Irmscher Tuned Suspension The suspension, tuned by Irmscher of West Germany, is a double wishbone type at the front and a highly durable leaf spring type at the rear. The suspension, thoroughly forged in Europe, gives the car the ability to easily handle both on- and off-road conditions. The tires are made by Michelin and the car is fitted with forged 3-piece aluminum wheels ((IRMSCHER-R)).
Center through drive 4WD with excellent driving balance. The transfer case is an integrated transmission with a center through life system that provides excellent power transmission. In 1987, Subaru was the first to successfully commercialize the automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT), which manufacturers around the world were developing as the ideal transmission.
This is Subaru's ECVT, which incorporates unique cutting-edge technology. Unlike conventional transmissions that change gears by combining gears, this transmission uses a special steel belt and a pair of pulleys to change gears continuously, achieving high performance and efficiency that could not be achieved with conventional automatic or manual transmissions.
The mechanics and driving are all new. Numerous features exclusive to the ECVT.
ECVT is an electronic transmission that precisely controls the clutch engagement and disengagement.
It uses a controlled electromagnetic clutch. It achieves the smooth start and stop that only an ECVT can provide. In addition, because the pair of pulleys is directly connected by a special steel belt, the lockup works across the entire range, providing strong acceleration that always responds to the amount of pressure applied to the accelerator. There is no loss due to slippage of the torque converter like in a general automatic transmission, making it possible to achieve extremely high efficiency and low fuel consumption.
"Comfortable 1st gear shock-free, smooth ride
Because it is a stepless gear change, there is absolutely no shock when changing gears. Moreover, because it constantly selects the gear ratio that best brings out the engine's performance, it always enables efficient driving.

Lockup works across the entire range, providing powerful acceleration in response to how hard you press the accelerator. By selecting the Ds range, you can enjoy even sportier driving by utilizing the high RPM range.

Shinichiro Sakurai. He was the one who named the Skyline and has been the parent of the car for 23 years since its birth. He is currently the chief designer of the Skyline. He led the former R380-R382 to victory.
A man who is indispensable to the Skyline.
"Skyline" - this car with such a beautiful sound has been called this with a unique feeling of emotion as the "Skyline" that has written glory in the history of Japanese motor sports. From the thrilling dead heat with the Porsche 904 at the 2nd Grand Prix in 1964 to the monumental achievement of 50 consecutive victories, the Skyline has always grown up surrounded by glory. And now, when we talk about the Skyline, the man who has developed it into a work of art is Shinichiro Sakurai.
Cars are beyond science unless they have a flavor.
Car designers - our image of them is of a beautiful studio and a manager who commutes back and forth to his desk.
This is not the case with the Skyline. If data is accumulated during the development process of the Skyline, you could say that the "seasoning" process begins when all the data has been accumulated. Whether it is day or night, the designers always ride the Skyline, driving it to add "flavor," repeating the process until they are satisfied, and this process continues even today when there are already many Skylines running around town.
Even when I was working on the R380, from the R380 to the R383, the designer would first ride the car before handing it over to the driver. (The R380 is said to have run a faster time than the speed record.) This has continued for 23 years.
The "skills" accumulated through racing come into play.
Over the long period of 23 years since its birth, the Skyline has been nurtured by one designer's stubborn design philosophy and ideas.
All of the cars up to the 382 have won races against the world's best. Is there any other car with such a history?
What kind of car is a good car?
A car that will be loved even if it becomes a used car.
According to designer Shinichiro Sakurai, "I am sometimes asked that question, and it is a very difficult question. It's like asking what kind of person makes a good person. In my own way, I think it is a car that has been created with one purpose in mind, and is beautifully balanced. In other words, you could say it is a car that has perfect balance. What I always think is that with the Skyline, we have been striving for this total balance for 23 years now, and it fills me with emotion." The Skyline can be said to be a car that has always been well-aligned, a car that seeks and expresses one statement.
The Skyline was conceived and created so that it would be evaluated as a "genuine" car nine years from now, three to four years after the concept was first developed, four years of production, and two years after production ended.
Hearing this story, I could sense the affection the designer had for the Skyline. After my research, I discovered an astonishing "fact." 130,000 Skylines were produced in the factory eight years ago. Of these, over 100,000 are still proudly on the road today. (As of March 55) Eight years ago is well beyond the legal service life of six years, and is an old model that would not normally be subject to appraisal. However, seeing so many Skylines from eight years ago still on the road, I felt like I understood the secret of the Skyline's popularity. I can confidently say that there is no other car with such a track record and such a philosophy.
Skyline monopolizes the top five titles. We received overwhelming support.
It has been honored to win all five major titles: '80 Grand Prix (Motor Fan Magazine), 1st place in the popular vote for domestic passenger cars (High Owner Car), 1st place in the annual best car award (High Owner Car), Reader's Best Car award, and Car of the Best award. I am proud to be able to report this award to the owners.
Used Cars are the Best Sellers for 31 Months This is truly an astonishing fact.

The 2000cc twin-plug Z engine has a maximum output of 120 horsepower and a maximum torque of 17.0kg-m/3600rpm, making it TI's fastest model with torque output that exceeds that of European 6-cylinder sports cars.
