C210 Nissan Skyline 2000GT TURBO
Skyline Hardtop 2000 Turbo GT-E S Type (Alloy wheels, stickers, stripes are optional)
The dream 2000GT Turbo combines "fuel economy" and "high performance" at a high level, and its popularity is now skyrocketing.
Has there ever been a car whose release was so highly anticipated?
The 2000GT Turbo, which was rumored by the media as "the biggest news of the 1980s" and a scoop battle was waged, was finally released and unveiled, and its popularity has reached boiling point ever since. Specialist magazines gave it first-class praise, and critics who test drove it also gave it the highest rating. Is there any other car like it among the many domestic cars that are being produced one after another? With low fuel consumption that is in line with the times, you can now enjoy that forgotten feeling of acceleration. Its acceleration performance is so high that it can complete the SS 1/4 Mile (0-400m) in 16.6 seconds (with five passengers, in-house testing), and it is even available as Japan's first automatic turbo car.
Even if you have just gotten your license, you can start riding from that day.
The mildness and smoothness of the 6-cylinder engine
Furthermore, the Skyline GT is unique in that it is a turbo car.
However, the tuning is such that you don't even notice the turbo.
BOX CAPTION
A revolutionary mechanism that utilizes the energy of exhaust gases that was previously simply released into the atmosphere.
It looks like this advanced technology might even give rise to a copycat car.
How a turbocharger works The exhaust gas ③ emitted from the engine rotates the exhaust turbine ①, which then rotates the intake compressor ② on the same shaft, forcing clean air in like a fan blowing air.
The engine obtains a large amount of oxygen, which burns powerfully and cleanly, and with double and triple safety mechanisms, there is no need to worry.

Formula 1 2026 Engine Regulation Changes - TEXT BLOCK
I wrote up this explanation of each of the engine regulation changes for my WIFE and it's good enough I wanted to share it here.
Formula 1 2026 Engine Regulation Changes:
1: **New fuel must be 100% carbon free fuel, part of the FIA's plan for "net zero carbon" F1 racing by 2030.** ARAMCO is leading the research into the new carbon-neutral fuel. The goal is to be able to reuse municipal waste, food waste, or even gas pulled from the atmosphere to fuel cars. As of now it's being tested only in Formula racing, but the goal is to slowly release this fuel for road use as well across the world. Right now the F1 cars run on E10 (90% gasoline, 10% renewable ethanol). F1 and the FIA are the best people to lead this project because they know that full electric cars are not attainable for most people in the world and so replacing fuel with a carbon-neutral fuel (carbon is pulled from the environment to make the fuel, and the same amount is emitted by the engine. This essentially maintains the carbon equilibrium.) Formula 2 and Formula 3 are already running on a fuel mix comprised with 55% of this new biofuel. F1 is really driving sustainable practices. They are the first motorsport to use FSC (Forest Sustainability Council) certified tires, McLaren is releasing their new carbon fiber recycling (first industrial scale use), all of F1's DHL delivery trucks for European races run on 100% biofuel as of last year, all 10 teams have received the FIA's 3-star environmental accreditation.
2: **Increased electric power in the cars** - as of right now its 75% engine/25% electric power. The goal is 50%/50% by increasing the MGU-K unit from 120 kW to a 350 kW generator - this is what Verstappen is worried about as there isn’t an equivalent increase in battery size meaning the current ~30 second max boost from the electric motors will be reduced to ~10 seconds with the larger motor and same battery size. Drivers will have to downshift during straights to charge the battery more often, hopefully leading to closer racing as people won’t be able to just fly off using the electric motors.
3: **No more MGU-H** (this will help people like Stake or other small teams) - this was primarily driven by the fact that we have 2 new engine producers in 2026: Audi and Honda are joining the field and will need time to develop engines to catch up with teams like Ferrari and Red Bull. The issue is the MGU-H almost completely solved turbo lag (if you notice in your car, the turbo doesnt spool up until a certain RPM, the MGU-H spools the turbo from the time of acceleration, allowing for all waste exhaust to be used for charging the battery instead of wasting some spooling the turbo). This may lead to the return of Schumacher level throttle control to keep the turbo spooled during cornering. It’s going to be a learning curve for the racers who have only ever raced with an anti-lag system like the MGU-H.
4: **Reduced fuel allowance** - cars burn through around 100 kg of fuel per race, in 2026 this will be limited to 70 kg. The new engines ARE more efficient so it should equal out to the same power for less fuel.
The FIA is also pushing teams towards focusing less on raw engine power and more on aerodynamics and drag reduction to improve engine efficiency. Essentially, this is a test bed for the future of all high end racing by developing incredibly efficient powerful engines with a smaller form factor and better

Wipeout 64 on 64Dream (Japanese video game magazine)(April 1999)
Translation in English:
Title: Wipeout 64 Publisher: Coconuts Japan Entertainment Release date: Late March Price: 7980 yen Capacity: 64M Genre: Anti-gravity racing game Number of players: 1 to 4 players Remarks: Compatible with vibration pack and controller pack
This speed has never been experienced before!
An anti-heavy-car race that unfolds at overwhelming speed!
This is the third installment in the series, following "WIPEOUT" and "WIPEOUT XL", which were very popular on each hardware. Thanks to the N64's specs, the race scenes unfolding at overwhelming speed are scrolled really smoothly, so you can experience even higher speeds. Along with that sense of speed, the nimble techno sound, which is a big attraction of the "Wipeout" series, is still alive this time. Also, for the first time in the series, four players can play simultaneously. The game is not just a speed race, but a four-player survival race that is sure to be different and more exciting than the CPU races, as the system uses attack and turbo items to aim for first place.
↑ Use the 3D stick to operate the machine. When turning a sharp corner, use the left brake (Z button) and right brake (R button) to shift the center of gravity while turning. Press the left and right brakes at the same time to slow down
Fast and strong is the real winner.
The race is not only about the pursuit of speed. The shortest way to victory is to use weapons that attack other machines, to try to beat your rivals to the finish line while setting the fastest lap possible. Of course, your rivals will be attacking you, so you will have to think about both how to line up for the corners and how to avoid their attacks as you race around the track. Only those who combine speed and strength will be victorious.
SPEED UP ←The arrow marks on the track are “acceleration points”. If you pass over it, the speed of the car will increase. Of course, if you don't try to pass all these acceleration points, you won't be able to win.
CHECKPOINT →Each track has several checkpoints. If you do not pass these checkpoints within the specified time limit, you will immediately retire from the race, no matter how high your ranking is
WEAPON & ITEM ←The mark next to the machine is a "weapon mark". There are various things you can acquire, such as weapons that attack your rivals and items that power up your machine. If you use it, you can run the race to your advantage.
PIT LANE → When you receive an attack from an enemy or crash into a wall on the track, the damage of the machine accumulates. If you receive more than the specified amount of damage, you will be retired, so recover in the pit lane.
GOAL! ←The goal of the race is to finish in third place in order to advance to the next stage. The pressure for speed becomes greater and greater as you progress to the next and higher levels of the track!
4 Levels of classes
The game has 4 levels of classes from beginner to super advanced. Beginners with low top speeds can easily turn corners, but in super-advanced corners, if you don't skillfully take the line and move the center of gravity, you'll crash into the wall.
How to read the race screen
Check time That's the time limit before we pass the next checkpoint.
Lap record Fastest lap recorded up to that point. Let's break this one.
Weapon Icon The mark of the weapon or item you currently have is displayed.
Lap time The lap time of the track you are currently playing is displayed for each lap.
Current rank The number on the stone is the number of machines participating in the race, and the number on the left is your position.
Number of kills The number of rival machines shot down by you due to attacks, etc.
Throttle gauge A gauge that indicates the state of the accelerator. You can also know the rough speed
Shield energy It decreases when you get hit or hit a wall on the track. When it reaches zero, you retire.
The stages are a total of 6 tracks + α!
HUES BRIDGE This track runs through an iceberg. As the first track, there are no sharp corners and it is easy to follow.
DORON IU This track was built among ancient ruins. Cliffs appear throughout the track, but the difficulty level is still low.
SOHANA A mountain track. The ups and downs are very undulating, so consider speed control.
DYRONESS A futuristic city track. The course layout is relatively easy, although the visibility is poor due to many dark tunnels.
MACHAON 2 A forest track. It is a difficult course with steep undulations and curves and poor visibility.
TERAFUMOS This track is located in the middle of a mountain range. There are many steep and steep sections, and there are also many big cliffs, so be careful not to retire.
4 Different game modes
There are four game modes in Wipeout 64. The objective of each mode is different, such as competing for position or competing for a tie for the French Cup. "MULTIPLAY" can be played by 2 to 4 people, but all other modes are for 1 player.
↑ This is the game mode selection screen. In "Options" at the bottom, you can change various game settings and check the fastest lap.
↑ In "CHALLENGE" mode, you can choose three more games. All of them are game contents that aim to clear the prescribed conditions.
1.Challenge
1-1 RACE This is the main mode in which players compete with rival machines for position. There are 6 stages in all, and if you win in the top 3, you will advance to the next stage.
← This mode, it's not easy to win, let alone finish in the top three.
1-2 TIME TRIAL
This mode is not simply aiming for the fastest lap, but challenging the driver to beat the specified time. There are three levels: gold, silver, and bronze.
← If you clear it, you can proceed to the next stage. The machine used is fixed.
1-3 WEAPON
This mode is to destroy more enemy machines than the target number with weapons and items within a specified number of laps. When you clear this stage, you will go to the next stage.
← Since durability is high, the enemy cannot be destroyed with just one shot of the weapon.
2.SINGLE RACE
In this mode, you can choose your favorite track and compete with 14 rival machines. It's perfect as a practice mode for learning the track layout.
→ Compared to the Challenge Mode, it is relatively easy to finish in the top 3.
3.TIME TRIAL
In this mode, you select one track and pursue the fastest lap time. No rivals or items appear at all, so you can compete with only your own skills.
→ If you update the fastest, a ghost will appear, so let's make it a goal.
4.MULTI PLAYER
In this mode where you can enjoy simultaneous battles with up to players. 2 players can play in 2 split-screen mode, and 3 or more players can play in 4 split-screen mode. The races are exciting as you try to stop your friends!
→ After all, obstructive play with weapons and items is the highlight of a competitive game.
13 Types of weapons (Items)
A weapon that can be obtained by passing over a weapon mark. In addition to offensive items such as mines and tracking missiles, there are also items that assist your machine, such as items that restore your machine's damage and speed-up boosters. There are many weapon marks on the track, so if you use an item as soon as you acquire it and then acquire it again at the next weapon mark, you'll have more chances to use the item, which will give you an advantage in the race.
↑ The "QUAKE DISRUPTOR" is the most powerful attack item that causes an earthquake and damages the entire machine in front of it.
↑ There is also an item that switches to autopilot for a few seconds. It is also possible to force the autopilot to be deactivated, so if you are an advanced user, you may be able to increase your time by piloting yourself.
There are 4 + α machines in the game!
There are four types of machines in this game. One is for beginners with high cornering performance but low maximum speed, and the other is for advanced racers with high maximum speed but low cornering speed. It would be a good idea to choose a machine according to the track layout and skill. Furthermore, in addition to these four types, it seems that super-high-speed machines are hidden.
FEISAR - Easy to turn but low maximum speed AURICOM - Good acceleration but hard to turn AG SYSTEMS - Good acceleration but low durability DIREX - High maximum speed but hard to turn

Here’s a lil’ sneak peek at a nice one; this is my daily, a 2017 Jaguar “X260” XF 20d Prestige. It just underwent a full paint correction and detail in prep for sale on Cars & Bids.
This one is finished in Ultimate Black Metallic over Latte/Espresso with Burl Walnut Gloss and Morse Code Aluminum. It’s equipped with its namesake 20d engine, a 2.0l turbodiesel I4, pushing 181 HP and 318 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels via a ZF 8-speed automatic.
It’s good for a moderate 0-60 sprint of 7.9 seconds, a top speed of 121 MPH, and upwards of 40 MPG. Where its promise really lives is all in the midrange; like most diesel engines, low-end torque is constantly there, but the immense buildup of power that comes on towards the middle of the rev range is what really keeps these pulling and pushing. Couple that natural diesel torque curve with the forced induction of a turbocharger, and this power train comes alive around 1,700 RPMs. Keeping the transmission in S and the drive modes in Dynamic will place the car squarely in that rev band and keep it there as long as possible, always spooling the turbo and maintaining a slightly higher engine speed.
The resulting performance is intoxicating; carving the winding backgrounds of Carlisle, navigating the undulating landscape of Stowe, and overtaking leisurely traffic in Manchester will never once feel slow, or lethargic, or dangerous. You just ease into the accelerator, listen for the telltale whistle, dig in, and feel as an immense surge propels your forward. It’s a charismatic power plant, and one that keeps you on your toes - always keeping you acutely aware of when and where power builds, where it wanes, how it wants to go, and where you can hand off the momentum and torque of the engine to the transmission for a kick-down.
It’s immensely helpful that Jaguar’s complex suspension setup and highly tailored geometry give this car a ride only margins away from a Mercedes-Benz, with the eager spirit of an Audi, and the sharpness of a BMW. With a nearly even weight split, a wider track than many of its primary competitors, and one of the most capable AWD systems outside of Audi Quattro, Subaru Symmetrical, and Alfa/Maserati Q4, and this car definitely poses a unique proposition for the kind of buyer that genuinely wants a nice, daily drivable, efficient, and reliable car, but with all the marks of a sporty and engaging drive, when needed. It’s a car that has usable power at all times, but especially so when you’ve reached the apex of a turn and you rocket out with immediate power on tap, or when you feel the ground rising below you and the car hunkers down and starts pulling like a Mack truck even as it climbs that hill.
In reality, the ingenuity of this car and JLR’s Ingenium engine is that it feels only a step away from a more traditional gasoline engine, but the elements that make it a diesel are not lost either. Its power is similar to any gas counterpart, but there’s far more drama and flair and theatrics with it. In some parts, it harkens back to much earlier turbocharged cars that would drive quite normally until boost kicked in, in outrageous amounts, all at once, and suddenly the entire characteristic of the experience would change. It’s the same reason why I bought not one but two (nearly) identical diesel Jaguars!
After getting t-boned in my XE 20d Prestige, I purchased an E 63 AMG that was flawless in every regard. It was exceptionally well-equipped and was by far the most insane car I’d ever owned, but after barely six months, I sold it and purchased this XF, shipping it all the way from California to Massachusetts in the height of 2022’s wildfires and market inflation, and it’s been a blast ever since.
This one is rather uniquely equipped with options such as the Comfort & Convenience and Technology Packages, plus additional à la carte options, giving it soft-close doors, heated/ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, power liftgate, 10.2” InControl Touch Pro, 12.3” digital cockpit, 17-speaker/825W Meridian Surround Sound, and 19” Axis 14-spoke wheels.
But, with all that said, it is time for another new experience, and with the fun of summer right around the corner, I think it’s time to part ways with this charming Brit for something a little more exotic. So, I leave you now with a few photos that will be featured on Cars & Bids in the coming weeks:
Here’s a quick spot of the engine and some documentation:

From Classic to Electric: The Transformation of Iconic Car Models
Electric Revolution in the Automotive Industry
The automotive industry is undergoing a monumental shift, transitioning from the roar of gasoline engines to the hum of electric motors. This transformation is not just about the emergence of new electric vehicle (EV) brands, but also about the electrification of some of the world's most iconic car models. This transition to electric power is driven by a combination of environmental concerns, advancements in battery technology, and changing consumer preferences. The journey from classic internal combustion engines to electric powertrains has been both challenging and exciting, reshaping the automotive landscape as we know it.
The Resurgence of the Volkswagen Beetle
One of the most beloved car models in history, the Volkswagen Beetle, has made a comeback in an electric avatar. Originally launched in the 1930s, the Beetle became a symbol of simplicity and reliability. In recent years, Volkswagen announced plans to revive the Beetle as an electric car, part of its broader strategy to introduce more electric models. This new electric Beetle aims to combine nostalgia with modern EV technology, appealing to both classic Beetle lovers and new-age environmentalists. While retaining its iconic shape, the electric Beetle is expected to feature advanced technology like fast charging and a substantial range, catering to the needs of today's EV market.
The Electric Transition of the Ford Mustang
The Ford Mustang, an emblem of American muscle cars, has also embraced electrification. The Mustang Mach-E, an all-electric crossover, marks a significant departure from the classic Mustang's V8 engine tradition. Launched in 2020, the Mach-E combines the Mustang's legendary performance with the benefits of electric propulsion. It offers a range of up to 300 miles on a single charge and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. The Mach-E has been well-received, signifying a successful blend of an iconic legacy with futuristic technology.
MINI Cooper's Electric Makeover
The MINI Cooper, known for its distinctive design and agile handling, has also joined the electric wave. The launch of the MINI Electric brings a new dimension to this British icon, maintaining its classic aesthetics while integrating cutting-edge EV technology. With a range of around 145 miles per charge and a 0 to 60 mph time of around 7 seconds, the MINI Electric retains the brand's fun-to-drive character. This transition reflects the brand's commitment to sustainability while preserving the essence that has made the MINI a popular choice for decades.
Porsche's Electrification with the Taycan
Porsche, synonymous with high-performance sports cars, has made a bold entry into the EV market with the Taycan. The Taycan is not just Porsche's first fully electric car but also a powerful statement in the luxury EV segment. With its exceptional performance, delivering up to 750 horsepower in the Turbo S model, and a range of up to 227 miles, the Taycan has set new standards for electric sports cars. It represents how traditional sports car manufacturers are adapting to the electric era without compromising on performance and luxury.
The Transition of Supercars to Electric Power
The shift to electric is not limited to mass-market models; even supercars are getting electric makeovers. Brands like Ferrari and Lamborghini, known for their powerful engines and exhilarating performance, are exploring electric and hybrid models. The move towards electrification in supercars is particularly significant, as it challenges the traditional notion that electric vehicles can't match the performance of gasoline-powered sports cars. This transition is a testament to the advancements in EV technology, where electric motors can deliver instant torque and unmatched acceleration.
Challenges and Future Prospects
Despite the excitement, the transition from classic to electric models poses significant challenges. These include maintaining brand identity, meeting consumer expectations for performance and range, and managing the higher production costs of EVs. However, the future looks promising as battery technology continues to improve, charging infrastructure expands, and public acceptance of EVs grows. The transformation of these iconic car models into electric versions is not just a trend but a glimpse into the future of transportation, where sustainability meets style and performance.

Porsche 911 Makes Its Official Debut in Indonesia
Porsche Indonesia launched to the local market its new generation of one of its iconic sports cars, 911. Promised to be bolder by design, further improved in performance, and rendered with modern feature sets that make it stand out even more in the luxury sports car market, this was introduced to the Indonesian market last November 9 at Jakarta, where General Manager of Porsche Indonesia Alexander Riedel enthusiastically shared his eagerness in bringing the all-new generation of 911 to the Indonesian market.
The newcomer, the Porsche 911 Carrera and 911 S/T, boast refreshingly boosted evidence of its brand's commitment to continuous innovation, if only to keep the 911 from ever catching its breath regarding driving emotion and performance. Bold New Exterior Designs
The latest generation of the Porsche 911 shows striking simplicity in the outer design. All lighting functions fall into a single unit: Porsche integrated a seamless LED matrix front light there. With an LED light matrix being now a standard feature, the four-point LED light graph that, apparently, has become characteristic for the brand takes the front end off the competition line - definitively different.
The new model design also enables improved cooling ventilation at the front part of the car, which should be its distinguishing feature in comparison with older models. For instance, the redesigned headlamps come with an HD matrix LED function providing over 32,000 light spots for full illumination.
The backside still continues restyling by adopting a sportier attitude, raising the dynamic presence of the car. Also, in view of an elegant integration in an impressive diffuser fin, the exhaust system of the car has been improved, which both aesthetically and aerodynamically has enhanced the performance of the vehicle. Luxury and Technology: Interior Redesign
The interior of the new Porsche 911 promises to stretch comfort and even modernity to the next levels. That is because some real updates have indeed been done on the cabin using superior materials and plenty of cutting-edge technology. The central dashboard function of the car comes in the form of an intuitive system called the Porsche Communication Management, or PCM, which operates from a high-resolution 10.9-inch screen. Navigation, music, and communications features are all accessible without a single hitch.
More places and dedicated areas have been provided for an additional storage compartment to complement the interior. This has enabled greater convenience to the passengers. The design of the cabin in this new 911 depicts the ultimate feeling of exclusivity and sophistication, so every drive must be an experience par excellence. Engine and Performance: More Powerful Heart
Inside, however, the new 911 Porsche has a slightly different 3.0-liter flat twin-turbo engine. As is his predecessor, it has delivered more power. It mates to an updated intercooler from the Turbo model, just below the rear cover lattice and atop the engine. Such changes produce greater amounts of power and manage increases in efficiency while cutting down on emissions for greater efficiency.
The new 911 has an impressive power with a maximum torque value of 290 kW (394 PS). This has resulted in the car accelerating in just 4.2 seconds, so the vehicle develops more lightening-fast sports car sensitivity. The top speed of the car is also remarkably 294 km/h so that it can give excellent performance on city roads as well as highways. Pricing and Availability
The latest Porsche 911 has arrived in the country, but here's the good news: the car is sold within a price range of an IDR 5.8 billion off the road. The amount says it all about the luxury, performance, and designing. It has the potential to get buyers a piece of automotive history.

Australia Is A Wealthy Nation Raising Little Tax Revenue
We measure ourselves against our peers. Australia is a wealthy nation raising little tax revenue, which is revealed by OECD economic research. It is important to state we are not talking about income tax exclusively here but all revenue raising taxation. Considering Australia is in the top 10 wealthiest countries globally it is surprising that we trail our peers like Canada and New Zealand in raising tax revenue annually. Taxes pay for our public services like Medicare, education, our military, and law and order to name a few important of these essential services.
High Rates Of Poverty For Over 50s In Australia
Digging down a bit deeper into the figures, we, according to economic data sourced from the OECD and highlighted by Greg Jericho from the Australia Institute, trail Canada by some $140 billion a year. This directly feeds into the fact that Australia has one of the highest rates of over 50 YO poverty among the advanced economies of the world. Obviously, the wealth of the nation is not shared equally among our citizens. In fact, we pay among the lowest rates of welfare as a replacement for wages in the OECD. Whether you are on the pension or receiving JobSeeker you are getting less that 30% of a replacement wage equivalent. Really, unless you have savings you are heading for poverty and folks on the pension would not have substantial savings or they wouldn’t be on the pension in the first place. Australians put up with this and seemingly don’t much care about how the other half lives, as long as it is not them.
Photo by David Peterson on Pexels.com
Mean Spirited Australians & F*ck All Welfare For The Needy
Robodebt was a clear illustration of this, as the LNP Coalition federal government illegally went after half a million Australians doing it tough. This was an ideological attack on so called ‘dole bludgers’ and had plenty of support among working Australians and the media. The fact that PwC, who did reviews into Robodebt, found that there was not a plethora of welfare cheats operating in Australia did not phase Scott Morrison, Tony Abbott, Alan Tudge, and Stuart Robert. In the greatest betrayal ever enacted on the Australian people by government vulnerable people killed themselves in despair and many thousands later sued the federal government in a settled class action costing tax payers $1.8 billion. Incredibly, no one has been prosecuted for this illegal and immoral travesty some 7 years later. White collar crime attracts get out of gaol free cards downunder in stark contrast to blue collar unsubstantiated accusation levelled at the CMFEU for instance. Bureaucrats and politicians look out for each other if you look at the historical evidence. Think about all those Royal Commissions into banking, aged care and disability – nobody ever pays the price for the rorting and deaths ultimately caused. The Economic Carve Up In Oz OK, so who is getting the biggest slices of the pie in OZ? The top 10% are stashing away over 90% of the wealth growth in Australia over the last decade and a half. John Howard, the PM from the 1990’s accelerated this shift via the economic policies his government brought in. Capital gains tax (CGT), negative gearing (NG), and the emphasis on investors over workers since the Howard era. CGT and NG have turbo charged the property market in Australia making it now unaffordable for most younger Aussies to get into the market without the bank of mum and dad. In concert with this, Australia has some of the weakest money laundering laws in the developed world, which sees overseas investors of dubious provenance pouring money into top end residential property in Australian cities. Despots, organised criminals, and the like can stash funds downunder and watch them appreciate. This pushes up property prices and makes homes more unaffordable for Aussie first home buyers and the rest of us. “Wealth inequality: Nearly half of all wealth is held by the top 10% of households, worth an average $5.2 million each. They hold 15 times the wealth of the lowest 60% ($343,000 per household). Over half of the wealth (53%) of older households was owned by one-sixth of older people. They had an average wealth of $5.6 million, comprise 4% of all households but hold 18% of all wealth. “ ( https://www.unsw.edu.au/newsroom/news/2024/04/wealth-gap-widening-new-report-acoss#:~:text=Wealthinequality,onesixthofolderpeople.)
The Gas Industry Pays Little Or No Tax Australia is a low tax paying country for multinational corporations, especially those mining LPG gas and selling our resource around the world. Indeed, half of them don’t even pay royalties on the gas they extract from Australia. WTF? How can this be true? Our politicians, our resource ministers are so inept and/or corrupt, that they agree to deals which see Australia missing out on the kind of tax revenue nations like Qatar and Norway derive from their mining sector. These industries do not employ a whole lot of Australians either, so that is no excuse. We are a soft touch for these foreign owned gas companies and our governments let us down. These facts are hidden and PR campaigns distract ignorant Aussies from the real state of affairs. Australians wrongly believe that mining is the economic backbone of the Oz economy but again this is not true. School teachers collectively pay more tax than BHP. The gas companies manage to not pay company tax in Australia, thanks to their clever accountants. Nor do they pay the Petroleum Resource Rent tax. They make billion dollar profits and don’t pay tax! Why is that? Write to the Prime Minister and ask him why. Write to your local MP and ask her or him. Why are we being ripped off by the gas sector? These companies donate money to both the two main political parties in Australia.
Photo by Magda Ehlers on Pexels.com Our Democratic Politicians Are Weak Australia is a wealthy nation raising little tax revenue. When we say that we cannot afford to pay welfare rates above the poverty line. When our governments say this, we need to ask why they fail to raise the required tax revenue from sectors like the gas industry, the mining industry, the fossil fuel industry. Why are Canada and New Zealand capable of raising much more tax revenue than Australia? The OECD report tells us that we are a low taxing country for the multinational corporations doing business here. Is this because we are stupid or historically have had low self-esteem? Or is it basic corruption because many of our resource ministers end up working for these foreign owned companies on highly paid packages following their departure from public office. This stuff has been going for ages and apathetic Aussies seem to just suck it up. Are our politicians gutless and too afraid to rock the boat? Yes, I think that this plays into the equation as well. The business councils representing these multinational corporations have deep pockets to purchase advertorial and editorial to attack governments afraid of push back at the polls. Democracy is weak in the face of oligarchic self-interest. Our newspapers and networks are controlled by Rupert Murdoch, a right wing media proprietor who sells his soul for greenbacks every day. Corporate media like Nine Fairfax and Seven West run the narratives paid for by their biggest advertisers. The only objective media organisation in Australia is the ABC and this has been cowed by conservative forces over recent years to its detriment. Economic Choices Made By Governments Budgets of governments are lists of what these particular governments value. What they spend money on are as much political decisions as economic decisions. The failure to raise enough revenue has been a result of neoliberalism running its small government narrative. Lowering company tax rates sees less tax revenue being raised. This has been pushed by business groups as an economic panacea promising the trickledown effect. This has never been realised anywhere but they go on promoting this just the same. The extra money goes into the pockets of investors and CEOs. Teams of accountants at multinationals ensure that these giants pay less and less tax. The evidence is there for all to see in government revenue records over the last couple of decades. Australian governments have overwhelmingly listened to these business councils to the detriment of ordinary working Australians. We have one of the worst poverty rates for over 50 YO’s among advanced OECD countries. At the same time, we are one of the wealthiest nations globally but the wealth has not been shared. Instead of lifting up all of us, we have been misled onto a regressive path where a smaller group of winners take the lion’s share and the rest of us get bugger all. This is the American way, where a wealthy superpower contains a select group of multibillionaires whilst tens of millions of citizens live in extreme poverty. At the same time, the wealthy class run a PR campaign blaming the poor for their own poverty, despite locking them out of economic opportunities via exclusion from elite colleges, universal healthcare, and decent basic wages. America offers no leg up for those from the wrong side of the tracks but plenty for the sons and daughters of the wealthy. They then run this BS narrative about merit and self-made men. It is a sham, a scam, a long running con perpetuated upon the country. America is a republic of elites looking out for their own interests at the expense of workers, immigrants, and other marginalised denizens. The Hollywood factory has always promoted the myth of American opportunity for all. Have you noticed how often in American movies groups of ordinary Americans gather around and cheer the hero of the movie. This BS is thick on the ground in the USA.
Corporations employ communications firms to promote the stories they want to tell the world. They spend millions on advertising, PR and marketing. In addition, these huge companies employ lobbyists to sweeten their relationships with legislators. Democratic governments are beleaguered by the sustained requests of these corporations. Of course, large campaign donations are factored into the equation by these companies and business groups. What hope do ordinary voters and citizens have up against this well-funded machinery? Whose voice is going to be effectively heard in the halls of power? Not yours or mine but the much louder corporate voices. Australia is not dependent upon multinational mining corporations for its wealth. This is a furphy, a misnomer, deliberately purported by the communication specialists employed by these industry groups and companies. The figures do not add up for miners, as school teachers collectively pay more tax than BHP. Governments dependent upon the goodwill of its voters are loath to upset organisations with deep pockets and influence. This is why we the people go on taking it up the arse economically whilst wealthy interests feather their nests at our expense. We lack the intention, whereas a senior mining executive or his lobbyist are hell bent on achieving their aims from government. They get to sit down with ministers, we do not. Their job security is dependent upon getting what the company wants from government. We are focused on other stuff in our lives and let this go on screwing us from afar. However, we the people need to wake up to the truth of the matter. “Taxes and royalties paid by the mining industry make up just 5 cents in every dollar of state and federal government revenue in Australia. 95% of Australia’s public services are paid for by other industries. Mining is also heavily subsidised in Australia, receiving the vast bulk of the $11 billion fuel tax credit scheme. “Relative to its size, the mining industry pays nowhere near enough tax in Australia and, perhaps unsurprisingly, they are keen for that to remain the case,” said Rod Campbell, Research Director at The Australia Institute.” (https://australiainstitute.org.au/post/analysis-95-of-government-revenue-not-from-mining-industry/) Whilst we, the Australian people, allow our governments to go on subsidising the mining sector and not taxing it adequately, we will continue to deprive our own vulnerable citizens, the elderly and unemployed, from economic assistance and watch them being driven into poverty. It is wrong that we are a wealthy nation but continue to push older Australians into poverty. Simultaneously, young Australians are being locked out of the property market and being hit by a prolonged cost of living crisis fuelled by corporate profit gouging. More crime and civil insurrection is on the cards for countries that economically support growing inequality.
