You Can Hear It Still

It hits me in the hush of 6 pm: your season drifting close. By now, you've switched it out

for closer access to the sun, but it smells exactly the same – apple chests, old books,

smoke and cloves. For a moment, it was last night that we laughed on stone steps

along a rippling canal in Amsterdam, the rosy moon as ripe and as full.

We can't fathom it, really, can we? How few more times we will feel the season shift,

how little longer the street's stillness will taste like scaling fences

and borrowed clothes – like woodsmoke blurring the stars, soup simmering on the stove,

and murmurs intense until dawn while your bandmates sleep on the floor.

Kirsten Ortwed (b. May 28, 1948) is a Danish artist who works with scuptural objects, often in conceptual situations and installations.

Ortwed trained at the Academy in the 1970s, represented Denmark at the Venice Biennale in 1997 and has works in the major Danish museums.

If my mom sees a significant amount of blood she gets lightheaded, and has fainted on some occasions. Once it happened when we were kids, I wasn't there to witness it but I heard the story from my dad. Basically my brothers, around 7 or 8 at the time, were playing outside while my mom was making their lunch, and she accidentally cut her finger. It wasn't anything serious, but it drew a fair bit of blood and she passed out. My dad saw this and rushed over, but he didn't really know what to do so he just sort of started slapping her to wake her up (not recommended, but he had no idea and panicked)

At that exact moment my brothers both came in from playing, and all they saw was our mom unconscious on the floor and our dad slapping her. So, like, without even saying a word to each other they both just INSTANTLY start whaling on him, like, full blown attack mode to defend our mom. Which obviously didn't help the situation, but she did wake up and everything was fine.

Now our dad says that he's actually really glad they attacked him over what they thought was going on, because it means he raised good boys. And I still think that's true, they're very good boys.

watch for this as you scroll social media this evening:

israel today dropped a bomb on a refugee camp located in rafah, which, as a reminder, had been sold as a safe zone.

remember that this camp is made of tents, not buildings. this strike was dropped directly on families in the dead of night, with no shelter to protect them. many people have become trapped by the burning tents. we don't have a death toll yet, but it's likely more than 50.

the images coming out from this attack are among the most graphic we have seen out of gaza. do not look them up unprepared.

I think with Yor being so perceptive, she picks up on little things often (like we saw in ch 103). i believe this would impact loid more so than the usual person, because he is a spy and fakes every part of himself, so to be seen is simultaneously desirable and horrifying. like, it makes him torn between wanting to accept and reciprocate the love, or distancing himself so that it doesn't happen again.

thats mostly what the last panel is about, that dichotomy between 'omg this person noticed this about me, is this love' and 'oh shit this person noticed this about me, is this Doom'
