Danny In All His Sleep Deprived Slightly Scuffed Up From A Fight Glory Is On His Way To Clockworks Tower To Hopefully Get A Nap And Maybe Some Homework Done When A Natural Portal Opens Up In Front Of Him And Proceeds To Unceremoniously Drop Him In The DC Verse Just Outside Of Central City Before Promptly Closing Leaving A Tired Danny Behind In A Run Down Abandoned Parking Lot.

It's Times Like This When Danny Regrets Putting Off Learning How To Make His Own Portals, Cause Now He Is Very Much Stuck For The Foreseeable Future And He Has No Idea Where Or When He Is. Luckily For Him However Central City Isn't Too Far Away, Unlucky For Him However Is That Once In The City He Realizes This Isn't His Dimension. He's Pretty Sure He'd Remember Something Called The Justice League.

So What Do You Do When Supernatural Bullshit Fails You? You Fall Back On Your Mad Scientist Roots And You Make A Portal Gun. So That's Exactly What Danny Plans To Do.

Unfortunately Staying Alive And Building Questionably Safe Portal Technology Requires Money And Supplies, So He Ends Up Wandering From City To City Doing Odd Jobs/Fixing Up Busted Tech For Cash Or Unwanted Electronics For His "Operation: Get Home" Needs. This Obviously Ends In A Few Superhero Encounter Shenanigans.

Though He Always Ends Up Back Near Central City, Both On The Off Chance The Natural Portal Will Open Up Again And Because Out Of All The Superheroes That Apparently Exist In This Universe The Speedsters Are His Favorite (Red Robin Is Solidly His Second Favorite Ever Since The Gotham Vigilante Gave Him A Large Coffee Filled With Enough Caffeine To Kill A Man).

Unbeknownst To Danny However Is That Every Hero/Vigilante He Has Encountered Has Come To At Least One Of The Following Conclusions; 1. Run Away Meta Who Is In Desperate Need Of A Good Meal/Adoption Bait. 2. Possibly Red Robin/Tim Drake Clone 3. A Good Kid But Could Possibly Be A Future Rouge If Left Unsupervised. 4. Did Bats Get A New Kid And Why Is He Here?

All Flash Knows Is That He Saw The Kid First And Therefore Has Dibs. Suck It Bruce.

Fast-forward A Few Months And Danny Gets Hurt During A Rogue Attack While Trying To Help Some Civilians Get To Safety (Old Hero Habits Die Hard (Ha Die Hard) And All That Jazz) And He Nopes Out Once Everyone Is Safe And When The Paramedics Are Busy With Other People Unaware He Left A Blood Sample Behind.

One DNA Test Brought To You By Paranoid Bat Concerns Of A Possible Red Robin Clone Later And They Find Out That Dannys DNA Matches One Ra's Al Ghul.

They Now Think Danny Is An Escaped Ra's Al Ghul Clone.

Fascinated by the difference in how Aral & Cordelia treat Elena, and how Miles does (in Warrior's Apprentice, at least, I haven't reread the later books yet).

Aral & Cordelia are very firmly paying all of their liege-lord obligations to Bothari. He won't let Elena get an advanced education, he's got a very firm idea of the kind of person she should marry (and that marriage is a certainty), and he's lied to her her entire life about where she came from.

Miles rightly points out that Elena is their liegewoman as surely as Bothari is their liegeman, and they cannot owe him everything and her nothing. Don't they have obligations to her? Why does Bothari's narrow plan for her overrule her desires for her own life?

Aral dismissing Elena from the equation makes unfortunate sense from the Barrayar patriarchal structure. Cordelia's dismissal is harder to swallow. She's from Beta Colony and has never accepted Barrayaran sexist cultural norms. She actively rails against them. But when it comes to Elena, suddenly she's hands-off. The trauma bond and sense of debt towards Bothari overrides everything else.

Miles eventually also tries to deny Elena a future of her own choosing by invoking oaths to Bothari...but it's not what he's motivated by (he's motivated by his crush on her, his own personal desire to keep her tied to him), and he reverses that decision.

Aral & Cordelia have kept Elena in ignorance of her origins for 18 years. While there are a lot of secrets wrapped up in the Escobar war, the abuses of prisoners and the origins of the uterine replicators are not a load-bearing one. Outside Barrayar, they're not even a secret at all. Supporting Bothari's lie leads to Elena finding out the truth in the worst way possible (much like keeping the truth of Serg's actions from Gregor also lead to disastrous results). They also spend those 18 years never asking Elena what she wants out of life.

Miles at seventeen years old with no authority but that he borrows from his parents or can bluff, sets out to answer questions Elena has, and when he learns going home will be dangerous, he gives his blessing to the marriage she chose, and tasks her new husband (because Baz has practical experience in this field) with teaching Elena everything she wants to know about her chosen vocation. He dowers her with a fleet.

While Miles definitely knows Elena personally better than his parents do, as she's a peer, he still actually has spent far more of his life with Bothari than with Elena. He's extremely aware that Bothari has saved his life multiple times. But for Miles, a life-debt to Bothari does not override supporting Elena as an independent person, while for Aral & Cordelia it does.

I decided that 17 was FAR too young for TEY, so I kinda just added 3 extra years in between leaving Clonmel and meeting Crowley, making him 20 at the time of TEY. (Well, technically, he was 19 when he met Crowley and turned 20 like 2 weeks later, but that's being unnecessarily detailed lol)

I like to think that, because Halt was a prince, Pritchard could only teach him the skills in isolation, and not how to use them. Y'know, like learning how to pick a lock on some little play toy you out in your lap, and then having to actually do it on a real door. So, these 3 years were when Halt had to transition from aiming at a target to aiming at an actual animal. There were also things like how he knew logically how to set up the tent and then realized that actually doing it was just different enough to make him feel dumb.

This also, btw, puts Halt as a homeless, jobless, (illegal) immigrant who speaks the language at a 3rd grade level during the height of Morgarath's rule. So. He had 🌈fun!! ✨️

By the time he met Crowley he understood the language a lot better (3 years of actually living in the kingdom will certainly help with that) but he still kinda struggled a bit. I like to think that he can't pronounce Morgarath's name and always ends up calling him "Morgor", "Morgaah", or simply, "lighting man". Why? Because it's entertaining, that's why

The fic I'm writing takes place when he had JUST moved to Araluen, and wasn't quite so stone faced yet. In the fic he finds a group of other homeless people, mostly other immigrants, who let him stay by their fire that night and help him fix a couple things from his saddle bag. It also centers heavily around his relationship with his old horse, Declan, from before he got Abelard, and how that horse was his only reliable source of companionship
