What a stupid rule. Or at least, you used to think it was. Until you fell in love, then fell out of it after.

Okay, you didn't actually fall out of it. But you did end up breaking up.

But hey, 5 years isn't that long right? It's not too late to start moving on?

Fuck. You really wished you followed that rule. All you can do now is regret all of your actions 5 years ago, when you were dating him.

RELATIONSHIPS WITHIN PARTIES WERE STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

You only started to understand why it was a rule, a golden standard across all parties.

It is fairly understandable that to have good chemistry with your party, you need to have close bonds with each of your members. You need to establish a strong relationship with your peers, to use all of your different abilities in perfect harmony.

However, indulging yourself in the greed of breaking through the barrier or being— just friends is a high risk. It could either make or break your party's chemistry. With intertwined heartstrings, that push and pull is always guaranteed to break those ties.

You groan at your stupidity, as you struggle to keep yourself afloat as a solo adventurer. Gold became scarce as you could barely afford your necessities, while the dungeon became harder and harder to explore— making treasures difficult to score. Lower levels were always a no-go, as you risk dying and being victim to a resurrection scam— draining you of all of your (miniscule) savings.

You used to be a party leader, determined to lead your beloved team to victory. However, strangers turn into friends— friends into close friends, and suddenly... Lovers. Life back then was simple, laughing at the stupidity of the rule ' no dating within the party! '. I mean, what's so wrong about being happy?

Your power, and his expertise with the blade— back to back, you two were unstoppable.

But could it have lasted forever? You ask yourself over and over— to the point of days becoming weeks, becoming months.

It's all become a blur.

Wake up. Enter the Dungeon. Explore the Dungeon. Go Home. Sleep. Repeat.

It's been 5 years since you broke up with Kabru. Actually— 5 years since you've seen his face. However, it doesn't change a thing. You have had his face memorized in the back of your mind since the day you both met; each angle and curvature of his jaw, the exact hue and saturation of his eyes, each curl in the sea of his dark hair.

You could never forget the way his eyes would soften as he looked at you, his lips curling into a gentle smile. He made you feel warm, like— a bowl of hot soup that your mom made you on a rainy day kind of warm. The way he never fails to be impressed by you, no matter how many times he'd seen your magic.

Sometimes, he'd try to get a little scratch during battle just so he could get healed by you again.

So what if the other members were fatally bleeding and were on the verge of death? He has a 'potentially life-threatening paper cut' and is in need of assistance.

Does it hurt more to remember, than to forget?

... You're not sure.

Remembering only brings fear—the fear of being forever perceived as the person you used to be, and will never be remembered as the person you are now. Change is inevitable, but you never really know if it it changes for the better or the worse.

You've been avoiding ever exploring more than half of the village ever since that day.

He's made his imprint in your mind, where that one bakeshop was not just any normal bakeshop— it was the one he'd eagerly line up at each morning, just so he could bring you your favorite treat.

God, you can't even stand the smell of it in the air anymore.

You couldn't get yourself to go to that one tavern, since it wasn't just any normal tavern anymore— it was his favorite tavern. The one tavern that he introduced you to, where they sold the best quality of your favorite drink.

He had hunted down every saloon and tavern in the village, just to pin one down because he knew you would love it.

And he loved it because you loved it.

It was also the place where you got absolutely wasted. Where you accidentally gave him the sloppiest, most passionate liquor-flavored kiss ever.

Where you couldn't stop the drunken slur of words that poured out of your mouth like a waterfall of alcohol, accidentally telling him you loved him.

It's a never-ending spiral of having to give up your favorite things, mostly because the reason why they were your favorite— was because of him. Because he had taken the time to get to know you, and noted down every single thing about you in every nook and cranny of his mind— your favorite scent, the shampoo you use, the distinct hop in your step.

That man knew you inside and out as if he had just completely dissected you in his mind. His beautiful mind. The mind that knew the second your mood shifted, the one that always takes note of your subtle hints.

And without him, everything seemed tasteless. Like your favorite freshly baked bread in the morning— it suddenly felt like eating clay that you had just dug up from the side of a creek. Like a bland porridge that was bordering a lukewarm temperature.

You sit there, pondering what could've been.

What would life be like if he never left?

Would he still be lying beneath your covers, his face buried in the crook of your neck while whispering promises?

Would he be sitting on your couch, folding your shared laundry— while you cook yourselves a shared dinner?

Would he be begging you to use your magic on him again? Would you be there healing his wounds after a long day, while he begs for another kiss?

Would he be there to kiss your lips again— holding you like a glass rose that could shatter beneath his fingertips?

...

You still love him.

You can't deny it.

However, 5 years is enough for him to hire a new mage.

5 years would've been enough for him to move on to bigger things— bigger ambitions.

bigger dreams than the ones he had with you.

You needed longer than 5 years. Maybe one day you'd be able to meet him eye to eye, without the dread and the fear.

But today was not that day.

But today was the day god decided to test you. (as if he hasn't put you through enough, dragging you from hell and back.)

The Cavern of the Gods pt 1

The sea is teeming with cetacean pokémon. Pods of all sorts of different Finizen play together, Wailords of many breeds dive and breach.

The radio buzzes to life. "Cay? This is Jean-Eric. Are you doing alright down there? All of these Wailords are messing with the sonar."

"Yep everything is fine here. I'm going to head towards the Echoing Terrace, see if it opened up."

Cay begins swimming towards the cliff. Her Finizen, Cove, swims ahead towards a wide cave in the wall. The Echoing Terrace is currently populated by a small pod of jet-black Finizen, happily chirping and playing around. At the back of the cave is a tunnel leading further in.

"That rock wall is gone! Totally opened up to a tunnel!" She swims onward, passing rubble and an ancient, mangled sheet of metal.

Hayako's voice comes over the radio. "The treasure of Pacifica sleeps with the queen behind the bronze door in the abyss."

"And there's our door!" GG calls out, "Oh man! I need to get in the water yesterday!"

"hold your horseas, GG. Let Cay get to the end of the tunnel." Oceana laughs.

Cay reaches a light at the end of the tunnel, opening up into the cavern she had seen from the Long Fissure.

The radio mic is overwhelmed by the excited cheers coming from the boat, followed by splashes being barely picked up.

Jean-Eric's voice starts quiet before returning to his normal volume. "That must be it... The tomb of the last queen of the Okeanides... The others have already dived in to meet up with you, I'll keep tracking you from the surface."

Nezha Reborn annotations - Part 3

Who is Cai Yun? Monkey explains that she is a disciple of the demoness Shiji. 3000 years ago, 7-year-old Nezha accidentally shot and killed Shiji’s gatekeeper and Caiyun’s sister - Biyun - while playing with the Yellow Emperor Xuanyuan’s Qiankun bow from 1000 miles away. Seeking revenge, Shiji overpowered Nezha before being killed by Nezha’s master Taiyi Zhenren. After her death, she was canonized at the Investiture Altar as Yue Youxingjun (月遊星君 "Star of Moon Voyage"). Apparently Caiyun has held onto that grudge since that day.

Chentang Pass was Nezha’s birthplace and the residence of Nezha’s family. Two treasures - the Qiankun bow and Three Sky-shaking Arrows that the Yellow Emperor Xuanyuan used to kill his rival Chiyou (the Yan Emperor) - were kept there.

“But you’re Sun Wukong, the Great Sage who wreaked havoc in heaven”.

It was right here where Wukong obtained his magic staff, Ruyi Jingu Bang. Roughly 2000 years ago, it was sitting in the crystal palace as a piece of scrap metal. Wukong came here to seek the dragon king for a weapon. After none of the celestial weapons satisfied him, the dragon king’s wife suggested that if Wukong could lift the 13500-catty (6.75 tonne) Ruyi Jingu Bang, then it would be his. Not only was Wukong able to pick it up with ease, he could also make it grow and shrink to his command.

When Yunxiang tugged on the Ribbon, the earth shook. It is a reference to an incident in IOTG: After taking a dip in a stream, Nezha was drying himself with the Sky Ribbon. Unbeknownst it him, it caused the ground beneath to shake violently each time it touched the water’s surface.

Ao Guang digging into Yunxiang’s guts is also a reference to how Nezha once broke his own bones, slit his belly and gouged out his intestines to appease the dragon king. 

If she’s a doctor, her first instinct should be chest compressions right???

The ribbon encasing Yunxiang like the lotus symbolizing Nezha's rebirth. The visual metaphor is incredible.

These four large triangular flags are nearly always an integral part of Peking opera, used to adorn the performers’ backs. They have their roots in the small flags Chinese generals would use to signal their subordinates. Journey to the West also has its own peking opera play.

The mink is Mo Lishou’s familiar. The other items in the room are Mo Lihai’s pipa, Mo Lihong’s havoc umbrella. Nezha’s wind and fire wheels sit inside the box.

As Yunxiang rides his motorbike down the street, he is stopped by a white dog. The dog is Xiaotian, and her owner is the formidable three-eyed god, Yang Jian.

You're quite the drunkard though, everytime he sees you on campus whenever he attends, you're drinking wine out of that fancy goblet of yours, and most likely drunk, because a few minutes later he sees some other students carrying you to the nurse's office because you passed out from how much you've drank... are your internal organs okay? he surely doubts they are...

There are also times you give him expensive looking stuff when you're drunk. There was a time you had bought him some anime figurines while drunk, I mean, he's thankful... but you really didn't have to...

Here's my reasonings for these five being my favourite good boys!

Karan, Cherry Magic (Thai) Karan is the ultimate green flag. He's so madly in love with his co-worker but for several years barely interacts with him because he doesn't want to make him uncomfortable. He does lots of little things every day to try and make Atchi's day go a little better, and never expects anything in return. He helps out his coworkers and never expects credit (much like Atchi does, too). And even when he does begin a friendship with Atchi, he still tries to ensure he isn't overstepping. When he admits his feelings, he removes himself from the situations so as to not make Atchi uncomfortable. Then, when he finally enters into a relationship with his love, he is the most doting, protective, and supportive partner ever. He is the goodest boy that ever lived (on my screen) and I miss him terribly.

Shin Ki Tae, Our Dating Sim This boy is the sweetest. His heart was broken for years because his high school friend never gave him the chance to respond to his feelings, and though he couldn't find him, he secretly supported him anonymously by reading his comics and encouraging him to become an illustrator. He did everything to try and make sure Lee Wan succeeded, but didn't expect anything in return. When he finally 'got' Lee Wan, he was so scared of losing him again, but not in a red flag way, and he showed his vulnerable side.

Gavreel, Gameboys Oh, this cheeky little rascal is my son and I love him so much. Okay, he's a wee bit of a pain in the butt when it comes to him pursuing Cai, but he isn't 'creepy' about it. Like, he literally saw Cai streaming games during covid and fell in love at first sight! He was a friend when Cai needed one, he was supportive and attentive. He helped Cai through his father's death, and gave him the strength to come out to his family. He was a good friend to Pearl, Achilles, and Terrence (even though Ter didn't deserve it), and he even took in Wes when he had no where to go (despite Wes literally trying to steal his boyfriend). He literally went broke because he felt guilty forcing poor tenants to pay their rent to him, and he did food runs during Covid for those who couldn't leave the house/hospital. He is just such a good boy and just LOOK at those curls.

Longtae, A Tale of 1000 Stars Everyone's favourite boy! He works hard in university so he can better his home village, he's friendly and accepting, and he has no problem helping out around the village whenever he's needed. He takes Tian under his wing and becomes such a good friend to him. When he learns Tian's secret about Torfun's death he doesn't out him, despite being hurt and mourning. When the whole village and Phupha turn against Tian, Longtae is the only one who actually gives Tian a chance to explain the situation. He gives it his all with the tea bag creations, and he just wants to make the world a better place.

Cher, A Boss and A Babe Cher is a gosh darn treasure and I will forever be confused at anyone who didn't like this series. Cher tries his hardest to live life to the full, and despite his whole village believing rumours and turning their backs on him, he still tried to be happy and would still try to help. He basically started to raise his deceased friend's little brother and did everything he possibly could to help him, even though he wasn't obligated to. He had his heart broken but stayed positive. When he found people being homophobic about his boss, he stood up to them. He pushed himself to work as hard as possible so he could be seen as worthy enough to date Gun (he was always worthy, but he wanted to prove himself to Gun's stupid mum). He supports his friends, treats them like family and would do anything for them.

Cool Summer Event :O

The time where some of the best selling characters get summer costumes. Normally it doesn't make any sense and is contrived but seeing as Beauty & Beast actually takes place on a tropical island I guess it does make sense. Now before we take a look at who the marketing department has determined to be our cash cows why don't we find out what this cool summer event's plot is?

... Uh ... there's ummm ... a hidden buried treasure somewhere on the island's beach and the guild members are in a race to find it.

Haunt in need of solace from the sun

So if I were to design a summer alt for Necro it would play up her dust allergy. Lore wise all the sand in the beach is hindering her ability to breath. Originally I was going to say that she would be wearing a gas mask but that's not exactly period appropriate to the setting. So instead I came up with a different idea. In her summer alt Necromancer wears one of those old plague masks (their main purpose was to filter out bad air).

In what is the equivalent to her first ascension she's just wearing a full plague doctor outfit in an attempt to keep sand from getting anywhere. It isn't actually working though because she's constantly suffering from the heavy heat. In her later ascensions she's swapped over to a red and pink one piece bikini with those little frills on it but the plague mask stays on. To keep the sun off of her sensitive skin she's employing multiple of her reanimated zombies to follow her around with a massive umbrella and buckets of water.

For the grand treasure hunt she's formed a party with Alchemist, Errant Knight, and Phantom. They're not actually searching that hard though, instead their plan is to swoop in and snatch the treasure from whatever group finds it.

Beachside mixologist

Before the rumor of buried treasure spread Alchemist had been asked to help out at Blue Moon Cay's bar. Her alchemist skills actually translate fairly well to mixology. In a reverse of all the others here, Alchemist starts in a swimsuit and gets a less practical beach outfit as she ascends. She wears an old green and black tank suit. It's not particularly showy or fancy but its comfortable and easy to swim in (unlike what anyone else is wearing). Alongside that she carries a little coconut with a straw in it.

Her later ascensions represent after Alchemist has been dragged off by Necromancer to go treasure snatching. Given their plan to snatch the treasure from whoever finds it she trades out her swimsuit for camouflage. Face makeup made from the mud of the jungle floor and a full body jumpsuit designed to resemble the jungle floor and vines. As a replacement weapon she wields an old magitech water gun.

For the treasure hunt Alchemist has partnered with her usual team of Alchemist and Errant Knight as well as Phantom for her stealth abilities. If she can find her new apprentice she'll bring her into the team as well.

Summer Beauty

Goat Queen has traveled from their own world to Elbeth to get in on Beauty & Beast's treasure hunt. Keeping with the theme of starting in unpractical beach outfits Bee starts out wearing a Georgian Era naval uniform (Basically think of how the navy officers dressed in Pirates of the Caribbean). For that reason her equivalent of a first ascension just has her fully suited up in armor but with a flower crown on top of it. Due to the salt water of the beach her armor is starting to stain and creak. It's only in her later ascensions that she gets with the summer program.

Once she has swapped to a swimsuit, Armor Knight wears a blue and green Hawaiian shirt. The pattern on it isn't flowers rather it is sets of swords and shields clashing with one another. She also wears a lei made of pink flowers and some anachronistic sunglasses. In place of her axe she wields a parasol with an icebox tied to it.

In the treasure hunt Armor Knight has formed a party with Crusader, Dragoon, and Crusader (and maybe Carm). They're hunting for the treasure to cover the expenses of repairing damage to the guild's clock tower.
