, or months. Therefore, actions committed during a couple's enemy era won't bolster their problematic ranking if it's just your run-of-the-mill, enemy vs. enemy/hero vs. villain fare —unless their enemy–enemy relationship became abusive; e.g., the villain turned his defeated nemesis into a sex slave and mistreated them for months.
Enemies-to-lovers pairings won't be considered more problematic by default.
Proximity required, so the characters must be close at hand. Examples: workplace, neighbors, visiting each other's homes, living together, imprisoned at the abuser's place, etc.
Defining what an abusive relationship is: Let's look at Kilgrave and Jessica Jones' forced coupling! Non-consensual as it was, their time together still counted as a formal/long-term sexual relationship (only Kilgrave considered it "romantic"). The relationship was marked by an ongoing pattern of one-sided power and control over the victim, and repeated mistreatment.
FYI: This isn't me downplaying rape and murder.
Rape and murder/attempted-murder aren't always going to make a pairing more problematic than one that lacks those things. The non-SA relationships can be absolutely horrible in other ways: isolation, torture (mental and/or physical), graphic physical abuse, dehumanization, decades-long mistreatment, an inescapable relationship, slavery, lobotomization, mind-control, etc.
Murder attempted during the enemies phase of an enemies-to-lovers pairing will not count as problematic points against these pairings by itself, unless the attempted-murder took place in an abusive relationship.
Age gaps won't bolster a couple's problematic factor, unless the older party took advantage of said age difference for self-serving and/or abusive purposes.
A properly handled or good enough "grovel" scene/redemption will reduce a pairing's problematic ranking. A shoddy one will not change anything.
• At least one person in the relationship must have sexual and/or romantic feelings towards the other half. Thus, forced relationships like Jessica Jones/Kilgrave can be included here. Unrequited relationships, too. These will be pointed out.
What if the people involved weren't together (an unrequited dynamic), but the offending character kept engaging in a pattern of creepy behavior towards their crush — such as taking no for an answer, stalking them, forcing them into unwanted situations, and so on — with the intention of obtaining the person however they can, their protests be dammed? The offending person's end goal here is a serious relationship or sex, and their misbehavior is ongoing, so this unrequited dynamic can be considered a toxic relationship.
A friend-to-lovers situation counts as a relationship.
While attraction did exist between Rey and Kylo Ren, they weren't canonically in a committed relationship, nor were friends. They were strangers. However, I've included them on this list to show everyone how tame the pairing is.
• Character on Left (offending partner/Character on Right (wronged partner).
If these characters aren't in an abusive relationship, the former is the most problematic one. Not going to list down every single thing the offending partner did.
Mutually dysfunctional, unrequited, and abusive relationships will be pointed out.
• I will be using the term "trauma bonding" instead of Stockholm syndrome.
• Redeemed offending partners get a star. ☆ But not if their redemption was handled shoddily.
• Suggestions are welcome!
Spoilers ahead!

▲ Aric von Schmidt/Hadassah Benjamin | For Such a Time by Kate Breslin | A Nazi Concentration Camp Commandant
—Dubiously-consensual relationship —Imprisonment —Trauma/PTSD —Schmidt was a Nazi concentration camp commandant. —Saved Hadassah's life, but threatened to send her back to a worse camp if he caught her deceiving him. —Dubious-consent —Tricked her into kissing him (this was their first kiss). —Pressured her to marry him. —Got angry with her when he found out she'd been hiding her true identity as a Jewish person from him. —Arrested Hadassah and had her sent to the ghetto. —I believe he would have gone along with the Wolkenbrand directive (annihilation of all remaining prisoners at the concentration camp), if he hadn't been pushed into action. He would have kept abiding by his sense of duty. —Don't care if Schmidt did not abuse nor rape her, and Breslin redeemed him: this Nazi was the head of a concentration camp. Schmidt contributed to the extermination of Hadassah's people by being there. It doesn't matter if he "wasn't as bad those other Nazis," he participated in the Final Solution, and I'm going to hold that VERY much against him. Lastly, his character plays into the "Clean Wehrmacht" myth. —You know what else really sucks about this guy? His excuses: "I must perform my duty–" Stow it, Schmidt. You're not going to "lesser evil" your way out of this one, Mr. Camp Commandant.
2nd Place
▲ Humbert Humbert/Dolores Haze | Lolita | Unreliable Narrator Predator
—Forced relationship —Age gap exploited —Grooming —He was Dolores' stepfather —Dehumanization —Treated Dolores as an object for his pleasure. —Obsessed —Manipulative —Controlling —Possessive —Kidnapping —Abuse —Rape —Sex prisoner —Trauma/PTSD —Desired a future in which he could impregnate Dolores and obtain a daughter; Dolores' replacement for when she became 15 years old and he lost interest in her. Then, he would repeat the process with his granddaughter. —Probably murdered Dolores' mother. —Ruined Dolores' life and took away her childhood. —Unredeemed
3rd Place
▲ Richard Payne/Elizabeth | The Dark Obsession Series by Zoe Blake | The Gaslighting King
—Possessive —Ruined the lives of people who touched "his property". —Lizzie ended things between in the prequel over Richard's control freak nature; he wanted her to no longer need a mobile phone, school, friends, or a job. Just him. For her life to revolve completely around him. Unfortunately, "no" isn't a word in the duke's vocabulary. —Stalking —Kidnapping —Rape —Dehumanization (treats Lizzie as a possession.) —Started treating her like his sex slave because she had "failed at being treated like a girlfriend." —Sex prisoner —Forced relationship —Abuse —Richard will never stop playing mind games with her. Easing his boredom is what matters most to him. —Trauma bonding —Used EXPERIMENTAL, memory-erasing pills to make Lizzie forget their initial relationship AND continued feeding her these pills. As a result, her memories are unreliable – making her more prone to gaslighting. —Obsessed (both of them, but Lizzie's obsession is self-destructive.) —"When she auditioned for the play I specifically produced to ensnare her, she had no idea she was really auditioning for me. For her new lifetime role as my ward, my possession." —Controlling —Richard is a fan of the 1800s. You see, women back then didn't have rights. They couldn't simply leave their husbands; "It was a time where a woman knew her place and accepted a man’s rightful dominance over her. That was what I found the most appealing. The vulnerability and dependence of a woman on a man’s benevolence. In the Victorian era, a woman was still regarded as a beautiful possession, to be petted and spoiled but also kept docile with a firm hand." —MANIPULATIVE (this guy makes Slade [Teen Titans (2003)] look like an amateur.) —"It was a false assumption that only those of low intelligence could be manipulated. Everyone assumed that a person of intelligence would think through the issue and see right through the lie, but that wasn’t the case. An intelligent person was far more likely to overthink, turning it over and over in their head, and second guess the issue, thereby falling into the hands of the manipulator." —Gaslit Lizzie into thinking she was "actually" a crazy woman from the Victorian era. Then, in the third book, Richard staged his own shooting and took a bullet as part of a scheme to gaslight her some more. There are never any half-measures with this guy and his messed up mind games. —Made his victim think SHE was the cruel puppet master. —Trapped —The man is a filthy, stinking rich, billionaire duke (a modern one!). Lizzie could not get away from him even if she hadn't been hopelessly brainwashed into believing that she "wants" the abuse. —He paid a bunch of actors 1 million pounds (for a year of performance) to participate in his abuse towards Lizzie without them realizing it. —Torture (e.g., waterboarding.) —Dubiously-consensual relationship —Isolation (kept her away from friends, and worst of all, this couple's story ended with him putting her on a remote island.) —Unredeemed (Richard won.)
[Continued under the cut!]

▲ Kilgrave/Jessica Jones | Jessica Jones | The MCU's Nightmare Fuel Villain
—Forced relationship —Kidnapping —CONTROLLING —Slavery: Kilgrave mind-controlled Jessica with his super power. —"Jesus, you're a vision. Hair and the skin… appalling sense of fashion, but that can be remedied." —Abuse —Dehumanization —Sex prisoner —Rape —Torture —Forced her to kill someone and blamed her for it. —Trauma/PTSD —Entitled —Ordered Jessica to cut off her ears with a knife, but stopped her as she started slicing at one of them. She would have followed through with his command if he hadn't changed his mind, regardless of the pain. —Obsessed —Stalking —Possessive —Kilgrave denied that he was a rapist. —"Come on, it wasn’t all bad." —Unredeemed
5th Place
▲ Darren Davis/Jaden Wilder | The Stronger Series by J. Marie | A Predator of Girlbosses
—Forced relationship —Her body can't resist Darren. Her heart, however, has not given in to him. I don't think it ever will. —Kidnapping —Jaden, a mixed martial artist, was sold into sexual slavery via a human trafficking ring owned by Darren, a billionaire crime lord. —Rape —Sex Prisoner —Slavery (complete with a shock collar that can also measures her pulse, and contains a GPS tracking chip.) —Obsessed (what he feels for her is not love: she is like a drug to him.) —Dehumanization She's a pet to him. A possession he tattooed his name onto. —POSSESSIVE —Threatened to kill other men if she stared at them at for too long. It's not an idle threat. —CONTROLLING —Forces Jaden (a tomboy) to wear dresses, heels, the color pink, and other girly clothing she hates. No pants allowed. —Abuse (one of punishments involved breaking her wrist, and fracturing her ribs and jaw with his bare hands/arms.) —Trauma/PTSD —Manipulative (exploitation of trauma bonding and intermittent conditioning tactics.) —Isolation —Targeted/threatened to kill Jaden's entire family so she'd have nothing left if she tried to escape. And because she "belonged with him". —Darren got an uncle and he showed her a recording of how the uncle died: slowly and painfully. —She despises him. Unfortunately, her hatred turns him on. —Trapped —Darren is a billionaire. A crime lord. Way stronger than her (physically and martial-arts-wise). He has cops in his pocket, powerful allies on his side, and so on. —Torture —Life with Darren is a hurt/"comfort" rollercoaster – the "comfort" half part of the abuse. —He enjoys hurting her. —Tortured Jaden so hard that he broke this hardy, girlboss character. She only recovered because he wanted her to. Darren wants a toy he can tame over and over again, not a fully broken one. —"Between his belt, fists, and cock, by the time he was done, my body was one giant bruise." —Forced marriage —Made Jaden attend a sex trafficking auction with him to mitigate her PTSD symptoms through "exposure therapy". It didn't help her. —Unredeemed: This is a man who has broken many female slaves: he can't be fixed. Darren may care about Jaden – in his own twisted, messed up way – but he will always prioritize his wants over her happiness, and keep her enslaved. She'll never be his equal. Book five hasn't been released yet, but the other four have reinforced how much of a sadistic, unrepentant, and sick bastard he is. I hope Jaden kills this guy in book five.

▲ Anthony Rawlings/Claire Nichols | The Consequences Series [and the companion books] by Aleatha Romig | A Woman's Worst Nightmare
[Tony's worst misdeeds took place in book one.] —Took full advantage of the massive wealth and power at his disposal. As one of the top wealthiest men in the United States, Claire could not escape him, nor hide. —OBSESSED —Paid off 215 thousand dollars of debt she owed, indebting her to him; "I currently own you, until your debt is paid." —STALKING (Before Tony kidnapped her: Six months of secretly recorded footage?!) —Wait a minute, he kept track of her for six years, actually?! What's that...? The true answer is ten years?! —Dehumanization: In the beginning, he used her as an object for his pleasure. Felt that she "deserved" it for revenge reasons. —Manipulative —Influenced the course of Claire's life without even meeting her face-to-face. For example, he ended the young woman's relationship with a college boyfriend, Simon, by contriving a situation where the boyfriend ended up moving to another state for an internship. —Kidnapping (a date rape drug, GHB, was a part of his abduction plan.) —Forced relationship —CONTROLLING (one of the worst control freaks on this list, and that's saying something!) —Controlled every aspect of Claire's new life: what she could or could not do, her schedule, how she dressed, what she wore, who she could talk to, and so on. And she wasn't allowed to drive. —He even micromanaged her body language down to the smallest detail. —Rape —Sex prisoner —Abuse (he called it "operant conditioning": positive consequences for positive behavior — negative consequences for negative behavior.) —Torture —Isolation (used as a manipulation tool.) —Trauma/PTSD —She was always under surveillance by cameras in his mansion. —Made her watch traumatizing recordings of him abusing her. As punishment. —Enraged at a perceived betrayal, he beat Claire within an inch of her life. She nearly died, and ended up with chronic headaches moving forward. —Tony "promised" Claire he would try his best to never physically hurt her again, but only if she never gave him cause to hit her again. How do you think that went? —Trauma bonding: To such a brainwashing-esque degree, it was as if Tony had Claire under a kind of "mental thrall". The trauma bonding... was used against Claire in court. —Dubiously-consensual marriage (Book 1) —"Do you have any idea of the consequences if you did decide to leave me?" —She was completely financially dependent on him. —Kept her isolated from her sister and other people who weren't him or his staff. —POSSESSIVE: Tony ordered the assassination of Claire's former boyfriend, just because they had a friendly conversation and he got jealous about it! It turns out Simon died at someone else's hands, but I'm not letting Tony of the hook here. Intent! —A jealous Tony talking about himself and Claire: "At present I believe you need to concentrate on showing me my wife is first and foremost concerned with pleasing her husband." —After failing a secret test of his, Tony framed Claire for attempted murder against him by having her hand him a poisoned coffee on camera and then intentionally drinking it during a web conference. Making her look guilty. At court, the prosecutor (in Tony's pocket) successfully painted her as a lying, scheming gold-digger. —Once again, Claire could not escape nor hide from him. (Book 2) —The effects of Tony's "lessons" (molding her into a perfectly obedient companion) and "operant conditioning" (abuse) lingered on past book one, making Claire more inclined towards being compliant with him despite herself. This didn't get fully dealt with until far into book three. ☆ Redeemed: A pretty solid redemption arc! Tony's remorse and apologies were followed by actions. The CEO put genuine effort into changing his toxic, controlling ways; this involved modifying old behavior for the better, doing some prison time, getting therapy, admitting his faults and misdeeds, treating Claire as an equal, and standing by his promise to never take her agency away from her ever again. In short, Tony went from being a woman's-worst-nightmare type of control freak to a good husband.
--
Due to Tony's redemption arc, this pairing would rank lower than one containing an asshole CEO or billionaire character with the same exact misdeeds as him, but unredeemed.
However, as for John the Doctor/His Wife, they got bumped down because John (while also a controlling POS) wasn't amongst the top wealthiest men in the country. What's more, Tony, the extent of his power, and the control he had over Claire, beat John in the problematic and nightmare fuel departments.

▲ John the Doctor/The Yellow Wallpaper's Narrator | The Yellow Wallpaper | Medical Misogyny Personified
—Controlling —Manipulative —Confinement —Trapped —Isolation —Abuse —Torture (mental) —Trauma bonding —Infantilized his wife. —She went insane because of her dismissive, doctor husband. —John is 19th century patriarchy personified. —Unredeemed
8th Place
▲ Christopher Davenport/Anna Champion | Lemonade by Nina Pennachi | Silent Suffering
—Rape —Manipulative — Obsessed (with Anna and revenge; she suffered because of said two things.) —Possessive —Controlling —Forced marriage —Trapped (used her taken virginity and apparent pregnancy so he could coerce her into marrying him.) —Turns out she wasn't pregnant, but he threatened to make that happen if she didn't marry him. —Abuse —Trauma/PTSD —Chris used the 19th century patriarchy against Anna. —Wanted to control Anna and put the poor young woman "in her place," forcing her into the role of a doormat. —Threatened her family repeatedly to make her comply. —Got his victim's family to like him. She couldn't tell them about the rape, given Chris' threats, and her father's poor health. They thought he was a "good guy". An abuse victim's worst nightmare. —Her spirit took a severe blow when Chris destroyed her porcelain doll. —Trauma bonding —Unredeemed (at least he admitted that out of everyone, he hurt her the most.) —Why did he start treating Anna terribly? Rude behavior on her part. Nothing major. Unfortunately for her, his damaged ego can't abide small insults either. He was alluding to this when he told her she had "provoked him to do the unthinkable."
9th
▲ Valentino/Angel Dust | Hazbin Hotel | An Eternal Pimp
—Forced relationship —Slavery (owns Angel's soul) —Abuse —Rape —Trauma/PTSD —Possessive —Coerced Angel into doing sex work/being a sex slave —Physically assaults him —Takes a large cut of Angel's money.
10th Place
▲ Oh Sangwoo/Yoon Bum | Killing Stalking | No One’s Safe From This Straight Dude
—Forced relationship —Codependent —Stalking —Kidnapping —Dehumanization —Used him as a replacement for his mother. —Broke both of Bum's legs with a sledgehammer. —Rape —Sex prisoner —Abuse —Torture (physical and mental) —Trauma/PTSD —Coerced Bum into being his accomplice. —Trauma bonding —Murder attempt —Unredeemed
△ Top-tier starts here! △
🟥 Sean Culhane/Catherine Enderly | Stormfire by Christine Monson
—Kidnapping —Dehumanization (to him, she was a symbol of English oppression towards the Irish.) —Abuse —Rape —Sex prisoner —Jealous —Trauma bonding —Dubiously-consensual relationship —Trauma/PTSD —Gave her to his men to treat her however they pleased. He even encouraged their lust by fondling Catherine's bare breasts in their presence before leaving her with them. She wasn't raped and he took her back, but this makes up for nothing. I don't care if he did this in the heat of the moment: she would have been gang-raped if the five men hadn't stopped themselves. —Left her "to rot" in a dark cell for three months. —She was starved by his mistress. I'm blaming him too, seeing as he left the mistress in charge of feeding Catherine. —Sean and Catherine's unborn child starved to death. —Not that long after releasing Catherine from the cell and transferring her to a barred bedroom, he broke her ribs. When she was still recovering from her starved state. —Forced Catherine to go horse riding (her ribs were still broken, by the way) and she nearly died because of that. —She became catatonic-like over the death of her unborn child. —Shoddy redemption: Feeling guilt alone just won't cut it, especially when the abusive behavior keeps happening. Well, at least he also got whumped by the story.
🟥 Derek Hawke/Marietta Danver | The Marietta Danver Trilogy by Jennifer Wilde
—Slavery —Dubiously-consensual relationship —Controlling —Abuse —Hawke would have given the woman he liked a "very sound beating" (his words), if a random copperhead had not bitten him just in the nick of time. Sadly, he survived. —Rape —I'm not going to rank Hawke's relationship with Marietta lower on this list simply because he only raped her once and wasn't rape-happy. Marietta and book 1 downplayed his douchebaggery plenty by pointing out how "less awful" he was compared to the other asshole dudes in this story. Hell, even Hawke himself did it some time after he forced himself on her (paraphrasing what he said): "Stop complaining, Marietta. You've had it easy these past months: I could have treated you so much worse — could have raped you from day one, for example — but I didn't. Do you see what a damn good master I've been?" Oh, btw, he only had 30 slaves instead of 100 like the other planters! Isn't he swell? Also, also, he didn't punish his slaves very often, but when he did, he gave them a beating they wouldn't soon forget. You see: Derek Hawke isn't so bad! /s Like with Aric von Schmidt, I won't let Hawke "lesser evil" his way out of this one. —Sold his lover, thinking she was going to end up in a brothel, out of spite. —Trauma bonding. —Shoddy redemption: Feeling bad about your misdeeds isn't enough, Derek. You have to change as a person, too. He didn't even apologize. —Kept being a jerk in the sequel. —Their relationship made her deeply unhappy. —Was never going to marry her on account of her bastard status. —Thought she would have been content as his mistress. —Did not bother looking for her after she got abducted by pirates. She looked for him. —And after finding him, Marietta finally admitted to herself that she'd always come fourth place to his ambitions.
🟥 Nikolas Constantinos/Jessica Stanton | All That Glitters by Linda Howard
—The story's main conflict stems from Nilkolas mistreating Jessica over her "gold-digging whore" status. Unbeknost to everyone, she was secret virgin, but this man and others deemed her a gold-digger because she married an elderly man at the age of 18. Not for his money, and she didn't have sex with him; theirs was a platonic relationship. However, people were judgemental jerks, so she got a bad rap. —Obsessed (Nikolas wanted to bed her very badly.) —Stalking —Trespassed into her home. —Forced relationship —Manipulative —Abuse (lasted for most of the book, and he didn't grovel whatsoever.) —Nikolas emotionally abused, intimidated, and non-consensually touched Jessica. —She was generally afraid of provoking Nikolas' temper. —Trauma bonding (it would explain why she fell in love with a man who treated her poorly more often than not.) —He didn't want to marry Jessica, and felt she was only "worthy" of becoming his mistress. But he ended up begrudgingly marrying her. However... —Nikolas made her sign a cruel prenup that, to name one example, wouldn't have let her keep custody of their children if she had divorced him. —Dubiously-consensual marriage —Trapped —About an escape attempt: "I would have had you back within two days at the most." —PTSD/Trauma —Rape (he bullied into having sex with him.) —Told her she had to fulfill her "marital duties". —Their first time having sex made Jessica fear him even more. —Blamed her for how roughly he treated her during their coupling. —Claimed he pursued her "out of love," yet kept making it about sex. I can totally buy that he fell in lust with Jessica, but love? I don't buy it at all. —The stupid, peach-colored wedding dress: She wanted a white one (her way of conveying her virginity) for their wedding. What did Nikolas do instead? He didn't respect Jessica's wishes and made her wear the peach one (a color he thinks a non-virgin should wear) anyway. Worse still, he never give her a proper apology for going against her wishes so cruelly. —Unredeemed: He continued to be a prick, even after discovering the truth about Jessica's virginity. Didn't grovel or change for the better. Thus, I won't give him props for doing the bare minimum, and telling her he was going to tear up the messed up prenup agreement. He shouldn't have made her sign it in the first place. What's more, an actual gold-digger wouldn't deserve that kind of treatment either, period.
🟥 Anthony Welles/Cassie Brougham | Devil's Embrace by Catherine Coulter
—Forced relationship —Dubiously-consensual relationship —Obsessed —Manipulative —Stalking —Dehumanization —Welles couldn't get Cassie's mother, so he become obsessed with her as well. Didn't see Cassie as her own person until she turned 17. —Age gap exploited —Grooming —"I’ve never known a man to raise his own wife." —Kidnapping —Rape —Trauma bonding —Welles had his cousin (Cassie's governess) raise Cassie to his liking. She helped him kidnap her. —Unredeemed (he got everything he wanted.)
🟥 Fire Lord Ozai/Ursa | Avatar: the Last Airbender
—Forced marriage —Isolation —Rape: Technically, yes. She never wanted to marry him in the first place. —Controlling —Abuse —Trauma/PTSD —Ozai also abused their children. —Jealous —He mistreated Zuko in particular as a way of punishing Ursa. —Unredeemed
🟥 Heathcliff/Isabella Linton | Wuthering Heights
—Forced marriage (Isabella wanted to marry Heathcliff at first, but changed her mind when she found herself trapped in her horrible marriage.) —Married her as part of his revenge scheme, not because he liked her. The guy hated Isabella so much, he wished he could "beat her black and blue." However, Heathcliff couldn't go all out on her (physically speaking). Practical reasons. —Imprisonment —Controlling —Manipulative —Abuse —Rape —Murder attempt (Heathcliff throwing a knife at her, hitting her in the neck, definitely counts.) —He would have certainly given her quite the beating if Hindley hadn't tackled him. She escaped Wuthering Heights at last. —Abused their son, Linton. —Linton died, mostly because of Healthcliff's neglect. His father didn't want to spend money on a doctor for him. To Heathcliff, Linton's life was "not worth a farthing." —Unredeemed
🟥 Apollo/Persephone | Lore Olympus
—Unrequited —Rape —Trauma/PTSD —Entitled —Obsessed —Manipulative —Stalking —Took advantage of his higher position. —He blackmailed Persephone to keep quiet about her sexual assault, or else he would have spread the photos he took of that moment. —Kept trying to force marriage upon her. —Tried using a True Love arrow (forced love) on the goddess —Unredeemed, and I stand by this: the arrow (it pierced him instead of Persephone) forced Apollo into feeling terrible regarding his actions towards Persephone. That's not true redemption: the key thing about a redemption arc is the desire to change as a person on the villain's part. Willingly. Apollo wouldn't have ever done that on his own, period. He didn't regret any of his misdeeds.
🟥 Christian Grey/Anastasia Steele | Fifty Shades
—Controlling —Wanted Ana not to work. He even bought the company she worked for to have more control. —Manipulative —The goddamn BDSM contact, and the NDA (non-disclosure agreement). >:c —Stalking (purchased Ana's place of work and tracked her cell phone.) —Abuse —Rape —Possessive —At an art gallery show, Christian bought a whole set of photographs of Ana so no one else could look at them. —Isolation —Did not want Ana to have a child. He was afraid she would chose it over him. —Shoddy redemption
🟥 Mr. B/Pamela Andrews | Pamela, or Virtue Rewarded by Samuel Richardson | Proto-Romance Novel | Proto-Fandom; Pamelists vs. Anti-Pamelists | People Wrote Pamela Fanfiction
—Unrequited (until it wasn't) —Dubiously-consensual relationship —Treated Pamela as his property. —Mr. B certainly took advantage of his position as Pamela's employer and master. —Would NOT take no for an answer. —Forcefully kissed her many times. —Attempted rape (was interrupted every time by Pamela fainting.) —Kidnapping —Jealous —Abuse —Trauma/PTSD —Obsessed —Manipulative —Trauma bonding —Pamela contemplated drowning herself in the garden pond after her failed escape attempt. —Read her diary entries against her wishes. >:c —His offers were so underhanded. He would have gotten sex out of them if she'd said yes. —Disguised himself as a maid and got into bed with her. Tried taking her by force, once again. She fainted. —Watched her undress whilst disguised. —Changed his approach and started acting nicer towards Pamela to change her mind. Not out of remorse, at first. Underwent a genuine heel-face turn later. —Convinced her to marry him, getting what he wanted at last. —Shoddy redemption: At least Pamela became financially secure for the rest of her life. Mr. B secured an independence for her in case he died.
🟥 The Joker/Harley Quinn | Batman
—Manipulative —Controlling —Abuse —Joker treats Harley like a punching bag. —Murder attempts —Trauma bonding —Codependent —They are the Cycle of Abuse couple! Check out Mad Love, the Batman Adventures comic written by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm. —Unredeemed
🟥 Ahmed Ben Hassan/Diana Mayo | The Sheik by E. M. Hull | Proto-Bodice Ripper
—Kidnapping —Rape —Sex prisoner —Abuse —Dehumanization —Trauma/PTSD —Ahmed starting mistreating Diana in the first place because he was taking his hatred of the English out on her. —Dubiously-consensual relationship ☆ Redeemed: Good enough
🟥 Daemon Targaryen/Rhaenyra Targaryen | House of the Dragon
—Age gap exploited —Manipulative —Grooming —Brought her to a brothel in an attempt to ruin her reputation and sully her in the eyes of other suitors. That way, no one else but him would marry her. —Did not take her virginity there when he realized she was enjoying their outercourse. Couldn't handle not being in control that much, dude? He would have gone through with it if she hadn't been willing? —Left her alone at the brothel. —Murder attempt (choked his wife) —You bet I'm counting it as a murder attempt.
🟥 Coriolanus Snow/Lucy Gray Baird | The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
—Dubiously-consensual relationship (due to the mentor–tribute dynamic.) —Manipulative —Thought Lucy "was an exception to the rule". Hell, she "wasn't really district," even. This was Snow convincing himself that the district girl was "one of the good ones", so he could deem her worthy of him. —Possessive —Obsessed —Murder attempt/successful murder? —Unredeemed
🟥 Erik, the Phantom of the Opera/Christine Daaé
—Unrequited —Obsessed —Stalking —Kidnapping —Entitled —Controlling —Abuse —Murder attempt —Threatened to blow up the Opera and kill everyone inside (his object of obsession among them), if Christine didn't marry him. ☆ Redeemed: Let Christine go and never bothered her again.
🟥 Sebastian Everett/Isabelle Walsh | Virtue & Vanity by Astrid Jane Ray
—Forced marriage (their respective, crappy parents forced them. It wasn't Isabelle's fault.) —Trapped —Isabelle's godawful mother tricked (didn't let her read the contract) and blackmailed her daughter into marrying Sebastian. Unfortunately, the man mistook Isabelle for a gold-digger because he believed she wanted divorce money in exchange for providing him with an heir. Needless to say, she was in the dark about what the contract entailed. And Sebastian, feeling trapped... —Also blamed Isabelle, who he saw as her mother's "accomplice". Used this as a justification to mistreat her. —Made his wife drink alcohol and enjoyed her distress. He thought Isabelle's aversion to alcohol had been some purity act. No, it was the result of trauma. —Rape (happened the same day they got married; he made Isabella consummate their marriage, despite her frightened protests.) —“You can and you will. What did you think? That you could play wife to me? This is what you signed up for, baby girl.” (this is Sebastian treating her like a scheming gold-digger. A gold-digger would NOT have deserved it either. Marital rape is still rape.) —Trauma/PTSD —Abuse —Controlling —Terrorized her for a while, rape threats amongst his verbal abuse. I don't care if they were mostly empty (not entirely – he'd already resorted to rape once, and did not respect Isabelle's wishes); Sebastian knew she found his behavior distressing, yet he kept making them anyway. —"You won’t let me? Do you really think I need your permission?" —He slapped Isabelle so hard, her face got bruised. This was his response to the terrified woman locking herself in a bathroom. —Removed the locks on all the bathroom doors. —Made her sleep in the same bed as him. —Non-consensual touching: it doesn't matter if his touches had better intentions behind them now; she still wasn't willing at the time. —Trauma bonding —Dubiously-consensual relationship (did she have a choice?) —Intending to marry his lover again, Sebastian had Isabelle sign a divorce agreement without letting her read it. “Sebastian, I’m sorry but I won’t sign something I haven’t read.” (let her make choices, man.) —Shoddy redemption: Sebastian apologized many times and made amends. Changed for the better in significant ways before he married Isabelle a second time. However, he never really stopped imposing his will on her from start to finish. A significant strike against him, when you factor in his rape of her and the central issue at hand: Isabelle not having a choice. For that reason, Sebastian's redemption arc is flawed.

Medium-Tier/Orange
🔶️ King Shahryar/Shahrazad | The Arabian Nights
—Trapped —Shahrazad offered herself to the misogynist Sultan to save more women from getting beheaded. You see, he would "marry " a new one every night, then had her killed the next morning. Shahrazad kept herself alive by telling him stories with cliff-hangers every night, until she ran out of material on the 1,001th night. Instead of killing Shahryar, he married her. —Would have had her executed, if she hadn't been such a brilliant storyteller. —Heel-face turn: The Sultan became a better person as those nights went by. The tales' moral lessons sunk in, apparently. However... —Shoddy redemption: This guy didn't face any consequences for killing thousands of women.
🔶️ The Darkling/Alina Starkov | The Shadow and Bone Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo
[Before they became enemies.] —Manipulative —Darkling wanted Alina for her power. —Treated her as an object. —Had been manipulating and lying to her all along. —Her letters didn't reach Mal because of his orders. —Planned on enslaving her. —Unredeemed
🔶️ Queenie Goldstein/Jacob Kowalski | Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
—Enchanted (mind-control) Jacob to make him marry her. He he was afraid of getting Queenie in trouble with the Wizarding law, thus didn't want marriage. She didn't respect his wishes and made him do what she wanted. —Joined the muggle-hating, wizard supremacists. Said she did it "for Jacob", despite him begging her not to, but again: she didn't listen. Queenie regretted her decision in the third movie, but still... —Shoddy redemption
🔶️ Misa Amane/Light Yagami | Death Note
—Unrequited, but Light used her obsession with him to his advantage. —Mutually dysfunctional relationship —Stalking —Obsessed —Forced herself into Light's life. —Possessive —Blackmailed him into becoming her boyfriend. —Told him she'd kill any girl he attempted to date. —Light wanted to kill her. —Abuse (Light) —Manipulative (Light) —Light only saw Misa as a puppet and never cared about her.
—Unredeemed
🔶️ Hal Stewart/Roxanne Ritchi | Megamind
—Unrequited —Obsessed —Stalking —Would not take no for an answer. —Possessive —"This is for stealing my girlfriend!" —Self-centered —Entitled —"You're supposed to be with me!" —Left Roxanne stranded on top of a building after she told him they would never be a thing. —Murder attempt —Unredeemed
🔶️ Scott Blackstone/Sydney Evans | You Can Have Manhattan by P. Dangelico
—Forced marriage (marriage of convenience.) —Scott's father, Frank, blackmailed him into marrying Sydney for the sake of his land. Sydney agreed to marry Scott so she could become the new CEO of Frank's company. —Mutually dysfunctional relationship (they both disliked each other initially.) —Was taking his anger at Frank out on Sydney. It's not her fault your asshole father resorted to blackmail, Scott. —Possessive —Had Sydney stay in a crappy, unheated cabin with no hot water. In the dead of winter. And made her think it was his actual home, but no: he was sneaking off to his super comfortable mansion, where he took hot showers, whilst she froze her butt off. Sydney lived in the cabin for three weeks and slept on an inflatable mattress there. Worse still, he never even apologized for any of it. >:c —She kept Frank's cancer diagnosis secret from her husband at the old man's behest. Scott's reaction went too far. —Scott purported to love his wife, yet he publicly humiliated Sydney (at her place of work) before the board of directors and fired her from her position as CEO of the Blackstone company, singlehandedly destroying this work-oriented businesswoman's career and her reputation in a matter of days. Plus, announced that he planned on divorcing her while he was at it. —"I'd known exactly how to hurt her––take away what she held most dear, the only thing she had left: her career. And I’d gone after it with everything I had, hadn’t I? It was a maneuver straight out of the art of war by Frank Blackstone." [Very calculated of you. It wasn't done in the heat of the moment.] —Shoddy redemption: I don't care if Scott gave Sidney the company at the end; his retaliation towards her was very much out of proportion to her supposed misdeed, and he didn't try to fix her ruined reputation. This guy did not atone enough for worst offenses.
🔶️ Andre Grandier/Oscar François de Jarjayes | The Rose of Versailles
—Jealous —Possessive —Sexual assault —Forcefully kissed Oscar, held her down, and started to tear at her shirt. He stopped there. —Murder attempt —Nearly poisoned Oscar because he couldn't have her. Fortunately, he changed his mind just in the nick of time, and stopped her from drinking the poisoned drink. —Never told Oscar that he tried to kill her.
🔶️ Kuvira/Bataar Jr. Beifong | The Legend of Korra
—Murder attempt —Kuvira tried to kill her enemies (who were all gathered in one spot) by blasting them with spirit energy, even if that meant killing Baatar alongside them. For the sake of conquest. —She kept excusing what she did to him: "it broke my heart when I had to choose the Earth Empire over a life with you." No, she didn't. If their positions had been reserved, Baatar wouldn't have done it. ☆ Redeemed: Flawed and rushed redemption arc, but I can live with it. Regarding Baatar... I disliked that she didn't properly apologize to him.
🔶️ Anakin Skywalker/Padme Amidala | Star Wars
—Obsessed —Controlling (in the Clovis episodes, unfortunately) —Possessive (Clovis arc, once again) —Force-choked his pregnant wife out of anger. —Murder attempt (he force-choked her until she lost consciousness!) —Murder (indirectly) —Padme would have hated how Anakin treated their children whilst he served the Empire. ☆ Redeemed
🔶️ Jacob Black/Bella Swan | Twilight
—Unrequited —Obsessed —Wouldn't stop coming onto her. —Jealous —Manipulative —Forced himself on Bella. —Threated to kill himself if she didn't kiss him. —Was going to kill her child. —Imprinted on the baby instead, and did not stay the fuck away from Renesmee.
🔶️ Fitzwilliam Darcy/Elizabeth Bennet | Reverie & Rancour: A Pride & Prejudice Vagary
—Forced marriage —Trapped (this story takes place in the 19th century: she couldn't simply divorce her cold, resentful husband.) —In this retelling, Elizabeth and Darcy ended up getting married on account of Mrs. Bennet's interference. He thought Elizabeth plotted with her mother to trap him into marriage. Elizabeth did no such thing, but he wouldn't believe her. —Abuse (of the emotional, financial, and neglectful kind.) —Financial: "Elizabeth would have nothing from him. No pin money. No settlement in the case of Darcy's death, beyond her own meagre dowry and lifetime rights to Pemberley Grange, a miserable cottage buried in the woods north of the great house. Elizabeth would not benefit a jot, and her husband's disdain would be visible to all the world. With no pin money, she would be required to beg him for the very clothes on her back. She would know his disapprobation and feel his generosity in even providing the shelter of marriage. Perhaps one day, she would be properly humbled, would beg his forgiveness and set out to win his favour. He would extend his largesse to her, of course, with proper evidence of contrition. Perhaps she would weep in gratitude, kiss his hands, fall to her knees..." —Worst of all, she got sick and nearly died because of her inadequate winterwear – which was his fault. Darcy didn't allot her enough pin money for the clothing she NEEDED. He said her "basic needs would be supplied", but nope! —Dehumanization —Didn't really look at his wife for months, hence the reason why her declining health went unnoticed by him She was a "siren" (threat) in eyes, someone he did not want to develop warmer feelings towards. —Took no action whilst his family members and servants disrespected her.
—Forbade Elizabeth from writing to her family. There was no contact at all for months. —"You are fair to your tenants, and your staff think well of you. I cannot but wish that you had at any time in our acquaintance shown to me the same generosity." —Trauma/PTSD —Shoddy redemption: I'm not giving him a redemption star for being a fair and generous man to his wife at last, which was the bare minimum.
🔶️ Shigure Sohma/Akito Sohma | Fruits Basket
—The Sohma curse bound Shigure to Akito. This made the Zodiacs obey her. —Mutually dysfunctional relationship —Obsessed (Both) —Jealous (Both) —Manipulative —Possessive (Both) —Shigure wanted Akito all to himself. —Withheld affection from her on account of his possessive nature. —Cheating (Both) —Self-centered (Both) —Controlling —Akito clawed his face when she thought he was going to leave her. —Shigure got what he wanted. —Slept with Akito's arch-nemesis mother to get back at her.
🔶️ Alessandro De Lucci/Theresa Noble De Lucci | The Unwanted Wife by Natasha Anders
—Forced marriage (on his end first, then hers.) —Theresa's father made Sandro wed his daughter and remain married to her until they gave him a grandson, or he wouldn't sell Sandro's father's vineyard back to the De Luccis. As a consequence, Sandro ended up resenting Theresa. He thought she had been aware of her father's plan, but no. She wasn't guilty of anything. —Abuse (emotional; unapologetic, cold demeanor, lack of affection, no direct eye-contact, put-downs, didn't bother learning anything about her, nor introduced her to his friends and family. :c) —This abuse went on for almost two years. —Domineering —Prevented Theresa from divorcing him, using a loan he gave her cousin as leverage. He wanted that son first. If she left him, the cousin would lose her business. —"I have no respect for you, Theresa. . . not even as the potential mother of my child because, quite frankly, you can't even do that right." (he apologized, but still: terrible thing to say to someone who miscarried.) —Persistent (for good and for ill.) ☆ Redeemed: Sandro spent most of the book groveling and making amends. A very satisfying redemption arc!
🔶️ Edward Rochester/Jane Eyre | Jane Eyre
—Manipulative —Gaslit Jane about Bertha's existence in his home. —Lied about being single. —Pretended to be engaged to Ingram, so he could make Jane jealous. —Almost made Jane commit bigamy with him. —Controlling —Told Jane he would "try violence" (most likely an empty threat?) against her. ☆ Redeemed: Rochester changed for the better.
🔶️ Gilbert Truman/Rose Davenport | Unforgivable by Joanna Chambers
—Unrequited (how it started.) —Forced marriage —Surviving her near-death experience with the chickenpox left Rose looking "plain". —Self-centered (Gil) —It wasn't Rose's fault she and Gil ended up married. —He only remained with her for about one month following their wedding. —Dumped Rose at a faraway estate, and did not visit her at all for five years. —Spent those years sleeping with many other women in London. —He never accepted her invitations back to the estate for Christmas during said five years. >:c —Didn't start giving a damn about her until she was pretty. —Jealous (Gil) —Would not let go of the resentment he still felt for Rose. —He finally felt entirely sorry about his poor behavior towards her after she had a miscarriage. —Shoddy redemption —I'm 100% certain Gil would have never, ever changed his mind about Rose if she'd remained an "ugly duckling". The man is a shallow bastard.
🔶️ Minthe/Hades | Lore Olympus
—Mutually dysfunctional relationship —Cheating (Both) —Abuse —Minthe was the abuser, period. —Slapped Hades and told him he looks like his abusive father, triggering him. —Used the "nobody else would ever want you" abuse tactic. —Obsessed (She wouldn't accept that their relationship was over. Not until her...) ☆ Heel-face turn: Not a redemption arc, but she stopped bothering her ex.
🔶️ Velma Dinkley/Shaggy Rogers | Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated
—Obsessed —Controlling —Velma criticized Shaggy excessively. —She tried to change his personality. —Shaggy was afraid of her. —Told him he had to choose between her and Scooby. —Her behavior was emotionally abusive. ☆ Redeemed: She improved as a person after breaking up with Shaggy.
⇧ Medium-Tier starts here! ⇧
Lower-Tier/Yellow
🟡 Rose Quartz/Pearl | Steven Universe
—Dubiously consensual relationship (the way it began...) —Slavery —Rose's owned Pearl: this (and the reason below) is why Pealrose ranked this high in this tier. For all of the other yellow-tier couples' flaws and dysfunctions, they didn't start off in a master/slave relationship. —Rose's final order to Pearl as Pink Diamond: Pearl couldn't physically disobey it. Rose exploited her lover's built-in slave programming to prevent her from revealing Rose's true identity.
—Codependent —Obsessed (Pearl) —Jealous (Pearl)
🟡 Severus Snape/Lily Evans | Harry Potter
—Unrequited —Was friends with Slytherins who were bigoted towards Lily. —Called her a slur in his anger. —Joined a hate group that went after people like Lily. —I can't stress enough the part about him joining the hate group whose activities led to Lily's murder at Voldemort's hands. Snape should have known it would have come to this eventually, one of his people targeting and killing her. —Bullied her son. ☆ Redeemed
🟡 Sakura Haruno/Sasuke Uchiha | Naruto
—Obsessed —Sasuke found her annoying. —He was an absent husband. —Stalking —Entitled —Sakura wore him down into marrying her.
🟡 Sissi Delmas/Ulrich Stern | Code Lyoko
—Unrequited —Obsessed —Manipulative —Stalking —Stole his diary. —Used said diary to blackmail Ulrich and make him go on a date with her. —Used her position as the principal's daughter to her advantage. —Exploited Ulrich's amnesia and told him she was his "sweetheart". Borderline non-consent territory right there! —Continued to pester him, even though he kept rebuffing her. —Did not apologize for her insistent advances on Ulrich. That said, she gradually improved as a person throughout the seasons.
🟡 Heathcliff/Catherine Earnshaw | Wuthering Heights
—Mutually dysfunctional relationship —Codependent —Jealous —Possessive —Obsessed —Stalking — "May she wake in torment!" —I don't think she would've been happy about him abusing her daughter and nephew, if she had lived.
🟡 Edward Cullen/Bella Swan | Twilight
—Controlling —Possessive —Stalking —Watched Bella sleep at night —Sabotaged Bella's car so she wouldn't go see Jacob. —Dumped Bella in the woods (he could have driven her home, at the very least) after breaking up with her.
🟡 Marinette Dupain-Cheng/Adrien Agreste | Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir
—Unrequited (and not!) This whole "love square" thing is silly. XD —Obsessed —Stalking —Possessive —Jealous — "What is she doing with MY Adrien?” —She memorized his entire schedule! Knew it by heart. —Has broken into his home. —She's tried keeping other girls from getting close to Adrien, romantically. —Adrien kept flirting with "Ladybug" and asking her out on a date despite her not being interested.
🟡 Maylen Ortesev/Alina Starkov | The Shadow and Bone Trilogy
—Mutually dysfunctional relationship —Jealous (Mal) —Possessive —Controlling —Self-centered (Mal) —Didn't want to see her wearing black ever again. —Did not accept Alina for who she was for the longest time. He wanted the powerless girl from their childhood back. —Got what he wanted anyway: she lost her powers at the end. —No apology
🟡 Catra/Adora | She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
Before Adora and Catra both became enemies (they were fully on opposing sides following "The Sword Part 2"):
—Codependent —Possessive —Resentment (on Catra's part) towards Adora existed even before they became enemies. —Catra tased Adora when she turned her back to the cat girl, and then again when she was down. —Was not going to let Adora defect from the Horde without hurting her. ☆ Redeemed
--
I used to deem Catradora abusive, simply because they're a friends-to-enemies-to-lovers couple. Their shared history changed the usual ETL dynamic, where these kinds of couples usually start out just a strangers/enemies, not people who were friends initially — was my reasoning behind that thought process. But you know what? I was wrong. The stuff Catra put Adora through happened during the enemies phase of their relationship, when they were on opposing sides as combatants who could hold their own against each other. It wasn't an unequal relationship wherein one partner was dominating and controlling the other.
Therefore, calling this ship "abusive" isn't accurate.
🟡 Daphne Blake/Fred Jones | Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated
—Mutually dysfunctional —Obsessed (Daphe) —Self-centered (Both) —Daphne needed to tone down the intensity of her love (and she did!) -Jealous (both) —In one episode, Fred made a ridiculously long/detailed schedule for Daphne. He had her follow to know her location, and what she was doing 24/7 (out of fear of losing her). Thankfully, he apologized and his sudden controlling behavior didn't rear its ugly head again. Well, aside for one line in The Night the Clown Cried II: Tears of Doom. —Speaking of that Crybaby Clown three-parter, he also had problematic moments in those eps.
🟡 Rio Pacheco/Jerrica Benton | Jem
—Mutually dysfunctional relationship —Rio cheated on Jerrica with... herself (Jem). Lol —Jealous (both) —Jerrica never told Rio that she's Jem. He "hates deception, and hates liars." It's part of the reason why she kept her alter ego a secret from him.
🟡 Ulrich Stern/Yumi Ishiyama | Code Lyoko
—Will-they-won't-they rollercoaster! Much drama arose from this. —Jealous (Both) —Ulrich was so jealous of an 11-year-old having a crush on Yumi, he told the kid to follow her around (something she dislikes). So she would get upset with the kid. —So much miscommunication.
🟡 Kylo Ren/Rey | Star Wars
The "join me" moment between them in Snoke's throne room, as they stood before each other at the tail end of their alliance:
Kylo was coming from an earnest place when he made his appeal for Rey to join him; "You come from nothing. You're nothing. But not to me." This line wasn't some Machiavellian attempt at isolating Rey, making her dependent on him, or whatever other abuse accusations people have lobbed at him. Kylo meant it earnestly: Rey's nobody background (she wasn't part of any major bloodline — pre-TRoF retcon) didn't make her lesser in his eyes. He wanted to rule the Galaxy with her as his equal With that said, he did capitalize on Rey's emotional vulnerability to nudge her in the direction he wanted. What's more, "letting the past die" entailed betraying her friends and killing them. Not an isolation tactic, but misguided/callous advice from Kylo nonetheless. -- Kylo and Rey are Star Wars arch-enemies. They weren't in a committed relationship, where there was a power imbalance and a pattern of abusive behavior. They stood on opposite sides of a war. Furthermore, his actions towards her are your typical Star Wars fare between two arch-enemies, and run-of-the-mill, hero vs. villain happenings; fighting, violence, kidnappings, murder attempts, trying to kill the hero's friends, going after the hero, attempting to get said hero to join Team Bad Guy, and so on. Kylo didn't even do any of that stuff to Rey out of sadism towards her. Like I said, standard hero vs. villain stuff.
⇧ Lower-Tier starts here! ⇧
Bottom of the list
The Green Zone (Not part of the list)
If someone comes here, telling me that, say, Aang/Katara is "significantly problematic" (or abusive) due to the time he hid the rendezvous map from Katara and Sokka, this is where it will end up: the non-contenders section, where the inoffensive pairings belong.
Aang came clean, apologized, and learned his lesson. He was a scared kid, not an abuser.
Hunter/Willow Park (The Owl House) is also incredibly inoffensive.
Undecided (Not part of the list)
• Hannibal Lecter/Will Graham | Hannibal
Definitely heavyweight-material, but I haven't watched the show. As a consequence, I don't know where to place them exactly. And their dynamic appears... not so clear-cut?
• Adam Taurus/Blake Belladonna | RWBY
Was Adam shown abusing Blake in the episodes? When they were still on the same side? As enemies, they were no longer in a relationship.

Killing Stalking and How Media Has Affected The Manhwa (SPOILERS FOR KILLING STALKING!!)
TW: Mentions of r*pe, m*rder, CSA, SA, being m0lested, incest, homophobia, fetishization of gay people, romanticization/glorification of abusive relationships, Stockholm syndrome
If you are going in on this without knowing what Killing Stalking is, then let me explain. Killing Stalking is a psychological horror and thriller manhwa from South Korea written by author Koogi, it ran from March 3rd, 2016 to March 22nd, 2019. The Manhwa is about two men, Yoon Bum, is described as a frail, feminine gay young man with a round or baby face, with dark circles under his eyes, implied to be eyebags, when reading the story, even if it’s simply the first chapter, you will find out that Yoon Bum is the “stalking” in Killing Stalking. Then Oh Sangwoo, is described as a handsome, charismatic, straight young man, he resembles the “killing” in Killing Stalking. The manhwa has been quite popular since it came out, but it became popular on social media, such as TikTok, in 2019-2021. Unfortunately, this manhwa wasn’t getting popular for being a well-written psychological horror but instead was being watered down to a Yaoi. If I were to go over the entire Manhwa, we’d be here all day, so if you do want to look into it, go ahead.
The two main characters of Killing Stalking have mental illness representation, which plays a key part in the series. Yoon Bum struggles with hypersexuality, Stockholm syndrome, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), and derealization. Sangwoo is a sociopath/has Anti-Social Personality Disorder (ASPD) and a narcissist.

Both Yoon Bum and Sangwoo had very traumatic lives as kids, Yoon Bum’s parents died when he was young so his grandma and uncle took care of him. His uncle would beat him with a belt, starve him and even eventually rape him.
Sangwoo’s dad was neglectful, and meanwhile, his mother took care of him, what was seemingly an innocent and wholesome mother-son relationship, would take a dark turn for the worst. His mother killed his dad when Sangwoo was a teenager and helped her hide the body, she ended up gaslighting him into believing that Sangwoo killed his own father, not her. He and his mother got closer, she would call him “babe” which she would call her husband, Sangwoo was obviously uncomfortable with it but never directly told her, yet he did confront her, asking “You’re doing that on purpose, aren’t you?”. His mother tried to kill him just like she did to her husband. He ended up passed out, waking up tied up in a basement. This basement led to his SA by his mother when he woke up. Sangwoo ended up breaking free in which his mother would sob and say she was sorry, it is implied that she killed herself, stabbing a knife into her neck. Sangwoo’s trauma played a huge part not only in the Manhwa but also in the fandom.
Moving onto the romanticization and glorification of the relationship between Sangwoo and Yoon Bum, and how the reasoning behind their relationship is foreshadowed. Sangwoo says in one of the last chapters that he should’ve killed Yoon Bum from the start and he regrets not doing so. The reason Sangwoo kept Yoon Bum alive is for sexual pleasure and the fact that Yoon Bum resembled Sangwoo’s mother, Eunseo. This is foreshadowed multiple times within the series, as shown below.
If you don’t believe it because of the foreshadowing, then maybe the final Q&A of Killing Stalking will give you an answer, screenshots shown below.
Honestly, I feel like someone will tell me that no one has ever shipped Yoon Bum and Sangwoo, nor has anyone liked Sangwoo or labeled the Manhwa as a Yaoi/Bl, but I do in fact have evidence:
Killing Stalking, in my opinion, is genuinely well-written for a psychological horror. I hate to see it be watered down to a Yaoi, even when the author said it wasn’t. Not to mention that Killing Stalking claims to have a live adaptation someday. To be honest, as a “fan” of Killing Stalking, I really don’t want it to have a drama made about it. It will just make the fandom rise again and I personally feel that any time a K-drama, anime, Donghua, etc. gets popular, especially among Western countries like America, it gets overly popular in a bad way. Take Squid Games, My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, and many more shows as examples of that. Not to mention that in Korea it is extremely hard to get lgbtq+ characters on-screen let alone get r*ped, have intercourse, or touch each other in any sexual or romantic way.
I’d also like to make it clear that I am NOT upset that it’s a gay ship, I am upset that it is an abusive/toxic relationship. Popular ships in shows (specifically in Asian media) are a topic for another time, thank you if you read this far throughout my yapping. Have a good day, and do not live in delusion like Yoon Bum and Sangwoo shippers lol

[TW: abuse, suicide, incest, matricide, pyrophobia, underage sex, Freudian mother-son relationships, mental illness, SA]
PART II OF MY VAMPIRE FICTION PHASE: DIABOLIK LOVERS
I seperated it because this guy *slaps like Apollo slapped Patroclus* deserves their own post. Also, despite the dark romance/felony of it all the soundtrack absolutely slaps especially 'Gin no Bara'.
So basically priest's daughter gets trapped as a blood bank to 6 vampire brothers who are the sons of the vampire king who is fantastically creepy and yet never around except when he's pretending to be the school doctor, but you just know he's fucking shit up. Damn it, Karlheinz.
So these 6 guys, they all have issues. MASSIVE, MAJOR ISSUES. I mean, if you think Madara from Naruto has issues? These guys absolutely win.
Let's start in order of whoever I can remember most.
1. Shū
Ah yes, Shū the eldest brother. I will say that if I had to choose who I'm stuck in an elevator with out of any of these people, I would probably pick Shū. Shū is basically the eldest child and he is the son of Beatrix, Karlheinz's second wife. Did I mention that vampire king daddy had three wives at the same time? No, well it's gonna be pretty relevant later. So Beatrix was the typical high expectation mom, she constantly told Shū that he was the heir and told him to behave appropriately. Think Alicent and Aegon from House of the Dragon, but Beatrix was much more severe with Shū who for all intents and purposes, was just a kid who wanted to play around with other kids, instead of banging servants. Anyways, due to Trauma™ involving his best friend dying in a fire (started by his younger brother, but we'll get to that) he's pretty apathetic towards everything and everyone. But when he does care, he will indeed pull you out of a burning building despite his immense pyrophobia. I don't know how, but out of all of them I'd say Shū is the most well adjusted individual but then again, the bar is in hell. Also, fun fact, this guy once got a part-time job as a cashier which I find absolutely hilarious.
2. Reiji
He shares a mother with Shū, Beatrix. Basically while Beatrix was busy trying to get Shū to do whatever the hell an heir is supposed to do, Reiji was pretty much ignored. However, in the game Beatrix catches Reiji studying and was like "good job" genuinely complimenting him, but then Reiji was like "you're bothering me". So I don't know man. The anime made him more sadistic and psycho in terms of personality which I don't think was really needed cause he's plenty psycho already. He seems to be the most well adjusted, but keyword being seems. So because he was ignored by his mom, he pretty much tried to get Shū's attention but like most older siblings, Shū thought hanging out with his younger brother was uncool and so what does Reiji does? This vampire youngling sets a whole ass human village on fire, coincidentally Edgar is in that village. Reiji thought "great, now that Edgar is out of the way Shū will acknowledge me!" but no. Instead Shū just becomes apathetic and a shell of a person. To those of you who've read/watched Twilight, this feels very Aro and Marcus but unlike Aro who is genuinely worried that Marcus might off himself, Reiji just feels bitter and angry that now his elder brother is ignoring him even more. But that's not the cake, oh no, the cake is that Reiji killed his mother. I mean technically he hired a vampire hunter to do it (said vampire hunter being Yui's adoptive dad. You know, the priest who threw her to the wolves. Literally), but as she was killed because Cordelia (one of Karlheinz's wives) was making her so miserable with life Beatrix died with a smile and she was also proud because Reiji killed her because to vampires, part of being considered an adult is committing homicide. And this pisses off Reiji so much, cause he wanted his mom to beg him to spare her life out of some twisted desire of revenge and when that didn't end up happening. Well, Reiji is motherless and bitter now. The anime really did him dirty, because in the anime they made him super duper serious and just very stiff and constantly degrading Yui for just breathing basically. Whereas in the game, he's a lot more chill than he seems and while he casually insults Yui, he casually insults everyone and I have to say his insults are good. Also in the game, he actually smiles so much more but it's a very condescending and bitter smile it's the smile of someone laughing at the world for how screwed up it is. I will say that he does casually poison Yui several times to test out his poisons, but he always gives her the antidote when she starts exhibiting symptoms.
3. Ayato
Ayato is basically Gojo if Gojo had no human conscience. He acts childish because his mother Cordelia was basically the same way Beatrix was to Shū. Cordelia, however, tried to drown him because pookie couldn't like solve a math equation or some shit. The bar is in hell, but Cordelia is by far the most horrible out of the three mothers. Anyways, he's pretty much a man-child with a propensity for being an ass. He sleeps in an iron maiden (with spikes removed) because despite beds being a thing in their mansion, dude just likes it and he does try to shove Yui into an iron maiden (without the spikes removed) but Yui was not having it. I wouldn't want to be stuck in an elevator with this dude cause he would eat me and make me suffer while he's at it.
4. Laito
Unlucky number four and I have to say out of all the brothers, he is my least favourite. The reason? Well it's simple, he commits SA just by breathing. Also, he's the one to nickname Yui 'Bitch-chan'. Listen, I get that he was sexually abused by his mother and Cordelia did her absolute best to instill sex = love even if that sex is non consensual. But honestly? I don't get the point of his character. What was the point of Rejet making a character like him? Because he is just plain sexually abusive. If it was to show how the abused can become the abuser, there are much more nuanced ways to do it than have Laito SA Yui every five seconds or something. Also, if we're talking about "the abused becomes the abuser" all these characters are already stunning examples please save Yui.
5. Kanato
To anyone into HOTD, think Larys Strong but with a teddy bear and his childlike. Kanato seems the easiest to bear with cause of his childlike attitude. That is until his temper completely flips and the next thing you know, he's threatening to murder you and would actually go through it. Kanato had a very fucked up childhood of his mother making him sing her songs while she's out here banging her brother-in-law because Kanato singing apparently gets her into the mood. Kanato likes to collect dead corpses and stuff them like animals which is why there's an entire hall filled with all the sacrificial brides before Yui. He says he can't wait to add Yui to the collection.
6. Subaru
Now Subaru, Subaru is sadistic as all his brothers are and ill-tempered. This man be punching walls and tables and breaking everything. But he doesn't really raise a hand to Yui at all. I'd say other than his shitty temper and blatant sadism, he is moderately bearable. Why? Well he's got self-worth issues you see. His mother was seduced by her older cousin (his father) and when Krysta realised that Karlheinz didn't love her, she went crazy because he basically convinced her to commit incest which is apparently a no no in the vampire world. Krysta thought of Subaru as an abomination and treated him like crap, but she then would oscillate between thinking him an abomination and her a sinner and feeling guilty for hurting him. Subaru looked after his mother instead of the other way around.
Anyways, this is my long overdue rant of fucked up vampire anime.
