There are pickles, snags, muddles, and problems. Then there are problems concerning three bodies. This would be the latter. 

But problems, three-body or otherwise, can escalate into full-blown conundrums. And that is just what we have for you this Thursday, March 28, in the form of these Spotlight interviews with Zine Tseng and Rosalind Chao, and John Bradley and Alex Sharp, all four of 3 Body Problem fame, who were subject to a myriad of tough questions. The dark forest theory? Could Jason Momoa solve the #3 body problem? Ways that the first season does not end? And what would the ideal three-course meal one could put together to pair with a viewing of 3 Body Problem?

To be brutally honest I never really liked either of these designs compared to every other Hemitheos we get, I think the really brutal black and red of the Phoinix is weakened by gold accents, but I still am always down for gay vampire surf rock. The Savage version kind of looks like Ultimalius as well if you've played XVI.

^ My favourite detail on this is you can see the parasite's outlines in her robes and in her legs, then right through the eye holes on the mask to wrap around the torso. I'm convinced this version of Hegemone is functionally an ant being piloted by a cordyceps infection.

Perfect Imperfection: Hephaistos

I'm probably biased by Abyssos being the first raid I was there for day of release but these really are all fantastic. It's also when the story abandons all pretense of not being (at least partly) about family abuse and is loudly using the body horror and shackle motifs to talk about that. It's great. Hephaistos specifically is constantly bulging and twisting in and out of different forms like a highly unstable chimera and the more I look at these the more I notice parts that just should not be there. He's giving everything.

As for the Savage design It's a hard thing to rate as such but my favourite part is the veins that grow down from the eyeholes in his mask like bloody tears.

Dæmoniac Dungeon: Pandæmonium

It's really hard to communicate how huge this nasty tumor crab I zoomed out as far as physically possible in the game engine and subsequently ended up at a goofy angle staring up his nose.

Ephemeral Justice: Themis

Best boy. The double ended lance and second pair of arms are fantastic for this character.

Theos: Athena

In.. almost every final fantasy adventure you're fighting the real villain not at the very end but a little beforehand, the big iconic end boss is often more a metaphorical figure representing everything wrong with that first person's ideals. Athena cut out the middle man and became her own JENOVA.

I do like the moth angel, especially the hollow body full of dubious orbs, but with her eyes closed all the time it gives off the impression of this not even being the true body but some kind of anglerfish lure in the shape of a fairy... which might be true because this exists:

I really really love her twitchy anemone feelers and how the moth body ends up grafted to the rest of it waist down.

Anyway there's the gang I did not specifically intend for this to be design reviews I just wanted to have clear photos because when you actually see them in game there's other things to focus on. In hindsight I can appreciate more the theming of each tier and then the series as a whole, but my only (extremely obvious) observation for now is that every character Athena had a personal hold over is decorated in chains somehow and so I should have seen the Hegemone thing coming lmao. Heph and Aggy are still my favourites I don't think that's changing any time soon. I'm also noticing that Anabaseios is now just old enough for random DF parties to fuck up severely and I find that fun so I'm going to go fight the crab mansion now.

oh yes! the droplet! i forgot to mention it. but i thought it was really awesome, it seemed so simple and inoffensive but then it took me by surprise just how deathly powerful it was

about the wallfacer project, it was very entertaining to read. sometimes i felt pity for them but other times it was just really bizarre... luoji requesting for that house in who knows where and the whole thing with zhuang yan was hilarious, now i think he was a madman through and through hahaha

ohh that's right. (that bit about luoji being a wallfacer again) that was cruel though for him. i get it that people needed that "angel of justice" as they called him, something to believe in, but actually they ended up destroying him. and the fact that he only wanted to see his wife and daughter but they wouldnt let him once he 'did something' was heartless. and they even told him it didn't Have to be meaningful, but only for the people to stay hopeful... that situtation was disheartening for both sides

one thing that bothers(?) me a bit, it's that the characters seem to be used only to tell the stories. if instead of luo ji it was still wangmiao , someone we already know, i think it would've been a better experience instead of getting to know this new character, only to forget abt him in the next book? i don't know if it's clear. i find it a bit hard to sympathise with the characters, i can only sympathise because of the extreme situations they encounter, but i think that's it. i dont know i feel that except for wang miao, shi qiang and zhang beihai, the rest of the characters could get discarded easily. or at least those were the ones who felt most real to me! what do you think about this?

hii! i just finished reading the dark forest!! what a journey, i think it took me about a month to finish it lol. i wanted to share some thoughts !!

i found some of the concepts fascinating.. what stuck with me the most now i that i (try to) recall everything that happened, was the battle of darkness and the dark forest theory as a whole was brilliant. i imagine those people that were just- endlessly floating in the immensely vast universe and it made me think "oh wow how Sad and Hopeless that must've been" i too would've want to end it all, i believe that's a lot to endure.. that's one

another thing was the infamous wallfacer project. well that was new. and the fact that they had to plan everything on their own bc of the sophons, that's also kind of depressing lol. one thing i was confused was: why was luoji re-elected as a wallfacer at the end? i mean there wasn't anything more he could have done anyways?

da shi as always is such a great person😭 he never abandoned luoji during this long crazy journey, even after 200+ years. honestly i love his character a ton, i wanted to see what would happen to him at the end but there was nothing! will he be on Death's end? or his character just ends here? :((

i thought the whole thing with the "trees" as homes was pretty cool, though i couldn't really see it in my imagination haha i honestly can't imagine what would our society be like in, say, 300 years from now

i found it too simplistic(? that only when the trisolarans communicated with luoji did they stopped their plan to coming to earth, or maybe there's something i missed? or maybe it is really just that: communication solves everything? lol idk

and a deserved special mention to zhang beihai, respect!

hello, friend! it's great reading this ask, and i'm glad you decided to share it with me. i have to say that i read the books years ago, so my memory on everything is not that fresh. and since i read the chinese version, i don't know some of the vocabularies they used in englishn. while i'll try my best to reply to this ask, i'm sure there's gotta be some novel fans here that could do better than me.

the dark forest is indeed very interesting and depressingly dark. i was definitely in awe when i heard the dark forest theory for the first time (before i read the books, and that was partly why i decided to read them). i also really like 水滴/waterdrop or droplet which is just something that looks simple but super super super powerful.

i enjoyed reading about the wallfacer project. even the three failed ones are equally fascinating and disturbing. i want to bow down to liu cixin's imagination...if i remember it correctly, luo ji is re-elected because his "咒语/spell or curse" actually came true. and at that time humans are really hopeless, so they just want to have someone that they believe can save/lead them.

da shi is everything. i lol need a da shi myself. unfortunately, he's not in the third book. my inner shiwang shipper feels that shi qiang and wang miao got similar style of exist from the story. and the common believe (i don't even remember if i read it in the novel or it was fan theory) is that shi qiang dies of natural causes at old age like wang miao. i kinda feel like maybe shi qiang and wang miao promised each other that they'd try to stay alive so that they can both be copernicus *sobs*...

ok...bear with my silly shallow shipper's talk for a moment, you know some people were like shiwang will be no more once season 2 of three body comes out, and everyone will start to ship shi qiang and luo ji, and it kinda bothered me a bit (ps. i know most people including myself didn't ship anything while reading the books, but man, these dramas are really forcing it on us lol). but i don't anymore, because i really think wang miao is special to shi qiang. besides shi qiang being a good and protective human being who will die for the greater good, i think one of the reasons that he stays with luo ji all this time is because luo ji reminds him of wang miao. even though it is only mentioned very breifly, i do believe liu cixin meant to tell us how important wang miao is to shi qiang... “我这辈子还只见着他一个”

as for luo ji stopping the trisolarans, i think he uses the dark forest theory, and his threat of exposing the location of the trisolaris (and in turn exposing earth's location) stops their plan.

and zhang beihai is an awesome, complex, and well loved tragic hero even though he isn't a very major character like luo ji. i remember yu hewei said in an interview that if he didn't play shi qiang, he'd probably like to play zhang beihai. i'm really curious who they'd pick to play zhang beihai in season 2.

- ngl tho.. this is like studying Hume all over again with the whole “let’s imagine the laws of physics does not work all the time��� business. but also, I would add Abbott’s Flatland to the mix, with the appearance of something that defies the in-world logic at the base of someone’s else’s reality. AND, if I have to go there, since Ding Yi brought it up.. Asimov’s Nightfall does fit the scenario as well.

- (set up does also remind me of Chiang’s Story of Your Life [i did not like everything in regards to the movie adaptation, bc they did change some fundamental aspects of the original plot which..... don’t get me started on that, but the movie in itself was gripping and well done] but this is not meant to be a comparison: it has just been a while since I consumed proper sci-fi and I’m making connections like a pinball machine let loose, don’t mind me)

- the car scene was fun! much needed, also, great sound design overall.

- had a feeling about the elderly woman, but I didn’t expect her to be related to the scientist in particular......

- the timer in the pictures?? love it. 1187 hours, 49 days.. isn’t 49 days the time for the first mourning? I can’t recall if it’s 49 after the passing or the funeral, but I do remember it’s significant...

i also... hmm. i don't remember enough of the book TBH or if he has further involvement later on, but not bothering with the letter makes his actual participation in what happened or his presence when shes taken away pretty much negligible. im not saying it has to be more - i dont think the point is that he's evil or out to get her or whatever - just that when it comes to it, he actually uses her as a shield and rather violently so to make her look like the one and only culprit. this just has him standing there

Warriors stands, taut as a bowstring, hardly daring to breathe as something rises gurgling and screaming out of the ground; tendons and muscles and veins twine in strands of crimson and violet and obsidian.

“Champion, what is that?” He snaps as four identical hands reach forward, piercing him with four identical irises.

Wild is so pale he matches the pearly white of the stone beneath their feet.
