For Mariner to be happy and fulfilled she needs a stable group of friends, a good relationship with her mom, a settled and supportive work/living situation, and plenty of time to process her war trauma. Meanwhile all Ransom needs to be happy and fulfilled is a bunch of stairs and some decon slime, so all that's to say that opposites attract, and they're actually perfect for each other.

So I just watched Barbarian for the first time, and I gotta say it was very darkly funny in parts. Justin Long's character AJ does exactly what our protagonist Tess says at the start. "A man would just barge [into this house] without even thinking about it." AJ just busts in, doesn't even think about it, no caution no nothing. It's only after he sees Tess and Keith's stuff that he starts to get freaked out. Even still, he stays, even gets excited to find the secret dungeon, as he thinks it will make the house easier to sell. He's such an incurious piece of shit and does everything wrong, and Tess fucking called it. His perceived power, his upbringing as a white man, make him think he's invincible. Only to be brought down by the primal Mother.

Mid way through Wind and Truth, and here are my thoughts (spoilers ahead obvi):

Gavinor has my heart, as does Lift. I hope we get more these two going forward, bc I just LOVE seeing Lift interact with kids. 10/10 character

Pattern remains my fave and I’m so upset we don’t see as much of him this time around D: though him saying he likes to stare bc it makes him feel like he has eyes is iconic, per usual. (There was another Pattern moment but I didn’t bookmark it bc I’m a dumbass.)

Kaladin and Szeth bonding is so good!!! I really like what’s happening w Kaladin’s character here — it’s such an interesting shift in the typical storyline with his sort of character, and it’s refreshing. I also l o v e that Szeth is questioning his spren and learning to be a human with agency lmfao

Super uncomfy with the implications that are continuing that Kaladin’s prejudice against lighteyes is the only one that gets directly challenged in the narrative. The series isn’t over, so I’m holding out hope that Sanderson unpacks this a bit more, that this is something that is coming from the lighteyes and that elites will have to deal with their own prejudices and so on, but we shall see……… Sanderson is in fact Mormon and their worldview does limit this imo.

Also I stg, if Syl and Kaladin end up together I will end the world. Absolutely not. So far it’s fine, but good god, Syladin better not become canon!! *sprays squirt bottle* No!!

Wit/Hoid’s character development is really great!! I do miss him being this ~mysterious figure~ but I’m also loving his more human (?) side, especially looking at how (near) immortality affects his ability to connect with people, even his intellectual equals (ish), like Jasnah. (Side note, more Jasnah please!!!!!)

Positive end note! Loving the wind!!! She’s my fave!! And the stone! I love the layered deities of this universe, it’s such good cosmology (and again, strikes me as so. Very. Mormon. God I could write a thesis on how Mormon these books are.)

also. feeling crazy insane about the additional flavour to miguel and gabriel's first in text conversation, where gabriel makes the comment that he thinks miguel stays with alchemax because he thinks he owes them, vs the entire revelation of miguel being taken off to boarding school as a child with the intent of being funnelled off into that company's workforce. and w the specific context of bio dad tyler stone making sure conchata knows he's keeping an active eye on a son he feels he has a claim to.
