Most recent brainrot is putting Kiwi and Oz into a modern AU. Monkey See, Monkey Do

Started out with Destined One frequenting the same bar to practice billard, while Oz is the resident pianist there and it just snowballed from there and now I have some backstories for those two idiots

5th year medicine student. 25 years old, he started with his study when he was 20, took two years to travel around

Uncle Shen Monkey owns cocktail lounge / fancy bar called Flying Monkeys . Shen Monkey is also the barista also, and there are few pool tables available.

Kiwi spent a lot of his teen years playing billard, hence he is VERY good at it. Still goes to play and practice

Kiwi participates in local tournaments

also helps out at the lounge from time to time

Seems to be very popular among his peers despite being an introvert and loner??

his fellow students like him because when they ask him for help he gives it to them

the type that seems like a cold douche but will not hesitate to step in when he sees a woman being uncomfortable or being harrassed

kinda popular among the ladies, plus the fact that he looks really good when playing billard adds to it

parents divorced when she was super young. Dad moved away and remarried and has a new family. She has two half-siblings

occassionaly talks with the half siblings, but has not much contact with her father. Mom had full custody and essentially raised her as a single mom

typical tiger mom. Loves her mom but has a strained relationship with her at the moment. low contact

Did not have many friends as a kid, mom had a tight grip on her and her time and education. Started making real friends once she moved out for university. Met Yù @marcu-bug, Birdie @dunanana, Liyu @s0rr3l and Beike @maiden-of-the-waters and they are pretty much her only friends LOL

Started having piano lessons as early on. Had good promises to be a concert pianist, but ofc that is not a viable career path as per her mom

Studied medicine only because her mom wanted her to. She was VERY MISERABLE during her time as a student. Dropped out during the practical years because the pressure was just too much for her and she realized being a doctor was just not what she wanted to do. She wasn't happy with it, hence also why her relationship with her mom is strained, cause Oz was THIS close to finishing and then decided to ""give up""

Also her then-boyfriend cheated on her she caught him in bed with another person

And her great-grandfather passed away

overall not a good year on her mental health. Realized all she did was just doing what other people wanter her to do. Dropped out to take a break and just figure out her place in this world

works as a pianist at Flying Monkeys after dropping out. Shen Monkey pays really well and she also gets very good tips because. Helps out at the bar on days when they are short staffed to make some more extra cash

Gets hit on few times at work, but luckily a certain monkey is always there to look out for her....

Kiwi bumped into Oz during his first year in univeristy. Probably when both needed to submit some paperwork for the univerity, Oz for dropping out. She noticed him carrying the newest comic issue of The Monkey King, and asked him about it

Learned really soon that he is a selective mute, but didn't treat him any differently and just carried on the conversation with him as usual, which he really appreciated

I wouldn't say it was love at first sight for him, more like the feeling you have when you're sitting in the plane and it is landing soon and you see the lights of your city below you and you know you are this close to home? Yeah it's that feeling.

anyway months passed and he hasn't seen her since then but she is always like there in the back of his mind

Uncle Shen Monkey telling him one day that he hired a new pianist which is nice cause they haven't had one in a while and that he wants Kiwi to be there to show her around the lounge a bit and stuff

Kiwi, not very happy about that because he doesn't really enjoy meeting new people, is then surprised to see that Oz is the new pianist his uncle hired.

Oz.... vaguely remembers him LOL. Probably takes her like a few weeks to go "hey.... have we met before???"

Suddenly Kiwi has a lot more time to be around his uncle's lounge again. Uncle Shen Monkey know what is up there. probably tries to play wingman

Enter the "and they were roommates" arc

Oz moved back to her mom but things are NOT good. lot's of fights

Kiwi overhearing one day how she asks Shen Monkey if he knows about any free rooms for rent to let her know

and whatdya know Uncle Shen Monkey does happen to know someone who has a free room

Kiwi. it's kiwi who has a free room that is sort of used as a storage at the moment. he doesn't mind Oz moving in there. Gives her a really good rent deal, where she is basically paying all the bills and that's it

Kiwi owns the apartment. His parents left a good amount of assets behind which he sold and then bought his own place

Oz is very grateful for the deal, because it helps her to save money and put aside to eventually move out and find her own place

Oz has the room closes to the bathroom because Kiwi is nice like that. He'd move in an old piano in too for her to practice and play

at first Oz was very shy about playing because she doesn't want to disturb him when he is studying but he likes listening to her practice and play when he is studying

I think that before Oz moved in, Kiwi barely decorated the apartment much. The embodiment of only had the bare neccessaties in it. But once Oz moves in, it started to feel more like a home than just a housing for him to come back and pass out. I think the only real personal belonging he has is a good decent The Monkey King comic collectiona and collectibles

Definitely have a vinyl record player, something that Oz always wanted to have. She movied in with like five records in her collection, and Kiwi then gifted her a player, and the collection just grew from there

both are very much introverts, so they prefer to spend most of the time just chilling at home, on the couch together playing games or reading books

Oz does sometimes have her friends other to hangout

because both work crazy hours sometimes, Kiwi would go Flying Monkeys after his shift to pick Oz up and then they go home together

Kiwi doesn't know how to drive, never learned too traumatized from the accident. So Oz is the one who rents a car and drives when they decied to take trips together

Have a rule to put a sock on the door handle and text the other person to let them know when they have special guests at the palce

Oz does go on few dates but never brings anyone home because it just doesn't feel right

and Kiwi well, his heart belongs to only one person hehe

have weekly movie nights. Kiwi takes it personal if Oz binges a whole season without him

Christmas season again! Time to dust off this old post and add some new ideas

-do they live in an apartment? Good kitchen ware is hard to beat

-dorm? Good microwavable items, like a microwave safe mug, or tupperware

-fuzzy socks and nice blankets

-hot chocolate or coffee to go with the mug

-ive seen a resurgence in physical media lately. Do they have a favorite band (CD) or movie? (DVD)

-pay attention when you're out with them. Do they talk about wanting something in passing, or keep going back to something at the store? Buy that. That's my secret for gift giving every year

-photo album. I swear everyone I know loves printed pictures

-sentimental ornament, same thing. I bought me and 2 friends Christmas village ornaments, we each got a building that matched up to our interests (the bookworm got the library, I got the bakery, etc) (i did find these at the thrift store, i got lucky lol) but I've also given photo ornaments, inside joke ornaments, etc

College student Christmas gift ideas

-reusable items like but not limited too: reusable ziplocs, rechargeable batteries, dryer balls, good Tupperware, makeup remover cloths, good water bottles

-gift cards for Walmart, fast food places, Barnes and noble for textbooks, etc

-expensive or unique school supplies like erasable highlighters, good quality pens in black and/or colors, etc

-solar panel phone charger IF they live somewhere with a window. This is always a hit with people I talk to on campus and I own one as well

-10 foot long phone charging cord, also always a hit

-plants, everyone I know loves plants to brighten up their dorms, also can be grown under LED lights. Bonus points if multi purpose plants like aloe vera, herbs, or specialty spices (I've heard ginger is surprisingly easy to grow)

my tips for uni! <3

psa: whilst I am both loving & succeeding at my university, I am by no means a perfect student or top of my classes; take everything I say with a pinch of salt & realism <3

attendance is everything; this is incredibly hypocritical of me, as my current attendance is really low (mental health & sads mostly), but if there's one thing i've learned it's that nothing can quite match the feeling of a lecture hall. even if you're not taking notes or plan on catching up later, go to the lectures. at least you'll get out of the house for a bit!

stay on top of work; fairly obvious, but so important. with the increased workload, keeping up with lectures & assignments can be really overwhelming. schedule yourself, give yourself breaks & try to complete everything before the deadline to minimise stress. but remember, late work is better than no work.

take care of yourself. seriously. not just skincare & smoothies, actually look into who you are & what keeps you going. take the time to understand what you enjoy, what calms you down & what keeps you focused. sometimes self care isn't easy, but nothing worthwhile ever is.

try not to obsess over what comes next. univeristy is a short time, mostly 3-4 years for the average student, but that time is so intense that it'll feel like forever. your school wants you to succeed after you graduate, it looks bad when you don't, so talk to your academic advisors & professors, but don't panic.

push yourself to make friends. it isn't easy, it can be really hard to get yourself out there, but attend some clubs you find interesting & fake that extrovertism until you make it. trust me, the loneliness & isolation has driven away plenty of incredibly competent & strong students. be kind to those you meet, you might be the only one trying.

keep a diary & an academic planner. the planner to stay up to date, to structure your life, but the diary for rambling, venting, poetry, etc. get it out of your head, it might help you sleep. be vulgar, be messy. it's yours & yours alone.

sleep is vital, protect it. it'll be the first thing to go, so be strict with yourself whenever possible.

you're better than you think. struggling is normal & the worst thing you can do is pretend you're not. ♡♡

Mini Update August 24, 2023 🎀

It's been 9 days of me being sick and while I'm still not 100% better, I am feeling so much better than I did this weekend. I finally can talk without pain again, I can drink coffee again, and I can eat food that's not chicken soup again. I still have a bit of a cough, but I really do feel so much better. I'm thankful for my univeristy health center for providing me healthcare and medication because it has helped immensely.

I want to say that I should be back to my regular updates either Sunday or Monday, as I think I will be fully better by then. I miss working out, I miss my morning routine. The sleep has been wonderful in my recovery from this mystery illness (not the vid and not strep, thankfully), but I am a morning person and I love my routines.

I have kept up with my skincare, but honestly, I've been so focused on both keeping up with my schoolwork and trying to rest and heal that I haven't had time for much else.

Some updates on my life:

got rejected from a job I applied for on campus but am still waiting to hear back on the other campus job. I just know I'm gonna get it, it's a matter of when, not if <3

My current job has reduced my hours to 3 days of work a week because of me falling ill, which I understand, although I don't know how that's gonna affect me financially just yet.

I love my classes so far, my professors are pretty cool for the most part and the work is doable as long as I do it in a timely manner.

I love digital note-taking, I don't know why I didn't try it sooner, but I think I am gonna stick with it as I adore aesthetic notes, and my Ipad is so convenient for it as I always have it on me.

Water for the win! I was not used to staying properly hydrated, but since getting sick, I drink over 1 liter of water a day, and it's made all the difference.

I tried a new Korean foaming face wash, and it dried my skin so bad that my face burned and feels super textured now. But I do like the oil cleansing balm I tried. You win some, you lose some.

Thats all for now! Will be back to my normal updates soon, and I'm thinking about posting either my current skincare routine and tips or some school and studying tips? Which would you guys prefer?

Hobie X Black African!Reader

(Please excuse any errors when it comes to British and African Vernacular the reader will be Congolese in the story)

Summary: You are a new exchange student in Nixon Univeristy(idek) And you meet a Student called hobie brown, who changes your life in more ways then one

A/N: like I said before I'm not get with british slang/culture or Congolese slang/culture so please excuse any errors

Y/N POV:

It's my first day at Nixon university. I was scared because everything is so different from back home. People were meaner.

I walked in, and everything was so... bright. I went up to a place called the prin...ci..ple office?(for this story Y/N isn't great with English). "Ehh.. excuse me is this the princi..ple office..?" I asked with my accent pushing on the words coming out of my mouth.

"Ah yes! You must be Y/N, I'll call your tour guide down for you!" I thought to myself *what is tour gui..de*?. Next thing I know a tall skinny man who had alot of spikes and wild hair came through the office.

"This the new stu'ent her'e yea?(I'm not great with british vernacluar😭)" "Yes this is Y/N and Y/N this is hobie". *why is his name so weird why his parents name him a hoe?* I thought. Just then the office lady spoke again. "You guys have all classes together except 1 so Y/N will be with you for the whole day" "Oigh' let's go yea!?" This "hobie" said and I start to follow him out the office.

HOBIE POV:

This new student was very pretty her lovely Melanated skin compliments everything about her.

Me and Y/N are walking through the halls silently so i break the silence by introducing myself. "Oi there,names Hobie..Hobie brown and I play the guitar what 'bout u huh?" I said looking at her.

"I am Y/N kasongo.. I..ehh Dr.. awll" She stammered through the whole sentence. I could tell she's

"Oi yea where u from?" My voice lurks with curiosity. "I from Congo"

Y/N POV:

The day was here. The day of the dance I'm going with hobie, of course. Lots of things happened In these few months.

My English got better and I started dating hobie. Me and hobie were laying with eachother in bed a couple hours before the dance starts.

"Hobie you know what's crazy?" "Whot?" He said with the fine ass british accent. "It's the fact that a couple months ago we met in an office and talking about how I wasn't from here and you were showing me around to classes and now were here cuddling with eachother".

Year in review 2022

2022 has been an incredibly productive year for me. So much happened, progressed and changed in just one little year, I almost don't recognize myself.

At the beginning of 2022 I was an insecure and unsure student, worried about finishing her bachelor in just one more year, worried about the possibilities, about leaving the safety of my beloved faculty and having to look for a job out there in the real world, where everything worked differently.

I was worried about starting offline classes again after Covid, after 2 years in blissful setting at home that I really liked. Dicussions, homework and classes all nicely done from home, no annoying travelling and lots of time with my family, those were the 2 best years of my life. Until now.

In 2022 summer semester I got my first job at uni as tutor that I really enjoyed.

I started my course for writing mentoring at the uni as part of an extracuricular activity, met the best teacher there, learned a bunch of new stuff about writing and started my research project in writing sciences.

I made 3 new close offline friends and my first ones at the university. 3 awesome girls that study things I considered studying myself, who are super sweet and philosophical, smart and thoughtful and hardworking. It took a year, but I'm finding out we are agreeing more and more on stuff that matters and that's gratifying.

I got my new job as writing assistant at the university in September 2022 and it was a giant jump from that. Proper 10 hours a week, a work collective for the first time, advising students, holding classes and advice sessions of my own in academic setting, organizing my time around classes...incredible work skill progress.

I can see my future in academic setting now. I can see myself finishing BA, MA and then going for PhD, in topics I love, holding classes, publishing articles and being happy.

Now I'm excited about finishing my BA this February and starting my master's degree, about continuing as an univeristy assistant until I can start working as PhD. About being more active, joining conferences, travelling, doing a semester in foreign country altogether. I'm so excited about the future and so happy everyday.

I finished my BA thesis this Christmas, 2 months before the official deadline so I can sign up for Master classes on time. It's been such a beautiful experience. I read incredible books for it, my knowledge grew to the sky, my view of studying popular culture and literature totally updated and progresses, changing my world of the world and life.

I was worried how difficult my BA thesis would be to write and what quality I managed as a assistant myself, but the progress was enjoyable and I'm proud of the result. The first feedbacks have been very positive.

I have grown more bold, outspoken, more oriented in what I want and care about and want to accomplish.

I finished my first novella, Tears of Iron, in 2022. It needs some editing and a wrap up chapter, but I still never wrote so much consistently in one project, never shown it to an editor before, never had betareaders looking at it. Big shoutout and thank you to @avrablake who keeps giving me comments, thoughts and tips that are incredibly helpful, joyful and encouraging. I'm very grateful.

I also want to thank @myhusbandsasemni for being an amazing friend who really helped me out and supported me in hard times.

Overall I want to thank you guys who stuck around, who witnessed what happened and stayed on my side, didn't blame me, or turned your backs on me against bullying and attacking of such a degree. Lots of my close friends jumped the vagon and joined in the hate-blame wave to look cool, hence my break from tumblr that taught me as much as my presence did. But my win lies in not shutting down, in not staying silent, and moving on from the wrong people.

You are going to see what you are looking for, and if what you look for is negativity, unfairness and power structures, no matter what is there and gonna blame people for seeing something different, well, then we can't be friends and I'm sorry there isn't a way to tell this apart before a crisis happens. Perspective depends on the reader (Cawalti/Berger/Storey)

Anyway. Up into a new year, learning and shaking off the bad, focusing on the good and making progress in goals, knowledge and dreams.

bestie, I'm in my final year of university, so if you need any advice, I'm always a dm away. Anyways, here's what I learnt in my 4 years in university (this can go for everyone too:

- Do not feel bad if you fail one assignment, or if you think that it'll kill your GPA - it literally just depends on the scaled weighings for that assessment piece. There are also ways you can resubmit or reassess. You're in univeristy to learn, and that comes with failure, not sucess.

- Talking of GPA, I'm not sure how it works in other countries, but here, in Australia - your GPA doesn't go on your graduate certificate - so even if you just scraped by - p's get degrees. (Passes). Don't live by this though, aim high! The only way people are going to find out your GPA here is if you tell them.

- You don't always need to do every reading or watch every lecture - rest assured. I think like out of my four years (this is my last year), I did only half of this, but I still know what to do, when to do it, etc. Majority of your learnings come from class time, and assessment pieces, etc. Readings aren't compulsory (unless otherwise advised.) Majority of them are there to support you not to teach you, that's what your tutors, lecturers, professors, etc., are there for.

- Group assignments will SUCK. I mean it here. They're so bullshit with the grades and this (I'm a big advocate for individual markings in group pieces). The amount of times I'd have to haul ass on the assignment cause some sick shit head decided to go partying instead of study as bullshit. I'd personally do this thing where I would snitch on you if you don't pull your load of the coursework in a group assignment. I'm not a dog, guys, promise, I am nice. Just - respect goes both ways, and it would be obvious that some group members are there for a joyride, to ride off your academics - it's not cool!

- You're not really there to make friends. But if you find some great people, with great personalities along the way - go for it! I met one of my best friends in my first year of university and we've been friends since!

- Your mental/physical health matters most. Fuck your assignments and your classes if you're having a bad day. I guarantee you won't fail for missing a week - sure you'll be behind and that can be stressful - but YOU matter most. Not your assignments. At the end of the day, you can always fill in for an assignment extension - look after yourself FIRST! Good teachers will understand this and emphatise well. Mental health matters!

- Don't leave your assignments to the last minute - or do it's up to you. Last year I partially lived by the good old saying, "if it's not the DUE date, it's not the DO date." This really stressed me the fuck out, but thats procrastination for you (and partically cause I have ADHD lmfao)

- Enjoy your time. Easier said than done. It's really not easy - university/college. What they don't say at open days is the level of mental breakdowns you will have on ONE assignment, because the marking feedback is BRIEF or the teachers didn't explain it properly. Best thing you can do, look to the course outlines in your selected courses - they are LIFESAVERSSSS. I cannot emphasise this enough. They explain better than some of the professors I have had, trust me, they're godsends.

organization: i know it's the most trivial advice in the world, but i swear it works. before doing anything, i take my planner and review everything i have to do, i divide the study by subject, amount of things to study and review spaces for exams. realistically, you can't expect to do it all in one day, but a good plan could almost allow you to sleep at night!

a clean workspace: i can't fucking concentrate if there's a mess aroud me, i get distracted easily, even by dust, so before i start studying i always deep-clean my desk. i know that not everyone can afford a personal and quiet place to study in their houses, so try to find yourself a small angle where you can really focus.

go to study in a library / café: i didn't believe it at first, but it's actually useful. if you have the opportunity to go to a library or a café after school ( or near your house ) do so. being surrounded by people who are studying like you really helps to focus, you'll be less inclined to get distracted and procastinate. i would feel uncomfortable using my phone in a library with other people who are doing their work while i'm sitting there scrolling on tumblr.

breaks: ik ik, not very blair waldrof, hermione granger, spencer hastings, rory gilmore of me, isn't it? but is it worth it. sometimes i end up having really bad headaches from studying and, even if i keep studying, the quality of my work decreases significantly. breaks are fundamental. i would not recommend using social networks for your beak, because they litteraly drain your attention, rather do your skincare, prepare yourself a snack ( eating is important! it's what makes you focus ), read 10 pages of your book, dance a little bit in your room, do stretching, go outside and buy some mint chewingum, something like that.

EAT!: girls, boys and theys, we know. i honestly think that almost every person that craves academic validation ends up developing a sort of eating disorder. it's not even the food, is the fact that you are too busy studying that you forget to eat, ignoring stomach cramps, or the fact that you didn't get that answer right and now you don't feel like you deserve the lunch. i understand bc i AM like this, like you. but think about it: you need to do it in order to survive ( but this is secondary to the grades, right? ) and to keep your brain active. you can't walk around with blurred vision because you haven't eaten or drunk for fourteen continuous hours. i swear that eating like a normal human being helps you to keep going.

sleep: same thing as eating, but with our terrible sleeping schedules. i know that school is toxic so we end up finishing our homeworks at 2 am everyday ( if we're lucky ) but when you have the chance, take a nap and recover.

repeat things as if you were explaining them to someone: this is litterally the fastest way ever to learn fundamental concepts when you're studying. imagine that you're talking to a friend that doesn't know anything about the subject that you're studying and try to explain the topic to them. finding simple words for a difficult topic will help you understand it thoroughly, on this basis you can then build an articulated and more academic speech. repeat things out loud, doesn't matter if you look crazy, you already are <3

check and organize your notes the same day: i never have time to take proper notes in class, so i review them as soon as possible, with the lesson still fresh in mind. it really helps me understand the subject and makes the further study much easier.

watch youtube videos: youtube is my favourite class. sometimes teachers are dumber than students and you, who don't have a degree in that subject and are tackling a topic for the first time, don't understand a damn thing. ofc not!! sometimes professors are terrible at explaining stuff, but fazal from pakistan isn't. i passed my physics class with a 10/10 thanks to an indian guy on youtube. documentaries and yt videos are a simple and nice way to understand better topics and do insights for extra credits.

delete social media: i'm gonna do another post specifically for this.

"STUDY!" wallpaper: last but not least, the dumbest yet the smartest advice, set as lockscreen a white / black / whatever background with a big fat "STUDY!" written on it. everytime you're about to pick up your phone and procastinate the wallpaper will scold you.
