I've been re-reading A Hobbit's Gamble by CQueen on ao3 for the third time now and it had me imagining what Bilbo's clothes would look like if he stayed in Erebor and became Thorin's consort. I decided to create a balance between Hobbit and Dwarvish fashion for these two outfits, one being for the outdoors and the other for indoors. That being the the jacket, waist coast and capri pants mixed with capes and belts. The colour palette also become handy in creating that balance. I mixed Hobbit's bright colours and Durin's blue, which represents his statues in the royal family (This is also Thorin's favourite part of his outfits). It is often discussed how flowers and plants are important to Hobbits and with that I added embroidery of different flowers with meanings that are compatible with Bilbo. The flowers on his head are mostly just a replacement for a crown for day to day. Please comment if I should add something, I love reading your ideas!

Hey, what are Sun, Moon, Eclipse, and Jack O'Moon's favorite flowers, if they have them? If they do, have a bouquet each :3
So, inspiration for this response struck when all I had access to was my phone memo ^-^; Apologies for the terrible handwriting, transcript for the dialogue will be below.
Tumblr media
Transcript: Sun: "Literally anything but Sunflowers. Maybe birds of paradise. I looked up those represent freedom." Moon: "Uh, flowers? Ooh! Are there any flowers that bloom in the moonlight?" Eclipse: "Heheheheh, the Red Orchid. Specifically the symbolism of chaos." Jack-O-Moon: "Heeheeheehee! Dead ones."
Tumblr media
Transcript: Sun: Um… Thanks… (But they're all just going to die…) Moon: Whoa wait! Flowers that bloom in moonlight are real?! Eclipse: Thanks. I think I'll crush them. (In a book). Jack-O-Moon: Yesssss! Withered & dried fresh off a tombstone I hope <3"

Lilia of (Briar) Valley = Lily of the Valley
Lily of the Valley is one of my fave flowers.
Lilia Vanrouge just encapsulates the meaning of the flower:
Motherhood - the love he has for Malleus and Silver, does it really need to be said? He literally went from “kids are annoying” to “I miss those day when” when he mentions the boys.
Joy and Love - the love he has for meleanor and Levan, the love it took to hatch Malleus and wake Silver, his ability to change because of it, etc.
Purity of Heart and Soul - his younger self might say otherwise, but despite it all, he gave Silver and co a chance to leave and he protected them and fed them during a time of war. When humans by all means should have been hated even if it is a dream
New Beginnings - someone who literally changed, General Lilia Vanrouge to Lilia Vanrouge (the father)
Sympathy for the Departed - His grief for meleanor and Levan, yes, but I also raise you Knight of Dawn and Princess Leia as well. ‘Fae and humans are alike. We just want to protect the ones we love.’
Life’s Purpose - In short, how he changed from General Vanrouge to Lilia Vanrouge. He has a purpose, it’s his family.
Death - if the flower is eaten, it can cause death. You know, like Lilia, with his hatchet (he wouldn’t even need it, his bare hands are enough)
[twst flower language masterlist]
(Flower language differs by region and color, the meanings I know might differ from yours)

I noticed a fun detail about this cover!
Tumblr media
The flowers on this cover are related to LGBTQ+ symbolism in one way or another! Forgive me if my flower identification is a little rusty, but here is what I found (I cannot ID the yellow ones though, they are hard to see and I cannot find anything that looks quite right. Any ideas on what those might be would be super appreciated!)
Amaryllis: Commonly symbolizes both love and pride.
Lily: Often connected to the WLW community and is where the word for the genre yuri comes from.
Carnations: Specifically green carnations were popularized by Oscar Wilde as an accessory for gay men.
Hyacinths: A symbol of queer love due to the story of Hyacinthus and Apollo from Greek mythology.
Violets: Commonly associated with lesbian love and Sappho.

"I'm your lenient, mean, troublesome, adorable partner, after all.~"
First art to post of the year and it's Shinigami! She's such a fun character, and I can never pass up a good flower motif. The roses come in a variety of colours and meanings. Light pink for sweetness, lavender for enchantment, burgundy for unconscious beauty, and of course black roses for death. The other large flower in the design is the pink dianthus, shown in full pink as well as a more patterned pink and white. Dianthus literally translates to god's flower in Greek, fitting for a death god, and come in many forms, including carnations, Sweet Williams and China Pinks, but the variety I chose is a wild sort from the Carpathian mountains. Their meanings can range from admiration, passion, affection, capriciousness, love, gratitude, and of course, also death. Lastly, I included sprigs of baby's breath in the arrangement, that are supporting flowers much as Shinigami is a support to our detective. They can mean innocence, devotion, sincere emotions, hope, spirituality and new beginnings. Look forward to her as a charm in the future with a different look on the back~!

My best guess for the flowers:
Pink Gerbera Daisy: innocence, purity, cheerfulness and loyal love
Pink Gladiolus: representative of femininity, gentleness, and love—particularly a mother’s love.
Forget-Me-Not: remembrance, true love, devotion, and royalty
Nettle Leaf Mullein: courage and hope
Delphinium: big hearted
Craspedia: good health and wellness

Peppermint: While not a flower, peppermint is known for its invigorating and uplifting properties. It is associated with mental clarity, focus, and energy. Peppermint is often used for enhancing concentration, boosting vitality, and promoting clear communication.
Remember, these are just a few examples, and the metaphysical properties of flowers can vary depending on cultural and individual interpretations.
When working with flowers, it's important to tune into your own intuition and connection with the flower's energy to fully experience their metaphysical qualities.

Flower language:
WISTERIAS:
Wisterias symbolize romance in most cultures where the plants are native. In Korea in particular, the Wisterias flower carries the meaning of devotion that transcends death. The Japanese also consider Wisteria a symbol of good luck, success, and longevity.
