Hi, I just read your story on AO3 and I loved it a lot but it also left me with a lot of questions about Oz and his relationship with Sun Wukong, especially the part where you mentioned that Oz after recovering the relics couldn't return to his world but at the end it gives the impression that she is no longer with him and at the beginning you also mentioned that this isn't a fanfic as such but like a diary or letters that she left him and that's eating my head in a good way that I need answers 😆😆😆😆 By the way, I know this is a bit long but I really love your content, your art, and your writing 😆☺️😊🥰
would you believe me if I said I came up with the idea to add those paragraphs at the end of each stories to make it sound like they are not together anymore literally as I was uploading my fic to AO3 LMFAO
ok ok, since I'm not an eloquent writer and will enver write a fully fledged fic, I will just spoil the ending of my non-existing story.
Basically after Black Myth Wukong story line, Oz did not manage to go home like she thought she would after helping DO. I've also mentioned that her ancestor were part of the Celestial Court but got fucked over by the court, so "book 2" of my AU would be SWK and Oz dealing with the Celestial Court, trying to figure out what what the fuck happened.
Everyone is like trying to use Oz as a scapegoat for the shit her ancestors did. She's just like, I wanna live my life and idc what my ancestors did that was like over 1000 years go for me. but 1000 year in celestial court is like 83 years ago in celestial heaven time, so like not thaaaat long ago for them. WW2 is for us like 80 years ago. it's a long time ago but also not really. people who lived through the war are still alive. So anyway, court wants her to serve them again like her ancestor did, or die I guess. reason is tied to some power that flows in Oz because of her ancestor, which I do plan to explain in another post at some point.
something something happens, where either Oz has no choice but to return to her homeworld, oooor someone from the Celestial Court forcibly sends her back. If you watched Barbie the nutcracker, the same shit the rat king pulled on Clara. Or maybe even SWK pushed her through a portal to send her to safety.
also in my AU, time flows differently between the Oz's world and SWK world. A day can pass in her world, and it could be few weeks or months or even years in SWK world.
ALSO important thing is SWK at some point gives Oz a ring made from the birthstone, like he found rock pieces and asked Yin Tiger to make him a ring ("I'm not that kind of smith, monkey"). Traditional Chinese Wedding does not include an engagement ring, but SWK was there when Oz was explaining to monkey kids how wedding traditione worked in her world, and he loves her so he made the ring, gave it to her when confessing to her.
She still has the ring when she went back to her world, and there it's like not much time has passed, maybe a week at most. She still made it to her Taylor Swift concert.
Time pass, maybe like three years or so. She never stopped thinking about SWK, and tried to find way to get back but couldn't. maybe the portal got severed idk. and then something something happens (which I will need to think about), where one day the ring on her finger felt warm and she was able to return to Mount Huaguo, landing where the birthstone stood on the mountain.
I think like 100 years passed in that world, where SWK never stopped visiting the birthstone place, where Oz also went back to her world.
Here is a comic I made of their sweet sweet reunion:
She's wearing a fancy red dress because she was attending some fancy event before she was able to return to SWK. But also traditionally the bride and groom wore red in a Chinese wedding, so her wearing the red dress when she is reunited with SWK after all those years is a symbol for that they are finally able to be together and live their happily ever after. it's also symbolism for Oz.
Before that, depsite SWK confession and basically proposal, she has a bit of commitment / abandoment issues from her parents divorce, so yknow they didn't get married before that. but it is very clear to anyone that they both loved each other.
so yeah. Sorry for the long post LOL i get super excited talking about my problem children. there is angst and implication that Oz will be gone but ultimately it ends on a happy note.

kicks down everyone's door folks I might have figured out how tall Sun Wukong/Destined One is in Black Myth Wukong.
Starting with a disclaimer that this is just my speculation and nothing is confirmed unless the dev state otherwise
So y'know how the collector's edition came with this amazing Wukong figurine:
amazing right? I want one too.
The description states that the figure is 40cm tall (according to playasia)
The figure is made by Queen Studio, specifically the INART team that makes 1:6 figures.
So we know that the figure is 40cm tall. It is not clear if that includes stand or not, and I was not able to find any information how tall the stand is
On another website (which I don't want to name because I don't know how serious the website is) lists up the figure as 315mm/31.5cm
If that is the height of the actual figure without stand, and it's a 1:6 figure, that means 31.5cm * 6 = 189 cm
So that means it is very possible Destined One/Sun Wukong is 189 cm / 6 feet 2 inch tall.
that is TALL. a lot taller than I thought he would be tbh LOL cause in the books he is usually described as the shortest (cause well, monkey)
which ALSO means.
Wukong better be paying for her chiropractor with the amount of crancking her neck up she has to do.

guys I'm LOSING MY FUCKING MIND HERE
Found a 40 minute long behind the scene video about Black Myth Wukong from the devs, where they talk about the game, and they also talk about the early 2020 teaser gameplay they dropped, and how the opening differed so much from the final product.
The most interesting part (to me) is the Old Monkey talking at the beginning:
here they are saying how the Old Monkey is holding a bead/pearl bracelet in his hand
"And then suddenly, the bracelet beads break. [...] and then one of the bead fall to the ground and roll forward
"one pearl is one world" (literally translation lmfao this is why I could never work as a translator)
"and then you see the Sun Wukong of this world" and then it zooms into the monkey and this is how the game starts.
Interesting things to me is that
1) they call the monkey character Sun Wukong, so my guess is in the early planning stage, Sun Wukong was supposed to be playable?
2) the each pearl represents a different world??? with maybe different Sun Wukong?? So maybe something like the spider-verse except it's Wukong-verse oh god can you imagine all those monkeys getting together.
We know now that the game is out, they devs have changed some details from the original novel, and added their own twist to it, e.g. how the Tiger Vanguard had two tiger cubs, how Bajie had a spider lover and spared her life, and not to mention how they changes soooo many things about the Bull King, Princess Iron Fan and Red Boy.
It makes sense to play at the multiverse angle then, that way it would explain how each journey turned out differently and had different outcomes for some things. In another universe, the journey happened exactly like in the novel.
I don't think the devs were planning to expand on the multiverse in the game or in the franchise, but rather simply use that as an opening to introduce us into another JTTW inspired game were some things were or had different outcome.
GOD this has me so hyped up because in my Black Myth Wukong AU featuring my OC, I am playing with the different world and universe angle, I feel so validated to go down that route now
Here are some storyboard screencaps:
Here he is fighting the "new" Lingxuzi (not the same guy as from the original JTTW novel) and Monkey is hit with a lot of flashbacks (according to the CN text)
And then we return back to the scene where the Old Monkey is
SHIT WAS THE OLD MONKEY SUPPOSED TO BE SUN WUKONG BECAUSE THE HEADBAND
His final in-game journal entry also says that "Some say he is Sun Wukong himself."
4th spider sister my beloved wife
another spider concept art
my blacksmith husband Yin Tiger
we are all monkey
If anyone wants to watch the video, the link is here. It' 40 minutes long and in Chinese, no EN subtitles

it's not like they live on a mountain with other monkey citizens running around
Or also known as Oz trying to flirt (??) but it backfires on her.
set after BMW when Oz is living on Mount Huaguo, hence the hanfu and the neater hairdo
I think I'm also slowly getting the hang of drawing Sun Wukong without having to look at 81 reference images

Man seeing the CEO's reaction to Black Myth not winning GOTY, saying they came to the awards for nothing (they won Player's Choice), that he wrote the acceptance speech 2 years ago, and all that shit about feminists and wanting to assault the female members of the team, make me glad they lost. Despite me playing the game way more than the rest.
Wait what post had the thing about feminists and assaulting female members? If you mean the Weibo post CEO Yocar wrote on 14 Dec 2024, I don't find any mention of the sort there. If you've any citations/links to the Chinese non-translated posts or screenshots that would be good.
If you want to read an actual good translation/paraphrasing of Yocar's post, I recommend this article.
1) "saying they came to the awards for nothing" you mean "今年入围的游戏都很出色,可我真没搞明白这次年度游戏的评选标准是啥,我特么白来了!" which basically states that "the shortlisted works are all outstanding, but I really don't understand what's the selection standards". The last part is like similar to "goddamn waste of my time" but not exactly, like waste of his attendance?? Like "The competition was strong but I didn't understand the rules, so why the heck did I attend for no reason! (exasperated tone towards ownself)".
Additionally, is writing an acceptance speech 2 years ago something negative...? Are creators not allowed to be proud of their work? This is the portion of Yocar's post that the "acceptance speech 2 years ago" came from:
"From yesterday till today, I've seen a lot of severly dissatisfied reactions from my conversations with (Black Myth Wukong) players, discontent and irritated—most of who expressed themselves in humourous and yet structured ways, which I found hilarious.
I understand entirely the feelings of those who are dissatisfied and frustrated, because I know that these feelings are backed not by harmful or evil intent, but a sense of self-confidence and self-esteem.
If one were to have pride in themselves, only to fail to gain the same recognition from others, it's quite normal to feel slighted.
Actually I'm... even more confident than y'all (see my first answer on 知乎*), so much so that I wrote my Game of the Year acceptance speech 2 years ago, which I ended up not using 😭😭😭"
*知乎 is another forume-sque platform that's kinda like Quora for asking and answering questions.
It's at worst a display of arrogance that in fact, seems to be used in a self-denigrating manner in the post. I don't have the exact same emoji, but surely one doesn't need to speak Chinese to understand what its use there means right? All I see is a pretty normal statement from a game dev empathising with the fanbase's disappointment over not getting GOTY, and soothing those pains by being self-deprecating about this own confidence in his creation.
In fact the rest of that 2nd paragraph (post is split into 7 paragraphs) makes the fact that he's focusing on the fact that he just has pride in his game even clearer:
meaning:
"In the process of developing this game, many colleagues weren't as optimistic as me. Maybe they'd replayed the WIPs too many times, such that they'd inevitably think it had too many flaws and wouldn't be finished in time.
In this company I have a very important role: to continuously reassure staff that we've already done a very good job, and that the game is continuously improving.
Indeed, you cannot have self-confidence in yourself only when you win.
That is not confidence, but preparation for/repetition of the end.
You lose today, and you can lose again tomorrow—and so what?
The end is never certain, as after all, the factors involved in determining are too complicated. The only thing we can be certain of is our own actions—to do things with purpose, difficult things, things we believe in/confident actions.
To do these, of course we must believe in ourselves."
The other paragraphs continue in the same encouraging spirit—generalised summary:
3 talks about how Game Science persevered in developing BMW because they trust in their game to deliver a quality story rooted in Chinese culture
4 talks about how Yocar thinks a common proverb few know is from Journey to the West "世上无难事,只怕有心人。/Nothing is impossible to a willing heart" does not mean that overcoming difficulties is simply a matter of mental fortitude, but that he thinks "因为难,才好玩" aka its fun because its difficult but also alluding to a common sentiment in fanbases that form around a love for difficult games... like BMW (and yknow the whole genre of Souls-like and Bullet hells and games that you love because they are so painful).
5 talks about the origin of Game Science's name, 6 about how they're fortunate to even be able to work on games, 7 a lovely, lovely conclusion that I think deserves to be translated in full:
"最后,希望黑神话的这个故事,能够给到某些还在迷茫中的人一点勇气,让更多在还在黑暗中摸索的人看到了一点光亮,然后以平常心继续前行。
希望大家都能继续怀着自信与雄心,保持勇敢、诚实与善良,踏实做好每一件具体的小事,坦然接受不确定的结果,一直走在取经的路上,直到生命的最后一刻。
就像海明威说的那样:这个世界很美好,值得为之战斗。" meaning:
"In conclusion, I hope that the story of BMW (both the game and the story of the game's development?) can give those who are still lost some courage, give more of those still searching in the darkness some light, and progress with a peace of mind.
I hope everyone will continue to embrace confidence and ambition, to be brave, sincere and kind, to properly do everything with purpose, until life reaches its final end.
Just like what Hemingway said: "The world is a fine place and worth fighting for."
It's honestly a very earnest and sweet post?? If you can read Mandarin Chinese its way more poetic and kind of tear-inducing—even more so if you're a creative of any kind, or just someone who's ever put high expectations on themselves to produce good results, only to seemingly ""fail"" by not achieving the unrealistically fantastical ideal you've built in your head.
Anon, I'm glad that you've played the game, but I don't think your interpretation of Yocar's post is fair at all. Creators are allowed to have high expectations about their own work, and to be disappointed when they aren't met. The post he's made is just that—a joking expression of disappointment, yet determination to carry on producing more games he can be proud of, and will bring happiness to others. Nowhere in this is the unhinged bashing of TGA that Yocar is supposedly to have done. If this sort of encouraging statement is considered inflammatory, I... genuinely don't know what to say.

going through some of the in-game assets, will be putting my random thoughts and remarks here
Love that Yin Tiger's ears aren't symmetrical. Also his model doesn't come with a tail - I noticed that when playing it. I guess because with his clothes the tail was difficult to animate?
love his pants. stole them for my OC
Horse-senpai, we love him we stan him, we mourn for him
hated those guys for the achievement.
so much detail put into the iron fan
the scroll painting that takes us to the zodiac village

04. In Which They Have Language Lessons Together
Previous Chapter ✦ Next Chapter ✦ Read it on AO3
“What are those symbols you are writing above?” A bored monkey king was lounged in a chair next to me, his eyes following my hands gripping my fountain pen and scribbling things into a book that Shen Monkey gave me. Or rather, he was going to throw it away, and I decided to take it. It first started out with just being curious to see how books were made in ye olde ancient China, and then turned to slightly horrified when I realized, I can’t read half of the text inside.
I usually pride myself with being able to understand and speak Chinese fluently. Informal Chinese, but better than nothing. My reading skills were also good enough to be able to read Chinese boys love web novels at three am in the dark, on the bed sideways with autor-otate turned off on the phone.
The unfortunate reality was that I learned how to read simplified Chinese, which in my world was adapted less than 100 years ago from my time. That means while I was able to recognize some words and characters, a lot of I was not able to read the full text and understand the context.
It’s like having learned French for a year on-and-off and when you open up The Little Prince in French, you are only able to understand every third word or less. Sometimes you understood the sentence context, other times there were just too many unfamiliar vocabularies for me to make any sense of what it was trying to say.
Not being able to read a text in a language that I was familiar gave me a sense of loss of control, and there was nothing less I liked than not being in control of things in my life.
So that was something I needed to rectify, and unfortunately for my favorite monkey, you were tasked with helping me learn how to read some words. And you seemed to be very happy when I approached you and asked you to help me. I haven’t seen much of you lately, as you were busy discussing with your generals and rebuilding Mount Huaguo, making sure it was habitable again, so I supposed you jumped at the first chance to be able to spend more time with me.
Might have also heard you yelling ‘Clear my schedule for the next few days’ to your advisors, who did not look very happy about it but did not argue further with you.
So here we are now, sitting outside in a nice forest clearing close to the waterfall, with books and papers and ink and brushes scattered across the table. You plucked a few of your fur, chewed on them and then blew them out to turn them into furniture.
Very practical to have a walking and talking IKEA store with me.
The ‘symbols’ you’re asking about are the Pinyin I was writing above the Chinese. “Those are Latin letters,” I explained “back in my world, we use Pinyin as a way to write down how Chinese characters sound, and have a standardized system. It uses Latin letters, because it also helps foreigners to learn Chinese.” The explanation was a very dumbed down one, but I hoped it was enough for you to understand the gist of it. “By writing it down above the characters I don’t recognize, I will know now how this word is pronounced. So the next step will be memorizing and hopefully next time I see the same character in another text, I can point at it and go ‘Hey, I know this because Old Sun taught me this’”.
Your tail perked up at me calling you Old Sun, and you grinned. “So this is why you want my help. Do not fret, with your Monkey King as your teacher, you will be able to read every text in the mortal realm.” You boasted, tail now swinging left and right.
My hair fell over my face, the long strand dipping into the clay tray that was holding the black ink. I grimaced at the ink staining the tip of my hair, and tucked the strand over my ear. My hair has goes a bit over my shoulder now. I was mostly used to short hair, but you liked to play with my longer hair, so I haven’t gotten around to cut it yet.
“Latin letters...” you repeated what I said, and then pointed at the Pinyin again, “Is this the writing system used when you speak ‘English’?”
I had to bite back a laugh, remembering your very confused face the first time you heard me cussing and cursing out loud in English at a yaoguai, because sometimes it was better they didn’t understand what my filthy mouth was saying.
“Yeah, it's that. There are many other languages that use the same writing system.” More hair fell into my face, but you reacted fast this time and put the tray of ink color away before my hair could dip into it again. I gathered my hair in my hands and tucked it under my hanfu, hoping they will stay there.
“Chinese and English... Impressive, my cherry blossom speaks knows two languages.” You said, a grin across your face, like you were very proud about the fact that I was multilingual.
“Four.” I corrected you, and took a sip from my tea. You raised your eyebrow, even more impressed now. “Except three of them are virtually useless here, and I am struggling to read basic text here.” I added, pointing at said text book in front of me.
My hair fell forward once again, and you could tell that I was getting frustrated by having to constantly pull my hair back somehow.
“Why do you not use the hairpin gifted to you by the zodiac villagers.” You asked, there was a bit of bite in that question. The hairpin you were referring to was a birthday present from the villagers, given to me when I was seeking shelter there and hiding away from you for a few weeks. I think a part of you was also hurt that you missed my birthday when I was avoiding you, and I insisted that it was alright, and you didn’t have to get me anything.
“I don’t know how to use it.” I replied, thinking back about the hairpin sitting on my vanity, unused.
You remained silent at first, so I went back to studying and copying characters I was unfamiliar with, repeating the Pinyin silently trying to memorize it, when is saw from the corner of my eye how you picked Jingubang out of your ear. I looked up again, your golden staff now the size of a hairpin in your hand.
“Face me and do not move.” You commanded.
I did as you asked, putting my pen down and shuffled in my chair to be facing you. My heart was starting to pick up speed, my gut predicting what is coming next.
You leaned forward, close to my face. With Jingubang in one hand, you used your free hand to gather my hair, and then moved both hands back to twist it a few times around your staff. In a few seconds, my hair out of my face, and tied up neatly around Jingubang.
You then leaned back, and had a big proud smile on your face. “There, now you do not have to worry about the ink staining your whole black hair back.” You said, referring also to our time on the road when I temporarily tried to dye my hair black.
My face heated up, and I carefully reached a hand to the back of my head to feel your masterwork, fingers running over Jingubang. There was something very precious and special knowing that he transformed his trusty golden staff into the size of a hairpin and then tied my hair up for me...
“Thank you.” I said sincerely, and without thinking much, I quickly moved my head forward and planted a kiss on the cheek-part of your face that was covered in fur. The result was instant: The tip of your ears was turning red and a big red blush began to blossom on your face. Oh, how I loved seeing you blush, and even more when it was me who caused it.
With the speed your tail was waggling, one would think you were trying to dust the floor.
“Do you wanna know how to write your name in Pinyin?”
