So I THINK I figured out why my dad doesn't like Quarantine, and it's probably the fact it isn't a standard zombie infection.
IT IS in way of transmission ofc. Bites and all but the infection itself isn't standard it's just. A variant of rabies sorta thing.
O R maybe it's because he doesn't like found footage stuff (hypocritical because we love Cloverfield) and he doesn't like zombies being tied to it-

And if I say April Foolsverse Caelum should be a sadism demon what are y’all doing. If I said the most terrifying thing would be this 8 year old telling you to isolate and kys with a huge grin on his face as if what he’s saying isn’t incredibly threatening and fucked up what is the consensus because genuinely this would be my favorite shit
Freelancer: …
Sadism!Caelum: You should kys :)😃
Freelancer: YOU KNOW THAT THATS NOT APART OF YOUR JOB RIGHT? LIKE ME DYING DOESNT PROVIDE YOU FOOD??
Caelum: Yeah but have you considered it’s fucking funny
(He proceeds to have his mouth washed out with soap by Freelancer but escapes mid way through like a pissed off cat, hissing and hunching up in the corner to escape his punishment)

Hey just a quick PSA for everyone as we go into spring and summer. Been seeing a few posts mentioning "rabid pokemon" in an area, when really the term should be "feral pokemon." I don't want to nitpick, but there is a big distinction between the two.
Feral pokemon refers to pokemon who either were previously domesticated or come from domesticated pokemon. Examples of feral pokemon include "tabby" Skitty and Delcatty, which are popular housepets in Hoenn but are now an invasive species in Unova.
Rabid pokemon are pokemon that have been infected with rhabdovirus and are suffering from rabies. Rabies is highly contagious and almost universally fatal in humans.
I feel that it's an important distinction. For instance, if you hear that an area has an outbreak of rabid pokemon, you want to make sure to avoid it.
Some common signs of rabies includes frothy saliva, unusual aggression towards you and other pokemon, attempts to bite, an unusual aversion to water, seizures, and paralysis.
If you or your pokemon are bitten, go to your nearest hospital or pokemon center immediately. No, do not wait until symptoms appear. The faster you can get treatment, the more likely you are to survive.
Good news, it is highly unlikely that you'll come into contact with any rabid pokemon this spring. Rabid pokemon tend to avoid areas of high human activity. As long as you're aware of you and your pokemon's surroundings, you should be okay.
If there's any significant area of risk, have no doubt that the UDC will put out a statement.

hey yall wanted to say thank you <3 farm vet is coming out tomorrow to boost everyone and check over kpop (who was the one that 'discovered' it). was quoted 180 so with what i had + the help received it was covered and my bills for the rest of the month are covered too WILL be sending back payments as soon as my check hits the first of the month. i just did not prepare well for something like this and if it hadn't been this month (which i had a procedure across state for my gastro issues and our water pump went kaplooey last month PLUS gas payments b/c cold weather. it was literally a stack. i sat down after i calmed down trying to figure out where tf all my money went and most of the extra was a 300+ propane fill up due to the sudden cold) it would have been ok. meanwhile: i can officially say i have went head to head with a probable rabid animal AND ran through a wildfire for my dogs. i also got told by the biologist and game warden that came out i had balls of steel because i captured it in a rubbermaid tote i have seen rabid animals before but they were always further along (drunk, stumbling, a worry yes but not like... quick and chasing. i've never seen one like this) so seeing one that was early on and super aggressive is something really etched in my memory (i said on unleashed it reminded me of wardancing that ferrets did, but actually, it reminds me of the rabid fox videos. relentless.). the game warden dispatched one at the reserve that is ten or so miles from me this same week according to him. it was a really weird morning with a bit of phone tag at first because no one wanted to come out this far to dispatch but, but shout out to that same local reserve whose game warden was the one that got people to come out (animal control, biologist, and himself). they were very kind and listened to my worries and stuff. i am not getting post b/c i am 100% sure it never sprayed me, scratched me, or bit me (which means my state insurance will not cover it and fuck all do i have that amount of money lol. health department is not reporting it as a possible exposure). i was proactive keeping the tub between me and it while trying to get it away from the dog's kennel (it wouldn't let me get them back into the house). i am regretting selling my gun now but honestly i would not have been comfortable moving and having to dispatch at the same time anyway. it literally would not stop chasing me down. i did not have on my glasses and was in shorts and flip flops trying to deal with this thing after having just woken up. it was a very odd day and i did not have that on my 2023 bingo card. it did, at least, let me document explicitly a possible MCAS event due to adrenaline that i've been trying to remember to document as it happens for months now as i told @notfruits (who ty so much for listening to me sob about this and calming my ass down. same with reggie! yall were a lifesaver) i am either stupider or braver than i think i am when it comes to protecting the dogs

The saddest house eps so far off the top of my head have been the listeria babies one, the rabies one, the one where house detoxes/steals oxy/self harms/ODs, when house tells Stacy to stay with her husband, the argument house has with wilson when he makes the deal with tritter, vogler firing wilson from the board, the one where a guy's dead wife gives her heart to a dying teen, the queer son with the eichinococcus/father episode, the one where house unpacks his family trauma to the girl who was raped, and lastly the one wherr foreman had naegleria fowerli. Like these eps I will think about forever and forever.

"we'll just celebrate your birthday today" what if we didn't. what if today was super normal and actually maybe even the most average day ever and so is tomorrow. what if we didn't even think about what days were happening this week and let it go by super fast so we can blink and it's over. wouldn't that be nice

I have an incredibly fucked up idea for tmnt fan artists that just OOZES angst
Tw for disease, death mention, and animal illness/suffering mention
So rabies is like the scariest disease out there, it completely alters your brain chemistry to benefit itself and it KNOWS AND UNDERSTANDS ITS OWN WEAKNESS. It doesn’t just make you afraid of water, it makes you afraid of water BECAUSE it coagulates in the mouth (which is what causes the drooling and foaming at the mouth it’s most famous for) and drink water would dilute the disease so it not only makes you afraid of water, it makes it downright painful to even LOOK at it.
Now for angst.
What if a rabid animal was mutated? How would the mutagen affect the disease? Rabies is already dangerous enough and by the time you show symptoms you’re basically a lost cause, so what if the disease that’s closest to a zombie virus gets mutated and an outbreak starts?
I’m planning on using this idea for my own tmnt fanworks but this is free for anyone to use.

I've said this before, but I still wish that the TBC theory that Bramblestar got rabies was canon.
It's not that the possession thing was bad, it's just that I think rabies would be way more interesting.
I honestly think it's shocking that this series about feral cats hasn't mentioned rabies, even in passing, at any point at all (at least as far as I'm aware). They don't even have their own name for it or anything because it's never been a thing in the series. None of the cats outside of the clans have mentioned it either.
Though to be fair, having a rabies outbreak would probably fling whatever arc/SE/novella it's in into being horror and, despite the... everything that's happened in this series, Warriors is a children's book series.
Still. The rabies theory was very interesting to me

A’ight, so, as a self-proclaimed expert on the field of epidemiology for infectious and tropical diseases (since I don’t have a title that validates me just yet, it’s a work in progress lmao), this is the skinny of what’s happening with Rabies, take it with a grain of salt since I’m still compiling information and shitposting to organize my thoughts via shouting to the abyss:
1. 4 cases of supposed rabies (confirmatory laboratory pending, it’s new years, and of course the bureaucrats are having a field day). 3 in Oaxaca, southern Mexico; 1 in Nayarit, western mexico. The Nayarit and 1 of the Oaxacan cases are in grave state, 1 death, and the last one without showing any symptoms whatsoever because she’s just built different (actually, just got bit in the hand instead of the head, which is important because! This virus travels through neurons! And it only shows symptoms when it reaches the brain! As if that zombie shit wasn’t scary enough already).
2. The culprit for the Oaxacan cases was a bat that broke into a home. Unknown origin. Vampire bats (AKA Round Motherfucker Supreme) apparently tend to live further up north. However. It also fucking migrates and crashes into other bat colonies like that one uncomfortable cousin. So we still know absolutely jackshit about that.
3. The cases were in this one village, Palo de Lima, located quite literally in the middle of nowhere (or as in this case, Southern Sierra Madre), and that I looked up via geographical and topographical analysis. I found out that they’re so far into the mountains, their roads are made of dirt, and it takes between 4 and 5 hours for any kind of transportation to reach the closest settlement with a working hospital.
4. Bruh.
5. The Nayarit case was a totally unrelated case that occurred a few days before because this one lady let her cat out, bit her, and then died 3 days later. And now her health’s deteriorating, and they sent some samples to the center of the country so that they can identify the presence of Lyssavirus.
6. BRUH.
Should we worry about an outbreak? Probably not, although if the case is confirmed to the wildlife, nothing much can be done about it without altering the ecosystems surrounding them. However, this shit does absolutely show that hey, maybe our government needs to invest more in civil engineering to reach these far-off places faster.
TL;DR: Can we please get a less eventful year? kthxbai

@braveburned asked: “this place is dicey at the best of times. just take my hand until we’re clear of it, yeah?”
Tumblr media
Cassie wants to protest, scream and shout. She came here to save him not for him to do the defending...Yet the sound doesn't come out. Unsure if it’s the throat sore from all the crying and screaming or the bruised ribs holding back her usual fire. Fingers find their familiar place between his, as tight a squeeze she can in her condition, and the words finally find their way.
Tumblr media
“Were getting out….t-together. No h-heroics, no s-self sacrifices.-”
A wheezy laugh followed by a flinch, yep if the struggle to breath didn’t prove it…she’s definitely messed up a rib.
Tumblr media
“I’ll t-track you down wherever you go, life or death, and b-bite you if you do. You d-don’t want that….wouldn’t be surprised if I h-have super r-rabies after tonight.”
Super rabies? Yeeeesh maybe add concussion onto the ribs. Either that or the brain chip fried something……probably shouldn’t tell him about that one.

Rabies is like the scariest disease I've ever heard of, dude. By the time you feel the symptoms, you're already a dead man walking. We don't really have a cure, either.
All I'm saying is 1. Wheres the horror movie about rabies and 2. Where is the cure, bro??? We need this like, NOW
The fact that this isn't even a irrational fear is the worst part. It's SO easy to get rabies it's seriously scary. I'm just so glad doctors and scientists are working on a cure cause that shit is terrifying

Man but the notes on that post really are just tumblr showing they have no idea how anything works.
"report to your local animal abuse people not to cops" local animal abuse people would be animal control. Animal control officers are cops.
"rabies is treatable if you go to the doctor right after the bite" rabies is PREVENTABLE, not treatable. There is no cure for rabies. If you suspect you came into contact with a rabid animal, you need to get a series of rabies vaccinations to prevent the virus from taking over your body. This is not a treatment and it only works if you go right away. If you show any symptoms of rabies it is too late.
"rabies is fatal in animals but treatable in humans" rabies has a 100% fatality rate and is not considered a survivable disease at this point in time. If you contract rabies YOU WILL DIE. The "treatment" in humans is called the Milwaukee Protocol, only 14% of people survive it, and it leaves you with massive brain damage and effectively turns you into a vegetable. You do not return to a normal life afterwards. Very few people who have undergone this process are capable of doing more than laying in a hospital bed and eating and breathing through tubes. To my knowledge only one person was able to live a semi-normal life after years and years of ongoing therapy and was not expected to have made it even through her first year after treatment.
I cannot stress enough how rabies is unlike any other disease you may be thinking of. It's required on a federal level in this country to vaccinate pretty much any domestic animal that comes into contact with wildlife for one reason and one reason only: it is not considered possible to cure rabies and the spread of disease would threaten all mammalian life including our own if allowed to continue to propagate.
